That last scene of Belly, Jeremiah, and Conrad in the living room before she goes upstairs and calls her mom - wow oh wow, what a shot! Belly all sad and defeated, then hopeful as she sees Jeremiah and he smiles at her, and she's trying so hard to get to him but there are so many people, and then Conrad comes into the background behind her - he's just always there in all the ways - as she has to pause on her way to Jeremiah, and that's when Jeremiah notices Conrad has appeared - and Conrad sees Belly on her way to Jeremiah, so he walks away in time for Belly to turn around and see him walking away (a common theme near the end of their relationship though this time he followed her after she walked away from him first), only to turn back to Jeremiah who is also walking away - leaving Belly alone to go upstairs and call her mom sobbing </3 - which, fabulous work by Lola, my heart broke for her! I could talk about that scene between the 3 of them for hours but I won't go on and on here, lol.
Such great symbolism. I feel for all the characters there. Lola was amazing , particularly from the fight in the beach onwards.

Welcome to the first annual Miss Hypmic Beauty Pageant!
Provided to you by the Chuohku Ward and Party of Words.
Sponsored by Sigma Inc., Toi Pharmaceutical, and E.L. Medical Co.
Tumblr media
The Miss Hypmic Beauty Pageant is a countrywide, inclusive organization that celebrates all cultures, backgrounds and of course, Divisions. This is an opportunity for the women of the Division Rap Battles to share their stories and drive impact personally, professionally, and philosophically. The women who participate in this event serve as inspirational leaders and role models to their communities and fans all over Japan.
We have a lot of fun and exciting stuff planned for today, for both our lovely ladies and you, the audience and those watching at home! But first let’s go over the activities our contestants will be competing against each other in!
Tumblr media
Note: Each Round will begin with a starting post in which our contestants have a time limit of 1 hour to prepare themselves until it’s time for them to go on stage (aka, making a post on their own respective blogs) then a poll will be conducted and open for a certain period of time before closing. At the final round, all the votes will be grouped together and the one who has the most will be crowned this year’s “Miss Hypmic”!
Round 1 — Fashion Show (Part 1 - ‘Represent Your City!’)
Pretty self explanatory, we’re easing the girls into the first round by a standard fashion show! But there’s a twist, we’ve given the girls a theme and they have to try their best to dress according to the theme. What’s the theme, you ask? I’m glad you asked! The theme for this section is: “Represent Your City/Division” meaning the ladies will have to show their Division Pride with how they dress!
Round 2 — Talent Show
Once again, it’s self explanatory. Our lovely contestants will have the opportunity to wow the crowd and the judges with any special talent or skill they have! Whether it’s singing, acting, gymnastics, and more! There are no limits except murder to what they can do and we eagerly await their showcases! (Note: You don’t necessarily have to write down what talent your OCs have in full detail, a picture or video will work just fine!)
Round 3 — Fashion Show (Part 2 — ‘Beach Episode!’)
Next, our beautiful contestants are back on the runway but this time it’s to have some fun in the sun with the second theme of the fashion show segment, “Beach Episode!”. Get ready to watch the girls put on their cutest or sexiest swimsuit and strut their stuff!
Round 4 — Singing/Rapping Competition
We’ve heard how these girls rap both in a group and solo but can they carry a melody? Let’s put their singing skills to the test with a singing competition! Each contestant must choose one song of their choice to sing (or rap) in front of the audience and judges, solo performances only so no duets or pair ups!
Final Round — Costume Contest (‘Nightmare Mode’)
And last but not least, the final round will be a costume contest! Our ladies will come back to the runway one last time to show their dark side in the final theme of the fashion show segment which is “Nightmare Mode”! Let’s see how the girls get freaky yet fabulous in the final event to win the crown!
Tumblr media
I believe that’s all there is to it! We hope you are excited and looking forward to the competition which will be broadcasted to the entirety of Japan! For those of you watching at home, make sure to tag your PROFILE with the tag #miss hypmic 2023! We wish you a very good day!
To kick off the event, here’s a special performance from our lovely ladies!

