I'm still thinking about that deleted scene of Joan touching the side of Morse's face and him putting his hand over hers.
It reminds me of the end of Coda when she gently brushes her thumb across his wound, and he instinctively holds on to her. I love that moment because it showed a loving side of Joan which was reminiscent of Monica and demonstrated she was Win's daughter as much as Thursday's. You could totally see why Morse fell for her.
I realized Joan kind of lost that side of her in the rest of the series. The closest which comes to mind is her silent kiss with her hand in Harvest.
I feel like it would've been really lovely to see that parallel of her being able to look past all the bullshit for a minute and let Morse know how much she cares for him. I think it would've gone a long way in explaining why he could never get over her.

Endeavour & Joan - Missing Scene
It all started with this print (© The Red Dress London on Etsy):
Tumblr media
I noticed that the moment depicted between Endeavour and Joan was not included in Season 6, which this artwork was commissioned to advertise. I didn't think much about it until the wonderful @sircolinmorgan posted this image from shutterstock:
Tumblr media
Finally! Evidence that the deleted scene existed! But where from? Some investigation was required...
Okay, so when lightened up a bit, what you can tell just from that pic alone is that there’s a blackboard in the background, someone sitting at a desk, and you can see the edge of a camp bed (you can also see that she’s holding his other hand!) All of that of course suggests ‘Deguello’ and the aftermath of the tower collapse in the gymnasium. As far as I can tell there’s only one scene in the episode at this location and it’s when Endeavour escorts a child to a waiting parent and then Strange and Thursday are there and reach for him (quite a lovely caring moment):
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Compare the first of these three pics and you’ll see the blackboard, the person at the desk, and that the blue area in the shutterstock pic is the privacy screen next to the blackboard.
Endeavour is wearing his blue shirt that’s consistent with both images, but he never takes his jacket off in the actual scene and it’s very odd that Strange touches Endeavour’s shoulder and he turns around, only for the scene to immediately cut to the makeshift morgue scene with DeBryn. You never see another scene at that location as far as I can tell. Does that imply something was cut there? The shutterstock pic shows Joan at that location, but she was never there in the episode.
The next scene with Endeavour is when he visits the little girl in hospital and meets Joan there:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Their conversation is extremely brief with Joan telling Endeavour he should be at home:
Morse: I wanted to see if she was all right. How is she? How's her mum?
Joan: Hanging in there. You should be home.
Morse: Home. So should she. So should her mother. So should everyone.
Joan: Accidents happen.
Morse: Yeah, not like this. You know, somebody's got to be responsible. Is there anything I can do?
Joan: You've done your bit and more.
Morse: Good night.
Joan: Good night.
Joan is of course wearing the same as in the shutterstock pic. The next time we see Joan she runs into Endeavour when he’s investigating the surveyor and she’s changed clothes:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
They talk about the survivors and then have this little exchange:
Joan: How are things with you?
Morse: Oh, one day's much the same as the next.
Joan: I didn't mean work, I meant you.
Morse: Oh, it's the same thing, isn't it? Have you seen your father lately?
Joan: Not much. Why?
Morse: Well, I just wondered if he was all right. He hasn't seemed himself lately.
Joan: Oh.
Morse: Anyway, there it is.
It’s extremely halting and Endeavour leaves looking all awkward and uncomfortable. Make of that what you will because neither of the filmed scenes between Endeavour and Joan play like they could have had such a close moment as in the shutterstock pic with Joan touching his face and holding his hand. Obviously one was switched out, but it seems to me the entire tenor of their interaction in 'Deguello' was changed. These are the only scenes they had together and Joan isn’t in the rest of the episode or the next season for that matter! I wonder if it played a part that Sara Vickers wasn’t available - I have no idea how far in advance they could have known. It's also possible they felt that a romantic moment would have been out of place in the midst of a tragedy, or perhaps they simply decided against allowing Endeavour and Joan to be close. No matter the reason, it's a real shame - it looked like a beautiful scene!
Anyway, that was my little Sherlockian endeavour (snort!) into the missing Endeavour/Joan moment everyone was robbed of. I think it’s probably much like the sigil scene in BBCs ‘Merlin’ where a totally different version was filmed with a very different feel, and we don’t know why that was swapped out either! Damn my favourite shows.

On taking a risk:
I love these two. Sara Sidle and Gil Grissom. Jorja Fox and William Petersen. I love them both. I love them all. (If you’re following this blog, this probably doesn’t come as a surprise to you.)
I love these two moments. I love these moments for Sara Sidle and Gil Grissom. I love these performances by Jorja Fox and William Petersen.
In discussing the new song for which she co-wrote the lyrics, Jorja Fox said (slightly cleaned up by me), “It’s worth taking a risk to get to love someone and be loved.” In “Girls Gone Wilder,” (CSI, 15x05), Sara Sidle says, “I mean, to be with somebody who really gets you, who loves you for who you are—I don’t know. I think it’s worth the risk.” In A History of My Brief Body, Billy Ray-Belcourt (a writer and academic from the Driftpile Cree Nation) writes, “To love someone is firstly to confess: I’m prepared to be devastated by you.”
