Emmanellain being the first person to know Haurchefant has been resurrected can be so powerful actually. What's another secret kept so the other doesn't get in trouble? It's more than playing marbles out of sight and it's more than Haurchefant sneaking out and yet it's still the same, isn't it?
It's been two years and the world's moved on without you and the hole you left has been smoothed over but you can still keep secrets with your little brother and by the fury will he do his best in his own way, as he always has.

one of my favorite bits of minor coerthan lore is that there's an abandoned castrum (castrum aquilonis) that they stopped construction on because of how tremendously shitty coerthan weather is now. the garleans -- from garlemald! notorious for its harsh conditions and shitty weather! -- took one look around coerthas and said, "actually, fuck this."
this is after they sent a spy to infiltrate ishgard & lost her. thing is, lucia received the ranking of "goe" before her defection: that places her at the same social rank as rulers of imperial territories and provinces, and among the frumentarii, it would indicate leadership. she was not just a normal field operative, she was a major resource for the empire. and she took one look at aymeric and said, "ummmm yeah i'm catholic now."
ishgard racking up Ws and clowning on the most powerful country in the known world at every turn just by existing in the mountains and having cold weather and hot elves. that is so funny to me

#loveintheair Day 7 - Memorial (Free Day)
Fandom: Final Fantasy XIV Characters/Relationships: Leofard Myste/Warrior of Light, Past Haurchefant Greystone/Warrior of Light, Emmanellain de Fortemps (for like one sentence) Warnings: Major character death (mentioned) Prompt List and Event by millymischief Day 1 | Day 2 | Day 3 | Day 4 | Day 5 | Day 6 | Day 7
“Well, old boy! Fancy seeing you one last time before your next great adventure! Might I….” Emmanellain’s voice faded as the great wooden doors shut, leaving Leofard no longer privy to whatever the younger Fortemps son had to say to Moro’a.
A little quiet suited him just fine every now and then. He stuck to the shadow cast by the building, out of sight of any folks; by all accounts he wasn’t here, waiting for Moro’a to say his farewells to those he knew in Camp Dragonhead and Skyfire Locks.
I don’t mind if you are seen with me, Moro’a had said the night before. It’s bound to happen at some point, especially if we’re anywhere near Emmanellain’s nose.
And all the better if he only sniffs us out after we’ve left for Tural, not before, he’d insisted back. Fury, Moro’a needed a better grasp on just how quickly the tabloids could turn a rumour, spreading its roots till it’d embedded itself in every corner of the realm. Perhaps then he’d avoid having his name on their papers every other moon.
Leofard did still like keeping his private life private as well. They could come back to the conversation on the way back to Eorzea.
He waited until the doors swung open again, and he heard quiet footsteps in the snow, walking in his direction. A shadow appeared in the snow in front of him: the hand signal they’d planned before coming to Coerthas. Ready when you are.
He grinned as he joined Moro’a, stepping out into the open. Together they walked through the encampment, under the raised platform where the aetheryte stood and out of the north-eastern entrance. He supposed he should’ve given Moro’a’s planning abilities more credit — the glamour prism he was wearing made him appear as though he were Moro’a’s chocobo, Sal, and nary a suspicion was raised as they left the garrison behind and began the steep climb up the hill that passed the Steel Vigil.
Once they were out of sight and earshot from Camp Dragonhead, Moro’a turned towards Leofard, who dispelled the glamour. There was a question on his face. “I know I’ve asked you once, but…are you certain you wish to follow me to the cliff?”
“I told you before and I’ll tell you the same thing: I’m all for this.” Leofard shrugged, grinning. “‘Sides, I can hardly judge when you see Lady Raimille’s visage presidin’ over me quarters every time you come over...”
Moro’a laughed, a quiet sound that peppered the air with small, white puffs, and made Leofard’s heart leap in a way he still wasn’t used to. “Then I won’t ask again,” he said.
Satisfied, Leofard fastened one of the buttons on his cloak, trying his best to keep up. He’d never travelled to Ishgard’s surrounding highlands much as a boy, and he had even fewer reasons to do so as a man, so the landscape was unrecognisable to him now. The path became steeper and they passed the remains of the Steel Vigil; high altitudes he could handle without a sweat, but the extreme cold sapped at his energy, though he did his best to hide his struggle.
