not only do i think gendry will be unbothered by arya being a warg i think theres of tons of stuff to compare and contrast between arya’s bond to nymeria and her dynamic with gendry.

nymeria and arya share a soul. the bond between a warg and their wolf is compared to that of a marriage. this is the closest arya will ever be to another being because they literally share a consciousness. arya feels what nymeria feels, sees what she sees, tastes what she tastes, ect. arya is forced to leave nymeria in the riverlands after the incident on the trident. arya goes from believing nymeria is the only one who loves her to fearing her own wolf will hate her. she is filled with doubt in herself and her identity without her wolf. but no matter how strained nymeria is still a tether to arya’s true name. 

when she meets gendry he becomes that too. 

"Lommy and Hot Pie can't know," she said. "They won't," he swore. "Not from me." "Arya." She raised her eyes to his. "My name is Arya. Of House Stark." (Arya, ACOK)

among the night’s watch recruits arya ends up seeing gendry as someone she can confide in. he is wanted by the crown - same as arya. because of this arya tells gendry her true name. to everyone else she is arry, weasel, and nan but gendry knows the truth. gendry sees the real arya and she can be herself with him. gendry never betrays arya to anyone and even actively protects her identity from others. 

She was no little girl in the dream; she was a wolf, huge and powerful, and when she emerged from beneath the trees in front of them and bared her teeth in a low rumbling growl, she could smell the rank stench of fear from horse and man alike. (Arya, ASOS)

"She's my sister." Gendry put a heavy hand on the old man's shoulder, and squeezed. "Leave her be." The man turned, spoiling for a quarrel, but when he saw Gendry's size he thought better of it. (Arya, ASOS)

he doesn’t just protect her identity either. nymeria and gendry both protect arya from harm. gendry actually has more opportunity to look out for arya as he is a closer companion, but nymeria comes thru too. she cuts the bloody mummers off after they are sent to recapture arya and the boys. 

Arya bit her lip. He means to leave me too.

As Arya was cinching her saddle girth, Gendry came up to say that he was sorry. She put a foot in the stirrup and swung up into her saddle, so she could look down on him instead of up. You could have made swords at Riverrun for my brother, she thought, but what she said was, "If you want to be some stupid outlaw knight and get hanged, why should I care? I'll be at Riverrun, ransomed, with my brother." (Arya, ASOS)

but like nymeria, gendry is left behind. first, he chose to join the bwb and arya is hurt by his choice. she lashes out with her words. she pushes him even further away not unlike throwing the rocks at nymeria. its really reminiscent of arya telling nymeria she didnt want her anymore. she doesnt mean it. she wanted him to stay with her just like she wanted nymeria. then, arya is kidnapped by the hound. then, she flees westeros altogether. 

gendry and nymeria remain in the riverlands. nymeria hunts around the trident where she was left by arya. gendry is posted at arya’s last known location: the inn at the crossroads. this is no accidental posting. he is there for arya. boy and wolf both remain steadfast despite her disappearance. 

the groups that both belong to have increasingly dark reputations. nymeria’s pack has long been feared by those in the riverlands. a reputation which has actually been blown out of proportion, but they can do damage. the brotherhood start off with good intentions until lady stoneheart’s reign at which point their mission takes a darker turn. 

gendry follows the undead remnants of catelyn stark and he follows the god that brought her back. he has seen magic. he is no stranger to that part of the world. arya being a warg is no weirder than the dead walking. at some point she will be reunited with her wolf and her blacksmith boy. the direwolves have often been used to signify the starklings feeling towards other so i think a meeting between the two would be meaningful.

Now the crown is with Lady Stoneheart who is, among other things, looking for Arya with the BwB.

Many agree that a meeting between these two is inevitable due to foreshadowing and the narrative and thematic relationship that binds them.

Imo if when this meeting takes place LS will decide to pass the crown to Arya. In this hypothetical situation she is the only one of her children still alive (as far as LS knows) so I think it makes sense.

I know that there are theories that LS will go north to crown Jon and fulfill Robb's will. But to me this contradicts the characterization of Cat and the actions she has taken since she was resurrected.

Will Arya gladly accept the crown willingly? I don't know, probably not. But it wouldn't surprise me if she ends up being considered sort of an outlaws queen for a while. I think Arya will decide to continue her journey north, but this time she won't do it alone. And then she will pass the crown on to the revived Jon Snow.

It makes sense that Jon is the king of winter from a thematic point of view, but also and above all from a practical one, because there is a will that legitimizes him and because he is the only "Stark" mature enough and prepared for this role.

Also it seems to me that “Girls get the arms but not the swords. Bastards get the swords but not the arms” necessity of a closure. Jon gave Arya a sword, now it's Arya's turn.

Not sure according to which dynamic Jon will end up giving up the crown, but I am convinced that the summer king of the endgame must be Bran. This is one of the few GoT points that seems to have been confirmed by Martin and I expect it to happen.

Of course this is just speculation. And Rickon and Sansa are a little bit of a question mark. A lot of this will depend on the order in which the characters return to the North and the order in which they reunite. Feel free to add the order in which you think this will happen and how you think it might affect the story!

I don't think about it too often because I'm usually busy thinking about the lost potential of Swan Queen but holy shit the lost potential that is Outlaw Queen gets to me too.

Like here you have this folk hero who is basically the symbol of class struggle and selfless bravery, and we never get to see any of that? When we first meet Robin Hood, his goal is a selfish (albeit understandable) one. He wants to save his wife and unborn child.

We don't actually get to see him do the take from the rich, give to the poor thing he's so infamous for until seaaon 4. And even then, his main focus is once again on Marian. He's not helping her for purely selfless reasons; he wants a relationship with her.

Now imagine if we'd gotten the hero version of Robin Hood, the guy who hates mindless cruelty and stands against inequality. He really does steal from the rich to give to the poor. He turned his back on his own title and nobility to go live in the woods with a group of people who have nothing but the clothes on their back and a better vision for the world. He's the thorn in the side of every royal in the realm. Maybe he was even personal friends with Snow White at one point (seriously they have very similar backgrounds and a strong connection to Regina, why do they never interact?).

