I think people have their favourites and when we put that into context, of course, people will have double standards. It depends on who you follow, I've seen plenty of people not only blaming Louis but also leaving the fandom. Which is fair. Istg I have the exact same message somewhere in my inbox saying exactly the same thing but the opposite about blaming Louis and not blaming Harry. So, this discussion is pointless. Let people have favourites, whatever.

For me, personally, I think both of them look absolutely stupid. They're the same and if I'm going to be brutally honest with you here, I want to punch them and tell them to wake the fuck up because I don't agree with the path both of them are taking on their careers when it comes to stunts. But I'm also VERY AWARE that in the position that I am as a fan, it's kind of unfair to judge that. I don't know shit about them or about their choices or what they went through. And I still think they're great guys and I love their music, so I will keep supporting them even though I don't really agree with some things based on the information we have. It's fine, both things can coexist. And that's what I think this fandom needs right now, stop blaming people and stop oversimplifying things that are extremely complex and layered.

so i see a lot of people talking about how the asoiaf fandom treats it’s female characters today and i figured that i would give my two cents on it (also, it gives me a reason to procrastinate writing my history essay lmao).

first off, read this post by @maesterleia because they explained my exact thoughts better than i ever could.

female characters are treated are with a double standard compared to male character -- which, unfortunately, is very typical in all fandoms but it seems to be taken to the extreme in asoiaf, a book series that does everything possible to make it’s characters as nuanced and shaded grey as possible. and while most of the male characters are analyzed with that in mind, every female character either must be a) a perfect woman that has never done or even think a wrong thing or b) an evil, scheming seductress who’s probably going to end up a worse war criminal than tywin lannister.

forget nuance, forget complexities of the human nature, forget being human -- women are not allowed to be flawed here and if they are, they must be a villain. it’s like @maesterleia wrote in their post “Why is a female character having flaws seen as detrimental? Because this mindset is rooted in the idea that only villainous female characters are allowed to have flaws. Cersei, for example, can be dissected and analyzed critically because she’s on the villainous side of the narrative. She’s complex and sympathetic, but still largely classified as a villain (generally), and therefore, she is--according to this mindset--allowed to be flawed.” 

it’s a ridiculous ideology and the cause of so many stupid and pointless fandom wars. the idea that a hero that happens to be female must be free of any flaws or arcs where they battle with their own morality when male characters like jon snow or robb stark is judged the same way makes no sense to me. 

why isn’t jon judged for the way he called myrcella “insipid” for smiling at robb and being an eight year old girl or how he was classist and insensitive to his other night watch’s recruits in the beginning of agot the same way sansa was mean and insensitive to arya? why isn’t robb talked about descending into madness or dictatorship after he ordered the execution of rickard stark the same way daenerys is talked about after she ordered the execution of the slave masters? why is tywin admired for being ambitious but cersei or margaery or arianne is called a scheming slut for having ambitions too? why isn’t ned shamed for taking a young theon away from his home and culture and forcing him to live as a hostage the same way catelyn is shamed for not being a mother to her husband’s bastard? hell, why is jaime considered to be morally superior than cersei, who yes is a very bad and terrible person, when he tried to kill an eight year old boy and still shows no remorse, why he is the good lannister and worthy of redemption but cersei is not?

the unfair and ridiculous double standard is of no use when it comes to analyzing the female characters and the only thing it does is caused the fandom to pit women against each other. the “sansa vs daenerys” debate or the “arya vs sansa” or the “elia vs lyanna” debate, all discussion full of misogyny -- deciding which character is better by saying who hasn’t done any wrong things (all of them have done some not-so-great things and all of have them done even more great things, give it a break guys) or who’s better by who’s more feminine or who’s less feminine (ridiculous AND sexist, especially considering it’s possible to be both feminine and masculine and not just one or the other). This also goes hand in hand with the idea that there is only allowed to be One female character that can be the hero in the series and all the others must be either be their enemy or something to prop them up -- all while most of the fandom can find it in themselves to have multiple complex male characters in their heart.

the whole ideology that male characters can have flaws and make mistake and still be considered capable of redemption, or capable of learning, or still a good person while such ideas can’t be afforded to female characters is fucking toxic and a great way to make a fandom unbearable to be in.

The calamnai ritual blurs the line of SA. And it's just disgusting and icky. I have no idea why that was even included in the book probably because SA makes Sarah horny when there are so many more beautiful festivals marking the start of spring in so many different cultures but no Sarah Janet wanted a literal mass orgy.

It's so funny that when the magic chooses the female, tamlin is still blamed for letting Lucien take Ianthee into that cave. And it's SA when Lucien had to sleep with someone incapacitated but not when Tamlin has done the exact same thing for literal centuries.

Tamlin is the bad guy because he didn't save feyre from the darkness that was consuming her but feyre is completely justified in not reaching out to tamlin because she herself was traumatized. When...tamlin was equally traumatized...?I think someone said, that they loved that feyre doesn't stay to save tamlin... My dear... My child... Supporting someone through PTSD isn't 'fixing' or 'saving' them. It's the least you can do for your partner. It's so confusing that they all want Tamlin's head on a spike because he didn't 'save' feyre from her darkness and want to bend over for rhyise because he did... I mean make up your damn mind!... If feyre isn't responsible for trying to talk to tamlin about his nightmares and ask why he spent most nights in his beast form because she was traumatized than how in god's name is tamlin the bad guy for not holding feyre's hair back while she threw up????

