A thingy I made for a cabin war in Scratch Writing Camp last November.

What all Pokemon Special dexholders (not all characters, I'm not that crazy) would do best in school, a comprehensive list. Minus Shilly and Sou because I haven't read Sword and Shield yet, but plus the Pokemon Diamond and Pearl Adventure characters (Jun, Mitsumi, Hareta, and Koya) because I care about them a whole lot. Also this might be really out of character, but if it is I don't even care because I NEED TO FINISH MY CABIN WAR PLEASE I'M CRYING SO HARD. (Not really crying don't worry.)

Red: I think that Red would do the best in gym class. He wouldn't do badly in other classes or anything, he'd just be much better at a physical activity class like gym. He would probably have a bit of trouble with certain activities (like the ones that have him using his hands more than his wrists are ready to handle), but he'd generally be very good at the class. He's the type of guy to be picked first or almost first by the other students whenever they have the chance too, but he's just as much the type of person to be a team leader. His momentary struggles with his hands do nothing to change this, he's just very good.

Blue (male): Blue would be good at every class from gym to general music to chemistry and back again. I think he'd be the best at classes that are more centered on working on his own than with a group, but he isn't much better at any one subject than all the others. He just trains himself to be better, that's all. (Besides, he's good at focusing on his training, and he's just as athletic as any other dexholder, which immediately makes him good at school in my eyes.)

Green (female): I am of the belief that Green is much smarter than the lets on, even in the later parts of canon when she starts to drop her mask. (Both literally and figuratively, thanks to the Mask of Ice situation.) But I think that the class that she would really excel in would be health and sewing. She seems like the type of person who would be good at health, thanks to surviving on her own for quite a while, and she canonically likes sewing. (And besides, the image of Green sewing and getting graded well on it makes me really happy.

Yellow: Given that Yellow is the series' biggest artist, I think that it is only fair to make her the best at art class out of everything she is taking. Sure, it would be awesome if I could say that she was the best at math, or writing, or something funny like that, but it would be a lie. I mean, her improvement through the series (otherwise seen as her several different art styles) show a 'mastery' of art that none of the other characters have.

Gold: I invite anyone who disagrees with me on this to fight behind the nearest Pokemon Gym, but Gold would be the best at the types of classes where you learn how to take care of children. He would for sure pretend that he prefers other classes, but no matter how much he loves gym class, he is the best and (and enjoys) child care class the most. He would even do the 'take a robot baby / an egg home' assignment more than once, if he could.

Crystal: Like Red (grass types stick together, I guess), I think that Crystal would enjoy gym class the most. But unlike Red, it is a close tie between science and gym. Something like Biology or Earth Science (but admittedly not Chemistry or Physics) seems to be her style. She loves catching animals for data, so dissecting a frog or learning about different kinds of rocks in the earth sounds right up her alley.

Silver: I don't think Silver would like school very much. And though I could end his note right here, I think it's fair to mention that I think he would like art class more than most would expect. Sure, he's not very good at it (though he excels in every math class he gets), but it makes him happy, and isn't that all that matters? Plus, I bet he and Gold share art class, and Silver isn't exactly as upset about that as he pretends to be.

Emerald: Emerald would like the classes that he shares with Crystal, but I don't think he'd like science class the same way she does. Honestly, I don't think he'd prefer one subject over another, only basing his favorite classes on who is in the class with him and who is the poor soul teaching him. He'd sarcastically say that his favorite class was recess, even though he doesn't even have it anymore.

Ruby: Ruby would like the same class as Green, if you ignore the health class on that list. He'd like sewing, interior design, arts and crafts, cooking, all of the sorts of things that the specific class I'm talking about tends to have. (I honestly don't know what it's called though, maybe home something?) He also likes being the center of attention, and being good at things in a class tends to get you that, and I am of the belief that he would be impressively good at at least most of the things that that sort of class would be aiming to teach. (The only thing that he would like more would be a makeup class, but as far as I know that doesn't exist.)

