Harvey's full feature and photoshoot with Robert Ascroft for IRK Magazine has been published, including a fantastic interview ranging from fashion to Shadows to 'letting in' and wishes come true. Some excerpts below:
On Letting In and identity as a home:
Remember that there's no ticking time bomb. Especially with what's been happening lately where a lot of actors who are portraying certain characters and their sexuality might be questioned, and they are outed, or they are forced to come out before, um, they are comfortable doing so. Everyone's sexuality, actors, everyone included, is their business. It's no one's business. It's their business. For people to want to know or to negate us, why don't you tell us? Why are you not telling us? Why are you hiding it? Why can't you just tell us? Tell us right now.
Forcing someone to come out... And I hate that term, too, COMING OUT. Because we know what we are, it's not the first thing they woke up that day and realized, oh, my gosh, I'm gonna tell everyone today. Everyone who knows that they are gay or that they are queer has been thinking about it. Believe me, it has been on their mind. They have thought about it. They have talked about it to themselves in the mirror. It is not new to them. And so for the idea for someone to come out is always kind of, kind of, uh, a little upsetting to me. I don't think it should be coming out. It should be called LETTING YOU IN. Because I already know who I am at that point when I share this information. They already know who they are when they share this information with you. Coming out is never really for the person. It's for the people who are surrounding them. Coming out is always for the person who wants to know. [...]
Coming out is always for the parent who is questioning you and just wants to have peace of mind. Coming out was for you to feel that you are still loved in this phase of your life or this new revelation. And it should not be called coming out. It should be called letting you in. And what you do with that information is up to the par- eh, the person who just discovered. That they let you in, and what you do once... It's like welcoming someone to someone's home: please don't destroy my home. I opened the door, and I stepped right, and you stepped right in. And it's up to the person who's my guest to either wipe their shoes, be cautious of the frames, or be careful of the furniture. Please don't, you know, jump around and destroy the home I had made. It's usually... What happens is you may let people into your homes that they trusted, and it turns out these people have no respect for your home, and they make a mess out of it.
[...] I knew that I was different and that people knew I was different. But also, as a child, that makes you go back in. It goes back into your home, closing that door and looking out the window. Cautiously, I look through the curtain, ensuring no one notices the vibrant colors inside. And no one's seeing that you put up wallpaper and that you're considering changing the tapestry, but always looking out the window. Cautiously looking out the window, ensuring no one's ever too close to the door. Eventually, you get comfortable enough to open that door and let people in.
On the evolution of Guillermo's fashion:
I do fall into the character when I am dressed for the part of Guillermo. Our fantastic costume designer, Laura Montgomery, who won the Emmy for our show's costume design, is incredible at her job. We sit down and talk about the season's arc and where we want this character to go. Guillermo wears these 1980s oversized sweaters that you can find at a thrift store. But the character is obviously more layered than that. The detail in the costume is so specific. Have you noticed his outfits from season one, where his collared shirt is buttoned up to the top, and then he puts a sweater over, and it's a long sleeve? [...]
He started off not showing any skin. Dressed a little bit frumpy and a little bit oversized on him. He wears khaki pants or brown pants and comfortable shoes. He does his hair to a specific look that he's trying to emulate because he thinks that's what a person of his position should look like. It's always what he thinks people expect from him. And it's not until he finds his own inner self of who he really is, so the essence of who Guillermo is, where he finds out that Van Helsing blood runs through his veins, that he starts getting a little comfortable in his skin, and we start seeing a little more of a fitted look. We see him with the fitted blue vest when he finds that out. He wears a thin, pinstriped white shirt that he unbuttons the top, so the collars are a little looser. He rolls up the sleeves, but he wears some brown gloves for grip to get those wooden stakes quickly.
So all those things are thought out, even the tucking in of the green cargo pants into his boots to make it easier and not to get tangled in anything in a quick escape. That trench coat that flares out so beautifully, we talked to Laura about that, that he needs to feel that he could easily take several weapons out of there without anyone questioning it because you never see it. The coat flares out with an excellent movement to it. You'll see it in the "The Night Market" episode where he fights other familiars. His coat is beautifully flared out, making him such a badass. Then, when he finally takes that off, he's a badass himself. That look was more fitted to my body, making the character look more fit and in shape. In some ways, whatever size you are, fitted clothes always look better on everyone. [...]
In season four, we see Guillermo be the best man to Nandor and help him choose wives that come back to life as the right wife for him to marry and stick to her. And after doing that and being the best man at his wedding, he wears a different outfit than we usually see him. He wears, like, this cream turtleneck with a moss green tailored suit, uh, that's really nice and compliments my skin tone. And that was Laura and I talking and looking at sketches and the materials and what's soft on Guillermo and what would be another, wink of wow, he has a little bit of fashion sense there. It's just that he's never felt comfortable in his own skin.
Sometimes, I think people are too scared and timid to risk wearing something that they might say, "I liked wearing that." But they don't take the risk, and so they're like, "Nah, that's fine. I'll just stick to the norm everyone knows me to wear." It's great for people to experiment with fashion.
On fashion, accessibility, and taking risks:
[...] I mean, for so long, you know, people always ask me, "Who's your stylist?" Or "Who dresses you?" For the longest time, for a majority of events and stuff, I dress myself. Uh, because for a long time, nobody wanted to, or not that they didn't want to. I feel they didn't know where to start to dress a person of size. Designers carry sample sizes.
For people of size, it's easy to feel that fashion is not for them, but that's not true, fashion is for everyone. It should be made and accessible to everyone. Especially when you look at the body and shape and sizes of most people worldwide, specifically in America, it makes sense to be represented in Fashion Week. And when it's not, it's a little upsetting because it's like they're no different than someone who is a size zero, size four, size... It doesn't matter. They're the same. You know, the same money. The same person who likes fashion could be of any size. [...]
I don't think anyone's gonna be on their deathbed saying, "You know what I wish? I wish I would have taken less risk in this life." Said no one ever. You know (laughs)?
I'd instead look back and say, "Oh, my gosh. Do you believe I wore that?" You know what? Yeah, I do. Sometimes, we're amazed at the things that have happened in fashion. It becomes part of history. And so when you look at stuff, it's not the embarrassment of a fashion faux pas that maybe you have done. But for the most part, you were in a time, and it was captured. That is everything down from your hair to your shoes, outfit, or even makeup if you're wearing makeup. It was like a time capsule, and it was captured in that moment. And so if you don't take a risk, you're not living in the moment. You're trying to fit into a time that has already passed or is already lived by someone else. So why not live in the moment so it's captured as a capsule for yourself and a moment in time.
On channeling his success into charity:
[...] In high school, I was looking for all these grants and scholarships for low-income Latino students in the arts and whatnot. I've been creating something where we can be of help to lower-income communities with kids who have an interest in the arts. Because that's the first thing we know: when budgets get cut in schools, especially in public schools, the first thing that gets cut is the art (not sports) but the arts. These kids have no other outlets. So there needs to be an outlet then how is there a possibility for a career or a life in the entertainment industry. Even if it's, you know, the first-ever scholarship, or like the Harvey Guillén-like scholarship, for young up-and-coming artists. Something that would help because I know that going through college was such a burden of thinking, "I don't have a trust fund.