Thank you! I’m glad I’m not alone in this. People have said it before and I’ll say it again, if Hiyoko was Kokichi, everyone would adore and celebrate everything she did including bullying Mikan. Cos let’s face it, Kokichi’s actions against Miu and Kiibo and others are like… ten times more ruthless and demeaning. So let’s just call it what it is: sexism and double standards.

I saw another defense for Fuyuhiko being basically “Yeah but he’s a Yakuza and Sato killed his sister and Mahiru covered it up. Lol Shoulda seen it coming.” Like… dude! That makes Fuyuhiko a bad person who really needed to change! And he did. Let me be clear, I adore Fuyuhiko and his arc. The second trial in the second game is one of my all time favorites. But lets not pretend that he wasn’t FAR more horrid than Hiyoko ever was. His actions resulted in Mahiru’s, Sato’s, and Peko’s deaths. He antagonized his classmates and threatened them constantly, to the point that even Kazuichi had tried standing up to him. He even threatened to send Mikan to a whorehouse. Yeah he doesn’t mean it, but it’s got a lot more weight than Hiyoko just making her little jabs.

I keep seeing so many people saying that Fuyuhiko had this amazing redemption arc (he did) and that Hiyoko never changed. And that’s such a shallow position in my opinion. Fuyuhiko IS the one who need to drastically change. Hiyoko is a selfish brat who needed to change but was nowhere near the same ballpark as him. Also Fuyuhiko had support. He had a sister who genuinely loved him as well as Peko who he routinely pushed away instead of being honest about his feelings. Hiyoko was just starting to open her mind and heart after forming a friendship with Mahiru and others. Beforehand, her life was being exploited by a traditionalist family who took her away from her only supportive family member (her father). These two paths are not one and the same. And therefore, their paths of change should not be considered the same.

I really, really, really think this fandom needs to see Fuyuhiko’s ending of expressing himself and atoning for what he did is just as valid as Hiyoko rejoining her friends and finally accepting Mikan as her friend and becoming more sincere/protective of what she cares about. Still waiting for it.

1) Double Standards

Jesus Fucking Christ, both of the characters did the same thing and yet you call the other worse for that thing. Both characters did the same thing and yet you call the other better for doing the same thing. Stop it. I am so incredibly annoyed.

2) The Polarization

This isn't a C!Dream apologist vs C!Sam apologist, nor is it a C!Tubbo apologist vs C!Techno apologist. Not everything has to be a war all the time. Calm tf down. You can be an apologist for many characters even if they are enemies in the lore.

3) Black and White Mentality/Morality

Some of you genuinely do not fucking know what morally gray means. ALL of the characters are morally gray. They do good shit, they do bad shit. They believe in good shit, believe in bad shit. Why are y'all treating morally gray as if it meant "good" or something? Some shades are lighter than others, sure, but bro. Come on. Morally gray is morally gray. I can't with y'all.

Not only that but when someone critiques your fave, you immediately jump to thinking they're calling that character evil. Like, bitch, no. This fandom will be the death of me istg.

4) No Proper Fandom Etiquette

JESUS CHRIST JUST VAGUEPOST INSTEAD OF REBLOGGING IT'S NOT THAT HARD. If you're on twt then subtweet instead of qrting them. Stop going into people's askboxes/curiouscats/dms and say stuff you know they won't appreciate.

I won't even get started how some of y'all treat c!dream introjects like shit. Hating a character? Absolutely fine. Calling a REAL PERSON horrible things and sending them borderline death threats? Not fine. Not fine at all.

5) The superiority complex of some of y'all mfs

even spicier take: literally every ship, including creek, can be interpreted in a non-problematic way. (except for the parents, holyshit the parents are awful) Considering the characters ages, a lot of the shitty stuff they do can pretty easily be handwaved away as “I WAS NINE!” and not to mention, even some of the aspects that are deffiiinitely problematic can be considered positively in the eye of the beholder because shockingly different people are attracted to different things. but it really gets my goat when someone lampoons on ship for a specific reason and then COMPLETELY ignores that the ship they used as an example of a ‘good ship’ ALSO incorporated that specific reason into their relationship.

(ie: its just unhealthy how stan and wendy dont treat each other like real people and dont listen to each others problems. oh but craig ignoring tweek was totally kawaii uwu and the way they presumed the worst of the other and publically shamed one another is totally adorable!) <--both accusations are canon but fucking... dont pretend creek aint problematic. its no better or worse than any other super problematic ship in this fucking show

this is about the fandom but since i’ve been seeing it for last two days due the recent events i think some of you so far reach to defend one remake by attacking another one. like the claim that fandom excused problematic behaviour from julie or fr, ita and druck. don’t know if people haven’t been that deep in the fandom but i honestly saw more criticism toward those than people defending them aksdjd so like? i feel like this is trying to pass as some kind of double standard when it really isn’t. ofc there are ppl who seem to ignore everything problematic but there is fair amount of opposite opinion from those who think critically. also characters doing/saying problematic shit isn’t same as cast doing it. i meaan i don’t go there but peps were ready to start witch hunt every time maxence spoke so. it’s very easy to be hateful and find flaws in something you had negative bias from the start. also this is turning more into fandoms being deliberately hurtful toward each other but go off ig what do i know
