#can you tell that gendrya is my otp

She closes her eyes, feeling all the emotion consume her. She wills herself to lock everything deep inside of her, trying to slip back into her mask.
It doesn’t work as well as she hopes.
This started out as a headcanon I yelled at @anniebibananie and then snowballed into a one shot. The last time I wrote a Gendrya fic, I was really bad at this. I'm still really bad at this, but whatever, I have a lot of feelings to process because I've been waiting 7 seasons for this.

Love and Lust
There has been some thought that the depiction of the sex between Arya and Gendry was just that of Arya wanting to see what it was all about or even just horny lust. While those were both clearly aspects of what happened, I think anyone seeing either of those things as the only interpretation of their love scene—because, yes, it was a love scene—missed out on quite a few key things not only in that scene but in their interaction earlier in the episode.
I also think that all of their interaction in this episode—including the lustier aspect of their lovemaking—made it fairly clear that, no, Gendry is not going to being dying in the upcoming battle. Read on…
The first episode established their attraction to one another with the flirting calling back to their shared history. This episode upped the ante with the attraction by adding a dose of lust, but deepened it by showing both the trust and ease they still share with one another that we know neither would easily share with others due to what’s happened to them in the intervening years.
There was a reminder of their history again (she remembered that he's a smith’s apprentice), he told her about beyond the wall, she called him out on glossing it over and made him tell her the truth. They were completely real with one another.
Arya showed Gendry her skill with a knife and her knowledge of death, making it clear how skilled a fighter she is, not hiding who she really is. Gendry told her that he was Robert Baratheon’s son, what Melisandre had done to him (in so many words) and his sexual history. That’s a lot of private, vulnerable information to share. And yet both did it easily. (Well, OK, Gendry was a bit cutely flustered with his last bit of share.)
There was so much stuff that the episode’s writer Bryan Cogman got in their two scenes... so much about their history, their trust in one another, their feelings, and how much set-up for what's to come to. All of that? Was showing how strong the foundation this relationship has.
I will circle back to some of these points later with regards to Gendry’s future, but first, let me tackle their other scenes. I mentioned at the top that their sex scene was a love scene and not just about horny lust or Arya wanting to try sex. And going into detail about that first scene was part of laying that down. But the second scene before the love scene as well goes into that.
It’s obvious with regards to Gendry that it is not just lust. The boy is completely gone for her. We saw that in the first scene after she threw the dragon glass knives and then said she wanted her weapon again and walked away, Gendry—unlike most sane people—looked completely awestruck and watched her walk away with hearts in his eyes. He’s completely lovestruck.
Also, in this second scene, after Arya made it clear that she wanted to have sex, Gendry’s said her name all soft and breathily. He didn’t pull away, he didn’t resist, he said her name and you could read exactly what he was saying in that exhalation of her name and by the expression on his face. He was saying: ‘Girl, you know I love you, but I'm not sure we should do this because I want to treasure you and treat you right, you know—’ But then she kissed him and he was like 'OK, fuck it, I'm having some SEX with milady! YEAH!'
And another so not just lust for Gendry, although this was more in between the lines. They wouldn’t have all but made the guy pretty much this close to a virgin. I mean… seriously. Honestly, I figured Gendry being practically a virgin would be fanon. I can’t believe that they basically made it canon. The guy was off of the show for three years—looking like that, fine as all hell—and they canonically had him actually say he only had sex with three women?! Bronn was literally with three women at the same time in the previous episode. I mean, yeah. Arya Stark is his fucking OTP. That essentially was the show’s shorthand way of saying so.
Finally, anyone saying that this love scene was just lust was not paying attention to the last five to ten seconds. The final shot of Gendry before she comes down for the kiss he's just looking at her with complete and utter love in his gaze. Joe Dempsie played that like Gendry just completely adores Arya.... total heart eyes there.
So, you know that had to have been the direction, in the script, the plan… not lust… but love. And there is this comparison shot from Jon and Daenerys’ first-time making love where she is looking up at Jon with love and it is LITERALLY the exact same framing. LITERALLY.
From a directing point of view that is really telling. Jon and Daenerys are supposed to be this great love and there you have literally an IDENTICAL shot of Gendry and Arya. What these two shared in this episode was a lusty love scene, not just a sex scene. You can feel lust and love at the same time.
And, yeah, it was love for Arya too. She just didn’t quite realize it. But look at her face as she’s leaning down to kiss him. It’s dark and we don’t get the best angle because it’s a close-up, but there’s a softness there you can see. Which leads us to that final scene. She’s not numb; she’s not dissatisfied. She’s freaking the ever-loving fuck out.
She was feeling all kinds of hot, hot lust for him sure, and then she opened herself up to the feels and suddenly it was hitting her, she might die, *he* might die. And it was gonna hurt. A LOT. She’d already lost him once and it was going to be a helluva lot worse now because she’d re-opened herself up to him a lot more now. And in the past, Gendry hadn’t allowed himself to open himself up to her, but now… this time he had. They were open to each other and now they could very well both lose each other. She was shaken to the core. That was what we saw from her in the final scene.
A few additional thoughts…
- I loved the parallels beginning each of their scenes. Gendry doing his thing and then there was Arya watching him silently in the first scene. In the second, Arya doing her thing, Gendry watching her.
- Speaking of Arya watching Gendry in that first scene, damn, she was all but licking her lips…
- And then that little eyebrow raise she gave him when he first saw her and that smoldering look he sent back her way in return.... SO HOT!
- Joe Dempsie and Maisie Williams have such great chemistry. Damn, that scene was so fucking hot.
- Hah, it was funny. Silly Gendry, he was trying to assert some kind of dominance at one point, reaching out to wrap his hand around Arya’s head while they were kissing.... and boom within like two seconds, she shoved him onto the bags, LMAO. Nope, Gendry, she's the dominant.... always.
- Aww, but she let him take off his own pants. She was in complete command from beginning to end, but still gave him his own agency. She's so sweet.  It was definitely mutual all around.
- Speaking of… after Arya said that, the way he was so quickly untying those laces, LMAO.
- I did love that Arya just shoved him down (and, yes, it did remind me of when she did it when he kept calling her “Milady” back in season 02).
OK, circling back to Gendry’s future like I said I would… a lot that happened in this episode between these two actually made me more strongly believe that Gendry will *not* be dying any time soon. Why?
1.) Arya’s commentary about knowing death. 2.) Her knife-throwing kills. 3.) The focus on her scars, and then Gendry focusing on her scars. 4.) Gendry bringing up her wanting him to come to Winterfell. 5.) The fact that despite all of the set-up and the obvious love from Gendry’s side, Arya went into it just wanting his hot body to give her some loving. 6.) Gendry telling her he’s Robert Baratheon’s bastard. 7.) Arya’s realizing that she’s scared out of her ever-loving mind of losing Gendry (because, yeah, I’m sure that’s what the final scene meant).
In other words, there was SO MUCH SET-UP for more of their love story to flourish to come. Not to mention that Gendry still has more weapons to make, the Baratheon line is not going to die out. GRRM had three Baratheon bastards in the books and yet D&D only brought ONE to the show. I highly doubt it was just so that Arya could lose her virginity to him. If it was to have an “emotional impact” on her when he died… she would have been the one all “heart eyes emoji” during the love scene as opposed to Gendry.
Also, Joe Dempsie is wearing a Baratheon-style costume in the behind-the-scenes video for episode 01 while sitting on the set of a sunny climate and I doubt that Michelle Clapton would have created that for funsies.
Ergo, Gendry is not dying.
Thank you for coming to my Gendrya-themed Ted Talk.

Is there other stuff that makes you think hbo messed with gendrya?
Oh, man, I’m probably gonna be thought of as the Murray Bauman of the fandom…. But yeah, there’s actually quite a bit that makes me think that it’s possible. When season 8 first aired, I thought that maybe executive meddling shot them down for some reason, most logically to protect spinoff potential.  They might have let the show “test the waters” but ultimately wanted them left ambiguous.
I thought it was… interesting… that Gendry and Arya had by far the gentlest, most amicable breakup in the entire series— and that it was over Gendry’s lordship that he straight up said wasn’t worth anything without Arya—when HBO UK made a cryptic tweet that made me wonder if someone high up was leery of the pairing/fan reaction.  If they wanted the option for an Arya Stark spinoff someday, I could see why they wouldn’t want her to end in a relationship they thought might be poorly received.