And then he meets Regina and she comes from basically the exact inverse of his own situation. Her mother had nothing but with cunning wit and determination she managed to claw herself into a position of nobility. She hurt and stepped on a lot of people on her way up but didn't care. All that mattered was increasing her social position.

Regina for her part, doesn't care about money or status. She fell in love with a stable boy and was willing to throw away everything her mother had won for a quiet life with just enough to get by and be happy.

But then things changed. Her love was murdered and she was forced into a marriage with a king. In her spiral into darkness, she clung to the title of queen for some semblance of power and agency.

She grew accustomed to indulging her every whim. She razed villages to the ground. She sneered at anyone who was "beneath" her.

Even after her supposed redemption, she still looks down on those with less than her. She meets Robin and the insults fly freely from her mouth. He's a smelly forest dwelling peasant. It's hate at first sight.

She's responsible for hurting people he's loved, for killing his wife, and yet they're soul mates. What an interesting dynamic that would be to explore and yet they barely scratch the surface.

All we get is some light teasing back and forth and then he handwaves away her entire past because she's changed or whatever and I guess they're in love now.

disclaimer: most of this is me being very nitpicky. rose was a side character for all of these appearances so obv i understand that its not gonna be perfect characterization. but i rly like talking about rose characterization so this is just me pulling apart her appearances for fun <3

i LOVE the jason & rose dynamic. im not much of a jayrose fan but since its happening im glad that its like this. i love that its so much "rose is excessively horny and jason is giving her nothing" bc its so in character for both of them. shes fucking with him and he does not know how to reciprocate. they r so sillies

HOWEVER. rose would not just hang around him like shes doing. as much as i like that dynamic i feel like he also has to at least sometimes show that hes. you know. interested in having her around. shes just kinda tagging along and i wish there was a reason why she would put up with him never giving her anything, especially since she has a tendency to leave at the first sign of not being wanted

on a completely different note, im a little disappointed that shes wearing her old costume instead of the new one she has in btbatb/kt ravager. i appreciate that shes still drawn like an adult but i rly like her new costume so im sad that she doesnt have it

shes so lame <3 i talked about this moment a lot when this issue first released but i love it. "somebody had all the fun without us" upon finding a body, then realizing someone else was there and just. starts shooting. she doesnt hit anything. she doesnt even know where the other person is.

my big problem here is that she does not carry a gun and pretty much never uses guns. honestly now that im thinking about it this is one of the only times shes ever used a gun on panel (the other times i can think of being: shooting wade off a cliff after her mom died, shooting starfire in n52 outlaws (but new 52 rose barely even counts as rose), and using deathstroke's gun when she was pretending to be him in deathstroke 2016)

shes not anti-gun or anything but it still bothers me just a little that suddenly she has a gun (hence why i fully believe she stole jasons gun <3)

if i want to nitpick, kate should not have been able to hit her. rose should've seen she was coming wayyy before (bc precog) and she wouldnt be knocked down from one hit. i fear we are headed down a path of her becoming jasons incompetent girlfriend but i wont be too dramatic about her getting hit one (1) time

but other than that i thought this was a fun moment of rose getting hit then jason immediately fighting the person that hit her. toxic girlbesties fr

this is a nice issue for her just because in true rose tradition she LOVES to have homoerotic fights with every other female character she interacts with. the kate & rose dynamic was soooo fun i love it when shes mean to people for no reason <3

i did not like this part though. i feel like there are a lot of implications about rose here that are unfair to her character & her place in the dcu. i'll meet the book on its own terms and say that we're only talking about post-52 rose (blah blah everything's canon rn but this book is very clearly not using pre-52 rose lore) but even then? theres no real reason for her to be ducking superheroes or for superheroes to keep an eye on her. shes not a villain or even much of a killer, the fact that shes "staying off the radars" of good guys doesnt make much sense. and the fact that kate knows her and "studies" her (fellas is it gay to study another woman despite never meeting her) implies that rose is like. a threat. shes just kind of around there is no reason kate should know her like that

cute moment! but also it bothers me. i think its fun that she refused to go since its not her fight and she doesnt want to get into a joker mess. HOWEVER. when has she ever in her life passed up an opportunity to get involved in someone elses problem. to me she wouldnt have even delivered the list of addresses without a fight if she wasnt gonna go along

other than her using a gun again (where the hell did she even get that) i like this <3 her showing up and saving manhunter after she said she didnt care what happened is so her. also i just like the fact that she shot joker

okay first of all i LOVE that he took her along. there was no reason for rose to be here but jason was told to meet someone and said "ok ill go but my weird friend comes with me" its so funny

ive seen a lot of people complain about the "you're my only friend" line but i LOVE it. not necessarily because she doesnt have any friends but because she would not in a million years ADMIT that she has friends. she would rather be shot in the head than say that she actually likes the people that she hangs out with.

but to be fair.... she also doesnt have friends. "what about the lazarus island gang?" the only person she actually liked there and showed any friendship toward was damian, and they ARE friends but she considers him more of a little brother than a friend. "what about the teen titans??" a) she would NEVER admit that she is friends with any of them b) its technically.... not really canon that she was ever on the same team as them. like i said before, im meeting this book on its terms, and rose being a teen titan hasnt been mentioned since flashpoint :( i wont go on a whole tangent about her friends but given that she hasnt really made a friend in years and never talks to anyone else, i think its fair for her to say that she has no friends

so yeah all this to say: she has friends, but it is 100% in character for her to say that she has no friends. i stand by this line

i dont have much to say here i just think shes so cute <3 i also love the fact that jason jumped straight to "rose is robbing a dead person" instead of "rose is inspecting the body"

but im OBSESSED with the fact that she DOES rob him. i feel like we're not talking about this enough. she saw a dead body and took his money. im not even mad about it because its so fucking funny to me

im sorry jay/rose fans this makes me want to vomit. this feels too "earnest emotions" for both of them. the rest of this scene was fine but this panel specifically feels so :/

