httyd hcs abt the gang's relationship to eret bc we were deprived.
eret has a sense of camaraderie with all of them eventually, but it's super rough to get along with anyone besides astrid & hiccup at first
him & astrid get along the best, obv. they spar, they talk shit, they open up abt serious things, they trade information
eret dealing with how quickly he's changed his life & while astrid doesn't fully understand she rmrs how quickly her mind had been changed & getting used to it.
stormfly still plays fetch with eret (with a stick or... with him LMAO but it helps him get used to falling from large heights & trusting he'll be caught by a dragon, either her or skullcrusher)
hiccup immediately trusts eret as much as he trusts anyone he's known for years & eret doesn't know if he deserves it but he strives to make it so he does
eret has HIGH respect for hiccup & understands what he's going through to an extent as the son of a chief (tho hiccup is chief now). hiccup is one of the only ones who know eret was son of a chief.
yea i'm going off of what was said abt fire tides with eret being the son of a chief
eret figures out exactly where toothless likes to be pet & always has to give him a scratch under the chin to say hello
fishlegs enthusiasm for dragons & infodumping is a lot for eret at first, but very quickly fishlegs unabashedly is sweet, gentle, shy, patient, & still has the ability to bite back at ppl (mostly snotlout & the twins) & eret is like okay word
fishlegs helps eret understand skullcrusher more, as he's more than eager to step into the role of teacher (this makes hiccup happy)
fishlegs tells eret abt his family's regatta history & eret is actually invested!! he's interested!!! in turn, eret shows fishlegs his ship!!
eret: (sees meatlug) oh. (gives her a snack) (gives her a snack) (gives her a snack) (gives her a
we know snotlout sees eret as a rival but eret doesn't Care™️ but it'd be funnier i think if eret doesn't Care™️ but also enjoys mildly taking the piss out of snotlout for fun
it's so easy to work snotlout up & after eret's had his fun for a few months he casually brings it up to snotlout & snotlout wants to crawl into a hole & die
they do become good friends & it's weird for ppl outside of the gang bc eret is so dry towards snotlout vs snotlout still getting in eret's face (affectionate)
hookfang just likes to push himself into eret's personal space & cuddle(?) so eret just allowe it LMAO
it's ruffnut's bluntness that has eret finally relax around her.
she defends him in a rather mundane event of eret getting heckled (again) by berkians who don't trust him (this is like, month 5 of him living on berk) by looking at each viking & roasting them calmly from the ground up with information they didn't know she knew
eret tells her thanks & she just... smiles at him. so he gives her a kiss on the cheek & it's a rare moment of ruff getting slightly flushed
tuffnut is actually very easy to get along with. he always checks on eret & makes sure he's doing alright (in his tuffnut way)
tuffnut is so blasé abt things while also being one of the most hyper ppl eret has ever met & it's so intriguing to eret how someone can be a walking contradiction but make it make sense so easily
tuffnut gives eret unprompted pep talks & eret tries to respond in kind instead of fully brushing tuff off & tuff is like :D
barf & belch are as chaotic as their riders & maybe... maybe... eret will enable them on occassion (yes he will. what? it's funny).
eret rlly learns abt everyone & learns to like them for them as they like him for him :)
also they all saw him without a shirt ONE TIME (1) & haven't shut up abt it since

collars of the colony
members of the colony werent always naked and bare in their prides regard. most of them used to wear reminders of their housekeepers and people, like the common housecat. it was normal to wear these reminders, like a tag, so others knew where you belonged.
not everyone agreed with these reminders, however. cats like jax and zooble felt annoyed by these restraints. jax wore none at all, as even the thought of being confined to such a small place made him seeth with rage. he loved his people, sure, but the idea of a grounding tag like this was too much. zooble on the other hand, tolerated such restraining reminders in the guise of their people, tossing it away when they werent. they knew they were smart. their housekeepers were the type to allow their presence to be outside the boundaries of their home. zooble knew they were lucky for this opportunity, and used it sparingly.
other cats on the other hand held onto their reminders longer than the average cat. cats like kaufmo and queenie felt that without such a reminder, the memory of their people would fade away into nothing. and how could such a cat let this happen? without housekeepers like theirs, theyd truly be nothing but more feed for speeding cars upon the darkpaths. theyd been given food, a home, and love. to throw away such a reminder was like throwing away a piece of themself.
of course, when it due time, queenie was the only one who couldnt seem to bare the burden of finally letting go. kaufmo eventually finally gave in, but he vowed to never let his memories of his people fade away. his vow and queenie's denial however, was not enough to save them from the dangers that demanded change, and dangers that soon lie ahead.

Today on "Another JeanMarco Soulmate AU absolutely no one asked for" I present to you -
Soulmate AU in which you stop seeing colors when your soulmate dies, the only exception being your soulmate. Now cue to Jean who just found Marco's, his best friend's, body. And you know, there's the shock of finding out Marco's dead. The pain and confusion and guilt. But there's also the revelation, because despite everything he can still see Marco like nothing took place at all- yes, half of his face is missing and his body is straight up lifeless, but Jean can still make out the color of his eye ; see that light shade of brown perfectly, remember all the times he has found himself looking at them while listening to Marco talk. He can still make out the colors of his uniform, see the same shade of black his hair has always had, practically see. Despite being dead, Marco was the only piece of color left in his life.
And there's denial for a moment because there's no way Marco was his soulmate. But that goes away fast, getting replaced by guilt. By the fact that he hasn't been there to save him, that Marco has to die all alone without anyone being there for him.
And that was worse than the simple fact that he could no longer see colors ; because Marco was there when Jean needed him, but he failed to do the same. And not only he lost his best friend that day, but his other half too.