And I love these two moments because, to me, they both really show that risk—the risk of devastation, of being devastated by someone.
Based on what we see in the first scene, I’ve always believed Sara didn’t know Grissom was coming to the rainforest for her. Maybe after his initial non-answer answer he believed she deserved such a sweeping gesture; maybe he believed she’d be less likely to reject him in person. But he goes after her. During his trek through the rainforest, he’s eager to find her. Then finally he does, and, in that moment when he stands there, before she turns around, I think there is anticipation but also clear awareness of that risk.
For years he feared he might put everything that was comfortable in his life at risk for Sara only to have her ultimately reject him. It’s a risk that, in “Butterflied” (CSI, 04x12), he initially described himself as having been unable to take. But now, here, he’s really done it: he has given up his job and everything comfortable and safe, and he still risks Sara’s rejection. But now he knows—he knows that the risk is worthwhile—it’s a risk he is willing to take, because he knows what it is to love and to be loved by Sara.
In the second scene, I also think Grissom does not know that Sara is coming after him. She looks a bit worried when she gets out of the cab and scans the marina for him, she hurries down the ramp, but then she looks pretty calm as she’s walking down the dock to him. He has, after all, just declared (albeit not directly to her) his love for her, that she’s been his best friend, that she’s restored his faith in the human being, that he’ll miss her for the rest of his life. So our girl should be pretty confident in her endeavour. But, then again, the man did divorce her, and she’s just 100% given up her new job (if you use the deleted scenes as your headcanon, which JF would have to have been doing at the time) to come after him.
So she looks pretty calm heading down the dock, but then there’s that moment where she’s standing in front of him, waiting for him to do something—your move, buddy. And she does this little intake of breath at the end, and I feel like that’s the moment where you really feel how much she is putting her heart out there; she is risking everything, like he has done before. It’s that little intake of breath that seems to jar him into movement. But it’s in that moment that I really feel how much she is willing to put herself at risk for this man, how she is willing to risk her heart—but, of course, this is Sara, so I think she has always been willing to risk everything for this man.
At different times in the series (Sara in “Girls Gone Wilder” and Grissom in “Immortality”), both Sara and Grissom speak of love and their relationship with the other in a manner that shows they both thought their relationship was worth the risk even when they thought it didn’t have a happy ending. (Cue the tears.)
@addictedtostorytelling has some relatively short meta on that subject, and you should probably go read it if you want to feel weepy for a bit.
In chapter 13 of my current fic, I let the characters themselves discuss the same. (I’ll probably leave you less weepy. I just went back to look at that chapter, and honestly I made myself a little weepy. I’m pretty much non-stop tears and anxiety, though, so you probably shouldn’t let me be your gauge.)
The events that necessitated the events of “Immortality” should never have happened; they were a complete betrayal, and I will never think otherwise. But I do love the parallels that were created in the end: both characters giving up what had become a very comfortable existence for a chance—a chance—at happiness—a chance (no guarantee, still the risk of rejection) to go off on an adventure with the one they love. They are both willing to risk that utter devastation, and I love it, and I love them.
So, yes, I love these two and their story, and I love these performances.
Also, GSR Day is tomorrow (except it’s actually today—February 9—because I always end up posting things after midnight). Since this is nothing but the first of my completely made-up GSR holidays, I will probably do nothing but reblog my first GSR Day post and post a completely unrelated GIF-set and maybe re-read my “how they met” fic. Actually, now that I think about that last one, I’m kind of excited for it. So happy almost-GSR Day. Did I mention I love these two? 😉
(I have to add that, according to Zuiker, they did not have much time or money to shoot “Immortality,” and it definitely shows in the lighting on Jorja Fox’s face in parts of that final scene. So, for the second gif: it’s not me doing odd things; it’s the source material.)

OMG Ray I have got something to tell you!
First of all thank you anon who recced those Assclassxbnha fics
Second! People there was this awesome bnhaxassclass crossover fic I read a long time ago. It had this hilarious scene where Endeavour is trying to intimidate Izuku and Izuku's hella unimpressed and his thought process basically boils down to 'I went to school Nagisa Shiota and this man thinks he can intimidate me'. The same thing repeats with Stain where everyone else was frozen Izuku wasn't because 'once you stood between Nagisa and his target, felt that bloodlust head on, everything else pales in comparison.' It was glorious.
All the Assclass kids had interesting quirks too though they seem useless at first glance. I loved Nagisa's Petrifeye, which was not only a god-tier pun but it also went through an evolution. Karma's quirk was... Wait for it....Karma.