"i just need help" "always" and "please take care of yourself" and "meet at our spot" "promise?" "i promise" does not feel like them at all. its a very sweet and genuine moment but they would NOT have sweet and genuine moments! neither of them would ever express their feelings and they would not have this conversation

this does not feel like rose at all idk who this is. where is the rage!!!!!! where is the anger!!!!!!! why did she stand there for hours just. worried about him. why isnt she lashing out

comparing this to the scene in tt03 where she's worried about eddie:

she gets angry! shes worried about him and starts yelling at everyone around her because hes hurt and she doesnt know whats happening. i would have LOVED this energy in this book and its sooooo disappointing that she just. stands there like 🥺 when she doesnt know what happened to jason

very minor complaint here but this isnt even true . she DOES try to run into him in ds16 when slade kidnaps damian and rose gives bruce the ransom terms. also i feel like this line is vaguely implying that she HAS found him (/he found her) on accident before which is also not true given that their only interactions are in ds16 and being in the same general area in shadow war. and also reiterating that shes not a villain so batman has no reason to track her down or cause problems for her but. whatever. this is entirely just me jumping to conclusions about what this one throwaway line means and then getting mad about it

LOVE this. she inserted herself into the situation then complains about it. this isnt her business and shes making sure that jason knows it. but also she completely volunteered for most of this

"please dont kick my ass" she would NOT say that!!!!! first of all given that this is after gotham war she would probably kick his ass just for what he did to jason. even besides that she would not be afraid of him even a little. comparing their convo in ds16 #5 to this is so sad bc </3 why is she afraid of him instead of being a huge bitch and yelling at him

this ending is really good for her though. she absolutely would dive into the water with joker gas, trash, and dead bodies just to save her friend <3

this is more like it!!!!!!!! shes worried for him and takes initiative to save him by jumping in the water despite it being a very dangerous decision and then insults him while she saves his life <3333 its a tiny bit more of her being mean to express worry which is nice <3 its not perfect but its closer

in conclusion: there are many good moments. there are many parts i like about it. but there are just so many things that dont feel like rose </3 most of the broad strokes are there but it just doesnt feel like her when shes not full of rage and going out of her way to piss people off

This was widely regarded as bad move for the entire universe but today I’m screaming about ROY HARPER They took everything interesting about Roy and just threw it out the window. Roy being a single father? Nope, Lian doesn’t exist anymore. His complex relationship with Ollie? Gone. His long and storied history with the Titans? The Titans never happened. Roy overcoming his drug addiction? Well let’s just make him alcoholic since addictions are easily interchangeable, right? Also instead of his established friends and family helping him through it it’s Jason Todd and fucking KILLER CROC Then his personality. Scott Lobdell wanted Jason Todd (his self insert power fantasy) to look good so much he made Roy an idiot to prop Jason up. Compare this with his relationship to Dick pre-52. Roy and Dick are friends but they fight and butt heads as the two leader types both in the Titans and the Outsiders. Also he dated Kory, of all people. Badly written and even worse designed new 52 Kory. I might type up a rant about her treatment at some point if I feel like it. Bonus info: Roy is one of THREE members of the Arrowfam who got shoved into a Bat book and written OOC. First him in RHATO, then Connor Hawke in Robin and Lian in Catwoman. Istg they better bring back Mia in the new GA and not batgirls or smth

RED HOOD AND THE OUTLAWS DID HIM SO FUCKING DIRTY I WANNA CRY They changed his character to become the dumb sidekick! They changed his past drug addiction to alcoholism (and made him side kick of a character who ran a drug cartel?), they erased his Navajo heritage and tattoos to change them for some random ass edgy tattoos, the Roy Harper in RHatO is unrecognisable which is a SHAME because the actual Roy Harper could've had a really interesting dynamic with the other characters but nooooo, Lobdell had to ruin him Also, don't get me started on how they massacred him in Arrowverse

They changed his whole backstory - removing parts of his upbringing such as his being raised on a first nations reservation, changing his addiction from heroin to aloholism, removing many of his friendships and dynamics in order to make him a prop for another character (Jason Todd), destroying his relatonship with his adopted father (Oliver Queen).

Helpful Info for the Family Tree

Just because I realized that I keep posting terms I came up with and I don’t know if I’ve explained them. I’ll probably be linking back to this post a lot when I mention the Three Strict Rules, Changed Cultural Concepts, Definitions, and Guiding Principles

Rules

These are the three hard rules I work with for the family tree rewrite stuff.

1. Three generation separation.

Cats MUST have more than 3 generations of separation to be eligible partners. This means that a hard line is drawn if two cats share a grandparent; no 1st cousin pairings.

 - Addendum: This rule applies to an extra generation if the great-grandparent is still alive, or has two or more living children to remember. This is Onestar’s Exception, named for a very uncomfortable scene in his Super Edition.

This is the chart I use for a visual to double-check.

2. Two reproductive kit maximum.

TWO kits of a pairing at maximum can go on to have reproductive grandkits of their own, even though there is no limit on the amount of litters a pairing can produce.

 - Exception: A third kit can leave their home clan and have kittens elsewhere. 

3. There can be sireless litters.

Queens do not have to reveal the sire of their litters. It’s normal for litters to not have a sire. There are other changes to who can or can’t be the father of a litter, see changed concepts.

Changed Cultural Concepts

1. Queen’s Rights

For an in-depth lesson on this in-universe concept, GO HERE

These are Rights that a queen invokes to not reveal the sire of her litter. It was formed in response to the Mapleshade incident; and is an addendum to the law that all kits must be protected regardless of origin.

The reasoning is that if it’s known that a litter is half-clan, it could force the Clan to enforce consequences on the mother, which could punish the kits for the circumstances of her birth. If a queen has violated the code, it is up to StarClan to judge them.

Sometimes even the suspicion of having half-clan kittens can be detrimental to the parents or the children. The Queen’s Rights replaced and outlawed an older tradition; Kitten Stealing.

2. Honor-siring

It isn’t uncommon for respected warriors or leaders to be asked to surrogate a litter. This does not make the two warriors mates; the two cats might co-parent the litter, or it might just be one.

3. Apprentice/Mentor pairings

Are eliminated in-universe. Completely gone. I will never allow one. Mentors are trusted with an apprentice that they’re supposed to guide into adulthood. For a mentor to take interest in their apprentice, even later in life, is taboo for good reason.

Definitions, Guiding Principles

An Orphan Warrior is what I’m calling canon characters that have no parents, siblings, or kits. Ultimately my goal is to un-orphan every warrior post-Mapleshade’s Vengeance.

