My shadowgast future family is very funny cause the emtionally constipated wizards are the ones who end up raising more children:

A changeling type of creature that they find in the ruins of Aeor

A biological child from Essek and Caleb

A biological child from Caleb and Kingsley

One of Calebs apprentices who run from her own home and has been living on the streets ever since

A small tabaxi who came in a matching set with the previously mentioned apprentice

And,in my au where Ashton has a beacon inside of his head,they also act as a parental figures for them. They dont necessarily adopt him but them and Kingsley do imprint a lot of their teachings onto them

In my shadowgast family au,the idea of Caleb showing their children that one room in the tower that contains Calebs childhood home and then,across generations,every wizard that gets to build a magic tower recreating it in their own spaces,making the memory live for hundreds of years even tho it was burned before any of them were born...yeah,that would be nice

Some people were doing children for the Mighty Nein post finale so I wanted to show what I had thought for Caleb and Essek

First theres Dreckigmond, a half drow learning magic from their fathers and applying it towards constructing magic objects

Then theres Lauffeuer, a fire genasi and former transmutation apprentice of Caleb adopted by them after they realized the poor living conditions she was in

And alongside Lauffeuer, Fahrenwilde, a small tabaxi girl under Lauffeuer's protection who thinks of her as a big sister and loves the cats of the household very much

So abt the shadowgast children, how did Ashton come into the picture, what forms does the changeling like to take? Also whats the order from oldest to youngest?

How did Ashton come into the picture?:

Based on the Clasp symbol on their trousers I don't think they would shy away from a life of crime so the first time he comes into contact with the nein is by working under Kingsley when he was very young and starting to look up to him. When Caleb and Essek eventually meet them they realize pretty quickly that the rock inside Ashtons head is not a rock but its instead a beacon.

So they part time take him back to their house to investigate what the heck is going on but also end up becoming Ashtons parental figures and they gladly take up that role as parents,and they were very good at it! They understood Ashtons needs and wants and did their best to provide so.

They were also very supportive of Ashtons decision to live on Marquet when he grew up and they teleport to see him frequently

What forms does the changeling take?

The form that they usually take is the form of a humanoid of average height and a lean complexion with round features. Their skin is purple and semitranslucent with white freckles across their face. Their hair is white and a little stringy but ethereal,reaching just to their chest. Their eyes are almost white and have just the faint hint of grey on them. In this form they seem to glow ever so slightly that you would doubt if they are really glowing or if its a trick of the eye. They conciously change their form to match the growth of a normal child

When taking other forms they take inspiration of those around them:humans,tieflings,half orcs and elves. They dont have a preference for these forms but they like to keep their hair the same length

They also love to use their form changes to pull harmless pranks on people

Order from oldest to youngest?

The first spot is a tie between the changeling and Ashton. While Ashton seems to be older,they have no idea of the changelings age. They could be some creature who originated from Aeor or a weird child who find their way to the ruins...somehow

Lauffeuer is the next older child,just a couple of months older than Dreckigmond

Dreckigmond is the oldest biological kid of Caleb and esseks only child. It does make them very mad that Lauffeuer is some months older than them

Yet to be named,Kingsley and Calebs child is also the youngest biological one in the household. Essek sees him as his child so he unofficially adopted him

Fahrenwilde is the youngest i. The household and is spoiled as such

Bonus info! In what order did they join the household?

The changeling was found on the ruins of Aeor on the post-finale research fic

Ashton joined less than a year after the changeling. It wasn't supposed to be permanent but there they are

Dreckigmond was born a couple of months after Ashton arrived

Then Caleb and Kingsleys child was born roughly 5 or 6 years later

Lastly Lauffeuer and Fahrenwilde were adopted at the same time. They stuck together on the streets and were like each others sisters