Damn that was a good fic. Things were much more destructive with quirks involved and the second half dealt with Izuku being an unnerving student to the entire UA student body and faculty with his plethora of deadly skills.
Unfortunately the author deleted it due to personal reasons. I just wanted you to know such a fic existed at one point. And also if anybody has access to it, please put me out of my misery.
Oh that really does sound like it was fantastic

hhhh i’m sorry for liking a bunch of your posts in a row but they’re just so good i can’t pause 😭 i just recently got to your genshin masterlist and saw you made a post asking for some more requests :3
if it’s not too late, would you be open to doing yandere hcs of albedo, kazuha and any others that you want where darling kinda finds out about what they’re like and what they’ve been doing so they go on to confront them—would they just admit to it or just lie and be like “no you’re crazy i’m not doing that 😐”? (bonus: darling confronting albedo but it’s fakebedo who’s there instead 😳)
if i missed a post or something explaining that requests were closed then feel free to delete/ignore, i don’t mean to overwhelm you or anything with this!! ^^)
Aaaa tysm, you’re too kind 😭💕💕
I also did Childe, Scara and Ayato bc I loved this prompt for them!
TW: yandere, gaslighting, manipulation
Tumblr media
Immediately admits to it but doesn’t seem regretful in the slightest. Although he may try to feign it if it means you’ll forgive him
In all honesty, he probably wasn’t even trying that hard to hide most of what he was doing behind the scenes
He’s always intrigued by any and all reactions you make, and seeing how you’d react to being followed and having close friends disappear was a very interesting pool of information for him
Of course, he hadn’t expected you’d be able to trace them back to him, but your intelligence is something he adores you for
Confronting him about it will get him to stop; he’s gathered all the data he wanted from this little endeavour. But he’ll definitely be replacing this experiment with a new one to gather even more data on you
Tumblr media
Immediately admits to it and is apologising profusely before you even finish your accusations
He’d managed to justify his actions to himself throughout the whole ordeal, insisting that he was just protecting you
He needed to walk you home every night, even if you weren’t aware he was there for most of them, just to make sure you got home safely. He needed to threaten those people to stay away from you, they were just going to use and hurt you
But when you confront him yourself, he can’t keep lying to himself about his actions being harmless to you. They caused you stress and paranoia, and it’s all his fault
In the end, his sincere and heartfelt apology will most likely convince you to forgive him and to propose that you put this situation behind you, which he is more than thankful for
Although, you can help but feel that his apology may have been a little less sincere than you’d originally thought…
Tumblr media
Gaslight gatekeep girlboss
Let’s not get this wrong, he’s by no means trying to be convincing. No, he knows that he’s been found out and that there’s no convincing you he’s innocent
But that doesn’t mean that it isn’t extremely entertaining to watch you scramble to justify your accusations to him
Besides, no matter if he admits to it or not, there’s nothing you can do about it. He’s a harbinger, nobody is going to voluntarily interfere, especially not against him
So he’s much rather keep this entertaining game of cat and mouse going by denying every accusation you throw at him, all with that cheeky little grin spread across his face
Tumblr media
Absolutely refuses to admit it, if only because he’s embarrassed but he’d also refuse to admit to that
You really think that him of all people is so interested in you that he’d go out of his way to personally find out everything about you and follow you around? How narcissistic can you be?
The whole situation turns into a massive argument, with you consistently providing tangible evidence and Scara adamantly refusing every bit of it
Eventually it ends when Scara asks what you’d even be able to do about it. He’s still not admitting guilt, but also lording his status and power over you now. So you drop the topic and leave by asking him to stop
Will he though? Absolutely not. You’ve wounded his pride so much by showing how badly he hid that now he’s going to openly do all the things you’ve accused him of just to remind you who holds the power in this situation
Tumblr media
Gaslight gatekeep girlboss 2: electric boogaloo
Unlike Childe though, Ayato is extremely convincing in this situation. He has you doubting all your evidence the moment he starts to respond
It took a lot to build up the courage to accuse the head of the Kamisato clan of stalking you and using his power to get rid of those close to you, but all that courage leaves your body when you see how saddened he is that you’d bring these accusations against him
Of course it wasn’t him. He barely has any time to rest, how could he be following you around every second of the day. He’s a reputable and kindhearted man, he’d never dream of doing anything like that. He doesn’t even need to refute more than one of your claims before you’re the one apologising to him
But he’s so kind, and he understands that you’re clearly shaken by these incidents. Ayato is more than happy to allow you to stay in his estate until you feel safer. He’ll even stay by your side when you want to go out to help ease your worry

Rimmer discovering that his real father was the gardener Dennis and managing to find a way to be proud of himself for becoming a second technician in the space corps because he figures his real father would have been proud of him for getting that far warms my heart in a kind of bittersweet way;;
He’s had his entire world turned upside down. His father, or rather the man he has always thought of and believed to be his father, is in fact not his father at all. The weight of constantly not living up to expectation, constantly disappointing, lagging behind his brothers, never being Rimmer enough in his father’s eyes takes on a new light when he learns that he is a Rimmer only in name, not by bloodline.
