I’ve been thinking of how they met for a while. At one point I’d imagine you’d play buckshot roulette… but I like the idea of you knowing each other before that point.

In my scenario, you work in the club he haunts. Maybe he owns the place but makes someone else run for him. All you know is that you don’t meet him when you get hired, but he’s a constant presence.

And people are scared of him enough that it’s almost like he isn’t even an… earthly entity.

“No you uh… don’t want to meet the boss. It doesn’t have a pretty face.”

You hear gunshots on the top floor. The first time you hear them you freak out, but everyone else in the club don’t seem to bother.

“It’s playing another round…”

You feel like someone who’s out of a secret, and when you ask, they only say two words.

“Buckshot roulette.”

From its name alone you get a good idea of what kind of game that is and feel a shudder. What kind of a man plays such a dangerous game every night…?

It isn’t a while until you meet the fabled…. person(?).

Sometimes a shadowy face looks down from the second floor. And you know it’s not the cigarette guy who always seems to hang up there.

Did you make eye contact? You can’t tell from all the way down here.

Then you meet him for the first time when he goes down for a drink. Turning around to see an awfully frightening face- you can’t help but scream. He doesn’t look human- you think!? With a grin full of knives, hollowed out sockets for eyes, and a shotgun strapped to his back, you’d think you were staring down the face of death (which, for certain people, it is).

And just to add to that, he has a hole staining blood down his messy shirt.

Your scream makes him pause- blink for a few seconds. Then he laughs- loudly, enough that it unnerves everyone else in the club. No one stares too long, no one wants to anger the guy(?) with a shotgun.

“You must be the new gal, aren’t you?”

That’s when you realize… this is The Boss.

“Be a lamb and grab me some beers.”

“Do you-? Are you… need… medical…”

You unknowingly endear yourself to the Dealer quickly, from how concerned you seemed, and rolling with the punches. Most people who’ve never seen him turn tail and leave, and here you were, doing your best to fulfill his request.

It makes him actually visit the club more often just to see you, sometimes encountering you on the way home and walking you to the nearest bus stop… and every time, he quickly disappears before anyone else sees him. He’s an enigma. You don’t know why he seems to linger around you, but if you’re making the boss happy, you see it as a win.

As for him, he’s quickly charmed by you, and enjoys your company. Actually gets disappointed when he finishes a game and finds you’d gotten home already. He wants you to stay around a long while. Hopefully, you’ll never have to play a round of buckshot roulette with him…

It kinda sucks that you get a whole dorm room in Scarlet/Violet, and you don't even get to do the one cool thing every student would do with their dorm room - personalize it!!

So I spent an absurdly long time painstakingly editing someone's character out of a screenshot of the empty room, until it looked pretty much seamless...and then proceeded to just scribble over it anyway dkjfg. This is just a concept of what my trainer Sierra would have in her room. It would take way too long to clean it up, so it's just gonna look sketchy for now -u- But I really like what I did with it!

details/descriptions under the cut!

On the bed: Two lavender pillows, two throw blankets, a shiny Minior plush, and a shiny Torchic plush. If you were to interact with the bed, the text would say "There are a few small red and green feathers on the bed..." Sierra's Hawlucha sometimes takes naps there with her kdjfg.

On the left wall: A Froslass poster, inspired by a drawing I once received as a gift.

On the center wall: A map of Paldea with lots of sticky notes, photos, and articles, all connected by strings. Here she keeps track of things related to her search for new Mega Stones (specifically one for Bisharp).

On the right wall: A whiteboard with random notes and doodles. The one of Sierra and her Bisharp is the most prominent

On the shelf: Four frames of Gym Badges she's earned (Sinnoh, Hoenn, Kalos, Galar) - Galar's are tucked away in the corner, as she's a bit ashamed of the experience (she quit before fighting the E4 in Galar, due to the pressure/anxiety of her biggest matches being televised) (also I cheated and copy/pasted transparent PNGs of those badges sorry dkjfg). On the right side are several binders, all containing her research on Mega Evolution.

COMPASSION: 6/10. Sees people around him, and will go out of his way to help people, especially in little ways that are just very doable and why wouldn't you. Also, though, has greater commitment to loved ones than to strangers. He is more likely to be moved to action for people he feels connected to, some way. This can be as little as 'seemed like they were having a bad day', but as the stakes get higher, the circle narrows.

BITTERNESS: 2/10. There's a little bit of an edge, but it's really more frustration than bitterness, I think. Things could be so good if people would just let them be. But he doesn't feel owed. He just feels like people make it harder than it should be.

