Fitness Trainer (Kim Seolhyun) (S) (BXG)

Hearing the news that a new gym has just opened in my town a couple blocks away from my house, I’ve already read positive reviews of the place as the staff and trainers are knowledgable of the equipment and proper diet and exercise along with all sorts of cool workout gadgets.

Honestly, the membership wasn’t too bad being the price of $25 per month and I decided why the hell not?

Changing into my workout attire, I grab my duffle bag holding all of my shower needs and a change of clothes.

I get into my car, start the engine, and exit the garage, the drive to the gym was about five minutes as it was close to my house.

Making my way into the gym, I was awestruck by the decor and how nice this place looked.

Walking up to the receptionist, he greets me and asked if I had a gym membership or not.

“Uhm, this is my first time here,” I answered.

“That’s perfect because we offer a ten percent discount to newcomers for the first three months and even a trainer,” The receptionists offered.

“Sweet, it’s a deal,” I accepted and he nodded.

Completing the transaction and getting the sweet deal, he gives me an access card that lets me through the doors and instructs me to wait in room 02 for the trainer.

Sliding the card on the electronic locking mechanism, it automatically unlocks the door and when I walked through the doors, I was again amazed by the amount of people working out and the top-of-the-line gym equipment.

Looking around for the private room, I saw a sign with the label “Room 02″ and the bottom text saying “Kim Seolhyun”. Guess she must be the trainer I’ll be working with so I politely knocked on the door.

“Coming~!” I hear a female voice shout.

A warm welcome to all fellow bxg/turtles who are coming from other social media! I have prepared you all a gift (especially for baby turtles!) and also decided to properly introduce myself to this fandom 💛

The Tumblr yizhan fandom had always been peaceful and is a peaceful place for fans of both gg and dd. From my experience, which is a bit limited (I tended to keep my interest in all things gg and dd offline and with my friends), this place had and has far less trouble than the Twitter fandom. I had always advocated for peace and to not engage antis so my advice to you is to curate your space and spare yourselves needless headaches by avoiding them entirely. We are fans of both gg and dd and that's all that matters.

Pay attention to tags because unlike Twitter, Tumblr heavily depends on tags. My advice to you is to follow tags that are of interest to you and to locate fellow bxg within them.

Taking care of you

Hi, guys! I initially wrote this post for an ask, but it got too long to be included, so I separated it in another post.

Disclaimer: fake info.

I’d like to highlight the moments they take care of each other. It must be because of how my own relationship works, but I really feel there’s something real between them when I see them just caring for each other.

Dd taking care of gg

From gg’s angle, I think the biggest clue is not just him taking care of dd, but letting himself be taken care of. From my experience, a independent, proud and competitive person like gg admitting that he doesn’t want to do something, asking for help or letting others defend him like dd does, shows a great deal of trust in the other person. He trusts the other one to do the right thing, to say the right words. And that’s present from start to finish in all of their events.

In the Thai fanmeeting (0:13-0:40 here), when asked a difficult question, gg and dd both said: “you answer”. Gg said in a very low voice “I don’t want to answer”, so dd inmediately turned to the reporter and thought of an answer. However, his answer was too short, so gg jumped in to complete it. Gg is perfectly capable of taking care of himself in events and interviews. He has done so before and continues to do so. However, whenever he’s with dd, he relaxes more, and lets dd take the reins or even asks him to (he asked him in this segment, but dd always rushes to defend him if needs arises, like the “you look at the waist” or the “why rush into marriage” moments). That doesn’t mean that he just disconnects, but remains attentive so he can help dd too if necessary. The way they rely and complete each other is really cp goals.

In CQL bts (the scene of the boat), dd keeps peeling lotus seeds for gg and giving them to him. Gg just naturally takes the seeds from him, and when YB hands him another stem, he just hands it to dd. If it wasn’t dd, just any other coworker, I don’t think gg would bear to just sit there and have another person peeling lotus seeds for him. He’d probably peel them himself, because that’s the “polite” thing to do. However, there’s no such need with people you’re really close to, and gg just sitting there speaks volumes of their closeness to each other.

(And note that when YB asks dd to pass him a lotus seed, dd just throws an unpeeled one to him, and YB has to peel it himself, because dd is only peeling lotus seeds for gg. Dd’s double standards).

