There's a sketch of her floating around if you want to go on a treasure hunt! I don't have time to look for it right now (I am currently in the trunk of a clown car), but I've actually drawn a beta of her design and her big mane

Also note: BB!Goldenflower is part of the Doekin line. Speckletail's perception of herself and her family is tied strongly to being Doestar's niece. This association dies out with Thornclaw in BB!OotS as he's the last one to strongly value this legacy.

They're both proud and honorable, but Lionheart is more calm and patient. He's a Que Sera Sera kind of guy.

Goldenflower is more fond of the expression, "Fortune favors the prepared."

Note to self: Clanmewnize these expressions. Que Sera Sera is notably quite RiverClannish... Golfy's phrase is definitely from early ThunderClan

Not to get too distracted but I recently got this FANTASTIC idea for how to close out Book 3 of BB!DOTC on a bittersweet note, involving The First Boarhunt and Clear Sky being delightfully devious as always. Maybe it would be cool to put that phrase there... anyway.

She had three siblings total, Lionheart, Mistleclaw, and Snowkit. It's really difficult being the last one; family was extremely important to her.

Mistleclaw wasn't even a year out of apprenticeship; you're really considered an ADULT adult after being on your own for a year. Losing her was like losing a sibling who's college-aged. That was to the plague, before Firestar's arrival.

Smallear was openly the father of all four of them, but Goldenflower hesitates to call him Ba. Him and Speckletail had a really toxic on-again off-again thing.

Smallear was closest to Mistleclaw, who coincidentally looked the most like him. Goldenflower is like... "yeah thats what i expected of him, that fish-eared loser"

She's biased in favor of her mother though. Lionheart was more chill with Smallear; not CLOSE but, neutral-positive.

It wasn't entirely Smallear's fault that the relationship kept falling apart though, to be clear. I use toxic in this use very much on purpose, it wasn't abuse, they really cannot get along.

So when Goldenflower eventually picked a mate, she REALLY just wanted a stable lifepartner that would not be like that.

I would describe her relationship with Tigerclaw more in the terms of an "arrangement." Fishing for romantic information from her is VERY funny because she just like. Doesn't "get" romance.

Brambleclaw: "Mom... what did you... like about dad?"

"He was large, we were both very large. And he was a responsible warrior, respected and ambitious. Well... at the time we believed that. And he spoke with great confidence. He had a way of making you feel like you were both safe and powerful by his side."

It will not even click for her that most people don't open the answer to "why did you love x" with "he was tall like me"

She wanted kits and a partner. She doesn't regret the relationship, she regrets what he made her believe.

On Tigerclaw's end, it was mutual. They both liked each other as trusted Clanmates. He was attracted to her and reciprocated when she proposed a mateship, but I don't think he ever really got over Spottedleaf romantically.

Plus, getting into this family was a smart political move. Having Speckletail's approval was VERY useful.

I might stick Goldenflower as Head of Hunting through TNP to early Po3, until she trains a successor, since there's no rush. I have an allegiance list floating around but I can't remember off the top of my head if she's where she should be

She's actually super disappointed in Tawnypelt for her choice. I don't think they ever reconcile this, they're both too proud

So she's kinda iffy on that alliance with ShadowClan. Not to the point of spite, but she does easily believe stereotypes about them.

"A bunch of holdouts of TigerClan and duplicitous fiends over there."

Both Golfy and Tawnp miss each other a lot, but again. Neither one is going to apologize to the other or say the other was even slightly correct.

And Golfy wouldn't accept it if Tawnp even did. She made her choice. They're in different Clans now. She chose her father, who killed Swiftpaw and Lionheart.

And for that, Golfy will not forgive her.

If they ended up in a battle, neither would hold back. They both know this.

I'm really fond of her. She really is Speckletail's daughter and the whole family has a special flavor of pain and pride.