Sapphire: Sapphire likes gym class well enough, and she likes science also, but mostly she likes lunch. (Which is so valid to be honest.) Even if she forgot to bring a lunch and is forced to buy from the lunch ladies (a travesty to be sure), she enjoys it. She likes talking to Ruby, and because I think she would be unlucky enough not to be in a single class with him, this is her only chance to.

Wally: Wally would be good at Health class, because he's a caring boy and also has a lot of his own health problems to worry about, leaving him fairly well informed on the subject, but he wouldn't necessarily enjoy it. There'd be too many "jokesters" in his class (you absolutely know the ones I'm talking about if you've ever been to a high school health class, heck, even a middle school one will do it), and he'd find it hard to focus on what the teacher was telling him. But at the same time, there isn't really a class that he likes more.

Diamond: Diamond likes the same class as Ruby! Or, rather, he likes cooking class. (Which is an advanced form of Ruby's favorite class, kind of.) He also enjoys public speaking class, but even since he and Pearl were separated in said class, it lost most of its charm, leaving him with the former tied class to be the undisputed favorite. He's good at cooking, he enjoys eating (what a valid little guy), and the teacher always gives him something new and interesting to try.

Pearl: Pearl, even after being split up from Diamond (you don't even want to KNOW what trouble the two of them stirred up before hand), still has public speaking as his favorite class. He also likes the few music classes he takes, but for him, nothing quite captures the charm of the horribly awkward public speaking room. (Especially because he easily steals the show, every single time, without fail.)

Platinum: Platinum is good at pretty much every class she takes, much like Blue, but she gravitates heavily towards language classes. In fact, she even took a special plan from her guidance counselor to get her into ALL of the language classes. She's learning Kalosian ("French"), Unovian ("German"), Galarian ("English"), and has her eyes set on the new one as well. ("Spanish").

Black: Black doesn't pay much attention to what is actually happening in the classes he takes, therefore not really having a favorite, but because he's so good at setting his mind to things (and wanting to be the best he possibly can), he ends of being good at pretty much everything. Unfortunately though, his loudness doesn't exactly make him a favorite among the teachers, and he mostly ends up in trouble, even if he is truly good at the subject. (Which, of course, he almost always is.) Because of this, his favorite has to be gy class, because kids are sort of meant to be loud in gym class, at least some of the time.

White: White doesn't much like any specific class, but she sure does enjoy the drama club! In fact, she started the school's drama club, quickly forcing two younger students (Blake and Whi two) to join along with her. She doesn't act all that often, but she serves as a great club manager, even if she's not a teacher.

Blake: Blake doesn't share this sort of information with anyone, and depending on the person asking (and even what the setting is), his answer will change. He does have an odd draw to talking to girls in the hallway though...

Whi two: She likes the baby class along with Gold, but she would really rather if it was about small animals instead of babies. She liked history too, which nobody expected, until they got into a unit that spoke about cults and she was forced to confront a little more about herself that she was really ready for at the moment. But once they get out of that unit, she's fairly sure that it will replace the child class as her favorite once more. (There's only so long a class shared with Gold can stay your favorite.)

X: X wouldn't like school, so I think it's only fair to discuss his least favorite class rather than his favorite one. (His favorite one is whatever one has the least amount of presentation work, he just can't seem to make himself do it.) I think that his least favorite class, like many other high schoolers, would be public speaking. He wouldn't be BAD at it, at least not worse that the other people in the class with him, but for a required class, it sure is bad for people with obvious anxiety and people related trauma disorders.

Y: Y, like X, wouldn't like school all that much. She likes the concept, she likes hanging out with friends, but she just can't seem to find a subject that really peaks her interest. Plus, getting bullied is never fun, and the one time Y was shown at school in canon (which is, humorously enough, a lot more than pretty much any other character) she was getting bullied. I would hope the trend not to continue in this AU, but sometimes there's nothing you can do about it.

Sun: Sun would probably like personal financing class the best, and he (this is totally off topic but I need to say it) would probably be the first person in a personal financing club. He may no longer NEED to collect the ridiculous amount of money that he was in canon, but who knows, maybe his years and years of nearly non-stop working ignited something in him. Though he doesn't really seem like the type of person to like school in general, so maybe it's a reach.