My take on Blank The Series:
Age Gaps, GL, and Trauma
To make a slow-burn romance interesting to watch, especially with age gaps, regarding WLW relationships, we need many elements.
First, we need a decent cast pair. Second, we need believable performances from the actors who play these complex emotional characters. Third, we need drama. We need a reason behind each action and dialogue exchange between the characters. This is where the story becomes important. We have the characters' story and the plot of the major stuff going down. The back story of the two main characters is the most important to flesh out more than the side or supporting characters.
I'm just going to say it: I'm impressed by the performance of the two actresses who gave life to these characters.
Lately, I've had several coronaries because Thai GL has turned me into a Junkie for their content more than my own countries' versions of sapphic relationships. And they are making age-gap relationships so much more compelling to watch.
The premise is as basic as it comes in terms of story arcs. Actually, I agree with some people that "Blank" and "Gap the Series" were gender-swapped stories. Usually, a wealthy older man falls in love with a young girl. So, now we have an older prominent woman falling in love with the young girl instead, but they made it more tender and somewhat light-hearted. I understand this is an adaptation of a naughty novel, which is fantastic. I write naughty, too. But the series is more tasteful. It focuses more on the crucial aspects versus the naughty.
By the way, I enjoyed the playfulness in both the shows. It's nice to have playful flirting involved versus extreme seduction right out of the gate. Both shows remind me how a romantic relationship or even pursuing a special someone can have a silly, playful approach. It doesn't have to always be serious and get to the sexy stuff. As an older Lesbian, I have a similar playful nature when I'm allowed to express it. Thus, I feel for the older characters willing to become playful with their much younger romantic partners.
However, there's one thing I can relate to since I'm in my late 30s. Is the extreme insecurity of being romantically involved with someone younger than you? In Blank the Series, the age gap difference is 16 years. I'm glad they raised the age bar because it would've caused a lot of issues.
It's funny because I was the girl in my early 20s who hooked up and dated older women in their 30s. The age gap was not 16, but 13 years between me and the older women I had short-term relationships with. So, watching the interaction between Khun Nueng and Anueng, oh my gosh, right way, I thought Khun Nueng was in trouble in so many ways.
Now that my position in life has switched and I'm a similar age to the women I used to date, I understand the complexities they went through. You just only know once you experience it for yourself. Insecurities around age are an enormous factor in reality and in this story. More than the woman loving women aspect or even the drama of others accepting the relationship. Really, the destruction comes from the older woman who can't deal with falling in love with someone younger than them. When you sprinkle trauma on top, with a side of keeping a facade or reputation, it can get chaotic super fast.
Not only did Khun Nueng become attracted to Anueng quickly, but she couldn't resist turning Anueng away, no matter what. The actress performed those rigid responses really well because, in reality, I would have to visit a chiropractor to break my body. The tension alone of repressing my desires would turn me into a ball of knots. Especially if I had no willpower to turn away the person. Ugh... I don't even wanna think about that. Because knowing my karma, something would put me in that position in life. I even resist dating any women in their early 30s. In the late 20s, I will say to the sky, "F***...Why me?" I'm like that anyway each time I fall for a woman. "Oh, f***...Why me?"
I have to sprinkle some satire on this topic because I can already see that the root of every decision and action Khun Nueng makes is based on that insecurity. Internally, she doesn't want to believe Anueng when she constantly says she only wants to be with her and loves her. It doesn't matter how often it's said; it is something that Khun Nueng must overcome regarding age-gap insecurities.
In the ending scene of episode 6, I reacted, "You totally just wanna keep piling on the torment, don't yah?" It's clear throughout the six episodes that she's in love with the girl. She can't even admit that she gets jealous. And oh my gosh, older adults' actions regarding jealousy are more diabolical than younger people. Actually, the older you get, the more sinister it gets. The passive aggressiveness turns up. Believe me... The sky is the limit on tactfulness and mind-f***ing when women get vengeful. Oh, my gosh... I still love women, regardless. LOL! Sweet as poison.
Khun Nueng's stoic demeanor is just a mask. She represses her emotions and vulnerability. Khun Nueng abides by stoicism, which rarely benefits emotional growth. We witness this when she refrains from showing anyone her weakness, so she doesn't cry in front of people, even at her grandmother's wake. When she finally ends up alone and breaks down, Anueng shows up, and Khun Nueng feels safe enough to break down in front of her. Which is hard to do that. I also have a stoic facade, so I recognize that bullshit a mile away, and I know exactly how hard it is to repress grief. Once it erupts, it hurts like hell, but I knew Khun Nueng was fully F*** because there's really no turning back with that kind of intimate exchange they had.
I can't wait for season 2 to see how that bites her in the behind.
Obviously, I don't want Khun Nueng to suffer anymore, but through her mistakes and emotional and mental anguish, she will learn what or who is truly important to her because she's dumb. Just because we are in our 30s or late 30s doesn't mean we are free from stupidity. She definitely needs to make better choices and stop playing so many mind games to protect her ego. She needs to learn to be more upfront about her feelings and wants.
Hopefully, we get that.
I have faith they will.

Gosh thinking about this, sometimes i wonder just how many characters the Erins missed out on making black and white. What i mean is, not all characters have to be kind to their family deep down while still rude to the outside. Not all need to regret their choices or be influenced by some deep tragedy. Maybe, just maybe, some characters would genuinely take dominance and ambition over family. Maybe some characters would actually take adventage of any people they have extended their olive branch to. Leopardstar could be written as somebody who KNOWS she has done wrong, WANTS to change, but never does. Because that's how she is, and there is NO redemption in the end.
A beautifully tragic character, who never changes, is written as being weighed down by their mistakes but choosing to carry them all their life. Because changing their attitude would mean the end of the world for them.
Blackstar, i'm also looking at you here. And you, Clear Sky.
Any characters you think should also be like this?
Clear Sky is the biggest one. So many of DOTC's problems would just not exist if it wasn't building towards its utter failure of a redemption arc. He's a fantastic villain, a complete bastard, and it makes a much better story if Gray Wing's story is supposed to be realizing that he is enabling a tyrant.
But him aside... surprisingly, Thornclaw. He was a Dark Forest trainee. They keep using him as a low-stakes antagonist. He's always had motive as one of the more "traditionalist" members of ThunderClan. Thornclaw makes a great villain... but they won't let the fan favorite 1st arc patrol guy be the bad boy he could be.
All of the Dark Forest Trainee survivors, really! Damn shame that so many of them died!! I'll argue that MOST of them should have survived, and more of them should have been Breezepelts who fought to the end.
I feel similarly about every cat who's ever really been an antagonist, because they have a weird problem about just... never addressing the horrible actions of smaller characters. Crowfeather looks at Breezepelt nicely and suddenly he's fixed. Blossomfall never confronts her hatred towards her mom and sister. Bumblestripe was just a major supportive antagonist in TBC and we're not talking about that in ASC.
And like... I LOVE redemption arcs. Don't misunderstand me. I would be satisfied if all of those last three HAD redemption arcs. But like... we didn't. Breezepelt hits me particularly hard honestly. I hate the fact that Crowfeather abused him but then was able to have a mild epiphany and suddenly poof! All Breeze's own agency in his choices is gone. My shitty dad's sort-of apology filled me with redemption.
Bleh. More Clanborn villains, basically. Less Evil Foreigners who come out of nowhere.

