Really loving the different approaches they're taking to the character perspectives every episode. The tweeting was excellent, and it suits Nick's character best given his situation.
I was a bit worried before that Nick would pine after Boston, but it wouldn't be the most believable. I've come away from this episode understanding how Nick could feel so betrayed by Boston though, despite already knowing Boston's reputation. Boston does a remarkable job of being sweet to Nick and course correcting anytime he says anything that upsets him. It helps that Nick seems relatively easy to manipulate given that he is such an open book--seriously, he cannot hide his feelings in the slightest.
Side note, but Boston's attitude towards Nick strikes me as outright manipulation, while Ray's attitude towards Sand is just genuine infatuation. Boston wants to take any steps necessary to make Nick stay, doing just enough to appease him. I think Ray's behavior could be read as manipulation (re: the puppy eyes), but that would imply that he's making the intentional decision to portray himself in ways that will pull Sand in, regardless of how deep his feelings really are.

Are there any gem tears that are radioactive?
Sorry for the late reply, I meant to sketch one for this but didn't 💀
I didn't think of them like that BUT I'm not gonna discard it. Depending on where they emerge they may as well contain some (tbh this could apply to any gem).

I guess that kinda depends on what you mean? Like how much is going to be referenced and “are you going to post it anywhere”
If youre planning on like, redrawing a whole picture of mine and posting it somewhere, I’m okay with that as long as you remember to link back to me. So like, dont do this.
Tumblr media
But if youre like “oh hey- this picture was originally drawn by this other weird guy” Im okay with that.
Tumblr media
But if youre not redrawing something of mine of course you can take general inspiration from the way i do things! I dont mind that at all. (And you dont have to say it comes from me or anything like that. I just want credit if its a redraw specifically is all).

ok also you know how people say one of the ig things that happens the older they get is they stop giving a fuck? well i feel like that’s so true and that’s why the show needs to go back to casting more older people! like some of the most iconic and dramatic (in a good fun way) people have been older players and the show has been severely missing that energy when they cast all people in their 20s and like 1 in their early 30’s half who are trying to be influencers and half who are still learning how to be ok with not people pleasing you know?

I keep thinking of those two lines from The Moon Will Sing (in a good way cuz that song isn’t as happy as I thought it would be)—
The moon will sing a song for me
I loved you like the sun
as Tubbo and Ranboo from the event horizons series.
Kind of specifically as Ad Astra and De Terra respectively, but overall with Ranboo as the Moon and Tubbo as the Sun(ofc) because Ranboo keeps showing how good of a person he is at heart and that he cares for Tubbo and is the companion he needed in deep space, plus the bit that says “for me” specifically and Tubbo is Ranboo’s one and only; meanwhile Tubbo brings brings light and life to Ranboo’s world and sorta how the moon reflects the sunlight to glow, was the person who brought the good person out of Boo when it had been squashed by Annwyl. Not to mention of course, that image of Ranboo and Tubbo that he keeps going back too on the jungle planet I forgot the name of where he’s holding Tubbo and compares it to holding a star or rays of sun in his hands.
I also think it fits perfectly because the moon and the sun are completely separate entities, sufficient without each other though notably lacking, the way the boys were before they met, especially seeing as how dark Ranboo was and ofc the moon without the sunlight, but the point being that they aren’t halves, they are their own whole being, same with the moon and the sun. However, sun and moon have always sort of been seen as two halves, yin and Yang, dark and light, two matching celestial entities because both are necessary to sustaining life on earth. They feed off of each other and show off the best about the other because they are opposites, and things always feel a bit incomplete without both of them. Similarly, (particularly through the concept of marriage) two whole people come together to form a better whole, they’re meant to bring out the best in the other and do what the other can’t/be the support the other needs when they’re struggling. A partner to cover your weaknesses and boost your strengths and that’s exactly how EH!Tubbo and Ranboo are
(I could keep rambling about the similarities bewtween EH!beeduo and sun/moon dynamic, I won’t here but please ask me too)