His real father was a gardener, and yes Rimmer referred to him as a babbling imbecile when he was first told, but clearly Dennis was good at his job, good with his hands in practical ways. Maybe he wasn’t an academic type, maybe he even had the same struggles that Rimmer himself experiences and that’s what led him to something more hands-on. But he’s good at what he does and was presumably happy to do it too.
When Rimmer is hearing the news, he’s told he no longer descends from a line of Austrian princes and French royalty but artisans, gardeners. People the Rimmers would look down on but whose individual skills are still very much a valuable and precious thing.
Lister jokes that a billion piece jigsaw finally falls into beautiful place but in a way he’s right.
Rimmer has been shown in the books to have enjoyed creative things in his youth. He was all too happy to colour in maps of the solar system with extreme care and attention to detail, and later in life he colour codes his revision timetables until they resemble minor works of art themselves. And although it’s a deleted scene there’s also a moment where we see him trying to paint miniature models with the aid of a hologram box. So even now something of that has survived as a minor hobby. It’s clear there was a burgeoning creative streak in him that was squashed by his family’s lack of appreciation for art and crafts. Something they surely viewed as nothing more than frivolous time-wasting pursuits, unlike something productive like becoming an officer. Something menial in their eyes despite the very real skills needed to create something with your own hands.
Given enough encouragement to pick up a craft and stick to it he would probably find that it comes to him a lot more easily, a lot more naturally than studious, complicated academic stuff that requires lots of reading and memorising and calculating. He’d find that he’s good with his hands, and a practical learner who retains things much more easily when he’s able to work at it physically. And he would surely enjoy expressing himself through creative endeavours a bit more if he could just give it a chance.
I understand that he still wants to have a goal to aim towards, and since he’s spent his entire life and most of his borrowed time as a hologram attempting to become an officer then of course he’s going to be reluctant to give it up. He’s spent so much time trying to become an officer, what’s the point in giving up now? I guess it’s something that would take time for him to really consider letting go of. It has defined so much of his existence for so long but so much of THAT was dictated by the expectations of a man he now knows isn’t even his real father.
When he played that message from his father it was to try to free himself from that. He even says that although he was only supposed to play it after he became an officer, by playing it beforehand it means he doesn’t care what his father thinks, that he’s free of him. But that’s easier said than done.
It would have been nice to see him leave that goal behind, to shed it along with the weight of all the other expectations that were placed on his shoulders, to cast aside the mould he was never able to make himself fit no matter how hard he tried.
But I think that with everything his life has been it’s to be expected that it would be a slow, gradual process. How do you throw away everything you thought you had to be all at once? What’s left of yourself when everything you’ve become was built around those expectations? Who will you become afterwards?
I hope he figures that out and makes peace with it someday;;

Taehyung had expected a fight from the moment he decided to extend his exchange. After all, his family had been quite vocal in their disapproval when he first made the decision to sign up for the program; they weren’t going to have changed their mind in the few short months he’s been here.
He just hadn’t expected their distaste to sting quite as much. He doesn’t know what he had been hoping for. They had sent him off with sour looks and anger gurgling beneath their skin- an extension of what they considered to be “a rebellious phase” meant a guaranteed deepening of their anger.
It’s not a rebellious phase, though. He’s not doing this to spite his parents or prove himself.
He just... likes Earth. He’d been lead to believe that the people of earth are selfish and barbaric and cruel but the few short months he’s spent here have convinced him otherwise. He wants to see more, hear more, meet more people, learn more things. He’s not ready to
go back to his home planet and the life planned out for him there.
With a sigh, he leans forward in his chair to retrieve his translation device. For the most part, he has a fairly good grasp on most Earthen languages, but sometimes in large groups where multiple people are talking, he needs the extra aid. He can already hear a bit of commotion going on in the living room and knows that Nayeon has her noisy male friend Jungkook over. He’s done sulking around his room after that awful conversation with his family and he wants to spend some time with his friends.
Sure enough, the scene in the living room confirms his suspicions of chaos. Nayeon and Jungkook are playing some sort of game together and yelling at each other intensely over it. You, on the other hand, are curled up comfortably on the couch, idly scrolling through your phone and dutifully ignoring the noise.
Something warm and fond swells up in his chest- he feels like his ribs may burst open with the sudden feeling. He doesn’t even hold back his smile as he steps into the room, immediately making a beeline for the couch.  He settles in the small space between your legs and armrest and stretches out an arm. The hem of your track pants have ridden up a little, leaving a little stripe of exposed skin between your sock and the bottom of your pants. He rests his hand there, running a thumb across your skin.