In contrast, Moro’a moved through the fresh snow like he was born for it, taking steady strides as he cleared an easier path for Leofard with his snowshoes. The knights didn’t travel up this path every day, he’d explained earlier, but he seemed to know where most of the shallower patches fell. The aevises, having since learnt not to violate man and dragon’s new era of peace, left them alone.
As they approached the crest of the hill, Leofard saw it: a humble stone flanked by a shield, erected behind the larger cairns dotting the hill. Moro’a’s steps slowed. As the Keeper passed by the cairn at the centre, he briefly placed his hand on the largest stone, which was miraculously untouched by snow. Leofard made out a faint mark that resembled the symbol of Menphina.
Huh. The mark of the Lover — what a coincidence.
He watched from a few yalms away as Moro’a knelt before the small cenotaph, taking out a small bouquet of flowers from a wooden case and laying them before the stone. He was silent, but Leofard could tell that he was talking, his head turning slightly here and there as he regaled the memorial with whatever it was he wished to say to his former lover and friend.
Haurchefant Greystone…Leofard had scarcely interacted with the other nobles, let alone their children while he was raised under House Roulchardon, but even he had learnt of Count Edmont de Fortemps’s second son — a bastard child who’d been permitted to live under his lord father’s roof. It made him appreciate Lady Raimille’s delicate penchant for secrecy, at least until he’d grown old enough to resent the archaic rules that bound him and the rest of the “highborn” in chains. But to hear anyone tell his tales now, the man was a godsdamned hero, his name now preserved for his part in bringing an end to the Dragonsong War by saving the Saviour of Ishgard.
Yet even a hero was not exempt from the rumour mills. Tall tales of Moro’a’s relationship with Haurchefant had hit the papers well before the latter’s untimely demise. Leofard only skimmed through the drivel to keep his finger on what was happening in Ishgard, but he clearly remembered the day they’d announced Lord Haurchefant’s passing — along with insinuations, some barbed, about whom the Champion of Eorzea kept his bed warm with for moons after.
Moving a little closer, Leofard identified the flowers Moro’a had chosen for such a man. Tiny and powder blue…forget-me-nots. Hells, if it didn’t make him just a teensy bit insecure; just how was he supposed to measure up to someone who’d sacrificed his own life for his lover? Moro’a seldom spoke of Haurchefant as it was, and though Leofard had never asked for a benchmark, it didn’t help that he hadn’t a clue what it really took to be the former Warrior of Light’s partner in crime…
He was being a dolt — Moro’a had never asked that of him to begin with. Shifting from one foot to the other, he kept a calm expression as Moro’a rose from Haurchefant’s memorial. His eyes were wet, but to Leofard’s relief he was smiling.
“What did you tell him?” he asked lightheartedly, not really expecting an answer as Moro’a stepped away from the stone. He could count on Moro’a to be full of surprises, though, for he answered. “I told him about what’s happened since the Final Days ended — going to the Thirteenth, meeting Zero and Golbez, Vrtra and Azdaja. About travelling to Tural, because I can’t seem to stop myself from seeing new places and helping people along the way.” He seemed embarrassed, even a little flustered, as he added, “I told him about you.”
“Me? Well I’ll be,” Leofard preened; he was a little too pleased over the fact. “I won’t pry, but I do demand that the favour be returned in kind.” Moro’a tilted his head, and so Leofard tried again. “How am I to live up to and beyond his gilded reputation when I don’t yet know what kind of a man he was to you, eh?”
“You…” In one stride, Moro’a stood in front of him and reached for his shoulders, pulling him down to kiss him. Leofard was happy to return it — so what if he was a little bit in love? When they finally parted, Moro’a let out an exasperated sigh. “You can start by simply being you,” he asserted. “A man with a heart for adventure.”
Leofard could do that. It would be the simplest thing in the world. “But since you asked…I’ll tell you more about him sometime,” Moro’a added tentatively. He fidgeted with a loop on the sky pirate’s jacket. “Remind me, alright? And thank you. For coming here with me.”
Damn you, Leofard thought, for saying things like that so easily. They would leave for Old Sharlayan soon, and such carefree affection would briefly come to an end. Better make the best of their time before that — wrapping his arm around Moro’a’s shoulder, he drew the Keeper close for another kiss.