I want to offer a few words of encouragement to fellow artists (including writers, musicians, performers, and editors too since that's also art!) given how AI is growing to be of substantial proportions and I've been seeing people feel discouraged due to that.
First and foremost, you're a human person. No matter how your art may be, the fact that it was made by a human person won't change. The art you put out to the world or keep to yourself matters because it's something you put in at least some time and effort into. To make something yourself is commendable enough!
No matter how well AI will be developed, it's not going to change the fact that you're a human being behind the screen. Even outside of being a creator, you should still be treated with basic human dignity.
To anyone who wants to take up the skill or develop them, don't let AI stop you! Be patient with yourself because this is something that takes a lot of time, but the only thing required to be an artist is choosing to be one! By choosing to do art, you're an artist by default. Art is something anybody can do, after all!

just saw some of the worst, shallowest, most boring opinions on seon-ho that seem to take everything he says and does at face-value and which i dearly wish i could unread or just erase from my mind with some brain bleach. it's fine to dislike him, people have the right and freedom to dislike him, but don't claim to love him when you insult him in every second sentence. in fact, just admit that you hate him and think he is unloveable and underserving of anyone's love and that he should stay alone forever and ever and die alone too. also, while stating your (wrong) opinions about the character is one thing (which you are allowed to do, no matter how wrong you are), imo it's clearly crossing the line when you start making offensive assumptions about the fans of that character/that rarepair with that character in it or making fun of the fans/shippers. that's when you start leaning into shipping wars and bullying, which is very much NOT okay. couching it in humor changes nothing about that fact.
stumbling on these mocking, disrespectful, downright offensive opinions was seriously upsetting and honestly speaking i feel very hurt right now. please someone say something nice about nam seon-ho so i can feel less angry and sad and horrible about myself as a seon-ho fan again.

Writing Whispers Challenge
Rules: find a few paragraphs of writing from as long ago as you can. Re-write them how you would now.
@sarahlizziewrites left an open tag for this fun idea, so I went looking for some old writing. I ended up going a little sideways from the original prompt so that I could rewrite a passage from one of my oldest substantive stories, The Princess and the Vampire. I rewrote it a little more than stylistically, but I kept the chain of events the same.
I'll tag @outpost51, @writernopal, and @kingkendrick7 (extra no pressure on this one because I know it can be weird to share your old writing), plus anyone who wants to join in!
2009
His name is Sam. He's a vampire. But he's nothing to be afraid of. Sam owns a house 3 miles out of Bereglet. He has 3 pets, too. His first pet is a golden retriever named Rocky. The next one is a bat named Klaus. And then he has a fish tank full of guppies. Now anyway, Sam was heading to the farmer's market for some fresh fruit. When he got there he overheard two old ladies talking about the princess. Sam asked where he could find the princess. Lucky for him, the ladies didn't see his vampire teeth. They said that they heard the princess was somewhere around Seacliff, which is 60 miles away from where Hermia's tower actually was. Sam bought his fruit, went home, put it away, and got ready to go to Seacliff. Then he went out to the stables and mounted his horse, Wizard. They rode away toward the northwest. Seacliff, in case you didn't guess, is on a strong cliff over the sea.
2023
Sam ducked through the crowd to the nearest stall with peaches. It was blood peach season, finally, and while they didn't really live up to the name, they were still his favorites. As he looked over the bags still on offer, he heard the other thing he'd come for: news. At the next stall over two old ladies were tasting the mustard and having a serious chat about the princess being stuck in a tower. That was a rumor from the capital if he'd ever heard one. And yet, the more he listened, the more he started to believe it, too. Anything could happen with an overly familiar Great Wizard around. The women moved to the peach stall, still deep in conversation.
"Excuse me," he said as one made a lull in the conversation by popping a sample into her mouth. "I didn't mean to overhear, but…did you say the princess is in a tower somewhere?"
"Yes," they both said a little too intensely.
"Where would they have put her?"
The second old lady shook her head. "Seacliff, no doubt. No better place to defend."
He couldn't argue with that, but apparently her companion could, because they immediately got into an argument. Sam excused himself from it by buying a bag of peaches and slipping away into the crowd. He didn't want to participate, but either way, the longer he stayed, the more likely someone was to notice his fangs. Once he was home, the peaches went on the peach shelf, and he immediately started packing his bag. Wizard seemed to know what was up when he stepped into the stable. As soon as she had a saddle on her pale back and his things were settled into her saddlebag, they were off northwest to Seacliff.
Bonus, based on the next events in the story and the fact that I did not address the fresh fruit in canon lol:
By the time they arrived, almost two hours later, he couldn't put off eating any longer. He checked into the inn, left Wizard in the stable, and climbed the stairs along their threadbare runner to his room. With the door locked tight behind him, he unpacked the one peach he'd brought with him. Holding it in both hands, he slowly pressed his fangs into the skin until it punctured, letting his teeth sink into the firm flesh. There wasn't much juice he could get from a single bite of a peach, but the bite itself was the most satisfying he'd found in something that didn't actually have blood.
