this has probably been done a million times but. tma musical ideas courtesy of @emiwith2braincells and i

the lonelyeyes tango. peter cant dance, like at all, but hes trying his best. elias is annoyingly good at it (as always) and gets way too into it

either michael or helen gets to chase jon to california gurls. its horribly distorted though. bonus points if jon is screaming the entire time

annabelle and elias are the narrators and get to break the fourth wall to question the songs they've been given or shit that doesn't make sense, which confuses the fuck out of everyone around them. especially peter. he just watches his husband start talking in a random direction and refuses to acknowledge it. also elias and annabelle fight over who gets to narrate the best/most fun parts

whenever gerry comes on stage (which is often because i say so), mcr starts playing and he has to tell it to stop and wonders where it keeps coming from. hes involved with the eye enough to hear it but not enough to fully break the fourth wall. when he appears as a book dead! plays extremely loudly and he and jon have to yell their dialogue over it

in the later section of the musical whenever jonmartin does anything cute and the whole audience goes "awwwww" jon just turns to face us and says "could you not? we're trying to have a moment here" "jon who are you talking to" "don't worry"

someone gets trapped in the hallways and has a breakdown to fancy by twice

jane has a bag or something full of worms that she chucks into the audience sometimes so if youre unlucky youll get a faceful of worm

theres a big group number that almost all of the cast join in with... but its the jurgen leitner rant put to music. gerry gets to lead it

agnes shows up a few times and keeps opening her mouth to sing but is interrupted by various other people/things. in the end she never gets to say a word

elias has at least one ott costume change. theres definitely high heels or platform shoes at some point. when jon sees them he visibly dies inside

at one point nikola's skin is just a piece of ham stapled to her face. no explanation is given for this

leitner gets a huge buildup to his song, prepares to sing and then is immediately bpmed

somehow trexel breaks in at some point and either michael or helen has to get rid of him (i hc him as a spiral avatar). theyre like "this isnt your show fuck off" and just punt him offstage like a football

I must admit Trevor is quite an interesting figure, he's intelligent and resourceful, can do much with almost nothing and put together every piece of information he has in a way he can reach a satisfactory conclusion. And then he just sticks with it. There are these monsters, which I know how to kill, and so I do it. Simple. Efficient. Practical as hell.

This is also the second time going clubbing has ended horribly for someone in tma, and honestly? Wtf

This guy just die in the break room, like, lmao. He really said "no time like the present, may as well reach supersaiyan state in that couch over ther", and he fucking did it

And then Jon ends everything by showing a lot of evidences while acting the sceptic part and it's so goddamn funny. He should be a comedian.

General overview:

Vibe: this one is so fucking wild, nice homeless grandpa ends up being the modern Van Helsing and "dies" in a couch at paranormal research institute. Iconic

This probably isn't the space to do this but as someone who likes your blog and is choosing to part ways with hotd fandom, and you do discuss the "team discourse' and thought I'd leave this here. I'm done with this show and fandom.

The amount of if you like team (insert) here you are morally bankrupt is so...frustrating on its own. But the fact that the entire fandom cannot seem to not compare fiction to real life tragedies and horrors on this level, the bullying, the callout posts, Valaryian being used a sneaky way to be racists towards nettles, laena and laenor, white feminism being promoted and normalized so aggressively, the homophobia laenor faces from both teams, how you cannot claim both teams are bad without being accused of deflecting or preached to about one team not being as bad as the other, you cannot critique any Targaryen's unless come out lyanna or alicent's impure bloodline.

Not to mention how stans come for you throat if you mention daemyra isn't healthy or Daemyra/daemon make you uncomfortable.

This adaptation is too season 7 of GoT to be worth this much trouble. But tbh, as I announce my exit like a cringy karen, I just hope Ewan, Tom and Phia's media hate doesn't effect their careers because they are some of the best talent in the show to do what they did with so little given to them to work with; And to any blacks wanting to come into the notes proud there bullied a green out the fandom. I can't wait for Jon Snow to choose his sisters and end the targ line in the unreleased books spoilers that will leak after grrm dies. And i hope the f&b 2 draft is on the same shelf as the WoW.

I had two lines of thought reading this. First I'm really bummed out you feel that way, it's always a shame when we lose normal, (normal isn't an insult in this fandom lol), interesting, great people in the fandom. It seems like people who just want to interact with media and enjoy something that's suppose to be fun (fandom) always end up leaving and the worst people always tend to stay and get venerated in this fandom for just being awful. I'm really sorry to see you go!.