In TTXS 11th anniversary, dd brings gg as his special guest. Gg says: “wang-laoshi please take care of me”, and dd answers: “I can’t even take care of myself”. But in the episode, he never leaves gg’s side, slows down the dance so gg can follow and jumps in to dance himself when gg is asked to and uncomfortable to say “no” (note that he also defended gg in the Thai fan meeting interview, when the reporter asked if gg could dance for them, dd was the first one to answer “no”)

Gg’s hearing is quite poor, so he often misses hosts’ questions. Dd is used to it by now: sometimes gg doesn’t even needs to ask him and dd will already be turning to him to repeat the question to him. I can think of at least three times that dd helped him like that: (1), (2) and (3)

(In Tencent Awards night, gg didn’t even hear the host telling him to stay for a bit, and only stopped after seeing dd. He didn’t hear anything the hosts said either. What is remarkable is that dd started to explain as soon as he turned. How did you know that gg hadn’t heard anything if you were facing the other side, dd?)

In Nanjing concert (191101), gg had a infection in the throat (faringitis). He could barely talk in the practice, and it’s part of the reason he’s much more silent in that concert. His throat was bothering him at the end of the concert, when they were both singing WuJi, so dd just simply sang his lines for him, hitting the high notes even though his voice isn’t suited for them. He continued to sing the leading voice of the song, just so gg could rest his voice. Gg’s reaction is so sweet too (his surprised stare, their smiles, gg nodding his head giving his thanks... judge for yourselves). He was smiling much more afterwards too.

Gg taking care of dd

But of course, gg also takes care of dd. As I’ve said, this goes to them both.

We’ve the famous knee pads moment in the 9-minutes boat video. Gg notices injuries in dd’s knees and looks very sad when he asks “b-but these are new injuries?”. They even bicker for a second, but gg keeps looking at dd’s knees and out of concern asks him to wear knee-pads. We all know that more than a year after that, dd is indeed listening to gg’s words, even though at first he laughed at them and asked “who would wear knee pads?”.

In the same 9-minute boat video, gg also asks him “I heard yesterday was so hot that an extra fainted... how were you?”. From my pov, this video allows us a small glimpse into how they interact, and by dd’s answer I think it’s usual for gg to be caring and attentive of dd. Even when they are playing and joking around, gg keeps in mind dd’s health, like when he said “yes, I’ll let you off since you haven’t slept for 2-3days and that’s sad. Rest well, please” here.

I don’t even think gg was thinking of anymore than just friendship with dd at that moment. But it already started to show that he cared a lot about him.

There are also multiple instances of gg taking care of dd’s throat. For some reason, it seems dd is very prone to colds and coughs (he once said he was the kind of kid that got sick every season, and I don’t think the idol life workload is doing anything to fix that).

Bxg digged out that gg gave dd a certain brand cough drop in the Thai fan meeting (and it’s the same one he was sharing with the other hosts in SDoC). Then we jump at Tencent Awards night. Gg sees that dd has something candy-like in his mouth and inmediately asks: “does your throat hurt?”. The amount of knowledge necessary here: as his cohosts from SDoC demonstrates for us, when we see a friend eating a candy, it’s more normal to ask “oh, you’re eating a candy?”. But gg inmediately knows that it’s a cough drop, most likely because he knows that dd doesn’t like sweets and snacks and he gave him those. From there, we jump to gg’s worry about dd “does your throat hurt?”.

In TTXS episode with gg, at the end, when they are eating meat skewers, gg advises dd to eat less of them: “they have black pepper, it’s bad for the throat”. For me, it’s a sign of how gg takes care of dd in a more domestic and daily basis. The comment is taken naturally by dd, as if he’s used to it.

(Actually, I’d like to know what gg has to say about dd eating so many spicy hotpots with his cough. In traditional Chinese medicine, “spicy, sweet, oily and alcohol” are the four prohibitions for people who want to take care of their voice and their throat. By gg’s comments and the brand of cough drops he gives dd, I’m almost sure he wouldn’t like dd mistreating his throat like this).

I’m sure most of you has noticed the next one, but gg always clears the seat for dd. He did so in Nanjing fan meeting, and took the papers and the pen away so dd didn’t sit on them, and again cleared the seat next to him in Tencent awards. So when gg wasn’t sitting next to him in w/ibo night, dd simply sat with a water bottle behind him, and gg noticed when he sat in dd’s seat later, when dd had left.

(It’s also interesting to analyze gg’s movement in Tencent Awards. Everyone in that sofa where sitting widely apart from each other, so a pen placed next to gg shouldn’t bother dd if he simply took his seat keeping the same distance everyone was keeping. But gg assumed naturally that dd would be sitting next to him).

(At the left, an actress who is rumoured to follow other actors cp’s, and was seen observing gg and dd that night quite closely).

Also from Tencent Awards night, dd was confused as to how to leave the stage, which gg kindly points him the correct way. The same thing, though much more subtle, appears again at the w/ibo night, when with a glance from dd, gg points the way with his fan for dd.