PART 3: RETURN TOUR WARDROBE - CAMPY AS FUCK
This is the third part of my 4-part analysis of MCR5, the Masterpost for which can be found here. Link to next part found at the bottom of the post. If there's something I missed, or you'd like to add your own spin/elaborate on something I brushed over, by all means I'd love to hear it!!
So for Campy As Fuck, we’ve got a great range of costuming that seems incredibly intentional and costuming that seems so stupidly fun. Deep political commentary can coexist with just doing things for the bit and because you simply want to. Gerard did say that this tour "was the most fun we’ve ever had. Every day it’s like clown city!" Also, for my own ease of reading, costumes that were designed by Marina Toybina will have an asterisk (*). I’ve also had to do a fair bit of research for this and found some things that I haven’t heard anyone else talk about.
In an interview with Marina Toybina, she said this:
”I didn’t know if they had a designer. Then he did mention Colleen (Atwood) was doing something for him.”
I don’t think it’s common knowledge that Colleen Atwood also worked on the tour outfits. She did the costuming for The Black Parade and Danger Days, so it’s fantastic to see her back for the tour, and it explains some gaps in the costuming. Toybina only did 11 of the characters Gerard portrayed onstage, some of the outfits are DIYed, and a few of them I speculate could be Atwood’s work.
META-MAN: “I feel so powerful!”
Tumblr media
The first outright Costume in the reunion tour. At this show in Milton Keynes, Gerard had this white suit splattered in blood and tattered, white mask with the Meta logo drawn on their forehead. Pretty clear-cut commentary on Meta, how you shouldn’t let corporations own your identity and such. Gerard went on a 4-minute spiel on his feelings about Meta-verse. Here’s an abridged version of it here:
“We don’t want your meta-verse. We don’t want you having every single detail of our lives, and CONTROL over it… living your life on a screen, and giving everything- giving these corporations everything. And living in a new and beautiful and EXCITING, virtualistic fucking world. I feel the same way that David Lynch feels about watching a movie on your telephone… I’m not judging, there’s no judgement. You do your thing on there, I’ve done my thing… Look, there can be great things to share on there… Just don’t give those bastards EVERYTHING! Keep some for yourself and the people you love.”
To me, this is reminiscent of the ethos of Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys. The Fabulous Killjoys fight against Better Living Industries or BL/ind. (hah! Get it?!) who have seized utter control of Battery City in post-apocalyptic 2019 California. The story encompasses topics of capitalism, consumerism, corporations, and corporate greed.
Not any clear ties to MCR5 here, aside from maybe talk of corporations, but there doesn’t have to be. This works beautifully as a little statement piece from Mr. Way here.
CLOWN GERARD: “They are gonna have to bury me in this motherfucking filthy clown suit.”
Tumblr media
Gerard Way is a filthy fucking clown. This is unbelievably fun, and so far removed from the established MCR lore.
I think clowns also embody the spirit of the return tour: they’re getting silly and having fun with it and not taking themselves so seriously. I’m vaguely reminded of Hesitant Alien, and the psychology of Lola. They would look right at home next to a clown, methinks.
Again, no clear MCR5 ties as it’s not necessary. This is just so fucking fun.
UNCLE FESTER????:
Tumblr media
The ghoulish/skeletal makeup is familiar to MCR. This whole look though? It’s something.
That raincoat-poncho-thing appears to be that earthy green that’s appeared throughout the tour, albeit a lot grosser. ‘Doug’ is written on the front which is a nod to MCR’s producer. The silhouette of this entire fit reminded me of Uncle Fester from The Addams Family. The themes of that franchise (death/decay/vermin/rot/reanimation) wouldn’t be so far removed from the themes of MCR5. That being said, I don’t know if Gerard is even a fan of The Addams Family so we’re definitely reaching.
CLOWN GERARD (REPRISE):
Tumblr media
Unlike the previous clown outfit which was very circus-y, this reads a lot more like Joker. They’re both sort of decrepit jesters, but this has a little less whimsy than the former.
The shirt they’re wearing is a Watchmen tee. Watchmen and Joker are both rooted in comic books. Gerard loves comic books. Maybe it’s that simple. Clowns are not familiar to MCR in the slightest. I did say that the clowns popping up could be symbolic for how fun the tour is for the band, but I’m reminded of something Gerard said after the release of Revenge regarding the attention they had garnered.
“There’s a fine line between being treated like a demi-god and a circus monkey. It’s almost the same thing”
Dressing up like a clown because you feel silly and jovial is all fun. Painting clown makeup on your face to comment on the way you feel you’re being commodified and treated like an attraction is scathing.
CRYING BLOOD GERARD:
Tumblr media
More religious subtext here. MCR’s first album ‘I Brought You My Bullets You Brought Me Your Love’ features a song called Lady of Sorrows. The Lady of Sorrows refers to the Mary mother of Jesus in Catholicism. Gerard and Mikey were both raised Catholic, something Gerard has said ‘is some scary shit.’ So the Lady of Sorrows is depicted crying for all the sorrow she has suffered (Jesus dying etc.), with statues of Mary being known to, through some sort of divine miracle, cry real tears or blood. The black sclera contacts are a real nice touch.
Jesus’ story is technically one of rebirth? Which appears to be a very explicit theme of MCR5?? And the Virgin Mary could almost make the cut for FEMCR as a historical (??) woman who is mythologised and experiences a lot of tragedy? There’s layers here, both with the religious iconography and what may be a Virgin Mary cosplay.
SKELETON!!!!:
Tumblr media
Now this? THIS is so fun. Skeleton iconography is very familiar to MCR through The Black Parade. This is so campy. It’s giving shitty Halloween costume. Back during The Black Parade it was fairly common for the band members, Gerard especially, to don skeleton face paint for performances. Case in point:
Tumblr media
