So, idk if many people on tumblr care about chess much, but I was studying some openings today and I found a very funny trap.
This is for the Ponziani Opening, so you already know some hijinks are going to be afoot, and specifically, this is for the Jaenisch Counterattack. Obviously I can't have pictures for every position, but I'll put them in for the ones that matter.
It goes as follows:
1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.c3 Nf6 4.d4 Nxe4 5.d5 Ne7 6.Nxe5 (pictured below)
Tumblr media
Now, if you're a fan of the Ponziani, you know that 6...d6 is a losing move because of the brilliant 7.Bb5+ and the gobbling up of pawns and eventual loss of the knight on e5 by Black. But, what I'm going to show you stems from the slightly better move 6...c6. The idea, in short, is going to be to use the light-squared bishop to defend d5, trade it off for a knight, and then enter a position where you're down material but still have a winning chance.
6...c6 7.Bc4 Nd6 8.O-O Nxc4 9.Nxc4
Tumblr media
Now, as you can see, Black has two different attackers on the pawn on d5. If Black plays, 9...Nxd5, then you don't get to do the trap, but you can play
10.Re1+ Be7 11.Nd6+ Kf8 12.c4 Bxd6 13.cxd5 cxd5 14.Qxd5
and now you have taken away Black's ability to castle, and even though you're down a pawn, you have the open e-file, your bishop has a short diagonal, your knight is ready to leap into action, and Black's kind of just sitting on their hands in terms of development.
Tumblr media
But, here's the hysterical part. Remember when I said Black had two things attacking d5 all the way back on turn 9? If they chose to not play 9...Nxd5, then this happens.
9...cxd5?? 10.Nd6#!
Tumblr media
Isn't that the silliest thing you've ever seen? The king is about to die surrounded by loved ones and family. You are untouchable and unstoppable. You're about to do an Agent 47 maneuver and assassinate the one guy surrounded by a swarm of body guards. It's beautiful.

This is the endgame of the chess game played by Hamilton and Tallmadge in the newest chapter of my spin on the redcoat hamilton madness that’s overtaken amrev rn, called “Murder, Lying, Glory, & Other Sins” in which a spy named Mr. Malcolm uses Lt. Col. John Laurens to get close with the rebels from the inside.
Do you know how to win as white in this position?  White to move, and black just moved pawn to g3.

Here's a variation on one of my favourite tactical traps where the queen hammers an unaware opponent.
What happens if White takes the pawn with their knight?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
White pushes the e pawn to fork the bishop and knight. Of course, you might just take the pawn but then this happens...
Tumblr media
Queen to a5 check! Now White is forced to defend their king and is completely unable to stop Black taking the bishop on the next move.
This type of trap is one all 1.d4 players should keep an eye out for, especially if your opponent is someone like me who likes an Indian set up with a pawn on e6 and an early push of the c pawn - those moves make the queen extremely mobile. In the game above, my opponent was (I think) trying to get into a London system. I think they were so focused on where they were going they forgot to really look at the board in the right now.

Did you know?
The oldest document of the existence of chess in an European text is found in the will of the Count Ermengol I of Urgell (Catalonia), written in the year 1008.
In his will, the count specified that he left his chess pieces to the Abbey of Saint Gilles in Provence, which back then was politically Catalan territory.
Some years later, in 1058, chess would be mentioned again in the will of Ermessenda de Carcassona, the Countess of Barcelona.
As a homage to Europe’s oldest witness of chess, the Polish chess Grandmaster Savielly Tartakower opened the chess tournament of the 1929 International Exposition (held in Barcelona, Catalonia’s capital city) with his creation called the Catalan Opening.

