#daydreaming of Christmas with maverick
compacflt · 9 months
Note
the thought of icemav celebrating christmas together makes me a bit crazy. what do they give each other???
usually nothing . That’s kind of a big deal. in the 80s/90s they’d (reluctantly) celebrate Christmas with carole and bradley (who took that shit kinda seriously) so they wouldn’t really do anything by themselves. Maybe go out for a nice clandestine dinner just cause. After Carole dies and Bradley’s papers get pulled from the academy, ice’s low key newfound interest in celebrating christmas is one of his many many ways to try and normalize relations between him & maverick and try to improve their relationship in the conspicuous absence of the rest of their family. but yes he does make an effort—as does mav—to take advantage of holiday time to be with him as often as possible so, though their schedules don’t always line up, after 2006 they spend about 3/4 xmases together
Ice has very few hobbies besides a.) lovingly working on his cars & plane and b.) reading, so he is exceptionally easy to shop for (as most hobbyless men are): nice tie pins, cufflinks, those unnecessarily expensive hardcover books about weird random topics you find in airport bookstores, fountain pens, nautical /aeronautical themed paperweights, nice leather watchbands etc. highbrow rich guy stuff
Maverick has sooooo many stupid little hobbies that each last between 4-6 months so he is ridiculously hard to shop for— “i thought you were into woodworking so i got you some tools :)!” “uh no that was in April. im trying to learn how to make wallets now” :( so mostly if ice ever gets him anything it’s usually just an expensive dinner date in the city or cash in a blank card or a blank signed check for airplane parts for the next year. Buy whatever you want idc <3
any and all gifts are given with extremely little fanfare PLEASE don’t make it a big deal… hidden around the house with a little “merry xmas!” note attached, or shoved into each others suitcases pre-leaving-for-navy-reasons, or unceremoniously dropped into one’s lap while he’s watching tv, “here you go,” “oh, this is nice, thanks!” Et cetera. love language of gifts/acts of service, but, like, very quietly.

How the Hangman Stole Christmas! - TGM
Tumblr media
Summary: It's Secret Santa time for the Dagger Squad! Every year, Hangman manages to figure out everyone's SS and spoil the fun, but the rest of the squad is determined to keep him in the dark this year. Will they succeed, or will Jake Seresin once again be the Dagger Squad's personal Grinch?
Warnings/Content: Plain ol' silliness, alcohol mentioned, starred out swearing, OC included, little to no editing happened here
Word Count: ~1024
A/N: Merry Christmas Eve, everyone! My gift to you is this silly little blurb. Wishing you smiles, joy, and peace from Above in the coming days! <3
How the Hangman Stole Christmas!
“Go away, Bagman.”
“No.”
“**** off.”
“Forget it.”
“Seriously, Jake?”
“Didn’t you ruin Christmas enough last year?”
Jake Seresin worked with a bunch of losers. It wasn’t his fault that he’d managed to figure out everyone’s Secret Santa last year. Or that they’d decided to try it again this year. He was just that smart, and his squad was just that bad at keeping secrets.
Of course, he probably didn’t have to announce everyone’s Secret Santa the day before the exchange, but that was besides the point.
Unfortunately, everyone was being a stick in the mud and complaining that he “ruined Christmas.” Even Fanboy was uncharacteristically tight-lipped on the topic. The other Daggers had evidently told Maverick about the incident as well, as Jake was met with an instant “I don’t know” when he approached the Captain.
Of course, the opposition was just extra incentive for Jake to get creative.
He knew he had Coyote, and he was pretty sure he could confirm a few key Daggers…
The bakery was crowded on a Saturday, but Jake needed to snag a few things for Daydream. Both for a Christmas present and for bribing her to tell him who she’d pulled for Secret Santa. He was debating whether she'd be more willing to tattle over a cannoli or some tiramisu when he heard a familiar voice.
“Yeah, two dozen. Thanks.”
Rooster, as Jake lived and breathed, buying a box of pistachio pizzelles that only one person they knew ate.
Hangman smirked to himself.
Busted.
“How’s my favorite pilot?”
Daydream looked up as Jake waltzed into her apartment. Her face was anything but impressed as she placed Pillsbury gingerbread cookies on a baking sheet.
“I’m not telling you who I have for Secret Santa.”
“Fine. I’ll keep this early Christmas present for myself.” He opened the box to display the dessert
“Tiramisu!”
He chuckled and held it high over his head. “What’s the magic word?”