Gg also cares about dd’s career. In c-culture, connections and relationships with important people play a large part in your success in any industry. So at first gg was standing between ZLY and dd, but when he noticed ZLY talking with dd, he just gently pushed dd towards her, so they could chat.

This is why I don’t really believe in the famous video of a “jealous gg moment” (when they got off stage and were walking down the stairs, dd looked at ZLY, and that glance was supposedly seen by gg, who stormed off, leaving dd behind). I think gg didn’t react like that because of dd (though he did look at him), but because someone signaled him from afar.

Dd even waited for ZLY to get on stage, and offered his help to her because she was wearing a long dress. This was also seen by gg, who turned to check if dd was following. If this moment didn’t get a reaction from gg, and he doesn’t react poorly when they both chatted at his side, I don’t know why dd just looking at her afterwards would sit so badly with gg (and we get back to the fact of ZLY being married and with a baby).

At the Nanjing concert, in the first day, when gg and dd were singing Wu Ji, there were some problems with their earphones. You can actually see them trying to fix it from here. However, dd ends up taking off his, and there’s a moment of silent communication, where I think dd was asking gg to cue him the start of the next part of the song (which is dd’s). From here, you can see gg keeping up with the beats of the song, and see him pointing with the mic towards dd when is his turn to start singing.

I particularly love this Wu Ji interpretation from them, because it’s first dd asking gg for help, and inmediately after, dd taking care of gg.

They rely on each other, trust each other and they move around each other like the other one is meant to be in their personal space. Neither gives or receives more help from the other, they are in an equally balanced relationship. Now you can take this and compare it to real relationships you know of to get your own conclusions about whether it resembles a romantic relationship or a strong friendship.

BJYX Food Blog

Ahhhhhh I love food so much!!!! hahahaha So I decided to record down all the times food show how much they love each other. This is mostly just for me. Since this is a “food blog”, instead of “evidence” which you can find elsewhere in other people’s analysis posts, I will instead include yummy photos of food. Will continue to update this list.

Disclaimer: All fanfiction.

1) Pancake - I talked about this in detail here. In summary, dd is bragging about how “homey” he is that he can make pancake. The recipe uses butter, something only people that bake in China will have. Gg likes to bake cookies (even sugar-free one, haha gg is more detail-orientated and health conscious than me) and bread. Apparently gg also loves cheese and dd mentioned that his pancake has cheese.

2) Love on the Rocks or Love’s Water - This supper famous drink in China’s Starbucks is actually black currant juice + raspberry juice + black tea. You can make it easily at home (it’s not available in U.S. Starbucks). Because of BJYX, you can order it as “Love’s Water” directly at Starbucks in Chinese (Yes, Starbucks knows about them.) Why is it call Love’s Water? It’s red, the color of love while also sweet and sour. Also, it’s actually gg’s favorite drink at Starbucks. You can often seen him drinking it during the filming of the Untamed. What about dd? It’s been mention by gg that dd only drinks water. However, during Untamed filming, dd can also be seen drinking Love’s Water from Starbucks. Does love change a person’s preference in drinks?

3) Green tea - We’ve all seen the BTS where they share green tea from the same bottle, twice. However, what’s even more interesting is that dd kept the preference of drinking green tea even after filming. Fans have caught dd drinking green tea during ttxs taping and there are pictures of bottle of green tea in his van. He’s also mention liking green tea with dls on ttxs.

4) Hot pot

a. Soup - Gg used to say because he’s from Chongqing, he likes spicy hotpot. However, after 2018, he mentioned that he now like twin-sided pot (half spicy, half not). Is he sharing a pot with someone who doesn’t eat spicy food that much? In clips from early 2018, we see dd not being able to handle spicy food. However, in 2020, we see him ordering a completely spicy soup base (him being the only one out of the 4 people to do so). What changed for both of them?

b. Sauce - In Chongqing where gg is from, you eat hotpot with a spicy oil sauce. Gg used to say that was what he preferred. However, in an interview, he picked sesame sauce over the spicy oil sauce. He also mentions that he loves the sauce with sweet garlic. If you go back to old video of dd, he has always love sesame sauce with garlic. He also mentioned in ttysj earlier this year that he loves hot pot with sesame sauce with sweet garlic. However, in j5, we see him eating his hot pot with spicy oil sauce. What happened? Are they trying to become each other?

