Man I'm just chillin after classes and then I got fucking mollywhopped by my own brain out of the blue. My brain wandered over to "man I miss heisenberg" and I was like "haha remember when the Duke said he could feel his essence rip"
Tumblr media
Which led to. "It really is a shame we couldn't team up with him. I was hoping we'd get that team up DLC, but instead the DLC is about Rose, and the main villain is the Du..."
And that's the moment I got fucking mollywhopped, got obliterated, got punted into the sun. The Duke is the main villain of the DLC. But who did we also sell all of the lord's remains to? The DUKE. And *why* did he want them in the first place??
Not to mention these lines (about Rose):
Tumblr media
WHICH SHOULD GO TO SAY THAT THE SAME IMPLIES FOR THE ESSENCES IN THE LORDS' REMAINS... *AND* ETHAN'S!!!

so the resident evil animated movies are Not Good and Death Island was no exception. tbh in some ways the plot was worse than several of the others because frankly the villain actually has a legitimate grievance but just decided to kill a bunch of people about it instead of having any sort of interesting morality or backstory. however this movie DOES have:
leon s. kennedy being beat up and thrown around in multiple different scenes
jill fucking up a big nasty meat man with her plasma gun
chris wearing a silly little hawaiian shirt (that gets ripped off him during the first fight)
the redfield siblings! interacting for like the second time in the entire franchise! they didn't do anything interesting together but they were both there!
jill and leon meeting for the actual first time in the entire franchise (i think) and they even get to do some cool stuff!
that one cool scene from the trailer when they all jump over a tentacle
and i mean. i can't be mad about all that tbh

Tbh!!! I don't understand the inherent strong hatred for DMC2!!! Everyone who worked on it did the best they could after they kicked Kamiya off and Itsuno did his best to fix everything up as well as he could! Especially considering the game was made by people who never created a console game before, and had only made arcade games. With all of the stuff that went on in the background, and having the previous director who HATED Dante's character try to change so much, they honestly did the best they could to make an enjoyable game that still resembled Dante. For everything that went on, it's not NEARLY as bad as it could have been. Is it the best? No. But I definitely wouldn't call it the worst. Considering everything, I think it turned out okay.
Yeah exactly!! I'm not trying to say it's a great game, I'm just saying it's still a pretty enjoyable game and it's not as bad as people say it is.
Everyone only says that bc they only went through the combat with just their guns. The combat IS clunky, yes, but it's playable. I actually uncovered some cool combat mechanics yesterday that wasn't documented in the game as far as I know, it's clear that the people who did work on the game wanted to make something cool, but they just weren't given enough time and leadership (?) to make it good.
It's fine if people think dmc2 is boring and uninteresting, not everyone has the same patience as i do to sit through an unpolished game just because they like the main character, I get that, but I just wish people actually gave it a chance or even just respected the game for what it is.

i feel few people talk about the tragedy of leon and ada (of course some people have talked it about, but you know what i mean). in the original, they are just attractive people who fuck and nothing more and nothing less. however in the remake, we are finally seeing little details of what they represent in a sense.
i'm going to explain them as strangers and not star-crossed lovers.
i love how ada sees raccoon city as a semi positive thing, she managed to get 'better' while leon sees it as the reason why he is fucked up. ada is mostly represented by butterflies (her chinese dress) which mean rebirth and leon's normal clothes has a moth which also represents it. however, the insects have one slight issue: leon's can represent death and to trust yourself.
leon had to trust his gut with luis and with ashley when ada didn't need it.
moths are known to chase the light and butterflies are known to chase out the competition. ada is the obviously beautiful butterfly who is begging the moth to chase her, but leon doesn't see light in her. in leon's eyes ada is unnecessary chaos despite her not being as bad he thinks.
ada has been wanting to show leon she isn't bad but with every thing she does- leon sees it ada using him. that's his current gut feeling about her. that's his intuition to believe so because guess what. they don't know each other. they are only connected by one night.
and when she gave him the option to go away with her, he denied it because she forgot as well that he is just an illusion in her mind. he isn't just the adorable rookie she used, he had feelings ada forgot he had. he had his own thoughts of what happened in raccoon city.
because even ada cares more about luis's thoughts than leon's. when he said he wanted to make the cure, she groans and does it (sure it could be seen as her wanting the cure but you know what i mean)
i don't know what capcom will do to these characters in re6 remake, but for now: they don't know each other, leon has denied ada two times and ada hasn't care enough of his feelings, he is like a toy to her.

