It is one of my absolute favorite fics. It is so achingly beautiful and heart wrenching. It generally takes a lot to make me cry. This fic did it. There is this one scene specifically and one line that Patrick says that just broke me. Just absolutely shattered me. I became a weeping mess. And just as beautifully, the fic put me back together. This fic truly has it all; angst, pining, falling in love and so much deep, unwavering love and devotion.

In this fic we get to follow David, as he was before the Roses lost their riches, struggle with the fact that the life as he knew it, is gone and he is now living in the middle of nowhere and is married to a stranger. In other words, this is an amnesia fic. What both David and Patrick go through in this fic is beautifully painful and profound. David's relationships with his parents, with Alexis, with Stevie and with the Brewers is also expertly explored. This fic will stay with you long after you've read it. My humble opinion is that this fic is a masterpiece and if by some miracle, you haven't read it, what are you waiting for?!

David is in trouble. Yes, he’s stranded on an island in the middle of nowhere with no hope for imminent retrieval, but now he’s fucking horny. And he’s stranded here with the model of virility and outdoorsmanship, which he’s never thought he was into, but fuck him if circumstances have changed. He has needs.

The problem is, he has nowhere to put his eyes. Patrick is shirtless now, swinging his makeshift rock machete into a thicket of god-knows-what in search of…ugh. He can’t remember what Patrick said he was doing, because all David hears when Patrick talks lately is the undersexed cartoon character in his own head leering homina homina homina, as the animated drool threatens to slide out his ear.

Craziest one would have to be the Big Brother/Schitts Creek one that me and @mariss-ugh did! We worked soooooo hard on that one and it took months to complete but it was so worth it, I had a blast working on it with my bestie.

I’ve gotten criticism on my fics likes typos and stuff like that even though I was a new writer… or unasked for “constructive criticism”

Love writing smut

Bound: Favored Nations by @blueink3

This was a fun one! This fic is beloved in the Schitt's Creek fandom, for good reason. It's one of the few times I've read along with a WIP and didn't wait until the end. I would eagerly await the release of each new chapter on Sunday. I knew I'd be binding it at some point, it's too good not to.

It's also a CHONK. 270k words and 720ish pages. That's 23 8-page signatures.

A few firsts for this one:

First time using real, purchased bookcloth. Not sure I want to go back to the homemade kind, but seeing as bookcloth isn't cheap nor easy to get, that's not realistic.

It was also the first time I used an oxford hollow. I thought it would help support the massive heft of this volume. Time will tell, I suppose! I followed the tutorial in this excellent video.

And despite my best intentions, it was my first time using the foil quill on the cover because HTV is the devil and the cover got all forked up but I just leaned into it a bit and used the foil quill to fill in bits, and also to do the spine.

I couldn’t pick just one of these wonderfully variable scenarios that all include just a little (or maybe a lot of) magic added to the perfect scene setting and banter.

ALL OF IT! It’s my go-to when I’m feeling down, when I need to revise our boys. The characters, writing, and plot are all amazing. 

Amazing world building, very in character slow burn.

The ultimate slow burn, the perfect love story set amongst the wonders of Broadway and NYC.

It’s just so, so good!  I am a sucker for secret romance fics, and this one has that and so much more.  Add in some Shakespearean theater with a twist and just the right amount of angst and sexiness, it’s just perfect! I love it so much.  

This author knows David, Patrick, and the NY theater world inside and out. The volume and level of specificity, volume, tenderness, anxiety, and love of these characters and worlds is astounding. The characterization is so vivid, it's the easiest fic to forget isn't canon.

Fifteen hundred miles (morehuman)

I go back to this fic a lot! I just love the idea of them both challenging themselves and finding out what they are capable of.

The most incredible journey, a gift to go along with them in it.

I love this transportative, visual feast of historic fiction. Luscious WW2 Paris is so vividly portayed and David’s wild, wealthy, LGBTIQ+out flamboyance juxtaposed to the farm-boy turned military-man Patrick is sexy and sweet. It undoes me every time. I actually first came to the piece via FairManor’s outstanding podfic. Both the text and the podfic are high art. It’s not just one of my favorite fan-fics. It’s one of my favorite stories of ALL time in any genre. I read/listen and I am at the Gaston, riding on the back of Patrick’s motorcycle, kissing in windmills, eating crepes, touring junk shops & dancing naked to 40’s blues. I’d give anything to see this as a film with Dan & Noah & cast. I want a leather bound print copy of it. Also - The epilogue is progressive, heartbreaking thoughtful genius. I’ve just finished rereading & listening to it again. Each time there are new Easter eggs to be found. Joyous. 