At the same time, I completely understand your frustration and feelings. I don't know why but the ASOIAF/GOT/HOTD fandom has a real problem with attracting honestly just really vile individuals. I want to blame it on this being a fandom that has been waiting for over a decade but I even at times feel embarrassed that my favorite book series is one *those* people claim to *love* as well. (By those people I mean what you reference - individuals who use this fandom to spout to the most vile racist, sexist, homophobic, overall weird ass takes).

It can become too much. Especially when fandom is supposed to be fun, hell even GRRM himself subtly pointed out how fandom seems to be ran by anti fans now who make fandom just not a fun place to be in. Ultimately the issues in the fandom you mentioned are very real and nothing minor. I would encourage you to put your health, safety, and happiness first. I recently took a small break, and if you ever want to come back I promise there are corners of the fandom that are for lack of a better word normal.

I don't think you're being a Karen, lol. It's fair to be frustrated with everything you mentioned. I don't think you have to worry on that end, the cast of HOTD live extremely fantastic lives compared to those who sit around hating on them lol. They will be just fine and they're talented individuals. I deeply encourage you to step back from this fandom, let go of that team idea, I know it's very pervasive in the HOTD fandom, but really it's not real, lol. People just really like tribalism on both ends and want to feel important in one way or another.

IJBOL, not gonna lie the little digs thrown in at the end before you head out made me laugh!. Unfortunately I disagree with you on that end I really like Daenerys and I hope she lives a long life. LMAO and I hope I get to see more books from GRRM but I understand you might not be feeling the nicest right now LOL. Stay strong friend. I know this fandom sucks, but don't let it discourage you from enjoying what you like.

Screenshotting because it's not rebloggable anymore (omitting OP's name for that reason) but this post - more specifically the replies to it - have been bothering me since I saw it a day or so ago and I finally decided to come back and engage lmao. (Source link from OP)

OP's totally right. OpenAI is a garbage company with garbage business practices but this is not the way to do this, people. I'm glad y'all have so much faith in the legal system here, but I don't, and if this goes through it's not going to harm the entities you want it to harm. believe me.

(i am not against AI when used ethically but i think that is a moot point here bc i do not believe OpenAI is an ethical developer of AI tech. anyway)

Here's the "rebuttal" that has been irritating me so much I couldn't leave it alone:

THIS IS NOT REMOTELY TRUE.

First of all, unless I've missed something big, OpenAI has never disclosed the contents of the proprietary dataset they use to train their LLMs. We have no idea whether ChatGPT was trained on George RR Martin's books or not. Presumably, neither does George RR Martin. So all we have to go on is that ChatGPT "knows" characters and details from ASOIAF. Okay.

The problem is that ASOIAF is a massively popular series with some massively popular multimedia adaptations and spinoffs, and processing the text of the novels is far from the only way ChatGPT could have learned to produce those details.

Let's try a little experiment.

GPT-2 is an open source model released by OpenAI when they were just starting out. It works more or less the same way as ChatGPT and its ilk, just on a vastly smaller scale. It's much, much more limited, but the underlying algorithms work on the same concepts. So, what would GPT-2 give us if we ask it for a summary of a hypothetical GRRM novel?

I typed up the first paragraph here, and GPT-2 gave me the rest. (GPT-2 isn't a chatbot, but works more like autocomplete, so I didn't prompt it directly.)

Okay, I have a feeling that plot doesn't make much sense as a prequel, but hey, it's AI (and an elderly one at that), it's not going to be particularly good at this left to its own devices. And look, it DID pull out a few details specific to ASOIAF - Jon Snow, the Night Watch, the Wildlings. So case closed, right? GPT-2 must have had ASOIAF novels in its training data too, just like its nasty little great-grandchild.

Except we know what was in GPT-2's dataset - it was trained on a 40GB corpus of data scraped from publicly-available web pages, specifically pages linked from Reddit. We don't have all the exact texts that were used, but we DO have the top 1000 domains contained in the dataset. All of which is a hell of a lot more information than we have on ChatGPT.

What websites are ranked #75 and #160 in the list of 1000 domains? Why, it's Fanfiction.net and AO3. Hmm, I wonder where it learned about the very popular fictional characters from George RR Martin's novels! (Certainly not just from fanfiction, either - sites like IMDB and Wikia were ranked much higher in the list of sources, and entertainment news and fan wiki articles would also contain a lot of text about ASOIAF/GoT.)

