does anyone else realize that white supremacy in america has also taken white people culture away from various different white cultures there used to be and made it into one conglomerate white person thing. like I can't look back into my ancestors and find any culture at all. and I can't really say that being american is much of a culture really it's just capitalism, and surviving that capitalism

thinking abt how the 'team edward' shirt for the encore at tacoma dome was most likely a costume of a sort as well
in line with the analysis of all gerards feminine costumes being a subversion of female archetypes, its symbolizing the 2000s Teenage Girl, the demographic associated with twilight and the whole team jacob/team edward thing
and it kinda represents the reclaiming of what many at the time viewed as trivial due to the largely teenaged female fanbase, such as twilight, and even mcr themselves to an extent, and also drawing the connection between the two due to well. their shared history

slave owners were called Master. And why should they want to be called something that represents a “racist institution”?
Because "Master" in this context isn't even a title displaying a power imbalance, it's just a polite way to address a boy who's too young to be called mister. Every boy can be called master regardless of class or race.
Should we also get rid of all Master's degrees because the word "master" is just inherently racist now? Was there no headmaster at your school? Or do we understand that words have more than one meaning? This leaves aside that the offensive derivative of master is massa. Massa, it's spelled and pronounced differently for a reason, and that's where the racist context comes from: mocking the speech of enslaved Africans. Most people understand these two representations of the same word have different meanings.
Also, racist institution in quotations 🙄 Go fuck yourself, maybe the heat generated by the friction will help you develop more brain power. I'm pretty sure there's also been a slave owner or three that's been addressed as Your Majesty. Maybe we should also get rid of that title as well?

Omegaverse BL - Japan (Part 1)
[This is a summary of these posts 1 , 2. Corrections and critiques are welcome.]
Tumblr media
mibu no tsugai
Omegaverse, which was born in 2015, has become a large [BL sub-]genre with over 1000 works as of 2023.
Omegaverse basics
α/β/Ω settings – a setting wherein beings [usually humans] are divided primarily into male and female and secondarily into α, β, and Ω genders which has huge impacts on their lives. Secondary gender is determined through blood tests taken at school during childhood or adolescence. [While this is the basic premise, there is only one rule – every rule is to be bend and broken.]
α (Alpha) – occupies the highest echelon of this fictional setting. Comprised of talented elites. Male alphas [depending on the work may] have knot at the base of their penis.
β (Beta) – Ordinary. Largest in number. Doesn’t experience heats, release pheromones or have knot. Usually born of β parents.
Ω (Omega) - experience heats, release pheromones that seduces alpha and beta automatically. Both men and women can become pregnant during the heat cycle. Occupies lowest strata of society - below α or β.
Roots
Born in the west – from furry moe culuture that incorporated a now discarded theory of ranking in wolf packs.
Became popular in Japan around 2014. First appeared in derivative works, then in self-published works and finally in commercial BL.
commercial BL debut
“Omegaverse Project” published in March 2015 by Fusion Productions - a BL anthology specializing in Omegaverse.
terminology
pair – A setting-specific bonding established when α bites Ω's nape during coitus during omega’s heat period. Henceforth, paired Ω’s pheromones can only be smelt by his α. Usually lasting till death but if an α unilateral breaks it off, Ω’s health and life itself could be threatened. Sometime, Ω covers their nape with a choker to avoid unintentional pair. In some works, forming pair bond is viewed as destiny and in some others destined pairs exist.
heat - begins in the late teens. Roughly once every few months. Involves strong pheromones secretion and intense lust and desire to breed with heightened fertility almost guaranteeing pregnancy if contraceptives aren’t used. Fated encounters such as those of destined pairs can trigger heat.
heat suppressant – drugs to suppress heat/heat cycles. Some works involves inhibitors that offer complete or partial immunity for alphas from getting pulled into whirlpool of lust. There are individual differences when it comes to compatibility of drugs, and strong side effects may occur.
rut – (sometimes extreme) heats of α. Could be triggered by Ω pheromones and heat. Could be characterized by additional features such as aggression, heightened physical abilities and protectiveness especially towards Ω.
nesting - The act of unconsciously bringing the personal belongings of someone or someone you like into your bed to create your own nest.
bitching - gender change to Ω. Could be triggered by (prolonged) exposure to α pheromones, etc. Converting to α = studding; Converting to β = neutraling.