I finally finished Wind! Quick thoughts for now:

Nice character progression for Nightheart. I like how many interactions he has with Squirrelstar in this book because it makes for a great contrast with how he thinks about and behaves around her as compared to when he was a shitty whiny baby man. Love him. Also very funny seeing him have to deal with an apprentice who does something irresponsible without telling him. How the tables turn...

Also nice character progression for Frostpaw. Now that she's confronted the uncomfortable truths, she has to stick her neck out there to make the things she thinks is right happen. Ultimately it's her sheer determination to do this, despite the mocking and lack of belief she encounters, that wins the other cats over. Her lack of belief in herself was the biggest thing she had to overcome and now she has. I've been expecting Froststar since River and I still expect this in the end.

Sunbeam felt like she had a lot more movement last book, but I did like her chapters here still. I did like that she ultimately needed to accept that ThunderClan deserves her loyalty more than Berryheart.

Splashtail is such a funny villain. What a dumbass. MacLeod Andrews went hard on his crazy speech in RiverClan at the end of the book.

Berryheart is gonna be so wicked in the next book, I feel like, and I'm here for it.

Tigerstar being a big Dad man is adorable.

SO MANY CUTE THUNDERCLAN MOMENTS. Cute elders. Cute apprentices. Cute Nightheart and Sunbeam and Bayshine.

Squirrelstar feels like she's avoiding losing her actual character for the sake of being leader, for now anyway. She still feels very much like the Squirrelflight we all knew and loved, and I can't say as much for Firestar and (especially) Bramblestar once they became leader. Remains to be seen if this holds in the next series, but I'm optimistic.

Overall I still really really like A Starless Clan. Feels like a solid top 3 WC series for me, and that could only hope to improve assuming Star sticks the landing.

Rating Warrior Cat Names Pt.3

Mothwing: 1/10 boring. Moths have wings. I get her mixed up with Moth Flight a lot.

Leafpool: 1000/10 shes calm and discovered the moonpool! Leaf suits her medicine cat-ness, which is very important to her story, and helps tie in with Firestar’s quest, which was written after she had her name. Just works so well in-universe.

Jayfeather: 8/10 I like Jay but the fact its to do with the colour of his blind eyes and not his pelt, which is also blue(ish), is ehhhh. Being named for Crowfeather is legit hilarious lol. Accidentally named after his deadbeat dad’s ex-gf.

Hollyleaf: 7/10 Leaf works very well in her connection to leafpool and ironic since she’s the least ok with it. Holly is cute and creates the fandom depiction of her. But im not a fan of them together. If i search a tag for Hollyleaf imma see a lotta leaves and not cats.

Lionblaze: 4/10 Blaze suits him ig but it sounds strange next to dove, jay, leaf, feather ect… Lion works well while he trains with Tigerstar but otherwise, Lionheart is the better Lion-

Gonna start adding some designs notes at the bottom of these :3

Leafpool

- Leafpool takes after her mother Sandstorm more, her cream color is similar to Sandstorm’s pelt and her tabby markings reflect Sandstorm’s as well (the dots under her eyes as well)

-She also takes after her grandpap Redtail and grandmother Nutmeg :3 Her eye shape and the marking around her face resembles Redtail’s and her pelt is like Nutmeg’s

-She does still take after Firestar however, she bares his signature heart chest marking and the markings on her tail and eyes take after his

-The marking at the base of her tail also is loosely leaf shaped

-As for her accessories, Leafpool was adorned with oak leaves and acorns after receiving her full name however she also wears a jay’s feather in honor of her son and after the death of Hollyleaf she began wearing holly as well (The ones in her ear will always be in three to represent her kids)

-The nick on her ear is also from Hollyleaf’s confrontation with her

Squrrielflight

(This will contain spoilers to TBC and ASC but those will be under the cut!!)

