You know how we got that Camila backstory crumbs? Episode two opens with Darius having a dream where it’s him and his mentor just hanging out and we get to see his 20s or 30s design depending, and then the man disappears and he looks around fearfully and then his mentor has turned into Hunter and he’s like “Darius? Why didn’t you protect me?” And he disappears too and in his place there’s Belos with a smirk on his face and then Darius wakes up in a pool of his own sweat.

Okay so I love the concept of the prev golden guard being close to Eberwolf as much as the next guy but consider the opposite: the prev gg thought Eber was a nuisance and only put up with him because Darius liked him.

I can imagine when they all get back to the BI Hunter is terrified but about to confront Belos himself, no magic no staff no nothing just pure concentrated power of will here, and at the last second Darius shoves him out of the way like, “Hunter, run!” First time we hear him use Hunter’s actual name, too. And Hunter, who is very obsessed with protecting others, is getting to feel himself be protected by his father figure. And Darius does this, like, fully expecting to die, but he’s at peace about it because he couldn’t protect the first Golden Guard but he can protect this one.

And then he gets a cool one-liner like “oh I’ve waited a long time for this.”
