God… listening to ep 129 and 130… I’m getting so emotional about the way the Nein are getting their affairs in order. Saying goodbyes.
It’s about Veth and Jester promising Yeza and Marion that they’ll come back alive, but you know that they don’t really believe it. It’s about Caduceus telling his sister that he doesn’t think he’ll come back, but he’d like his name somewhere in the Grove if his family doesn’t get his body back.
It’s about the rest of the Nein not having anyone to say goodbye to like this, because they are already each other’s closest family. It’s about wondering if it’s better to have people you love and have to leave, or to go to your death with the people you love most at your side.
It’s Veth saying this is the last time. It’s Caduceus saying it has to be me because I don’t want it to be you.
These episodes are really hitting so hard.

Jester going to the Gentleman’s door and not knocking, just touching the door and momentarily listening to her reunited parents talk before leaving, broke my heart.
Jester is the one who was always optimistic, the glass isn’t just half full it’s definitely full, she always finds the silver lining. She always felt pretty confident that things were going to turn out well. Like in her books, a happy ending.
But now she knows things don’t work like that, life isn’t like her books so she’s taken a hit from that. The glass is less full. And she doesn’t even think she is coming back, she knows there’s a chance that she won’t. She isn’t sure if any of them will come back, and she is scared.
Then she talks to Fjord, trying to give him some closure with his old captain, the closest thing he had to a father. Like what she got with her parents, no unfinished business. But Fjord doesn’t want that, he says they will go see him when they are done with all of this. He says it like he’s saying the sun is going to rise tomorrow, just a fact.
And he fills up her glass again.

And yet ANOTHER late night Critical Role pondering...
OH SHIT.
I JUST HAD A THOUGHT.
Back in C3E11 (”Chasing Nightmares”), during the Bells Hells’ visit to House Lumas, they’re told that the Lumas twins were studying, among other things, “crystal fauna.” (A term that Matt often conflates with “flora” -- fauna refers to animal life, flora refers to plant life.)
If the Lumas twins were studying crystal FLORA (yes I’m a pedant, deal with it), are these... MAYBE... the same purple crystals that Caduceus’ family had planted and were growing as trees in the Blooming Grove to push back the corruption of the Savalirwood?!
Beyond that, you can see a number of these odd, if beautiful, purple crystal structures. These almost tree-like, twisting pillars of natural, purple crystal that sit at the perimeter of the grounds. They ever so faintly thrum with a faint light.
And as you peruse the exterior, you can see the elements of those crystalline trees, the four that have magically assembled since their implantation at the outskirts of the Grove. The trees themselves are semi-translucent. There's purple and pink, almost woven threads, like braided textures of different types of crystal that bind and twist into each other. The roots themselves extend and follow the perimeter of the premises. They stand probably eight, nine feet tall, thin, but nevertheless stalwart in where they're placed.
(C2E130, “The Calm Before the Storm”)
If this crystal flora only grows in certain parts of the Heartmoor... how did it get there? What’s there? And what might it be ‘protecting’?
ALSO...
Are THESE the crystals that Birdie Calloway has hanging in the interior garden of the Calloway Layaway? And *NOT* parts of the Gnarlrock?
You can see where the green is centered around each of these, there are, hung from the ceiling from long strings of rope and wrapped around a small net that carries them, a handful of these small, purplish stones, rough-hewn, that give off a faint glow, and all the greenery seems to be growing towards it. It's almost like all the flowers and all the trees and the elements are reaching towards the light, and you get the sense that this is what's giving the life force to the interior of the space to allow them.
(C3E30, “Reunion and Revelation”)
For that matter...
Are the purple healing crystals of the Savalirwood related to the Gnarlrock? Since they ALSO have the purpose of transforming and improving things?
But the Gnarlrock is malevolent...
It is a a stone that-- There are many theories as to how it got there. Some believe it's always been there. Some believe it was placed there, it grew there. There are many individuals within the Fey Realms that have their theories, but what's known is where it resides, everything around it mutates and twists and this mass thicket of nightmare nature now entwines for miles and miles around the Gnarlrock. This is but a small shard that seems to have been taken from it.
(C3E17, “Heart-to-Heartmoor”)
Are the crystals from the Savalirwood an ANTI-Gnarlrock? Or has the Gnarlrock itself been corrupted so that what was once life-giving and true and good has become warped, somehow?
And if so, by what or by whom?

you mean to tell me. you mean to tell me that the night before the nein showed up on cad’s doorstep, he dreamed of the nine eyes?
you mean to tell me that caduceus, high on lily juice, after a decade of solitude, had a vision of the end of the world from his deity that implied they’ll take you there so get ready?
and then he didn’t think about it again until vokodo’s mind shrapnel triggered a series of too-familiar nightmares that he just, what, wasn’t going to mention?
caddy boy, why don’t you ever talk about your feelings

Veth giving Luc the smaller antlers she had made to look like hers and him getting all excited, posing with his crossbow, “I look like my mom!”
I really hope we see him in the future, still wearing antlers. He’s going to be like a rogue/wizard combo, with connections to crime organizations and probably some alchemy skills. He’s going to be unstoppable!
Maybe with his own adventuring group, Kiri and TJ can be part of it. With a blink dog sidekick.

I bet the reason Pumat could see through the M9′s disguises is because he has Truesight or a similar ability enchanted into his inventor’s goggles... just pop down the right lens and you can see the classic all-girl adventuring party that just came into your establishment is actually your favorite ramshackle group of chaotic assholes who think that you, a prestigious arcane enchanter, might sell them milk and cereal

so i have something to contribute to the discussion on the caleb frumpkin scene eventually, i've just had very little time to properly collate my thoughts, and overall i agree with both takes i've seen around and i think it's a very grey situation with a lot of nuance
but my favourite thing has been watching precisely three reactions come out of that:
1) this is good for caleb because he's finally moving on from the past that haunts him
2) this is bad for caleb because he's trying to detatch himself from everything that matters to him because he doesn't expect to survive and in his very trauma filled headspace is lowkey giving up
3) you DITCH frumpkin?? you ditch his body like the football? oh! oh! jail for caleb! jail for caleb for One Thousand Years!!!!

As I am watching ep 130 of the 2nd campaign, I need to slowly come to terms with the fact that soon I’ll have to say goodbye to the mighty nein and the plethora of the various npcs populating wildemount.
I remember when I first started watching, it seemed IMPOSSIBLE to ever get finished with the whole campaign, so I had no issue fully latching into this loveable weird little bunch that make up the m9. I still have 10 episodes, 40+ hours left and I am already getting sappy. I can’t imagine how he’s it must be for all of them. They have spent hundreds and hundreds of hours becoming and BEING those characters and then suddenly… you have to bid this sort of you goodbye. My heart already hurts so much.