She crossed her arms and rolled her eyes. “Still not telling.”
“Nope. I think it rhymes with peas.”
Another eye roll that made him crack a smile.
“Please.”
“With pleasure, Dreamgirl.”
She eyed him suspiciously as she accepted the gift before marching to the fridge. Jake was just debating what else could possibly get her to talk when a paper on the counter caught his eye. It was a familiar green color, with a singular name scrawled across it.
Gotcha.
Jake slid into the booth at the Hard Deck. He almost had all his answers, except one. And he knew exactly who to confront.
“Hey Floyd,” he greeted Bob. “You breaking hearts out here on your own?”
The man blinked behind his glasses. “I’ve been sworn to secrecy, Bagman.”
Jake held up his hands. “I didn’t ask.”
“Well, good.”
Jake nodded and knocked back his drink. He scanned the bar and was satisfied to see no sign of Phoenix. No need to have her literally swoop in and snatch Bob away just yet.
“Hope your shopping went well. Fitch must be hard to shop for.”
Bob chuckled. “I don’t have Payback.”
Jake nodded. “Right. Good thing too. I’m sure Fanboy would be easier to buy for anyway.”
There it was. Bob opened his mouth and shut it. It was fast enough to nearly miss, but Jake had spoken to his fellow aviator enough to know what it meant.
“I don’t have either of them. Keep trying, Jake.”
Jake chuckled and waved a hand. “Nah. I’m done guessing this year.”
I don’t need to.
Gifts and beers littered the table that the Daggers huddled around. Penny had replaced the usual jukebox tracks with Christmas music, leaving them with “Blue Christmas” in the background. The squad had elected to dress in civilians, a move Jake was glad for considering the red dress Daydream had broken out for the occasion.
“Alright!” Phoenix yelled to shut the squadron up. “Are we ready for Secret Santa?”
The table cheered, including Jake.
Rooster spoke up and lifted his bottle. “And I want to raise a toas to all of us besting Bagman this year!”
Cheering and clinking followed, until Jake stretched and smirked. This was the best part of the game, to his mind.
“I wouldn’t be so sure about that, Rooster. Who wants me to tell them who their Santa is?”
"Not again." Phoenix's face dropped.
“But we didn’t tell you anything,” Payback said.
Jake shrugged, soaking in the incredulity of his squad. “Didn’t have to.”
“You’re bluffing,” Daydream said beside him.
With a quick swig of his beer, Jake cracked his knuckles and leaned forward.
“I have Coyote. Easy.” He passed over the box he’d wrapped to perfection, which was accepted with a lifted eyebrow.
“Coyote tells me every year, and this time around he got good ol’ Rooster.”
Everyone booed as Coyote sheepishly handed over a box full of vinyls with a bow on the front.
“Oh, come on!” Coyote snatched up his drink. “It’s one name. How could he have figured anyone else out?”
“Was last year not bad enough for you?” Fanboy asked.
“I still don’t believe you know everyone,” Daydream said.
“Fine. Rooster has you. Saw him shopping at an Italian bakery when the most cultural he gets is Del Taco every Tuesday.”
“They make good tacos!”
“Dreamgirl left her paper on the counter when I came over and has Bob. Bob does the mouth thing when he’s lying, making it easy to guess that he has Fanboy.”
Bob sputtered and did the mouth thing.
“Garcia can’t hide cards to save his life, or in this case, a Secret Santa slip. I knew you had Payback from day one.”
“This is why you always lose at poker, man.” Payback shook his head as he accepted a bag overflowing with tissue paper.
“I knew Payback didn’t have me because Phoenix made that special face she keeps just for me when she saw her paper, leaving Fitch to have Phoenix by process of elimination.”
He stuck his toothpick in his mouth and leaned back in his chair as everyone stared at him. Maybe he could be an ace detective in his post-naval career. He was a bit of a genius when it came to deduction, apparently.
Phoenix turned back to the group. “So we leave out Bagman next time?”
“Hey!"

Unfortunately, I was unable to get my contribution to @lewmagoo’s A Lew Magoo Christmas challenge completed before 11:59pm EST on December 24. The holidays completely snuck up on me, and before I knew it, it's Christmas Eve and I only had a mood board completed, and yet I had so much left to do. It is, however, being posted on Christmas, and I am so extremely sorry I missed the deadline.
It was inspired by the Eagles song, "Please Come Home for Christmas." I hope you all enjoy!