Instantly, he’s flooded with the sensation of your surprise. Though him reaching out for you has long become commonplace, you’re still a little surprised after he does it. He’s become accustomed to the little spark of shock, like a jolt of static, which then settles into whatever emotion you’re currently experiencing. This time, you’re feeling a strange mixture of reluctance and amusement. He guesses that it must have been a long day for you and yet you’re still endeavouring to spend time with your friends.
“What game are they enjoying in?” Taehyung wonders. You shrug and settle back against the armrest, fixing your attention on your phone once more.
“Mario kart. Jungkook reckons he can beat Nayeon with one hand.” You explain. Taehyung doesn’t shift his hand, instead revelling in the sticky warmth of your contentment, before turning his attention to the noisy duo in front of the television unit. Sure enough, Jungkook is playing the game one-handed, but is also using his spare hand to grab at Nayeon’s remote. She is shouting in response, clearly displeased with his foul play.
“If you’re bored why don’t you go back to your room?” He asks.
“They asked me to be the referee.” You sigh, rolling your eyes.
Taehyung chuckles before examining your posture.
“You’re not paying much attention.” He points out, nodding his head in the direction of what surely should have been called out as blatant cheating. You fix him with an unimpressed look, imperious as you gaze down your nose at him.
“Does it look like I want to be here?” You question, but with his thumb settled against the curve of your ankle, Taehyung already knows the answer. You have two functioning legs and are perfectly capable of leaving.
With a sigh and a fond smile, he turns his attention back to Nayeon and Jungkook, who are now fighting over each other’s actions. Nayeon’s little green monster plummets over the edge while a hammer slams into the pink, princess-y character that Jungkook has selected.
He wishes he could package moments like these and send them to his family. Maybe if they saw this, saw humans when they were relaxed and spending time with each other, they’d understand. That humans can be warm, and kind. That humans can love and create and have fun.
He shoots a furtive glance at you; you’ve lowered your phone and you’re observing the race onscreen with mild interest. With the hazy film of your relaxed stare seeping into his own skin, he has the distinct feeling that he wants to bottle up this emotion, whatever it is. This warm, tranquility, the firmness of your presence as an anchor in cheerful chaos. He wants to contain it all and send it to his parents. Perhaps they would instantly ring up and tell him to stay longer on earth, if they felt it.
“What’s the matter?” His fingers flinch against your skin at your unexpected question. He tilts his head curiously at you, registering the concern that filters through his fingertips. Briefly, he wonders if you can sense emotions too, but then you shift, pulling your leg from his grasp and sitting up to peer at his face. “You’re quieter than normal.” You observe.
Suddenly nervous, Taehyung swallows past a dry throat. A quick glance at Nayeon and Jungkook confirms that they could care less what the two of you are doing, but it doesn’t settle the strange fluster he feels at having your attention suddenly fixed so intensely on him.
“I’m ok.” He reassures you, and it’s not exactly a lie. While the bitter aftertaste of the less-than-friendly exchange still lingers, the warmth of the room he’s in is quickly chasing that away.
You squint at him suspiciously for a moment. Without the contact of your skin, he’s not given the benefit of reading your emotions but they’re written across your face as plain as day. It makes him smile. It’s a stark contrast from when he’d first arrived on earth; he’d thought you stoic and uncaring, impenetrable like stone. But as the months have passed, he’s learned that his initial impression was wrong. You’re expressive in your own way, and after learning to match up your expressions with the flood of emotions he feels from your skin, he can now read you accurately.
“I’m really ok.” He reassures you again, and then hesitates.
He can see you don’t believe him, and it’s remarkable how even without the crutch of reading his emotions that you’re able to discern his emotional state so easily. It bothers him, that you can see his lie so plainly but it makes him realise he doesn’t want to hold things back from you. He’d tried to reassure you because he doesn’t want to drag you into his messy family dealings; doesn’t want you being aware of their deep-rooted prejudices and their low opinion of him. But it feels ugly, to keep you out of that, to shut you out and not trust you with these things.
When did you become a person he wants to share everything with? How did you manage it? How long as he felt like this for?
His mouth moves quicker than his sluggish brain, spilling the words he’d fruitlessly tried to hold back.
“I had a fight with my family.” He blurts. For a moment, you look surprised like you hadn’t expected him to say anything, but then your expression softens. It’s a gentle expression, one he rarely sees, and for some reason it feels like a punch to the chest every time he sees it. Something deep inside him trembles- he always forgets how much he craves your company, your gentleness, your compassion until he has it again.
“What about?” You probe cautiously. He looks away, watching as Nayeon successfully launches a red turtle shell into Jungkook and he goes careening off the platform, much to his outrage.
“I talked to them about extending my exchange. And they were angry that I chose to extend it.” He admits. He’s brought up the extension with you before, and you hadn’t minded, citing less stress in finding a new roommate as a good motive to support his decision. So he’s not quite sure he understands the confusion on your face.