FFXIVWrite 2023 DAY 15 - PORTENTOUS
Haurchefant is plagued by a strange dream.
(You have no idea how livid I was when I realized I'd already used the "Sid has a dream about Rhiki dying" thing for Monday's prompt. I wanted to do a continuation of that, but couldn't think of a way to do it without being repetitive I'm not 100% sold on Rhiki and Haurchefant being this close in "canon", since she's already the most stereotypical WoL to ever exist, but this was the only thing I could think of on short notice! Feel free to imagine your WoL in her place if it helps!)
Rating: General Genre: Angst Characters: Haurchefant Greystone, Z'rhiki Irhi (Warrior of Light) Relationships: Haurchefant/Warrior of Light (kind of, if you squint) Word Count: 862 Content Warnings: Mentions of character death
They were just seconds too late. For what, he knew not, but the frantic clanking of their sabatons against tile and the blood pounding in his ears assured him that they had been rushing towards something. The shrinking shadow of something taking flight – a dragon? – and the bloody, fevered sunset was all that welcomed them as they burst through the last archway onto the landing. Too late.
Z’rhiki lunged forward, lance in hand, but even her prodigious leap could not carry her anywhere but the cobblestone streets far below. She cursed loudly, voice hoarse from exertion. He sighed, regret and exhaustion chasing the remaining adrenaline from his body.
But then, something glinted in the fading light as it sung through the air, restarting the frantic pounding of his heart. He cried out Rhiki’s name and charged forward, shield raised.
And once again, was but seconds too late.
The bolt of sizzling energy slammed into the Warrior of Light’s chest with enough force to knock her from her feet, and he arrived only in time to catch her before she could hit the stone floor.
“Rhiki!” He called again, breathlessly, as he came to kneel on the tiles with her in his arms. Even hampered by the glaring sunset and the matte black leather of her armor, his eyes found the ragged wound almost immediately, and his heart sank. He was a knight, a soldier. He knew a fatal wound when he saw one.
He forced himself to believe that there was still a chance. One gloved hand pressed against what it could cover of the wound, and he felt as much as heard her shuddering gasp. “Alphinaud! Lucia!” He yelled the names of anyone he could think of, only to find Alphinaud already crouching beside him and Lucia, one of Aymeric’s arms slung over her shoulder, hovering over him.
The look of shock had faded from Rhiki’s eyes, and she winced feebly in pain. She lapsed into a fit of coughing, and he could hear the blood garbling the sound, just as he felt its wetness seeping through his glove. When she recovered she looked up at him with those large, expressive eyes he so often found himself drawn to. She smiled weakly.
“Sorry, Haurchefant…” She said. Her voice was barely more than a whisper.
He shook his head fiercely. “You’ve nothing to be sorry for, my friend,” he insisted, his voice cracking. Alphinaud had pushed his blood-soaked hand away from the gash, and he instead tangled it in one of hers.
Her smile became tinged with knowing. With what little strength she had left she squeezed his hand.
“Oh no,” he heard Alphinaud breathe.
“C’mon, don’t cry,” she murmured. “You know I hate seeing people cry.” Her other hand reached up as if to wipe away tears, though faltering long before it reached his face, and it was only then that he realized his cheeks were wet with them.
He wanted nothing more than to scream until his throat bled, but he forced himself to smile back down at her, and her own smile broadened, just a fraction. A last, quaking breath left her, and he slowly felt her body go limp in his arms.
“No! No, no, no!” His tears were falling in earnest now, and he buried his face in her soft hair to muffle the sound of his cries. His arms tightened around her. With no one left to comfort, he let himself fall to pieces.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Haurchefant woke with a gasp, eyes opening to find himself twisted in sweat-soaked sheets. His eyes darted wildly about the room until his mind caught up to his body in waking. A dream. Just a dream. He pushed himself up and groped at the sheets next to him, but she wasn’t there.
Of course not. He shouldn’t have expected her to be. She was somewhere in Dravania with Lady Iceheart and the Azure Dragoon – a journey fraught with peril, to be sure, but at least not a stone landing somewhere above Ishgard.