Loki Season 2, Episode One
OH MY GOSH!!
SO much about this episode was fantastic!!
First of all, I’ll reiterate that Loki being in the TVA, with B-15 and Mobius and Casey (and Sylvie) is SO good for him. He gets to be a hero without constantly being compared to Thor, and THAT is what he’s needed. Thor loves him, but in Asgard, Loki couldn’t thrive. This is his proper hero arc.
Oby (Obee? Orby?) is my favorite person ever, he deserves everything, hold him pls. Mobius and Loki’s friendship is adorable and funny and so healthy. Loki looks fantastic in very single shot, by the way, and even if I hate seeing him in pain, he just looks so good doing it. And I love the rolled up sleeves! I WANT HIM
SYLVIE!! SYLKI!! Sylkis might feel like we didn’t get much in this ep, but it’s only episode 1! There was a lot of catching up to do, and a lot of plot threads to start unraveling. But he clearly misses her and wants to find her.
Tom Hiddleston, along with the whole cast, does a phenomenal job, even with the complexities of the time travel plots. And I LOVE Sylvie looking at everyone in the McDonald’s, so sure and so proud of her choice! And B-15 being proud too!!
Best part of the episode though? Mobius writing “Skin?” In the dust. Peak character behavior mobius never change mwah

Watching the Percy Jackson show as an adult who started reading the series when they were 12 is such a crazy experience. The show is doing such a good job at bringing what we loved about the series to screen and you can tell it was made with so much love and care. Below are just a few thoughts I had while watching the first 4 episodes.
Love the casting and having everyone played by actors who are actually the age the characters are! They are doing such a fantastic job and really capture the energy of everyone.
Walker as Percy is such good casting! He has all of Percy’s sass and heart.
Also can so see the Ryan Reynolds influence. Like watching him on screen is like watching mini Ryan Reynolds’s - which also gives Percy energy.
I know they are played by actors the age of the character but oh my gosh Annabeth is so little!! Like she’s gone through so much and I just want to wrap her in a hug and give her the unconditional love she deserves! (But I know she would stab me if I did that and rightfully so). But AAAHHH - just every time she on screen I’m just like it’s a baby ☺️
WAS SALLY LIKE 18 WHEN SHE HAD PERCY??? SHE’S SO YOUNG???
GROVER’S SONG 😂👍
The bully that Percy “pushed” into the fountain is exactly how I pictured Clarisse when reading the books.
Speaking of Clarisse, love her portrayal and I can't wait for that redemption arc!
Ok so no one is saying it but I am brave enough too. Sally Jackson?? HOT 🥵
Also not to be gay but Ms Dot’s monster form? Also hot
THE CAMP IS ACTUALLY HOW I PICTURED IT DOWN TO THE STRAWBERRY FIELD - LOVE IT SO MUCH
I keep forgetting there are people who haven’t read the book and their reaction to Luke is giving me whiplash.
WE STAN PERCY “MAMMA'S BOY” JACKSON GIVING TRIBUTE TO HIS MOTHER
Montauk 🥹
OK BEST VERSION OF MEDUSA - LOVE THE HAT COVERING HER EYES AND THIS OUTFIT THAT IS 1950’s INSPIRED BUT WHITE FABIC THAT IS REMINISCENT OF GREEK ROBES (also, hot)
“You drool in your sleep” 🥹

my thoughts on ep 1 and 2 of the live action ATLA series!
Tumblr media
So it is absolutely GORGEOUS. like the visuals??? the costumes?? THE VFX??? OUTSTANDING. CHEF'S KISS. INCREDIBLE. the worst thing is Zuko's scar and like ok whatever nothing we can do about that.
Episode one was fantastic we actually see a lot of great additions, which is COOL! like more of Monk Gyatso, and the actual attack on the Air Nomads... 😭
I'd say writing wise it's not as great as I want it to be. A touch too many monologues for my taste, especially in the first episode, but nothing too bad. Could've been better, but definitely DEFINITELY could've been worse *eyes the movie that will not be named*
You can tell they're trying to squish important plot points together instead of spacing it out across more episodes I mean especially since Netflix decided everything has to be EIGHT EPISODES. but the pacing is actually good considering that LOL
but oh the EMOTIONS. THE EMOTIONS?!?!!
Tumblr media
the actor of Aang oh my gosh, Gordon Cormier, OMG. DUDE I NEARLY BAWLED MULTIPLE TIMES BASED ON HIS PERFORMANCE ALONE. IT WAS ABSOLUTELY HEARTBREAKING 😭 HE'S SO GOOD 😭 and he's so cute too he's so baby I'm wjrhwhrhwhdhwhdhwh
I love the actors of Sokka and Zuko whdhwhdhshdsjjdhsjd. Ian Ousley and Dallas Liu? DID NOT DISAPPOINT.
Tumblr media
SOKKA WAS HILARIOUS we BURST out laughing SO MANY TIMES, he was so GOOD 😭 the jokes he cracked were genuinely funny wwhdhwhgd and the SARCASM especially. and HIS ACTING THE ACTING HE NAILED IT?? It was so natural and THE EXPRESSIONS HE'D MAKE AND JUST. ALL HIS ACTING CHOICES IN GENERAL WERE SO GOOD. HE WAS HILARIOUS. and other than the funny parts in general he was just so good! HE GETS IT. HE IS SOKKA.
Tumblr media
and Zuko was so good too like, we haven't gotten to all the juicy angst yet so I can't fully judge, but so far he's done SO well. Like especially the moments he'd get really angry and also HE'S SO GOOD AT MARTIAL ARTS. SO.
BUT HE'S ALSO RLLY FUNNY TOO??? especially when he gets annoyed with Uncle Iroh LIKE THE BODY LANGUAGE WAS SO SUBTLE BUT IT WAS HILARIOUS. and YES UNCLE IROH WAS GREAT TOO, I LOVE HIM SO FAR. HE IS ALSO HILARIOUS and does seem like Uncle Iroh to me so far!!
Tumblr media
Katara hasn't had much to do yet and much like. acting stuff or much to do with her character yet but like that's okay, I'm pretty confident they're still building it up. They haven't gotten to the JUICY bits yet. But she was already so good too.