Tumblr media
Please Come Home for Christmas by NerdGirlJen
Fandom: Top Gun: Maverick Character: Bob Floyd Pairing: Bob Floyd x reader Word Count: 1,300ish... Rating: G/PG
Summary: Bob’s away from home on Christmas, and he absolutely hates it.
Disclaimer: I do not own Top Gun: Maverick, I just like to play with the characters a bit. I also know nothing about the Navy, Navial aviators, aircraft carriers, so all mistakes are on me because I did very little research. Also not betaed… did you miss the part where real life has been hectic af and I didn’t even start this until late on Christmas Eve?
Warnings: missing family, homesickness, other than those, no warnings.
__________
An aircraft carrier in the middle of the Pacific Ocean was not where Bob Floyd wanted spend Christmas, but here he is sitting in the ship's mess hall waiting for his allotted time to video call home. A bag of peanut butter M&Ms sat before him, open, but Bob was too distracted to eat any of the tasty treats. His mind wasn’t concentrating on the chocolate goodness, nor on the television they wheeled in that was currently playing White Christmas. No, his mind was somewhere else, indeed.
Home.
The one real place he couldn’t get out of his head for the last three weeks at sea. He missed you dearly, and he was wracked with guilt knowing that he should be stateside with you. You were partners, in life and in love, and he doesn’t think it fair to you that he’s not home to help with such a momentous day.
He especially doesn’t think it’s fair to himself that he’s not home to celebrate his daughter’s first Christmas. Charlotte only gets one first Christmas, and it’s killing him that he’s missing it.
Bob doesn’t regret enlisting in the Navy. He’s done some amazing things since beginning his career as a Wizzo, gone to some amazing places, both domestic and abroad, and he’s met some amazing people, as well. However, none of those things, places, or people compare to where his head is currently daydreaming of and where he left his heart behind. So no, he doesn’t regret enlisting, but he sure doesn’t appreciate the timing of the mission he just wrapped up.
“Bobbo, you alright over there?” A voice close to him knocked him out of his thinking, and he turned to face his friend, and pilot, Natasha, looking down at him with concern.
“Oh, I’m alright, I guess” he sighed. “I was just thinking about back home.”
Natasha’s face lit up at the mention of “back home” knowing exactly to whom Bob was referring. He smiled at her exuberance and motioned for her to sit at the table he currently occupied.
“How is my baby?” she asked, excited to hear about her god-daughter’s latest antics. “Lottie still keeping her mom up at all hours of the night wanting to party instead of sleep?”
Bob smiled, remembering the last phase the 8-month-old had gone through. He was still at home for the beginning of that stage, and no matter what you or he did, Lottie didn’t sleep much at all, and so neither of you got much sleep either. Natasha thinks that Lottie has a strong case of ‘fear of missing out’ and doesn’t want to miss anything going on around her, and, unfortunately after a few weeks of restless nights in a row, Bob and you started thinking that the pilot was right. It didn’t matter what the time of day was, but whenever she was awake, Charlotte’s beautiful hazel eyes would look at everything around her so intently and so curiously that Bob wondered if she were trying to solve some puzzle neither of you could see.
“Lottie’s perfect, Nat,” he bragged. “Growing like a weed, and sharp as a tack.” He regaled his friend with her latest antics you told him about over the phone. Just before he deployed, Charlotte had just started to crawl; however, it was on the call he made to you last week that you told him that instead of forwards, Lottie was now crawling backwards with great enthusiasm. Bumping into any and everything along the way. Natasha’s eyes lit up and she laughed, delightedly. “I can’t wait to get home and be able to hold her again. I’ll take the sleepless nights just to be home soon.”
Bob missed his baby girl. He missed you, too, and he was so grateful that the mission he and Natasha had just finished was completed safely and successfully so that he could get home in one piece to be with his girls. If he had his way, he’d not leave the dock again for a long time. Maybe it was time to request he be stationed on land for a while, that way he doesn’t have to be away from you like he currently is.
“Well, I can’t help you be there quicker,” Natasha noted. “I mean, not unless we steal a jet, but I’d prefer to not be court martialed, dishonorably discharged, and face jail time.”
Bob grinned. “Yeah, if I can’t stand spending a month away from them, I know I couldn’t spend twenty plus years away.” Natasha grabbed at the bag of chocolate in front of him and started munching at a few of the candies. She smiled, wistfully, at the melancholy she could hear in her friend’s voice and the faraway look in his eyes.