I try to limit age gaps as much as possible. The acceptable range is 0 - 4 years; more than that would look more like an honor-siring if I can’t eliminate it completely (such as with Pinestar and Leopardfoot).

I do not create OCs for this rewrite. I either save kits that would have died, shuffle families, rearrange litters, and so on. For example, Fernsong has been changed into an ex-kittypet, Onestar is no longer the brother of Ashfoot and Morningflower, and Marshkit survives to become Marshwing.

I like to diversify sibling dynamics, to make sure there are more older/younger siblings of varying ages, just because it’s more interesting like that.

I rename ‘duplicate‘ warriors, and the more important warrior gets priority. For example, the Dark Forest’s Frecklewish keeps her name, and SkyClan’s Frecklewish becomes Frecklewing.

I will try to preserve existing families, within reason, if it still works out that their descendants won’t conflict within the 3 generation rule.

“Calamity Joe!” Frankie called at seeing Keri being carried over to the table at the bar by Angel, clung on around him like a little koala bear on a big tree. “What did you do?”  

“Showing off,” Ash voiced, who was carrying their three boards. “Again!”  

“I landed off one of the bigger ramps a little too sharply, lost the tail and did a somersault. Kinda fell funny on my ankle.” She poked her bottom lip, looking so adorable, Angel placing her down in a seat. “Aaron left, by the way. Got an Uber home. I kinda get the impression he still isn’t cool about my choices being mine alone, but that’s on him.”  

Rachel, Frankie and Jaime nodded knowingly, but Ash looked lost. “Somebody wanna fill me in?” He then seemed to recall something. “Oh! Is this what the scumbag comment was about? I wasn’t really paying attention. There was a platinum blonde coming down the hill, and that’s my preferred type, you know?”  

Angel sat beside him, fist bumping him for his comment before removing his arm from his thick jacket and rolling up his sleeve, tapping his Mayans tattoo. “This is what he don’t like.”

Ash’s mouth dropped open. “No way, bro. You’re an outlaw?” he exclaimed quietly. “That’s so badass!” He then drummed his hands off the table before standing. “Alright! I’ve been MIA for weeks so I’m figuring it’s my round first. Usual, everyone? Angel, come help me carry, man. We’ll get shots, too, start Friday early. Fuck it, I’ll wheel my bike round the back and come get it tomorrow, let’s drink.”  

Another fist bump was exchanged, the guys getting up and heading inside to the bar. It rolled right off Ash’s back, a total non-issue. That was him through and through, though. He was very accepting of people from all walks of life. Heck, it was his family dynamic, his mother a free-spirited Korean woman whose family had moved over when she was six and spent most of her late teens and early twenties hitchhiking around Europe and America, meeting his father, the trainee forensic accountant when she arrived in Reno.

“See, why can’t Aaron be like Ash?” Keri sighed, reaching across the table and stealing one of Frankie’s cigarettes.

“Because not everyone has a mom like Sook. I mean, the woman travelled through Texas with a charter of Hell’s Angels, after all. Remember she told us that? And the punks she lived with in London?” Frankie reminded her.

“And the drag queens in New York?” Jaime interjected with.

Frankie pointed at her girlfriend with a nod. “Yeah, them too. Ash has grown up with all of these stories, so it’s made him more open minded. You know Aaron is only concerned for you, no matter how frustrating it might be. Did he even talk to Angel much?”

Keri shrugged, taking a long drag on her cigarette. “It was mostly Angel making an effort. Aaron wasn’t rude, per say, but he didn’t engage more than he needed to.”  

“Well, so far I think he’s great, these two seem to love him, and I think Ash has a new guy crush, so that tells you a lot right there, doesn’t it?” Rachel added to the conversation. “And I am absolutely, hand on heart envious. He’s divine!”  

“And so far, from what I’ve seen, really nice guy, too. He’s engaging, he’s funny, he’s real. I like him,” Frankie offered, Jaime nodding.

“He has good energy. I like his aura.”

Rachel rolled her eyes, but her face was loving. “I knew you’d say that, babe.”  

As if further solidifying himself in her friend’s estimations, Angel returned with Ash after a few further minutes, carrying with him a towel full of ice. “Gimme your foot.” Keri obliged, Angel unlacing her boot and then resting her foot in his lap, holding the knotted towel to her ankle. Immediately, she let out a little whine, and it was so adorable, Angel felt his heartstrings tug. “I know, tiny. You’re just lucky it ain’t broken, only sprained.”

“If you’d have been on ski’s, K, you probably would have,” Ash added, leaning around Angel and passing her a shot of Jagermeister, everyone bar the driving duo of Rachel and Jaime sinking them, and Ash, who’d chosen something bright green and apple flavoured. “I dunno how you guys can drink that stuff. It’s like death in brown liquid form.”  

“Just because you can’t drink to save your life,” Rachel reminded him with a wink, Angel turning to him with a curiously raised eyebrow.

“Our boy here is a lightweight. Feather light,” Frankie nodded.

Ash was quick in his protesting. “Hey, I’m getting better! I had no choice but to recently. Went on a date with a girl from Tinder, she was there early and had bought me a drink. And so she’s hot, right, so hot, and she says she can’t date a man who doesn’t drink bourbon, so we’re on the fucking Jim Beam right from the first moment. I swear I matched her drink for drink, went and threw up, felt sober again and carried on, but all on an empty stomach, so I was wasted by 9pm and working my balls off to keep up the pretence I was fine.”  

“And you didn’t fall over?” Keri asked, sipping her beer.

“Nah, I’m leaving that to you this week, short stack,” he winked, grinning over his glass.  

“Oh, so you’re funny when mixed with bourbon!”

He shuddered instantly. “Never again. I had to let her down there, because I swear, if I even so much as smell that stuff again, I’ll throw up, or pass out. Probably both. I’m not her guy, if I can’t just drink beer than nope.”

“That’s like me and vodka, mano,” Angel revealed, lighting a cigarette. “I can’t drink it, not after sharing a bottle with a girl I was dating in high school and throwing up all over the damned place. I have never, ever been ejected from an apartment that fast in my life, didn’t even get laid either. Fucking sucked. Then on the way home I ended up getting cornered by a damned rattlesnake.”

