That despite the countless metas written by a tiny cohort arguing that Callum is just like Viren and Claudia solely by virtue of them all being human mages, most of you can see clearly that’s not the case.

6. Wild, breathless kisses brought on by a heartfelt gift.

The Standing Battalion was finally back, bringing supplies and civilian manpower to help make the Winter a little easier for the Sunfire Elves. They’d all toiled especially hard to get the supplies delivered to their proper place and get the civilians settled in before the sun set. The humans were ready for a little relaxation, but first a bath for every single one of them.

Their hosts probably didn’t appreciate foreigners hogging up every underground bathhouse and aboveground bathtent in the city, but to be fair, it’d been a long journey and the elves probably knew they were coming by the smell. Amaya stabled her horse and went to the bathhouse closest to the center of the city for a quick wash. Her soldiers cleaned, splashed, and wrestled while they spoke of their plans. 

Some would go to their tents and embrace sleep with great enthusiasm. Others would meet up with their elf friends and have a drink of the brew they’d brought with them. Three or four of them were just ready to be held by a lover. Amaya was one of them, and there was absolutely no discretion, no end to the teasing…such was the life of a soldier.

Janai was still working when Amaya came to her tent, gift in hand. She was bent over a stack of scrolls and books, looking for vital information; overworked and stressed. Well, that was something the general intended to fix, she put a gift box on top of all the work. The elf followed the box to its deliverer. Eyes met, and a moment later Amaya was finally back in Janai’s embrace.  

The gift was left on the table, forgotten while the lovers got lost in each other’s arms.

Janai played with her hair as they cuddled in bed, fulfilled for the moment and content. Slowly, the post lovemaking haze slowly started to clear for the human, and she remembered the gift. It was secondhand, certainly not fit for a queen, but Amaya saw it amongst her possessions in Katolis and wanted to share it with Janai. Unfortunately, doing that meant she had to get back up.

“I brought you something.” 

“What? No, Amaya, stay here.” The queen didn’t whine, she just gave an order with loving desperation. Her lover kissed her forehead with a smile that promised defiance. Janai propped herself on the pillows as Amaya retrieved the box. If she must lose her human’s touch, she was going to at least get a great view.

“You didn’t have to bring me anything.” Janai insisted, though she was flattered by the thought. Amaya sat next to Janai and placed the box on her stomach.

“Lower your expectations.” She warned, “It’s practically worthless.” 

The queen lifted the lid and found…she almost jokingly asked if this was actually a gift for Kazi, but thought better of it by the unsure gaze her lover was trying to hide. It was clearly important to Amaya, and that alone made it priceless to Janai.

It was a storybook. Old and worn from use, but its binding strong; someone had it painstakingly put back together. Its title read, ‘Tales of Sky and Earth, a book of fables and legends’. 

“A childhood favorite?” She guessed. Her lover nodded, and started flipping through the pages. Janai caught flashes of little drawings on the tops and bottom of the pages, some much newer than others, done by multiple children if she had to guess, “I see you liked to draw.”

“Sarai did it, too.” Amaya would not accept the blame for all of it, even as old as she was, as old as the defacement was, she would take her big sister down with her. She pointed to what was presumably a tree and a…monkey?...she couldn’t read what the monkey was supposed to be saying. “And these two are Callum and Ezran’s.” 

“Very cute.” The flipping resumed until they reached a story called ‘When the Sun loves the moon’. Janai was meant to read it. The story told the human’s explanation for the Sun’s Eclipse. 

The golden sun thought the silver moon was stealing her light and claiming it as her own, so she started chasing the presumed thief to recover it. Every so often, the powerful sun would catch up to the playful moon and would fight to reclaim its light. The moon was too sly, and would always manage to slip away without losing a single ray. 

Over the years, the sun came to realize that the light hadn’t been stolen, the moon had merely collected the light that missed the ground and fell amongst the stars. She’d done so that she may show her love for the great orb, and had simply enjoyed the chase too much to explain. The sun fell in love with the moon, and vowed to share her light without hesitation. Now, whenever the sun catches up with the moon, the lovers embrace for a few short minutes. The moon absorbs the sun’s rays, then their chase begins again.

“Ah, that sounds vaguely familiar.” Janai smiled upon completion, making the same connections as Amaya had. The pages were flipped again, this time in one fell swoop to the inside of the front cover. Which had an inscription,

To my Sun, may our chase never stop - Amaya

“As long as your light still shines, my Moon, I’ll never stop chasing you.” Janai promised, putting the book in its box and setting it safely aside before pulling her in for a strong kiss, and one after that. Amaya matched her, giving kiss after kiss until they were both breathless and sharing their light once more.

