Holy hell, that is some top god-tier spritework. You've officially canonized my Grubsprite's design.

In fact, I don't even know if this was deliberate, but her wires look a lot like the ones in this picture of Sahlee. Above is the same image, without the shadow layer, and even the colors match.

The idea here is that Sahlee is using her psionics to interface directly with her technology. I like the idea that she's able to 'talk' to Grubmom over the network - they probably play a lot of video games together. Maybe it was Grubmom who told her about the most important video game of all.

It feels so right that DD is the best hacker in the Crew. Those glasses were actually part of Sahlee's as-yet-unseen alchemy binge - and unfortunately for her, he actually knows how to use the computer inside.

I love the Investigator, too. I think the catalyst for her Exile was her association with one particular Dersite - a Battlefield farmer who wished to end this pointless war.

By this point, the Investigator had pilfered several files from the Black Queen's private archives, and learned more than any rank-and-file Carapacian was ever supposed to know. She knew that her friend's uprising would be sabotaged by Paradox Space - so she suggested a more decentralized form of resistance.

Together, they worked on a tell-all news article about the true cost of the War. They didn't pull any punches, either - the article called Derse's entire raison d'etre into question, demanding to know what the Royal Plan even is.

"WHAT HAPPENS WHEN WE WIN, EH?

AIN'T IT KINDA WEIRD THAT THE SUITS HAVEN'T TOLD US?

ALL THOSE BOYS IN MAROON... WHAT ARE THEY ACTUALLY FIGHTIN' FOR?"

It even dared to ask why they hated Bilious Slick.

Anyway, the Black Queen caught the article through the malware she'd hidden in PawnziBuddy, a 'virtual tyrant' that every Dersite is legally required to install. She canned the article, Exiled the Investigator, and turned the tabloid's server rack into a GristCoin mine.

HI also sent a copy to a Prospitian she trusted - but, oddly enough, that archivist vanished without a trace. Prospit is surely beyond the Black Queen's reach, so it was probably just an unhappy coincidence.

Sad, though - that document could have won Prospit the war. It's too bad that the White Queen never got her hands on it.

Swift, quiet steps across the castle corridors, Pleiades wasn't having any of it, Selene struggled to keep up:

"Could we please go a little slower?"

"hm? Oh, sure. Sorry."

That said, he started walking at a more tolerable pace, and so, room after room after room, they finally found Blossom in the kitchen, playing with some other Waddle Dees. Ades walked up to her, he knelt down:

"Hey little flowerling, sorry to interrupt you and your new friends, but we gotta go." The little Dee was confused at first, but a simple gaze in his crimson eyes was enough to send the message "This is a very urgent matter" straight to her soul; she got up, and started Waddling torwards him.

Like clockwork, he caught her just in time and lifted her up all the way to his head, where she gripped on his hair and sat down. He gave a slight nod of goodbye to the Waddle Dees, and so the three left the castle, trying to avoid the Ex-Leader of the Mapop Clan down the hallways.

Outside the castle, Pleiades suddenly asked Selene:

"Aren't you tired?"

"Of what?"

"Of... whatever, forget I asked."

He was clearly thinking about something, he just refused to speak his mind, as always; when he was lost in thought like that it wasn't rare he'd ask random questions to break the silence.

He was quite the enigma to understand for Selene and the others. Only Blossom knew him best, but being the mute toddler that she was, she couldn't communicate with them.

Eventually, Pleiades built up enough courage to talk, he sighed:

"Just... that guy."

"Huh? Who? What are you talking about?" Selene replied, perplexed.

"That Lord Farron, or whatever he wants to be called. I have a bad feeling about him-- Agh, curse my instincts and intuition..." he grumbled.

Selene went completely silent for a few seconds, before mumbling:

"no... your senses are right."

"hm..?"

"he isn't who he proves himself to be, he's a tyrant, a monster, because I--.." she suddenly cut herself off, and inhaled every other word she had to finish her statement. Did she really want her brother to know the truth?

Pleiades was even more disoriented and baffled than before, but he didn't want to push it. After just a few moments of total quiet, he spoke up:

"It's okay, take your time. I'm not going to force you to tell me anything if you don't feel like it. Just wanted to say I don't trust him, that's all."

"No... It goes so much deeper than trustworthiness, you wouldn't... you couldn't....." she struggled to find words, sniffling; now he was even more concerned, he patted Selene's head to provide some sort of comfort as they kept walking:

"..is everything alright?!"

"n-no, not really... it's just....." she now sobbed, trying to explain her case,

"it's the fact that he ruined whatever was left of my childhood, he..."

"I thought he was my father, and I loved him like one, I really did, but he was just so cruel... constantly forcing me to take part in painful and extreme training sessions, and if I failed, he'd just hurt me even more and... I was just so tired.. of everything. I-it felt like I was his weapon more than anything.. and...."