HAPPINESS: 8/10, generally. There's a little bit of an edge, how else do you end up at frustrated and willing-to-punch-things-into-order?

POLITENESS: ...3/10? He can sometimes just fall into 'polite' because his baseline is chill+nice until given the need to be otherwise, but he very rarely if ever adheres to Politeness as an intentional practice and standard. He also doesn't like the idea of manners being more valued than truths. Impertinent is a good word for it, really.

MORALITY*: idles at like a 6/10 but Henry... flexes. And contradicts himself, sometimes. He is, broadly speaking, in favor of helping others, or at least striving to not bring harm. However, he is also centered on people in his circle, and is pushable to excusing things as long as his people aren't harmed; he also has a tendency to answer violence and harm to himself/his loved ones with retaliatory harm, & sometimes capable of taking this Too Far.

PRIDE: 4/10. Not non-existent, but not, generally, more important to him than his life, others' lives, the truth, etc. He's skilled and confident, but also if he's wrong he's wrong and if it's beg-or-die he's begging. If you insult his mother, however, he will kill you. (That is an exaggeration (probably.))

HONESTY: 7/10. Very honest in the sense he is who he is and doesn't shy from it, doesn't feel the need to hide it. Rarely outright Lies and more often deflects or simply refuses to answer, when it feels necessary. Also, though, he's got a sneaky streak (mainly in a being-places-he-knows-he-shouldn't way, never met a locked door he liked) and it's not a compulsive habit but he has been known to pocket things without paying, here and there.

BRAVERY: 9/10. Absolutely terrified: stands his ground in front of the scary thing anyway. Docked one point for being slightly cagey when it comes to talking about the things that scare him. (He's afraid to give them more power to frighten and maim with his words. Ghosts may be hard to get rid of, but myths are impossible to kill.)

RECKLESSNESS: 5/10. I know what you're thinking. I know why you're thinking it. I agree, he is very impulsive. He also, and I will die on this hill, is way more measured than people take him for. It's true he can be goaded into not thinking at all, and he is, in general, quick to act. However! I think he bows to his impulses only around half the time, and it's just that he's struck by impulse so often that only indulging it around half the time means it's still a defining trait for him. This is also what makes him so easily frustrated — you're only seeing half of his go!go!go!, he's already holding himself in check, so people going "uh, hold yourself in check" is just. A very frustrating experience. Imagine you're walking and people keep blasting whistles in your ear to go 'no running!!!' at you like you're breaking the rules >:[

AMBITION: ..5/10? 6? In terms of when he has a goal, he'll go to every length to achieve it. Ultimately, though, his goals are usually just "the people I care about (including himself, btw) are happy and safe." Everything outside of that isn't necessarily important to him. So it really just depends on what level of 'my people' he's at, as for how ambitious this goal is.

LOYALTY: 10/10. You can't get rid of him if you try, once he's grabbed on. Even if you hurt him.

LOVE: 10/10. Heart on his sleeve. He's not afraid to get close to people, not afraid for them to know it, not afraid to be known - prefers to be known, in fact. I think he's pretty easy to love, too. He is, notably, several closed off characters' weak spot.

SENSE OF FAMILY: 100/10. I told myself I wasn't going to dick around with the greater-than-ten value numbers, but. C'mon. The key to a Henry corruption arc lies somewhere in his unwillingness to let go and the way his people can be used against him.

ATTRACTIVENESS: .. 8? 9/10?? I'm biased about his literal appearance but I feel like it's gotta be... if not more, then equally about his nature. Which I guess is also a 'to each their own' kind of situation, but like. He's warm and reliable and communicative and supportive and earnest and a little bit possessive and there's that surprising edge of wildness and he's got big stupid brown eyes like. I dunno man I feel like a lot of people would fold, at some point. Like come on.

AGILITY: 6/10. Stronger than he is fast, but he'll surprise you with it. Reaction time is very important if you want to work the rigging of a ship. Henry's is reliable, without being flashy or gimmicky; it's more to do with him being attentive than being above-average nimble or anything; suffers/goes down when he's distracted/overwhelmed.

SEX DRIVE: like.... 7/10. Pushing toward higher than average. Not to the point of distraction/preoccupation, but he's definitely down & interested more often than he isn't, if that makes sense? And also very curious, in this regard. In every regard really but here it's relevant.