I also thought that maybe since Gendrya went so far out of the show’s usual M.O. (to the point that it was one of the very few things about season 8 that I was wildly off about) that their thought process might have plausibly been something like, “Gendrya can’t be endgame? Well, fuck it. We’ll go all out and have them do pretty much everything else: Make out, spend the night together, save the world, say, ‘I love you,’ and get down on one knee to propose.”
I also thought that I was probably just a tinfoil-hat-wearing weirdo saying, “My OTP wasn’t definitively endgame! It must be a conspiracy.”
But I rewatched the whole season a little while ago and I noticed some things that I think are… interesting. Although, you should keep in mind that it was during two VERY long and VERY boring days at work where I had nothing to do.
I could just be shipper trash, seeing what I wanna see. Maybe not. I’m just saying that I’d believe it if something was up. From the way they portrayed Arya and Gendry, in general and especially in comparison to Jon/D-ny (I’ve anti tagged but if you don’t have blacklisting enabled, this is your fair warning), I could believe that the writers like the ship. And while Arya is certainly not the poster child for perfect mental health, there isn’t anything to suggest she would be toxic in a long term relationship. She isn’t selfish or cruel. I also don’t think that she hates herself the way that Sandor and Jaime did and that she believes she deserves to be “punished” or alone. She didn’t say anything to Gendry about not wanting to be a wife, just not a lady.
They’re consistently portrayed as a healthier/more favorable foil to Jon and D-ny:
In 8x01, D-ny swoops down on Winterfell and is cavalier as fuck about resources.  She has no comment about food except that dragons eat “whatever they want.” The next scene, we see Gendry running to catch a chunk of dragonglass that was about to tumble out of the wagon. He tells everyone to be careful because they need every last bit of it. He then goes on to climb up the wagon, much like Arya did in the pilot episode. I think it’s even in the same spot. If not, it’s very similar.
Also 8x01, D-ny tells Jon, “keep your Queen warm” and while they are kissing, Jon keeps opening his eyes and freaking out because scary dragons are eyeballing him. And D-ny is pretty much like, “Don’t worry about it, it’s cool.” Even though she’s already made a few jokes about how if they decide to roast Jon then he’s shit outta luck and she threatened Sansa. Then the very next scene is Gendry and Sandor just before Arya finds them. Arya teases Gendry as well but she also defends him from Sandor, compliments him, jokes he should “keep close to that forge” if he’s cold and tells him not to call her Lady Stark. They laugh and banter and all awkwardness fades away and they’re both grinning like dorks. Arya actively wants Gendry to see them as equals; D-ny subconsciously wants Jon in his place.
Even as the dead are practically in their backyard, D-ny keeps obsessing about the throne. Meanwhile, Arya’s station doesn’t bother Gendry anymore because he knows it doesn’t matter. He also signed up to help Jon immediately without asking for anything in return.
Arya and Gendry each seek the other out in 8x02 but Jon spends a lot of it trying to avoid D-ny until the last moment
8x02 Arya and D-ny find out Gendry’s and Jon’s parentages. It makes no difference to Arya, she loved Gendry when he was a barmaid’s bastard and she loves him when he’s a king’s son. Jon’s  bio father shatters D-ny’s whole world.
Most of Jon’s family (this includes Sam) distrust and fear D-ny. Jon and Sandor like Gendry and Sansa and Bran have no complaints at least.
Their ~love scenes~ have a few shots that mirror each other, too.  But we see the buildup for Arya and Gendry, their conversation, their first kiss, undressing each other. We see Jon and D-ny and in the middle of things, during a montage explaining how they’re closely related and narrated by Jon’s little brother. Not exactly sexy. Then it cuts to Tyrion lurking nearby looking troubled and finally ends with an ominous shot of the Targ flagship in the dark and gloom. Meanwhile, Arya and Gendry are alone, not related, and are the sole focus of the scene. There’s not even music.
In 8x04, at the funeral, Gendry and Arya are initially a good distance apart. Then after they light the pyres, you get a shot of Arya with (an admittedly very blurry) Gendry visible over her shoulder. Meanwhile, Jon and D-ny stand together while lighting the fire and then they part.
Gendry’s “I love you” to Arya is enthusiastic and happy and D-ny’s to Jon is coming from a place of mourning at best and it’s straight up manipulative at worst.  The words “I love you” are rare in this show. I can only remember Jorah saying it a couple of times, Littlefinger to Cat and Sansa, Joffrey pledging to wed Margaery, and Robb to Talisa. The only times it’s not sad or creepy are Robb and Gendry.
These two scenes are the most glaringly obvious. But to summarize, Arya tries to set Gendry “free” when his life changes in a direction she doesn’t want for herself and D-ny tries to put Jon into a corner and make sure his life CAN’T change into one that she doesn’t want.
So with that stuff in mind, I could buy that maybe they wanted Arya and Gendry to reunite in King’s Landing and try to save civilians together.  Or maybe have Jon ask Gendry to take Arya as far away as he can before Jon goes to that throne room to do what he has to do. Hell, look at Arya’s final scene as is: She’s on a ship and then you see her Stark sigil on the sail against the sunlight… If Gendry was with her, that’d sure look like a happier version of D-ny and Jon’s scene from the end of season 7…   While probably a bit too on the nose for GRRM’s books, I could see the show implying that Gendry and Arya are the second, more hopeful verse of the Song of Ice and Fire…
Other Season 8 Subtext-y things:
Marriage imagery; Arya under Gendry’s cloak. Bonus points for it being shown during these lines from Jenny’s song: “spun away all her sorrow and pain/and she never wanted to leave.”  “She spun away and said to him, ‘no featherbed for me.’”
Pretty much all of Gendry’s scenes in season 8 are with Arya or he’s with Sandor, talking about her. The small handful of times he’s not with either of them, he’s with her siblings and other people connected to House Stark like Tormund and Davos and even Sam and Edd.  After their “breakup” he virtually disappears. Pretty much the ENTIRE reason they brought him back was for Arya and to be tied strongly to House Stark.
Beric and Melissandre, who once wanted to sacrifice Gendry for “the greater good” and caused Arya to turn towards a darker path, sacrifice themselves to defeat the dead, not only saving Arya’s and Gendry’s lives but guiding Arya further into “light.” To the point where she literally ends the Long Night.
Gendry tells Arya that she’s beautiful and he loves her and gets down on one knee to ask her to marry him… Which is so wildly uncharacteristic for this show that I still can’t believe that it’s real. It’s by far the most traditional romantic moment in the entire series.  I suppose it could just be fan service, but 8x02 would have sufficed on that front. Not to mention that “fan service” in this show has never been something so wholesome.
They could have done the proposal differently. They could have had Gendry say crap like, “Now we can settle down and live a boring, respectable life” or something else that would have been really unappealing to Arya. It actually would have been another connection to Robert/Lyanna, where Robert only loved his idea of Lyanna. But nope. They could have framed it as Gendry trying to do the honorable thing or “they’re gonna marry us off anyway, at least we like each other.” But nope.
Gendry could have been put off by Arya’s combat skills but he was turned on by it. She even used her “game of faces” voice on him and it didn’t send him running for the hills.
They also could have easily had Gendry be too “tame” for Arya but nope.  Her face at this part just kills me.
They made a thing out of Gendry being “forever loyal” to D-ny after she legitimized him but he had jack shit to say about her at the Great Council and was all too happy to vote for King Bran, even after Arya had turned him down.
A follow up to that other post in regards to a Gendry-ish looking guy grabbing Arya and asking if she’s seen his wife, Alanna: Magaery’s cousin with the same sounding name gets a GRRM-esque weird spelling: Allana with two Ls and one N. As opposed to the more traditional spelling that looks more like Lyanna….
One of the surviving lords at the Great Council is specifically from the Storm Lands. He’s probably who has had Storm’s End for the last few years and maybe he doesn’t deserve to get kicked out by a boy who doesn’t have any idea how to be a lord and doesn’t even want to be a lord without Arya.  He even has a name: Lord Une.  The Dornish prince doesn’t have a first name but this guy does?
Also, Une is a very unusual name. It’s not from the books and it doesn’t really sound Medieval Europe-y, either. Maybe there’s an inside joke or something? That’s definitely not a name you just pull from the air.
Arya lights Beric’s funeral pyre but if Sandor didn’t have issues with fire, I think he probably would have done it as Beric’s last surviving friend. It kind of gives us the sense that Arya can do what Sandor can’t—which of course, she ultimately does when she decides to leave Cersei while Sandor, who has missed so much being hurt and angry, can only have peace/forgive himself is if he stops Gregor forever.