“Trace!” came a barked shout. “You’re next! Floyd, you’re after Trace.” Finally.
Bob expected Natasha to stand and follow the Info Systems Tech to the conference room they had set up for the day, but Natasha surprised him by calling out to the IST instead. “Sir,” Nat said, “I’m forfeiting my time to Floyd so he can spend a bit more of the holiday with his family.”
Bob’s eyes grew wide, and he grabbed Natasha’s hand to object. “Nat, no,” he started to protest, but the look she gave him told him not to argue with her. It wasn’t a secret to anyone on board the carrier that he had a wife and new kid at home that he loved with every fiber of his being. He was constantly showing photos of the two to anyone who asked or even stood still long enough to chat. Other sailors and officers with families knew and understood where the WSO was coming from because they all did the same.
The IST looked pointedly at the pilot before nodding once and amending his earlier proclamation. “Floyd, you’re up!”
Bob stood, still gaping at his friend – his daughter’s god mother – in shock. “Nat, I don’t know how to thank you,” he sputtered.
“The only thanks I need, Bobby Boy, is a special Natasha/Lottie Day after we get back,” she stated. “Okay?”
“More than,” he was barely able to say as his emotions were overwhelming him. He squeezed Natasha’s hand in thanks, and quickly got up to follow the tech officer. Once reaching the conference room, Bob sat in front of the provided laptop, and gave the IST the number to call.
One ring, two rings, three…
The screen lit up with a small face with a gummy grin that was mid giggle. “Merry Christmas, Daddy!” he heard his wife exclaim through the speakers, but Bob was more mesmerized by the cherub cheeked infant whose eyes sparkled brightly and whose jubilant squeals lightened the WSO up from the inside.
“There’s my girls,” he said, gratefully, beginning his scheduled video chat time.
Now, while Bob Floyd couldn’t be home for Christmas this year, he was happy to receive what little bit of time he could have with you on the screen. He was up for reassignment soon, and he was absolutely going to be ask for fewer, and shorter, missions and deployments. Whether the Powers that Be would grant his request, he didn’t know, but he was certain he didn’t want to spend another holiday being away from you two.
“Tell me, how has Christmas been so far?” He smiled as you started detailing the holiday spent with his parents and family.
Yeah, he definitely couldn’t wait to be home.
___
Annnnd end scene.
Feel free to tell me what you think in a comment. If you think it's completely horrid, keep that to yourself! (Just kidding, all constructive criticism is good constructive criticism.)
Anyway, happy Christmas to everyone. Or Happy Holidays to whatever holiday you celebrate. Love you all!

let your heart be light - Pete "Maverick" Mitchell x F!Reader
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Description: Christmas eve with your boyfriend, Maverick, at the Bradshaw's :D
Content warnings: alcohol (wine), mentions of starting a family, mentions of sex but no actual sex
Word count: just a quick 1k
A/N: this started as a maladaptive daydream and I just had to quickly write it down :)
Tumblr media
“Uncle Mav, Aunt Y/N, come and put cookies out for Santa with me!”
Little Bradley’s voice rang out throughout the Bradshaw household as soon as you and your boyfriend stepped into the home. The kid raced to the front door, crashing into both of you in an attempt to hug your legs at the same time. Carole sighed at her son’s behaviour, but a wide smile was seen on her face regardless.
“Hey, baby Goose.” Maverick leant down to hug the little boy as arms were thrown around his neck. “Someone seems excited…”
“It’s Christmas eve!” Bradley exclaimed.
“I’d never have guessed.” Pete laughed as Bradley let go of him to show off the Christmas pajamas he was wearing. The rest of the house was equally Christmassy. Paper chains, supposedly made by Bradley, were hung around the ceiling. The warm glow from the lights on a Christmas tree flooded into the hall from the main room.
“I’m so sorry we’re late.” You said to Carole, handing over the bottles of wine and bag of food you had brought with you. “The number of cars on the road…”
“Don’t apologise, Y/N! You’re here now, that's all that matters. Just in time to help Bradley with gifts for Santa.” She winked as her son grabbed you and Maverick, a larger hand in each one of his, and pulled you in the direction of the kitchen.
“Mommy and I have made cookies!”
There were indeed about a dozen chocolate chip cookies laid out on a plate on the table.
“How many do you think Santa would like? One? Two? Three?”