I'm really interested in some changes, like how they focus more on the Avatar State as a plot point? It's interesting LOL. There was also a shot that showed that in this universe, Katara actually saw her mom die?!?? like omg, that's so gruesome I'm crying.
and it's true that they cut out the sexism arc of Sokka 😭 BUT BUT BUT. IAN OUSLEY. OH HE GETS IT. Like you can see he's really doing his best to keep it a part of the story, like in his acting choices, he's still trying to include the more sexist aspect of his character even if the script isn't supporting it. Like he really truly did his best with what he had and he nailed it, it's the script's fault
And I will say I'm not crazy about some of the stuff they added to Suki? like, I wasn't crazy about the whole "thank you for bringing the world to me" thing, but it's just okay LOL. She's frickin GORGEOUS tho
(also I was really hoping we'd get the scene of Sokka wearing the Kyoshi warrior outfit and makeup but sadly they didn't put it in but it's okay)
OH BUT THE CRUMBS. THE SOKKA AND SUKI CRUMBS. OH THEY'RE SO CUTE. ESPECIALLY THE SCENE IN THE DOJO WHERE SHE'S TEACHING HIM?? OH IT WAS SO CUTE. I LOVE THEM SO MUCH. you can tell they're doubling down a bit more on their romance, especially since we know it's already gonna be endgame, but it's making me wonder how they'll tackle Yue 🤔
but yeah. Sokka and Suki stinking adorable I was SQUEALING MULTIPLE TIMES, I LOVE IT I LOVE IT
and the BENDING. THE BENDING IS KRIFFING GORGEOUS. IT'S SO GOOD. THE STUNTS?? THE MARTIAL ARTS?? BEAUTIFUL!! MAGNIFICENT!! PERFECTION!! and the VFX?? HECK YES. AUGH!! I'm definitely not disappointed about it. And I love how dangerous the bending legitimately feels?? like it feels so LETHAL. And there were some really shocking bending moments that were done incredibly well. I loved it.
so YEAH. IN CONCLUSION. so far, judging from just the FIRST TWO episodes... I rate it a 7.5/10
The writing is maybe a 6.5/10, but the acting for sure a solid 9/10. DEFINITELY worth the watch imo, BUT so much more enjoyable with an open mind and acceptance that it's not supposed to be a carbon copy of the show.

so i let the hyperfixation win.
over the past several hours i rewatched Sword Art Online and SAO 2.
(this time dubbed, last time i watched it subbed)
here are my thoughts:
-anyone who said the dub was bad is just wrong. Kirito's VA really shines in the more comedic or sweet moments (like when first meeting Yui), he reminds me of like a Peter Parker. and oh my lord, the breakdown by Suguha's VA was just a masterpiece. Still have chills from watching it.
-i have such a big appreciation for every character. This time it really shined through how good of characters Kirito, Asuna, and Suguha actually are.
Kirito's internal conflict throughout SAO2 is so good, grappling with their actions they needed to take in SAO to survive. and throughout all of it you can tell how much they truly loves their friends and family, and how kind hearted they really are. Asuna definitely fits into that role as well, being so ready to take care of Yui and so desperately wanting her to be safe and loved and cared for.
And oh my gosh Suguha. I remember people absolutely hated her arc because it is problematic, but the fact is, it's played entirely serious, her feelings arent taken as a joke. She has a genuine and real internal struggle for feeling things she feels she shouldnt, and how she feels those feelings arent reciprocated or cant be reciprocated, and having her heart broken twice by someone who she loves and someone who also does still genuinely love her. Its absolutely heartbreaking to watch.
Man, Sinon is still fantastic. She's still my absolute favorite, and I think she is one of the best characters in the show, and pretty much steals the show from her introduction. Her arc ties in so seamlessly with Kirito's and how they help eachother heal and grow is fantastic. Only complaint is we never got a scene of the rest of the Gals being jealous about the grenade hug she gave Kirito. After Kirito and Sinon nearly died, wouldve been some nice relief so you didnt feel like you yourself were dying.
-Speaking of, while there was definitely a ton of fanservice, the pseudo-harem aspect with the jokes were kinda cute, between characters seeing flirting happen around them, getting embarassed over it, its fun. Especially when people got jealous of Sinon flirting with Kirito over Excalibur. That part was very fun, since they did that infront of everyone else, almost like they were trying to get a rise out of them. Theyre not exactly the pinnacle of comedy, its definitely a trope, but theres something nostalgic about it that makes it kinda enjoyable.
-Speaking of the psuedo-harem, guys if all of you are constantly flirting with eachother (not just Kirito surprisingly, happens between the other girls frequently) and jealous of any affection with that, just start a polycule. You're a group of gamer girls playing MMOs together and all of you have slept in the same bed with eachother. Stop snipping at eachother and start dating eachother. Polyamory is pretty cool. Kirito and Asuna can still be the main duo and be the parents to Yui and Strea; but yall gotta work on the jealousy or just do what every other group of girl gamers does, polyamory. Lisbeth you should not be angrily drinking while watching Kirito and Asuna talk. (this is mostly a joke, im not actually saying they *have* to do a polycule, its more of a joke because of how tropey a lot of the flirting and jealousy is, and yknow, gay girls do polyamory, so dont take this part toooooo seriously.)
-Speaking of girls dating girls, the LGBT rep aint half bad. Argo canonically using both male and female pronouns is really cool! Most of the girls flirt with eachother a lot too, which is nice. Between the female avatar, the willingness to pretend to be a girl, the introversion, the desire to be an avatar in a virtual world more than irl, Kirito might be transgender. All good stuff here.
Overall, SAO is honestly way better than I remembered, even if some parts definitely show its age. You gotta piece it together a little bit with headcanons, but i do that with every show, nothing is perfect. Except Sinon. And a world where trans Kirito is canon. Those are perfect.

Hi, I know we have quite different oppinions on some SE related things, but thats why I wanted to ask:
I actually really liked the manga Baba Yaga arc. Is your oppinion on it positve too or do you actually think its not as good or atleast weaker than the folowing arcs?
I'm curious on people's oppinions and finding out where the difference of perspectives originate
(Also think the Baba Yaga arc had a very strong SoMa moment with the whole puppet chapter resolution and Maka giving Soul and outstretched hand is an iconic panel to me)
I don't think the manga had a single "weak" arc. The more I pick things apart, the more I'm seeing what masterful storycrafting took place in Soul Eater, which is surely part of why it has such a strong fanbase to this day.
The Baba Yaga arc was fantastic!!! I have not read the manga since January, but I'll try to bullet point some of the key things that make it great.
And I'll preface this all by saying... The manga is divided into two halves, essentially (we know that), and at the end of each half...our main characters reach milestones in their stories and their character development. So it's like...they've all been hopping across stepping stones to reach the other side of the pond, and here they all arrive. And get ready to brave the waves of the next half of the story.
Also, I'm writing this in a way that assumes the reader has read and is intimately familiar with the manga. So I'm not going into detail about things. But anyway...
MAJOR spoilers for Soul Eater manga, if that matters to anyone.
The secondary trio. We get to see ALL of the kids in this arc, and time is spent with each of them; it's not JUST the main meister trio and their weapons, but it's also the secondary trio, and we finally get to know them more deeply as characters! And good heavens is that development ever GOOD! I won't detail it so folks can read it for themselves, but my GOSH was that ever phenomenal!
Minor characters. Eruka, Free, even Giriko, and Mosquito get their moments. And they're not just there to be on the page, they serve an actual purpose. And I felt that Mosquito here became more a genuine threat, less an annoying pest (lol, mosquito). We also get the unexpected introduction of a new enemy in Noah, which was a fabulous twist.
The first major seeds of doubt are sown here with the DWMA's decision making; perhaps they are not the great and wise leaders we've been led to believe? Because going along with Medusa's plan was clearly, clearly unwise. We have this sense the whole time that the effort is doomed simply by nature of...we know the decision was unwise. And with the little hints prior, and with what ultimately comes later regarding the DWMA and their place in the world...it was a fantastic stepping stone along that piece of the plot.
Medusa. The tension of her presence, of her supposedly being their ally. The clear and obvious lie she tells to Maka to gain her cooperation. Her true motives slowly but surely unfolding, and what ultimately happens with her in the end of the arc. It was a brilliant, brilliant play, completely inline with the manipulative character we know and love/hate, and an added level of threat throughout the arc since the point is to stop Arachne. And then to have the true plan revealed in the end... Sheer brilliance.