Tumblr media
after my previous reblog, i feel compelled to write a "short" post (love letter) about (to) this game
so for those of you who haven't played it, or never even heard of it, professor layton vs phoenix wright: ace attorney is a crossover game between the two franchises (you'll have guessed it from the title) and it is PAINFULLY underrated :,) (i also hear that it is now hard to get physical copies of this game at a decent price so i'm glad i kept mine)
essentially used to be my favourite game of all time before it got dethroned by the resident evil 4 remake (but i will forever remember it fondly). i remember my parents gifted it to me for easter back in 2014 (so i was around 12 back then) and i don't think they realised how much this would change me. like this is one of the reasons why i started thinking about studying law later LMAOO.
essentially layton and phoenix both end up helping this young girl, espella (i played it in french back then and her name is aria so their english names are a struggle for me) who is being hunted by witches and then put on trial in london for the assault of a ship's crew member. then the wildest thing happens and they get sucked into a book and are sent back to medieval times. yes it sounds insane. but in this small town called labyrinthia, witches are real, and so are witch trials (DOESN'T IT SOUND COOL AS FUCK??).
they've all forgotten who they are, though. phoenix doesn't remember being an attorney and layton doesn't remember anything either. they find espella again, and she's put on trial AGAIN, for witchcraft this time. the game alternates between the usual layton riddles and ace attorney's investigation/trial phases. the odds are high this time around, because those found guilty of witchcraft are shoved into a metal cage and plunged into a pit of fire. they're not messing around.
of course, it wouldn't be layton or ace attorney without a massive plot twist at the end. i'd argue this one is probably the most insane out of all layton games (it's even a bit far fetched tbh, but just saying, you do not see it coming) (okay it's even full of plot holes and i haven't revisited the ending in years but if i did, i think it would be detrimental to my mental health).
the art style is amazing - i'm in love with the later ace attorney art styles, starting from dual destinies and this game, and particularly the latest great ace attorney chronicles. here are a few of my favourite character designs from the game:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
but overall, one of the best things about the game has to be the soundtrack. it is the perfect mix of both franchises' music and it is a CRIME that neither level 5 nor capcom have released this on spotify (capcom i know you have all other AA soundtracks on this app. add this one. i am begging you). if you've never played an ace attorney game before, then you do not know the sheer adrenaline of phoenix shouting OBJECTION and the music speeding up. here's one of my favourite tracks:
youtube
tell me this doesn't make you immediately want to confess to 47 crimes you haven't committed.
it's kind of the perfect crossover game if you're into the genre, it's perfectly balanced between riddles and trials. the stakes are also a lot higher and there's actual executions. maybe i shouldn't have played this at the age of 12 actually - at some point (spoilers ahead), maya is wrongly executed and the scene will forever haunt me for some reason:
youtube
(go to 18:06 if the youtube timestamp doesn't work) i chose the french version of the cutscene because it's the one i played back then and i find that the french dub is a lot more compelling than the english one (somehow? the french haven't produced a good dub in decades so). also maya's screams are downright heartbreaking and the scene was traumatising asf when i was a kid
ANYWAY. please play this game, it's so much fun. for the AA enthusiasts, there's an edgeworth cameo at the very end. i very much fear that this game will be forgotten eventually, but it warms my heart to see that there are still people talking about it on the internet.

Imagine Meeting DMC 2 Dante
So, I finally got around to playing DMC 2 and Dante is so much more stoic in that game than he is in any of the others. He doesn't talk much and is just a very serious lad compared to the other games where he is the wacky woohoo pizza man.
Capcom trying to make him this way didn't hit too much and I'm sure the rest of the fandom can agree from what I've seen from other reviews.
This isn't where this post is getting at tho.
Seeing Dante more like Vergil in this game had me thinking.
What if this is the Dante you met?
Imagine having baby Nero, walking around Redgrave, and seeing the white-haired man. He's in red so you know it's not the man you met a few years back but maybe he's at least related. It couldn't hurt to check, right?
So you walk up to him and he doesn't say anything but he does notice Nero. And Dante immediately thinks that the boy is his. And he's confused and a little scared. He wasn't made to be a father, especially not with the life he lives.
So he tries to let you down easily and leave the situation as soon as possible. He tries until you say, "I watched you go the first time, I can't let you go again. Please, even if you aren't him, I need someone related to him. Nero needs his family and I'm the only one."
And Dante realizes you are Vergil's mate and this was Vergil's offspring, Dante's kin. And a protectiveness washes over him and he instantly feels the need to protect you, the boy, and kick Vergil's ass the next time he sees him, no matter the man's condition.
So with a few words, Dante takes you back to the DMC building and gives you one of the upstairs spare rooms, and helps you take care of Nero. He tells you about Vergil and their family and in turn, you tell Dante about how you and Vergil met and about his new nephew.
He helps you raise the boy as he becomes the moody, sarcastic hotheaded teen we see in DMC 4. And at some point Nero does ask about his father and you both tell him and he still hates Vergil just as much as he does in DMC 5.
And seeing Dante become this light-hearted, wacky man over the years kind of helps soothe you and you could see yourself living the rest of your life helping Dante with his business, even if it's just as his financial advisor.
And when Dante and Nero go on their mission in DMC 5 and Dante finds out it's his brother behind all this, that battle at the top of the Qliphoth is much more heated and Vergil can tell this is something more than just getting back at his brother for opening a portal to hell and trying to become the ruler.
So when they're walking through hell, Vergil has to ask. "I know there is more to this than our old rivalry."
Dante hums. "Yeah, it is."
"Enlighten me then brother." "Nero, he's yours." "I thought we established that already?"
Dante chuckles. "Yeah but not about his mother."
Vergil looks at his brother curiously. "Is she alive?" "Very much so. She's been staying with me since we were 30. She came to me on the streets, begging me to stay thinking I was you. She's quite the woman, Vergil, I can't believe you let her go."
Vergil hums, nodding.
You will always be grateful for Dante letting you in and helping you out. And Dante will always feel like he's in debt to you even if it should be the other way around. Because you are his family, and he will do anything and everything to make sure you never end up like the lost woman who came begging for his love and approval all those years ago.