Skeletons are very at-home with MCR. The skeleton one-piece, however? It’s skewing away from those traditional themes of death, grief and illness that are present in TBP. This skeleton is silly and fun and campy. Skeleton Gerard reads as another nod to MCR’s established aesthetic, to what the band represented before, and yes, we are going to acknowledge it exists but we are moving on from that. You wanted The Black Parade? You wanted skeletons? Sure! Here’s our frontman in this stupid skeleton suit from Party City.
MY CATMICAL ROMEOWNCE:
Tumblr media
Babe. BABE. Can I be real for a moment? Can I speak freely for just a second? I love you so much, but you are so fucking weird.
In all honesty though, I do think this is at least alluding to the established motifs of MCR. Gerard spoke on tour about the stray cat they took in during quarantine who brings them dead rats. The Foundations of Decay refers to vermin, and there’s rat iconography on the set as well as Gerard’s weird rambles about rats. They had a shirt spray painted with the word ‘rats’ one night, and this may be the follow up to that. I will say the neckline on that sweater is incredibly Wine Aunt, and we love to see it.
As I’ve stated before, we are the rats. We are the vermin swarm. Mr. Way?? Are you out to get us or what?
BLACK SWAN:
Tumblr media
This costume is really cool, but I have not watched Black Swan so there’s not a lot I can say about it. From what I gather it’s about ballet and about the ballet Swan Lake and there’s themes of perfectionism. I skimmed the Wikipedia page and that was about it. If might go watch the movie, come back and rewrite this entire bit.
When I was researching however, I DID come across Black Swan Theory; a metaphor for the reality that just because something has not happened does not mean that it cannot occur in the future. (Britannica). So something that has not happened? And may seem unlikely but is not an impossible occurrence? Like, mayhaps, a fifth MCR album? Think about it for a little.
(If you're familiar with Black Swan and you have stuff to add, please please please by all means I know there's probably a lot I'm missing here.)
WATCHMEN REFERENCE?:
Tumblr media
A not-so-subtle-but-not-so-obvious reference to Gerard Way’s appearance at Comic Con in 2010:
Tumblr media
The inclusion of the bullet through the skull I think is reminiscent of the iconic Watchmen smiley face.
Watchmen tackles themes of nuclear warfare and war. It’s incredibly rooted in a real-world narrative, and explores and deconstructs heroes/superheros in a grounded setting. The narrative of MCR5 is going to be more raw, more realistic in this sense. With references to 9/11, and functioning as an almost meta-commentary on the band’s rebirth itself, we’re moving away from a concept that’s fantastical like in Revenge, and to something more akin to TBP. Watchmen is also explicitly about war, which is an established theme for The Foundations of Decay and the backdrop of the Return Tour.
As A DC/’Superhero’ Comic, that grounded, grittiness that’s not so common to typical superhero comics is a lot of what Watchmen encompasses. Gerard has talked extensively about how much Watchmen influenced them as a writer and a person. It’s likely this might just be an ode to an incredible piece of art, but the themes of MCR5 and Watchmen marry into each other quite well.
*BAT GERARD:
Tumblr media
Now this? THIS is Camp. The big, black boots, the gloves, the WINGS. You wanted vampires? How about bats? How about a stupid, slutty bat costume?
No connection to MCR5 this is just delightful.
*CASINO GERARD:
Tumblr media
The sparkly gold tux? It’s fantastic. ‘The house always wins’ was written on the drum that night and is in reference to casinos. To make a profit, the ‘house’ needs to be skewed against the players. We’re a few neurons off from turning that into a grand metaphor for capitalism.
This night they performed a Frank Sinatra cover. I totally dig it.
*SHEET GHOST GERARD:
Tumblr media
Oh man oh man oh man-
As is with basically every costume in Campy as Fuck, it’s just stupidly fun. This may be one of my favourite ones. It’s just so fun. The references to the undead and spirits and ghosts seem familiar from The Black Parade, but this still feels wholly new.
HELENA/REVENGE-ISH GERARD:
Tumblr media
This feels almost like nostalgia-baiting. MCR wants us to draw connections between the colour palettes of this outfit and the Revenge age. The stunt they pulled at WWWYFest was a much more obvious play on the toxicity of nostalgia culture. The black with little pops of red is so reminiscent of the band’s Revenge uniforms, and I think this is paying ode to that. Also their flower is so big it looks a little silly.
Tumblr media
I read this as an ode to Helena; the black with the red flowers. MCR keeps toeing that line of familiar and new and I adore it.
*GERACULA:
Tumblr media
VAMPIRE TIME BABEY!!!
It’s already been established that vampires hold significance in the MCR mythos. They’ve written 5 songs, maybe more, that are about or use vampires as a metaphor. To my knowledge, vampires have been referenced in MCR since the first album, but we haven’t seen them appear in music videos or in costuming. UP UNTIL NOW!
Gerard Dracula. Geracula. I believe this is a costume recreated from the 1931 movie ‘Dracula.’ It’s the traditional, gothic vampire that MCR loves. It’s also incredibly Camp. Vampires have thematic relevance to a lot of MCR’s messages, about addiction, but I suppose as undead they’re sort of a symbol of rebirth? I’m pushing for this to have MCR5 ties but it really doesn’t need to, it’s so fun.
Tumblr media
RED SKULL? PHANTOM? I DUNNO???:
Tumblr media
So! I’ve been pointing out allusions to military/anti-war commentary with the green and camo throughout the entire tour thus far. This could be read as a reference to The Ghost of You music video (set in WWII) with the military uniform, or something that could just be Fun, but it feels far too intentional for that. Why the bright red? Why not black or green?
Hear me out: this is the man who stands upon the hill in The Foundations of Decay. He’s the military leader, the one who has endured the battles and gets to be canonised in death. He’s in red and black because that was the unofficial ‘uniform’ for My Chemical Romance and their fanbase. He’s our leader and we are his devotees, his mob, his minions.
That one is a fairly big stretch, but we’re trying to cover as much ground as possible. It’s like monkeys and typewriters, maybe if I ramble for long enough, I’ll write Shakespeare.
I think this outfit may be a Colleen Atwood costume; it’s too high quality to be store bought but doesn’t appear on Toybina’s Instagram.
God sorry this one was so, so long, I promise the next part won't be. I think.