It's just the most beautiful piece of writing ever written. Descriptive, lyrical, hot, stunning, heartbreaking. It has everything.

Achingly sweet and fluffy all set in the perfect baseball/famous AU with secret relationship AND musician Patrick. I come back to reread this one a lot!

What isn't there to love?  Baseball, long distance relationship, sex, songs, coming out to the parents, coming out to the team, coming out to the world, excellent use of side characters....I could go on and on.  There are so many amazing fics out there, but I've read this one at least a dozen times!

A beautifully written story of our boys meeting on vacation. Their trip is so sweet and so hot, and when they say goodbye, it's heartbreaking. The twist- they are both famous in their own worlds but don’t recognize each other so don’t realize who the other has hooked up with. When their week ends, they try to maintain a long-distance friendship as they learn who the other is. What was a hot hookup becomes a slow burn, and it’s amazing!!

Gorgeous writing, the perfect mix of canon and AU, clever plot, great dialogue.  The fic I read over and over.  It’s as comforting as a warm blanket.

Hot firefighters. Hot sex. Hot romance. But like in a Sandra loves Keanu sliding out of a speeding bus kind of way.

Hot hot hot!  That’s the first work. Then- the author developed a prequel that is also hot but is also funny, loving, sweet. Love fireman Patrick!

This enemies-to-lovers-to-secret-husbands story featuring Patrick Brewer as a firefighter, is deliciously tropey and blazing hot, but also it’s written with such authentic emotion and perfect banter that it keeps me coming back to read it whenever I need a mood lift.

Great story, the very best jokes, and the wedding date chapter is so good it would work as a stand alone fic. 

It's got the mother of all fake dating scenarios, and Stevie in this in among the best I've ever read her. It's also very very funny. All the times when they say Feel The Air crack me up every time!

This is a perfectly paced one-shot AU that builds a world in which David is a brilliant, stormy, reclusive artist whose whose treatment by the press (and one Sebastien Raine) has made him unwilling to engage with the world…. Until he meets an intuitive and kind art writer who sees him for everything that he is (and can be). All of characters here are perfect and I love the descriptions of David’s art.

It takes the David and Patrick rescue each other theme of the show and makes the stakes even higher. Plus it's just a genuinely beautiful piece of writing.

The story arc and pacing are fantastic. I love how David and Patrick's relationship develops and how Patrick learns to open himself up again after grief. It's incredibly well written. I've read it so many times, from full read thrus to dipping in and out of my favorite moments and chapters.

Patrick is so heartbroken, but then he meets David. So romantic, and feels lived in.

I've been thinking about this fic for close to two years. I finally wrote part one and started dropping it in August of last year and I've dropped the final chapter of Part 2.

I honestly can't fucking believe it. But now I get to write something different (no pressure). Inspired by the Schitt's Creek Monthly Drabble Challenge and fortified by the enthusiastic cheerleading and encouragement of @a-noble-dragon and @flowertrigger, I wrote a drabble. Ironically, my first foray into writing takes place during the night at Stevie's, but not the sexy part. The part where Jake shows up and sends Patrick spiraling.

This will eventually be on AO3, after @a-noble-dragon hand holds me through the process of posting it there.

David’s hands stroke the shoulders of Patrick’s sky-blue sweater, but Patrick can’t stop staring at the man who kissed David. Mr. Henley – he’s definitely not getting a name – dated Stevie and David simultaneously? David dated lumberjacks, celebrities, models and Patrick proposed to Rachel despite never feeling right. How can he tell David about her, about the weight of inertia and expectations? Is there a scenario where that conversation doesn’t derail their evening? Patrick is done with going slow. He desperately needs David and a full night of guaranteed privacy. He has to avoid the topic of exes at all costs.

5 Favorite Fics I’ve Written

For Fanfic Writers Appreciation Day

Thanks for the tags, @mostlyinthemorning and @lizzie-bennetdarcy.

Well, here goes nothing 😂.

1. The More You Know-I used to play competitive bar trivia twice a week and this fic was born out of that. Except no one in my league ever quite had the connection David and Patrick did. Patrick is a musician with a secret; David wants to win $50,000 dollars in a trivia competition. Of course, they fall in love along the way. I managed to work in as many fun tropes as I could, a break up scene that breaks my own heart, and a sex scene based on the memory palace, so I am proud of how this turned out.

David Rose needs a sixth person for ultimate (trivia) game play. Enter Patrick Brewer.

It's two smart idiots falling in love.