First of all, thanks for the saint uquiz. It was fun :) and I like reading your poem snippets. Compelling. Do you know Saint Anthony, he’s good at finding lost things. I always thought that was kinda poetic if not just practical. Also I went to catholic elementary school and they taught us about saint philomena, patron saint of lost causes. She was a little girl who went through terrible things bc she refused marriage from an old emperor. Like why did they tell us, a bunch of little girls about that?

i am not fully acquainted with saint anthony actually! i had my very specific set of saints as a kid and then i Stopped Believing In God so i know other saints only through brief mentions (though i do remember hearing that he was good for praying to when you'd lost something! maybe when i was going through our book of saints looking for a confirmation name). you're so right though there's something so poetic about reaching out to a figure held up in divinity above all else and only below god and asking them to help you find your keys. to point you toward where you left that letter you needed. for the divine to be domestic. smth about the safety of saints... god is not to be invoked except in dire need and even then all defaults to his plan for you. saints come down from the heavens for a moment to take your hand and lead you back to the necklace that you thought you lost all those years ago. lives in my head forever and ever. (can't remember if i put this line in the quiz??? but i wrote smth in the poem i chose lines from about how a saint comes down through the rays of light from the stained glass windows to hold your hand... same feeling.) and god. yeah. the way they handed us those stories of extreme suffering as if it would do nothing to us... for a second, i thought philomena was in my childhood book of saints, since her story sounded familiar, but i went to look on internet archive and she wasn't there; p sure who i was thinking about was saint agnes, whose story is very similar.

(her page was also right across from saint sebastian, so i'm sure i read her story more often than the others, when i went back for my constant visits with him.)

really though, saint philomena and saint agnes and saint maria goretti... how many catholic kids were just presented with stories of awful suffering, often of people not much older than them? st. tarcisius is another saint that i was a teensy bit fixated on as a kid (not as much as sebastian and cecilia) but the entirety of his story is that he was a boy carrying the host in the streets of rome and when he refused to give it up to a gang of men, he was beaten to death. i would go back and read his little passage over and over again. there's a miracle within that story, but really... the stories of martyrs are So Much of what makes me the way i am now. guarantee.

I think another thing about their dynamic is that Jun, before Jeonghan, was the “”””mom””” of svt. He took care of the kids and watched them grow. Made them breakfast, looked after them. It’s something I think about a lot when it comes to Jun and his relationship with the others. He was a caregiver to them, even when he didn’t necessarily understand what they were saying. Idk it’s just something that fascinated me about him.

ohh yeah i think about this sometimes but i haven't really thought of it in the context of his relationship with seungkwan and dino. like we talk a lot these days about how jun gets sort of babied/taken care of by the members and they definitely do treat him with affection and almost like a maknae at times. but it's not like he hasn't or doesn't take care of the members too (not that i think anyone's explicitly trying to claim this, it just doesn't get talked about as much these days)

but yeah it really is interesting bc seungkwan and dino are in the maknae line of svt and back during predebut days especially jun did take on a caregiver role. and not to analyze things too much but he probably took on this role back then bc a) he has a little brother 10 years younger than him and seems to have a soft spot for kids + knows how to play with them and b) back then he was still learning korean, and to this day he still loves food and cooking, so it made sense for that to be a way for him to connect with the members despite the language barrier

and we know jun still cooks for the members sometimes, but obviously they're all adults now so it's not like he's being a caretaker in that way. but now it's interesting to see how so many of the members have turned back around to take care of jun as well. which is probably in part bc he just has a very playful and carefree personality :')

I just had to say, that I 100% agree with your thoughts about the Eleventh Doctor!

David Tennant (rightfully) gets a lot of shine as Ten, and Matt Smith pulled off a major magic trick following in his footsteps, while still making the character completely his own.

He makes the character endearingly childlike, while still giving him an edge of darkness that lets you know he's not to be messed with. He's the youngest person to play The Doctor to that point, yet he also feels the oldest, with how world-weary he is. It's incredible honestly.

I really do hope history remembers how genius Matt's performance was, and that we get to see him back in a special one day, because I miss him to death!

Honestly, before this rewatch I didn't remember much about his seasons, maybe because he came right after David Tennant who became the face of New Who. Or maybe because he came before Peter Capaldi, my personal fave dkjfg

But watching the show again, I have a newfound and deeper love for 11 :') I would say there's still some stuff I don't love about his era, mostly in the writing department. Which sucks, because it hindered Matt's amazing performance, specially in S5. BUT 11 as a character is absolutely glorious.

I keep forgetting he was the youngest to play The Doctor, that's insane! He feels so much older! Like a grandfather who is old and tired but still gets on the floor to play with his grandchildren, and runs after them, and hasn't lost that child-like wonder