Black Star and Tsubaki vs Mifune. Another perfect stepping stone in the plot of Black Star's character development, from who he was at the beginning to who he ends up being in the very final chapter of the manga. Tense, powerful, bittersweet... Black Star is arriving here at who he needs to be to truly complete his goal. We see the growth in his words, his actions, and it becomes so important going forward.
Maka and Soul, and the battle against Arachne. Here we get back to the purpose... How was Soul Eater the series introduced? You defeat 99 evil souls and then the soul of a witch. So, we have arrived at last. A battle against a witch. And the themes of trust that were set up in that very first chapter get to shine here with Maka and Soul's growth as a meister/weapon pair. And oh ho HO that payoff... With yet another twist following... Fantastic storytelling!
Kid's sacrifice. Unexpected, heart-pounding, and yet again... A culmination of his growth. Throughout the arc... In his wise decision-making, his battle tactics, and then ultimately his sacrifice... He is stepping out of the...youthful and surface-level obsessiveness that is ultimately part of what is going to make him a great Shinigami someday, and stepping into the beginnings of maturing into that role. No more worrying about the height of picture frames. Only protecting the world, and protecting the ones he loves. It is a powerful, powerful moment in his development.
As I said in the beginning... This is an arrival, for each character. An arrival, and then they get to take a breath before the ultimate battle. Everything about this arc was phenomenal. Each and every character given their due; the pacing; the story itself with all of its frights, twists, and payoffs, and the way it makes the reader think. Truly, truly outstanding!
I know this was a very vague summary and assumes intimate knowledge of the manga, but my gosh... Truly a fabulous arc and I want to go read it again right now.

Reverse unpopular opinion on Moffat Who?
Oh, gosh. I've been undergoing an internal Moffat Who renaissance lately--I haven't watched any, but it's been coming to mind so often, and it's really driving home just how formative those stories were to me--so I'm not sure I'll be able to arrange my thoughts coherently, but I'll try for a few bullet points.
There is so much writing skill on display in his episodes. The plots are so tight--set-up and payoff on a detailed level that you rarely see in television. The word-smithing is wonderful--he has a gift for a turn of phrase that sticks in your head, can make something poetic or pithy or just plain hilarious. The way he can grapple with big ideas and themes and still make a small, concrete story with characters you care about is just wonderful.
The style! His stuff has such a specific voice to it--certain rhythms to the dialogue, certain themes he returns to, certain things he thinks are funny. It's most obvious in the RTD era--when you hit a Moffat episode, everyone suddenly talks twice as fast. Some people might see such a distinctive style as a detriment, but in an entertainment landscape where everything can get sanded down into bland homogeny, it's refreshing to see work that is so personal and specific.
I love how his era understand that Doctor Who is a fairy tale. The fantastical entering into the ordinary. But the fantastical isn't there to save us from the boring drudgery of everyday life, but to make us appreciate just how wonderful the world--especially ordinary life--can be.
That fairy tale focus also makes his era the most explicitly Catholic of any era of Who. It understands a sacramental worldview where the ordinary and the extraordinary intertwine.
I've got major problems with how he can handle romance and sexual stuff, but when it comes to marriage, there is no one in the entertainment industry who does it better. The wedding isn't the end of the adventure, but the beginning of it. Fidelity is a grand adventure; love can get you through anything. It is beautiful.
He understands that the Doctor is a legendary heroic figure, something out of myth whose actions have saved the universe countless times--but he's also an idiot who makes colossal mistakes and wears stupid clothes. Neither side of that characterization undercuts the other one. It neither deifies nor deconstructs the Doctor.
I love how so many stories in his era build off of ideas from earlier eras. Sort of like a second draft or a remake. Digging deep into concepts that were only shallowly glanced at before. It's the fandom instinct toward meta applied to episodes that actually got on-screen.
As a showrunner, I like how he gives other writers a bit more leeway to write the episodes with their style. And I loved the arcs in Series 5 and 6 especially--a significant thread that weaves through multiple episodes, but also doesn't take away from the standalone nature of the individual stories.
He gave the Doctor a family! The Eleven-Amy-Rory-River family is about as good as it gets for companion groups, to my mind. Rory especially is one of the greatest characters in the show--showing the heroism of the ordinary, faithful man and how that can be even better than the showy heroism of the Doctor. And River is the rare companion that I can actually ship with the Doctor, because her life is as strange and time-twisted as his is.
I love that his era focuses on time travel as more than a way to get to the setting of the episode. We get to dive deep into time travel mechanics, twisting back and forth across time in a single episode, delving into time loops and cause-and-effect and out-of-order relationships, and the very human effects all this timey-wimey nonsense can have on people.
It's funny! There is so much humor while never devolving into parody. So quick-witted and clever.
It's a show run by the best kind of fan--one who likes diving in to all those nerdy details, but understands at the end of the day that it's just a show and we can have fun with it. One of my favorite Moffat moments comes in the commentary track for the Series 5 Weeping Angels two-parter. There's a point where he's just riffing mercilessly on how silly the Weeping Angels when you think about it. They can't move when they're seen--makes them kind of weak, doesn't it? Like, he imagines a group of them running into trouble: "Why didn't you invade that planet?" "Oh, sorry, we couldn't. There was an insect." This is one of his greatest creations, basically the only New Who monster (as opposed to friendly alien) deemed worthy of repeat appearances, yet instead of being arrogant over it, he's willing to poke fun at it like any other element of the show. It's just so fun.
Even if the rest of his era had been garbage, I would have loved this era for The Day of the Doctor alone. What a triumph of an anniversary special. Beautifully, intricately plotted along several timelines. Set-up and payoff in layers upon layers. Plot resolutions hidden in jokes. A way to bring back Rose that wasn't just inane fan-service but was central to the entire story. Bringing in all the Doctors in a way that didn't clutter up the episode. But best of all, it healed the wound that the Time War had wrought upon the show. The Time War had served its purpose in restarting New Who and giving new depths to the character; the episode didn't erase that. But it challenged the idea that the Doctor had to end Gallifrey for the greater good. For such an idealistic show, it had always been odd for it to argue that the ends justified the means. This episode, at last, destroyed that argument. The Doctor doesn't have to justify the way he ended the war because it can't be justified! It was horrible! So he shouldn't do it! He can be clever and kind and find a better way to save everyone! It's so wonderfully Tolkien-esque and means so, so much to me.

Jan 6 - Day 7 - Fortnight in Books
Most memorable character:
How can I pick? A few that come to mind:
Eugenides, Costis, and Attolia (Queen's Thief series) - Eugenides is such a strange and fantastic trickster archetype who's full of mercy. Costis is one of the the most endearing pov characters I've run across. Attolia is made unforgettable by her story, and I will never forget scene on the stairs, or the dance and the stolen hairpins.
Harriet Vane (Gaudy Night) She takes my breath away with how real and complex she is, how subtle and effective her arc. I would be so intimidated by her in real life but would wish to heaven I wasn't.
Will Hardy (Wayfarer) I couldn't help but like him, a country boy in 1820's London for the very first time, with, um, superpowers.