You can certainly argue that using these websites as training data is also unethical or should be illegal - but that's not what's being argued in this lawsuit. As far as I know, ChatGPT has never spat out a perfect recreation (or even a vaguely paraphrased recreation) of any of GRRM's writing, so the only evidence for violation of his copyright in this case is the generation of what is essentially a machine-created derivative work. That is really, really worrying, even if you don't think the machine should be allowed to do that. I'm not a lawyer, just a fanfic writer and software developer, so I have no idea how legitimate the legal argument here is... but it's going down a road that is very dangerous for fandom, whether you believe it is or not.

oliver study time? oliver study time. lets get to know ollie boy!!

i had tons of fun with mike crew so i'll be doing this to oliver banks now since i always get confused with his personality n also death so.

avatar of the end, duh. he sees tendrils tied to ppl who are abt to die. so like only ppl who r close to dying have those tendrils then? i'm assuming so.

originally he dreamed of ppl's deaths 10 days before their death. around 2014, maybe 2013, he started seeing the tendrils awake as well.

he has 3 aliases: antonio blake, the coroner (cool ass title), and Dr. Thomas Pritchard (random ass name but we move on)

he died by satellite impact but came back ofc, at a research vessel near Point Nemo

descriptions: tall, dark n handsome. lmao, he's tall, he's black, he's careworn???? don't know what that means. n also has worry lines on his face. boy is anxious. oh careworn means "tired and unhappy because of prolonged worry". boy is depressed and anxious, mood.

2000-2006: boyfriend Graham!! in 2000-2001. dated 6 years, lived together, broke up before 2007. Ollie moved to london around 2005 "to do his undergraduate degree at the London School of Economics and started working at Barclays directly after graduating" boy went to school! undergraduate means this is his first degree btw! also wtf is barclays? oh i googled it its a back. heh oliver banks. works in a bank. hehe. oh shit, boy got too stressed, had a breakdown after barely a year n had a dramatic exit from his job around 2007. his dreams started soon after.

ok i just saw graham's page. he died in 2006. no wonder they broke up, oliver probably realized smth was wrong or the notthem ruined their relationship. poor boy :( but also i cant remember if graham broke up with ollie before or after his death. hmm. they might have broken up since graham was obsessed with that table n eating notebooks n shit.

around 2013: 2015, oliver was working on a magick shop. king. they sold crystals n tarot cards. jane prentiss mentioned him looking at her with deep sadness n even fear. this is where jane worked not oliver

oliver worked on a shop that in soho that had a sign saying "Crystals. Books. Tarot" pretty straight to the point. he asked jennifer what she was listening to even tho she had no headphones on n when altered to this he just walked away muttering a warning abt protecting her ears. so. he's awkward as well. how cute

march 2015: he gives a statement, under antonio blake, abt gertrude's death. so gertrude died around this time then.

mid 2015-2018: "Oliver assumed the identity of a chemist and boarded an unnamed research vessel in the hopes of getting some restful sleep" boy what. how do you go from A to B here. i'll read the statement in a bit to get more context but this sounds WILD w/o context. n then when he notices theyre all abt to die cuz of the vines he. kills the captain? n leads everyone to a location that gets hit by a satellite killing them instantly.

2018: oliver gives the statement to coma jon, saying the web sent him, which is interesting how the web has so much power but its all so behind the scenes. when georgie encounters him he uses his alias antonio blake again, but she knows shes an avatar of the end right away n that he reminds her of someone evil which. yikes!

post-change: he has his own domain, corpse roots, n gives jon another statement, also theorizes abt the ruined world. he's a nerd <3

still unsure of his age but! if he started his undergratuate in his 20's in 2005, then by 2016, the start of the podcast, he's around his 30's, probs 31.

let's get into the statements

mag 11: Dreamer: ok so his work stress also had a hand on the breakup actually, n he left their home to stay with some friends. he slept on his friend's Anahita's sofa, n thats when he started having the dreams.

the dreams were irregular throughout the years, so at least it wasnt everyday. he read tons of books abt esoteric dreaming but found nothing of value.

he also saw his father's death, n couldnt stop it. even after his death, he saw his father in his dreams for a month and a half

he lied to get into the institute to give his statement to gertrude, knowing she would die soon. poor boy just wanted to help somebody, even if he couldnt help his father :(

mag 42: Grifter's Bone: interesting that jennifer did not die but oliver still warned to protect her ears. she didnt even suffer damage since she took precautions. how did he know? did he see a ton other ppl with tendrils in their ears? did he actually change the trajectory of her death by being a puzzling man warning her to protect her ears?