-Squirrelflight takes after her dad more, her pelt color, eye and belly markings are taken from bim however she always bares her mother’s eye shape and color as well as the spots under her eyes :3

-She’s short and plump as opposed to Leafpool being tall and more lean and shares a matching hair puff??? on her head with her sister, they also have curls along their front legs

-THE SCAR ON HER FLANK IS SUPPOSED TO BE ON THE RIGHT i just needed to put it on the left for visual purposes,,,

- After surviving the landslide, Squrrielflight realized she had developed a few spots on her pelt that werent there before, perhaps related to her time in Starclan

- She also began wearing a marigold in memory of Leafpool

-When becoming leader, she wore more marigolds and her leader mark is on her left shoulder, one of her Starclan spots formed into a star after receiving her lives

New plan for the Po3 prophecy!

Instead of Jay knowing the full prophecy (which is this au is that “the Kin of Fire and Tiger will hold the power of the stars in their paws”), he only knows part of it. 

He ends up visiting Firestar’s dream, and sees an ancient cat speak to Firestar, this cat tells Fire that the 3 have been born to his daughter, and reminds him that they will hold the power of the stars in their paws. Firestar seems confused by this, asking how its possible, but never stating that the reason why he’s confused is that he thought Squirrelflight’s kits were born from a loner, not a kin of Tigerstar. 

The ancient cat only continues to repeat that they will hold the power of the stars in their paws, until the dream ends. 

This leaves Jay to assume certain things that are not true. Jay assumes that the prophecy is that Firestar’s daughter will birth 3 cats which will hold the power if the stars in their paws, and those three cats are Jay, Falcon, and Holly. 

Due to not knowing all the information, Jay and his siblings don't realize that to be the 3 they would also have to be kin of Tigerstar, and so for most of the books they never learn of their relation to Tiger (and in Holly’s case 0 relation to Tiger). 

They, and Firestar also don't know that Holly isn't the 3rd cat, and the 3rd cat born to Fire’s daughter was Leafpool’s third kit who died almost immediately. 

I think that in this version of events, Firestar assumes that Squirrel used Bramble as her donor for her kits bec she trusts him but doesn't like to talk about it, and Fire’s not going to go snooping into his daughter’s personal biz lol. 

I'm doing this bec, I feel like if they had known the 3 had to be kin of Tiger as well, Jay, Falcon and Holly would definitely snoop and like stalk their mom until they found out who their dad was. And if they did that they would unravel all of the secrets around their birth real fast and ruin the surprise, and we cant have that! 

Also... for the reader, (if this was an actual series) they could assume that the 3′s parents are Squirrelflight and Crowfeather, since it was established that they are mates in the prev arc. But then they would be surprised to learn that Jay and Falcon aren't even Squilf’s kits! And Holly isn't even part of the prophecy!

Ah yes good, and such nice people!

In the first AU, Lionheart offered to sire kits for Frostfur when she wanted some. When Yellowfang protected her kits, Frostfur was grateful, and a little flustered. She got Really Attracted when Yellowfang helped Cinderfur become a warrior. When the fire happened, Frostfur went back for Yellowfang, and they had a sudden love confession when backed into a corner. They escaped when Fireheart showed them a way out. Later, after the Journey, the pair adopt some loner kits, one of which becomes a medicine cat.

In @florida-star AU, Sasha went to Thunderclan when Leopardstar rejected her kits for growing white spots. Firestar’s neighbor Smudge had the same condition, and why would he judge these kits if he treats Bramblepaw and Tawnypaw well? Hawkpaw helps Shrewpaw hunt the pheasant and they catch it together, and Mothpaw becomes medicine cat instead of Leafpaw. Hawk and Spider are drawn together by their caustic humor and acidic jokes, but they do eventually mellow out. Daisy does ask the Hot Leggy Boy to give her kits, so the absent-from-the-picture Rose and Toad have the same dad.

For the @hollyflight7 Hypoparents, Mothwing has the kits, and their existence is written off as Loner Kits. They do change the clans so greatly - medicine cats can have kits, cross-clan relationships approved, new mental health “healer” roles, mediators, and the return of Skyclan - that they seem nothing like before. Destruction can herald great change.