The Game of Chess
Tumblr media
Hey guys!!
This week we'll be talking about Chess!
A game as old as Islam.
Recently, my school held a Chess Tournament, and I found many tips and tricks. I came across so much impressive new information about Chess.
Today I'll display my favourite openings, defences and a few facts. Let's begin!
First up, "The 4-move Checkmate"!
The 4-move checkmate was a pretty impressive new trick I learned. The 4-move checkmate only works if you are white (from what I have learned).
Tumblr media
Alright, so this is your chess board.
We're gonna start the 4-move checkmate by opening your pawn to e4. White now controls the centre line and opens a way for the Queen and the f1 Bishop.
Now, typically black responds with pawn to e5.
Regardless, white should move the Bishop to c4 (unless black moved a threatening piece earlier). You do this by pointing to the f7 square.
Black usually moves their knight to c6. Sometimes, they will, however, play Bishop to c5.
In either case, white should move their Queen to h5 to assist the bishop and control square f7. Most times, knight f6 is played to threaten the Queen.
The Queen must go where it was initially planning to, f7, delivering a Checkmate.
Since the square is controlled by white, the king can not kill the Queen as the Bishop prevents him from doing so.
Now imagine if black could have avoided this situation.
The best way black could have prevented this tragic ending was after the Queen moved to H5. Black should have moved pawn g6, blocking the Queen.
This video explains the concept above better!
Defences -
From my research, the best two defences I found were the Caro-Kann defence and the Sicilian Defence.I can't really explain them, so I'll link the videos I used. How to CRUSH with the Caro-Kann! Learn the Caro-Kann Defense | 10-Minute Chess Openings The Sicilian Defense | 10-Minute Chess Openings
Gotham chess was by far the best at teaching Chess.
Openings
The opening I liked best was the London system. The video I used - How to WIN with the London System!
Trivia-
Listed below are a few facts I learned during my research.
There are 64 squares on a chessboard. This does not include the board itself.
William Steinitz was the world's first official Chess World Champion. His reign was from 1886-1894.
Deep Blue was the first computer to beat a Chess World Champion.
The longest chess game possible is 5,949 moves.
There are over 1000 different openings, including variations within larger openings/defences that can be learned.
Well, that's all for now. I hope you enjoyed this article.
Have fun playing this quiz I made: https://quizizz.com/admin/quiz/63898f2dff33c8001d2c4ff7?source=quiz_share
Au revoir!
See you next week!

The Best Chess Openings Regarding Beginners
The first very few moves of a new chess game can easily be some regarding the most significant moves you make. In those movements, you can establish the early plans and even fight for your spot on the board. Most beginners don` t need in order to memorize exact opening moves and may instead focus on great opening principles just like controlling the centre and developing the pieces. However, that is helpful to recognize some openings while they can get common, and they will do help reinforce good plans. Although don`t turn into too reliant on memorization or you may soon find yourself feeling lost. The Italian Game Typically the Italian game starts with 1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. Bc4. The thing is to command the center rapidly with your pawn and knight in addition to then put your current bishop on its most dangerous pillow. You are furthermore getting ready to castle in order to safety. The Sicilian Security
Tumblr media
The Sicilian Defense is typically the most popular range of aggressive players together with the black pieces. Often White will enjoy second . Nf3 and even 3. d4 which will gain core space, but it really permits Black to benefit by simply exchanging a main pawn to get a bishop's pawn. French Protection The French Defense is one associated with the first strategic openings every chess player should find out. After e5 (now or later), both sides will have pawn chains. https://chess-openings.club of french Defense is that the particular c8-bishop can be very hard to be able to develop. The Ruy-Lopez The Ruy Lopez is one of the oldest plus most classic associated with all openings. It truly is named after the Spanish bishop which wrote one regarding the first guides on chess. The particular Ruy Lopez problems the knight which in turn defends the e5-pawn. White hopes to be able to use this attack to build even more pressure on Black's central pawn. The particular Slav Defense The particular Slav Defense is usually a very sound opening which guards the d5-pawn together with another pawn. The majority of Black's pieces can produce to natural potager, but Black will most likely have a very little less space in addition to will have to discover a good spot for his or her b8-knight.