she did kill herself by hitting her head with a hammer. does this mean that, even tho she didnt die by the grifter's bone, she still did die? like oliver sees when ppl r going to die n the only thing he can maybe change is the way that it happens? thats fucked up

mag 121: Far Away: he can feel the tendrils when they appear irl! he feels a chill when he touches or brushes against one. he isolates himself since he doesnt want to see ppl's deaths, but he cant escape that entirely. probs saw neighbors n shit, or when he went grocery shopping. or just looked out the window, oof

point nemo is a point in the ocean that is the furthest place away from any civilization. the lonely must like him a little as well, damn. he cant dream abt the place since the vines dont let him. he finds out theres a scientific voyage going to point nemo, he replaces one of the members who is fated to die n takes his identity, deposing of the corpse. him n martin are so alike sometimes how fun. no wonder martin felt threatened lmao.

he has dreamless sleep for a while, keeping to himself. finally got the context lmao. but the vines return when they get to the destination, n he understands their fate n his purpose (as an avatar of the end? as a bringer of death? damn). he makes it so they reach the place where the vines originate from n they all die. this time, he's the one to cause the deaths, not just be a bystander. i bet he also wanted to die a little bit, loosing hope of having a normal life and just wanting it to stop :((

oliver embraces death, becoming an avatar. he also states he's going along with what "she" wants, which could be annabelle cane or just the mother from the web.

mag 168: Roots: (iconic "martin, are you jealous?" episode, just fyi) his alias here is The Coroner, which is rad as shit. he sees the veins of the end, n he has no power to stop the fate of death, but even if he could he wouldnt. "for to rob a soul of death is as torturous as its inevitable coming" grim poet over here lmao

interesting that he measures how close somebody is to death by "stretches" which are "waves" of terror or whatever. some ocean terms here, probs since oliver died in the middle of the ocean, so nice lil detail.

he likes to watch ppl be afraid of their inevitable deaths, even the inevitable deaths of others. we love a lil evil in out handsome men ofc.

he also has his concerns. the ppl will die, but without ppl to die there's no End. he may need other victims from other domains, but that will result in conflict. theres probs not new humans being created, so the humans will eventually run out if the apocalypse keeps going. and when that happens, all the fears will end and this reality will be rid of them. even then, there's no action to be taken to prevent this. the other fears will feed into The End, n he will see this happen, n while this might have terrified him before, he's too much of an avatar to be what he was before, he's more of the end than oliver banks now.

so! oliver is a handsome, tall, black man. he is anxious n also very sad, and awkward. a pretty chill guy regardless. he cares abt ppl, even those he doesnt know. he slowly comes to terms with death tho, n he just starts to like. not care less but just understand that it doesnt matter if they will all die n shit. he will also lie to get his way, n he has mostly good intentions, he's just desensitized to death now. also he might be into magick's. n he used to be a banker but that didnt go well. n also he's gay. king <3<3<3

god so i'm like.... disappointed grrm is even remotely involved in the jon snow spin-off but I'm just gonna look at it this way. he's clearly resolved that any series based on his work needs his input from here on out, given what happened last time. and that annoys me because good god I could not care less about any of these damn spin-offs (except the harrenhal not-a-musical i care about that a little bit) but I can understand him making that decision post-GOT.

but besides that his involvement.... might even be a contractual thing tbh?? like we know he signed an agreement with HBO regarding TV adaptation rights for all things Westeros, and I wouldn't be surprised if a big clause of that is that he has to be involved in the development of all projects they carry forward. and again, that might be something he requested, might be something HBO requested of him, but either way.

but this jon snow concept didn't actually come from GRRM or the writer's room but by the sounds of it, Harington and his production company. and of course HBO were going to jump on that. so I think they've probably just made it a part of their adaptational deal with GRRM, hence his part in it. or maybe there's no such clause and he just doesn't want westeros running away from him again. I don't know. but whilst I don't want to read too much into it.... eh, he just doesn't sound completely ecstatic about the concept. not like he's mad to be involved but just like there's a level of remove. basically: i'm not worried that he's remotely invested in the GOT version of events. the books are still the books, and hey, at least he's mentioning them more regularly again.

but I get that people are repulsed by the very idea of this show LMAO and I feel that, but it is just.... so far removed from what asoiaf is that I'm fairly past caring what they have these characters say and do. like. who even are they at this point. does anyone care what they do next. lol

WAAAHHHH JBSDJGBJDG Hi! I'm sorry, we were not expecting to wake up to anything this morning. We are extremely flattered!! We're going to try to talk/answer any of your questions or theories without spoiling anything we have planned but firstly! You should definitely listen to The Magnus Archives it's such a good podcast. You don't have to worry about our fic containing spoilers for any of the events in the podcast (to my knowledge, at least. Anyone is free to correct me).