“Isn’t this a really prestigious program?” You recall. “I thought you said only a handful of people on your planet qualified; shouldn’t they be excited that your request for extension has been approved?”
For a moment, Taehyung is silent.
He can’t quite explain the shock he feels. He’s received endless criticism for his decision to go on exchange here. From his family and his friends. Most of his support networks had opposed him, as if it wasn’t hard enough to qualify for the program without their negativity.
And yet you view it as something positive?
“They don’t really view it like that.” He clarifies, wondering if you’ll understand.
You sniff and turn your attention to the race just in time for Jungkook to come in dead last. He barely hears your response over Nayeon’s victorious crowing.
“They should.” Is your simple comfort. And then, more tentatively, you add “I think what you’ve done is amazing.”
His whole life, Taehyung has been met with constant disapproval. He’s been dismissed as too outlandish and eccentric; his hobbies too chaotic and his goals and dreams too selfish and impractical. And he’s always wanted, no, longed, for just a little support. Just a nod of acknowledgement. He’s always understood his own shortcomings and always tried his best to match to what others expected of him. But it’s never been enough, and that desire has haunted him endlessly.
And now it’s been given to him, so thoughtlessly and naturally, like it’s something he deserves. You always treat him like this; like your care is deserved. He’s struck by the thought that if he could package you up, send you to his family, maybe they’d understand what the appeal of humans is.
But at the same time, he kind of wants to keep you to himself.
He’s glad he extended the exchange.

Apparently the full-season box set of Endeavour has four hours of bonus content that people are wildly speculating may be at least in part deleted scenes and if that is so I WILL make this website completely unusable for a period of eight to ten days. Sorry! Sorry! It's my turn on the loudspeaker and I gotta lotta announcements!!

Okay this one I’m taking time to answer because I’m gonna use some real examples (because I never delete shit from my AO3 inbox and I'm feeling a little self-indulgent this morning) so strap in:
1. Comments left in the bookmarks. It’s rare, I’ve only ever had it happen twice. But it’s a little window into someone else’s view and I love that shit.
In one someone quotes a line from the fic itself and follows it up with “I’m gonna use that, maybe, once I get bitches, gotta cut my hair for that.” The once I get bitches part had me genuinely laugh out loud for the first time in I don’t know how long. I really hope their endeavour panned out for them 🤣
2. Comments that quote parts of your own fic. I love seeing what parts of a piece of dialogue or scene really resonated with people.
This was fantastic! Oh especially the whole show bit, I enjoyed it too damn much! So well-written and funny, I was grinning like crazy! “But I work in a morgue, so the guys at work are not exactly the sort of stiff I want to be picking up. Naked Attraction please help me find a man who isn’t mortified to go home with a mortician!” - I remember this from the snippets and it's brilliant!
3. Comments from the same username on several chapters of a multi chapter. Those people are the bees knees and fill me with the warm fuzzies.
I can’t even begin to tell you how my heart soars whenever I see your name, @blondelunaa, @abihastastybeans and @practicecourts doing this. 10/10 kudos to you guys.
4. The “Sorry, I got too engrossed and forgot to comment” or “Re-reading!” Kind of comments. With fandom it sometimes feels like something is dead after a week without new kudos etc coming in. But comments like these prove that people are still reading and appreciating long after that.
Oooh ive gushed over this chapter before, but wow- this patronus scene is everything and more. I love the image of the stag, so powerful and magnificent - ima sucker for patronus reveals but this one takes the cake 🤩 and the end is perfect !!
5. The requests for more or a prequel/ sequel. Again rare (for me anyway). I got a few of these on a microfic but I’m gonna share the one:
I am obligated to inform you that I'm in dire need of a sequel. Or prequel. Or both, I won't complain...
6. The paragraph. I think these are the kind of comments everyone loves to get. Just a full paragraph of gushing about something you made.
Oh my goshhhh!!!! My heart!!!!!!! Thank you so very much for writing this <3 This is a perfect, heartfelt, beautiful glimpse into the "after" I requested. I'm so happy they resolved all their feelings! I love the sweet domesticity of the line "it's just me", like they're already an old married couple in Godrics, instead of two teenagers in the Heads Dorms. I feel like that line really helped set the tone of intimacy for the rest of the fic. I'm glad they talked about all their feelings and James doesn't have to be broody anyone xx Thank you for sharing Charms!
8. The full block caps shouting comment. The passion involved in that style of comment.
I SHOULD'VE BRACED MYSELF AFTER THAT AUTHOR'S NOTE
9. The one word/one liner comment. It's small but mighty.
This was fantastic!!!
This was fab. All the kudos to you 🌸 You are a very talented writer ⭐️
This was mad…I loved it
10. The comment from someone "fandom famous" who you thought wouldn't even know you exist. Exhilarating and also incredibly daunting when posting a WIP.
