hello! today’s snippet is from a spec fic based on the season 3′s finale synopsis, its under the cut! I’m really excited for it!

I couldn’t get the idea that it’s carlos trapped inside the building out of my head and I got inspiration for it a few nights ago and started writing and I like how its coming together! this is going to be near the beginning of the fic, I hope you enjoy!

TK heart drops further into his knees as he approaches the collapsed building, and as soon as his eyes land on the Texas Ranger, he knows.

Gabriel’s eyes catch TK’s, and the haunted look etched into the older man’s brown irises tells TK everything he needs to know.

Everything around TK comes to a near-halt, moving in slow motion, voices and noises muted. All TK can hear clearly is the sound of his own blood rushing in his ears.

Eventually, after what felt like a year or two, Gabriel reaches the paramedic.

TK draws in a deep breath and shakily exhales.

“He’s okay,” Gabriel tells TK, “he was just talking through his radio,” he quickly adds.

TK nods.

“Do we know his last location?” TK hears his father’s voice behind him, but all he can focus on is the rubble in front of him, and his mind wanders to all the injuries Carlos might have suffered. He feels a lump forming in his throat.

He can hear Gabriel’s reply, but it’s so far away. Then he feels a hand on his shoulder.

“Come on, son,” Gabriel prompts TK.

TK easily goes with the Ranger, leading him away from the firefighters who are now discussing their plan of action. TK knows they’ll get Carlos out safely, he knows they will.

“Carlitos,” Gabriel says into the radio, capturing TK’s attention.

He and TK simultaneously holds their breath, waiting for the officer to reply. It takes just a couple of seconds, but they feel like a lifetime.

“Dad,” comes Carlos’s weak reply.

TK immediately notices how the Ranger’s face pales some more, and it tells the paramedic everything he needs to know.

Carlos is getting weaker.

TK can feel his heart hammering roughly against his ribcage, pounding as he wills it to slow down. Carlos needs him right now. That’s all he needs to focus on.

“I have someone here who wants to talk to you,” Gabriel’s voice draws TK’s attention and he looks down to see Gabriel pushing the radio into his hand.

That’s when TK notices that his hands are trembling. And if Gabriel notices too, he doesn’t say anything.

Instead, the Ranger gives TK an empathetic and understanding look, patting TK’s back as his brown eyes—the signature Reyes brown eyes—radiate support.

The younger man nods in understanding.

TK clears his throat, bringing the radio up to his mouth. “Hey, baby,” he says, hoping his voice is steadier than how it sounds to him.

A beat, another, and then...

“TK...” Carlos responds, half question, half statement, like he’s wondering if TK is actually here, wondering if he can actually hear TK’s voice and that it isn’t his imagination.

“Yeah, baby, I’m here,” TK manages to reply without his voice breaking.

But God, Carlos sounds so deflated, his voice barely carrying over the connection. It shakes TK to his core.

“I’m...tired,” Carlos whispers.

“I know, but I need you to stay with me, okay? We’ll get you out soon,” TK promises. “I just need you to stay awake and to stay with me, baby.”

A moment passes without Carlos responding. A moment too long.

“Carlos?” TK calls. “Carlos!” He repeats, his voice louder now as panic begins to rise hotly in his body.

He senses a presence next to him and doesn’t need to turn to know it’s Gabriel.

“Please, Carlos,” TK begs into the radio, his hands clutching it so tightly his knuckles go white.

He can’t lose Carlos. He can’t.

@howtosingit Brian does SO MUCH for this fandom. I am forever in his debt for the Rafa blog aka my lifeline on this site. A++ tags when it comes to most things but especially Rafa content. He gets it. I love his love for that man bc hard same. I really like reading his thoughts about the show as a whole too. In my head, I really associate Brian with my first foray into this fandom. I was SUPER nervous to write because there were so many wonderful writers (Brian among them) that I wasn't so sure if I should even post. But I did! And he was, I think literally, the first person to leave a comment on my first fic. It's such a small thing that had a big impact on my confidence in posting stories so, thanks for that 💕

@bellakitse another day one. Stef is one of my favorite writers. I love going back on her page and rereading stuff and getting yelled at by ao3 that I already left kudos, like okay and?? the stories are amazing, I want to continue showing more love! I just love her writing so much, my goodness. It was a good day when I decided to get back into the world of fic/writing. I'm glad to have come across her stuff. Stef is so chill and cool. There's just something about her vibe that I like a ton and it totally reflects in the things she writes and shares on here. We have other fandoms in common too which is pretty neat. I appreciate each and every Stucky reblog that graces my dash because of her.