🏳️‍🌈 Pride Challenge Day 24: Kinky Boots (2005)
The film that inspired the musical sensation! Charlie Price teams up with fabulous drag queen Lola to safe his late-father's factory.
Rating: 4.9/5
I *love* this film! The musical is one of my favourites - Lola is one of my favourite fictional characters.
The movie plays with gender in a really great way, one of the themes is "What makes a man" and ultimately, I'd argue that the movie gives several answers and no answers. It makes you, the viewer, think about it for yourself, but gives lots of possible examples.
Wish Movie!Charlie was a stronger character though; I love the changes they made to him for the musical. And I'm really glad they took out Lola's subtle little crush on Charlie for the stage version too - so tired of that trope even if it's handled really well in the film.
Happy Pride Y'all 👢❤️🧡💛💚💙💜

I keep on seeing news articles plastering “they understood the assignment” all over the met gala for celebrities who are notable, yet didn’t understand. So here is my list of people who UNDERSTOOD the assignment and why.
Tumblr media
First we have Rosalía in Rick Owens. The ode to the Wild Wild West with the camp of a high fashion event is everything. From the red leather to the fringe everywhere, this look is an +A
Tumblr media
Next up is Erykah Badu in Thom Browne. The nod to the 1950s American gangster here really pulls out the Americana for me. It gives me Las Vegas mob boss reloaded. With the wiener dog purse and the crystal jewelry it’s another +A for me!
Tumblr media
Here we have Lourdes “Lola” Leon wearing Jeremy Scott of Moschino. With hair down to here and hair everywhere, this 70s inspired look has me on the floor. When I saw this, I instantly felt a nod to Cher and ate up every moment since. Another +A for me
Tumblr media
Okay, now stop and take a moment to absorb Jeremy Pope wearing Phlemuns. This outfit is taking back a piece of history to put in broad display of the masses. With the cape fashioned to resemble a cotton holding bag and the modern silhouette of the outfit, all finished with a cotton flower on the lapel - this outfit holds beauty and power. 110% from me.
Tumblr media
Coming up we have Ms. MJ Rodrigues rocking Thom Browne (a popular designer on this list). I love the 80s vibe this outfit is giving me! Somehow this garment lives between then and now and it collected everything in between. I truly think the theme was met here. A solid A for sure.
Tumblr media
Walking the runway is Quannah Chasinghorse wearing Dundas. Quannah is quickly putting the word super in front of model with this outfit. This stunning gold ensemble with bright and beautiful handmade turquoise jewelry really ties together current fashion with tradition. In this photo the true America is really represented. 110% once again!
Tumblr media
Now hold your horses for this one! In rides Kim Petras on a stunning gown by Collins Strada. This dress speaks to every horse girl waiting to ride away. The touch of country floral with the whimsy of a horse head bodice makes this one for the galleries and the stables. Blue ribbons all the way with an +A
Tumblr media
Next up we have Paloma Elsesser wearing Zac Posen. Despite its understated nature, it’s play on early American fashion with the ornate bodice and plumage on the train really speak to me. When paired with the modern sleek and elegant silhouette, this dress highlights the wearers beauty. Very refreshing earning it an A
Tumblr media
A vision in red, here we have Kerby Jean-Raymond wearing Pyer Moss. I don’t know if it was intentional, but this vest in red makes a statement to me. This could be a statement about many social issues or simply a fashion statement, and both ways it lands heavy in my books. Also it’s just a fabulously tailored suit, and who doesn’t love that! +A
Tumblr media
Last but not least we have Jackie Aina wearing Fe Noel. This is what every Floridian thinks they are but will never be. With the playful flamingo purse and the tease of dress revealing a darker pink body suit underneath, this is the envy of every woman and every lawn. I think this is such a clever play on Americana, and one I wouldn’t have thought of. 10/10 earning it another +A in my books.

What I think some Monster High characters favorite musicals are: (I might make a p2)
Frankie: Mamma Mia
I feel like our favorite klutz would love the feel good vibe of this show. The music is something that I think is right up her alley. Also, I feel like Frankie heavily relates to Sophie.
Tumblr media
Draculaura: Hairspray
Again, another feel good show for our favorite vegan vampire cinnamon role. She would love the upbeat music and the charming themes.
Tumblr media
Clawdeen: Kinky Boots
ALRIGHT! I think Clawdeen would be a big Kinky Boots Stan. She ofc would love the costumes and the music by Cyndi Lauper. She loves the message of being who you are and raising people up.
Tumblr media
Cleo: Also Kinky Boots
Kinda the same thing as Clawdeen. But, she would absolutely love how fabulous Lola is. Ofc, she would love all of the drag in the show and the banger soundtrack.
Tumblr media
Lagoona: Either Roger and Hammerstein’s Cinderella or Once On This Island
I feel like Lagoona would love the fairy tale aspect of Cinderella and the tropical love story of Once On This Island. Since these shows have kind of a similar vibe, I feel like Lagoona would love the love stories and love the characters.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Deuce: Newsies
This is a bit weird but, hear me out. I think Deuce would love the cast being mostly guys. He would lovingly call it “the show for bros” or something like that. I think he would also like the story of a group of underdogs standing up to something that’s unfair.
Tumblr media
Ghoulia: Matilda
First of all, this show is right up Ghoulia’s alley. Not only is it about a ridiculously smart girl, but it’s also about overcoming obstacles that are in her life. She would secretly jam out of Revolting Children and love the themes of growing up.

