BOYS OVER FLOWERS (2009, KOREA ADAPTATION)

Ji Hoo has stepped aside. And with the help of F4, Gu Jun-Pyo (LEE MIN-HO) fakes a hospitalization bringing a mournful Guem Jan Di to his side. Until she realizes it's all in jest.

Gu Jun-Pyo begins spending time with Jan Di and her parents and her little brother. Soaking in the way a poor family lives, survives and such. He loving ever minute of it that when his fellow F4 members So Yi Jung (KIM BUM) and Song Woo Bin (KIM JOON) inquire, a smiling Jun-Pyo can only "pity" there misunderstanding of life. So cute.

Yet Jun-Pyo and Jan Di next problem is around the corner as they join Jan Di's friend Chu Ga Eul on a double date with a guy that is scum and invokes Jun-Pyo's ire. And his unwillingness to explain or apologize leads....

Jun-pyo's mother makes a business deal and now Jun-pyo is engaged. Problem is his fiance, Ha Jae-kyung, is very likable. Of course no one has told her Jun-pyo and Jan-di used to date.

Oh, all of a sudden the business is doing better so Jun-pyo can go back to school with his friends?

And now the friends are plotting to get Jun-pyo and Jan-di back together. Yi-jeong and Chu Ga-eul go on a fake date. Which worries Jan-di, because Yi-jeong is a known player. Jan-di drags Jun-pyo along to keep an eye on the date. Which puts them in romantic situations.

Not sure what good it'll do to get them back together. Jun-pyo's mother will just separate them again.

Yup. Now a few episodes later, we're getting more back story for the 3 other members of F4. Trauma, trauma, and more.

Oops, Jae-kyung figured out Jun-pyo is in love with Jan-di, but she doesn't let anyone know she knows. Instead she continues to be a good friend and also keeps trying to win Jun-pyo's affection.

Oh, it just keeps getting more ridiculous. Jan-di's parents leave, Jan-di and her brother move into a small apartment. Then it gets demolished! Why? Because Jun-pyo's mother, of course. Jan-di's brother is sent to live with their parents, and Jan-di is homeless. For a few hours anyway. Jun-pyo's sister takes her in. Now she's Jun-pyo's personal maid? Lol.

Only 6 episodes left. Is anyone going to have a happy ending?

the fact that the fake dating plotline between yi-jung and ga-eul was COMPLETELY dropped as soon as the episode ended drives me crazy, like as far as jan-di is aware, her friend might have had sex in a hotel with yi-jung AND NEITHER OF THEM BRINGS IT UP EVER AGAIN

Gotta say, second leading man, Yoon Ji-hoo, certainly knows how to fuck with leading man, Gu Jun-pyo, aka his best friend. He knew exactly how to get his friend and main character, Geum Jan-di, to finally date each other.

Which leads us to the part of the kdrama where apparently everything horrible that was done in the beginning is now forgotten. Unbelievable!

Now, the reason I started watching this show: So Yi-jeong, played by Kim Bum (baby brother Lee Rang in Tale of the Nine Tailed & sequel TOTNT 1938). Finally in episode 9 of Boys Over Flowers we get to the beginning of So Yi-jeong and Chu Ga-eul's potential relationship.

Insane, just gorgeous, Kim Bum filmed this 10 years before Tale of the Nine Tailed, age ~20 to ~30.

Anyway, I'm entertained by these rich boys dating "commoner" girls and everyone getting shocked by what the others think is normal.