CHESS OPENINGS
Few topics plot and intimidate novices to chess like the study of alleged Opening theory. We all hear stories regarding Masters who may play 15, thirty, or 30 moves by pure memorization in spite of the quantity of possible 20-move sequences to be able to begin a video game of chess staying in the great! The truth, of course , lies somewhere in the middle. Chess is not a memorization contest, in fact it is true that will one can manage, at least to be able to a certain level, on only a rudimentary understanding associated with chess opening guidelines. Yet there is no-one to deny that a heavy understanding of chess openings and the particular plans linked to every one is the huge advantage at ANY level involving chess. So what is the purpose of learning chess opportunities? And how perform we begin learning them? In mentally stimulating games, it`s very good to have a plan. Everyone knows this. But in several positions, creating a prepare can be quite difficult even with regard to Masters of the particular game. The countless complexity of typically the game of mentally stimulating games has kept that relevant for hundreds of years, fascinating the minds regarding young and outdated alike but generally there` s nothing a whole lot worse compared to the frustration regarding staring blankly from the board inside front of you, not having the clue what in order to do! Whenever we can easily learn a fine plan to carry out from this position, many of us` ll be about our approach to receiving off on the particular right foot throughout every single chess game we ever enjoy. That is why we review chess openings. In case you`re brand new to chess, never fear! Learning the guidelines of chess spaces alone will offer you a huge advantage over the opponents and set you on your way to rising throughout the ranks, without having memorizing an one sequence of movements. If you` empieza mastered these concepts and are ready to begin your journey in a labyrinth of chess opening theory read on. Many of us` ll arrive there soon! Keeping the right away opening principles in your mind will serve you well. Even any time you begin memorizing specific sequences of moves, these principles are still vital to playing typically the opening successfully in case your opponent takes on a move a person` re unfamiliar using, you`re back again by yourself, and these kinds of principles will probably be your heart line! Control central room with your pawns. Controlling space gives your pieces place to maneuver, and denies squares in order to enemy pieces. Citadel early. Once the center leads to, this will be dangerous for your king to be stuck in its starting sq. Castling tucks the king safely apart in a nook, and also permits you to link your rooks best for contesting open documents in the middlegame! Improve your pieces. Each and every player starts each chess game along with eight pieces sitting lazily on their very own own back position. You won` big t win many online games if they stay there too extended. Make pawn goes when needed to control space, but include a feeling of urgency inside getting your pieces into the motion. Don`t shift the same piece twice without a new good reason. Should chess openings for beginners brings all their parts into the game, while you move the same piece over and over, you`re likely to fall behind in piece development. Don` t make unnecessary early queen goes. If you do move your current queen, make sure that she could` t easily be harassed by adversary pieces. There` s a good explanation why knights in addition to bishops are usually designed before the california king check out the particular video below to learn why! Reach while the iron bars is hot! In the event that you flourish in having a large guide in development (especially if you` re castled and the opponent isn`t), you need in order to act quickly or the opponent will get up! Open the middle and start the tactical skirmish along with your fully mobilized army, before your own opponent`s soldiers have left their barracks. Safety very first. None of the particular above principles provide you a certificate to generate unsafe techniques that allow your current opponent to get free material. Thoroughly assess the safety of each move before making it` in chess openings and even in ANY mentally stimulating games position. In case your challenger violates this basic principle, capitalize into it, irregardless of what typically the above principles claim after all, it will be silly to stay away from capturing a no cost enemy queen since you don` to want to shift a similar piece 2 times within the opening!
Tumblr media
Inside light from the guidelines discussed above, that should come as no real surprise that whitened` s two most popular opening moves are, by way of a great margin, 1 ) e4 and one d4? The King` s Pawn Opening and even the Queen` s i9000 Pawn Opening, correspondingly. These moves are generally perfectly in accordance with the guidelines outlined above. They safe white some main space from the particular get-go, and they will each open a path for any bishop to develop. In fact , there are various openings where bright first plays one. e4, then grows his kingside dark night to f3 (2. Nf3), then evolves his light-squared bishop somewhere (whose way was cleared simply by white`s initially move), and after that castles to the kingside on move four the earliest castling possible in some sort of game of mentally stimulating games. Beautiful adherence to be able to classical opening guidelines! Of course, several other moves are completely reasonable for white colored. 1. c4 plus 1. Nf3 and played frequently for example , and there` t certainly nothing opposite with them (the former controls some central space, and the latter grows a piece since move 1! )

Okay the chess opening i (900) do best at seems to be a modified Cow:
e3
d3 (interchangeable ^^)
Nd2
Be2
Ngf3
O-O
This lopsided cow allows for quick castling and decent attacks in the center. The queen's bishop is a bit buried but one possible continuation (if the opponent tries to go for a center game) is to push the c-pawn two squares - if they have a bishop on c5 attacking it with the knight usually pays off.
The one thing to be careful of is the opponent continuing to push center pawns in the midst of this - i don't recommend pre-moving anything besides recaptures, ever. If they do push onto your half simply lock the center and trade off a bishop to open the king side for to castle.
By the way, this works about equally well whether playing as Black or White - simply mirror the moves. you're essentially forcing them to extend more than you anyways so that initial tempo doesn't matter.
Or something idk what im talking about im barely 900 rapid

Commercial AI is amazing
Tumblr media
Yes, I would like to purchase a chess opening. They're like NFTs, unless you payed money for them, you're not actually playing them. You're just moving the pieces in the exact same fashion but it is a completely different thing and doesn't count unless you purchased the opening.
Or maybe it's more like "For just 10€, I'll allow you to play the albin against me!"