Edit - dd was asked recently why he changed from his sesame sauce to spicy oil sauce and he said “I learned it from a friend I met from filming.” And he said it’s because it makes the hot pot less spicy, and most important, the flavor suits him.

c. Dried yamakurage - Ngl, I’ve never heard of this vegetable before today. Many people from different parts of China was in the same boat. Google search told me that it’s a vegetable they like to add in hot pot in Chongqing. Dd mentioned in ttxs that he likes this vegetable. In j5, you can also find this vegetable on the table.

d. “Treasure in the palm” - What is that? Ya, I had no idea either until dd ordered it for his hotpot. (Many other Chinese audience on WB also has never heard of it.) Apparently it’s the ligament in the middle of a chicken’s claw. I did some Google research and it seems like it’s mostly eaten bbq style or stir fry. So I searched “掌中宝” + hotpot and got the result that it’s eaten in hotpot in....drumroll....Chongqing! (Yes, where gg is from.) So ya......

e. Cow stomach - Another thing dd ordered. This time, this is something dd has always like to eat and has said it since 2017. However, it’s gg that mentioned in an interview that he also like to eat this for his hot pot now. Previously, when asked what his favorite hot pot meat is, he said “beef.” Maybe he just suddenly change his mood?

5) Zongzi - Where gg is from (southern China), we’re use to eating savory Zongzi with meat, peanuts, eggs, etc inside. But where dd is from (northern China), they think zongzi should be sweet with red bean, etc.. During an interview when ask to pick between sweet vs savory zongzi, gg immediately picked savory. However, dd wavered and then picked savory at the end.

6) Eggplant - Gg said that he eats anything except eggplant because he once threw up when he was younger eating eggplant and it left a trauma on him. Unfortunately for him, the prepared food during CQL had a lot of eggplant because it was in season where they were filming. The actor of LXC during a livestream also mentioned that gg doesn’t like to eat eggplant. Then he followed up by saying that dd loves to eat eggplant. But if you watch ttxs, none of the host ever mentions dd likes eggplant (they constantly mention that he loves cilantro, durian, snail rice noodles, etc.). Also in an episode when there was eggplant, dd didn’t actively try to eat some. So maybe during their filming time, someone doesn’t like to eat eggplant and gave theirs to another person, causing LXC’s confusion?

From my own opinion, I think gg is the type of person that values food a lot. You can see him craving certain food and be very picky about the type of food he likes to eat. He also knows how to cook well so his standard for good food is high. I think dd is the type of person that likes food but isn’t super picky of the type of food he eats, as long as it’s good, he’s happy. So he’s more likely to just enjoy the same food that gg likes because that will make both of them happy. I don’t think either of them purposefully change their food preference for each other but more that your food habit changes naturally when you spend a lot time with another person.

7. Cough Drop

When watching Street Dancing, there was a clip of all the team leaders sitting down watching and dd pulled out a “candy.” The leader next to him asked him if he was eating candy and he pulled out a pack and shared it with others. He even reached over to make sure he shared his candy with everyone. It was such a cute moment and looked like elementary school children sharing snacks. It’s cute and that’s it, right?

Nope, bxg have to live up to the title of “Detective Conan/Sherlock Holmes”. People start digging through old pictures and found one where they saw the same brand “candy”, which was actually cough drops in gg’s back from several years back. The version dd was eating was a “peach flavor version” meant for children. What was interesting is that he ate the peach version himself but shared a different version with others. This was confirm by the company that made the cough drops. (CPN) It’s possible that he’s savoring the peach ones for himself because gg gave them to him specially.

So gg and dd have the same cough drop. That’s it, right? Nope, more Detective Conan popped out and found several videos of fan-meeting in Thailand when gg was eating a cough drop and dd was coughing. Then gg asked some assistant for the cough drop, yes the same exact brand, and then handed them to dd. You can also see dd have something in this mouth before he went on stage. This tells us that gg has definitely given dd this cough drop before.

But are we sure that the supply of cough drop dd has is from gg? Probably, because of what happen in XGDS. During XGDS, dd was eating a cough drop. Normally, other friends, like the people in street dancing will see that and say, “oh you’re eating a candy?” But when gg saw, he asked “does your throat hurt?” This means that gg knew that dd was eating a cough drop immediately. How would he know that? Unless he’s the one who gave it to him. (This story has more logic and evidence than papers I’ve read in Cell/Nature/Science.)