DWTS TOUR REVIEW - RADIO CITY
Tumblr media
OK. I apologize that this is about 100 years late lmfao, but LETS JUST JUMP RIGHT INTO IT.
I started the day off at work, which wasn’t as bad as I had anticipated because I felt like I had something to look forward to once my shift was over lol. I went to a bar with a few friends before heading over to radio city because I didn’t wanna go back and forth between my house and manhattan since I was already in the city. I had a few drinks, which is probably why I was so vocal for Jenna (and valenna) cause I’m usually SUPER quite lmfao.
Once I actually met up with my sister and mom it was pretty hectic. There were SO MANY people at the show. I knew it would be intense, but I was really shocked by how packed it was. It was so packed I couldn't even take a pee break before/during/after the show. IT WAS ROUGH. On to more important things tho !!!
So right before the show began it was easy to spot Mama J up towards the front. She’s super tiny in person and was grinning from ear to ear, I can’t imagine the immense pride she must have felt knowing her daughter was about to perform at Radio City (for the third time). Shortly after that I spotted Mama & Papa C strolling down towards their seats while holding hands. Jen’s mom waved at them so happily, it was pretty precious, ngl. There was an “in laws” hug exchanged and then they sat down next to each other.
Sharna was not hard to miss (red hair is easy to spot anywhere). She was sitting towards the front as well. A line for photos began quickly and ended quickly lol. She took a few and then sat down and people just began taking photos of her cause I’m sure she wanted to just chill and watch her friends kill it. No one was being disrespectful, which was awesome lol.
Tumblr media
Lights went down and the crowd began cheering. Opening number was FABULOUS. I was living for it. The song, the red costumes. It made me feel super HYPED. Val got a lot of screams when he popped up in the little video segment before the NY dance began. I’m gonna be honest for the amount of people that were there I wanted people to be louder when it came to the cheering, BUT let me not complain.
I felt like the show (as a whole) had a decent flow to it. The NY theme felt RIGHT since we were in New York lol, but I wasn’t so crazy about all the numbers. I also wasn’t super into Country night or Las Vegas during s27... so I wasn't THAT into it on tour either. I will say EMMA IS HILARIOUS AS ELVIS (AND AS HERSELF LMFAO). So with that being said I’m just going to review the show by dancers not necessarily by dance.
EMMA: LOVE HER. When she and Sasha had their little bit about the judges and her not sharing her mirrorball with Sash, I was loling. She’s got personality for DAYS. And she always wows me with her dancing more so in person rather than on the show. She looked SO GOOD in her number with the boys. SHEESH. I also really loved her in “feeling good”.
SASHA: I feel like it’s only appropriate to follow up with Sasha lol. He’s got great comedic timing. The transition between the boys paso number and his number with Jen is BRILLIANT, everyone was cracking up. SPEAKING OF BRILLIANT !!! I love everything about his number with Jen. I was exhausted just watching it, but that foot work thooooo and those tricks ?! EVERYTHING. I loved the couples video segment, esha gave the crowd some good laughs. SPEAKING OF GOOD LAUGHS....
GLEB: Gleb and Artems couple segment was too funny. A bromance for life.  They were so enjoyable in “L-O-V-E”. Gleb really took me by surprise with “You Say”. I feel like we don’t get a chance to see him do contemporary that often, but he is such a strong partner in that number. LIVE FOR IT. Gleb was also so great in “feeling good”. That role was perfect for him. Loved Val and Sash coming out at the end of the number as well lmfao. I also loved his number with Wit so much. He is so passionate when he dances. *WHEW*
ARTEM: Keeping it going with the bromace. ARTEM ARTEM ARTEM. He really does something to me when he dances LIKE WOW DOES HE! I can’t even explain it because he’s not necessarily my favorite male pro on the show, but that man can DANCE. He’s so smooth and his hands are actually to die for. He’s just so strong, but also so soft when he needs to be. Everything he does is just.... right, that is all. “Tu Sonrisa” is not only one of my favorite songs, but it was one of my favorite numbers on tour. Artem is such a great partner for Wit.
WIT: I love that Wit was on tour, I’m sure that’s so exciting for her and her fans since it’s been a min. She’s super smooth on stage and brings lots of sass. Two numbers that really stood out for me with her were her numbers with Gleb and Artem. So much passion and so clean with Gleb. And just pure fire with Artem. THAT LIFT @ THE END OF “TU SONRISA” IS MY FAVORITE. I loved that we got to see some witlo numbers on tour (even if I couldn’t see her perform them with Milo). Alan was able to bring that same energy outta Wit, which I loved.
ALAN: My mans Alan, killing it left and right. He is such a ball of energy and just good vibes, I love him. He is so strong and has such a flashy personality that you can’t help, but fall in love with him. I loved seeing him dance those Witlo numbers. He surprised me with that Charleston, but I also shouldn’t be all that surprised because he always brings so much energy to everything he does and that was great to witness live. I am a sucker for him dancing with Hayley so “I Won’t Dance” was also a stand out number for me. A pleasant surprise was his number with Britt. I hadn’t watched it before going to the show, but I loved everything about it.
BRITT: She’s looking so much stronger in her ballroom numbers and I am living for it. I never realized how much I needed her to dance with Alan lol. LET ME TELL YOU !!! THEY WERE TRULY FIRE TOGETHER. I love that she’s putting her all into her ballroom numbers, but were she really shined for me was in “You Say”. Ms Britt is a STAR. She displays soooo much emotion when she dancing, I love it. I’m so happy she’s on this tour. #BrittForPro2k19
HAYLEY: While we’re on the topic of shining in contempary numbers... HAYLEY. She’s also lovely to watch. I noticed her a lot more in the girls number this tour than last! I also felt like she really got to shine in her number with Brandon. I loved them as partners. I feel like he brings out the best in her. Their contemporary was so smooth and those lifts were challenging, but they made them look effortless.
BRANDON: I’m really happy Brandon is getting the recognition her deserves. He’s so incredibly versatile, I loved watching him in every number. He was so great as the jazzercise instructor. I was ROLLING when he said “Gleb may have two kids, but they aren’t the only ones calling him daddy.” I can’t even explain to y’all how excited I was when I learned Brandon and Jen had a number together. I loved their collab with Alan Salazar, so when I heard they had a dance together I nearly passed out. Another number Brandon had a stand out moment in was the boys paso number. He was so strong and so poised, he really held his own in that one.
VAL: Since we’re on the topic of attention grabbers, VALENTIN CHMERKOVSKIY LADIES AND GENTS... He is such an amazing performer. Maybe it’s just me, but my eyes go directly towards him whenever he’s on stage. He’s got so much charisma and such fabulous technique, truly is out of this world. His personality shined in the NY number and his strength was on another level during the boys paso, but what I love most is how gentle he was during “Girl Crush” and how smitten he looked during “Love On The Brain”. One of my favorite things about valenna  dancing together is how wrapped up and lost they get in each other. When they’re partnered it almost makes you feel like they’re the only ones in the room.
JENNA: AND LAST, BUT CERTAINLY NOT LEAST.... my main gal, Jen. I feel like I could write an essay on what Jenna’s dancing is like live, but we don’t have time for all that... in fact, if you’ve made it this far in my review, I truly appreciate you lmfao. Jenna has such a stage presence it’s like your attention is diverted directly to her once she hits the stage. She’s got such flawless technique and such beautiful lines that everything she does looks so sharp and yet so effortless. My eyes were glued to her during “You Say”. Everything about “Whatever Lola Wants” was just pure boss lady vibes. She’s just in charge whenever she’s moving and I LIVE FOR IT. THAT’S WHAT IT’S LIKE WHEN YOU STAN A QUEEN. Everything I had mentioned in Val’s little mini review clearly applies to Jen as well. For me valenna is the “IT” couple when it comes to dancing together, they are just truly something magical.
I HAD SUCH A LOVELY TIME AND I LOVE SHARING IT ALL WITH YOU GUYS. ❤️