Moon: Being ridiculously smart, Moon would be good at pretty much every class she has to go to, but I think she'd be the best at the science (specifically chemistry) classes. Why? Well, if you know anything about Moon, you'll know that she is very very into medical things, and for a high school (not sure if it was clear, but that's where I've been basing most of this list) chemistry is about the best you're gonna get.

Mitsumi: Mitsumi likes the sorts of classes where she can relax and focus on her studies. Unfortunately, her former favorite class (Band) is no longer fun, not ever since the conductor changed and the only other Bassoon player left for Trombone.

Jun: Jun likes whatever class that he can show off to Mitsumi in. It literally does not matter the subject.

Hareta: Hareta doesn't like the controllingness of school, and even though he's really nice to all of his teachers and fellow students, he spends so much time in detention that it has become a favorite class of sorts for him. (He doesn't understand what about it is supposed to be a punishment, really.) He liked gym, until it set in that they weren't going to do anything fun or difficult for him, any even though he still likes it (he likes every class well enough), it's not longer a favorite.

Koya: He's too secretive to know for sure, but I think he'd probably like classes that are generally considered difficult. Physics, Trigonometry, Chemistry, AP language, those sorts of things.

well having caught up with pokespe swsh i can say that it’s fairly entertaining but super rushed pacing wise, which. i guess is sort of a given with modern spe.

i didn’t play the galar games but i liked some of the gym leaders via osmosis so i was hoping to see them fleshed out a little here, but there’s not really much time for that. due to having 3 rivals things seem even more stretched thin than usual. even sou and schilly end up feeling... off, like neither of them are quite complete characters. i don’t think they’ll be remembered very well in the history of dexholders. but it’s still consistently fun to read.

Fic idea: Don't care why, don't care how, but all the dexholders must face some sort of challenge, but the version of each who is there is them waking up after the first time they slept after registering into their Pokedex. This means:

Red has met Green once and that's it.

Green doesn't know anyone; at most he has vague memories of the search parties for Blue right after her kidnapping.

Blue knows Red and Green and has been through the Silph Co. raid with them and seen their championship match. She's used to Silver still being like 8.

Yellow has met everyone up to Crystal and is now older than any of them. Crystal and Silver have heard of her but that's it. From her perspective, Red just had Deoxys throw her and Mewtwo into a warp hole to get them off Team Rocket's airship.

Gold and Silver have only just met, Silver doesn't think much of Gold and Gold is still trying to get Totodile back from Silver. Silver knows Blue and knows of the other Kanto dexholders, but is used to them as being much stronger.

Crystal doesn't know any of these people. She's heard of the exploits of the Kanto group, and that's it. As far as she's concerned she's just set out on her capturing mission.

Sapphire doesn't remember Ruby and has not made the bet with him yet. All she knows about the other dexholders is that one of them became champion when he was 11.

Ruby doesn't remember Sapphire from childhood, but has made the bet with her and made her clothes (which, from her perspective, she hasn't received yet).

Emerald knows Crystal and knows of the others. He's still distancing himself from Pokemon and last he heard, the Kanto group and Silver were statues.

Dia and Pearl have just met Platinum and don't know her name, because of the Bidoof incident, Chatler hasn't had time to tell them of the Missy/Lady/Ojou-sama thing. Platinum thinks they're her bodyguards. They may be aware in passing of the older dexholders.

Black doesn't know anyone personally, though he probably knows a decent amount about RGB because of their participation in the championships, and might have watched the Battle Frontier tournament the first 10 were in. He and White are now the oldest of all the dexholders, at 14.

White has been traveling with Black for several months now and has only recently parted ways for the Battle Subway. She doesn't know any of these other people.

Blake might know Blue, depending on their professional relationship in InterPol and has at least an overview of the other dexholders. He has just met Whitley and suspects her of being in Team Plasma.

Whitley knows Blake as a classmate and that's it. She only knows about Pokedexes as tools for oppressing Pokemon. She may have heard of Black as being involved in the fight with N before Team Plasma went into hiding.

X and Y don't know who any of these people are and have just had their hometown destroyed and been attacked by Team Flare. X is still not interacting with anyone.