Fun fact - some fan bought it and said it taste terrible LOL It taste too sweet on the outside and taste like medicine on the inside (which it is technically herbal medicine.) So don’t recommend trying it.

xz had xz/wzc supertopic dismantled???The way i never heard of this I assumed when his studio gave everyone that warning after his bday saying to stop making fake stories about xz and his friends it had something to do with yb since (twt) solo stans were fighting and blaming byjx shippers for that banner in front of xz parents house but i should had know better when comes to ifans on stan twitter they go straight to attack shippers everytime when they are the biggest issue in this fandom imo

solo stans will fight bjyx shippers for breathing don’t take it too seriously lmao. the banner in front of xz’s house, as far as i know, was the result of a bad prank a fan (i don’t even think it was a bjyx fan??) was trying to pull and antis caught wind of it and it blew up. bjyx fans in chn have very strict rules about not even using their real names or abbreviations and use a lot of code/emojis precisely so that nothing they say in that topic goes back to them so even if a few of these fans got it in their head to do such a thing it wouldn’t be something organized or endorsed by the whole community. the most public things they do are either the LED adspace to show their support (you can watch this video here to see bxg fans buying TIMES SQUARE adspace and sharing their heartfelt thoughts, theres also more displays they do for them in chn in that thread its nuts). i’m pretty sure they also changed the banners at concerts even changed so the banners now now reference their wish to go skiing together, instead of the name of the supertopic, although the acronym remains the same.

there’s weirdos and bad apples in every fandom, esp in celeb fandom, but solo fans don’t want to hear anyone else out and instead undermine a lot of the efforts yizhan fans are making to stay off the radar anyway. it’s especially hilarious how they bring up “east vs west” arguments when cfans are putting up ad displays in various cities, there’s bjyx gallery showings for their photoshoots/events, and the skateboard shop that sells wyb’s bunny skateboard gives you bjyx stickers with your purchase LMAO. compared to that a handful of ifans on twt gushing over their interviews isn’t gonna make a difference. but antis with burner accounts on twitter WILL keep an eye out for big xz accounts using his face as their pfp while they start fanwars and use that against him. also yizhan fans go out of their way to tag everything as delusional, CPN (couple brain), or “fake”, no matter how compelling it is or how much they believe in them because they know that shipping isn’t considered weird in c-ent but insisting you know someone’s gay and spreading rumors as fact is an entirely different thing. basically if they don’t like it or they’re that concerned about it coming back to effect the artists then shining a huge spotlight on it is the opposite of helping. they’re grown men with lawyers anyway if you’re gonna go that hard for them you should be asking for a check lmfao xz and wyb have lots of other supertopics they’ve left up as well, with co stars or bandmates and such that they’ve left alone. i think most entertainers just let the shippers/couple fans do their thing. but in general entertainers have control over whether or not they want a couple supertopic involving them to stay up.

Games with romance elements: RPG’s

The second part of my “Games with romance elements” series.

For the first two posts of this series I’ll be focusing on games that let you play as a heroine. The last part will be about games that have romantic relationships in general.

The focus of this part are games that would mainly be categorized among the (j)rpg genre. I’m only going to cover those that I’ve played and liked myself, so if there are other games that I should check out feel free to leave a comment!

Persona 3 Portable (Playstation Portable, VITA)

My first and favorite Persona game was lucky enough to get a remake that includes a female Protagonist. I’m a big fan of this game in particular because of it’s amazing and emotional story. The female Protagonist has her own characteristics and meets other people throughout the story, so both sides are interesting to play. There are several romance options with their own personalities, though you’ll be bonding with a lot of Characters since it’s a big part of the experience. This game is a must-have in my opinion, so if you haven’t played it yet now’s your chance!

Mass Effect Trilogy (PC / PS4 & 3 / XBOX ONE & 360)

[GxB, GxG, BxG, BxB]

Not only do you get to play as a female in the Mass Effect series, she’s also one of the best Protagonists we have. You step into the shoes of Commander Shepard who’s on a mission to save the galaxy from a powerful threat. In this Trilogy you’ll meet a lot of different people, some of them romance options. What’s very nice and unique about this series is that it’s possible to see how the relationships change and develope over time since it’s possible to keep the romances going from game to game. Though again relationships in general make up a good part of the story. I’m really not a fan of shooters (aka I suck at them) but the great story and Characters made me want to play this game and I’m very glad I did.

Dragon Age Series (PC / PS4 & 3 / XBOX ONE & 360)

Just like Mass Effect these games were also made by Bioware so there's a few similarities. Some of the biggest differences are the setting which is medieval as opposed to the futuristic one of ME and that you play as a different Protagonist in each game. Ranging from a “silent” Protagonist to voiced ones the Dragon Age series has been a little more adventurous in that regard. What I really enjoy about this series is it’s lore and world. Since you play as a new Protagonist each time you’ll also see the story from different sides and meet a wide range of Characters, some of them you can romantically get involved with. Out of the three games released so far Origins (the first one) is still my favorite, but all of them are enjoyable and among my must-have games. The fourth entry is currently being developed.