Ahhh the drama in this one!! Loved the James and Lily interactions. Sweet to see Alice and Lily's friendship in person for this one! Got some satisfaction from James hitting Pettigrew I won't lie lol. Glad to see Lily's not pregnant (yet)! Excited to see how you wrap this up!
11. The unexpected compliment comment. Someone paying your work a comment you weren’t expecting. I’ve highlighted a few here that I go back to when I feel like just throwing in the proverbial towel:
Hot damn, this is best court room scene I’ve ever read in fanfiction and most published novels. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time! I’ve been devouring this fic quickly because the dialogue is so freaking good- the perfect combination of fun banter but with a realistic flow- I feel like I’m reading conversations with my own friends. Also I don’t know if this makes sense but they everyone’s Britishness jumps off the page in a way that I love.
Woah! Broken can be a beautiful place to start. Mind blowing and emotionally a masterwork
Just read all of this in one sitting, love your writing! Look forward to reading more of your fics
Asfjksagf this fic is amazing!! It's nighttime here now and I thought to myself that I would just read a couple chapters and then finish it tomorrow - but I COULD NOT put it down!!! Had to devour it all together!! It was just so novel, so interesting, so fun! And the final scene with James holding and hugging Lily from behind had me positively melting the whole time ;A; incredible! <3
I’ve just found this story and I binged the whole thing \o/ Thank you so much for sharing it. The soulmate concept can be so tricky to navigate and I imagine it’s hard to come up with fresh takes on the Lily/James Patronus storyline, but all of this came together so seamlessly and the narrative is so engaging. Such a lovely experience, and I’m incredibly grateful to have stumbled upon it! Phenomenally done! \o/

I think Russ Lewis deserves a lot of credit for managing to seamlessly bring Morse into the modern era through a storyline set in the 60s.
Endeavour on paper was a tricky concept because not only was it a prequel for an iconic character, it was essentially about a group of 60s-era white male cops. Lewis had to find a way of making them likable and sympathetic without it becoming completely unrealistic.
A major reason this show has had such a hold on me is because he executed this so well. Morse's sensitivity regarding issues such as racism, homophobia, misogyny, etc. could've come across as contrived, but it doesn't. It makes total sense considering his backstory and position as an outsider. Plus, crucially, Morse is no angel. He's not entirely comfortable with the feminist movement, looks down on sex workers, and isn't immune to objectifying women. Misogyny is ingrained in him even though he probably thinks he's above it.
Endeavour was created during the peak of anti-heroes, brutal detectives, and imo questionable depictions of neurodivergent people as being devoid of feeling. Lewis went in the opposite direction. He was like, "This man is a highly emotional marshmallow who loves deeply and abhors violence. No matter how much pain I put him through, or how hardened the outside becomes, he will always be a marshmallow."
As a result Endeavour still feels as fresh in 2023 as it did when it came out. Maybe moreso.
It's even more impressive what he did with Thursday and Bright. They're both traditional but anti-fascist which influences how they react to the times. There was a post I saw once which went into this more deeply, and it mentioned a deleted scene for I think Canticle where Thursday talks about bonding with gay men during the war. I love that and wish it had made it in. I love how between these three and Jakes, there's a theme of the harm done to these men by the institutions (+ toxic masculinity) in place, how they've become attached to what harmed them, and wanting to escape somehow. Their experiences have made them more empathetic even if they don't fully understand the changes happening around them.
Idk it's tragic and just kind of beautiful to me because it would've been so easy to lean into cruelty.

Ooh, could I get a DVD commentary on Sacrilege?
You most certainly can!
From this meme here. The fic in question is here.
Sacrilege
The idea for this one was born from the single image of David and Michael doing the nasty in a church. This in turn was, at least subliminally, inspired by a scene in the Yu-Gi-Oh! anime where Ryou Bakura is trying to escape from the evil spirit that frequently possesses him by running into a church. In that scene the church utterly fails to offer him protection just as it does here.
The last time Michael had set foot in a church was for his grandmother’s funeral years before. He’d been eleven.
This is based on a throwaway line by Lucy where she says her mom died eight years ago. As Michael is meant to be going into his senior year after the events of the summer, he's eighteen. Also from dialogue in deleted scenes trips to visit Santa Carla may have happened while he was a kid, but the Emerson kids and Grandpa are very much strangers to one another.
Michael is by his own admission not even a religious person and neither am I, though faith as a topic fascinates me. There are a few pieces of imagery I put in like Michael turning away from the cross and the 'sad-faced saint' that are meant to reflect this and the futility of the whole endeavour.
David's shadow covering up the altar was maybe a little heavy-handed of me, but the devil in folklore (who is not quite the same figure as Satan) is usually depicted as the Man in Black. In Robert Eggers' movie The Witch, he also appears wearing spurs, so the detail of David's spurs jangling was one I had to include.
His mouth was curled in a faint smirk—Caught you, again those lips seemed to say—but the look in his eyes was one of bitter disappointment.