The whole table then suddenly pointed at Keri, Ash leading the explanation. “Same thing happened to her when these guys went on a photography trip right out to the eastern borders of the state, and I went along for a day out. I had to run like fucking Superman, haul her over my shoulder and then quietly get the hell out of there before it struck her. She was just standing there screaming, frozen to the spot. My dad’s fucking nuts, though. We don’t get many around our house, we’re too urban, but if he’s anywhere where he encounters snakes and they won’t go away on their own, he stands on the back of their head gently, picks them up and flings them!”

“Yeah, he’s doing the right thing. That’s what I do now, too. Usually they just want to be left alone, but if one’s antagonised, sometimes you don’t get any choice. Especially if it’s in your house. We get loads in Santo Padre, because we’re basically a town right on the fucking desert. See, I got bite scars here,” he began, pointing to his hand, “here, and here,” he continued, showing the ones on his arms. “I don’t always have the best of luck with animals, man. I got a scar on my ass from being gored by a bull.”

The whole table looked interested by that, Angel going on to reveal the story. “So, my buddy Coco and I were drunk one time, he used to be in the military and was home on leave, and we decided to go cow tipping. Except we were much too drunk to notice the sign on the paddock gate that stated there was a bull within, and yep, he got me. Threw me straight back over the damned fence with a hole in my ass cheek, while Coco laughed so much, I think he did actually piss himself a little bit.”  

“Oh look,” Frankie laughed. “We got Calamity Joe 2.0 here!”  

“Why do I get the impression you have an entire catalogue of stories like that you could share?” Keri asked, Angel balancing the ice towel on her ankle so he could pick up his beer.  

“Because I do,” he winked, grinning. “I got some successes as well. Like when I was with a girl who kept horses, and I wanted to go get more alcohol but was too over the limit to take my bike, so I took one of her horses to the local liquor store. Rode him inside and everything, didn’t wanna leave the dude out there alone. The staff were too busy falling apart with laughter to yell at me, so I just grabbed the beer, got a bottle of tequila and a pack of smokes, threw it all into my backpack, and then me and Jeepers went home. It’s on YouTube still, I think. Some guy filmed it all.”

There was an immediate scramble for phones. “What’s it called?” Rachel cried, launching the app.  

“Drunk guy rides horse into store, or something like that,” Angel confirmed, Rachel tapping and then scrolling.  

“That’s Lucy, right? The only ex you’ve ever remained friends with, Sharise’s bestie? Did I remember right?” Keri asked, Angel nodding. She remembered him mentioning that they were still in touch, deciding that they worked much better as friends once their two-year relationship had come to an end.  

“You did,” he confirmed, looking to Rachel, who turned her phone to him.

“There’s more results than you’d imagine for that!” He reached for it, scrolling down, snorting with laughter when he recognised the thumbnail that was him, clicking and enlarging it, turning the volume up as everyone peered in close, beginning to laugh, a very drunken Angel riding a big horse through the aisles like it was the most normal thing in the world, saying “c’mon, Jeeps. Let’s go” once he was done, turning the horse around and nonchalantly riding him out again, his hooves loud upon the tiled floor as exited the store to a hell of a lot of laughter from customers and employees alike.

Angel very much marched to the beat of his own drum, and it was another thing in a nice little list beginning to build up over why Keri found herself liking him more and more with every moment that passed. She’d always been a little too cautious to be so spirited, so admired him for such. What she truly enjoyed even more though was seeing how well Angel fitted in with her little group, everyone leaving to go and change into more comfortable clothes (bar Ash, who’d packed a change) before they all met up again later at The Lounge.  

It was a night that ended a little short for Keri, though, abandoning drinking in order to be able to safely take a few painkillers, wanting to go and put her foot up somewhere comfortable, so heading back to the apartment at 8pm with Angel, while the others all stayed on.  

“I’m sorry me and my stupid ankle ruined the night,” she spoke, after getting comfortable in her pyjamas, sitting on the couch with another ice pack on her ankle, her foot once again in Angel’s lap.  

“You ain’t ruined shit,” he assured her, stroking her leg. “Getting to spend time with you is exactly why I came up here. Doesn't matter to me where the location for that is either.” It made something happy flutter through her insides, to hear that.  

“Oh!” she suddenly cried, remembering something she’d meant to show him much earlier. “I took this of you mid-air, and I think I did pretty good considering it was only on my phone.” While he and Ash had enjoyed tackling the ramp she’d taken a tumble upon landing from, Keri had sat down out of the way, clicking a few pictures with the aid of her iPhone, locating the best one of Angel and turning the screen to show him.  

“No way! I actually look like I know what I’m doing.” He studied the picture, swiping to find a few more, loving one of him and Ash pulling ridiculous faces, an ability they seemed to have very much in common. “I like that guy, he’s fuckin’ great.” he added, laughing as he handed her phone back, Keri sending him a few of the pictures over on a Whatsapp message.  

“He feels the same, although he says you give him beard envy. He can’t grow his for shit, it just comes in patchy whenever he tries,” she laughed, remembering the last time Ash had attempted anything more than designer stubble. Turning the screen again, she showed him one Frankie had taken of them both on their descent, Keri grinning from ear to ear while Angel had been trying his hardest not to fall over again.  

Saving them to a folder to keep her pictures all neat, she deleted a couple of old ones, landing on some she’d forgotten she’d kept on there. “Hey, look at these,” she spoke, shuffling a little closer to him. “Paris catacombs, five years ago when we went on vacation.”  

“Woah, that’s a fucking lot of skulls!” he exclaimed, Keri beginning to swipe through the images, explaining what she remembered from their tour guide. “You know, I wish I was more well-travelled, but we were fairly poor while I was growing up, so we never went anywhere far away on vacation. I’ve been a few places here and there in my adult years, but mainly within this continent. Furthest I ever went was Montreal, because Lucy has family up there. Going to Europe or further afield would be a trip, though.”  

“As soon as I’m finished with college, I’m going to do a little tour around, working as I go, kinda like Sook, Ash’s mom, but without the hitch hiking. I’ve been saving to head over to Ireland for a while, so that’s my first destination.” she revealed, placing her phone down and reaching to remove the ice from her ankle, giving it a couple of rotations. Ibuprofen and ice were definitely helping it hurt less.  