I am backk. Didn't really have time these last days but here i am.

As much as I'm interested in the main plot and Aaravos' era incoming, i first need to know what happened in the camp after architect put out the fire.

Honestly such a beautiful funeral? Simple and tranquil.

Rayla u can't come back after two years and act like nothing happened! I mean i know she says how much things changed but she really hurt him.

Our boy is cryingg. Random but we haven't really got an answer on whether she was unbanished? Also I need to see some Ethari. Like now.

I really like that even tho Soren is a comic relief most of the time, they didn't make him dumb.

I kinda don't get why Viren got so desperate to practically beg that creature? Only excuse i can find is his fascination and obsession with magic. Otherwise they just did it for comic relief I'm sure is coming. I just feel it. Building it up and then an anticlimactic 'surprise'.

Yep. There it is. Viren just being tired of their shit is so funny to me. He didn't ask to be brought back. Can't he just go back to being dead in peace?

I really liked Soren-Zubeia bonding moment. So cute?? And she appreciates his wit!

Ahhhh what happened with the elf??? From the camp? The arhitect is hurt okay but. Aaaa. Imagine just. Being him. And believing that your mother's spirit/soul is lost forever. I want answers! Also Amaya-Gren moments are always so wholesome i love them.

Dunno why but it's surprising to see Zubeia as an active figure. I feel like those in power are often shown as these really passive figures. Idk.

Love how Soren connects with everyone he spends two minutes with. I have a hunch which may be completely wrong but that this hole is the entrance?

Soren being observant about people's emotions? Yes. Giving advice? I feel sth anticlimatic coming again. His lecturing reminded me of Zuko's silver sandwich.

O.M.G. yes. It's not always just love trouble (even tho it's that also). Another PTSD moment. Honestly when he said 'You know, when he took over my whole body and used me like a puppet,' sounded like he was talking to every screenwriter ever. I kinda hope this lil dragon adopts Soren. He deserves his own animal companion.(did u notice everyone has one? I was just reading your post on Runaan's very complicated story that was promised by Aaron Ehasz. The potential crisis Runaan will face in regards, possibly seeing Harrow and his relationship with Rayla, but finding a new lease on life and truly repairing his bond with Rayla. How do you potentially see Runaan going about this and how these Revelations will help him find a new purpose while reconciling with Rayla?

Awww, thanks for the love anon, I really appreciate it. And no I don't mind the ask, it's a really nice one.

I think Runaan having to interact with someone he has killed and/or their loved ones will be an interesting first step in this process. If you've read Bloodmoon Huntress then you know that Runaan is not only legendary because of his love for Xadia but that he also has his regrets and doubts regarding his life as an assassin. Runaan doesn't love his job, he loves Xadia and its people and that's why he has taken on such a heavy duty.

And so I think that interacting with this person or people could be very intriguing as you could show Runaan's true thoughts and feelings towards his duty and the toll it has taken on him. It could, I believe, be the first step for him to take towards a new path and duty, one just as important as an assassin but one which allows him to protect and give back rather than taking lives. It would also be interesting to see Runaan perhaps explain his views on life and the weight of taking one as well as the responsibility and guilt he feels in taking one. I can also see Runaan being the type of person who never forgets the faces of those he kills or their last moments, which could add to this arc and his interactions with Ezran and Callum.

In regards to his relationship to Rayla I think that they're both going to be feeling some guilt and regrets regarding what happened in season 1. Runaan will obviously regret his decision to bring Rayla on the mission while Rayla's regret and guilt is going to revolve around lying to Runaan and Runaan's injuries/binding that she will eventually see when he is finally freed. I think that they're both going to need to have an important conversation with one another where they get to apologise to one another. However that's all I think that they really need for things to be right with one another, they're too similar and love one another too much for it to go any other way, or at least that's what I think.

I also think that finally killing Kimdael will be the final step that Runaan will need to finally put him firmly on a new path. The elf who loves Xadia with all his heart and who truly values life defeating the elf who cares for no one and who sees life as a commodity to use for her own purposes would be a very satisfying end for both Kimdael and Runaan's life as an assassin.

Ultimately I think Runaan's journey will be him discovering a new way to lead and protect his people without having to kill and to leave his loved ones behind. And realising that he can change, become something new, that just as the moon can change and begin anew, he can too.

Abstract notions of right/wrong might come up in philosophy or English classes, but you’d be hard pressed to find character who truly care or are truly driven by this alone.

When people say “Rayla is driven by duty,” I just wonder: duty to whom? To the Silvergrove? Xadia? Callum? Zym? Bait? What Rayla thinks she’s duty-bound to do inevitably becomes a question as to who she is loyal to.