Sun probably knows of at least the first 10 dexholders as legendary trainers, since he grew up in Kanto, but he probably hasn't met them. He's known Moon for a few days.

Moon has known Sun for like a day and a half. She knows the Sinnoh trio... but as much older than her.

Sou and Schilly are about the same, though Schilly hasn't gotten any of her memories back yet.

Wally, Cheren, and Bianca might be there. I don't remember the details quite that well, but Wally definitely knows Ruby and Cheren and Bianca know Black and may or may not have met White yet.

For bonuses, they have their Pokemon in whatever state they were when they first joined the party of someone with a Pokedex/ their trainer first got a Pokedex. Ex: Pika is still an angry little thing and Vee is still an Eevee because that's how they were when Red caught them, but Poli is already a Poliwhirl because he was already evolved when Red got his Pokedex.

Abso-goddamn-lutely. Even the anime tackles themes like death and grieving that Spe won’t touch. It’s an action anime and it acts like it, but it’s no Berserk

YEAH. FRLG had Blue do next to nothing in the finale despite having the most at stake, SwSh has all of Schilly’s battles skipped thus far and none of Sou’s, and SM had one of the most complex and interesting female dexholders to date locked in a fucking dog cage for half the finale. Let the girls do shit I’m tired of these bland ass dudes /s

Pryce is one of those villains who seems cool before you know his motive but then you figure out you’re supposed to be sympathetic and it’s very ?????? Bc there was literally no reason to go to 11 like he did. It reminds me a little bit of the my little pony villain thing where a character loses a friend and like... tries to take over the world or start a cult or whatever they do over there. The motives don’t even begin to explain the actions so it just feels weird

There are so many backstories that are just totally unexplained and I want some damn details. Lack being a child soldier? Emerald meeting two legendaries? Whitley being in a cult? Yellow having untapped magical powers? We get NO INFO ????? Kusaka pls I just wanna know

Combining these bc they’re abt the same thing. Idk who ur hanging out with but idk anyone who says Sun is one-dimensional, only static (which is true, he doesn’t change at all throughout the story). However, having bad writing and no development doesn’t make him a bad character, just a poorly written one. He’s a good character and you can love him, but having more than one personality trait doesn’t make him a well-written character. Same applies to Moon but these are mostly abt Sun so

Also if you’re gonna complain abt flanderization in fanon, that isn’t a character specific problem, that’s just.... a thing that happens, as annoying as it is

More SwSh Pokespe Ramblings/Theories:

1) Looking back on chapters like DP, having two protags starting out on such good terms means there's gonna be an eventual fight between them around halfway through- very interested to seeing how it goes. Which also reminds me- I wonder how the fight between them to see who gets to challenge Leon will go?

2) I wonder who will endorse Hop, if at all? I'd love for the manga to go more in-depth on the people who can give endorsements, since we know Rose, gym leaders, and Leon can do it. Maybe Hop was just endorsed prior to the start of the chapter.

3) Thanks to other people for pointing this one out- Sou's reaction to Schilly's short-term memory loss means that he knows more than she does. I'm hoping we get a flashback chapter behind this and how they met! (Fun fact: Gold is the only dexholder who's never had a flashback of his childhood!)

4) Sou likes to name his Pokemon after tools, huh? My prediction for Sirfetch'd's (???) English name is gonna be Lancelot, though I've been disappointed before! Gurdurr's gonna be tough cuz it's English name is already what it holds- mayber Beemer for "Steel Beam"?

1. Why do you like or dislike this character?

Ever since I saw the concept sketches for Schilly posted as the swsh arc was starting i knew i was gonna love her ^-^ We sooo needed a goofy girl dexholder. Not only that but she's such a sweetie pie and also just silly in her arc, I love her personality

I don't really dislike anything about her per se, although I do see one of her weakpoints being just too nice 😔 Aka the time when she hesitated to criticize Sou because he never pointed out things she saw as flaws in herself. but that;s a whole other post i can write

12. What's a headcanon you have for this character?

I always thought that those blank spells that she got throughout the arc were absence seizures. Also, I hc her as autistic

Dexholders scored by their willingness to kill

0/5= Would rather die than kill someone * 1/5= Would kill to protect themselves or loved ones from death * 2/5= Would kill to protect themselves or loved ones from harm * 3/5= Would kill in the heat of the moment * 4/5= Would kill out of hatred towards the target * 5/5= Would kill if they could justify it to themselves

No dexholder scores above that, so I’m just gonna cap it there

Red: 2.5/5- He could get close to going over the edge, but would inevitably stop himself and feel horrified that he even thought of killing someone outside of an absolutely desperate situation. Even in one, he’d feel guilty, even if he knew he didn’t have another choice.