Angel nodded with a smile, excusing himself to use the bathroom, although he didn’t actually need to go. Her words had made a small flare flicker within him, a sudden wonder over how he would fit into the life of a girl who had those ambitions, with his own life so firmly rooted in Santo Padre. Questioning such so early wouldn’t usually have entered his head, but he had to acknowledge that even after a short time, Keri was most definitely someone who he could see himself eventually catching feelings for.  

It was certainly indicative of how much he really did like her already.

Fate had brought her to him for a reason, he thought, leaning back against the sink in the bathroom, quietly despairing at himself for having those thoughts. He could have a penchant for drama, he knew this, but usually his pragmatism got him through any emotional unsteadiness he experienced throughout life. Eventually.

Alas, women were his weakness. They always had been, Angel knowing that deep down, despite rarely being the man who ever offered anything more than fleeting connections where commitment was concerned, a committed relationship was exactly what he sought, someone who was all his, and he all theirs in turn. His longest relationship had lasted just two years. It wasn’t good going for a man who’d recently turned thirty-six.

“It’s day one with her, man,” he muttered, flushing the toilet and running the tap. “Y’all ain’t got nothing to stress out about yet, because it ain’t even anything right now.” Was it even dating? It was hard to define, having started in such a unique, unbelievable way.  

Still, when he returned to her, continuing their discussion, Keri noticed that he seemed a little different to what she’d gotten used to, her inner monologue beginning to babble. He seemed quieter, a little withdrawn, a definite shift that she couldn’t help but begin to fret over. Had she said something off putting?  

It wasn’t until much later, while he was sleeping next to her that it hit Keri. Her mention of travel; he’d closed off immediately after that. She closed her eyes, groaning faintly with discomfort at the realisation. They lived far apart enough as it was, and now she was talking of heading off for months on end, which she now saw at her sending a clear signal that going forward, there wasn’t any time set aside in her mind to continue seeing where things went with him.  

Had she just completely blown it? If things with him worked out, then she’d be prepared to reconsider her plans, or include him in them. Lying there cringing into the darkness, she knew if she broached it with him, she ran the risk of scaring him off completely, should her assumption be incorrect.  

She sighed softly, her insides turning over with an uncomfortable prickle. “I guess they don’t call me calamity Joe for nothing.”

The Mistake in Comparison

So, recently someone tweeted (x'ed?) about how Japan was the showcase of why diversity doesn't matter. That Japan was "one of the most civilised, educated, dynamic, safe, tolerant, peaceful and culturally-rich nations on Earth."

It reminds me of when someone tried to argue, when queen elizabeth died, that there are examples of great monarchies, just look at the Japanese monarchy.

As a korean, we have very specific views about the japanese monarchy.

This got me thinking about the japanese occupation of korea and china. of the entire "Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere."

Then i started thinking about how we don't really view Imperial Japan in the same light as Nazi Germany. We comment on the death toll of the Holocaust but not as much of the tens of millions of chinese and koreans who died at the hands of the Japanese. How Japan escaped the fate of nazi germany. Holocaust denial is outlawed in Germany. Japanese war crime denial is part of the official curriculum in Japan.

THEN i realized my mistake.

The mistake i made in my own thinking. The Problem with that thinking is that it is a comparison. It is a feeling of injustice that the Holocaust is discussed and not the east asian genocide.

That thinking leads to antisemitism. And i have witnessed asians, who historically have no strong feelings towards jewish people (because why would they?), get some antisemitism from the seed of this thought.

Because when you start thinking that way, you start the road to resentment. Why do people care about the jews? Why don't they talk about us?

Well, it isn't the jews fault that the west doesn't talk about us.

It is victim blaming on a grand scale. and not the way to go about it.

We need to focus on educating people on what Imperial japan did. For those that know, koreans have very harsh views on the Japanese, and it is difficult to make the distinction between the Japanese people and Imperial Japan. Specifically because the Imperial Japan didn't just attempt to eliminate koreans off the face of the earth once, but twice.

But, with the exception of 3 years, Japan has had a right wing prime minister since 1996. The current one still sends offerings to the Yasakuni Shrine. it's been 4 consecutive years that cabinet members have gone to the shrine on the anniversary of the end of the war to honor Japanese war criminals. The current prime minister requested the german Chancellor's help in removing a statue symbolizing korean "comfort women" in berlin. "Comfort women" being the term used to describe the hundreds of thousands of women that were forced into sexual slavery by the Japanese.

The right wing isn't on the rise in japan, it's been in power for decades. and while many don't know about it, or ignore it because they love anime and sushi so much...

those who know the history of East asia do not ignore it. every korean alive, in country or diaspora, has at least family directly affected by japanese atrocities.

People need to know about Japan's actions, and it's government's complicity in hiding, or worse, embracing their criminal past.

I don't hold a grudge against japanese people. they are being lied to by their own government. lead to believe a fairy tale of their country's history. (much like how we do in the US). But people need to know the history here.

But you are 110% right. Juice would've been better off and so much happier as a Mayan. The type of brotherhood there would have suited him much better. He's got too much heart for SAMCRO.

He and Creeper would have been the best little dynamic duo. The LA Mexican and the Puerto Rican from Queens teaming up to do outlaw shit together. We love that. Juice downloaded Duolingo on his phone to try and learn and whenever he learns something useful he makes sure to tell Creeper about it. (When he found out the REAL way to say "I'm hungry" and told Creep, the man instantly went to Taza demanding answers 😂)

Juice and Angel are two of the biggest himbos on the planet and I would love to see the banter and chaos between them. I feel like Angel, Coco, and Gilly would do some lowkey, low-stakes hazing. All in good fun. But he would totally get sucked into that little group because let's face it Juice always seems to find himself at the epicenter of a lot of chaos 😂

I think that Marcus and Bishop would both look at Juice and in the most fatherly way possible, be like, "I can fix him."

Plus just the thought of he and Chucky being reunited at the scrapyard makes my heart go 🥺🥰🥺🥰

I would've loved to see Juice patch Mayan and thrive. In my head that's exactly where he is. Last 2 episodes of SOA who?? We don't know her 😂

kunidazai compelled me in season 1 and skk compelled me in season 2 and i was like well. dazai has two hands. and then the more i thought about the potential kunichuu dynamic, the more i was like you know what they ALL have two hands!!