Iphigeneia and Achilles (Iphigeneia in Aulis) This girl becomes the epitome of courage and strength over the course of her play, and her parallel arc with Achilles is INCREDIBLE.
Schmendrick and Molly Grue (The Last Unicorn - reread) I love them. I love them so dearly. Schmendrick I project on, and Molly is real.
Ratty and Toad (The Wind in the Willows - reread) Toad was one of my childhood favourites, and I find I still love him. But this reread really gave me an appreciation for Ratty, the courageous poet full of imagination but also love for the ordinary, common sense but also the ability to hear what the wind is saying in the willows, and who does not fear Pan.
Lucy and L*ckwood (censoring so Meri can still see this post if she wants to - I don't think it's an issue in this case.) These kids are homemakers in the truest sense of the word. (But someone should probably get them some help!)
Kate Sutton (The Perilous Gard) I want to be her.
Piranesi (Piranesi - reread) I'll never forget him. Never. Welcoming the albatross with arms open like a cross.
Janner and Kalmar Igiby (The Wingfeather Saga) These boys made me sob with the truth of their story.
Moriarty (Sherlock Holmes and the Voice of Treason) Especially for the sake of his conversations with Watson, his south Irish accent and expressive voice, the revelation that he taught maths at a "university of the Jesuitical persuasion on the continent," and the scene in the coffeeshop. Oh, and raiding the dark room. Oh, the consternation Watson feels when he realizes that Moriarty is just naturally a more congenial person to get along with than Holmes is.
Larry, Mother, and Spiro (The Corfu Trilogy) As these are fictionalized versions of real people, I'd best be careful to be respectful in how I talk of them. But oh, gosh, the fun.
Katniss Everdeen (The Hunger Games) What a shame her inner life is so misunderstood by the general pop culture.
Helene Hanff and Frank Doel (84 Charing Cross Road) Again, real people, and not even fictionalized in this case. But i loved both dearly.
Most annoying character:
Captain Creech (The Corfu Trilogy) Hands down. Eventually I skipped every passage he was in and refused to read it. This character was portrayed in a horrid manner, and I greatly hope he was not based on a real person. He existed in story only to be disgusting, and I was clearly expected to be charmed by him, or find everyone's reactions to him funny, or something. Ugh.

BLEACH: The Thousand Year Blood War Ep 18 & 19 Reactions and Thoughts
Overall reaction:
Tumblr media
First up, I didn't write anything for episode 18 last week because when I sat down to do it, all I could think to talk about was Renji's bankai reveal, which was epic, but didn't have much more to say beyond that. I loved the whole thing though, they made Renji look like such a badass throughout. And the reveal itself was *chef's kiss*
Tumblr media
As for this week...WOW. JUST WOW. INCREDIBLE, AMAZING, WOW. There's one main highlight and you all know what it is. Just...look at her:
Tumblr media
This is one of the most stunning things I've ever seen coming out of this show, that includes the original series. Hell, this is one of the most stunning bits of animation I've ever seen. How did they make her bankai more pretty and elegant than it already was in the manga?! I just love that her collar and sleeves are transparent, and the little details like the snowflake pattern that constantly moves over her clothes.
The visuals for this episode were so amazing, and as you can tell, I can't reblogging gifs of it. I loved every second from a visual standpoint, everything was beautifully drawn and coloured, whether it was make Rukia look fierce or terrified or beautiful, or to make As Nodt more creepy and hellish than he already is. I mean, just look at this creep:
Tumblr media
I loved this design in the manga, and I am LOVING it here now! Paired with church bells and music, this was a fantastic reveal.
As this adaption continues to show, when it comes to the fights of this arc, it's 10/10. Whether it's added content, hearing these characters say the lines, or just finally seeing these panels animated, it's reminding me of why I was so desperate to see this arc adapted into an anime. The moment I saw As Nodt's hand graze Rukia's, and she flinches and tries to find him, I got hyped. The moment he transformed into his Vollstandig, I was screaming. And then Rukia unleashes her bankai, and I was rolling in my chair. If As Nodt vs Rukia doesn't go down as one of the best anime fights from this year, I'll be shocked.
For one, while it goes without saying at this point, I cannot emphasis enough how GOOD the animation is:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I also loved the call back to decaying characters and the flies and how they were used for Rukia's greatest fear. It's a connection to Byakuya, an experience they can say they've both shared now, and it adds to the scenes that come next when he tells her he's proud of her and he helps her defrost.
Speaking of that scene, it was already a great moment in the manga, but see it not only animated but voiced, I teared up a little. I looked forward to seeing the dub version of the scene too, I have no doubt Michelle Ruff and Dan Woren will do great here. It's a small, emotional moment for the two them, and it's more or less a conclusion their brother-sister arc. We've come a long way since the beginning, huh?
Tumblr media
While we're on voice acting, can we give As Nodt actor absolute praise. He made him so gosh dark creepy throughout. This is the kind of voice I would hear while reading the manga, and the way he was able to morph his voice from quiet monotony to raging growls was just amazing. He was a standout in the episode for me honestly.
If I had two nit-picks about the animation, one is that As Nodt's eyeball monsters looked a little weird and out of place, but it's so small it didn't take away from the fight for me. The other is the weird video filter they used over Rukia's flashbacks; not sure why they used that filter? Is it trying to say the original show is that old now? Were they trying to be creative? Regardless, it jarred me a little, but again, it's a nit pick in what is otherwise a fantastic episode.
Overall, it was an amazing episode that will likely be in my top fifteen of the arc of the show. Next week, I'm preparing for two shikai reveals and maybe a few tears ;_;

I love the second season of OFMD. I honestly love it even more than the first season! The emotional highs and lows hit even harder. The first three episodes are, in my opinion, Perfect Television, and episodes four and five are currently my favorite things to rewatch. Even the weaker episodes have moments that are completely brilliant and had me yelling at my laptop at two in the morning the first time I experienced them.
But the season did have its flaws. The secondary characters really take a backseat to Ed and Stede, and I especially felt this with Jim. Izzy’s character development between seasons one and two and then between episodes four and five felt hurried and, sometimes, unearned. Episodes six, seven, and eight all work for me emotionally, but they all have story/pacing/continuity issues that the rest of the show doesn't.
I don’t blame the team for any of this! Given the shorter season and stringent limits on episode length, I understand why the crew focused on hitting all of the beats of Ed and Stede’s story at the expense of other storylines. It also seems like there was heavy interference in the back half of the season, and yeah, that makes episodes six, seven, and eight make more sense to me. Would’ve loved to see what those episodes might have looked like if season two had been given the same amount of freedom as season one.
Anyway, I’ve been dreaming about fix-its for season two and here are my top suggestions that no one asked for.
The ultimate fix: Add five to ten minutes to each episode (and tell the higher-ups to kick rocks if they want to make changes).
My faith in the writers is so absolute that I think this would fix most things. Jenkins and company are fantastic writers with solid handles on the story they want to tell, and every cut moment that we’ve seen has been so good. Given more time and freedom to tell their story, I honestly think they would’ve given us a season two that exceeded all expectations. But barring that…
Fix 1: Alter Izzy’s storyline.