What is your definition of canon? I saw a few on the list who canonically have feelings for each other but are never in a relationship
honestly i'm willing to hear cases being plead for those (and if you submitted something like that and I took it out before posting the list you can appeal i'll hear it out, i think there might have been one or two the descriptions made it sound like they aren't canon but I wasn't familiar so feel free to correct me) since I just let Oliver and James slide
by specifying canon I was more trying to avoid stuff like: I got a sam/frodo submission which is funny because I know they aren't even if they should be but uh less ideal to get things like that when I don't know the source material and i'm sifting through over 200 submissions by myself. was also trying to avoid word of god style canon which i got at least two of and removed because a lot of people are using this blog as a book rec space and putting it in because the author said but didn't actually put it in the book seems a little misleading
if there is explicit romantic or sexual intent between both/all parties involved i think I'll generally let them in so like a canonically queer relationship between them not really up for interpretation. Like someone submitted Crowley/Aziraphale who i ship and think can easily be interpreted as a couple. But they are not explicitly stated to see each other in such a way so they do not count. Vs like Neil and Andrew never define their relationship but there is no way around the fact that they have one (despite Andrew saying this is nothing lol) because while they don't say boyfriends they do explicitly show in text romantic and sexual intent towards each other.
Basically text over subtext is primarily what i'm aiming for when i say canon if you don't wanna read all of that.

anon I don't know if you're the same person or two different people, but the specialness of this show sure has opened up new pathways for interconnectivity between us all huh
(I say this as a new watcher, and I also mean that some person watched all of this from 1972-1983 and felt some kind of way and maybe didn't talk to anyone about it and isn't alive anymore and that person is as much a part of the interconnectivity as the rest of us, so it's not "new" in that sense, so much as it's a newness to me specifically)
(it's that thing where I'd write something about something, with some feeling like "surely... surely this has been seen by others, right?" and fully expecting it to be a handful of people on this webbed site perhaps, but then somebody sends me a quote from a book written in 1989 explaining the exact same phenomenon, and here we are 50 years on, 39 years on, 33 years on and someone totally green to the experience is feeling the same kinds of things all over again, and the story is being told once more for the first time to all of us)
(now that's the power of story-telling babey)
(and there are so many stories with this sort of potential out there, but I haven't had this experience in this way before. I am holding it in my hands and gazing at it, wondrously)

Anyone who tries to shame KinnPorsche for having too much (queer) sex in it can fck right off. I don't know it's a show about queer men being young and in love who are attracted to and horny for each other. Including queer sex ≠ fetishizing queer sex. Nobody ever screams fetishizing when straight characters have sex. No matter how unrealistically attractive they are our how daring the sex is. If that's something they want queer people do indeed have sex. It's natural and it shouldn't be such a big deal to have that reflected in media🤷
Plus there are so many non sexual moments in the show too that people loved & adored. Idk but acting like kp was all about sex (again queer sex ≠ bad) just also rubs me the wrong way

describe what love is to you and who represents it in your life
why does this remind me of being in primary school?
...what was I saying?
anyway uhhh idk how to explain it really it's just. It's not really an emotional thing it's just... safety and support? Like I want a nice warm burrow that all my friends can curl up inside while I make them soup. Like a badger or maybe a hobbit. That's what love feels like.
I guess the first person that comes to mind is my dad? idk how to explain it I think I just kind of... learned how to love from him. My mother is wonderful also of course, but like... she's a lot more overtly affectionate, which doesn't really resonate with me? I'm not really a very affectionate person - for me love is about ultimately being trusted to help shoulder the burdens of the people I care about with an unconditional lack of judgement.
I'm struggling to explain it but like... when I talk about understanding and a lack of judgement I don't mean agreement. I want what's best for my loved ones, and sometimes that means helping them be aware of their flaws and giving them the support and tools to grow as a person