In the very next scene after the funeral, we see Gendry and Sandor talk about Arya. Sandor basically says that normal, living people have emotions and hormones and it’s not a bad thing.  Sometime later, we see Sandor scare off a girl who makes a pass at him. The next scene is Gendry and Arya. Arya also ‘rejects’ her love interest but it’s in an infinitely more thoughtful way. We already know that it’s easier for Arya to be close to other people than it was for Sandor. Arya just has a little bit more to go until she’s completely ready for something serious.
Episodes 1 and 2 establish a pattern of “Sandor then Gendry.” It’s how they arrive at Winterfell. It’s how they reunite with Arya. It’s how Arya visits them towards the end of 8x02. Sooo again, I could see at one point the intention was for them to reunite in King’s Landing. Possibly during that bit where it keeps cutting back and forth between Sandor and Arya; “hateful” Gregor grabs Sandor up to throw him around and “loving” Gendry lifts Arya to save her from getting trampled. Nora, the name of the kind stranger who does help Arya, is essentially the “female equivalent” of Gendry’s name.
According to the leaked outline of season 7, Gendry was originally supposed to be rescued by Benjen beyond the wall. In season 8, he has scenes with Jon, Sansa, and Bran, and even Edmure and Robin. ALMOST LIKE THEY WANTED HIM TO MEET *ALL* OF ARYA’S FAMILY. I’m pretty sure only Tyrion has met more Starks and Tullys than Gendry.
The “Ice battle” was at Arya’s childhood home and the “Fire battle” was at Gendry’s. And yeah, I think it’s pretty damn weird that a capable, uninjured soldier who has knowledge of King’s Landing isn’t there.
They gave them a reference to The Princess Bride: “As you wish.” Comparing them to a beloved couple from a modern classic is a good sign. Comparing them to most likely a childhood favorite? Even better. Comparing them to a couple where their other famous line is “Death cannot stop true love. All it can do is delay it for a little while.” And Arya and Gendry are still alive.  Actually, it might be a coincidence but they do have a SHIT-TON in common with The Princess Bride. GRRM is a fan, too, so maybe it was discussed at some point. It’s certainly uncanny if it wasn’t at least partially intentional. But that’s a different post.
Sandor knows about Gendry and Arya and he doesn’t rip Gendry’s head off. Gendry basically got a blessing from Arya’s last legal guardian.
Their outfits reflect each other’s houses, Gendry’s clothes having some very Stark direwolf-like scratch marks and Arya’s scabbard is yellow and black aka Baratheon colors.
I haven’t listened to it yet, but apparently in the leaked audio commentary for 8x06, they talked about how Joe wanted Arya to notice how hot Gendry looked.
Other stuff that makes me think that the writers like Gendrya:
They gave them a lot of time and focus. Even in season 8 where they had very limited time. And objectively speaking, that time probably should have been spent with Arya and her siblings.
They had Arya befriend Gendry earlier and easier than she does in the books.
In behind the episode of 8x02, Benioff talked about how you choose to spend your last night on earth says a lot about you. The very first example he gives is Arya wanting to be with Gendry.
They are always depicted positively:  They trust each other; they respect each other; they make each other laugh; they protect each other.  Even during their “breakups” in season 3 and 8; they are honest and accepting of each other’s decisions.  These two are young and inexperienced but they manage to be more mature and healthier than 95% of the other couples.  Their relationship also doesn’t doom them the way that Robb and Talisa’s did.
They changed stuff from the books to make it– not more romantic per se given Arya’s age– but certainly shipping fuel that fit more into romantic tropes: How they meet, how Gendry discovers that she’s a girl, how Arya blatantly checks him out when he’s shirtless. Their long one-on-one and emotional “goodbye” scene where Arya says, “I can be your family.”
They changed/added lines to foreshadow “My Featherbed,” aka where Gendry is legitimized but gives it up for Arya: “I have a son, you have a daughter. We’ll join our houses” but leaving out how Robert specified Joffrey and Sansa. Changing “you’ll marry a king” and “no, that’s Sansa” to “you’ll marry a high lord” and “no, that’s not me.”  Davos telling Gendry how he became a lord to help his son and it actually got Mathos killed in battle.
The main bullet points of season 8 were largely what I was expecting and I was at least in the ballpark about a lot of the details. Like did I predict King Bran? No, but I knew he belonged in the south because he named his direwolf Summer. I knew the king or queen would be a dark horse and I was fairly certain Tyrion would be Hand. The few things I didn’t anticipate still seemed to validate the main themes and messages I thought that GRRM was going for. Like King Bran. Now I can’t believe I didn’t see it. Who better to “end the game of thrones” than someone who doesn’t want to play and also can’t be plotted against?
Gendrya is the one major thing that tripped me up. Seriously. I would have bet my fucking car that if Gendry didn’t die, he’d walk away from a lordship and be with Arya on her ship, even if the nature of their relationship was ambiguous.
So I could believe that they wanted or at least expected Gendrya to be endgame since season 1 and someone told them no. It could have been GRRM but I must admit that I have a difficult time believing that.
I guess I could see GRRM having the point of their relationship be that Arya is upfront and honest about what she wants and Gendry respects her decision and doesn’t turn into a bitter/mopey drunk. Or that Gendry dies and Arya doesn’t wallow in it forever… But there’s so much that makes me think that Gendry is meant to be the “sweet” part of Arya’s bittersweet ending, and at least be her True Companion.  Not to mention they’re still too young to really have a relationship in the books. Well, at least Arya is. And those particular parallels to Robert and Lyanna fall pretty flat in my opinion if they’re not romantically involved.   I mean, come ON. How the hell could it NOT end with the possibility of Lyanna’s niece/ Jon’s sister and Robert’s son/D-ny+Rags cousin???
Possible HBO Shenanigans:
I thought it was kinda funny that HBO UK–not Game of Thrones but an official HBO account– made a tweet shortly before 8x02 aired implying that Arya is eighteen… when she’s more likely sixteen (lots of reasons, not to mention that Maisie has even said that Arya is sixteen.) And sixteen is the age of consent in the UK anyway.  As far as I know, that was the only public attempt by HBO to quell controversy in an already hugely controversial season. Like, after The Bells, I don’t think anyone at HBO tweeted about “Ideally, good rulers don’t commit 2.5 times the amount of war crimes as the Night King.” So I do have to wonder if there’s a reason that they’re particularly invested and protective about Arya’s reception…
There was a huge shitstorm when Tommen and Margaery got married and pretty much most of that stuff was off screen.  Sure, Arya’s a bit older and Maisie was in her 20s while Dean-Charles was still in his teens… but people do tend to get much more outraged when it’s a girl with an older guy than vice versa.
There was also a big shakeup when AT&T acquired HBO and they got a new CEO early in 2019, a couple of months before season 8 aired. The former CEO seemed to have been championing Bloodmoon, that prequel that got canceled recently. He might have been pulling more for a potential Arya show back when the season was still being written… the new people at AT&T also seemed extremely upset over what the budgets for GoT and Big Little Lies did for their bottom line.
While HBO has stated emphatically that there are no current plans for an Arya spinoff, they were sure to tack on a “right now, a sequel […] doesn’t make sense for us.” I do believe that this is something they want to have in their back pocket.  There’s a lot of interest in the idea and if House of the Dragon does well, I won’t be shocked if five+ years down the line we get at least a movie or a limited series about Arya. It’s by far the easiest, since her character can be isolated from everyone else and there are tons of cool places to explore. Hell, if they were really desperate, they wouldn’t even need Maisie Williams to come back. They could just recast and say she’s wearing someone else’s face to hide from mercenaries or something.
GRRM gave an interview talking about how certain characters who have “a high Q rating” (popular) get pushed into more screen time. Bronn is almost certainly one of those characters. He’s always been a self-serving asshole, but the things that made him feel more like an affable rascal—his funny lines, his genuine and open fondness for Podrick—are all but gone in season 8. Not to mention that there’s the implied possibility he’s dying from some “pox.” In the outline for season 7, he’s much closer to “Season 8 Bronn.” Like, he was the one who was originally going to ask Jaime about Widow’s Wail and call Joffrey a “See-You-Next-Tuesday.” When Olenna said it, it was pretty funny. But coming from Bronn, it was a real dick move. I could believe that their “treatment” of Bronn in season 8 was a bit of a middle finger to him. The same way I could perceive Gendrya’s portrayal as being a “fuck you” if they weren’t allowed to actually be endgame.
