𝙎𝙝𝙖𝙙𝙤𝙬 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝘽𝙤𝙣𝙚 𝙊𝘾 ✸ 𝘓𝘢𝘳𝘪𝘴𝘴𝘢 𝘔𝘰𝘳𝘰𝘻𝘰𝘷𝘢

It started with a women and her son. The women was strong willed, care free, and beautiful. She was elegant and wise. She loved her son deeply and wanted him to be independent and brave. She taught him the ways of the Grisha and she told him stories of how they were ostracized and unwanted from the rest of society. From his mother he learned how to be tough and to stick up for himself. He became very protective of his mother and wanted nothing more for her to be safe and happy. The women one day decided she wanted more for her son. Seeing as a child would want more than just his mother for company, she went into town and sought out a strong Grisha whom she would take to bed.  When the girl was born, the boy knew that he would do anything to keep her safe and happy just like his mother. As she got older she began to show her powers as a Tidemaker differing from her mother and brother. Even though their powers differed, they taught her everything they knew. 

As the boy grew more powerful and gained more control, the girl stayed by his side. He never made a decision without consulting her first and together their grew the second army. Unlike the boy, the girl quickly fit in with all of the other Grisha her age. She ate with them and went to classes with them, even though she was way beyond their knowledge in summoning. She was an extremely social being. As she grew up she became a bigger part in the court. She would often accompany her brother to the Grand Palace and she became an excellent diplomat. She was poised and elegant like her mother and resembled a queen. She was beautiful and quickly caught the eye of many of the boys at the many balls and dinners she would attend at both palaces.

She noticed her brother hovering and did not mind in the slightest for she did not have her eye on any of the boys except for one?

She had met with the royal family many times and quickly became close with the youngest prince because of his witty banter and his playful nature. Them being very close in age, they have hung out together since he was thirteen and her and her brother moved into the  little palace. Other than her brother he was the girl’s closest friend. They often snuck out at night to run through the grounds and play by the lake away from the palace. They confided in each other about their troubles— mainly ranting about their annoying older brothers— and laughed together throughout their growing years. They shared both of their first kisses together and, knowing of her brothers distaste for the girl having a relationship, snuck around the two palaces stealing kisses in empty palace rooms and at their spot along the lake after it was dark. Her brother remained protective of her, and he remained oblivious of their relationship as she promised him she had no interest in anyone. He knew that she was old enough to make her own smart decisions but he was terrified of someone hurting her so he kept her to himself. And hurt was exactly what happened to her

Introducing - ‘Lucie Lantsov’

The caged bird of Os Alta, they called her. Lovely and delicate, kept in her gilded cage and appeased with books and dresses and all manner of pretty things. There were rumors, of course, stories shared among the inhabitants of Ravka regarding the king’s niece and why she never left, why she was kept so carefully shut away, even when the royal and family left Os Alta in the same in favor of their lake palace. 

The truth is, Lucie Lantsov is one of Ravka’s most well-kept secret. Favored by her uncle, the King, for a power that is mysterious to all of those around her. Lucie is a Grisha, but a Grisha unlike any other. They have no class of Grisha for what she is and no other Grisha to compare her powers too. Some call her a caged bird, but there is another name for her as well. 

The Prophet. 

Lucie possesses the ability to foretell the future. A fun parlor trick, to be sure, but it runs deeper than that. Within her, she possesses the ability to see the turns of major battles, the disastrous ends of potential alliances, the tragedy of love stories gone wrong. Because, though she can see what might happen, the future is not set in stone, and the knowledge of what might happen gives her the ability to change it. It’s a useful ability, one that her Uncle values over nearly every other Grisha ability. But, it doesn’t improve Lucie’s ability to fight, she can’t beat down an enemy with it. And why would he want her to when she can be kept in Os Alta, the most well-protected city in Ravka. There, Lucie will be safe. 

Summers are spent wandering the empty halls of the palace alone, not welcomed among the other Grisha or in the Little Palace because of who she is, the little bird with a foot in each world, born with a silver spoon in her mouth and every advantage placed in her hands. But it is here, in these empty halls, alone and desperate for companionship, that she first caught the interest of the Darkling. The rest, as they say, is history.

➤ Vanka Dostoevsky (fc: kate fleetwood) She is the matriarch of the family. She is a Heartrender that has served the Darkling for decades. She is aware of his true motives and is supportive. Her goal has been to have Grisha children to better serve the Darkling. Vanka has had three husbands and they all have "mysteriously" passed on.

‎‎➤ Adrika Dostoevsky (fc: alyssa sutherland) As the eldest daughter, she has had the most pressure. She is an Inferni, though her powers are barely valued by the Darkling. He utilizes her beauty and seduction to gather information from others. Adrika is in love with the Darkling but he does not reciprocate. She is aware of his truth but she serves him loyally.

