Set in an elven world 1200 years before the world of The Witcher, Blood Origin will tell a story lost to time - the creation of the first prototype Witcher, and the events that lead to the pivotal conjunction of the spheres, when the world of monsters, men, and elves merged to become one.

Adding a sensational cast to the Witcher Universe, Sophia Brown and Laurence O’Fuarain play Éile and Fjall, two warriors estranged from their opposing clans, Michelle Yeoh takes the role of Scían, a sword master, the last of her tribe, Mirren Mack is Princess Merwyn, Lenny Henry plays Chief Sage Balor, Joey Batey plays Jaskier and Minnie Driver stars as a Seanchaí. Francesca Mills is Meldof, Zach Wyatt and Lizzie Annis are celestial twin sages Syndril and Zacaré. Huw Novelli is Brother Death.

Other supporting cast members include Amy Murray as chief sage Balor’s apprentice Fenrik, Mark Rowley as King Alvitir, Daniel Fathers and Faoileann Cunningham as clan chieftain Osfar and his daughter Ryl. Kim Adis is Merwyn’s handmaid Ket, Nathaniel Curtis portrays Brían, and Dylan Moran is Uthrok One-Nut. Ella Schrey-Yeats portrays the young prophet Ithlinne and her mother Aevenien is played by Claire Cooper.

3. favourite quote?

“He’s a failure of a man and a failure of a father.” the show had some meaningful quotes, I’m sure, but this one is an absolute winner to me. a pot calling a kettle black.

7. favourite set/location?

my favourite set is Asriel’s lab. there are so many gadgets and various knick-knacks, and the light from the aurora crates a rather cosy atmosphere.

my favourite location is Cittágazze. it looks so cool and it amazes me that they built it all from scratch with such attention to detail and depth. 

23. favourite portrayal of a minor character?

Bella Ramsey and Ella Schrey-Yeats were brilliant as Angelica and Paola. they were so vicious until an adult showed up, and they just wanted to be taken care of, to be normal children.  

25. pick a terrible scene from the golden monkey

oh there are quite a few to choose from. I love when the golden monkey shifts into the goblin bastard! one of my favourites is in s2e3, where he sneaks upon the sleeping guard and attacks his snake dæmon, and bangs her head to the concrete ground to knock the guard out, then sits down and just stares at him, furiously. loved that moment for the monkey, especially since we didn’t get the snake job in ep6. later, when Marisa leaves Lee’s cell, the monkey emerges from the corner, still holding the snake, pauses, looks at the unconscious soul-noodle, like, “hold on, why am I still carrying this thing? ew, gross!”, and throws it away. 

the second scene that stood out for me was the witch’s dæmon’s sacrifice to a spectre in s2e7. I especially like that he turns away as he gives the bird to a spectre, as if fingers crossed they like poultry 😃 I also think this is the first time we see the monkey feeling threatened by another being, and during that moment he doesn’t trust Marisa, that she would be able to control spectres from attacking him. 

another one worth mentioning is from s1e7, where Marisa is strangling Sister Clara as the monkey sits further away and observes them, because nurse’s dæmon was cut from her, so he literally has nothing to do, but watch.

A fancast I haven't seen for Daenerys is Ella Schrey-Yeats. I don't know exactly how old she was when she appeared in His Dark Materials but I think she was in the right age range for Dany

Oh absolutely! I wish there were more content of her; she fits Daenerys' aesthetic so well. I've used her a few times and basically exhausted all the footage there is.

more casting news! ella schrey-yeats as been cast as “paola”, presumably one of the cittagazze children. in “the subtle knife” the two main cittagazze children are siblings paolo and angelica. my guess is either “paola” is a female version of paolo or a combined characer of paolo and angelica.