LGBT book list
Hey! I’m the anonymous who sent you an ask earlier about having an LGBT book list. I don’t have tumblr, hence the message :) So I’ve broken it into two major categories, and tried to include books from as many different genres as possible, so that there’s a wide variety for people to choose from.
Books whose major characters are LGBT and/or have LGBT themes:
Basically anything by David Levithan (YA)
If I Was Your Girl: Meredith Russo (YA)
Symptoms of Being Human: Jeff Garvin (YA)
The Perks of Being a Wallflower: Stephen Chbosky (YA)
Carry On: Rainbow Rowell (YA)
Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe: Benjamin Alire Saenz (YA)
Every Heart a Doorway: Seanan McGuire (YA)
I’ll Give You the Sun: Jandy Nelson (YA)
Basically anything by Poppy Z. Brite (horror and general fiction)
The Raven Cycle: Maggie Stiefvater (YA)
Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda: Becky Albertalli (YA)
Ask the Passengers: A.S. King (YA)
The Pants Project: Cat Clarke (MG)
The Song of Achilles: Madeline Miller (fiction)
Basically anything by Sarah Waters (fiction)
Nightrunner series: Lynn Flewelling (fantasy)
Valdemar: Last Herald-Mage series: Mercedes Lackey (fantasy)
None of the Above: I.W. Gregorio (YA)
Middlesex: Jeffrey Eugenides (fiction)
One Man Guy: Michael Barakiva (YA)
More Happy Than Not: Adam Silvera (YA)
The Art of Being Normal: Lisa Williamson (YA)
Gena/Finn, Not Otherwise Specified: Hannah Moskowitz (YA)
This is Where it Ends: Marieke Nijkamp (YA)
Tonight the Streets Are Ours: Leila Sales (YA)
The books in this part of the list have characters that are LGBT, but play only minor roles, or you don’t know about it until late in the book etc.
Books featuring minor LGBT characters:
Lola and the Boy Next Door: Stephanie Perkins (YA)
American Psycho: Bret Easton Ellis (fiction)
Garden Spells, Lost Lake, First Frost: Sarah Addison Allen (fiction)
Ready Player One: Ernest Cline (science fiction)
Emmy and Oliver: Robin Benway (YA)
The Millennium trilogy: Stieg Larsson (mystery/thriller)
Noggin: John Corey Whaley (YA)
Extraordinary Means: Robyn Schneider (YA)
Elusion, Etherworld: Claudia Gabel (YA)
Sarah’s Key: Tatiana de Rosnay (historical fiction)
Passenger, Wayfarer: Alexandra Bracken
And these books are ones I haven’t read but I believe have LGBT characters:
The Miseducation of Cameron Post: Emily M. Danforth
Rubyfruit Jungle: Rita Mae Brown
Keeping You a Secret: Julie Anne Peters
Fun Home: Alison Bechdel
Girl Walking Backwards: Bett Williams
Ash: Malinda Lo
Beautiful Music for Ugly Children: Kirstin Cronns-Mills
The Bermudez Triangle: Maureen Johnson
How to Repair a Mechanical Heart: J.C. Lillis
Annie on My Mind, Holly’s Secret: Nancy Garden
And the Band Played On: Randy Shiltz

Everything Leads to You: Nina Lacour
Luna: Julie Ann Peters
Written on the Body, Oranges Are Not the Only Fruit: Jeanette Winterson
From the Notebooks of Melanin Sun: Jacqueline Woodson
The Color Purple: Alice Walker
More Than This: Patrick Ness
I am J: Cris Beam
For Today I am a Boy: Kim Fu
Hero: Perry Moore
Brokeback Mountain: Annie Proulx
Blue is the Warmest Color: Julie Maroh
Okay, I think that’s all I have for now, though I know I am missing a lot of books. This is a good start though for people looking for something to read. I’ve read all of these except for the last list, so any questions or recommendations, I am happy to provide. Also, I’m always up for chatting with a fellow johnlocker. The only friend I have who watches Sherlock is firmly in the ‘Sherlock is asexual, but if he loved anyone it would be Molly’ camp >_< Anyway, I love your blog. Keep up the great work. Cheers!

Library Life & Book Recommends
New Post has been published on https://untoadoption.org/library-life-book-recommends/
Library Life & Book Recommends
This is not inaccurate. Still, the library’s best when you want to “try before you buy.” As homeschoolers, we’re frequent flyers of our local library year-round, but it remains on our regular summer rotation for more than merely literary pursuits– an ideal hangout, with piles of free resources, fun summer programs, performances, classes, friends we bump into around every corner, and (bless it) air-conditioning. I picked up a roll of quarters so I can always feed the meter and try to always bring along a treat for impromptu picnics.
Firstborn won Jamba Juice gift card from the Summer Reading Program drawing this week! #BookwormingFTW
We’re still finishing up The Extraordinary Education of Nicholas Benedict aloud as a family, but at the suggestion of a dear friend we also picked up an audio collection of a several of Roald Dahl’s lesser-known short stories. Bonus: They’re narrated by Andrew Scott, a fabulously talented Irish actor we have long admired from Sherlock.

Imagine you’re perusing your local library’s shelves when one day, to your astonished delight, you discover two of your book-favorites collided: Charlie & Lola meets Pippilotta Delicatessa Windowshade Mackrelmint Ephraim’s Daughter Longsocking (aka Lauren Child + Astrid Lindgren) I promptly ran home and ordered a copy on Amazon, for keeps.