One of the big stumbling blocks for me was Izzy. I know that some people love his storyline, and that’s okay! This is a fix-it list for me, not for them! I feel like we spent a lot of time with Izzy that might’ve been better spent elsewhere and his development didn’t feel earned. I just didn’t believe that he was a different guy by episode five, you know? So here’re a few ideas:
1A. Kill Izzy offscreen between seasons (the Ivan Treatment, if you will). I know this would never happen, but gosh, it'd save us from some discourse and free up a bunch of time.
1B. Make Izzy’s development more gradual. Make him resistant to helping Stede in episode five and bitchier towards the crew. Have him scowling in the background during Calypso’s birthday party. Don’t have him stroll in on Ed and Stede the morning after. Throw in a few moments where we see him wanting to change and be better. Give him a more subtle moment to show that he's better (and give Wee John the spotlight during the party).
1C. Spread out Izzy’s rehabilitation arc and have him receive the unicorn leg in episode eight. This frees up more time for other stuff and Izzy can live until the next season when his arc concludes -- everyone wins!
Fix 2: Cut Oluwande and Zheng Yi Sao’s romantic subplot.
It hurts me to suggest this because I love these two characters, but if we want to free up more time for character development, I think cutting into their subplot (and giving that time to Jim and Olu) is the way to go. They can still be friends! Maybe friends with an inkling that they’ll be romantically involved in the next season? But I really needed Jim and Olu to have more time together, and I think it would’ve been easy enough to establish an Olu/Jim/Archie polycule with hints that Zheng might be interested in that whole situation.
Fix 3: Give Ed more time with the crew.
I really, really wanted to see Ed and the crew work themselves out. Ed’s time with Fang was fantastic and I’d give anything for similar moments with, say, Jim and Frenchie. I also wanted some kind of resolution with Lucius. The season works for me without this -- I think that we’re meant to infer from Ed’s actions in episode five that he’s putting in the work with the whole crew -- but I want it. I want to see it with my eyeballs.
Fix 4: Add some songs for me personally.
Okay, I don’t think that adding any of the following songs would make the season materially better, but I still want to see:
- Kraken era “When Doves Cry” sequence - Smooching set to “Because the Night” - ABBA! Either “SOS” or “Lay All Your Love On Me”
That’s it, really! I know that cutting down Izzy and Olu/Zheng would’ve made some folks unhappy, so it’s probably just as well that David Jenkins didn’t ask me for a beta read.
And don’t get me wrong -- I’m so happy with the season two that we have. I don’t need it to be different, I just need Samba to release everything that was cut so we can string together our own director’s cut.

i'mma kick your ass lmao
Have you made any new friends this year in fandoms your muse isn't from? Who? - This year has been the year of getting abducted into the Stranger Things fandom by @thefreak-86 and this nerd named @talesfromthevoiid which then gatewayed me to a bunch of amazing people like @zoomingupthathill @theolderh3nderson @helltothefire @havvkinsqueen @surfkng @vitaegratis and so many more! I've also been hanging around Stars Hollow with @offorester and @erncst and @paddyfuck which has been an absolute blast! And then I've also been adopted into the Euphoria universe by @depictedmorada @depictedblue and @deeplyflxwed and it's been such a joy!
Have you made any new friends this year in the fandom your muse is from? Who? - I've been lucky to have a few Trubies show up this year! @headsxwillxroll and @itsacrowd brought Erics and @depictedmorada created such an amazing AU for Maddy and I'm so blessed to have connections for Jess in her canon verses!
How have you grown as a rper this year? - This year's been the year of imposter syndrome and feeling like I don't really have a place on the dash and I've done quite a bit to work through those insecurities and it's been a lot but I definitely feel like I'm in a better place than I was at the beginning of 2022
Have you learned any new skills through your rp blog this year? - I learned a lil Javascript which was fun lol
Have you read/watched/played anything new thanks to the rpc this year? - Literally the only reason I watched season four of Stranger Things is because of @thefreak-86 and then I went back and did a rewatch after it fully claimed my brain again lmao.
Have you made any new blogs or added any new muses this year? How have they been going? - I have some ideas for a new blog for 2023 but we'll see if that gets off the ground! Otherwise it's just been verse building here on Jess.
Talk about one of your favorite threads that started this year. (If you get multiple of this ask, talk about multiple threads!) - Oh gosh, there's so many and I think I'm gonna kinda cheat and say the arc that @thefreak-86 and I have for Jess and Eddie. It's technically three threads but it's so good. If I have to pick one standalone, though, I've probably re-read our initial rockstar verse thread the most hahah.
Talk about one of your favorite headcanons you posted this year. - There was a lot of headcanons around music this year and I think my favorite is that Jess is a nu-goth fan in the 80s hahaha
Talk about one of your favorite world building you posted this year. - All of the world building you and I have done in our fated mates verse has been so much fun and the fact that it's grown a bit to include others is one of my favorite things!
Did you the mun learn anything about yourself this year? What? -I'm really a sucker for a good fated mates trope lmao
Tag a blog whose writing inspired you this year. -@havvkinsqueen/@livesguarded and @vitaegratis both of these writers have such a phenomenal way of writing their characters and their writing is definitely an inspo for me! Also @heartxshaped-bruises writing. Writing with them has pushed me to explore a type of writing that I usually chicken out writing and we’ve created such an amazing world together!
Tag a blog whose character inspired you this year. - @talesfromthevoiid from Steve to Scott to Ellie to Angel your characters push me to explore new places with Jess and I'm incredibly grateful for you 💖
Tag a blog whose world building inspired you this year. - @erncst/@itsacrowd Jean is an amazing writer who continues to help me explore new worlds and is constantly bringing fantastic and creative places for our muses to meet!
Tag a blog whose prompts or templates inspired you this year. -@leneemusing has come in clutch with the prompts this year
Tag a blog that taught you something new this year. -Uhhh. . . @talesfromthevoiid has gotten me to watch a bunch of new movies this year?? lol
Wildcard: talk about anything that you want to that happened this year! - I'm super grateful for the place I've found here on the dash. There's a community feeling that I haven't been a part of in quite a long time here on the dash. I know that comes with its own set of issues and this year has been rife with them, but I'm so happy to have found the folks that I have and am looking forward to the future 💗💗

Season 1, Episode 9 the French connection caper for @csweekly
I am so late. The entire family has been sick.
But I am READY for the pain once again.
Dr. Bellum’s turn to make the slideshow. Her’s is very techy. Also, Chase I know he eats mints all the time, but for it to show up prominently in his profile that VILE created of you, that is something.
I’m sorry but i LOVE that Chase saved Zack’s cover I’m dying. This entire show remembers that not everyone knows everything and absolutely leans into it and it’s more fun than other shows that try this.
But they apparently don’t care about the cell phone she stole. They probably think she was talking to Chase the whole time which is actually a hilarious AU. Someone please write that.
“Carmen Sandiego isn’t working alone” *points to Player*
“Sounds like we have plan B as in bait” *AGGRESSIVELY points to Player*
The lucky cat coat my beloved. “It was on sale” truly one of the greatest lines ever.
You GO Julia. Gosh she’s such a good person. She tries to include Chase even after he’s been absolute trash to her. And she finally gets to let loose a bit. This argument is so good. Needed to be had for both of them. All season Julia has needed to get this out. And really it’s the first dose of reality towards Chase turning a new leaf. He’s not in charge like in Interpol. He may be an agent but hes been demoted down the food chain and having to come to terms with his attitude not jelling with ACME.