TL;DR: Gendry and Arya are one of the very few healthy couples in the entire series,  and it could be argued that they even get “special” treatment. Both of them lived and while Arya certainly has been traumatized, she is not a walking dumpster fire who wouldn’t be good for him. It would have been only too easy for them to be portrayed as incompatible or worse but they weren’t. Their breakup is over a virtual nonissue. So it’s not out of the range possibility that they were a victim of executive meddling.
And please spare me any “bUt D&D aRe ToO STuPId tO dO tHis.” I’m not campaigning for them to win Pulitzers any time soon, but the notion that they’re complete nitwits is just silly. They both have M.F.A.s  from very good schools and their scripts/outlines that I’ve read have a lot of really clever and really well-thought-out references, ranging from history to poetry to literature to even The Rolling Stones.
I’m not saying that they intentionally did all this stuff but they certainly could have if they wanted to.

Thanks!
1. What was your first OTP? The first one I remember shipping was Zorro/Victoria back in the early ‘90s.
2. What is your current OTP? I’m a multi-shipper, I don’t have one OTP, I have all the OTPs. Cablanca, Snamione, Granada Sherlolly, and MysticShock are my most recent.
4. What is/are your favorite trope(s)? Bed-sharing, trapped together, fake dating, arranged marriage, marriage of convenience (especially if it’s modern), friends-to-lovers, idiots-to-lovers, secret admirer, all the fun stuff.
5. What is/are your least favorite trope(s)? Secret dating. Any kind of apocalypse, post-apocalyptic, or dystopia. I know there’s more but I can’t think of them right now.
8. Who is the most shippable person you can think of? Molly Hooper and Darcy Lewis, they’re my Little Black Dress characters.
9. Are there any fandoms you don’t have any ships for? Off the top of my head, no. Having somebody to ship is one of the main reasons why I like a book, movie, or show.
11. What makes a great ship in your own opinion? There just is something that makes me believe they are or would be good together.
12. What drives you away from a ship? Hate between the two characters that never changes within canon. It’s why I can’t get into Dramione or Drarry.
19. Do you prefer fluff, angst, or smut for your ships? ALL THE FLUFF! ALL THE SMUT! And enough angst to make things interesting.
20. Do you prefer bigger fanbases or smaller ones? Bigger fanbases have niches for the less-popular ships that smaller ones tend to lack, but smaller ones can be just as loyal if not more so to the ships they love.
22. Do you have any ships that you ship, but would never want to see as canon? Any Molly Hooper ships that aren’t Sherlolly, since that’s my main ship for her and I’d never want to canonically take her away from Sherlock.
23. Have you ever had a ship become canon, but you didn’t like how it was portrayed? Spike/Buffy. Steggy (they both deserved better than what Endgame gave them).
25. What are your favorite ships from a dead fandom? I guess this depends on the definition of “dead.” Going by “the show is done,” Braime, SanSan, Gendrya, Theonsa, and Sanrion.
26. What are your favorite shipping scenes? Generally speaking, first ILY, proposals, one spouse telling the other they’re having a baby, spontaneously dancing in the middle of the kitchen, all the good stuff.
28. What is your best shipping advice? Shipping is supposed to be fun. If you’re not having fun, something’s wrong. If you don’t like a ship, politely ignore it since other people do like it and it’s not nice to rain on their parade.
29. Do you like OCs (Original Characters)? Yes, when they’re well-rounded. @sobeautifullyobsessed has mastered that.
30. What are some of your favorite shipping blogs? @miz-joelys-sherlollilists, @miz-joelyskhanollyblog, and a few more that I can’t think of at the moment.

Salty Asks: 4, 19, 20 and 26 (I hope I can guess your answer for at least one of these 😉)
DAMN GIRL! Going for the jugular with these...I LOVE IT.
4. Do you have a NoTP in your fandom? Are they a popular OTP?
Alright. I cannot do anything that has Arya or Gendry with anyone that is not Gendry and Arya, respectively. Beyond that I have (what I think) is the obvious...j*rya and j*nsa absolutely disgust/baffle me. I just...can’t. Can’t. I don’t think they’re particularly popular but I have them blacklisted so I couldn’t really tell you.
Also, and I’ll apologize for this one because I genuinely want to like them but...j*nerys does NOTHING for me...which is baffling because I think Kit and Emilia have great chemistry. But their love scene made me so uncomfortable. I didn’t think they worked together at all. Maybe it’s because I knew going into it what the familial relationship is? I don’t know I legit just feel nothing when they had scenes together. I also have such a soft spot for Jon and Ygritte and it’s one of the things I thought the show didn’t totally butcher so there’s that too.
19. What is the one thing you hate most about your fandom?
The GoT fandom is HUGE. All of my previous fandoms (or even corners of fandoms) have been much smaller, ie. you pretty much knew everyone (usernames and real names!) and everyone had a way to contribute that was unique to them. Even the expanse of the Gendrya fandom is overwhelming. When it’s like that, what is meant to be a single unified clique becomes several cliques because it’s just impossible to think that this many people (different ages, countries of origin, languages spoken, life experiences, overall preferences, etc.) is going to all be on the same page at the same time. Most of my previous fandoms were for smaller ships so it was usually us against the rest of the fandom OR on the flipside, no one really bothered us. Instead people can be very combative/exclusive with their ideas (the call-out culture is INSANE, ie. posts that start with “anyone who thinks”...my eyes roll so far back into my head they nearly get stuck). I also think this speaks to the changing trend of fandom in general. I don’t give a flying fuck what anyone says, I don’t think everyone is as friendly/supportive in fandom as they used to be. Fandom culture/etiquette is so different than it used to be and I miss it every.single.day.
((**FOR EXAMPLE: old fandom culture had the unspoken rule that if you reblog an ask meme from someone you first have to send them a message with at least one of the asks. It was another way to get to know people and make friends. But whatever. *sips tea*))
20. What is the purest ship in the fandom?
GENDRYA forever and ever, amen. Honestly though, aside from them being one of my actual OTPs, they really are the purest. They knew each other as friends, respect one another regardless of gender/class differences, have that overall cinnamon roll-esque found family trope, etc. Gendry is also one of the only men in the series that is not a complete piece of human garbage and Arya deserves the world so it’s only natural that they be paired. I could go on and on but this is not me being salty and I’m preaching to the choir anyway so...
26. Most shippable character?
Jon. Which makes sense...protagonists are also typically the most shippable. ALSO, Kit is an absolute babe so I think there’s a tendency to ship Jon with many different characters based on a fan’s love of his portrayal of the character. Does that make sense?
Send me a salty ask!

My take of GOT8x01
-THAT OPENNING.
-They’re literally playing the song when Robert Beratheon and Cersei came to Winterfell...
-Dany taking pleasure in her dragons terrifying the northern folk (because that’ll win them over!)
-Jon’s face when Bran speaks... LOL
-Danys “the north is as beautiful as Jon claims, as are you” line to Sansa is cringy, and Sanasa isn’t having any of it.
-Bran dropping the bomb about the white walkers was sudden. Expected more of a reaction from Dany about viserion, but we got no time for that!
-Sansa was right about everything, including the north being unhappy with Jon for giving up his crown.
-Sansa bringing up the food is a big issue, and Danys they eat “whatever they want”... ASKFBDLDL FFS.
-Gendryas comin 😏
-at least the writers are aware they’re not Tyrion as clever as he’s meant to be and last season was all purposeful. Like he’s lost his edge, and while he was sincerely trying to help Dany, he wasn’t thinking of every angle like he normally would. Sansa pointing out that he’s a fool to believe Cersei would bring her army north hopefully puts him in his right mind sooner than later.
-Jon and Arya’s reunion!!! And Arya sticking up for Sansa is so fucking pure. The pack survives. Also, Jon and Arya picking on Sansa behind her back is something they used to do all the time, and now, like with Sansa, he has to figure out how Aryas changed as a person.
-Oh, look, Yara.
-someone pointed out that Bronns whores we’re talking about the Lannister soldiers Arya sat with last season are either dead or severely injured. Ed Sherran has no eye lids now.
-So, Bronn is charged with killing the Lannister brothers, but is handed Jofferys cross bow. So, cross bow for Tyrion as the weapon of choice he killed Tywin with ✔️ and Jofferys bow for being Jaime’s son ✔️ But will he also have to kidnap Sansa should that theory become reality, or is that the golden company, as speculated??