α or β→Ω: Bitching ビッチング
Ω or β→α: Studding スタディング
α or Ω→β: Neutering ニュータリング
(To read more about gender changes)
Everything associated with omegaverse vary from work to work.
-
α (seme) x Ω (uke) – royal road progression (odo) of omegaverse
Kono Te wo Hanasanai de by Sakimoto Saki
Kamisama Nanka Shinjinai Bokura no Eden by Ichinose Yuma
unconventional – works that overturn the premise
α・β×Ω Romantic Joutou by Moriyo
Ω×α Boku no High Spec Kareshi-sama by Yotsuashi
β×Ω City Lights Birthday by Hongou Chika
α×α Bokura wa Unmei Janai by Binzoko Keima

Looking at popular works and what made them popular
Tumblr media
Commercial BL manga - works listed in chil-chil.net
Tumblr media
Commercial BL novel - works listed in chil-chil.net
2015 Dawn of the Commercial BL Omegaverse
Omegaverse Project – omegaverse as niche [sub-]genre. Therefore, what got published was also content did not conform to the mainstream:
Romantic Joutou by Moriyo - β×Ω pairing
Sayonara Koibito, Mata Kite Tomodachi by Yoha – disturbing content including a violent r4pe.
Paradigm Shift by Pii - β becomes Ω
Content catering towards a niche audience.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The popularity of these three works mark a big turning point for omegaverse which from the onset was willing to go beyond the framework.
2016 Birth of popular series, popularization of Omegaverse
Kashikomarimashita, Destiny by Sachimo
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Another masterpiece that not only soared to popularity but also became gateway for may new fans. Characteristics – setting akin to medieval Europe, α×β, fighting fate and instinct.
Tadaima Okaeri by Ichikawa Ichi
Tumblr media
A slice of life BL that tipped its toe into severe social circumstances such as familiar disapproval surrounding marriage and discrimination based on secondary gender which probably struck too close to home for some reader’s comfort. In the same vein, Kurui Naku no wa Boku no Ban by Kusabi Keri depicted omega sacrificing his body for the sake of promotion. Another popular manga that catered to niche interest was Pendulum: Kemonohito Omegaverse by Hasumi Hana.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
2017 the Year of KUSEGATSUYOI!
(クセが強い = unique)
The three highest rated works from this year are unique and pushes a bunch of boundaries.
Sayonara Alpha by Ichinashi Kimi – shota α in a fated mates/destined pair narrative
Ai to Makoto by Moriyo – α・Ω×Ω 3P with twins (α & Ω). Moreover, Ω twin is riba.
Shounen no Kyoukai by Akabeko – looks like odo but is far from it.
Omegaverse seem to make a lot of unsual plotlines palatable – at least better than regular settings.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
2018 Light-hearted comedic works trend
2018 witnessed a 180 degree turn in terms of what got really famous. It was a year of lighter works. Even the covers are lighter.
Kekkon Shite Kudasai! by Tsurugi Ichiro – unique Ω
Megumi to Tsugumi by SI Mitsuru
Both of them are comedies that would appeal even to those who are not necessarily into omegaverse.
Okusama wa Alpha by Natsushita Fuyu - α×α romantic comedy involving α uke struggling with gender roles while seeking professional help along with his husband and α pregnancy.
Gender doesn’t matter, what matters is you!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Omegaverse is finally a popular BL sub-genre.
2019 Finally! A Odo Work is the most popular
[I too am frankly surprised by how long it took for an odo omegaverse to become the most popular.] This is probably due to the expansion in readership base – as it is no longer a niche interest, expanded readership is probably most comfortable with works that are easy-to-understand odo omegaverse.
Kiraide Isasete by Hijiki
Anti Alpha by Okuda Waku
Both these works featured odo
Yukyu Omega by Fujimine Shiki – broke away from the popular imagination of a pitable Ω
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
2020 Speedy & Business Relationships
Meppou Yatara to Yowaki ni Kiss by Koshino – destined pair but not the type they are into
Unmei no Tsugai ga Omae da Nante by Haruta – mate finding service, a reflection of IRL dating apps
Maku ga Oritara Bokura wa Tsugai by Zarame Same
Are you really into me or just my body?