____ 1) Our main reason for having him wait a day before respawning was so THIS MAN COULD SLEEP. This man hasn't had a proper 8 hours of sleep in weeks at this point and needed the rest. The Universe spoke and said he needs to sleep.

2) We're actually going to start to explore people dying in the next chapter and we are VERY very exciting to start on that. What I think will be funny even going forward is seeing how terrified Jon is of seeing people die verse how laid back the hermits are about it. Cause realistically this is what, their ninth season so I'd say they're pretty desensitized to it.

3) I think about his reaction to Doc a lot cuz here comes this shirtless creeper goat cyborg with crocs. IT'S JUST TOO PERFECT. We haven't pin pointed when we're going to introduce the two but when we do it's going to be so much fun to write.

4) Cub <3 <3 <3 So far Cub has been our favorite hermit to write cuz he's just so chill. He could say the most out there sentence and you'll be looking at him and he's just got a blank expression. You'll look at him like did you not just hear what came out of your mouth and he'll look like he's said nothing wrong. Love his guy

5) It's just a few things we think about the difference between hermits and non hermits. For hermits mining for resources is an (at least) a once a week things. Non hermits haven't needed to mine for resources by hand since what, since heavy machinery was introduced on the scene. So it's not something they think about unless their job is to mine for those resources / work those heavy machines.

6) I wouldn't say it's foreshadowing but mainly a light jab at Jon cuz maybe he looks like the kind of guy who you'd give him simply directions and he still gets lost.

(We are those people. Driving downtown is confusing even with a gps)

But yes, maybe Jon does have an encounter with some mobs later on. Who's to say? Hehe.

Anyways, I'm super glad that you've been enjoying our fic so far! Super exciting to get back to writing it more often now that we have a lot more free time.

Sooo huh MAG 200, am I right?

That will be a bunch because I just had a whole ass essay of thoughts that I also shared with my friend so now just time to do it here as well lmao

(by the way, fun fact, she was in denial for a long time, she was so certain that they were sticking to the plan, that Martin was there, that he was sneaking on Elias from behind or something, meanwhile Jon was there alone the whole time)

But yeah he went alone and :C And they could've done this whole shit without their maybe-deaths because in the end it doesn't matter, what Jon wanted to do didn't work so the fact that he went alone just made it worse for them and :C I mean it's like aghhhh That situation obviously had no good solution, Jon thought okay well let's sacrifice our world to make sure the Fears die with it, others were like no actually fuck other worlds, let's save ours

And it's hard to blame any of the sides really for wanting to do what they did, like, 'oh wow Jon would you really doom this whole world' vs 'oh wow others would you really doom all the other worlds' like pots kettles doesn't matter it's the apocalypse, countless people are gonna suffer and the only thing to decide is who And it might be selfish to want to pass the Fears on to another world but how could they be blamed? Their whole world ended what are they supposed to do? Accept that their whole world is gonna die?

And on the other hand Jon's behaviour, running off by himself to kill Magnus and become the pupil of the eye, if we think of it just in that one world then oh wow he's the worst person alive! He literally wants to kill all the other people in the world! But well we're talking about someone who became very familiar with everybody's suffering throughout their journey and someone who understood more than others what it would mean to unleash the Fears onto other worlds. The fact that he's more aware doesn't make his choice the better one, there are no good choices, but it does explain why he chose that.

Besides, when he asks others if the suffering of other people is better when they can't see them, that was... A fair question. Again, not one that makes either of the options better, but it was a fair question, because here's the thing. It is easier to make that decision when they will never see the other's suffering. Like, they know other worlds exist because Annabelle told them so, but they don't know how many, they don't know how these worlds look like, what the people who live there are like, nothing, they're just these hypothetical 'worlds' in their head and now that the Fears are not in their world anymore... Well, 'out of sight, out of mind' is a cruel way to do things, but that's the thing that it does work and they can keep on living, maybe worried, maybe feeling guilty, but ultimately still able to lie to themselves that oh well maybe the apocalypse will never happen in the other worlds; never having to confront the people that they have doomed, whose lives they've destroyed.

Because like, the Fears were hurting plenty of people even before the apocalypse. The only thing is that before the apocalypse the fears were sort of picking on the weakest or most curious/stupid, most... Unlucky, I suppose. But like, all of these statements we've heard, they're just a fraction of all the stories that must exist, people who never went to the Magnus Institute, and hell those people who survived and never gave a statement are still just a fraction of people who just died, who weren't lucky enough to get away from that with 'just trauma' and just, well, objectively speaking, by saving their own world, they did ensure that so many more people will die. It will take more time, but they will die. So there's that.