Just then, Pleiades stopped in his tracks, clenching his fists, Selene was scared of what he might've gone to do to Farron with that information, she pleaded:

"C-come on, let's just keep on walking.."

but Pleiades did not move. Instead, he lifted her up and embraced her tightly. He said:

"I'm sorry."

"Y-you don't have to be, it's not your f-fault..."

"I should've known better. I should've..."

"it's okay, r-really..."

Still hugging his little sister, Ades started walking again; Blossom landed on her goggles, trying to comfort her aswell, despite her miniature size. He muttered:

"I swear on the forever life I have I won't allow him to even lay a finger on you ever again."

"T-Thank you.."

"...."

".. would you look at that."

"mh?"

"like I said, the chamomile flowers are in full bloom. Let's all have fun and forget about the past for now."

i plan on rambling about the other twst characters too but that aside:

Clover!reader

They weren’t the best at baking like the rest of the family, which is why they are often outcasted from the family since it was their family business afterall, so it was odd seeing a Clover not good at baking.

This led to harsh comments and insults from their parents, which shattered reader’s confidence in their skills in anything. Suddenly, one particular comment changed everything, “Look at Trey, delivering orders as fast as lightning. You should be more liking him!”

This led reader to start being around Trey often and always asking him to teach them this and that, help them with that and this.. sometimes reader even mimicks Trey, maybe something he does to concentrate, something he always says out of the blue and even when he stretches.

Trey notices this and finds it amusing, not aware of the consequences and what this may lead to, and it isn’t anything good; reader became more dependent on Trey and always thought, “What would Trey do?”

losing their sense of identity and independence, unable to even recognize themselves in the mirror, because all they saw was someone who tried their hardest to be someone their parents wanted them ti be: like their older sibling.

Bucchi!reader (he’s a vice at this point, official or not)

Reader gets accepted into NRC, happy that they’ll finally see their older brother more… why in Great Sevens is he being bossed around by a lion prince?

You know when someone spites or hates someone else because they have something they don’t or living a better life than they are? reader’s mentality.

Reader just wants to live a normal life, making friends and falling in love.. but they can’t have that when people always try to swim away from them since they’re the younger sibling if the infamous Leech Twins

Reader dislikes their family and their last name because of this, causing a rift

Still, their brothers aren’t having it and always smothers them with ‘love and affection’ even though it’s just them trying to embarrass them now that they’re in the same school now!

…say… i wonder when they’ll finally snap back at their brothers?

and finished it ,got dat true ending yes def had a great time on the game 8/10 (but yeah performance def docked some points as well as some writing threads that felt kinda dropped, but am trying to in good faith piece it together in me mind so just gonna ramble spoilers under the cut:

when people said this is what they wanted the original DD to be i can see that but like i feel like the lead up to the game kept hearing people who know more about the originals history talk about how "40-60% of the original vision was cut down" from dd1 and i feel like my brain unfortunately interpreted that as "oh cool so were gonna have 100 new vocations like the monk and 100 monsters and the parallel worlds(technically true☝🏽🤓) and the moon stuff, neat" thats on me lmao but yeah removing those expectations and seeing it for what it is, its def the spirit of the the first game but its systems deeper and more fleshed out not good at all the techny terms but im not very into or good at action games but this one made me want to be cuz the combat was fun haha hmm writing wise there was a point where i felt like everything just suddenly got dropped once the godbane stuff started happening and youre suddenly barreling to the ending while everything else just wasnt important anymore lmao, but trying to interpret the story as a story the pathfinder is weaving, i think its meant to feel like that cuz we see the pathfinder essentially write us out of problems, give us a griffin to escape slavery, gives us a clue to where were supposed to go and the big one he like straight up changes ambrosius mind about giving us the godsbane when it wouldnt make sense for him too, the old man by harve even alludes to this by saying the real world is much messier when hes telling you about how fake everything is, like the watcher said everyone there is there to play a part in a tale hes laid out and i think he wanted to get to the ending faster. It's definitely another layer they added from the first games cycle, but do wish if that is what theyre going for(and if im not delusional lmao) that they did more like the ambrosius thing just watching as he ass pulls us out of dead ends making us feel what rothais felt when he realized all his feats and hardships didnt matter, also just would have liked more sidequests with fun characters lmao.