-Cersei misses getting laid. Desperate times, desperate meassures. Although they’re great together. OTP??
-YEEEEEH, THEON. that head butt tho, lol. “We’re even”
-Theon choosing to head north to fight along the starks as he should have to begin with and truly redeem himself is beautiful. Is Yaras understanding 😭
-David, stfu about marriage. That won’t make the northern folk like Dany anymore than they already do anyway. If he knew the north as well as he claims to, he’d know that.
-Dany does not respect the wisdom of age, Tyrion, unless she deems that wisdom to grow her power. aka, olena tyrell.
-Verys shutting down Davos’ marriage proposal lol
-Dany demanding everyone respect her because she’s “their queen” is tiring. Not even Cersei boats about her queenship this much. What is it Tywin said? “A man who has to say he is king, is no king at all”??
“If (Sansa) can’t respect me...” FUCKING WHAT. YOU GONNA BURN HER LIKE THE TARLYS??? Dude ...
-once upon a time, I LOVED Dany for her growing confidence in herself, but now it’s just arrogance that radiates from her and it hurts my heart.
-Jon riding Rheagal 😍 Jon not being able to gracefully climb into Rheagal is freaked out by the experience 😂 but seriously, this is as cool as the first time we saw Dany ride Drogon
-“we could stay a thousand years, no one would find us” reminded me if Yagriite’s “we should never leave this cave”
-It was a nice jonerys moment until he turned her so he could look at the dragons. Is that distrust from Jon in the dragons, worry from Jon that the dragons (more specifically dragon) doesn’t trust him??
-House Arya reunion 😍
-Genrya flirting overload 😏😏😏
-Dark, candle lit room
-Glover betraying House Stark, shocking.
“She’s not her father” “no, she’s a lot prettier” 👀 weird comment to add in.
-so, Jon, was it for the north or love?? Odd that they cut it off there. Shouldn’t he just say it’s for love, on screen, in that moment, considering he’s in love with Dany??? Unless pol!jon has more weight, and he is going to betray Dany for love/power.
-Sam having to THANK Dany after being informed that she killed his father and brother broke me. And you can see the turmoil on Joras face. Obviously he didn’t mention to Dany Sams family name, otherwise she would have been more hesitant to greet him, NOR was Jora aware Dany executed his family seeing as he arrived only after Dany returned to Dragonstone after that event. I can’t tell if she feels any remorse for the matter....
-Was full convinced Sam was gonna go off on Bran like all “you knew she executed my brother and father, didnt you?!”
-Dear, old Ned
-Sam being clumsy going into the crypts is adorable cause it’s how he and Jon first met, but it’s not cute cause he’s clumsy partly because of the news hed just recieved.
-Sam telling Jon about his family. Jon: I’m so sorry. And Sam just nods like “what are you gonna do about it??” Obviously sam is warning Jon Dany isn’t as good a person as Jon is trying to believe.
-Jon finding out he’s the legitimate heir to the throne is beautifully done, and I’m really glad sam was the one to tell him in private. It being done in front of Neds grave is even better.
-“you gave up your crown to save the people, would she do the same?” —no, she wouldnt, and Jon knows that deep down.
-“Stay back, he has blue eyes!” — “I’ve always had blue eyes!”
-Poor Ned Umber. Who knows, maybe he really did intend to return to winterfell. Him opening his eyes and screaming is shit of nightmares, ffs.
-But if the walkers already went through Last Harth (is that it?), how’s Tormund, Edd, and co supposed to make it to winterfell before the walkers??
-Jaime made it to Winterfell. Jaime locking eyes with Bran. Jaime being the old friend Bran was waiting for.
Overall, I can’t tell if I’m pleased or underwhelmed by the episode. Probably because it was just endless reunions. they were awesome!! And necessary. And I loved all the parallels, foreboding and heartwarming.
My thoughts so far:
Dany and Jon’s relationship isn’t going to be as overtly expected. The parallel in the beginning of the episode of them compared to Robert and Cersei isn’t a good sign for their relationship. It seemed like they used that song purely to show it’s a royal couple entering the courtyard of winterfell, as it initially was, but Cersei and Robert has anything but a healthy, loving marriage. They even admit their marriage was a sham.
Genrya is going to get me through this season.
I’m so curious how Jon is going to announce his parentage, and how he’s going to cope with the knowledge, and how the stark girls will handle the news. Arya will always think of him as her brother, but with Jones goggles on Sansas reaction is a variable.
What further reprocissions will don’t have to face for her actions?? Jon NOR Sam are aware of exactly how she executed the Tarlys—no one is, save for Tyrion and Jaime. I do believe Jaime will bring it up beginning of next episode. The matter of food was already brought up, and as far as I’m concerned she has no apprehension for her burning the food, and fully expects Sansa and the north to figure out how to feed everyone in her army. The dragons are going to become a problem before they become an asset. I just home the night king does take one more of them.
That’s all for now. 😘

8x02 (spoilers, obviously)
1. This episode bored me more than it probably should. I know that some things happened but... nothing happened! We got some bonding, some reunions (again), some unfunny Tyrion jokes (again), a sex scene (I’ll get back to that), a bit of talking, very little politics, no fighting at all, no CERSEI (I’m starting to suspect that Lena Headey adds about 75% of charisma to GoT and without her they’re struggling at 25%, desperately trying to use Tormund and little Lyanna Mormont as substitutes.)
2. Braime was perfect, I love them to bits, I wanna know which one of them is dying. Is it Brienne, is that why she was knighted? Thanks, I hate it. I was kind of disappointed with the opening scene but that’s only because it went 98% as I expected so I was a bit underwhelmed, understandably. If a show as hyped as Game of Thrones cannot surprise me then what’s left?
3. I love Gendrya, I ship Gendrya, I loved their first scene in 8x02 but I’m not gonna lie, their sex scene was very awkward to watch for me. I don’t know why. I’m happy for my baby Arya and I know she’s been through hell, she witnessed countless atrocities and killed many people but I think in my head she’s still just that: my baby Arya. I felt like a parent forced to watch their beloved daughter lose virginity. And I was in no way prepared for that.
4. TheonxSansa was cute, lovely and heartbreaking, I love them so much! I’m slightly terrified that they are going for a Theonsa vibe - not as an endgame maybe but if Jonsa won’t happen, maybe they’d still want to give Sansa a tender love scene similar to the GreywormxMissandei scene, and please, no. I don’t want Sansa to be with Jon because I want her to be with “anyone” - I want her to be with the dumbass Jon because I think that they are in love with one another. But if I’m wrong, I don’t want them to force her into anything with anyone, really, and I don’t see her as in love with Theon (although loving him terribly, yes).
5. Jon did not exist in this episode so I’m not gonna talk about him. :D
6. I’m sorry, I know what that DanyxSansa scene was about, I truly do, and it served its purpose so well, but Sophie and Emilia have such amazing chemistry that if they kissed passionately after their talk, I’d be the first to scream “OTP!!!” at the top of my lungs. Damn, girls, you’re too precious for this world!
7. Enquiring about northern independence, you go, Sansa!
8. I’m sorry but does Tyrion even have a purpose? He’s become as useless as S7 Littlefinger. I literally forced myself to stay awake during his scenes, and half of them included Jaime so that speaks volumes.
9. My tumblr is full of Jonsas celebrating the fact that Jon brushed Dany off and avoided her, using that as a proof for their future conflict and Jon’s allegiance to Sansa/the Starks. And as much as I think this will indeed happen, my conviction isn’t based on 8x02 because isn’t this exactly what would happen even if Jonerys was an endgame? He’d distance himself emotionally and avoid her until he understands his own feelings, so this proves nothing. I’m actually super curious as to why exactly did he tell her at this exact moment? If it’s political!Jon we’re talking about, wasn’t the point to keep her in the North no matter what, lie to her and manipulate her until the threat is dealt with? Why would he risk her wrath with the dead literally at Winterfell’s gates? If he truly loved her, wouldn’t he want to wait for a better moment to spare her pain in the midst of an apocalypse? If they die, she doesn’t have to know. If they live, they’ll have plenty of time to discuss it. If it was put there only to have her freak out and flee, that’s sloppy writing if I ever saw one. Damn it, I cannot wrap my head around his timing.