2. I swallow the sound and it swallows me whole- I love this fic with my whole heart, and I love David and Patrick in it. It’s hard subject matter (Patrick experiences a true medical emergency in the form of a stroke and loses his ability to speak) but it is truly a love story. It has multiple POVs, including an outside original character, and it all weaves together to show that David and Patrick don’t need words as much as they need each other. It means a lot to me for lots of reasons, but not the least of which is how many people shared their own stories and gratitude in the comments, and how several people told me they used the information about stroke awareness to help someone they loved. It will always make me cry.

3. people like that are the only people here-I call this “the Thanksgiving fic” but it’s really about Patrick’s queer journey and how his family communicates. It was the first fic of mine that Distractivate beta’d and began our epic friendship, so it will always be super special to me. I loved writing the Brewers, and I regretted deeply involving the Roses at the same time (I’m kidding) but it taught me how to juggle multiple larger-than-life characters in a pivotal scene and for that, I’m grateful. And I think the ending fucking rocks.

4. Some Days Are Diamonds-A trend is definitely developing for me in that I love hurt/comfort fics. I love reading them, I love writing them, and this fic encompasses that love, I think. It’s David living with chronic pain, and how he and Patrick navigate that, together. Like with the stroke fic, I was once again blown away by how many people shared their experiences with me in the comments, and felt represented and heard and seen. I promise you’ll laugh as much as you might tear up while reading it, and David and Patrick’s love shines through.

5. Hook, Line, and Sinker-I wrote this for a fest and it was not widely read lol, but it’s a fishing date that Patrick takes David on early in their relationship (inspired by Noah in waders). I recently re-read this and I have to say, some of my favorite jokes are in this thing. Fishing is a filthy, filthy sport. But beyond that, I like how David just wants to get to know Patrick better, even if it means terrible rubber pants and live animals, and Patrick, in turn, wants to be known. Also I wrote one of my favorite kissing lines ever—David kissed him then, more in self-defense than anything, but as Patrick deepened the kiss, it turned into something new. David was always fascinated by the differences in their styles; how David always kissed Patrick like it might be the last time, and Patrick always kissed him like it was the first. Not to say that he was fumbling or tentative, but that it was exciting and thrilling and fresh, every time.

Seven Sentence Sunday

“I know fancy hotels and spa treatments and fluffy robes aren’t your thing, but that’s not what this is about.” David explains demurely, dimple deepening in his cheek as he stabs a bite of blueberry pancake, swirling it in a puddle of syrup on his plate. “It’s about connecting.”

The emphasis David puts on the last word has Patrick’s cheeks hot. He clears his throat and raises an eyebrow, unable to control his urge to tease.

“So you’re saying you didn’t just book it for the pillow menu?”

David gasps theatrically into his latte. “How dare you take the name of the pillow menu in vain.” A sip. “Also, I can’t believe you remember me talking about the pillow menu.”

“It was a very you thing to be excited about.” Patrick’s cheeks are even hotter now and he clears his throat and looks down, taking a bite of toast to keep from exposing himself even further, trying not to reveal that he hangs on every single word David says. When he dares to glance back up, it’s obvious David is clearly wildly pleased, a little pink in the face himself.

“I do know what I like.” He concedes, eyes shining, knee brushing against Patrick’s under the table. Patrick smiles.

“Too soon to call, but that might be the understatement of the decade.”

Bound: A Fair Return by thingswithwings

I wanted to bind a fic for a friend, and I decided on this iconic Schitt's Creek fic that was the first podfic they recorded. It is also my longest bind so far, and maybe as long as I'd put in one volume? I don't think it's too unwieldy, though.

Everything was going smoothly - almost too smoothly - when I got impatient and ironed on the vinyl before the glue was completely dry. I suspect that's why the original cover (in "Patrick Brewer button up shirt blue", thank you very much) got all splotchy. Or maybe the fabric was too thin. I dunno.

So I decided to remake the cover in "Patrick Brewer's tight jeans denim" instead. And I think it all worked out for the best. I adore how it looks.

And the holographic HTV? I love how it changes color depending on the light and it behaved quite nicely for me. (Again, patience is key with HTV.)

Gold? Blue? Copper? Depends on the light!

The text block didn't give me nearly as many problems. It all went together smoothly, whew! And my new sewing frame did help when it came to stitching this behemoth together.

Incidentally, this is the third gift bind I've made, but due to various factors, sometimes involving the USPS and keeping a package in Miami for TWO WEEKS, this is the first one to make it to its recipient. I am so excited to share the other two!