Also did enjoy the endings of the 3 major peoples in the unmoored world and felt like their side quests really fleshed them out and led them there to their endings well,mostly, very cool idea to bring it all together like that. elves wanted to stay isolated but they needed outside influence to break tradition, to save their tree and how it all built to them agreeing to seek refuge with the other races rather than die with their way of life. Ironic that disa was half right about sven needing to inherit the throne but ofc she was also half wrong cuz she a tyrant and wants him to have it mainly cuz of blood, but he deserves it cuz his sidequests were about him getting to know the common folk and becoming self assured lmao battahl tbh full disclosure i messed up the queen nadias sidequest to the rose chateau, tried to scare the dick head shopkeeper into giving me the medicine for the beastren and got arrested so idk how that one ends(will find out in NG+ lmao) but based on the ones i did do, it seems like the nations whole thing was about always being in conflict with each other and how the unmoored quests there are about making people put there differences aside and band together, including the arisen teaming with phaesus. Also like the irony of their view on pawns being right at first but by the end of the game they end up being wrong. but yeah do feel like they didnt get into that more, along with what the lambent flame is? (googled that there was lore texts you can find that explain how an earlier emperor is deceiving the people about it and what it really does) they also dont go into the fact vermund was a nation of beastren, started by a beastren and then history was wiped?? and how theres vermundians fear of beastren and human children always look like beastren and yet wilhelmina is a direct contradiction of this?? that seemed like a really juicy plot point but they didnt really do anything with it. and lastly idek where to start with the pawn and arisen ending, found out theres slight differences in the affinity ending (got the high affinity one cuz reds my my gurl i always revive run straight to her to revive her🤗) but watching them talk about how happy they are to have their own will while saying theyd still do anything for you filled me with something, dont even know what but was crazy.

oh also before i forget another way its in the spirit of the first game for me is just like in the original i also forgot to talk to the person i was romancing and giving them flowers before the endings and got diff people appearing there just like my first playthru of the dd1 lmfao( got manela with grigori and sara in the true ending, was going for ulrika this playthru lmfao) def gonna NG+, maybe do a magic archer and get the stuff i missed and try and get the other endings. Also hoping for another expansion/dlc like they did with dd1 down the line with more vocations and monsters.

I appreciate how hayeonnim designed literally 4 rupert outfits in the span of 3 panels at the start

Lol Lari realizes how absolutely loaded Rupert is (good for him, she still has not touched a dime of his funds yet for herself)

I like the panel where she squints at the bright sunlight after being cooped up in a dark library for a few hours

I LIKE HOW THIS WAS ADAPTED: Lari's kinda off in her own thoughts thinking about Rupert's situation, how to help him out somewhat while Louis is warning her to stay away from the archives, letting her know that Akan I's child might still be alive (HINT HINT), but she kinda half-responds with "Rupert will still win", as she worries about if him using alchemy will reduce his lifespan... to which Louis tells her that being Emperor is inherently dangerous. Noticing she's distracted, he makes a small comment that he thought Rupert was the only sincere one (as in, unreciprocated feelings), but looks its not... and it's not until Lari takes a few extra steps after Louis drops her off at the entrance of the main palace that she notices he's gone and wonders what he last said

It's implied this is the usual - Rupert still looks for her often :3

BTW I find it amusing that Lari is wearing an off-the shoulder dress this time. In the novel, she didn't start wearing these dresses AFTER they become a couple + the cute detail that during the debutante, Rupert was VERY uncomfortable with her sleeveless dress because her shoulders and back were so bare (HE GOT NERVOUS BECAUSE OF ALL THE SKIN HAHA). He likes Lari in anything anyways, but still :DD

HAHA Rupert's serious face when he says "no. I hate it" (he doesn't like Lari going on long walks with Louis, because that's the excuse she gave for being late) hahahaha

They bicker so naturally, and she's ready to kick him out if there's nothing important hahaha

Basically Rupert tells Lari that he got a message that the Queen/Arnulf is starting to move - they'll have evidence of potential treason soon

Omg its so obvious here, but wow Lari has really grown up and matured. Rupert asks her for her opinion on what he should do: obviously he would rather strike first and kill them ASAP, but he is really considering what Lari wants him to do since she requested that he NOT do that last time (vacation arc). So she tells him to hold off for how, until he has concrete proof of rebellion, then he uses that against them + work on his public image and become a popular, beloved Emperor.

Really, Rupert's getting cuter and cuter, while Lari is getting even stronger.. the two are really changing over time, and they're adopting parts of each other's personalities for the better T_T

At first, there were worries that Lari wouldn't be a good Empress because the story kinda establishes early on she doesn't exactly have the training for it, is quiet, doesn't know politics... she just kinda lives in the palace and helps out Rupert, doesn't have much ability, but here we see she's grown and is able to formulate a reasonable long-term plan to help Rupert succeed in the future and to avoid become a tyrant. The days of ignorance and pure hatred are over ~~ she's looking to the unknown future now aaaa

Rupert finds her incredibly funny when she insulted the "stupid Arnulf" hehe

I love how the two of them are so close now that it's so natural for them to reach out and touch each other's cheeks how in a reassuring gesture. Novel Lari thinks of how she just felt like she had to kinda thing. No thoughts, just comforting ^^

I like how Rupert just accepts that friendly touch and closes his eyes and enjoys the moment. AAAAAA

aaand the chapter ends with a confident looking Rupert because that's how Lari sees him - shining brightly and confident and can overcome ANYTHINGGG I'm happy :D

This is Vera:

Vera, as I mentioned above, is Iris' ancestor from over 600 years ago. Vera lived in Lanny's magic empire, she was always quite the curious one. She wished to see the other empires, and one day visited the Feelings Empire.