In that same vein, behold: Anne of Green Gables in graphic novel form was a recent addition to our permanent home library.

On deck to read aloud is the The Incorrigible Children of Ashton Place, a six book series that’s come highly recommended. I do love a good series.

I’m presently slogging through John McPhee’s meaty Draft No. 4, On the Writing Process, at the suggestion of book sensei Modern Mrs. Darcy. Did I mention I’m stoked to be on her latest launch team for upcoming I’d Rather Be Reading? I’ve read an advance of the first two chapters and foreword, and I’m stoked for the hard copy in the mail.

Today on Love Books Group we have a treat for you with a special feature with author Susi Osbourne. Enjoy!
Book Synopsis
Following years of sexual abuse and resulting psychological trauma, Angelica Stone has learnt to rely solely on herself. Unwilling to allow anyone to get close to her, Angelica is reluctant to allow her work colleague Lola into her life. Lola, in contrast to the damaged Angelica, is from what appears to be a happy middle-class family. But all is not what it seems… An unlikely bond is formed between the two as they learn more about eachother. As they become closer, a series of life-changing events leave Lola on the verge of ruin. Will the friends be able to better themselves and have the lives they so desperately want? Or will they succumb to the expectations and the path already laid out for them? Angelica Stone follows both characters in their own journey of self-discovery. This close and in-depth look into the lives of Angelica and Lola will see the reader laugh and cry as the two women learn about themselves and the invaluable friendship they have. Susi Osborne worked within the library service and now runs Northwick LitFest in Cheshire, where she lives. Susi also worked as a classroom assistant in a junior school and, in addition, has had first hand experience of social workers and the adoption system.
Susi Osborne
Susi Osborne lives in Winsford in Cheshire with her Scottish husband, her actress daughter and two mischievous little dogs. Their house is termed affectionately (hopefully!) amongst their numerous friends as the Osborne madhouse for obvious reasons. They do a lot of entertaining. Susi also has an adult son and a grandson who live nearby.
Before she became a writer, Susi worked in libraries for many years. She also worked as a classroom assistant in a junior school. In addition to her writing, Susi organises Northwich LitFest, which she has been running for the past six years.
Alongside the writing of her latest book, Angelica Stone, Susi has been raising money for Centrepoint, the charity for youth homelessness, and has set up a Just Giving Page in her name.
Susi is a firm believer in the fact that it’s never too late to do anything. ‘You have one life – go out and grab it with both hands!’ She is available to give talks at festivals, events, libraries and reading groups and can be contacted at [email protected]
Guest Post By Susi Osborne
Hi Kelly – and thank you so much for inviting me to have a guest spot on your blog today.
November already? That soon came around. And I don’t really want this year to end – 2017 has been an amazing year for me with all kinds of good things happening, including meeting some lovely people along the way. Having said that, this hasn’t just been an amazing year, in actual fact it has been an incredible decade altogether for me personally.
It all started in the February of 2008 when I had a milestone birthday. It was one I hadn’t particularly been looking forward to as it really did, supposedly, signify the onslaught of old age. Hmm. People kept asking what I would be doing by way of celebration. I procrastinated at length. Did I really just want to mark the occasion quietly, have a meal with a few close friends? Would that be the beginning of the downward spiral, on the slippery slope towards ‘the end’? Visions of pottering around garden centres, coach trips and worse, drifted past me. No. It could not be.
Maybe it’s something to do with being an Aquarian in The Age of Aquarius, but I’ve always been a bit of a rebel. And so, to mark the dawning of this new decade of my hitherto relatively crazy-free life, I decided to throw… a Tarty Party. It was a red and black themed affair, obviously, and I wore huge red feathered wings and felt a million dollars.
The only downside of the whole evening was that in the heat from all the dancing I did, the dye from my wings came out all over my back and gave me an allergic reaction. But, heigh-ho, it was a great party!
And that was just the start. Just a few days later my very first book, The Ripples of Life, was published, opening up a whole new world that I had really known very little about before. I threw myself into it wholeheartedly. Coincidentally, it was also at this time that I met a person who has since become my closest friend. We met when she gave me my first ever radio interview.
So that was the beginning. Two more books followed – Grace & Disgrace and Secrets, Lies & Butterflies, each with their own whirl of publicity. But, in the midst of all of this, a random thought entered my head. I had travelled all over the country to various literary events and festivals and always found them really interesting. So here was the thought. Why not organise a literary festival in Cheshire, where I live? Great idea, Susi. Have you ever organised anything like this before? No, just summer fairs at my kids’ school. Do you have any funding? No. Do you have any help? No. Great. Let’s do it then.
And so Northwich LitFest was born. I’ve been running it for six years now and I have to say, with the voice of experience – anyone can start one but, it is definitely not a task for the faint-hearted. That very first year was manic, when I stop to think about it. I didn’t have a budget – never have I had to blag so many things for free in my entire life! Convincing venues
that they would love to hold an event there without charge. Convincing writers that they would like to travel to little-known Northwich in Cheshire to speak about their books and stay overnight in my house, if they wished, as I couldn’t afford to pay for a hotel. And, finally, convincing the people of Northwich that they would love to come to the events even though there had never been a literary festival held in the town ever before.
But it worked. I had the lovely Adele Parks as one of the guest speakers that first year and she was wonderful. Despite a somewhat shaky start (for me), as I worried that no one would turn up.They did. In fact more than sixty people came to listen, and were enthralled – it was a great evening. Afterwards Adele sent me a copy of an article she’d written in which she said she’d been unsure what to expect, but I’d attacked the organisation of Northwich LitFest ‘with gusto’ and she was impressed. She wasn’t wrong. And I haven’t changed!
All of that was six years ago, and since then Northwich LitFest has continued to go from strength to strength. There have been some amazing speakers – Stella Duffy, Carole Matthews, Rowan Coleman, Angela Clarke, Paul Burston, to name but a few. Fifteen events in total throughout the month of June each year.
Northwich LitFest is a tremendous amount of work and brings an even larger amount of stress – so much so that at the end of every June I always say ‘never again’. I don’t think anyone believes me any more
though as I’m still here! And next year’s LitFest is already in the planning stages. Laura Wilkinson and Christie Barlow will be here!
Actually, one of the speakers I had at last year’s LitFest was the fabulous Sophie Parkin (daughter of Molly Parkin), who gave a fascinating talk and slideshow entitled ‘Scurrilous Tales of Soho’ which tied in with her book about The Colony Room Club. Sophie and her husband stayed with us for the weekend and we had a crazy day out in Liverpool, visiting an art exhibition, perusing vintage clothes shops, and eating enough food to feed a small army. Afterwards, Sophie asked whether I’d like to hold a book launch celebration for my latest book, Angelica Stone, in her arts club, Vout-O-Reenees in London. Who was I to say no?
My book launch for Angelica Stone was a night I shall remember forever. Vout-O-Reenees is such an amazing place, and Sophie and Jan so welcoming. It was lovely also to spend such a special night surrounded by family and friends, as well as writers, actors, etc, who I’ve come to know through the Litfest, and that they had travelled from near and far to be there to support me. My only one big regret is that we were enjoying ourselves so much that we hardly took any photos!
So, Angelica Stone was off to a great start – I hope it continues. It’s a much grittier story than my first three books. The idea for Angelica originally stemmed from thinking about how you don’t get a choice about
which family you are to be born into. And, if you need to do so, is it ever possible to break free from the cycle of life into which you’ve been born?
Angelica had been sexually abused a young child and was subsequently taken away from her birth family and brought up in care, where she was moved from one foster placement to another and had an ever-changing succession of social workers – until she absconded, apparently without trace. There are so many young people, like the character of Angelica in my book, who can fall through the net of the system and ‘disappear’. Angelica is tough, because she’s had to be. She trusts no one and reluctant to get close to anyone for fear of bringing them trouble.
However, when Lola comes onto the horizon she is a force to be reckoned with – the kind of person who is drawn towards all the lame ducks of the world, wanting to help. At the beginning of their friendship Angelica has nothing and Lola has it all…apparently. But life is not always what it seems. Slowly, as their friendship develops, cracks start to appear in Lola’s hitherto problem-free world. Things are most definitely not always what they seem – who knows what secrets lurk behind closed doors?
Angelica Stone is a book that contains a lot of humour, some captivating characters, a mysterious thread…and a massive twist! According to one Amazon reviewer ‘Both Angelica and Lola became very close to my heart whilst reading and I think they took a little bit of it with them when they left me.’ I hope you will feel the same.