2021 Omegaverse as a habit of living things
Kamisama Nanka Shinjinai Bokura no Eden by Ichinose Yuma – depicts [what-if] first α and Ω characters ever.
Gochisou Ω wa Chuu to Naku by Hanasawa Namio – funny and heartwarming depiction of apex predator behavior paired with beastman omegaverse
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
2022 Omegaverse + A New World View
While in 2021 works that viewed α, Ω, and β as from a new perspective became popular, 2022 saw popularity moving to works with unique worldviews.
Ruby Red wo Kamikudaku by Saku Hiro – Ω can see pheromones.
Aijitsu to Hanayome by Nagisa Ayumu – sweet romance between God α x villager Ω in the backdrop of a setting wherein Ω are offered as sacrifice to God due to their lust-inducing nature.
Kono Te wo Hanasanai de by Sakimoto Saki – α×Ω odo omegaverse that depicts the burden associated with each [secondary] gender.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Omegaverse BL works that are popular range from those with classic progession (odo) to those with unique worldviews. This sub-genre with a premise rife with rigid class system and reenforced discriminations has become a sanctuary for narratives that emphasizes looking beyond gender.

As in most jobs, you're not there to be well rounded and happy, you're there to function. It reminds me of guinea pigs. When they get sick, they pretend everything is fine, so they don't get excluded by their group. I don't think it's just simply Anakin not wanting to talk about it, he's also in an environment that specifically told him: If you're not functioning the way we need you to, you can no longer be with us. Pairs well with abandonment issues. While I think you raise a point with the Jedi having more resources than we think, etc. I still want to add: The Jedi don't take on children just because they want them to have the best life they could get (like maybe a parent would want for a child). They want these children to become the best Jedi they could be. Of course this involves mental health as well, but the goal is different. -- @corbygoesart
Okay much of what you said is unequivacolly false.
Being a Jedi isn't just a job; it's an entire way of life and is considered a religion in-universe. Tarkin literally has called it such since A New Hope.
For all this talk of Anakin being excluded, It's really weird how in Star Wars: The Clone Wars animated series, they do the exact opposite. Anakin has gotten praise, support, and the respect of fellow Jedi such as Adi Gallia, Luminara Unduli, Plo Koon, Yoda, etc on screen. Even with his hestitance in fully trusting Anakin, Mace actually respects Anakin's skills as a combatant and general. And they sure get along just fine in the series without actually hating each other contrary to fandom's belief.
And finally, you're intentionally framing the Jedi taking in and raising children in any manner to be inheretly negative. Are you gonna say the same thing for Mandalorians when they take in foundlings? Are we gonna question how people in real life religions do the same thing? Conversely, is Mandalorians teaching their own biological children to be Mandarloians okay? Why is that accepted or not? How about people who teach their children their culture/religion/way of life in general, biological or otherwise? What Im saying here is that being taught a certain way of life at a young age is not a form of manipulation by anyone inheretly.
There's absolutely nothing wrong with Jedi taking in children and making them Jedi. They can trained them to be the BEST Jedi they can be AND want the best out of them. The two are not mutually exclusive. I chose Mandalorians because that's the easiest, next best known example but what you describe is literally done within any culuture revealed in Star Wars and in general.
Point here is that Anakin didn't want to talk about his issues and it wasn't beacuse he was trying to meet any sort of expectation. I'm really tired of people inserting a whole new non-canon. Anakin didn't like talking about his problems in general and that's understandable. Anakin also did have something to hide that would get him kicked out: massacaring Tusken Raiders and marriage with Padme.
Out of the reasons Anakin did not seek help, it had little to do with some made-up expectations of the Jedi nor does it relate to being in a certain kind of enviroment. I feel arguments like this just want to scapegoat the Jedi when you have a far better scapegoat who intentionally made him think he didn't need anyone's help but their own (Palpatine).