10. It didn’t feel much like Bryan Cogman, I expected more.
11. I know that the Starks will survive and that’s why they don’t share any scenes save for the war council, but wtf why wouldn’t they? We had time for Aryaxthe Hound 2.0 but we still don’t have Arya and Sansa exchanging actual words with one another? Even Tyrion spends this night with Jaime. Am I supposed to believe that most of them think they’ll die but Arya goes to Gendry, Sansa sits with Theon (well, at least he’s a Stark, too), Jon keeps brooding in the crypts, and Bran’s... where exactly? Already by the heart tree? Or did I miss something? Are they even going to say good-bye to one another, you know, as a pack?
12. Idek, I don’t like this season. 4 episodes left and still - NOTHING HAPPENED. Can I have a Daensa AU instead? I think I wanna see Sophie and Emilia smooch, sue me.

Saved A Little Trouble for the Next Girl
You guys!! This is my first ever modern au fanfic based off of GOT. It wasn't originally going to be apart of the GOT universe, but that changed real quick. Now, I usually write Gendrya fics, but I wanted to take my hand in writing some Jonerys. Now, I don't know how happy some of you may be with this, but I based it off a song so...It doesn't have a happy ending for our OTP. Nonetheless, I do hope you enjoy! Happy reading!!
The Louisville Slugger felt good in her hands. The slick wood slid in between her finger with ease. And the eight of the bat felt right in her grasp. She lifted the glorified wooden stick and swung with all her might, smashing in the front taillights, shattering them the pieces. Every inch of her body was suddenly released from a tension she didn’t realize she was holding.
This was the finale piece of revenge she had planned and it couldn’t have turned out better.
She stepped back and marveled at the masterpiece in front of her. The four wheel drive looked unrecognizable after she had gotten her hands on it. The tires were slashed, the side keyed, and her favorite; her carved name right into the pristine leather of the driver’s side seat. Every amount of anger when into the damage she had given the $75,000 dollar truck.
It’s not like the son of a bitch didn’t deserve it; he was cheating on her with some red-headed tramp he met when he went up north. Jon had always been a handsome man, and he had a way of making any woman fall head over heels for him, but Dany had trusted him. She always trusted him whenever he went on business trips. Most of the time we would be too preoccupied with business endeavors to even look at woman. But not this time.
It was supposed to be a simple business trip that he was taking with his uncle, Benjin. They owned a brewing company called The Wall and were going up north to negotiate with a smaller brewing company, The Wildling Corp. Instead, it turned into a two month long romp with some chick he meet that worked for the competing brewing company.
Dany was oblivious to the whole ordeal and didn’t find out until nearly a year later.
She hadn’t been snooping, she was merely looking for her phone that she had misplaced around their bedroom. She decided to borrow Jon’s phone, which she never touches, to ring her phone. She was about to hit the dial button when a message from an ‘Ygritte’ popped up. The name wasn’t familiar to Dany and without thinking she opened the message. Her whole world shattered as she read the sultry message written to her husband from a woman she didn’t know. The worse part about the situation is that he had been messaging her back.
Sometimes Dany had wished she never opened the damned message. If she hadn’t then she would still be obliviously happy with a man that she loved. Instead, she was a miserable mess who wanted nothing more than to see the bastard burn.
It took three months to finally catch him in the act and another two months for Dany to muster the courage to enact her revenge. For five bloody months she had to pretend that everything was rainbows and butterflies in their marriage. She loved him and comforted him, she even laid with him in those months, all the while her insides were screaming to choke the life out of him.
It wasn’t easy to catch him, but thanks to his younger sister, who had always loved Dany even if her brother was the biggest idiot in the world, she was able to finally see for herself what Jon had been up to.
Arya had mentioned to Jon about her boyfriend Gendry’s new bar, Hot Pie’s. She suggested that he should check it out and maybe see if they could agree on a brewing contract so Gendry could sell Jon’s beer in the bar. Jon had easily agreed, and considering that bar was an hour outside of where they lived, it would be a perfect place to bring his lover for a late night date.
Dany was grateful for Arya, for her boyfriend was able to snag a few pics of Jon and his lover together at the bar. She had shown them to Dany and was there for her when she began to sob with realization.
The next time Jon went to the bar, Dany had decided to follow him. She was going to carry out her revenge plot that night and no one, not even the old gods or new, would be able to stop her.
It wasn’t hard to keep up with him, considering the size and color of the pick up her drove. It was a bright white color and it wasn’t too hard to miss, especially in the dead on night. The Ghost Edition, was what it was called. Dany remembered when the truck company that Jon loved had announced the limited edition truck. It came with all the bells and whistles and Jon had wanted nothing more.
He wanted it so bad and with him and Dany being promoted in their respective fields of work, they could afford it. She had agreed to get if for him, so long she was able to get her Drogon Motorbike that she wanted for quite some time. She wasn’t surprised that he had agreed to that proposition and sometimes she believed that he loved that truck more than he loved her.
So the realization of him cheating on her should have surprised Dany as much as it did. She couldn’t ignore the fact that there were problems going on in their marriage. After four years, it seemed as if the fire that ignited them both had slowly gone out. They used to be in love with each other, but it seemed as if, over time, the love that was there was now lost. The first two years of their marriage had truly been a dream for Dany. They did everything together and couldn’t keep their hands off of each other. It wasn’t until they started trying for a baby that their relationship began to fracture. No matter how many times they tried, Dany just couldn’t get pregnant. There was a time that she did and just two months later they lost the babe. It was devastating for them both, but Dany had a harder time coping with her unborn child’s death.
After that whole ordeal, they agreed that it would be too dangerous and decided to stop trying all together. But Dany is stubborn and was raised not to quit, so unbeknownst to Jon, she went to every specialist she could to try to find out why she was unable to conceive. When she finally came across a doctor that was able to help her, she was elated. She couldn’t wait to tell Jon that there was a medication that she could take to help her conceive. They day she decided to tell him had been the day she found that message.
Aside from the one time after she found out about his infidelity, they hadn’t been intimate and she was beginning to feel an overwhelming feeling of emptiness sweep over her body. When she finally decided to take some revenge, she disclosed her plan to Arya and she quipped that Dany had gone mad. Perhaps she had, but Jon was the one who took her there.
When she arrived at the bar 30 minutes after Jon, she could see the white truck parked on the side of the building, away from any other cars. He intentionally parked it away so that no one had the opportunity to damage the precious exterior.
The location was perfect, but Dany feared that it was still too close to the building. She pulled out her set of keys and moved the truck by where the dumpsters were located, just across the parking lot. The seclusion and obscurity of the location wad perfect and she knew she wouldn’t have to worry about any prying eyes or ears.
It then that she began to take her revenge.
Every ounce of her feelings had gone into every blow, smash, and slash that she gave to his precious Ghost. She wanted him to feel the pain that he had caused her. She wanted him to feel his heart rip out of his chest, just like hers did. She went on for what seemed like hours; caught in a rage that she couldn’t escape.
After her rage had subsided, she inspected her work and gave a wicked smile. She took the slugger still in her hands and took one finale blow to the windshield, shattering it beyond repair. With a satisfied sigh, she began to walk towards the bar.
She hadn’t planned on actually entering the bar, but the thought of the look on Jon’s face when he saw her and his truck was too good to pass up. She sat herself on a stool and motioned for the bar tender to meet her.
“What can I get you?” he asked.
“Whiskey, dry.” She stated.
The bar tender nodded and filled a small glass with the copper substance.
She racked her eyes through the crowded bar until her gaze fell on her husband behind the red-headed woman with a pool stick, no doubt showing her how to shoot some sort of combo. She gave a crude laugh, remembering that he had used that same move on her when they first met.
He was completely oblivious to her; too preoccupied with the ginger in the leather dress to notice. Thirty minutes had passed and Dany sat there staring at the couple. She was enthralled at the way he interacted with her. His flirtatious manner and his easy go lucky laugh. Everything about him dripped ego and Dany couldn’t stand it much longer. She was about to go over that shove that damned pool stick up his ass, when a tall scraggy lad with long hair and a nametag spelling “Ed” walked in yelling, “Oi! Some poor bastard’s truck just got hammered. I think it’s a Ghost Edition, parked by the dumpsters.”
Dany could see Jon’s eyes widen in fear. He ran out the bar completely unaware of Dany’s presence. She gulped the remaining whiskey and followed him out, not wanting to miss his reaction. Jon’s cries could be heard across the parking lot. It was a mixture of frustration, anger, and sadness. Dany couldn’t help but laugh that the stupidity.