“I think Santa may only manage one or two.“ Goose had joined the party in the kitchen. Bradley nodded in his father’s direction and chose the two largest to put onto a smaller plate. Carole and Goose shared a knowing look.
“Milk! We need milk!”
“Has he been this excited all day?” You whispered to Carole, feeling as if the excitement was infectious.
“Try all week.” Carole replied. You chuckled, watching Goose help Bradley pour a glass of milk.
“Mommy, what about the reindeer? They need to be fed too.” Bradley’s eyes were wide and imploring.
“I’ve saved them some carrots.” There was a glint in Carole’s eyes. “Your dad will show you where they are.”
It was only when a complete spread of cookies, a glass of milk, and three carrots (Bradley had wanted nine, one for each reindeer) were put out on the table, that Bradley’s energy started to waver. All five of you were in the sitting room, the adults with full wine glasses, Bradley curled up in between you and Pete on the sofa. His head was in your lap, your hand smoothing through the soft curls on the top of his head. You looked up and over to Pete, who was watching the both of you with the softest expression you had ever seen.
“I think it’s time for bed…” Carole said, as Bradley’s eyes were fluttering open and closed in an attempt to stay awake.
“But I want to stay here!” It was a weak plea as tiredness was evident in his voice.
“But Santa won’t come if you aren’t asleep.” Goose piped up.
“Ok…” He conceded. “But I want Uncle Mav to take me up.”
Bradley sat up from your lap, making grabby hands at your boyfriend. Pete shuffled closer to you on the couch, pressing a soft kiss to your forehead before scooping his God-son up into his arms, Bradley’s cheek squishing into his shoulder. Your heart swelled at the sight. All of you followed Pete up the stairs, watching as Pete gently lay the boy down onto his bed and tucked him under the covers.
“Goodnight baby Goose, sleep well, yeah?” Maverick smoothed his hand over Bradley’s curls. He then stepped back, joining you near the door so Carole and Goose could say goodnight to their son. You lent into Pete, allowing your head to rest comfortably onto his shoulder, his arm around your waist. Carole hooked a colourful stocking over the end of Bradley’s bed. The boy mumbled something that might have resembled ‘Goodnight’, before rolling over to sleep.
The door was closed behind everyone, then Goose said, “Shall we get this party started then?”
+ + +
It was later on, after deciding that following Bradley to bed was a good idea, you were laying with Pete on the Bradshaw’s guest bed. You were content, snuggling into Pete’s warm chest as you lay on your side. One of Pete’s hands was in your hair, fingers tangling within the strands.
“Seeing you with Bradley…” Maverick trailed off, as if lost in thought. You hummed to prompt him to continue. You nestled your head further onto his torso.
“I’m just imagining our children running around on Christmas eve.”
You bit down on your lip before saying, “That’s sweet.”
“Don’t call me ‘sweet’.”
“Cute, then.”
Even in the darkness, you could tell his cheeks had blushed with colour.
“But last time I checked, Mav, we didn’t have any children.” You joked, hoping you could hide just how happy Pete’s musings had made you.
“You do know there’s an easy fix for that…”
“Peter Mitchell, I am not having sex with you at the Bradshaw’s!” Your loud whisper was accompanied by a teasing slap aimed at his chest. You felt his laugh through your own body as he wrapped his arms around you tighter. You squealed as you were pulled on top of him, your legs naturally falling onto either side of his.
“I will kiss you though.” Your voice was low and sultry, lips brushing over Maverick’s in a ghost of a kiss. He met you in the middle, kissing you properly.
“Ok,” He said, moving to kiss your neck, “a new years resolution then.”
"I shall hold you to that, Mitchell."
Merry Christmas guys! 🎄💖

10 films I love
Tagged by @pixlerelish - thanks for the get to know you tag! Honestly, I haven't watched that many films but have been recently getting into them more (thanks, Top Gun Maverick)
Star Wars IV - needs no introduction. I'm a sci fi nerd, to nobody's surprise
Top Gun: Maverick - has planes and gorgeous cinematography in said planes. Features found family and a cocky flyboy who's secretly deep and not-so-secretly angsty. Literally this movie was made to be Starry catnip.