Oh i thought because you like ancient Greek mythology you would like neoclassicism. But of course it's not the same because the ancient Greek marbles were extraordinary and inspired the neoclassicism which was European but unfortunately Greeks were participated in this :(
I think the question was what I find interesting, not what I like. I like a lot of things that I don't find interesting, and lot of things I don't like catch my interest.
however, I did include neoclassicism in my answer, as partly overlapping/ being included in academic art, but not because of its rather superficial relation to ancient greek mythology or ancient greece. I really like observing the skill and knowledge it showcases, so that's why it is interesting to me. I like a lot of ancient greek art in the same way that I like all art, that is to say, sometimes because of the concept (be is something funny or unique etc) , sometimes because it's stylized in a way that I enjoy, sometimes because I admire the skill, and sometimes because it's showing me something interesting, like pottery drawings that show mundane every day things. The vast majority of art we have from anceint greece as a whole isn't like hermes of praxiteles or the doryphoros or any other masterpiece. Masterpieces were and still are few and far between, in general. Drawing and painting in europe after the rennaisance was miles ahead of ancient greek drawing and painting in terms of skill. I don't see anything particularly extraordinary about ancient greek sculpture specifically, the same type of masterpieces were made in rome later, in the rennaisance and even nowadays, whenever artists had enough resources and the overall art climate was leaning towards more realistic renderings. The artists back then and the artists now are the same type of human. It so happened that in an area with excellent climate, wealth sources such as silver mines and overseas trade and a frankly huge amount of easily available marble, as well as political and social curcumstances that nurished the arts, this type of sculpture was developed and flourished, but drawing on centuries of experience, and prior influence from the monumental works of the ancient egyptians, at the very beginning. that's all to say that I don't think it's good to have an idealised idea of ancient greek art and we need to shake that way of thinking off asap. We must go to a museum and look at all the things, not just the 2 famous, exceptional exhibits, if we want to talk about an entire culture's (or often, slightly different sub culutures included in the same overall category) artwork. That pottery piece with the funny hoplite owl means so much more to me than the aphrodite of melos, who I frankly neither like as an art piece nor care about (and that's fine because we all have our completely subjective preferences for art), and the overwhelming majority of art from minoan to hellenistic times leans more towards the first in terms of what I would call measurable skill for lack of a better word.
TL:DR That's an inexcusably long rant form my part to say that I don't think the neoclassical masterpieces were in any objective way infrerior to the masterpieces from the 5th or 4th century bce. PS There's a lot that's been said and can be said about the west's greek-excluding perception of ancient greece so i won't get into that now.

So I watched TMNT 2007 in my native language subtittle BM(Bahasa Melayu/Malay(in english)). And I'm wheezing at this term because the term "Jual Mahal" is a term that usually means "play hard to get" but in a more serious tone since asian(well,SEAsian in my case) that also says "Don't be so easily swayed when a man flirt you" Again, for me as a SEAsian(I could be wrong tho), has strict rules and advices among society and culutural-wise about woman and man contact(normally the girls because bias exist), communication and relationship before marraige. Watching movies with subtittles in your native language are fun.
But anyway back on topic, It's funny anyways because it's like Donnie is being explicitly being flirted by the man that called himXD Oh Donnie, you poor hardwoking turtle boy. I pity you

Hi Jen!
Im 20y and a lesbian that loves lesbian history and im just wondering about that Era that you lived as a lesbian: the 80's and e the 70's.
There was so many lesbian magazines, zines, activism....i spend hours of my days reading online the Lavender Menace magazine and Sinister Wisdom, its just so amazing to me that lesbians created a fundation of their our culture, language and lifestyle at the time. So my question is, how was it back then compared to today since we dont have the same kind of community, we have barely 5 lesbian bars in the whole US and our activism is fragmented almost non existent? Especially since lesbophobia or oppresion on homossexuals did not end and we still face it.
Thanks, and I love your blog.
I was lucky enough to come out in a place, Iowa City, where lesbians were well organized and active. Iowa City was the home of a Women's Press printing group that formed under the idea that "We coudn't get it printed so we learned how to print". That press was disbanded in 1985 but it's legacy lived on. My lesbian community was broad and diverse and welcoming. They had a history of working together even if they weren't old enough or active in the political side of things in the early 80's. The foundation of lesbians (women) working together was built and we stood on that solid ground.
I was never a big reader of lesbian history. I preferred to experience it in life, to hear the stories from the other lesbians in my community or at festival or wherever I could corner some woman to tell her about her life. But sometimes now I read over the older pamphlets and news letters and every time it renews my passion to pass on lesbian culuture and positivity to others. I see the importance of keeping papers and not relying on computer documents and only oral, unrecorded stories.
