I know Abbot and Abbey throwing themselves super deep into consumerism in Mother 3 is to kinda show the naïveté of a lot of the Tazmily villagers with the Pigmasks, but I almost think that it’s no wonder Abbey in particular becomes deeply invested in this materialism. She, far as we know, has no job or hobbies (considering her and Abbot appear to have stopped their gardening/horticulture work entirely), and she is stuck at home while Abbot has a job and gets to have fun at Club Titiboo, a place she is not allowed access to because she does not work at the mine. She, like most women in town, has no access to the common bonding experience / hobbies that men in town get. But she clearly wants to be a part of it, she just can’t be. The meaningless distraction of the newest shiny thing seems to be her only escape and interest, though something about her strikes me as almost profoundly empty at points.

And I don’t think she’s any different than a vast majority of the other adult women in town. The Pigmasks really reinforced gender roles that likely already existed to an extent and created a deeper divide between men and women in town. You see a lot of misogynistic thoughts the male villagers have come out after the timeskip, for example. It’s just another example of the divide the Pigmasks enacted within Tazmily. A united town is a dangerous town, after all.

Is Duster x Kumatora actually canon? What's your opnion about it?

I've already spoken on Kumadust on my main, but tl;dr, I don't like it; I'll answer your questions in the order received.

As far as I am aware, Kumadust has little to no basis in canon. Now, mind you, I have only played Mother 3 up to Chapter 2, almost Chapter 3 (old PC, suck at combos, I'll get there eventually but TOTK has been very distracting), but as you can tell, I am very involved in the fandom for it and would have likely found out if the ship was intentional. This was the best thread I could remember on the matter in case you're curious.

Now, on my part, the best "support" I can think of are post-release art like this:

However, these never appeared in-game and seem to a particular quirk of one of Mother 3's staff members, Nobuhiro Imagawa, long after the release of the game. You know about "official fan art"? That's basically what this is at this point. It's just one person and not Itoi who actually has a say in stuff. Plus, they're just standing there? Like?

Anyway, I'll get to the point: the real bread and butter.

I don't like it because of the the pretty clear age gap implied here.

Duster and Kumatora have a familiar relationship to me as does the entire main cast where Duster is like the uncle to borderline siblings at this point Lucas and Kumatora. And it's not just an age gap. I have very substantial reason to believe Kumatora is a minor. Exhibit A, your honor:

She grows taller over the time skip! You know what this means? She's still going through or only recently underwent puberty! More before and after, top to bottom:

Note the three-quarters pose where she seems to be curvier after the time skip judging by the hoodie's collar. That's a youngun if you're still growing like this over a three year span!

Now you could say, "Oh, but she works at Club Titiboo, that's clearly a bar! She has to be older than twenty then! Delayed puberty!" Okay, right off the bat, legal drinking age is highly dependent on where you're at. In some places, it's even sixteen! Secondly, take one look at the Pigmasks and the fact that their leader is Porky to ask if they give one hoot about child labor laws? In fact, I think Porky would love to make a law to allow minors everywhere; you cannot trust this one bit.

Meanwhile, I don't really have to say much to say for Duster that isn't obvious. He's clearly an adult. He's got a pretty common balding pattern, facial hair, doesn't grow one inch or pixel over the time skip: Duster's a grown man.

Shipping a minor and a clear adult is an automatic no from me. I guess you could still argue somehow that Kumatora is an adult, but I think you're just grasping at straws at that point.

I'm working on some concept art for my Pre-Mother 3 theory right now and I'm getting a little bored, so here's some mother 3 headcanons.

(Spoiler warning!) (Also major Duster favoritism)

Lucas

Terrible at socializing, but still loved for being able to listen.

Unintentionally sneaky. That one kid who's always lurking around.

Smells like cinnamon toast crunch.

Sees Claus in Kumatora.

Something about Duster reminds him of Hinawa. Gets very sentimental whenever he hugs him.

Swears very, very rarely. Someone or something is in a massive amount of danger when he does.

People mistake him for being emotionless when in reality he bottles everything up. When he does finally open the bottle he becomes a massive mess. (Note: Self projection (●'◡'●))

Cleans to distract himself.

Once recieved a comic book from a tourist. Was fascinated by it for a short while but threw it away the same day he got it.

Much stronger than he looks. Taking care of sheep has strengthened him significantly.

Has conflicted feelings about his dad.

Worries if he too will start to bald when he gets older.

Kumatora

I feel like if she was real she'd be into gyaru fashion.

Enjoys doing excessive makeup as a hobby but would only wear eyeliner at max regularly.

Absolutely despised her time working at Club Titiboo but became close friends with the other waitresses. Had considered using her paychecks for a phone to communicate with them once she left.

Got the color of her hair from all the years of PSI training with Ionia. Originally brown-haired.

Was a massive scaredy-cat through the ages of 6 to 9.

Incredible mealtime etiquette. (Ionia's doing)

Her blue pendant originally belonged to her biological parents.

A preteen Duster rescued her from a collapsed building as an infant pre-white ship.

Sprays Duster with perfume to wake him up.

Has dabbled in playing the electric guitar. Gets lessons from Magic in exchange for PSI lightshows.

Sees Duster as an older brother figure. Bullies him relentlessly.

Sees Lucas as a younger brother figure. Dotes on him relentlessly.

Studies other PSI users to improve her own PSI.

Has read every book in Osohe.

Duster

Was surprisingly hot-headed as a kid. Mellowed out as he aged.

Used to have longer hair as a kid but cut most of it off as it interfered with training. Has thought about regrowing it.

His receding hairline is due to stress. After he joined DCMC it started to (slowly) grow back (With the help of some borrowed hair products).

Is clairvoyant in a non-PSI way. Gave Lucas the mini-mini charm before he embarked for Osohe as he knew the kid would be lonely from then on.