Okay, full disclosure, I started watching Hocus Pocus 2 several days ago and then paused halfway through to watch Interview With the Vampire instead, and I'm only just now resuming it (because Pretty Much It just posted their video on it, and I want to finish the movie before I see their take on it), but uh...
I feel like the editor of this movie maybe doesn't know how a Gilligan Cut works?
Like, they have a scene that ends with Winnie going "Oh, please! Who would be stupid enough to lead three witches to the mayor?"
Clear setup for a Gilligan Cut to exactly who would be that stupid.
It cuts to the protagonist girls, and you're like "Okay, in the language of film, I have just been told that these girls are going to stupidly lead the three witches to the mayor."
But then seconds later we see Dumb Jock Boy running down the street with the witches following him and commenting on how stupid he is; he's the stupid one supposedly leading three witches to the mayor. And we had a little clip of him walking around a minute ago; I feel like the original plan must have been to cut to that footage of him walking around, after Winnie sets up the Gilligan Cut, because then the audience would get to go "Oh, yeah, he was established to be stupid earlier and he is the boyfriend of the mayor's daughter. That makes sense."
But instead they cut from "Who would be stupid enough...?" to the protagonists, either to deliberately create a not-particularly-clever red herring, or because they edited the clips together out of order.
Like, I guess I'm not a filmmaker, so I could be wrong, but that struck me as weird.

I don’t know if I’ll ever write an essay about it but I do think some of my thoughts around Deborah’s sexuality are connected to her relationship with food.
It’s like Literature Analysis 101 to read eating in media as being symbolic of sex. It doesn’t always mean that, but a meal, in literature, isn’t just a meal.
The fact that Deborah has such a restrained, fearful and overly strict relationship with food is partially what led me to the conclusion she has the same relationship with sex. Like with food, Deborah represses her real sexual desires. She eats the food that she feels won’t cause “consequences” instead of following her cravings. Consequences usually meaning affecting her public image.
To me, that’s why it’s so notable that Deborah does give into her real cravings with Ava in 1.06. She indulges in something she craves and worries not about the consequences of it. It’s not an accident that she does with a person who she has been emotionally and physically vulnerable with all night. It’s only in that way can Deborah let down her guard.
It’s also perhaps not a coincidence that Ava is the complete opposite of Deborah when it comes to food (and probably sex). Ava doesn’t care about eating for health reasons. She will indulge her cravings without much worry and she will eat until she feels satisfied (i.e. ordering 2 plates of chicken parmesan). Ava has no qualms about fulfilling her body’s desires.
Deborah does eat in front of Marty but this kind of subtext conversations around food and sex never happen with them. We don’t know Marty’s relationship with food and we’re not supposed to care. We do however know that Deborah is sexually unsatisfied in her encounters with Marty. There could be symbolism in that every meal with Marty ends badly. In 1.01, he reveals he’s ending her contract and she takes her one bite left and storms off. In 1.05, they don’t even eat because she blackmails him and he’s now pissed off at her and she gets drunk. In 1.07, they sleep together and then the next morning he reveals he didn’t tell her about her contract before they slept together. In 2.08, he reveals he’s engaged. Meals don’t tend to end well for them.
But also, unlike Ava, there isn’t ever a conversation between Marty and Deborah about her letting go of her restrained way of eating which would symbolize her letting down her guard, her constant need for control and allowing herself to just exist with the other person without putting on a front.
And that’s Deborah’s whole conceit as a character, a character who’s internal struggle is to learn how to let go, to surrender and it’s reflected in her relationship with food and sex.
(And yeah there’s also a queer subtext piece of this in her refusing to indulge in her body’s natural desires because of the fear of how it will affect her public image but that’s like a whole other can of worms.)

okay i barely got 10 minutes into derry girls. i just couldn’t get into it. i think i just don’t get it since i’m not irish, yk? am i watching it wrong or why do you like it?
i mean it's totally valid to not like a show so if you don't want to keep watching that's fine. but i will say that i didn't really get into it on the first ep, it took a little getting used to, but by episode three i really liked it. i think i like derry girls because there's something so endearing and comforting about being a teenager watching other teenagers doing chaotic things and living their lives when everything around them is figuratively (and sometimes literally) on fire because that's what being a teenager feels like all the time

thing i love in whatever format is when they're fighting (the with-words kind) and one of them drops some off-the-cuff detail of their life mid-sentence and the other drops the animosity like 'wow really? that's cool bro!' or something and then they go back to fighting.