He heaved a few shaky breaths and climbed out of bed, already beginning to reach for his clothing. He felt energized, if no less exhausted. He had spent the past few days on his feet, constantly on the move, shouting orders and joining his troops in their preparations for the oncoming onslaught. He did all that they did, and slept only when the last of them did. He owed them no less. Only when fatigue rendered him entirely useless did he resign himself to bed.
As he dressed, he told himself that the dream had been the product of stress, worry, and sleep-depravation. Perhaps even the strange accommodations played a part – over the years he had become unaccustomed to sleeping in his father’s house, within the walls of the city. He assured himself that his own efforts would be rendered unnecessary when Rhiki breezed back through the city gates, hale and whole, having once again averted their demise. He willed himself to believe that the dream was portentous of nothing but the awkward conversation he was planning on having with the woman upon her return.
He wouldn’t let it be.

FFXIVwrite 2023 - 16 Jerk
The journey that resulted in the defeat of Thordan and his Heavensward had come to an end. The threat of the Ascians Igeyorhm and Lahabrea was no more, and Ishgard had once again become a member of the Eorzea alliance.
Though much work was still left to be done, the danger of Nidhogg once again looming, Steel and the other brave warriors of Bloum were given a bit of time to themselves. She did not question. With Estinien serving as the vessel to the bastard wyrm, it was only a matter of time before things became heated again. She would not squander her vacation.
So to her small apartment in the Shroud she did return, after a quick stop in Gridania to check with her retainers. Steel, after finding their work in order as usual disappeared to the Lavender Beds for what she hoped would be a week of catching up on rest.
She set a pot of tea, using herbs from her personal collection, and went to her desk, apprising the papers she had left before her leaving. As nothing seemed to be dire, she took out her journal and penned the most outstanding of her journeys and life events. The sun had long set by the time she began to feel tired, but alas she let herself rest then and only then.
Steel slept in until well past noon the next day, only bothering to rise when there came a knocking at her door. She jolted away immediate, grabbing for her silken dressing gown and going to see who was calling for her. Could it be that the scions needed her already?
No.
The courier was all smiles, though Steel herself was only half awake while she signed his ledger for the delivery. A basket of flowers. When finally alone again she quickly deposited them on her desk. She needed to get breakfast before she dealt with anything more. Brewing herself a cup of tea took no time at all getting out her breakfast was simple enough. Bread with a bit of herbal butter.
Steel plucked the card from the flowers, finding it empty other thank a quickly scrawled signature.
Skah'to Rahn.
Steel paused mid-sip, finding herself smiling. Though they're gone about their adventures as if naught had happened, she still found herself worrying that she'd overstepped with her Miqo'te friend.
---
"Well, what are you going to do when playing by their rules gets more of our allies hurt?" Skah'to had chidded, and Steel was quiet for a while.
"None of us take on the work without knowledge of the risk Skah'to." Steel replied. There was more she wanted to say, but the ordeal was leaving her mentally frazzled. Surely he realized none of them enjoyed the politics right? Save maybe Alphinaud, the boy seemed all to happy to wag his golden tongue at times.
Skah'to chuffed and paced a bit before taking a seat on the chair nearest him that he'd not acosted, tail still wriggling to and fro. At least he wasn't trying to get back inside. Steel took the small victory, her posture softening just a bit. It was quiet, other than the sound of her armour as it clinked with her movements. She'd leaned against the stoop outside the hut.
They'd spent the rest of their time outside in quiet. Even once Lororito and Dewlala had made to leave, followed by the Raubahn, the traitor Meriel, Pipin and Papashan had made to leave, he didn't look back at them.
Yugiri and Alphinaud apprised them of the situation, Raubahn being reinstated as the General of the Flames. They'd wasted no time in catching up to the others, and going on with their adventurers after that. Once the scheming lalafell was no longer around, it didn't take too long to things to start getting back to how they were, but still it did not sit right with her.
She'd worried about it for a long while. But not anymore.