Fic Rec Friday

Theme: Rec a 'gateway' fic - a fic that you read and it was so good it lead you to read multiple works by the same writer.

This was a hard selection to choose from, but I have to go with my numero uno (literally): It Takes A Village by @bellakitse (The first instalment and series are both named the same)

I will say this with chest. This is purely amazing. The best. It has a special place in my rec list because it was the first fanfic, as well as series, that I ever read for the fandom. Specially, since back in the day, circa 2020 (insert Wendy Williams' fake smoking gif, with a rich lady voice: "I have lived"), there were a few tarlos fics here and there in ao3, and not 7k+ like today lol.

If I'm honest, I can't stress enough how well-written this series is and how timeless it is. I always go back to read it and I read them with so much wishful thinking. I see them as the what if's of the show, not just because of how beautifully the author portrays TK and Carlos' relationship, but because of the strong sibling dynamic between Judd and TK, and even so with Carlos and Grace. Mind you, most of this was published/written when s1 of lone star was airing/had already aired and the way that all characters are portrayed? It's so spot on! Even with what we know today, they are depicted to the T. This will always impress me.

Nonetheless, this leads to the other best series by, you know it, you love her: @bellakitse! Technically a follow up to It Takes A Village, please make some noise for the one and only: Luca Strand-Reyes.

I literally have no words to describe how much love I (still) have for little Luca, and what a wonderful addition his character was to the previous series and this one.

@bellakitse is just amazing tbh, but y'all knew that :)

A really lovely fic that includes Carlos and TK talking through TK's decision to become a paramedic, which is something I desperately wish we had seen on the show! It also includes some discussion of TK going to meetings, another thing that was missing from season 2. This fic also provides an explanation for something I had been thinking about recently...why would it have been so ridiculous for Tommy to go into the minefield with Owen in 2x06? Here it's explained as a bad idea because it would have been both captains going into the same significant danger. I'm not sure if it was thought through to that extent by the show's writers, but you know what? That works for me. I will accept it!

Seven Six Sentence Sunday

This is still a caper (?) probably (?). I think I found my framing, I just need to figure out how to make it work, and then - you know, write it.

The third time they come for them there are only two of them. The third time they come they’re careless. The third time they come Jess gets out. The third time they come he fights back, the wet crumple crunch of something breaking under his fist, and a bright spurt of blood that’s still on his knuckles. He keeps fighting even though he knows he can’t win to buy Jess time to get away, and then because he’s got a theory that they won’t actually let him get that hurt, that there’s something he has that they need. It’s nice to be right he thinks vaguely as they hold him down and drug him.

Summary: Steve and Bucky always meet up during their free third period so they can hang out (read: make out) behind the bleachers on the soccer field. They used to go to the football ones, but too many people had the same idea as them and they preferred the empty, if seriously worse-for-wear, soccer bleachers. But today, Bucky doesn’t greet Steve with his usual bruising kiss, instead sweeping him into a gentle hug and holding him there for a minute. Now, Steve’s never one to complain about hugs, but he would infinitely prefer to already be sucking on Bucky’s tongue by now (he’s got his inhaler ready and everything, just in case he needs it) so he stands on his tiptoes and tries to bring their mouths together, but Bucky just holds him away gently.

Summary: Captain's Log, stardate 2246.5 Our diplomatic mission to Nova ended smoothly. Nova Prime and the Antaran diplomatic envoy have begun to hash out a trade deal and no longer require Starfleet to act as a neutral third party. We're heading to the Galiway trade hub to restock the ship and release the crew on an extended ten-day shore leave. Some of the crew are starting to get cabin fever with leave being delayed by almost a month now. Such delays are unavoidable, but I can't blame them for feeling cooped up when I, myself— "Steve, c'mon already. This synthale ain't gonna drink itself." Anyway, we should arrive at Galiway sometime within the next twenty-four hours. Hopefully everyone should be less antsy after they blow off a little steam, including the officers. That's all for now.