David wants Michael, but it's not enough to have him. He wants Michael to want to be there, of his own volition (because the devil doesn't just take souls, you have to surrender them to him) which in this AU where I imply the vampires won and killed his family, is not something that is likely to happen. They are, as my tags warn, in a deeply dysfunctional relationship.
“You know,” David began conversationally as he plucked a cigarette from behind his ear and lit it. “My folks were Catholic. Went to mass every Sunday, confessed away their many sins. Never did either of them a blind bit of good. Or me.[...]"
This is venturing into entirely made-up headcanon backstory stuff. I pictured that David's grandparents were Irish immigrants fleeing the Potato Famine by coming to America. You will note that while he says his parents were Catholic, he doesn't consider himself to have been so. This is also for backstory reasons that David was largely on his own from a young age and was too focused on surviving to bother about going to church. (Unless it was to steal money from the collection plate.)
The discussion about the church's ineffectiveness at keeping vampires out is a bit of worldbuilding based on a few things. My assumption is that it is the power of faith that gives holy items their sting, rather than Christianity having some special claim to vanquishing evil. But also on a vaguely remembered piece of apocrypha to the effect of 'no building of wood or stone' being necessary to house god because god is everywhere (I cannot for the life of me remember where this comes from and google is failing me). But it's also inspired by the demon BlueFangs in Netflix's Castlevania adaptation, who taunts the corrupt bishop by saying: "God is not here. This is an empty box." (cw: gore)
My cw against misrepresentation of religion is for the discussion of Wicca, where David and Michael assume all Wiccans are women and that they always practice their religion naked. Neither is true, but they are (mentally at least) teenage boys content to indulge in the fiction of conventionally attractive white ladies dancing around ritual bonfires in the nude. Plus it's the 80s and Wicca is an 'alternative religion' and not something most people are likely to be well-informed about unless they have either researched it or dabbled.
The lead up to their coupling is violent with Michael actually maiming David by tearing a lump out of his throat, because I feel like this is how vampires roll, especially if they can heal very quickly. I don't subscribe to the trope that vampire bites feel pleasant per se, at least not to humans. It's more a case of "Hmm, how kinky are you".
Which in Michael's case here, is very.
And of course the closing image is David mocking the very idea of a god who could keep him from Michael.

What's a story or scene you've created that you're a smidge embarrassed exists?
I suppose that, when it comes to fic, there are only two I've ever posted only to change my mind and remove them. The first was that tiny scene with Sir Graham asking the guards for help on how to tell them apart, and them playing up being offended that he even needed to ask, being shocked at him saying they all looked the same, etc. Chapter Four of all things made the same joke better, I didn't have fun writing it, and I wasn't impressed with the way the scene played, so I judged it was ok to stamp it with the mental "At least you tried" stamp and take it down. The other was, of course, the outline of the escape chapter in Goblin Graham. I was having trouble getting Graham to be as mobile as he needed to be for that scene, and finally settled on the walking on his hands thing because it felt like a natural progression from the previous chapters establishing how interchangeable goblin hands and feet could be. However, set entirely the wrong tone, and I was feeling stymied with that scene as it was, so I just took it down. Thankfully the idea that goblins are more resilient to injuries and that he could wrap it up and wear a metal boot occurred to me before I wrote the next bit out - wouldn't want to have Graham descending a mountain walking on his hands!
As an aside: for my original fiction, I have a policy that I never delete anything longer than a few words, and I maintain two files for the purpose. Most stuff that's too embarrassing (or simply doesn't work in some other way) goes in the "Museum" file, which I sometimes wander through and find things that should be restored after all, or which are just fun to read for their own sake. But there is also the "Grand Hall of Banishment" file, which has only two scenes in it, which I remember - things that are so bad I never want to read them ever again, and just the thought of them makes me want to give up. I could delete them, but that's not a habit I want to get into.
Do you outline fics or fly by the seat of your pants?
Or some unholy combination thereof? Any and all of the above! It varies from story to story, session to session, passage to passage. I remember once hearing that some writers thrive from an unchanging routine, an other thrive from the constant reinvention of their routine. I'm definitely one of the second group! I have huge outlining files and spreadsheets, I have files with three sentence guidelines at the top, I have scenes that popped out of nowhere.
Who is your favorite character to write?
For fic? Graham, if it wasn't obvious. I have one friend who doesn't read my fic but supports me in writing it, and as far as she's concerned, this endeavour is called "Graham." "What were you writing? Was it Graham?" "How's Graham going?" "What's Graham doing?" (The answer is blushing, rolling his eyes, introspecting, and using filler words too often.)
For original fiction, it's Alain. I can't judge the quality of this WIP, but that guy gives me a lot of fun to write. I just hope I can avoid "you-can-tell-he's-the-author's-favourite" syndrome, since he's not the protagonist.