But like again, who in their right mind would look at their own world being just overtaken by suffering and choose not to fix that, I mean clearly Jon, but well

And you know, if I were there, in these tunnels, immune to the fears in a way they were, having to make that choice, I too would probably choose to save my own world. Because ultimately that's how we're built, humans, that is, aren't we? Besides, our brains are not built to comprehend big numbers and that's an important factor. People really cannot understand how big a difference between a million and a billion is. They see three more zeroes and go oh well just a bit more! No, a thousand times more. And we have eight billion people in the world. That's already a number we can barely understand. When more and more billions of people from thousands of other worlds come into that, we simply cannot comprehend that.

Like, human brains literally count certain numbers up as 'a lot' you know. And that's not without its impact right now! Because if you see the amount of suffering you will bring to other worlds as 'well a lot, just like we have right now', it's... Easier to make that decision.

So I guess that's it for the morality and philosophy part

I think there's something they could've done better in season 5, as much as I love the whole thing overall

Because season 5 had a lot of episodes that were in the fear domains, spent mostly on the statements, but I think if the plot happened a bit faster so that they'd reach London faster, then maybe it would've been... Idk, better? Because by the end there were a lot of revelations that the characters didn't really have the time to, well, deal with them? Like, hey, Jonah is there, one option is that Jon takes over. Hey huh other worlds exist. Hey Jon remember that spiderweb lighter you had? Yeah well Web was literally using it to manifest tape recorders around you. Hey guys we need to decide whether we'll killing our world or all the others. And, ye, a bunch of stuff that I feel it would be cool to force them... For example if the journey back from Hilltop Road was a bit longer, maybe, a few episodes that were at the beginning of s5 to put there instead.

And another thing is that this 'other realties' thing very much was foreshadowed, but out of 200 episodes, it was I think in 2? Well mostly one but also as far as I know, a little bit in another one as well. And it would be too obvious if they did too many statements on it, yes, of course, but if they did at left a few more hints lying around in other episodes, I feel like it would feel like it was coming towards this end the whole time

Granted, it still definitely felt like it was coming towards an unhappy end because happy would just feel, it just wouldn't feel, you know?

And I guess those two things are my only 'major' complaints and I wouldn't really necessarily call them major... I mean it depends how you see it. I just think that a little bit more hints and a slightly different pacing of s5 could've maybe worked better. Maybe. But it still worked damn well and just. Yeah damn. Shit. Well.

So, uh. Let's just hope they're Somewhere Else and get some therapy they definitely very much need :C

I'm a rather shy and quiet person, I don't really talk too much unless I'm with my friends or family or if someone mentions something I'm interested in, in that case I will not shut up. (Said interests include: Skyrim, Marvel, GOT, The Witcher, Red Dead Redemption, and a handful of YouTubers) I spend a lot of my time playing video games and cosplaying. My music taste is mostly rock (Shinedown being my favorite band) but I'll also listen to anything for Cupcakke to Taylor Swift to Minecraft songs.

I would consider myself to be a pretty caring person. I guess you could say I'm bit of a people pleaser. In school I mostly kept to myself but my grades were always great. I was one of those kids that teachers were like "Oh! She's a pleasure to have in class!" Outside of school though? I'm surprised my dumbass is managing to live on her own.

you’d stumble out of bed in the morning, tired from going to bed too late. you’d rush to get ready, and jon would find you in courtyard or something, while you were hurrying to get wherever you were going.

he’d bite his tongue to keep himself from laughing. he’d take a breathe, willing himself not to grin too hard. “for a well educated and well brought up person, my lady, you really do know how to make it look like you’ve never lived a routine day in your life.”

you’d roll your eyes, waving him away. “it’s a real talent of mine. now hush, im tired and im late.”

he’d smile, holding out his arm for you to take. “i’ll walk with you, my lady. make sure you get where you’re going without further incident. i have a feeling you may need the assistance.”

he’d laugh even harder as you glared at him, grudgingly taking his arm. but you’d know he wasn’t trying to be mean, and that he actually very much enjoyed your company. him teasing you brought a smile too his face, and you were willing to accept it if it meant you got to see him smile more.

How does the timeline work in the scientist au? You mentioned that P03 was separated from their dad so how does that happen? Why don't they reunite sooner? Is it because of scrybe duties or something else? Do any of the other scrybes also have relatives or is P03's dad the main focus?