‎‎➤ Nikita Dostoevsky (fc: hannah new) She is seen as a disappointment in the family for not being Grisha. Despite this, she has become a remarkable swordswoman and has become fluent in various languages. She has yet served the Darkling, mostly because Vanka has assured him that she would be of no use, but she is to be summoned soon. Nikita is vaguely aware of the Darkling's true nature and strongly dislikes him.

‎‎➤ Anya Dostoevsky (fc: gaia weiss) As the youngest, she is protected by Adrika and Nikita. Neither of them wants her to serve the Darkling, however, Vanka does not care. She is a Squaller, a powerful one at that, and is extremely optimistic. Anya has no idea who the Darkling really is and believes she will become a hero. She has yet to serve.

They all have the same last name because they have taken their mother's maiden name.

Additionally, I plan to reveal Nikita as a unique Grisha that can control electricity (including in the human body) and lightning. This will be called Elerialki and she will wear blue.

I'm unsure about s/os, not really sure where it'll go, but I may have Nikita get with an OC.

hello! this is my first time posting for work in progress wednesday and I’m a little nervous but also excited to share this part from my upcoming bad things happen bingo fic! I editing this part a bit so I can post it and I think it’s also 90% how it will be in the final version of the fic! this fic features dual function FD medic TK! feedback would be greatly appreciated!

“Officer Reyes,” Owen replies. “How many apartments are occupied?”

“All of them,” Carlos responds. “Some tenants made it out but there are still others unaccounted for,” he continues, pointing to the group of people sitting on the lawn.

Owen nods. “Judd, radio for additional ambulances, Officer Reyes, I’m going to need you to expand the scene perimeter for the incoming rigs.”

“Yes, sir,” Carlos nods.

“I should go in, too.”

The two captains and officer turn towards TK’s voice, finding the paramedic standing near.

“TK,” Owen starts to object but TK shakes his head, effectively stopping the rest of Owen’s sentence.

“Someone could be hurt in there and they could need help right away,” TK says. “We’ve seen how bad injuries can get in a fire as big as this, I have the training, I can do this.”

Tommy and Owen share a look and then the fire captain sighs.

“Okay,” Owen agrees. “You’re going in with Judd.”

TK nods, hands Tommy the medkit and quickly starts moving towards the firetruck to retrieve his turnout coat and gear, the adrenaline already starting to pump through his veins.

Carlos exchanges a quick concerned look with Owen before radioing Mitchell to relay Owen’s instructions as he follows TK. He reaches his boyfriend as TK is slipping on his coat.

Hearing footsteps approaching him, TK turns for a swift glance and spots Carlos. “It’s a good thing we keep these in the truck. It still fits,” he says, an attempt to lighten the tense atmosphere a little.

It doesn’t quite work as he had hoped, but Carlos gives him a small smile. TK takes it as a win.

“I’m going to be fine,” TK reassures Carlos, his tone turning a little serious as he feels and sees the worry and concern radiating from Carlos’s brown eyes.

The officer nods, placing his hands on his belt.

“I need to do this,” TK says.

“I know,” Carlos reaches a hand and places it on TK’s shoulder, giving him a light, supportive squeeze there. “I’m not going to try to talk you out of this. Just promise me you’ll be careful.”

TK knows it isn’t easy for Carlos to say those words, that every cell and fiber in Carlos’s being is screaming at him to stop TK, to tell him to stay out here, where it’s safe. Because TK knows he himself would be hearing those same screams inside his head if it were Carlos going into a dangerous situation. But he knows they trust each other, that they know, beyond a shadow of a doubt, the other is good at what they do, and that it is part of who they are. Still, however, that knowledge doesn’t really help much in taming the hot pit of worry that brews in their stomach when the other is going into a dangerous situation.

TK knows Carlos is being strong for him, he can read it in his facial expressions and in his body language, in the rigid muscles under Carlos’s uniform. But he just as easily can identify that trust Carlos has in him, the love he feels and carries for him.  

He takes Carlos’s hand and intertwines their fingers for a few moments.

He knows he has to go now, that every second counts, but he also doesn’t want to leave Carlos without reassurance. TK can sense when a hint of tension seeps from his boyfriend’s body at his touch.

“I promise,” TK gives him a small smile. “And I’ll be with Judd the whole time,” he adds, his voice strong.

Carlos nods again and then TK’s hand is gone from his. His eyes trail after TK as the younger man regroups with his crew.

Carlos feels frozen in place, his gut twists and dread sets into his bones, unable to shake this feeling that something dark is awaiting in the smoke, lingering, waiting. Carlos shakes his head, trying to expel those thoughts and to compose himself.

TK is going to be fine.

He stands taller, his breathing under control now, ready to focus on doing his job but all he can feel and concentrate on in this moment is the ghost of TK’s touch.