What used to be the University of Iowa Lesbian archives is now housed under the LGBTQIA archives but you can still seach “lesbian” and they curators/volunteers (at least one of which is a butch lesbians ;) )are happy to email you images to read. You can look for entire collections and almost all are digitized or in the process. Through that archive you aill find new places to search. They have   tiktok as well.
https://lgbtqiowa.org/history-by-letter/history-by-letter-1-iowa-city-womens-press/
Most universities have some sort of lesbian archive in their special collections. They are a great place to start for local lesbian history. And they are more than happy to share. Some even offer free lectures if you want to organize the space (public library) and do some advertising.
www.LConline.org is Lesbian Connection. You can subscribe for about 35.00 or free to lesbians is you can’t afford to pay. They often sell back issues.
Now that you have some new sources. Heres how it was for me when I came out in 1993, just out of college to years and living in Iowa City which was often called the Gayest town in Iowa. A sort of gay and lesbian bubble in a state not known for diversity.
We have a gay club, in every major city. Des Moines with several, Iowa City, Cedar Rapids, the Qaud Cities and Waterloo/Cedar Falls. We have an unofficial lesbian club ( a bar owned by lesbians, close enough) in Iowa City. We were all in our early to late 20′s and so going out and dancing/drinking was sort of a go to for us. We had lesbian pool, dart. softball, volleyball (my favorite) and kickball leagues. Only lesbians. There were gay men leagues as well and we sometimes played each other for fun. There were also mixed groups for those who wanted to play on multiple nights or wanted that space. We had a BLAST!  After (and often during games) we shared beer and laughter, meals and snacks.
The bars that hosted us were mostly straight and we brought income and activitiy so we had no push back and were often invited to new ones. The volleyball and softball fields gave us equpment to use and sometimes a business, like a bar or restaurant would give us t shirts. If we wore those shirts around we sometimes got discounts. What a grand time we had!
As we got older going out or playing sports and practicing 2 or 3 nights a week became more difficult. Jobs, kids, home ownership and priorities shifted. Instead my friend group had monthly potlucks or meeting at a restaurant. The lesbian bar burned down and was not rebuilt so we took to camp fires at each others homes or meals at diners on Saturday morning.
Women’s Festivals became an important part of my life and that of my lesbian friends. I started going in 1994 when introduced by my first girlfriend and friend group. In the later years, when we were not as active locally due to life being busy, we would spend time planning and prepping for that 7 to 10 day camping in a state 7 hours away. We would gather with a purpose and eat and drink and talk about memories and what fun we will have on vacation.  Those 7 days camping at a women’s festival gave us the down time to hang out and renew our friendships. Time to talk and laugh and dance and catch up without the world in the way. Without that women’s festival being the steady, predictable place for us to meet I am not sure our friend group would still be strong like it is.
Now we meet to talk about the “old days” over food or campfires. We zoomed over covid realizing how much we missed each other and how life had gotten in the way. Since then we try harder to make time. We are getting back to festivals and bring new, young lesbians on board to experience what was life changing to us. To ME.  We work together (my boss and her wife and my first ex are all friends from my coming out days). We MAKE time to eat out or camp or just sit in lawn chairs in back yards.
This is my lesbian experience. And I wish all lesbians could land in the lap of such a strong group of women like I did. NOT that there was not drama LOL. Of course there were exes and breakups and disagreements but when someone needed time she knew she could take it and we would keep inviting. No one was shamed for “never coming” because we all knew not joining in now did not mean she would not want to come back in the future.
When the world gets too much and i look in my DM’s or on line and see younger or newly out older lesbians suffering from distress caused by isolation or the current political envirnonment or lack of lesbian role models I go to my friends and talk and listen and get hugs. They ultimately give me hope and I take that out into the world.
We are finding each other and the key is to translate on line community to in person community. Three lesbians getting coffee and forming a friendship is better than 20 lesbians meeting on line although both are better than no lesbians connecting. The adivice I always give and stand firm on is get to a womens or lesbian festvial. You will not regret it. It will change your life and give you life long friendships.
