Something that's been bothering me is a small detail in ST4 set design, specifically Eddie's trailer.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but it's the only place I remember seeing prominently displayed laundry baskets full of dirty clothes, both in the Right Side Up and Upside Down versions of the trailer.
I keep thinking back to Eddie's pointed comment to Jason Carver in the very first episode of S4, about basketball being a game where you "toss balls into laundry baskets". They drove that line home even further by having Dustin repeat it back to Eddie at the cafeteria table.
Tumblr media
It's giving me this nagging feeling that Jason and Eddie have more history than we're led to think.
Eddie said it with such bitterness and anger, loud enough that he wanted Jason to take the bait, which he did.
The latest chapters of Hellfire in ST Puzzle Tales also reinforce the fact that Eddie is very very touchy about basketball and the basketball team. He calls it "gross" and he doesn't even want to see Lucas wearing his basketball jacket. It seems oddly "personal", this chip on his shoulder about basketball and Jason.
Do they have some kind of shared history? Is it meant literally, do the laundry baskets have some kind of significance? The Upside Down version of the trailer is stuck in 1983, is it possible three years ago or more Jason used to come over there for some reason? Or is it a figurative thing?
Part of me thinks that new Eddie Munson book that's coming out will have something about Jason in it. Flight of Icarus is set in 1984, so possibly after whatever history he and Jason had. Eddie would be a senior (first time) at Hawkins High School and Jason would've been a sophomore.

I know we’ve all seen this picture:
Tumblr media
And yes it sucks, especially the fact that his gave is vandalized, but it might also be a reference to Carrie White:
Tumblr media
And maybe they could tease Eddie’s return the same way they teased that Carrie might not be entirely dead

Eddie Munson theory/writing prompt: In the book, it said that Eddie was about 6 when his mother died. It only said that she was sick. It didn't say what from, though. What if Elizabeth died due to complications from childbirth? What if to get more money Al, the insidious bastard that he is, gave Eddie's sibling to Hawkins lab after letting them experiment on Elizabeth while she was pregnant? What if Eddie had a sibling who, a year younger than El, also escaped the lab? I don't see how El could be his sibling in this scenario unless Elizabeth lied about her name and where she was from, or they mistook El for being Terry's daughter, Jane, and is in fact Elizabeth's daughter. . . Ooh, that could work. This is up for grabs if it anyone wants it.