After a long time of flying, Vera landed in the palace's garden, where the tree of feelings resided. She just wanted to rest a little, but soon she was seen by Passive and he called for the guards, thinking she was an intruder. Vera got scared and immediately flied away to escape. But Passive couldn't forget about the beautiful lady he saw. He wanted her to be his.

Passive told Nim about Vera, and Nim immediately ordered the guards to find her and bring her to the palace. After a few days, the guards had managed to capture Vera, and she was brought to the palace. Vera explained to the tyrants this was all a misunderstanding, and apologized. But Nim ordered for her to be thrown into the dungeons..

Passive offered Vera to be his slave in exchange of not being thrown into the dungeons, but Vera refused and Passive slapped her in the face. Vera spend weeks in the dungeons. Nim had ordered to let her starve to death down there, but Alphonse and Frieda would go to Vera time to time and bring her food and clothes, and these three formed a good friendship.

Passive would go down and still insist on convincing Vera to be his slave. He was mesmerized by this phoenix's beauty and he wanted to have her all to himself, but no matter his efforts, Vera kept refusing his offers and kept rejecting him. She was disgusted of Passive.

Soon Lanny came in search for Vera, and Nim let Vera go and hesitantly apologized for treating her that way. And things went well, until the wars begun. Vera fought for the Magic Kingdom with all her strength and survived the wars along with the remaining phoenixes from her tribe. She never saw Alphonse again, and was deeply upset about Frieda's death.

Back to Iris:

-Her hero name is Indigo, her phoenix form resembles Vera a lot

-She used to have a small crush on Dream/Yume, the two know eachother.

-Iris had two little sisters and one adopted kid, Passive ended up killing them to make Iris accept him. Iris was forced into a romantic relationship with him.

-Her and Ink have a sibling relationship

-Alphonse found out about Iris being Indigo and once kidnapped the poor woman, and for what?

-Sometimes she cries when she remembers her dead daughter and sisters, and wants to be left alone when she cries. For this reason she got a fake butterfly to scare Passivemare away because she doesn't want him to see her cry- (Yes when I asked Rose what Passive was scared of, she said he was scared of butterflies-)

-There are just a few other superheroes/guardians like Iris, and she is their leader! :DD

-She and the group she leads are called T.M.P or The Multiverse Protectors, because they come to aid other AU's that are in trouble and are a huge help for Ink.

-She comes home late sometimes, her job as a lawyer and the responsibilities as a guardian take a lot of her time and energy.

-Iris tends to be paranoid and anxious sometimes, and the reason she's still with Passive is because she slowly grew attached to this idiot. Basically, Stockholm Syndrome. Iris has none else anymore, only her abuser. But that doesn't mean she will let him take advantage of her 24/7. She's a strong and smart woman, and she does want to get free of Passive.

-Iris believes there's good in everyone, so she puts up with Passive's bullshit and usually tries to talk to him and get his rotten heart to change.

-Passive made her drift away from her teammates and other people in her life. When Dream notices her odd behavior and asks what's wrong, Iris only comes up with excuses and avoids him.

-Passive stalks Iris 24/7 and she can feel his presence, but can't do anything about it.

-When Passive killed her sisters and her adopted daughter, Iris fell into a spiral of despair and depression. Poor woman was miserable. She tried to suicide once to join them, but Passive didn't let her. And she's grateful he did, because she doesn't want to lose against him after all he has done to her.

-Iris finds enjoyment in scaring Passive with the fake butterfly, it's her little revenge.

-Iris knows Swap, she stopped by his AU to help once, and healed his legs with her healing tears.

-Only Alphonse, Passive and T.M.P know Iris' identity as Indigo.

back to ashe - I think the epithets she gives magrias in her inner monologue ("that tyrant", "that terrible king") are a way of reminding herself who he is and what he's done. staying focused on him as an enemy, while everything around her tries to convince her he's her leader. she needs this to centre herself and vent her anger, when she can't express her emotions or have her perceptions validated externally.

Oh, shit, wait - what was that Magnie song you sent me ages ago? Character prediction, the other Scholars working with Magrias will catalyse a crisis of faith for Magnie. I think she'll either leave the Scholars, or drastically change/reform them.