Avalon Code (Nintendo DS)

This game is a secret gem that was ahead of it’s time. I recently replayed it and once again realized what a shame it is that Avalon Code did not get the attention it deserves. You play as a female or male Protagonist who has been bestowed upon the Book of Prophecy which will bring reincarantion to the world at the brink of collapsing. As you progress from Chapter to Chapter you’ll meet lots of Characters, through Quests and Cutscenes you’ll be able to get closer to them and develope a (romantic) relationship. For this one of the core mechanics of the game plays a big role. With the Book of Prophecy you scan different parts of the World to collect Codes, and with those you can craft items or even help people suffering from certain conditions. If this game were to come out today I’m sure it would be a hit, but I guess we should be glad it exists at all. If you still have a working DS or somehow have a chance to experience this game you absolutely should.

Fire Emblem Series (Most recently 3DS / Upcoming for SWITCH)

Fire Emblem has been around longer than I have with the first game being released in 1990 (JPN). There have been a lot of entries in this series, most of them even involving some romance here and there due to the “Support” system or story telling. The biggest change to this series came with Fire Emblem Awakening in 2012 since the game introduced a lot of new features. Among that the feature to create your own Avatar (which was only possible once before) instead of playing as a set Main Character. With this new Avatar also came the option of supporting aka romancing the huge Cast with your own Character. In fact you can play Matchmaker for almost all of your Units. The following entry Fire Emblem Fates also followed this System. The next entry called “Three Houses” will be released on July 27th, so far we have no confirmation about the Support System though (I’ll be updating this info when we get it).

I know it's a fic, but the plot is so real.. I just wanted to know was there something like this back then...

Coz in those times I was not into turtledom so I have no Idea..

Fake, fan fiction, CPN.

There were some set photos (props for the show) that were 'leaked' at one point and caused a stir among some turtles, and often held up by antis to try to hurt turtles. HOWEVER.

That does not mean they caused any stir at all in GGDD's relationship. Remember, they are both actors and know full well what that entails. IMNSHO there is zero chance that DD was upset in any way by the photos.

Perhaps you don't need this reminder, Anon, but just for the sake of it I want to reiterate that fan fiction is fiction, even - and I'd say especially - when the plot seems real or follows the real timeline of events.

Fan fiction about GG and DD is totally invented, and authors have no special insight into GG and DD's feelings, thoughts or real life experiences. It's their job as writers to bring stories to life and make them seem credible, but no matter how credible it seems, it's still entirely fictional.

I know that sounds lecturey and obvious, but you have no idea how many times during my years in this fandom that I've had stories from fan fiction reported to me as 'things that actually happened', and seen fans vehemently argue that fictional events were real.

Fan fiction is an open frontier. People can write whatever they want. But the more a story follows real events about real people, the more it stresses me out. There are unfortunately a lot of people who have a hard time distinguishing between fiction and reality.

And this is something that can creep up on just about anyone without their realizing. Turtles are faced with a TON of information from various sources, so much that it's hard to keep up. The more fandom information we take in over time the easier it is for us to forget where we saw or heard something, and to accidentally mistake something we read in a fic for something that actually happened.

This is why I vastly prefer AU stories over ones that try to build a narrative around actual events and fictionalize GGDD's real lives. I 100% support people's right to write 'fandom timeline' stories if they want to, but that doesn't mean I'll enjoy them or recommend them.

So while you read these stories, Anon, please keep in mind that very important point:

Fan fiction is fiction. Always.

It's also very common for turtles, including fan fic authors, to glamorize or romanticize jealousy. There's nothing romantic about jealousy. It's a very toxic emotion that can lead to bad - even dangerous - behavior. I personally believe it's insulting toward GG and DD to paint either one of them as 'the jealous type'.

There's a huge amount of disinformation floating around about the OOL photos, including claims that DD was wildly jealous and totally freaked out over them. I find that notion absurd and even offensive. It is insulting to DD's level of emotional intelligence, and makes uncharitable assumptions about his level of trust and respect for GG.

As I said, GG and DD are actors, and they know what that entails.

Unlikely Love (Female Idols) (S) (BXG)

Prom is only in a week and I'm ecstatic to go with my girlfriend Solar, we've both been looking forward to this day for a long time.

She already picked out her prom dress and I picked out my tuxedo, and all I need to do is officially ask her to be my date.

Today is the day that I'm going to ask Solar to be my date for prom despite the fact that we have different social statuses.

Solar is known to be one of the school's bad girls but she has a soft side for me, and I'm basically the school's nerd and introvert.

Honestly, I never wanted to have any interaction whatsoever because I simply want to graduate high school with no involvement in trouble.

Yet here I am, holding a bouquet of flowers, reciting my lines over and over to myself in the mirror in the bathroom when nobody is present.

I know it may sound weird but I don't want to mess this up and make myself look like a fool in front of her and everyone else.