shout out to Haurchefant for real though because if Deidre hadn’t been comfortable looking stupid in front of him she would have just killed Paulecrain and Grinnaux in that trial by combat based entirely off of the fact that to prove someone guilty the accusers must kill them and not asked for clarification about whether or not it was the same in reverse

you want a better story. who wouldn't? {ffxiv, one sided wolysayle yearning}
Chapter 1: I never liked that ending either
&
Chapter 2: So maybe I wanted to give you something more than a catalog of non-definitive acts
❆fandom: final fantasy xiv, ffxiv
❆characters: Ysayle Dangoulain, named Warriors of Light (Gwendoline, Seraphin, Teodore), elezen OC (Melisande), Hydaelyn
❆relationship: minor wol/wol, past oc/laniaitte, past ysayle/heustienne, heavily referenced wolysayle and ysayle/venat
❆dynamic: gen, implied f/f and m/m
❆rating: m
❆key tags: fix it fic, Ysayle Lives AU, recovery fic, POV Swap (Melisande > Ysayle), flashbacks, character study, Ysayle's mine now so I get to decide how she develops from here on out, Spoilers for late Heavensward and Stormblood
❆content warnings: cursing, implied character death, canon typical existentialism, irreality, grieving, character death, blood and gore typical of injuries, needles, family deaths, fire and related injuries, homophobic Ishgard as a setting
❆chapters: 2/? {ongoing}
❆words: 27,108 {chapter 1: 14,966. chapter 2: 12,142}
❆series: Snow and Dirty Rain {Ysayle Lives AU}
In a hail of bullets, Ysayle Dangoulain fell and this is where it should have ended. The Garleans bring her down, the Warriors of Light continue on, and one in particular remains deeply traumatized for the remainder of the story.
But that's not what happened, and somehow: Lady Iceheart yet lives, thanks to the effort of a dedicated few. ...But is this the land of the living? Or is this just one elongated, cruel joke?
Fix it fic/Ysayle Lives AU that's part of my Snow and Dirty Rain au. Timeline goes over the end of 3.0 to 4.0, and is predominantly in Ysayle's POV (chapter 1 is Melisande, chapter 2 is how things will go). From her recovery, to her building a new life for herself - Ysayle's newfound freedom allows her to explore what's going on in Ala Mhigo while the Warriors of Light are in Doma. A few misadventures, a lot of sapphic yearning - all of this to lead into i had a dream about you.

8 and 18 for the catted girl!
8. Someone my muse never met, but would have loved to. [!!! DARK KNIGHT JOB QUEST SPOILERS !!!]
It took me a few minutes to think of this, but I would have to say the original Fray. The "Fray" you meet in the Brume seems to have a little bit of the real Fray in them, but by the level 50 quests it seems, to me at least, like that's almost entirely gone. I don't know that Rhiki would have loved the experience of meeting the real Fray, because he had the standard Dark Knight chip on his shoulder, so who knows what their real dynamic would have been like, but she would have liked to meet him because he was important to Sid and Rielle, who are important to her. Plus, he probably has some embarrassing stories about Sid that she would love to hear. She still feels somewhat connected to him, despite having never met him, given that the soul stone she uses used to be his. If nothing else, it would be an enlightening experience. [/END SPOILERS] 18. Someone who can always make my muse laugh.
Early in her life, this would probably have been her dad. He was a lighthearted guy and was always making jokes and pulling little pranks. If she wasn't laughing at one of his antics, she was probably laughing at his expense when they got him into trouble. She gets a lot of her playfulness from her father.
Rhiki laughs easily, so there a few people who can usually get a laugh out of her, whether intentionally or not. Sidurgu often makes her laugh, but this is completely unintentional on his part. He thinks he's being serious, and probably doesn't appreciate her laughing at him. She can't help it, though. She just can't help but laugh when he says something corny and dramatic with an entirely straight face. She also thinks it's very funny when he gets flustered and annoyed at her and Rielle's teasing, so there's almost always a good time to be had when he's around.
Urianger also makes her laugh without realizing it, for similar reasons, Rather than by saying something brooding, though, it's usually by applying his archaic speech to something simple or inherently nonsensical. There's something both hilarious and endearing about his earnest attempts to understand some things through an academic lens. They've gotten a bit closer over the course of Endwalker, and during this time she's come to appreciate his sense of humor. He's learned how to catch her completely off-guard with a joke or bit, which makes her laugh all the harder at it. On the intentional side, there's Stephanivien. He has an upbeat personality that makes it hard not to like him and hard to be bummed out in his presence. If it's not his quips that make her laugh, it's his inexhaustible enthusiasm for machinery (and sometimes the mishaps that crop up because of it.)