Hi this is why I think Eddie is still alive and will come back
Stranger Things introduces two kinds of new characters into the show (besides just general background people). Characters who die and characters who join the main cast. The show also loves to follow patterns in their writing (Joyce having a wild theory, steve being the babysitter)
Eddie does not fit the pattern of a character they kill. He fits a character who joins the group.
Let me explain.
The main character deaths of the show are Benny, Barb, Bob, Alexei, Billy, and Chrissy.
Each of these deaths had a purpose more than just a death. The death itself was a useful writing tool or the character had nowhere to go in the show so the death made sense. Each death directly affected a main character in the party. And there was very clear evidence that that person was dead. Please stay with me, this will all make sense.
Benny
Purpose/need of death: to show how dangerous the people Eleven was running from were.
Death directly affected: Eleven and Hopper.
Evidence of death: we see him get shot and his dead body surrounded by flies.
Barb
Purpose of character: Her character taught us a lot about Nancy. It showed us what kind of girl Nancy had been and we could see by Barb's reaction to Nancy how Nancy was changing and becoming a little rebellious. Its also just a huge part of Nancys story and her drive.
Purpose/need of death: To show how scary and dangerous the upside down was and the creatures who lived there. Will was trapped there but with Barb's death we saw how people could be taken and killed. Her death was also a huge backstory for Nancy and really fueled her to become the bad ass character she is. She started fighting back because of Barb.
Death directly affected: Nancy
Evidence of death: we see her dead body many times in the upside down and El confirms shes dead.
Bob
Purpose of character: He really helped round out Joyce's character as more than just a mom and gave her another reason to want to fight. It also gave a really good reason in seasons 2 and 3 for Joyce and Hopper not to get together. In 2 she was with Bob and 3 she was mourning him.
Purpose/need of death: Joyce/Hopper are endgame so Bob wasn't going to stay around. It was a heart wrenching, well done death.
Death directly affected: Joyce
Evidence of death: We see him get eaten.
Alexei
Purpose of character: he was the connection to the russians. He brought comic relief. And his character really showed the great dynamic and team work between Murrey, Joyce, and Hopper.
Purpose/need of death: Again he wasn't going to stick around or join the party. So his death makes sense and was also very emotional.
Death directly affected: Murrey, Joyce
Evidence of death: We see him shot in the chest.
Billy
Purpose of character: I would put Billy in a slightly different category then the other four. He was obviously in the show longer but he still fits all the criteria. His character really had a lot of purpose. He was a great villain and really helped add to several other characters' growth like Max, Steve, and Eleven. Also in the first two seasons Will was the main focus of the mind flayer/Vecna. In this season Will is relatively free and so Billy is the new focus.
Purpose/need of death: some people will not agree but Billy's death was inevitable unless they continued using him as a villain. Just because he saw and experienced what he did it wouldn't have changed what a messed up, angry, unhinged person he was. And by what Eleven saw and his sacrafising himself he got a little redemption.
Death directly affected: Max
Evidence of death: he was impaled by the spider monster.
Eddie
Purpose of character: if Eddie is really dead then the only “purpose” for his character was to affect the audience. The characters who join the party (Murrey, Max, Robin, Erica) are characters written to be likable interesting people of their own. That's their “purpose” in the show. To be a good character. Eddies is not essential to Chrissy's death. Someone else could have witnessed it (steve, nancy, robin) or they could have simply learned about the killings another way. He also isn't used to round out other characters. Mike and Dustin are outcasts but we don't need Eddie to show us that. He meshes so well with all the other characters but his interactions don't teach us anything new about them. He has great interactions with dustin, mike, steve, nancy, robin but it doesnt show us a new side of them or anything we didn't already know.
Purpose/need of death: there is no purpose for his death. We don't learn any new information because of it. He also didn't need to die because he fits in so well with the party it's just very logical to have him stay.
Death directly affected: Dustin
Evidence of death: yes I know people will argue this. But. Could they write it so that he just passed out and woke back up once Dustin was gone? Yes. Could they have done that with any of the other deaths? No. He appears dead but the show doesnt show us that Dustin checked for a pulse or waited around for a long time. We also know the bats arent  poisonous becasue they bit Steve too. Lots of animals will leave something alone once they think its dead (isnt there a bear your supposed to play dead to get it to leave you alone??) Also we saw no evidence that his body was eaten or torn apart so it could be used (there's a theory of vecna using his body or bringing him back like how El did with Max)
So who fits all of this criteria in season 4? Chrissy. And there's a very interesting point in this.
Purpose of character: Chrissy shows us what's happening inside people's minds. How vecna is inside their head. And if Eddie is alive she plays a huge role in rounding out his character.
Purpose/need of death: Sure they could have fit Chrissy into the party but her death is what the whole Eddie/Jason/Lucas storyline is based on.
Death directly affected: This is the point i think is interesting. Who does Chrissy's death affect? All the other deaths have directly affected a main character in the party. And there's only one person who was a part of the party that her death affected. Eddie. Otherside her death only directly affects Jason
Evidence of death: Sadly we see clear evidence of her death in shots of her body and pictures of her autopsy.
Eddie's death would be a huge deviation from the patterns we've seen in the other deaths. It doesn't make sense. It felt forced and unnecessary. We don't see other stuff like that from this show. So why with Eddie? They’re 4 seasons in and have a huge fanbase. They didn't need his death.
Here are the other reasons I think he's alive.
They could use Eddie's character immensely. What if he has to survive in the upside down? How much knowledge that could bring to everyone and to us about how it works in there. Can you live there? If you're a smart, crafty adult and not a 12 year old kid? How does time work there? Are there other creatures? How big is it? Is it just Hawkins? If they wanted to explore the upside down in that way they wouldn't want to put Steve or Nancy or Hopper in there. It's the last season and they don't want a chunk of time where that person is stuck and alone.
When I think of how badass that would be and how it just seems like something out of an 80s movie I don't see how the writers could not use that. He would be a little more crazy and clothed in makeshift armor and handmade weapons. I mean come on.
The publicity around his character is big. He has posters and art. Action figures and clothing. Joe Quinn was in so many interviews with the rest of the cast. They started an instagram for him which is basically just about Eddie. He only follows a handful of people and most of them are related to Stranger Things. None of this has been done to this extent for any of the other characters who have died. Steve and Bob were on the show longer than intended because they recognised what good characters they were. You don't write a character like Eddie and not know the type of reaction he will get in this world where we all feel like outcasts and “freaks”
(also Eddie The Banished?? Banished to the upside down??)

SEASON 4 VOL 2 SPOILERS!
.
.
.
.
.
.
People on twitter genuinely won’t leave Eddie fans alone when we theorise about Eddie coming back/being alive. Saying we sound “stupid” we’re “in denial” etc but nothings impossible in this show and there’s lots of evidence pointing to Eddie coming back as Kas The Bloody Handed or being alive in general.

