Uncharismatic Fact of the Day
A bee's work never stops-- in the case of the slender-scaped carpenter bee, it can literally go on all night! This species has been observed pollinating a flowering tree--Heterophragma quadriloculare-- that open opens its flowers at night; the relationship between bee and tree is exclusive, meaning that the slender-scaped carpenter bee is the primary pollinator of these trees.

Bzzz!
Just some bees in my garden and in the fields and on a neighbourhood walk. :)
Featured bees include bumblebees (native), green sweatbees (native), honeybees (invasive), carpenter bees (native), and some I'm not sure about.
Featured flower hosts include bull thistles (invasive weed), rose of sharon (invasive), New England aster (native), cup plant (native), starthistle (not native), Nuttall's sunflower (native), purple coneflower (native), anise hyssop (native), white wood aster (native), swamp milkweed (native), sow thistle (invasive weed), creeping charlie (invasive), creeping thistle (invasive weed), wild rose (native maybe), wild bergamot (native), bride's feathers (native), bigleaf lupin (native maybe or invasive), and upright prairie coneflower "Mexican hat" (native species, but a cultivar).
All my photos, unedited. Don't mind the weirdness of the third last photo. It's my phone's "portrait" which I found out belatedly can have, uh, interesting results.

I love carpenter bees. They're just such curious little dudes. They fly up to you and just chill for a minute looking at look you, like "woah, look at this animal. What's it doing over here??" Curiosity is just such a beautiful trait for bees to possess. Like, yes I will stay still, my buzzy friend, so you fulfill your curiosity. Thank you for taking an interest in me <3

This as our beautiful wisteria (japanese I think so Wisteria floribunda) what grows on our shelter, it is one of my favourite plants in the garden and is currently blooming and filled with carpenter bees (aka big bastard bees) that I don't think I've really seen before, and I will be posting photos the wisteria all year round and what it looks like inside the shelter because that's amazing too
the afore mentioned big bastard bees
