I hate it when DE fans go "ACAB except Kim Kitsuragi".
No you dumbass, it would completely include Kim. You didn't get the game, you didn't get Kim's backstory, if you seriously believe that.
Like, sorry to break it to you, but Kim has issues with the fact he will always be patronized and discriminated, and one of the reasons is because he is part seolite. He tried to be a revolutionary, except it didn't work out thanks to the puppet state Revachol lives in, so his next best opportunity to be accepted is to be assimilated by the fascist system that is the Police; AND EVEN THEN he is patronized, discriminated, and ignored.
He takes bribes, he has an absurd car paid by the state, he gets mad at Harry for being drunk and drugged on the job; not because that's a bad thing, BUT BECAUSE IT MAKES THE RCM LOOK BAD. He doesn't care if Cuno is an abandoned child that deals and uses drugs, because "it's outside of our jurisdiction". And there's a lot of complex and interesting layers of why Kim is on the RCM, yet none of them are proof that Kim "doesn't count".
EVEN WORSE the game points out that Kim is incredibly conflicted by the fact that he wishes he could do more, the revolutionary at heart that he is, but he CAN'T, and how the RCM is part of that issue. But nuh-uh, y'all refuse to seriously analyze the RCM as a system, because then you would have to face the inevitable allegory that it's to the irl police system; so you just skip all that and go "but Kim is the exception 🥰".

As much as a love Kim, I also think there’s just something so important about Cuno discovering the phasmid with Harry.
The angry little boy who steals away locusts and houses them with the same well meaning (albeit rudimentary) care he extended to Cunoesse. (She too, is a skittish, biting thing far away from home). “Locust City” is such a prime example of the thin line children like him toe between grasping for any opportunity to exert control over the little things they can grasp hold of and the arguably innate comfort found in providing care and comfort to others. The locusts are trapped with him as much as they were in the phasmid traps. As much as Cuno is trapped in Martinaise, in his father’s tiny apartment, in the infuriating prison of adolescence. He can’t control what happens to him. The locusts can’t control what he does to them. Cuno saves them from bait traps and builds them a mud city sheltered out of the cold. He houses his not quite sister, not quite friend and gives her a name when she has none. Cuno’s father terrifies and enrages him in ways he doesnt have the introspection to express properly. So he throws stones at a bloated corpse and tries his best to build a safe haven amongst the trash of that shack and screams awful things at people who dont even spare him a glance anymore.
And then he watches a man only a stumble away from becoming the same angry drunk that sleeps in his father’s bed reach out toward the most terrifying insect he’s ever seen like it’s something beautiful. Something worth paying attention to. A lone creature thats seen so much of the world and still loves living within it anyway. People cared about the phasmid before they even knew it truly existed. Cuno exists too. Why doesn’t anyone care?

god it’s soooo difficult to put into words but like. while lestat’s love and violence and emotional impulsivity could be stifling at times and even dangerous, it was his love and insecurity that was the problem. he didn’t want to keep louis on display, he wanted to love him and be loved by him. of course, problems arose because lestat is both a terrible communicator and has severe uncontrolled abandonment issues and rage and unresolved trauma, but his actions came from a place of deep, deep fear of being alone and wanting someone to love/someone to love him. he wanted to travel with louis, he loved louis for his hobbies, he loved sharing his interests with him and opening up when he could. he wanted him and louis to experience life, the world—together. armand is not like this. he’s obsessed and “in love” with louis the same way you become enamored with a rare bird, a priceless one-of-a-kind piece of art. he’s a thing to keep, to take care of, look but don’t touch, etc. like all of the art in his penthouse. he controls louis’ safety, his eating schedule, his time outside the house (which at this point seems nonexistent). he keeps the books out of reach. he keeps an artificial tree and light and pebbles to placate his deeply depressed lover. he doesn’t want to travel the world with louis, he doesn’t want louis to be out on his own, and he frames it all under the guise of protecting him. louis is reserved and depressed in a way that is so opposed to his depression in the rue royale era. whereas before he was incensed with guilt and anger and fear and grief and sadness, now he seems like an empty shell. his deep well of emotion, even negative emotion, has turned to apathy. and obviously this could very well be caused by claudia’s death and lestat’s disappearance, but armand very obviously is not trying to help louis. in this state, louis is at both his most vulnerable and his most likely to go along with armand’s whims, to sink further and further into that apathy because then his trauma won’t hurt so much. and it just plays right into armand’s hands…..