‼️st4 spoilers‼️
no one asked, but I'm going to explain why eddies death doesn't make sense and give a weak theory bc i am clinging to any semblance of comfort-
a.) to kill him off like that would be such weak writing for the duffers compared to what we've seen in the past. most of vol 2 was honestly.
b.) joseph talked about wanting to do scenes with charlie in s5, almost as if he already knew he'd be in it
c.) the unseen costume??? maybe it was just josephs clothes but he was in that blue button down/khaki outfit a lot
d.) even though the song heros wasn't played, eddie died because he was attempting to fulfill a "hero arch" that proved to be completely unnecessary. he was also called a hero by dustin.
e.) it's completely out of character for them to just leave his body there. they spent all season telling him it would be okay and that they could fix it, then no one (besides dustin) even seems sad or guilty. i also think it's very unlike steve to know how close dustin was to eddie and not try to comfort him or stay super close to him after.
f.) we already know the duffers like to make us feel bad about a completely good-hearted characters death and wrap in up in a little bow of pain (i.e. will and hopper), only for us to find out it wasn't even real. the initial pain gives viewers more relief.
g.) lastly, eddie and steve received the same wounds. in the interviews the duffers even said demobat bites weren't lethal, so we had no reason to worry about steve. why would that suddenly change for eddie?? there's no way they were that lazy with it.
so here's my theory-
he's not dead, they managed to fix him up and now they're hiding him somewhere because there is no way to clear his name at the moment. we got our false closure moment (like hops letters) when we saw dustin with eddies' uncle, thus giving us the idea that he's really gone. in s5, we'll find out he's not really dead and somehow clear his name. which, when you think about it, would be kinda easy to do: all of the killings can be related back to jason in some way. chrissy was his girlfriend, he played basketball with one of them, fred was looking for chrissys killer, and max was a potential witness. eddie could say he went into hiding because jason was trying to kill him and he didn't think the cops would believe him. then, he happened to come across jason trying to kill max and lucas fighting him, which is how he got so wounded. he could say he killed jason in self defense. this would not only clear his name but also make him a town hero of sorts for getting rid of a killer, and frankly, that's the ending eddie deserves.
look, all i'm saying is that of there's one thing i learned from stranger things: seeing a body does NOT mean it's real.
they can easily fix this, i know it.

Guys I’ve had a thought but it’s bittersweet:
Was just thinking about how IF they did bring Eddie back in some Kas/undead-kinda way but bc of that he can’t ever fully return to Hawkins but maybe he could help the gang from the Upside Down side of things.
Only, after the epic final battle against Vecna/UD, Eleven has to seal/destroy the UD once and for all but this also means having to seal “Eddie” in with it 🥲 and so they all, but especially Dustin, have to say goodbye to him again 🥲🥲🥲
But idk, I feel like it would be a good way to re-do Eddie’s death with an actual acknowledgment from the other characters + make it serve an actual purpose.
ANYWAY I’m done making myself sad lol, just thought I’d share ✌🏻

I saw a post a while ago saying that Eddie likely wasn’t the lead vocalist of Corroded Coffin or else he would’ve totally sang along to (or at least mouthed the words to) Master of Puppets. Which, honestly, that’s fair. I’ll give them that. However, I saw another one where someone was talking about how none of the other three band members were signing while they were practicing, so it’s possible that Corroded Coffin simply doesn’t have a vocalist. But, like… Am I crazy or can/do bands not rehearse instrumentals before bringing vocals into it?? I’ve always just assumed that’s how bands operate… They master the most important part (the music) and then add the vocals in later on down the line. Obviously, you don’t want to wait until the last minute to add in the vocals, but I’ve always assumed bands just focus on the basics first. Is that not… Is that not a thing that bands normally do??? Like, is that totally outlandish?? I mean, I know sometimes bands simply don’t have vocalists when they’re starting out, but… Is it not also possible that maybe Jeff (or the other guitar player, who’s unnamed) is the lead vocalist, but the band just wasn’t at the point with that particular song where they were ready to start adding in vocals???

Eddie Munson's Defense Squad ❤️‍🔥
I like this headcannon of mine. Well, we know that Eddie likes cheerleaders whether he's attracted to them or not. He respects them, and maybe it was because his mother was one. Maybe he told that to a cheerleader once, and it ended up getting passed around the group. Maybe the cheerleaders develop a deep affection for Eddie Munson. Secretly, they like him too.
So when they find out that he has been accused of murder and is being hunted by the jocks, they decided they couldn't just stand around and do nothing. They gather weapons and began hunting down the jocks because the goddamn police were doing nothing to stop them. So when they find Andy on top of Erica one them doesn't hesitate and puts a bullet into his shoulder from one of her daddy's guns. Maybe she goes upstairs and stops Jason from ruining the plan, inadvertently saving Eddie as well. (Jason gets a matching bullet wound and later matching silver bracelets.)
Well, when Eddie woke up in the hospital he was surprised as hell to find cheerleaders surrounding his bed, standing vigilant with their war faces on.
"Okay, am I dead or alive? What is this?"