“You like my artwork? I think I did a pretty good job, don’t you agree?” She said as she came up behind him.
Jon jumped in surprise and turned to face his wife, his grey eye meeting her intense violet ones.
“Dany? You did this? Why in the seven hells would you do this? What are even doing here?” He was stumbling over his words, the nerves ever present. He was trying to make the pieces of the very large complicated puzzle fit into a space that was not meant for it.
“Don’t play dumb, Jon. We both know what going on.” Dany spat.
Jon’s face went pale, “Dany I-I…please let me explain.”
He went towards her to grab her hands into his, but she swiftly moved away.
“Don’t touch me! Don’t ever touch me again!”
“Dany, I-” Jon tried to speak, but Dany was faster.
“No! Don’t try to talk yourself out of this one, Jon! You fucked up when you decided to enjoy the company of woman that was not your wife. You must think me dumb. Tell me, was her cunt better than mine? Is that why you cheated? Or maybe it was because I couldn’t give you what you want. A family!” The tears were now streaming down her face and she was powerless to stop it.
“Dany, I’m sorry. But even you have to admit that our relationship isn’t what it used to be. I should have talked to you about it instead of going behind your back. But I mean, Gods, Dany! You didn’t could have talked to me about it too! You didn’t have to ruin my truck! My truck Dany!” Jon’s voice cracked every time he mentioned the truck behind him.
Dany was furious. She was bearing her heart and emotions to him and the only thing he could think about was the piece of junk behind him. She could feel the heat of her anger rise in her. It was like a dragon readying itself to blow its flames. She was going to burst at any moment, that is, until a voice from behind her broke her rage.
“What is going on? Jon, who is this?”
Dany turned to face the red headed Ygritte.
“Who am I!? I am his fucking wife!” She yelled in her face. She didn’t mean to yell at the girl, but she could no longer control the dragon inside of her. She noticed Ygritte’s eyes widen. It was look of shock and confusion.
“Wife!? You have a wife!? You told me she died in car crash!” Ygritte was now yelling at Jon.
Dany was now the one with confusion written on her face. She truly believed that this woman knew about Dany, she never expected to Jon to lie to both of them.
“Grittes, I can explain.” Jon stuttered.
Ygritte stalked towards Jon and punched him square in the jaw.
“I don’t want your explanation, you crow!” She spat at him as he clutched his face. She turned towards Dany and gave her the most apologetic look she had ever seen.
“I’m sorry, I truly didn’t know.”
Dany’s face burst into a wide grin. She gave one last look at her cheating husband and shrugged, “It’s okay, I guess I saved you the trouble. Want to grab a drink?”
Ygritte smiled, “That would be great.”
The two women left the blubbering man groveling on the ground and made their way to the bar.

Just imagine. Creepyfinger, hidden in the shadows, watching Sansa from afar like the psycho he is and then suddenly, we hear a growl. And there is Ghost, baring his fangs, ready to pounce on the asshole and eat him alive. After all, didn't Jon warn him that if he tried to touch Sansa he would kill him? To bad he didn't listen... XD
[cont…  Also you ship bellarke ? And gendrya? And finrey ? AND you’re a dc stan? Where have you been all my lifz?! XD following you right now!]
ALL I WANT IS FOR GHOST TO BE SEEN FOLLOWING SANSA AROUND AND PROTECTING HER FROM CREEPYFINGER.
That is the stuff of beautiful fanfiction. But seriously, it would be so sweet to see that happen for real. I mean where the hell is Ghost anyway? We know he’s probably in Winterfell? Because he was with Jon last we saw him and apparently there was a cut scene of Jon and Ghost from last episode. I hope he’s with Sansa. It would be so telling.
Also omg yes!! Bellarke is my second most painful OTP to ship after Jonsa because honestly, can these idiots ever just get their act together and kiss? I have more hope that Finnrey will be smarter about their feelings. At least I hope haha.
I’m both DC and Marvel, but more MCU than DCEU. In my opinion, the only good DC movie thus far is Wonder Woman, whereas MCU has a couple. And their Netflix shows are amazing. But with that said, Wonder Woman easily beats out everything MCU has made except for Guardians of the Galaxy. They’re on par. Or well actually, I don’t know I can’t decide… Guardians is so funny and has the greatest ensemble cast. But Wonder Woman is so beautiful and wonderful. I love both so much T_T
But I’m rambling haha sorry. You probably didn’t need to know all that.
Thank you for following though!!! Please feel free to talk to me about any of the above!

Reasons to be Hopeful for Gendrya season 8:
“I have a son. You have a daughter. We’ll join our houses.”
They have tried to marry a Stark girl with a Baratheon twice now. Robert and Lyanna. Joffrey and Sansa. Third time’s the charm!
Robert and Lyanna are a lot like Gendry and Arya, both in looks and some of their major personality traits.   And we see they have similar relationships to Ned and Jon respectively. See how much Robert and Ned’s first scene parallels Gendry and Jon’s meeting- these first serious and solemn-looking exchanges end in smiles and good natured ribbing. Jon and Arya are especially close, just like Ned and Lyanna were. Also, Lyanna’s introduction— showing off her horseback riding in front of her brothers— feels similar to Arya shooting an arrow into Bran’s target in the pilot episode.  But Robert and Lyanna didn’t know each other very well, unlike Arya and Gendry who were friends and companions for a long time. Not to mention that Gendry and Arya are much better people than Robert and Lyanna. Gendry is not a drunken philanderer and Arya isn’t as thoughtless (and selfish?) as Lyanna.
Compare Arya’s first meeting with Hot Pie in season 1 to their final goodbye in season 7. In season 1, they met just after Arya lost her family. She was already devastated when Hot Pie insulted her and tried to intimidate her. Arya threatened him and it was one of the first times we see the depths of her fierceness. In season 7, Arya finds Hot Pie just after she avenged her family. She’s already feeling pretty happy(ish) when Hot Pie tells her that Jon has Winterfell, that she’s pretty and calls her his friend. It is the first time in awhile we see her heart and emotions absolutely unguarded.  Hot Pie and Arya’s reunion highlights how he went from her bully to her friend, from kicking her while she was already down to giving her the best news she had heard in years when she was as happy as she ever expected to be again. So Arya and Gendry reuniting ought to show us how much their relationship has changed too; from friends to something more.
So far, very few reunion scenes have featured both characters being taken by surprise. Sansa went looking for Jon. Bran knew when he’d see his siblings. Arya probably hoped to see Hot Pie at that inn. Davos tracked down Gendry. The guards told Arya that Sansa was at Winterfell and they told Sansa that Arya was there. Arya learned from Sansa that Bran was home. Jon knows that Bran and Arya are at Winterfell. Sandor knows that Arya survived. So I think it’s very interesting that at this point, both Arya and Gendry are completely unaware that the other is still alive. I think it’s intentional so that it can be one of the few reunions where it’s a complete surprise to both of them.
Just generally speaking, they were as heavy-handed with shippiness as they could get away with in seasons 1- 3 considering the age difference. They had a hard line to walk between “planting the seeds” of a future relationship and not making Gendry look creepy and I think they handled well:
Their first meeting is a classic “meet cute,” especially among kids and/or in adventure stories, where A defends B from danger or harassment.
Gendry realized Arya was a girl pretty quickly or maybe even immediately. In the books, it’s only after their little group is on their own for awhile that he notices she goes far away to pee. I know a factor might be simplifying things because of time constraints. But I think it’s worth noting that in these situations, the love interest will often see through the disguise. It also gets bonus points because even with long hair, Arya had been frequently mistaken for a boy.
“As my lady commands” can be seen as having a similar vibe as Robb and Theon laughing hysterically after Arya throws some food at Sansa. But it definitely can be seen a flirting-- if in a “kids in the school yard” kind of way.
She ogles him blatantly while he is shirtless. Growing up with lots of brothers and their friends and swimming with them and stuff.... it’s not like male anatomy is a mystery to her. It’s basically a big flashing sign telling the audience that Arya does not see Gendry as some kind of big brother replacement.
When they leave Harrenhal, it’s clear that Gendry doesn’t think it’s safe to do so. But Arya goes and he follows rather quickly. Either he really trusts her judgement or he’s willing to die with her.