Ldpdl is not a perfect character or person by any means; he's judgemental, he pimps out women, he's selfish and self centered, he don't listen, he's neglectful in his relationships, and he LOVE white peen. However some white people talk about this man like he killed Jesus with a blunt spoon and ion think that's right

You ever make a shitpost that turns into a full character meta? Anyways: Imogen’s relationship with Pâté De Rolo.
When Laudna first introduces Pâté to the group, Imogen tells Orym that she “never gets used to it.” At first it felt like, this is The Thing. Imogen had already shown that she was down for Laudna’s whole Laudna-ness but it seemed Pâté was the first time Imogen showed a little recognition that something was a little funky. Imogen is down for all of Laudna’s quirks, she doesn’t even bat an eyelash at most of them but Pâté is kind of the one thing Imogen is still tentative about. However, with the added context of later episodes, it seems that Imogen’s relationship to this horny dead rat with a bird skull is actually a reflection of Imogen’s respect for Laudna’s agency.
There’s a blink-and-you-miss-it way that Imogen shows her love to Laudna. You could notice it in small moments but it was hard to put into words until very recently when Laudna’s resurrection ritual made it glaringly obvious. Imogen deeply respects Laudna’s personhood and cares for her agency. Any part of Laudna that she has little to no control over, Imogen won’t be caught dead trepidatious or weirded out by— especially in front of Laudna.
The fact that, of all of Laudna’s Things, Pâté was the only one Imogen gives pause to is important because it’s explicitly not an intrinsic aspect of Laudna. Yes, Laudna created and is controlling him but it’s distinctly Not Laudna. It’s not her body or her spookiness or her ichor or anything else that she can’t control. Pâté is a something Laudna can fully control and that’s why it is okay for Imogen to be hesitant. Her trepidation only is allowed to exist because it doesn’t conflict with her respect for Laudna’s personhood.
And over the span of 30+ episodes, it doesn’t get better. Imogen giggles and engages with Pâté sure, but she is still hesitating, still acknowledging that it’s weird. When Laudna dies and the puppet that gave her pause is tied to Imogen’s belt without a second thought, Imogen protects that horny rat just as Laudna would for a week— its an act of service to Laudna but it doesn’t mean that Imogen doesn’t have hesitation. In fact, it’s still there when Laudna returns and tells Percy about Pâté.
But that changes the moment that Pâté comes to life. There is no more hesitation for Imogen, no side comments or grimaced looks about how weird Pâté is. One minute it is there and then it is gone with one casting of Find Familiar later. She treats the independent Pâté just as she treats Laudna: with a deep and full respect for his personhood.
Under the sun tree? While the entire group is showing even greater confusion about Pâté now that he isn’t puppeted by Laudna, Imogen is giggling and telling Laudna “it’s good, it’s good!”
Imogen doesn’t show any apprehension on her face when Pâté is doing an interpretive dance by the fire. Why? Because Pâté is suddenly an aspect of Laudna that is beyond Laudna’s control. Pâté’s weird comments and mannerisms are no longer active choices made by Laudna and therefore, Imogen’s previous trepidation is no longer allowed to exist. Imogen’s treatment of Pâté is a reflection of the subtle, yet deeply important, ways Imogen cares for Laudna.
It doesn’t really matter whether Imogen’s love for Laudna is platonic or romantic in these moments. Imogen shows Laudna that she deeply loves Laudna by proving with her actions that she deeply respects her personhood. Sure, it is definitely funny that Imogen shows it through her treatment of a horny dead rat with a cockney accent but its also so distinctly them. Those small, silly, almost throwaway moments that have so much more meaning baked in.