When Haurchefant was alive, he was also good at making Rhiki laugh. She found his occasional melodramatics endlessly entertaining, and being around him just generally put her in a good mood. Neither of them mind a little mischief here and there, and had fun getting up to trouble together.
Though nothing like his brother, Emmanellain does a fairly good job of making Rhiki laugh, though somewhat like Urianger whether he meant to or not is always a toss-up. While his flippant attitude can be a little aggravating when poorly timed, when the mood is lighter it can make her giggle. And, if he hasn't made her laugh with his wit, he's never more than a few minutes and a few drinks from doing it by making a fool of himself. Between his "lessons" to the ever-patient Honoroit and his bickering with Sicard, being around Emmanellain makes for a good spectator sport.

Why you should play the critically acclaimed MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV, part whatever
Previously, two impassioned “BUT IT'S SO GOOD” posts with very little details. (Part 1, Part 2)
Okay, so, I have previously talked about the themes and the tropes and just that the game is super fun (and did you know you can play the base game + first expansion for free? Because you can) but this time I’m going to try to give a little bit more detail. I’m *mostly* only going to cover characters from A Realm Reborn (shortened to ARR or 2.0) but probably spoilers for later expansions will show up.
(A quick note: Each expansion has the base (x.0) and then 5 patches of content, and they get shortened to those. So ARR runs through 2.0 and 2.55 since the .5 patch is always divided into two. Also, 1.0 no longer exists because it was so awful they literally dropped a moon on it.)
Summary: It is five years after the invading Garlean Empire dropped a moon on us. Except the moon was actually a technological prison created by an ancient civilization that contained a fucking dragon. It was defeated at a great cost, which will be recapped after you start the game. You can watch the super awesome cinematic here!
You arrive in the city of your choice (forest city, pirate city, desert capitalist city, your choice of which does not actually matter other than you get different introductory quest lines so basically pick whatever class you want to start with and/or whichever city you think sounds cool as you can be all the classes eventually) in which you, the adventurer, turn out to be super competent and do a great service to your starting city. Oh, and you are having visions of a giant crystal.
Shockingly, it turns out that you have a power called The Echo which basically means you can get visions of past stuff which is very useful for exposition, and also you are completely immune to tempering (brainwashing) by the primals (gods) of the various beast tribes. Which is good, because the fact that the primals will basically turn anyone who tries to fight them into their worshippers, and their very existence harms the land, so really only people with the Echo can fight them.
Due to your awesomeness, you get recruited to a super secret organization, the Scions of the Seventh Dawn, whose goal is to fight Primals and stop the Garlean Empire. And fight the Ascians, quasi-immortal beings who are secretly manipulating everything so that they can free their God.
And then shit gets real.
For the record, that only explains the first like, 20 levels. There is just SO MUCH to the game, and trying to explain it would be like attempting to sum up some epic fantasy novel series with 15 books and multiple tie-ins.
Short version of where the story goes:
ARR (2.0-2.55, levels 1-50): You become the Warrior of Light and fight Garleans and Primals
Heavensward (3.0-3.55): Time to stop a thousand year war between man and dragons and deal with a corrupt church Stormblood (4.0-4.55): Imperialism is bad, the game. Let’s go free some colonies.
Shadowbringers (5.0-5.55): We’re going to an alternate world to try and stop a disaster and find out the true history of the Ascians
Endwalker (6.0-currently 6.3 as of 1/10/2023): It’s the end of the world as we know it, and I think that hope can triumph over despair
So now that you know the story, let’s talk about the characters! There are loads and loads of characters, and covering all of them would be pretty much impossible, so have the major characters from ARR. I’m not going to give major spoilers for ARR itself, but I am definitely going to reference ends of character arcs because talking about them otherwise is difficult when they get so much character growth. Also I am stealing all these images from (mostly) the ffxiv wiki
You: The Warrior of Light. (usually abbreviated to WoL) Choose between 8 races, and play as many classes as you want Currently there are 19 fighting classes (20 if you count blue mage, which is a limited job that can’t be used in regular content), 3 gathering classes, and 8 crafting classes. The WoL doesn’t get a lot of options for dialogue until 3.0, but the ability to customize is great, and there’s a very strong RP community. Also I absolutely joke that this game is basically my WoL’s harem and I stand by it. (Pictured, all of your character options, female and male.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Scions: Super secret team of nerds who left their homeland because they wanted to try and make the world better. (it’s complicated.)