Along with this clip. And it is something I want to address because I think this is a very important issue for all turtles to be conscious of.

I am referring to the way that video clips can be used to manipulate and mislead people. While I think it's likely the 'eyeroll' clip you shared was edited, even actual, real-time unedited footage can be misleading. A segment of action is selected in a way that removes context and gives an impression that might not be accurate.

I have another clip I want everyone to take a look at, one that is not being shared in turtle circles - one that paints an entirely different picture of what's happening. I think it would be pretty difficult for people to look at this clip and claim that GG and YZ don't get along, or that GG was avoiding being near her.

So, just a bit of a reality check and reminder for turtles - myself included, as I was taken in by one of the clips - that we must always thoroughly investigate claims, particularly negative ones, before buying into them. Very often we are being misled.

Now, that's not always intentional. Someone might just see something happening in some footage and get angry and interpret it in a certain way, and then share it with others, completely not realizing that they aren't seeing the whole story. But the narrative gets written and reinforced and we all go along for the ride.

So what is really happening on that stage?

Well, it looks to me like GG and YZ are getting along fine. It's possible they agreed to appear together in the final shot, maybe to appease those who voted them to be Weibo king and queen (they were chosen in the vote by a wide margin but likely didn't want the dubious honor again).

From what I can see they appear happy to do so, and I don't see any animosity or contempt between them. The idea that GG hates her is a popular turtle narrative that I think is clearly incorrect. And I vastly prefer the idea they are friends to the idea that GG is being plagued by someone he hates.

And a dear friend pointed out to me yesterday that there's likely a more charitable explanation for the guy manhandling GG in that one clip as well.

As we may already know, it's a cultural thing for people in China to be almost competitively modest, trying to defer to the other person, step aside and let others in front of them, etc. We see GG and YZ doing that to each other at the foot of the stairs to the stage. DD also did this as he was taking the stage that night, and he frequently does this with trying to bow deeper than other people, etc.

And as my friend pointed out, it looks like GG was doing that a bit with the guy directing traffic - modestly trying to let others ahead of him so that he wouldn't end up standing at the center of the stage (the place of honor).

It's possible that man was just nudging GG to his rightful place near the center (where the Weibo producers would have wanted him as one of the most popular stars of the night) rather than let him bow away from the spotlight. I hadn't even noticed that there was this weird light sign thing that they were all posing behind, I wasn't really paying attention to that, but the Weibo producers would have wanted him near the center for their photos.

I think the 'modesty' interpretation is much more charitable, and given all the evidence I think that we should at least consider the possibility that's what happened there.

I think CPN and personal interpretations are totally fine - everyone gets to decide their own take on things. HOWEVER, I think we need to be very careful about what sort of picture we paint of GG and DD, what kind of people we claim them to be at the very least. This turtle narrative of GG hating YZ often paints GG as a vindictive, angry, even rude person.

For example, there was a turtle claim that GG kicked the hem of YZ's dress in anger and moved it out of his way, when it's far more likely - and far more in character for GG - that he moved the hem out of the way so that it wouldn't be stepped on. It's more likely that he was being a gentleman and looking out for the safety of another person. He would do that for anyone, we know that about him.

And aside from what we claim about GG and DD, we should also strive to be fair and honest about the people around them. I've said this about Du Hua and about Meng Ziyi, and now I'm saying it about Yang Zi - we need to stop piling hate on the women around GG and DD. It's so toxic and so misogynistic.

I need to be clear that I'm not condemning anyone who has felt those things (nor am I judging Anon). I myself have fallen prey to some of that. We are all just doing our best based on the information we have. But I feel that - for myself anyway - when we're presented with unadulterated evidence that we were wrong, we need to revise our position based on that and admit where we were wrong.

We also can't be constantly threatened every time a woman comes within ten feet of GG or DD. I see this happen a lot with turtles. We shouldn't be so insecure. We know GG and DD love each other, and that these women are just friends and colleagues.

I've always felt it's so sexist that women are treated that way, to be honest. Like they can't be friends with men without it being treated as something more. And then everyone wonders why men and women struggle to understand each other and get along well. Maybe if they were actually able to socialize freely with one another without it being treated as sexual or romantic, maybe they'd be better at connecting with one another.

Gender role heteronormativity is such a negative force. Let's try to keep ourselves in check, and look out for the ways that it might be encroaching on our own interpretations.

Yes, GG's laugh did appear in the background of DD's card trick video. It's not edited in, it really did appear. I remember the first time I saw it I noticed the laugh myself, before turtles talked about it being a candy, and I was immediately 👀. Of course it could in theory be someone else laughing, but it's a pretty distinctive laugh. If it's someone else with the same odd laugh, that's a big coincidence.