Sorry for so many questions, I'm just a very curious soul lmao

OH, I'LL GLADLY RAMBLE ABOUT IT. Honestly, the only reason I didn't explain this earlier because I sometimes feel kinda embarrassed about my AUs and ideas djfhfj

So, the AU is called Mystery of the Scrybe and it's actually an AU for my OC, but I'll just focus on P03 here. So first, worldbuilding;

There are two continents that. I am still very much developing. I actually auto-generated a map for it and I wish I altered it a bit more but my potato laptop was having a stroke everytime I wanted to alter something so this is all I've got:

P03 was originally from the larger continent on the right, I'll explain how he got to the other one in a hot second. Anyway, there are actually more than 4 scrybes and they are generally seen as leaders of their communities, are long-living (not actually immortal but close enough) and usually have some sort of power/ability or two relating to what they're the scrybe of. They're way less common on the continent/culture P03 originated from.

So with that down; P03's father is Dr Howard Cook, a brilliant engineer employed by some big corporation. He worked at a lab in a rural area with his colleague Dr Jonathan Johnson and two assistants, Ludwig Lovelace and Clark Harris. Howard was well-off and content in his life; he was a middle-aged man who never really considered starting a family with anyone (acearo rights babyyy) but always wanted to be a father. He eventually decided he really did want a child, but for whatever reason instead of adopting a child he decided to make it instead.

P03 started as a simple AI on a computer that Howard developed with time and made it so that P03 would learn and develop on its own with time. And Jon helped made them, though very reluctantly. Aside from Howard, Clark was the first one to get attached to P03, even when it was a simple AI on a computer, since he's a big sweetheart and it wasn't hard for him to see P03 on the same level as a human child. Then Howard and Jonathan eventually developed a place-holder humanoid body for P03 that it could use to interact with the world. They taught him how to walk and use his hands, and stuff like that, and gave him a LED mask for a face. It was hard for P03 to replicate human speech and expressions at first, so for the time being it would display text on it's face to communicate. Ludwig was the next one to get attached to the little robot, though he showed affection in his own kind of distant way. But seeing P03 behave like a little kid would did make the last two eventually get sold on the idea of this, and they helped raise him. Clark even made P03 a sweater, saying he was worried they'd get cold even when it was explained to him that P03 couldn't perceive temperatures (he's a little dumb but he's got the spirit 💜). P03 very quickly came to consider the other three to be its family too, calling them its uncles.

It was when P03 was about the age of a 12-year-old child that the word of Howard's secret project got out. His employers reasoned that since P03 was developed by him in their lab then it belonged to them and tried to pressure Howard into handing the robot over, while the local people weren't too keen on this pretty isolated weird scientist playing god by creating sentient AIs in their town and wanted to get rid of P03. So, Howard decided it'd be best if they switched locations, for P03's safety, but as they were preparing to leave they were caught off-guard by an angry mob. Howard told his three friends to take P03, some essential things like the blueprints for a future bot he wanted to create (G0lly), and go while he would distract the angry townsfolk. They got a considerable distance away when the three decided they couldn't just let Howard die and needed to get back to him, so they hid P03 and told him to stay put while they went to get his father. That pretty much saved Howard's life, as he was seriously injured, which would leave him disabled for the rest of his life.

But as you can imagine, P03, being a scared kid, did not stay put. I am still unsure about what exactly happened, but he got lost and his caretakers couldn't find him again. After months they concluded P03 was either dead or got kidnapped, and they couldn't do anything. Howard was devastated. He retired early and faked his own death and moved away for his own safety. His three friends did the same and lived with him, eventually taking the roles of his caregivers as his disability and age eventually started getting to him.

Meantime, P03 somehow managed to survive by himself, and eventually made it across the sea to the new continent. He didn't know how to go back home, and part of him was scared to even go back, worried that he might find his family dead or the people that wanted to hurt him would get him. But his dad designed him to learn and develop by himself, so he did, and he started upgrading himself with time. He managed to survive on his own for some years before eventually taking residency in Bottopia, which is a city of its own in this AU, and eventually started training under the resident scrybes there (the uberbots). The three helped it upgrade its body into a more and more human-looking model, just as it wanted, and it actually took traits from his father and uncles to design itself.

But living in Bottopia never quite felt right and eventually, P03 decided to leave to find a place where he'd belong and maybe even become a scrybe in the meantime. Eventually, it decided it'd be a good idea to construct that bot its father was once working on as it still had the blueprints. G0lly was originally designed to be its sibling, and P03 planned to keep it that way, but it did not go according to plan at all. Naturally, being her only caregiver, G0lly started seeing P03 as a parental figure, who eventually relented and accepted his role as her father. He was a bit nervous about it at first, suddenly being very afraid of making any mistakes and fretting over G0lly more than he should; he did prepare himself to raise his sibling, but being a parent instead somehow hit him differently and he wasn't mentally prepared for that. He did eventually come to care for her in a parental way and he mellowed out with time.