“Everything old was new again” across the June long weekend at Sydney Motorsport Park for the new Sydney Classic Speed Festival. The inaugural event focused on the Golden Era of  racing in the ‘60s and ‘70s, showcasing its fantastic cars and even some of the fabulous drivers!
Spekture couldn’t wait to see this event unfold – staff photographer Blake Curtis was on hand to hear and see these classic cars in action. Saturday’s events were threatened by the heavy rain and wind that had been present in Sydney all week leading up to the event, and whilst the clouds were low and grey, the rain held off to provide a dry track for the drivers and motorsports fans young and young-at-heart to enjoy.
Despite the threat of poor weather, crowd numbers were good, everyone excited to see the best of classic racing cars with a fun 60’s/70’s themed festival atmosphere. No less than eight race categories with a total of more than 13o entries were featured through the weekend’s racing, with new and exciting race formats including scratch, handicap and also split-grid starts providing fiercer competition on the track, and more exhilarating heart-in-your-mouth photo finishes.
One of the headline events was the phenomenal Formula 5000’s. These thundering open-wheelers were faster than the F1 Cars in their day; many being able to go top 300kmh (180pmh)!
A major feature were the Heritage Touring Cars which wowed the crowds at Bathurst from the 70’s through to the early 90’s. Fans were able to see the legendary cars of this era including Commodores, Falcons, Skylines, Sierras and BMWs. Furthermore, the ever-popular Sports and Touring Cars such as Porsche, Mustang, Camaro, Torana and Mini were among the crowd’s favorites. Also well attended at the meet were the historic Formula Fords celebrating their 50th Anniversary of international competition.
Aside from the competition, there was also themed entertainment, Retro and Car Club displays, and Sydney’s newest Concourse event, attracting hundreds of the best display vehicles in Sydney.
Whilst the event brought so many together to share their awesome machines, the racing across the weekend was also competitive. Winners of the races held over Saturday and Sunday included:
Group C and A – Saturday, Tony Alford (1991 Nissan Skyline GTR) and Sunday, Duncan MacKellar (1992 BMW E30 M3)
Formula 5000 – Saturday and Sunday, Tom Tweedie (1973 Chevron B24/28)
Formula Ford – Saturday and Sunday, Cameron Walters (1986 Van Diemen)
Group N – Saturday, Ben Wilkinson (1968 Ford Mustang) and Sunday, Brad Tilley (1964 Ford mustang)
Sports Cars – Saturday, Michal Gibson (Lola) and Sunday, Alan Nolan (197 Nola Chev)
BMW E30’s – Saturday and Sunday, Rob Neal (1983 E30 BMW M3)
Group S – Saturday, Geoff Morgan (1975 Porsche Carrera) and Sunday, Wayne Seabrook (1976 Porsche 911)
Classic motorsport events like these are a great reminder of what modern day racing is built on, and the camaraderie and sportsmanship between competitors, teams and fans was on show for all to see. The owners of these classic cars are to be congratulated for the time effort and funds invested in maintaining these rare and historical machines, and for sharing their passion with the enthusiasts and fans that made the event the success it was. We can’t wait to see the Sydney Classic Speed Festival on next year’s calendar!