It has been such a pleasure over the last few episodes, seeing Ashton embrace the title of ‘hero.’ The moves that they are making are really cementing themself as a leader with a desire to positively affect the world. I love this shade on Ashton, and I can’t wait to see where it goes, though I have been struck with a somewhat worrying/exciting thought.
Not too long ago, I was reminded of Taliesin’s original plans for Percy, that plan being that his story would end tragically. Of course, we know that the story didn’t turn out that way, and Percy is now living in Whitestone with his wife and children. But it got me thinking that Caduceus’ character wasn’t designed with classic tragedy in mind, and also achieved a happy ending. Then I started to consider Mollymauk. Did Taliesin intend for the tiefling to have the tragic end he got? My gut instinct is to say no.
That's how this table came into existence:
Tumblr media
We’ve got a missing spot, don’t we? We’re missing a character that successfully achieves its predetermined tragic ending.
Taliesin has a love for creating characters with questionable and self-destructive coping mechanisms. Percy and his affinity for making deals with demonic entities and creating weapons capable of untold destruction, Molly and his hedonism and indulgence of drugs, alcohol, and mischief, and even Caduceus’ repression and ignorance towards anything that makes him uncomfortable. Ashton Greymoore is no exception. Their anger, gambling and alcoholism are all one big coping mechanism for their childhood and chronic pain.
Part of me believes that this hero mentality has become another coping mechanism for Ashton to abuse. By stepping up, Ashton has been lifting the burden of leadership from other party members, the notable cases being Laudna, Orym, and FCG. He’s been encouraging them to explore their emotions, and ever since the Solstice, he has made himself the person they can lean on for support. Ashton wants to be a hero, even if it’s at the expense of their own well-being.
Ashton has made it clear on multiple occasions that their chronic pain is handled better under greater pressure, and soft, delicate touches cause them far more discomfort (even if the softer touches lead to less trouble in the long-term). But the problem with becoming a ‘rock’ for others is that Ashton must put himself under immense emotional pressure. While they may handle it far better in the short-term, that tactic is going to cause more damage the longer they indulge it. I feel like the lyrics of ‘Heroes' by Emmy Curie best describe my feelings on the matter:
"But you’re forgetting the thing about heroes, kid, they always have to fall"
(For the record, the song is simplistic but pretty, and I highly recommend listening to the whole thing. The lyrics apply to so many characters, and not just from Critical Role)
While I love this arc for Ashton, part of me is left wondering if Taliesin has been building up this character for the purpose of falling even further. Is Ashton going to achieve the tragic ending that Percy was deprived of? Will he be the one to occupy the final quadrant of that table?

The newest installment of the Cult AU was so amazing and gratifying! I do have to ask about Dipper's reaction when Bill suggested that next time he hide *in* his bed - should we assume that Dipper just truly doesn't think there's any possibility that Bill would want him like that, or does it potentially reflect some truly non-existent sex ed within the cult? Did the cultists have relationships like that within the cult?
I hope you post this AU and your other shorter works on AO3, id love to be able to bookmark and comment.
Thank you for your kind words!
Dipper's reaction was mostly because the cult had sub-par to non-existent sex ed. Though to be fair, even if he was aware that Bill was, ahem, an option, he definitely wouldn't think there's any way he'd want Dipper like that.

The way Marisha and Taliesin recoiled at the idea of Keyleth and Percy being in a sexual relationship was amazing.
And the solid belief of both Taliesen and Marisha that neither Kiki and Percy would ever touch each other in a sexual, except if Vex was involved.
But also, I love Marisha brought up the chilliness between Percy and Kiki! I love that it’s a little because they’re both being formal, playing good cop and bad cop, AND there might have been frictions between Percy and Kiki.
Taliesin is still of the idea that Percy can still be a little too bloody minded and that despite being best friends, Keyleth and Percy still have some arguments.
They are both leaders of their own respective places and sometimes what Whitestone prioritizes can be against what Zephra needs.
Also Percy being the Bruce Wayne from Batman Beyond. Amazing.
I also love Marisha clocked that Ashton was way too quiet when Laudna returned. Both Marisha and Tal are excited to have another one on one with each other.
And honestly, I look forward to both of Laudna’s interactions with Imogen and Ashton equally!
But also Taliesin’s knowing: “fRieNd???” when Marisha called Imogen Laudna’s friend.
You know he wanted to poke on that more.
But gah, everything’s reset back to zero for Laudna. She has a lot to work with to regain the certainty she lost about herself.
The good thing is this go around, Laudna is no longer alone to do it. She’s no longer like Tom Hanks in Castaway making imaginary friends.
She has real people willing to help her.
I am so EXCITED for everything.