Tumblr media
Minfilia: Leader of the Scions. Has shitty voice acting, but is basically team mom. She gives you your assignments and has a very strong connection to the mothercrystal you keep seeing.
Tumblr media
Thancred: This is Thancred. You hang out with him if you start in Ul’dah, the desert city. He’s a flirt, former thief, but eventually ends up trying to raise a teenage girl with his boyfriend. He also has a compulsive saving people thing.
Tumblr media
Y’shtola: If you start in Limsa Lominsa, the pirate city, you get to hang out with her. Her hobbies include attempting complicated spells, being smarter than you, calling people out on their bullshit and delivering the best insult in the game. Also she does a Sailor Moon thing. (Okay, I was going to only put in the ARR outfits but frankly her Shadowbringers outfit is great so I’m showing it off.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yda and Papalymo: She’s a ditz who punches things, he’s sarcastic and sets shit on fire. Together, they hang out in Gridania, the forest city.
Tumblr media
Urianger: Speaks in thees and thous and poetry. Was totally in a kinky relationship with a woman who could break him. Gets a massive glowup in Shadowbringers.
Tumblr media
Tataru Taru: The Scion’s secretary, who is possibly going to take over the world eventually, and makes excellent outfits.
Tumblr media
Alphinaud Leveilleur: Ok, so listen, every time I play ARR I spend half of it yelling at Alphinaud to shut the fuck up. Because he has such a great character arc! He starts off as this super entitled 16 year old who thinks that he’s smarter than everyone and that politics is just a game he’s playing. He truly wants to make the world better, he’s just very very full of himself.
He gets *so much better* He gets his break the haughty moment and learns and grows, and gathers a lot of firewood, and learns and grows and also is absolutely dating a super surly dragoon, and I love him.
Alisaie Leveilleur: Alphinaud’s twin sister who mostly doesn’t show up until post 2.0. Her hobbies include dunking on her brother, threatening people with a sword, and generally being awesome. She also has a super strong moral compass and cares a lot for individuals over ideals.

(These are their Endwalker outfits, Alisaie is in red, Alphinaud in blue.)
Allies:
Kan-E-Senna: Gridania’s leader. Older than she looks, has a connection to the Elementals (forest spirits)
Tumblr media
Merlwyb Bloefhiswyn: Limsa’s leader and former Pirate Queen. Very pragmatic. Will absolutely shoot you.
Tumblr media
Raubahn Aldynn: Refugee turned gladiator turned leader of Ul’Dah’s army. One of the richest people in Ul’Dah. Incredibly loyal to the Sultana.
Nanamo Ul Namo: The Sultana. Thinks capitalism is stupid. Wants to serve her people. Occasionally hides in pots, according to Raubahn.
Tumblr media
Haurchefant Greystone: THE BEST BOY. Will make you hot chocolate. Absolutely wants to fuck you.
Tumblr media
Cid: Engineer and last minute rescuer. Is supposed to be 30, so I guess he just went silver fox early or something. Has his own airship.
Tumblr media
The villains: (Gaius in black, Nero in Red. Livia is in white, and the dude with the shields doesn’t actually matter.)
Tumblr media
Gaius van Baelsar: The Big Bad (of ARR.) Wants to know if you believe in Eorzea. Actually gets a redemption arc eventually to rival Zuko from ATLA.
Nero tol Scaeva: Cid’s ex-boyfriend who will literally give an entire speech about their rivalry and how one day he will best him. It’s *great*
Livia: Deserved a better story arc. Luckily, her sister is awesome.
That is… just a sampling of characters. Each class gets its own storyline, so there are characters there! And so many sidequests! I didn’t even talk about Detective Hildibrand!
But hopefully, this has convinced you to try, or at least made you slightly more interested. You can find the free trial here: https://freetrial.finalfantasyxiv.com/na/