“Since you are Chief’s favorite” until Zack joins, apparently
Everyone is plotting something but it’s not what the person who says the line thinks. Chase thinks Carmen is plotting a caper when she’s actually at a loss for VILE leads and on vacation. Carmen thinks Shadowsan is plotting on how to get her back when he’s really planning to join her. Fantastic little exchange there.
Ivy predicts VILE’s next hq. The foreshadowing in this show.
I love the siblings in this scene. I have never seen any sequence of events so sibling in my life.
Also others have pointed it out but Carmen can’t relax. That is heartbreaking. Honestly her entire childhood simultaneously is filled with good memories and also is a complete nightmare. Get this girl a professional to talk to.
This scene where we find out how Coach Brunt feels did not properly fill me with absolute horror the first time. Now it does. It just makes me scream nooooo because Shadowsan had a clean getaway. And Chase might have been spared.
Okay. Yes. This scene. With the toothpaste. This is when I knew with absolute certainty that Chase was getting a redemption arc. Characters typically don’t get to be shown such self loathing and not turn it around in the end. And I developed a desperate desire to see him and Carmen work together (AND I GOT MY WISH).
Also vile brand toothpaste what the heck. Why does it exist lol
I’d pay money to know what was running through Player’s head when he read that note the first time, before he read it aloud to Carmen
Carmen no don’t smile this is not your average caper. For you to test your abilities.
The way we see that Chase has actual interrogation training when he chooses to use his head. A+ awful singing. He’s seen over half the Faculty now! That truth extractor is TERRIFYING. I use it in every fic.
Red Drone tapping on the window. Adorable. Simple. Effective.
OKaY casually BENDING METAL with her BARE HANDS
Aww red brings out Ivy's eyes but red is not Zack’s color lol! I would be terrified too Zack.
Love this scene. Chase is accusing Carmen of everything and she just sounds so kind as she rescues him. She knows it’s not true and she’s okay being the bad guy as long as others are safe.
Reminding the audience that Carmen has a taser.
First time seeing the pen! At this point I can’t help but see Carmen’s stress here and think she has to know that the status quo is changing. She looks like a deer in headlights. Already in way over her head.
Also he’s heavy lol. Carmen is very obviously strong and she struggles to pull Chase deadweight. I don’t blame her it’s hard to do. The fact that she makes headway is impressive.
The way Brunt finishes that sentence, “too late” I tell you I am never prepared for what is to come. This entire sequence is just *chefs kiss*. The absolute methodical way that Brunt corners Carmen, isolates her, strips her of all of her agency, makes her helpless. TEARS THE COAT IN HALF!!!!!! It’s SUPER EFFECTIVE. I know it’s already been pointed out but it’s such a parallel to her childhood but now Carmen sees the truth of it all.
And I just really love a good whump scene.
Also, friendly reminder that Player. Heard. EVERYTHING. Sign him up for therapy too.
The moment Carmen realizes what’s about to happen is the moment she can’t breathe.
Shadowsan didn’t even need to see Ivy to realize that Carmen was back at the warehouse. It still astounds me how fast he was. I also love how intense he is up until he can’t any longer. It’s like it’s so hard for him to drop this act that he’s played for so long.
Again. Player heard everything. The terror of hearing your best friend in a fight for her life and there’s literally nothing he can do.
Ahh and the gradual realization that Shadowsan’s not who he seeeeeems. The view of Carmen not dead. The broken lock. The way he visibly softens as he tells her to follow him. The way he gets uncomfortable under her questioning now that he can’t hide behind his gruffness. I am absolutely delighted every time I watch this I remember being SO shocked and thrilled the first time I watched this. It’s the joy of seeing everything fall into place plot wise. So satisfying.
“There is nothing more to tell” LIAR
Carmen’s joy when she gets confirmation the coat was empty!!! AND Shadowsan being GENUINELY proud of her instead of upset about it please. I know considering the circumstances in which he found her, that Shadowsan would consider himself far from her father figure. But it’s the role he was given in life. And he’s TRYING.
“You knew what they’d do to me when I said no” it’s only after the confrontation with Coach Brunt that Carmen can really understand why Shadowsan did what he did.
The way skeptical Player still apologizes to Carmen in empathy that Shadowsan leaves. (Lol Player is so unapologetically on Carmen’s side to call Shadowsan the worst even after all of that. Considering the nightmare scene in the lucky cat caper there have been Talks and this is just what best friends do gosh I wish we had a scene where Player grills him but also he respects that’s Carmen’s agency so urghhhh) (also also it’s cute Player calls Chase a detective rather than agent in a nice homage to the older CS iterations) And we see the gift of a new hard drive. It’s. This is SUCH a perfect season finale. Enough answers to respectably tie off many s1 plot points but with the hard drive and Shadowsan’s dodgy answers leaves plenty of promise for the next season.

who are your favorite pcs on dimension 20? (either as a whole, per season, whatever you want!)
oh gosh, that's such a difficult decision! i might go based on seasons i've seen? and as a disclaimer: i love every single pc, everyone plays so well on dimension 20 and i love the choices people make, this is all just my opinion!
fantasy high freshman year: god i love gorgug in this season, he was such a goofy guy, and i love him. he honestly was what made me switch to playing more barbarians in my own gameplay
fhsy: fig was sooooo good in this season, the stuff with her and ayda, all the skateboarding away, and just her coming into her own as a person hit very hard for me.
the seven: ostentatia wallace was so good, and izzy was so fun at the table! i'm so excited to watch her in coffin run and in burrow's end. just yelling "i love you" at her dad and all the cleric shit was amazing, and i loved every second of her.
unsleeping city: i've only seen the first season, but i loved kugrash so much!! him being rat jesus was too funny, but he also had his heartbreaking moments. he was a very well developed character and murph played him so well
crown of candy: it's a tie between 3, which i know is so bad, but they are liam, lapin, and theo. they each are just so fantastic and i love them all so much. liam was so sweet, and then when he was a war guy, that was so good too! him and primsy <3. lapin was fucking hilarious, i don't care what anyone else says. his banter with theo was unmatched, and the last episode with him was heart-wrenching and i loved every second of it. theo is also so good. casting knock on the door!!! the banter, sprinkle, the protectiveness all of it!
ravening war: god i love colin and raphaniel so so much! they are such a duo. but so are colin and deli! but then deli and karna! but then karna and amongeux! god, that season was full of top players and i probably couldn't choose one rn.
starstruck oddyessy: god i loved gunnie! the ball is rolling up is in my vocabulary now, and i honestly enjoy everything that lou wilson does, he's phenomenal. also skip is fucking hilarious in the beginning, when he's learning how to talk, it makes me giggle all the time
neverafter: tbh i loved everyone in this season! my top favs were definitely ylfa and pinocchio though. lou's voice was fucking crazy but it was wonderful. his arc with his stepmother slayed. ylfa is a character that i relate to a little too much probably, but she is so wonderful. her and the wolf are crazy. i watch way too many edits with ylfa clips, it's probably something i should work on haha
escape from the bloodkeep: tbh i love leiland! i'm only on episode three but he slays figuratively and literally (though not much literally lol) matt mercer is a great player and i love everything he does!
i'm so sorry that this was so lengthy lmao, can you tell that i like dimension 20 and dungeons and dragons???
