church grim, the black dog. a dog buried alive before corpses make their way into churchyards, redeyed and snarling. winds around graves to protect the (un)dead; zombified best friend and he bites hard. throw him a bone, dig one up, he has dirt in his claws and he's buried under the path with no marked grave to walk the concrete with decaying feet and to snap at wedding confetti. like a bad dog he lashes out hard when frightened.

an ellipsis is a deep breath in and i'll never use one...in any other writing. there, one breath to save for when i'm in that empty coffin clawing at nothing. a gift to myself. and maybe...i feel kind to myself....two for a desperate banshee scream and the chokedout dry sob that comes after. black dog who put his own collar on and follows people to put a lead on it, and nobody looks down except to make sure the kick lands. subsoil gargoyle to bare teeth at all times, catacomb ghosts wonder where the softness went. used to be so gentle, so trusting, such a good dog. i build the crypt with my own hands to bury myself in, and life goes on. truth is nobody is burying me and nobody is closing the lid on my coffin but i feel the dirt on my acidwash gums anyway. mixes with 50proof and i spit corrosion.

ever met a stray dog you just know was so loved before the streets came up from nowhere? felt the ribs under thin skin stretched taut and patches of blood matted into mangy fur? seen the whites of his eyes as he turns full of teeth and a hacking, coarse growl, asthmatic fury?

collarbones cut right open because baby the only time your bones will be visible is of your own sudden volition, feel your ribs and hipbones and spine for comfort and ignore the deficiency rattling in your skull and feeding you migraine after collapsing migraine, minor seizure after potassium IV. there's dirt in your lungs, judas- -solemn -frankie -grimly -arc -what name is it now? its in your lungs and stomach and you dont get to wash it out with cheap vodka anymore. therapy wont dig you out of that frozen churchyard. laying drunk and hiccuping bile in your bed writing selfapologetic bullshit wont crack a hole in your coffin. screaming bloody murder in your sleep whilst your dad locks the fucking sharps away and waking up hoarse and retching wont save you. jackolantern smile full of vomit and halfdigested pills is all you are.