What are your favorite things about the ship?

they could help each other heal...... can anyone hear me. they can be home for one another!! they can be the only ones who see each other as human!! they can be vulnerable around each other!! they can be gentle around each other!! they can build a home for themselves!! they can make each other better and help each other grow!!

but also. first they have to fight to get there. they have to overcome their differences and they have to struggle to make anything work when they're part of rival organizations and they have to decide whether or not this is worth the effort it's going to take and they have to realize that love is a choice that they will have to make over and over again. and i do really like when it starts as dazai being forced to accept that he wants both kunikida and chuuya. because dazai is so bad at wanting things but when it comes to this, he wants more than he thinks he can have which is cruel and unusual punishment except!! it's not impossible!! and in the end, he does get what he wants!! and it turns out even better than he could have ever expected!!

Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship?

kunichuuzai is superior to skk. also i think there is underutilized potential in dazai and kunikida being together first and chuuya joining later BUT there is underutilized potential in kunichuuzai as a whole so. i am very happy to see any and all of it

they were each other's second chance.... they were soulmates..... regina's happy ending was finally feeling at home in the world and robin was a part of that world!!!!!!!!

i'm gonna be so real with you all. yosano would not be able to stand kouyou. i truly don't think yosano could ever be interested in someone who works so closely with mori. i don't think yosano would have an issue with dating someone from the mafia in general but specifically bc kouyou is an executive, and has (i believe) held that role longer than the rest of the executives, and clearly respects mori at least as a boss, i don't think yosano would be able to be in a relationship with her. i think that's something she would not be able to overlook. also i really don't think she would like how kouyou treated kyouka

What would have made you like it?

idk maybe if kouyou didn't like. just show up to be overly protective of kyouka in a very toxic way. and then disappear forever. but even then it would highly depend on how her character was potentially further developed and there's still the whole "mafia executive working closely with mori issue" ://

Despite not shipping it, do you have anything positive to say about it?

based on aesthetics and appearances alone, they are a very attractive ship. i cannot deny this. also i do thank k.ousano shippers for at least giving the female bsd characters some attention even if i disagree with the ship on a fundamental level and will likely never read fics for it. the fanart is very pretty. i do in fact often find myself wishing i shipped them just so i could actually fully appreciate the art & fics

The sheer energy and expressiveness of Firehair in these two pages from Rangers Comics is truly remarkable. The warrior maid goes from despair to exultation in five panels as she escapes from the mine shaft into which she had been hurled to emerge and triumphantly overpower the bad guys. And then she launches a daring rescue mission of the sheriff and a child on the verge of being tortured by the leader of the outlaw gang to make them reveal the whereabouts of buried loot. At times our heroine has an almost manic look in this adventure, but the female athleticism on display is beautifully drawn, and the panels have a live-action feel as they propel Firehair forward.

I suspect I will post more pages from this story if only to reveal what happened next! This depiction of Firehair is very different from the later green-clad red haired brave, which was illustrated in a more sexy style than the way character is portrayed here, but was much less dynamic. Writer and illustrator went under the collective euphemism John Starr.

Ruby or Mulan, Maleficent or Cruella, Dragon Queen or Outlaw Queen, Shadow Queen or Regina x Kathryn?

Gaaah! Thank you for the questions! These are challenging, for sure!

Ruby. But it's close! The werewolf thing wins it for me, and also because she was in Season One. I have a lot of Season 1 feelings. And also her friendship with Snow! And "Red-Handed" being one of my favorite episodes. She's a great and tragic character who does her best to help others no matter what she's going through herself.

I do love Mulan a lot, though. I may be in love with both Red and Mulan. Oops! I just wish we'd gotten more of Mulan. I loved her dynamics with every character she interacted with. She's such a badass. Mulan x Aurora x Phillip is one of my favorite ships in the show, and I also wouldn't have said no to Mulan and Ruby ending up together. Mulan deserved better.

Cruella. I agree with you about having a lot of room to explore with Maleficent, as she could have done with a bit more development in the show. I'd have at least loved to have seen more of her relationship with Lily. She was an adorable mom in the one episode we got to see them interact. But Cruella makes me laugh out loud. She has some of the best lines. "Sympathy for the De Vil" is one of my favorite, most unique episodes. She just wants to murder people! Let her have her happy ending, Isaac! xD. I don't know, she's just so fun, but I do still really enjoy Maleficent. I wish they'd explained what the heck happened with her and Aurora's parents. I like to believe she was in love with Briar Rose, and it went terribly wrong.

Definitely Dragon Queen. I've just been having a discussion on a different website about how Robin Hood was possibly evil the whole time. Looking at the evidence, his words don't match up with his actions. If he wants to steal from the rich, why date Regina? His code says he can't divorce his wife, but he'll… let her die instead? In the book, there is a page which shows that when he met Marian, he planned to kidnap her for ransom, yet he tells Will that he tried to steal her horse, didn't because she was poor, and from that day forward, he chose to steal only from the rich and give to the poor. Yet, in "Heart of Gold," we see that he only decides to steal from the rich and give to the poor long after he and Marian are a couple. Not to mention he shot at Regina without hesitation when looking for the Wicked Witch and, knowing at the time that the Wicked Witch had bright red hair, hid in the bushes and aimed his arrow at the back of a clearly dark-haired Regina's head for a good while before making his presence known. It's just a theory, but I do wonder if he had a plot for revenge against her all along, at least at first. I think that would have made him a much more interesting character. Otherwise, I struggle to make sense of why Regina, post formation of the Evil Queen, would want to be with someone like him. She kinda had to change her personality during their interactions just to make it make a little sense. It's just not for me. But power to those who like it, and I may adopt the revenge plot theory as headcanon, which might make me more invested in them.

Dragon Queen, on the other hand, has to be canon, right? I mean, the intensity of the moments when their noses almost touch. I think they should have kissed. There is so much blatant subtext there, and it's so wonderfully gay. Okay, so Regina rode home on a dragon. Okay, girl, I see you. "Are you a bad girl, Regina?" "The worst." I mean, come on! Everything that comes out of their mouths when they interact just screams "we are exes who can't stop flirting with each other." I love it! I wish it was more explicit!