He eventually arrived at the archipelago and challenged the three scrybes there. He originally didn't plan to stay there, but they seemed like kind people, the place was nice and G0lly seemed to like it so in the end, he decided to stay there, and the other three scrybes gladly welcomed them as one of their own. They actually helped raise G0lly afterwards, often taking care of her while P03 was working on constructing his factory and bots (who were designed based on its uncles because it's a sappy bastard).

25+ years after the incident that separated him from his family; by this point, P03 has settled in the archipelago and is content there. G0lly was all grown up and became a scrybe of her own, now residing in Bottopia (which P03 was happy about since he trusted she'd be safe with his old friends). P03 would eventually confide in his fellow scrybes and partner about what happened over two decades ago and that partly why he never went back was because he was afraid that he'd find his family dead. But he got bullied convinced by others to go find his father anyway. So, they did, they packed up their old things and set off for a few months.

When he arrived in his hometown, he heard that his father was dead, which obviously devastated him but he still hoped that he could at least find his uncles. Eventually, they found out where they lived and went there. It was an old mansion in the middle of the forest in mountains, far far away from any major cities.

Because of all the shit that went down, they did not take well to unexpected visitors, and Howard's old friends were determined to protect him (after all, they already failed him once and felt the need to make up for losing his kid). So, you can imagine they did not take well to some stranger walking onto their property. All of them obviously aged in the two decades and P03 looked nothing like they did as a child, so none of them recognised each other and this misunderstanding very quickly turned violent.

Howard actually came outside to check out what the fuck was all that ruckus about. Thankfully, he spotted the bag P03 dropped during its attempts at not getting shot by a maniac with a shotgun and the old man immediately recognised the items inside. He tells them to quiet down and then very sternly asks P03 where he'd get these. P03 stumbles over his words for a second, he's still recoiling from almost getting hit in the face with a crowbar (Jon has a mean swing for a twink), but he finally composes himself and goes "It's from my dad and uncles, they gave me these when I was a kid. I'm just looking for them." And at that, they all immediately stop and just look at him in a mix of shock and confusion. Howard's voice breaks as he chokes out "P03?" And the bot blinks in surprise, "How do you know my-" but then it hits them; that voice sounded awfully familiar, older, rougher yet still familiar. "Dad?"

P03 runs up to him and the two embrace, sobbing loudly, just happy to see each other again. After a long while, Howard finally lets his kid go, and P03 immediately goes to hug their uncles. The 5 of them go inside and talk for a long while. P03 finds out that his dad was actually diagnosed with cancer lately and was considered not treating it, but now that P03 is here that thought immediately went out the window; they decide that Howard will sell his house and he and P03's uncles will come live with P03. They don't know how well cancer will respond to treatment, but worst case scenario at least the two of them will get a few months together before Howard passes away.

And that's pretty much where the story's at; P03's family live in the town close to his factory and he comes to visit them every day. G0lly also eventually gets introduced to them.

let's play a game, everytime Julia says some variation of "my father was a serial killer when I was little" everybody takes a shot

this episode feels to me, after cursed books and trash bags full of teeth, like this quotes from John Mulaney

Like, you come here to have a good time, pulse play, and the very first thing Julia says is MY FATHER WAS A MURDERER. Damn, it escalates really quickly xD

Don't get me wrong, this story it's tragic and all that, it's just my inability to take anything seriously talking. It didn't scare me tho, but I was disturbed by its "normality" ngl

Small review:

*insert cheerful voice from teleshopping comercials* do you want second hand trauma? are you in the need of unblocking a new phobia? you are in the correct place!

Every single time there's a Rayner in the podcast is like, uh, another weirdo, and it's not like Jon is the most normal person ever, it's just so freaking funny, like that snail from Adventure Time, you Know?

Tragedy, tragedy, and more tragedy with a side of worldbuilding that tastes like a filler episode. If it looks like a filler, tastes like a filler and sounds like a filler, is it a filler? (no)

The post-statement part it's not funny, it's straight up academic follow up of a succession of facts and then it hits you with that last paragraph like a hammer.

General overview:

Vibe: it starts straight to the point, no detours, and keeps escalating constantly while you mutter wtfwtfwtfwtf and then it just kills you

Horror: it's not spooky, it's worrying, disturbing

Audio: good audio

Humour: the only funny thing here is how I thought I was going to sleep that night (I didn't)

Score: 10/10