The widespread translation of GG's interaction with Darren Wang on Sina day appears to be incorrect. The inital part of the conversation was covered on Marcus' YT channel, which can be found here.

The claim by some turtles is that as GG and Darren Wang are saying goodbye to each other, Darren Wang says, "You better get going or he (DD) will surely sulk."

I had a whole post about this somewhere in the past but I can't find it. A Chinese-speaking friend told me that's not what Darren Wang is saying, and that people are misinterpreting his words.

I asked @potteresque-ire to take a look and she agrees. Here's what she had to say:

In the turtle version of the dialogue, since there was a pause between 鬧你 and 的直播, they omitted the last three words. 鬧你 can mean "scold you ", and so they translate into sulk. TBH though, in addition to the three words being omitted, I don't think 鬧你 as "scold you" is common usage in mainland / Taiwanese mandarin; only Cantonese speakers talk that way.

Without the you — just 鬧 — would have supported turtles version more. But the you is clearly there.

And so, I lean towards Darren saying something about raising havoc to the live broadcast as well. On bilibili, one of the translations given (can be by a solo) is: "Later I will come to wreak havoc on your live broadcast".

Which aligns with what I remember my other friend telling me a while back (wish I could find that post).

Hate is a strong word so i dont think it’s hate but rather “discomfort” maybe? I dont think gg hates her, never in fact. But it’s quite probable (in my own perspective obvs) that he’s been annoyed with this situation for quite some time. I don’t think he would agree on “appeasing” fans at all considering he and his team must have already foreseen the outcome (hot search etc.). On the other hand, although this doesnt really affect me as a turtle as i long has been szd, it sort of feels like a “slap” to turtle if i was to entertain the idea that gg agreed on the standing side by side with yz on the stage as it was something that im sure he knew that turtles had been excited for ggdd to finally share stage prior to the event (and it didnt happen)

I feel like the point of my post has been missed, here. I don't want to lose sight of that point by digging into a big debate about whether GG would agree to stand beside YZ or not. It's not the point of what I'm trying to say.

For years turtles have indulged in hate toward YZ, and have spun detailed narratives about how horrible and manipulative she is, and how much GG hates and resents her behavior. I myself have fallen prey to some of these narratives.

I do agree with you that the GG/YZ ship has caused him some headaches. However it's a tiny, tiny group of people, and it's a somewhat inevitable outcome of having starred in a romance drama alongside her. It just goes with the territory.

Any way you slice it, GG and YZ were voted king and queen and didn't take the stage in that role. I think it would be entirely too charitable toward Weibo to assume they'd just pass it over to someone else without being given anything in return. I personally suspect this shared stage at the finale was what they agreed to. Perhaps not side by side - I'll concede that the clip makes him appear puzzled to be pushed next to her - but on the same final stage.

There's no doubt that these things are negotiated up front, as a condition of attendance. Stars aren't going to agree to appear at an event without agreeing in advance to what is going to take place, so whether it's side by side or as a group but not together, GG agreed to stand on the same stage as her.

And whether or not he agreed to stand next to her, it's utterly undeniable that he voluntarily waited for her to get to the stage and urged her take the stage ahead of him, he interacted with her in a friendly way, he chatted with her as they were leaving the stage. If the turtle narrative about him not wanting anything to do with her was true, there's no way he would have done any of that.

It's all right there in the clip I shared.

As for your last bit there about it being a 'slap' to turtles that GG would agree to appear onstage with her but not appear onstage with DD - that's something I deeply disagree with. I have said this over and over again throughout the lead-up to Weibo Night - turtles need to be realistic about what they think they're going to see.

It was never a guarantee that GG and DD would appear on the same stage, and any thought of an interaction was a wild pipe-dream. Any disappointment any turtle feels about it is a result of their own unrealistic expectations. DD didn't even stay for the whole event, as he had to return to filming. We should all consider ourselves lucky that we got to see him at all.

The event wasn't about their relationship, and they didn't appear there as a couple. It was an industry event.

You're free to interpret things however you like, and you're free to approach fandom however you like. I'm just expressing my own thoughts on this, and stating why I think turtles as a fandom have been unfairly awful to YZ, when as far as I can tell GG gets along with her just fine.

The entire point of my post was to highlight the way turtles treat GG and DD's female friends and colleagues. It's unacceptable in my eyes. It's awful. I don't think GG and DD would be proud of our behavior.

Let's not obscure that key point by focusing on our own hurt feelings about unrealistic expectations.

I ask that people don't send me more messages about this topic unless you have something major to add to the discussion that you can't simply state in the notes. I don't want my day to be taken up with this topic. Thanks.