Okay, this last one is really freaking hard. I do love both almost equally, but I've been thinking a lot about Regina x Kathryn lately and their potential, and I just wanna go back to season 1 and make them fall in love. I want the angst post-season 1. I need it! I honestly would have been ecstatic if Regina had ended up with either of them. And it's totally cool that she ended up single at the end. That was a nice way to demonstrate that happy endings/beginnings don't have to involve romantic love. But goddamn, I wish Facilier didn't die. I know love triangles aren't popular, but heck, if they'd brought Facilier in earlier and had a Kathryn/Regina/Facilier love triangle, I would have been very happy. Idk, I love both pairings, but the Kathryn x Regina friends-to-lovers gets me. And we could have gotten so much more Kathryn. *Cries forever*.

Idea:

The kingdom of Devos technically has a Songbird. Sort of. His name is Tonio, and he's basically a Legally Distinct version of the Dreamworks version of Puss in Boots with magic. Including being a legendary outlaw.

How and why exactly he left the king's court and turned to a life of crime is known only to himself and Umbra, and neither are about to say anything about it. Umbra can't revoke his status as a Songbird because Unus has made it very obvious that Tonio still has his favor and Umbra can't find anyone else in Devos anywhere near as talented in music as him, and as a result one of his many titles and nicknames is "The Uncaged Songbird."

He's always enjoyed and been extremely good at riling Valiant up, and after he became an outlaw their dynamic escalated into a rather intense game of Cat-and-Mouse that gets put on hold whenever he manages to get away or some Bigger Problem draws both their attention, and starts up again whenever they cross paths.

Cilcia is the only kingdom he isn't Wanted in. He's torn between being relieved that he has a safe place to lay low if he needs to and "I don't know what their limit is, but rest assured, I will find it."

Lumiere tried to hire him for a scheme once and woke up with a Magic Overload Hangover and exactly half his lair cleaned out in response.

HAHAHAHA I LOVE THIS.

I can imagine it so vividly that Unus just stands in the shadow of Umbra when he goes to revoke Tonio's status, and just utters a menacing "If you put that pen on that paper, I will find a way to make sure Bliss's light does not reach Devos anymore." And its a very really threat because as kind as Bliss is, she hates Umbra as much as Unus does. (Everyone hates Umbra. So much.)

Unus probably watches Tonio with a lot of glee, knowing he's someone that Umbra quite literally cannot touch anymore, and him and Bliss enjoy making small ways for his and Valiant's paths to cross. They have bets on who comes out on top of the games of Cat-and-Mouse.

Queen Tawny (Cilcia's ruler) has definitely heard of Tonio's exploits and is always anticipating whenever he'll show up. She won't lie at all, she finds his game of trying to figure out the limits amusing.

LUMIERE GETTING A MAGIC OVERLOAD HANGOVER AHAHDHAHA. God knows he wasn't able to get ANY of that stuff back, Tonio was very thorough.

that Deltarune FC I made?

well i wanted to give out some lore for her so here

Angellerina in her light form is a beautiful and expensive porcelain ballerina music box that Noelles mom bought at an Church Fair auction as well Eboena (a romani wooden figurine with moveable joints made out of ebony wood) that she got for Noelle to play with

Angellerina spent most of her days on a shelf collecting dust, only being held when Noelle's mom came to clean her, Little Noelle Loved Angellerina though (even though she wasn't allowed to touch her because she was extremely fragile, she would also often hold Eboena up to her and pretend talk) But but one day, Noelle climbed the shelves just to get a closer look at Angel, when the shelf fell and Angellerina broke her leg

Angellerina never held anything against Noelle, Actually she liked her alot and always thought of her as her Lightener and was very happy to be held even if it was for a moment, Noelle's mom got very mad at little noelle though and grounded her,

Noelle's mom eventually got her fixed and Since Noelle's mom couldn't have nice things her house she gifted it to the school as a thank you for sponsoring her to become so she could become mayor

after the dark fountain opened, Ebbie (who saw a vision of great war after the kings took Angellerina and fought over who got to keep her, but also great peace and happiness if she became a part of the royal court) took Angellerina under her wing and cared for her and they became very close, but this also made Eboena wanted by the kings for not giving them such a precious Treasure) Ebbie was very protective of Angel because she could easily break, and Angellerina also was very shy and overwhelmed easily, That was until she met Jevil and Seam

(Okay so I have this HC/Fanfic where seam was like 5 they also felt out of place because they had the uncomfortable powers of the red Joker and when he found Jevil and they grew up together and formed a queer platonic relationship and knew that they would separate, But as they grew older they became mischievous outlaws because they disrespected the rouxls rules and they dreamed of one day becoming royal Jokers who could do whatever they wanted, well mostly seam, Jevil just wanted to go were Seam went)

First when Jevil saw Angel he was awestruck by her strange angelic aura, he always tried to get close to angel but she would mostly run away and Ebbie would chase him away, But Angellerina eventually started to come out of her shell, little by little, and was in enticed by Jevils Confidence and Mischief, and soon enough they fell in love with eachother (their dynamic was kinda like Suselle lol)

(also, seam and Ebbie got along well with Ebbie's seriousness mixed with sass and seam's go with the flow and cheery attitude and fell in love to ^w^)

they were a merry band of misfits together! who somday hoped to join the royal Court, but one day after charming the Queen of spades, the crew got to become a part of the royal court! much to rouxls annoyance

Angellerina was able to spread love and peace with her Heavenly aura and was able to become more confident (and show a bit more of a mischievous side!) with Jevils influence, She finally was able to be free and happy with everyone she loved

But after Jevil met the "man" the spade king wanted to kill Eboena for her crimes (also she was romani) But seam begged him not to, so He put her in the dungeon in return that Seam hanged up his Magicain hat

Angellerina was locked away in a crystal ball so she couldn't escape, Even though all seemed hopeless for her, She still loved Jevil and her Friends and still believed that they would be together again

okay know that thats out of the way, if Spamton is somehow related to Noelle, Does that mean Angellerina and Spam are related in some way? I mean Eboena would sure as hell not let anyone capitalize on Angellerina and turn her into a marketable plushie, but also Spam would HATE Jevil as in inlaw but also I keep thing of this