Star Trek IV - the one with the whales. Spock and Kirk running across San Francisco. "Don't forget where we parked"
White Christmas - sentimental favorite
Beauty and the Beast - other sentimental favorite
The Sound of Music - third sentimental favorite. Also Julie Andrews + Christopher Plummer 😍
Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation - I'm gonna be in love with the opera scene for approximately 35 years
I'm completely exhausted right now so I petered out at 7. I feel like I can't remember any other films. Might add to this later 😂
No pressure tagging the one other person I've interacted with on the top gun side of things @lannisterdaddyissues and no pressure tagging a random number of SG friends: @professortennant @delicatelie89 @sententiousandbellicose @justplainmels @formerdetective @spacey-iris @mylittleredgirl @captainstressed @scatterbrained-daydreamer and anyone else who would like to do this!

Tomcat RIO Is A Welcome Escape And A Great Christmas Stocking-Stuffer.
New Post has been published on https://perfectirishgifts.com/tomcat-rio-is-a-welcome-escape-and-a-great-christmas-stocking-stuffer/
Tomcat RIO Is A Welcome Escape And A Great Christmas Stocking-Stuffer.
“Tomcat RIO” is a page-turning F-14 stocking-stuffer.
There’s widespread agreement that America, let alone the world, has rarely been a noisier or more contentious place than it is today. The noise spills over into Forbes’ Aerospace & Defense section. Taking a break is healthy. For those who love airplanes, taking a ride in the back seat of an F-14A Tomcat in the late 1980s is an appealing daydream for the short Holiday afternoons to come.
Dave “Bio” Baranek’s book Tomcat RIO (Skyhorse Publishing) comfortably closes the canopy around the reader, providing a personal look at life in an F-14 squadron, on the carrier and ashore, in the days when the movie “Top Gun” (1986) had turned naval aviators, and particularly Tomcat crews, into rock stars.
The movie’s sequel Top Gun: Maverick was supposed to make a delayed debut in theaters this month but, as with everything else… Covid-19. It’s now slated for release next summer and if the latest trailer is any indication, the F-14 makes at least two cameo appearances.
Top Gun: Maverick (2021) – New Trailer – Paramount Pictures – YouTube
Tomcat RIO is an apropos appetizer since in 1985 Bio actually flew some of the aerial sequences used in the film. Baranek is also a former TOPGUN (now Naval Aviation Warfighting Development Center) instructor and F-14 Radar Intercept Officer (RIO) with 2,500 flight hours and 688 carrier landings in the F-14. The book is the latest in a trilogy detailing Baranek’s career from training through TOPGUN.
In Tomcat RIO Baranek takes the reader along with squadron, VF-2, the “Bounty Hunters” during a 1987 deployment to the Indian Ocean on the carrier USS Ranger. Then, as now, tensions with Iran were high and VF-2 found itself a key part of operation Earnest Will (1987-88) safeguarding international shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. The book follows Bio back home, through a subsequent Ranger deployment and ultimately to his command of F-14 squadron, VF-211 in the mid 1990s.
Lieutenant Dave “Bio” Baranek in his office in the back seat of a VF-2 F-14A Tomcat on the USS … [] Ranger.
The ins-and-outs of the Tomcat, an aircraft carrier, and naval aviation itself are explained in a highly accessible way. A reader with no familiarity with the subject can plunge into the story with no problem.
There’s a sure dose of reality – the danger, hardship, and losses that come with operating a high performance carrier airplane, even in peacetime, are acknowledged. But the author’s focus on the adventure, camaraderie and sometimes unintended humor of it all moves the book along.
Baranek says that while on those deployments the thought of penning a book (not to mention three) never occurred to him. But when he did begin writing, he remembered sitting in the forward Wardroom on his first carrier eating pizza at midnight. A pilot at another table was taking notes.
Dave Baranek has pulled off successful careers as a naval aviator, defense contractor and author.
“Somebody said, what are you writing down? I’m just making notes he said. This would make a great book. Everybody said, Yeah right.”
Hopefully, the note-taker wrote his own account of being in that place in that era. The 1980s were a glamorous and more unified time in the Navy as in the country. Remembering that isn’t trivial and it makes Tomcat RIO all the more enjoyable.
Despite decades of change, Baranek opines that today’s naval aviators “have as much enthusiasm, pride, and confidence as we did.” But he also acknowledges that back in the day he and his squadron mates had an awareness that they were enjoying themselves. “We were having fun.”
It shows in Tomcat RIO. (Available online from Amazon AMZN , Simon & Schuster, Barnes & Noble BKS )

Daydream: Okay, how can I help? What do you need? Hangman: I need nothing. I’m about to fly this mission, meet the President, and sell my life rights to Channing Tatum so he can play my less attractive brother in the ensuing film.