We often see them exchanging meaningful looks and/or practically reading each other’s minds. When they hear that lady talk about how they’re all slowly being tortured and killed in Harrenhal. When the Mountain picks Gendry to be rat food. How Gendry checks with her before he tells Thoros the blacksmith he used to train with. When they say goodbye to Hot Pie and he gives them that misshapen wolf bread. Or when Arya tries to stab the Hound, Gendry stops her when the rest of the Brotherhood is still dumbstruck. I almost always only see that kind of non-verbal communication in characters that are siblings (twins more specifically) or a couple.
They get a pretty long one-on-one farewell. This show is not big on goodbye scenes. Most are off screen and if not, tend to be rather brief and the characters have to have a stiff upper lip because there are other people around or because they can’t/won’t open up. But the scene where Gendry tells Arya that he wants to stay with the Brotherhood is very emotional and both of them get a bit teary-eyed. It’s not their literal goodbye scene, but it figuratively is. The audience learns that they will soon be parting ways and it is the last time they really speak to each other on screen. Obviously, since their actual separation would be caused by Mel dragging him away, they wouldn’t get an actual, proper goodbye. I think the writers really wanted to show the audience that these two care about each other a lot and would miss each other terribly.
The only other goodbyes I can think of that matches the intensity, music, and dialogue of this scene are Dany saying goodbye to Jorah and Bran saying goodbye to Rickon and Osha. Jorah declares his love and Dany cries tells him that he has to get better because she needs him. And those two were one of the longest running relationships on the show and a popular BroTP/OTP for six seasons. Bran and Rickon, of course, were the last Stark siblings to separate and Osha had been Bran’s last proper guardian figure.
And of course there’s “You wouldn’t be my family. You’d be m’lady.” Yes, this is mainly Gendry highlighting the differences in their stations. But... I do think the use of “m’lady” was deliberate as hell. “M’lady” is loaded with romantic connotations and has long been associated with dashing knights in love with noble maidens fair. Even today, there’s a stereotype of cringe-y guys trying too hard to get girls to swoon by calling them “m’lady.” Heck, even Joffrey trying to woo Sansa made a big deal about calling her “my lady” every time he spoke to her or about her.  Not to mention, seeing as Arya was Robb’s sister, wouldn’t it have been more likely she’d have to be referred to as “Princess”?  So you can accuse me of shipper goggles, but I don’t think it was a coincidence that a sentence that’s supposed to mean “I won’t be part of your family because I’m a dirty peasant” could also easily be interpreted as “I won’t be like a brother to you, you’ll be my wife.”
Also, we already know that Arya does not have sisterly feelings towards Gendry. So her offering to be his family is especially selfless and sweet. Hey, while I’m being trash, I’d like to point out that family can mean brother and sister and it can also refer to a married couple. Maybe this is foreshadowing that Arya is the one to propose. Heh.
Finally, Arya is not going to be happy staying in Winterfell for the rest of her life. We learn in season 6 that Arya wants to travel the world and see what’s west of Westeros. In season 7, we see that Nymeria has formed her own pack and is forging her own, unconventional path. Clearly, Arya is heading to a similar lifestyle. She is not a lone wolf, however, and she’s going to want someone to go with her. Jon, Sansa, and Bran couldn’t accompany her even if they wanted to. Hot Pie is happy where he is. Sandor is probably going to be 100% done with road trips. If Brienne isn’t too busy with Jaime (let me have my delusions dreams), she’ll probably feel more obligated to stay with Sansa. That pretty much leaves Gendry. And if you recall how quickly he dropped everything to go off with Davos, he has no reason to hang around, either
Bonus shipper trash reason-- the story technically kinda starts with Lyanna dumping Robert and eloping with Ragdoll Tergiversation so it’s only fitting that it ends with Lyanna’s niece eloping with Robert’s son. :)

also gendrya detention au
After the third wad of paper that hits her head, Gendrya finally sighs and turns around.
“What is your problem?” he asks the girl behind, who’s smirking, feet up on the desk. He’s resigned, at this point, considering they’re in detention and she’d refused to speak to him.
Until now, apparently. “You.”
Gendry rolls his eyes. “I’m sorry my sitting here staring at a wall offends you.” He turns back around, arms crossed, sunk into his seat.
Silence returns again. The teacher on duty continues to ignore them, face deep in his phone. He doesn’t even look up when Gendry hears the scratch of a chair and Arya sit down right behind him.
“I’m sorry,” she says, quieter, probably leaning as far as she can on the desk so he can hear her. Gendry doesn’t turn around. “I didn’t want you to get into trouble too.”
Gendry says nothing, eyes firmly locked onto the post about the water cycle.
“Why did you have to ask me out?”
Gendry closes his eyes at that, his heart cracking.
But Arya continues, hissing whispers that break between breaths. “We were doing so good - you’re my best friend, other than Jon, but Jon’s related to me so he has to like me. We have so much fun. And you ruined it! You ruined it because yeah I know you’re attractive and shit and believe me, I’ve thought about it but that’s not the point you’re my friend and I’ve seen Sansa ruin her friendship with Theon and I don’t want that to happen to us and we started dating I know it wouldn’t work - ”
“Arya,” says Gendry, turning to face her. She’s closer than he thought and he hesitates for a moment, because her lips are right there. But he forces himself to look into her eyes. “You don’t know it wouldn’t work.”
“But I do,” she says. “That’s not me. Romance or dates or any of that shit.” She shakes her head. “I’m going to leave you and I don’t want to hurt you.”
Gendry waits a moment; she’s scared, he understands that, and her eyes are for once glossy and see-through. Usually she’s so tough - but right then, Gendry sees glass, not stone.
“Okay.” He says. “Let’s just be friends then.” He tilts his head. “Just promise me - when you’re ready to leave, to run away - you’ll let me know?”
Arya blinks. “You won’t beg to come with me?”
“I will, probably.” Gendry shrugs. “But if you say no, then I’ll respect that.”
When Arya doesn’t answer, not right away, Gendry turns back to the front. He can practically hear the gears in her head, calculating and thinking and processing.
Eventually, a soft whisper: “Okay.”
Gendry grins at the poster.

B D O & P for the fic asks!
THANKS, NONNY! :)
B: Any of your stories inspired by personal experience?
There’s always *some* aspect of fic that is inspired by something I’ve dealt with in my life OR something I’ve watched a friend deal with. The aspects of CFDD that deal with Arya being the daughter of a politician and the game she has to play because of that is very much inspired by my own experiences as the daughter of someone in the political sphere. King’s Landing in CFDD is an amalgamation of some of my favorite cities. Kingswood, featured in the last chapter is based off of one of my favorite small towns in upstate New York.
There are some major themes in my next fic that are inspired by things I’ve gone through. That being said, don’t look too far into it. The situations may be similar but the reactions and therefore the way the plot progresses is completely organic.
D: Is there a song or a playlist to associate with [insert fic]?
NEARLY THE ENTIRE DERMOT KENNEDY DISCOGRAPHY GIVES ME GENDRYA FEELS BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY HIS NEW ALBUM GIVES ME SO MANY CFDD FEELS! I mean...Outnumbered IS gendrya in CFDD. What Have I Done? is another one that is *so them*. But all of the songs are the epitome of Gendry’s thoughts on Arya and no one can tell me otherwise.
...Also some random Taylor Swift songs that speak to my gendrya soul.
O: How do you begin a story–with the plot, or the characters?
PLOT. Obviously. Because it’s fic and the characters are a given...though it could be argued that the plot is based on my OTP being in a situation and how they’d react to that. Almost always my plots are a direct result of something that has pissed me off. Usually a plot device that a show-runner butchered terribly. Beautiful Collisions (for my OG DA followers) was a response to Fellowes completely dropping the ball on the Robert cheating storyline. Exhale was a response to the obviously disastrous GOT finale but specifically how that finale a) disregarded the clear trauma these characters had all gone through and b) disregarded relationships that had been built up over seasons and would ultimately be the things that gave the characters strength to get through all of the residual bullshit. My next fic plays with the idea that a) Arya would never leave her family indefinitely unless she was truly seeking something she was passionate about (aka what absolutely did not happen in the finale...that was just some tomfoolery and an overall insult to our intelligence...emotionally and otherwise) and b) what would Gendry do when she returns? And then I took those ideas and made them modern au. So yeah, plot is important.
P: Are you what George R. R. Martin would call an “architect” or a “gardener”? (How much do you plan in advance, versus letting the story unfold as you go?)
ARCHITECT. Writers that don’t plan MYSTIFY AND TERRIFY ME. And, in my opinion, it usually shows.
I said what I said.