When people say “Rayla is driven by what’s right,” the question I ask is: Right for who? Because what was right for Pyrrah was certainly not what was right for Zym. Over time, it seems Rayla starts to define what the “right thing” for her to do based on who she loves and is devoted to (ie Team Dragang). This character personifies love as devotion and loyalty.

The only characters who care about “Right” in the absolute, abstract sense are probably Harrow, Ezran, and…that’s probably it.

HI LET’S TALK ABOUT THE DRAGON PRINCE

So my friends and i recently acquired a joint Netflix account and I found TDP on the kids profile so I went back to mine and started watching. TBH I didn’t have high expectations for it. It was listed as a kids show but I wanted fantasy bullshit.

Listen here fools. Very much not bullshit. It’s pretty much one of the best shows I’ve ever watched. The characters are so human and well-rounded. A problem I constantly have when consuming story-based content is that I put the characters in a good-or-bad box and when I watch this show, I can’t do that which is a good sign because people aren’t just good or bad. The representation is fantastic. Might have a slight crush on Amaya. The story is also great. Zym, 10/10, hands down best dragon in all the lands. Bait is such a grumpy cutie. It’s humorous without seeming like it’s trying too hard. 500/10 would watch again. I’m not the best source for a review but I did enjoy it a lot so there’s that.

I finished it in a day and I went straight to tumblr for more content okay.

Y'all ever think about the absolute DAY Corvus is having in season 2 episodes 8 and 9? First, he figures out that Rayla is friends with Ezran, not his kidnapper, finds his new king but then learns that Ezran has no idea his father is dead. He then loses sight of Ezran right after finding him, thinks Ezran has been eaten by a banther, only to be told his new king can talk to animals by the same elf he thought was his king's kidnapper. Ezran comes back and what happens? Callum, the king's brother, is doing primal magic without a primal stone. And to top the day off, Ezran is still connected to Zym and needs Corvus to help him teach Zym how to fly, so Corvus is running around with King Ezran flapping his arms on his shoulders. By the time they get to riding on banthers to get back to Katolis, Corvus is probably like

B2:S - Prologue

I've finished reading Book Two: Sky, and I enjoyed it so much that I think I'm going to try to make a little post for each chapter and hit some of the highlights and ideas that I noticed in in each one.

Much of this series will be about the differences and additions in the novel version, and how they contribute to my understanding of story canon. But there will be character appreciation, the odd theory and headcanon, and suchlike as well. I'll save my criticisms for the final post in the series, as they are meta in nature.

Spoilers for Book Two: Sky below.

The Sky section on the black pages was fascinating. The generational approach to a "popular" cautionary tale (aka Warning Story) poses so much potential for story concepts. Such a framing is deliberately created to question the status quo, to challenge it, and to overturn it.

"Nevertheless, she persisted." God, I loved seeing that line! If I put the times that Wonderstorm is subtle on one side of a scale and the times it isn't on the other, it makes such a fun kind of balance. Because some things should not be Moonshadowed, okay, not in this economy.

The moral here is: We all live in the same world, but your perspective on that world matters. Don't let anyone tell you it doesn't. You belong here just as much as everyone else, and your view is valid because you exist. It's okay to keep searching, keep pushing, until you find the right perspective for your ideas and the world comes into focus and makes sense to you.

Prologue thoughts:

I wonder what happened to Callum's letter. I presume that he sent it. Where is it now? Has someone read it?

...Oh. It's in the big pile of mail that Crow Master had for Ezran, isn't it? Aw. Which means there's one more way that someone could learn Rayla's name, including when Ez said it out loud in his throne room. I gotta wonder what significance there is to both boys mentioning Rayla by name, when assassins don't share their names. Is it gonna be tied into why Saleer reacted to her name? Does Aaravos know her name from his time in the Storm Spire with Lain and Tiadrin? Is Viren part of connecting that information together? Will it go further than Viren and Aaravos? Many thoughts.

I'm so soft for Callum choosing to rewrite the letter at the end and call Harrow "Dad." My poor soft boy. His truest feelings have come too late. I wonder if there will be a parallel there with Rayla and Runaan, or with Soren and Viren? Lots of family parallels in this book.

A quick sketch, because I was brainstorming with @mistenflute and we wanted park ranger Ellis, but then sketchy or not, I thought I should post it for AU day of Ezran Appreciation week because there should be more Ellis/Ezran content!

So in this AU, they’re young adults, both working at a national park, Ellis as a newly hired park ranger and Ezran interning as a wildlife veterinarian. Ezran is from the city, and just got his dream internship, and Ellis grew up in the area and knows it all, so she shows him a whole new world 🥺