Green: 1/5- Had a higher killing intent as a kid, but has since calmed down and would now more likely sacrifice himself to save someone than kill to do so

Blue: 2/5- Even if she’s thought of killing, she couldn’t make herself actually do it, and she feels guilty for wishing for someone’s death once she’s calmer. While she could kill to protect someone, it would probably trigger another trauma response from her.

Yellow: 5/5- She’s already tried it. Twice. And threatened to kill another three guys. Sird is lucky she got distracted by Red’s battle before she could come for her. It’s not that she wants to kill, per se, or that it’s her first solution, but she certainly won’t hesitate if provoked and won’t feel bad after.

Gold: 2/5- I mean, he did drop Pryce in the time vortex for what, for all he knew, could be eternity. But in general, he’d rather knock some sense into an enemy and then forgive them.

Silver: 0.5/5- Acts tough, but he could hardly kill someone to save himself. He holds out hope for even the worst people. The worst he can get is angrily wishing someone would die in an accident, which he then feels bad about.

Crystal: 2.5/5- Only reason this isn’t a 2/5 is because she’d probably kill to protect a stranger from harm rather than just her loved ones, especially if the stranger was a child.

Ruby: 4.5/5- Full on 5/5 during RS but has since calmed down... slightly. He’d feel guilty after the fact, though.

Sapphire: 0.5/5- Way too empathetic to kill except accidentally, and even that would traumatize her for a good while.

Emerald: 1/5- In his first arc he pretends to be a 3/5, but he’s actually way too soft for that, plus his role model is Crys, who wouldn’t want him to kill.

Diamond: 0/5- He’d much rather sacrifice himself before ever trying to kill someone (nevermind that you probably can’t actually kill him,) no matter how vile they are.

Pearl: 3/5- Split chance on whether he’d sacrifice himself or attack under duress, but if he did attack, he’d probably go all out. Definitely feels guilty after.

Platinum: 1/5- It’d probably be an accident, but she could still do it. She’d rather injure than kill.

Black: 2/5- Generally believes in people too much, but could potentially be provoked. All of Unova gets bumped up because most sensible people would murder Ghestis given the chance.

White: 2/5- She knows what she stands for and who she’s loyal to.

Blake: 5/5- ...But with a big footnote that in his case it’s more a lack of being against killing than any desire to kill. He wouldn’t kill out of anger, but rather because he thought it was the expedient choice. Might find himself questioning his decision later and trying to convince himself that he was right, though.

Whitley: 2/5- I can see it. She thinks she’s a 0/5 but she’d probably kill if desperate and panic for a week after.

X: 5/5- Already threatened to kill Emma. He’s got a lot of hatred and anger pointed at himself that could easily be released onto someone else if provoked. Might calm down some in the near future, now that he’s not constantly dwelling on his negative emotions.

Y: 4/5- Has way too much built up anger that she’s used to venting and is easily provoked. This would start a cycle of self-hatred that she’d end up venting on others and then hate herself more. Might calm down some in the future now that some of her relationships with those around her are repairing themselves.

Sun: 0/5- Hasn’t even thought about it. He’s just too... mild to try it. He’d try to escape or stall an enemy rather than kill it, even in dire straits.

Moon: 0/5- She’s a doctor at heart. The closest she could do is euthanasia, and it’d still break her heart.

Sou: 5/5- No hesitation Kidding, we haven’t seen enough of him for me to score him.

Schilly: She wouldn’t necessarily try to kill someone, but she might not feel more than a sense of “oops” if something she did happened to lead to a death. Haven’t seen enough of her to judge any more than that.