Is in a hidden poly relationship with the rest of the band.

Takes care of his afro wig better than he does his actual hair.

He actually wrote lyrics for many of DCMC's songs. A majority of them went unused.

Thinks of Lucas as his legacy and as such never plans on having kids.

Was the one who named Kumatora. Because he was a preteen at the time, he gave her the wildest name he could think of.

Gets frequent nightmares of his pre-white ship days, but completely forgets about them the moment he wakes up.

Is covered head-to-toe in scars and calluses.

Is deemed the most attractive out of the DCMC members. He's heavily against having the title.

Gets incredibly dangerous when drunk (Yor Forger-style drunkard).

Ate ants once because he was tricked into thinking they tasted like cherries.

Was absolutely feral as a teenager. People would only come across him if they were out foraging in the forest.

Many children label him as a Tazmily cryptid. Multiple supernatural rumours about him exist.

Boney

Imagines itself as the twins' third sibling instead of a pet.

Missed Flint the most out of everyone.

A very good dog.

On another note, you are completely welcome to call me crazy but I think Splatoon is a potential continuation of the Mother series timeline. I'll probably write a ridiculously long theory on this later but for now I'll leave it at that.

Where does it imply that (gen)?

This is based on my own observations, by the way, so take it with a heaping grain of salt.

When Lucas and Boney try to get onto Club Titiboo, Kumatora (disguised as Violet) claims that Lucas is Poo that he tends to get mistaken for a kid due to his scent.

Now, this could be Kumatora just bullshitting to get Lucas and Boney in. But I don't know, I also get the feeling that there is some truth to what she is saying.

First of all, him being named at all is a big deal since that implies that he's still around.

In Mother 2, Prince Poo was a lady’s man (yes, this is despite him being 13 then) and used to be very involved with girls due to his training. But perhaps as the years went by, he grew weaker, and eventually, Porky took over, and he fell back into old habits. And with the kind of business Club Titiboo is, I wouldn’t be surprised if the ladies working there made him feel better by pretending he still had some youthfulness to him. In this case, his smell.

I feel like Porky’s age can also be a hint as well. He is still obsessed with Ness, and he even left a letter for him at the end of Earthbound. I wouldn't be surprised if Porky had been lurking this whole time, only striking when he knew the Chosen 4 wouldn't be able to fight back, when they were as old and frail as he is on Mother 3.

And it feels very in-character for Porky to do something like this as opposed to going to a time where Ness either doesn't exist yet or has been long gone.

Not only would he be able to take over the world no problem, but he can mock the Chosen 4 for being too weak to stop him.

But once again, this is what I picked up on. This could all be crap for all I know.

Alright now to part two of the story XD. This might be long too XD

So few years later Lucas is now 13 and heads off with he's dog Boney to visit his mother's grave. His dad gave the grandpa a badge to give to Lucas since he was still looking for Claus. Lucas then decides to find Duster. After hearing roomers about where he is Lucas and Boney heads out to find a job so he can get to Club Titiboo. While heading out he meets a sage that teaches him about PSI and the needles that keep the dragon asleep. If the needles are removed the dragon wakes up and resets the world. After learning about this Lucas heads back looking for that job so he can find Duster. After finding the job and getting allowed to head to Club Titiboo. Lucas heads up the mountain and starts walking up to the club, but he was stopped by security telling them no kids or dogs allowed in the club. Being defended Lucas and Boney leaves for a bit. Lucas then disguises Boney as a dog person and didn't disguise himself just staying he looks like a kid. The security was getting suspicious of them until Kumatora in her Club Titiboo work clothes let Lucas and Boney in. She then explains that Duster is in a band and has also lost his memories. Kumatora believes if he sticks around her, Lucas, and Boney he'll regain his memories. They then meet up with Duster and the band. Duster agrees to go with them and heads out with Lucas, Kumatora and Boney. Kumatora asked if Duster remembers where he hid the life egg which he remembers and tells Kumatora. Lucas and the gang find the egg and Duster regains his memories. Lucas and the gang then finds out someone named Masked Man was pulling the needles so him and the Pigsmasks can take over the world and the dragon. Lucas finds out and decides to pull needles as well XD. After going on his adventure with the Pigsmasks mistaking him as the Masked Man, Lucas sticks with what they have him and his friends wear and heads out. He and his friends were found out so they went back to their normal clothes. Then after trying to hitch a ride on a plane and then getting kicked off falling into a field full of sunflowers he looked around trying to find a way out. While looking around he found Boney. Boney follows him and they noticed Lucas' mother spirit. Lucas overfull with sadness and shock followed his mother's spirit. She leads them out of the field, Lucas then finds Duster and Kumatora and heads out to find the needles again. He run into Mr Saturn who said it'll fix up the badge Lucas' father gave him. After adventuring Lucas meets up with Mr Saturn again and got his badge back. The badge can reflect electric attacks so Lucas keeps it on him. After that Lucas went to find the last needle, but is stop by a very old Porky. Porky was the case of what happened to Lucas' life. Porky then hides in a capsule that keeps him safe, but now can no longer get out of the capsule. Lucas then encounters Masked Man who was about to pull the last needle. Masked Man attacks with electric attack knocking out everyone but Lucas. Lucas then find out Masked Man was Claus by his father. Claus was brainwashed by Porky thinking he's a robot. Their mother's spirit then stops the two from fighting and reminds Claus who he really was. Claus then does a final electric attack getting reflected back at him causing severe injuries to him. Claus then slowly walks over to Lucas, apologizing to him and his father until he dead in Lucas hands. Lucas sadden by this still pulled the final needle waking the dragon. After that the world ends XD

The players after this ending find out everyone is still alive. Though it's up to the player what type of ending they wanted XD