Real question: does Holly ever realize it's not Fire's fault in the 3 are golden/tiger kits AU? For Swiftpaw's death? If anything it's really her dad's and Bluestar's more anyone's? And had Fire been leader Swift would have had his name? (Also I know you probably won't take the AU this far, but who will be the 3 that Skywatcher tell Firestar about? I'm assuming Bramble and Twany will be Leaf's kits now, so are they 2 then Dove...and Fire rounds it up like in cannon?)

Holly does really treasure her mentor-apprentice bond with Firestar and is overall very understanding of the situation in hindsight, yes! She's got more of that classic semi-parental dynamic I see the fandom projecting onto Firestar and Brambleclaw but which I don't personally really like for them. I think it really helps sell it when you split Brambleclaw's arc in half like I did between Hollyleaf, journey cat and future deputy, and Lionblaze, the cat who ran away but came back and conspires with Hawkfrost to rid himself of one of the cats he personally hates most.

I do think Fire would be fairer on Swift, yes. Particularly at a time when he needed all hands on deck I don't see him delaying neither Bright nor Swift, but so that he could have them at his disposal as well as to not burden their mentors with them.

This is definitely post-canon to the AU because the very last thing I want to actually write out for it is the fox trap scene, but I did think about the prophecy of the three and Leafpool's secret prophecy children. To bring it full circle, Tawny and Bramble are indeed Leafpool's. And to bring it even more full circle since Holly and Jay are already mentoring one of their parents each, Squirrelflight and Leafpool respectively, Lionblaze gets to have Bramblepaw.

Dove is indeed the third, and a fourth is not really needed but I suppose it can be Firestar. Whatever.

Anyway, by the end of OotS Tawny and Dove both fuck off to ShadowClan together. Peace and love. <3

If I might ask, how does honor-damming work between clans? For a sire I imagine it’s pretty simple, but if a Tom wanted kits how would he go about getting them from the mother? For example you say you like the idea of Brightheart surrogating for friends from different clans, how does she give them those kits? I imagine people would notice she suddenly has less kits than she birthed, how is their disappearance explained?

I'm actually a firm truther that Mistyfoot, Stonefur, and Brokentail's parentage were all open secrets that several cats figured out. You don't pry when the cats have families and no one is making halfclan claims to them... even when you could connect the dots and say,

"Hey wow uh RiverClan seems to have blue cats the exact same age as Bluefur's lost litter."

or "Brokentail sure does coincidentally have Yellowfang's unique face, the cat that his father Raggedpelt was mates with."

Whitewater was an example of a post-Lake cat who (ironically, considering her role in the WindClan civil war) gives her kittens to someone in another Clan! Torear, the brother of Mudclaw, sire of Whitewater's litter.

And the answer is simple... kittens die all the time. It is not surprising to have an entire litter lost to just not being born right. The number isn't announced right away. Brightheart starts with 4, and 3 vanish. How tragic. How expected. (Truth is that only 1 died, she keeps Dewkit, and the other 2 are now in Shadow and River, with a loving parent who couldn't give birth on their own.)

With Brightheart in particular, I think Cloudtail's definitely in on it too. The first time Brightheart was asked to honor dam, the first thing she probably did was talk to him about it,

"Do you remember Robinflight? From WindClan?"

"Of cOURSE I remember Robinflight, she fills my tunnelbuns with kibble the way i like them. How could I forget her?"

"...Did you know she's barren?"

"What? Really? Jeez..."

"She asked me to stay later at the last gathering, and um... she asked me if I could honor-dam for her. I want to do it, Cloudy, but..."

"...but what? I mean... are you afraid I'll be mad?"

She buries her face into his cloudy chest. That means yes, and also 'I love you.' He kneads his paws on the ground, and thinks deeply for a moment.

"...well... my mom gave me to Firestar, I guess, and, me and him haven't always gotten along... but that's all parents, y'know? What I mean is that it's your choice," he clears his throat and adds, "But we can still have our own kittens right? I want to be a dad. With you. Of our kits." He sniffs, "You get what I mean."

Simply because of the logistics, honor-damming is rarer than honor-siring. But it's important, as the only way that cats who can't give birth can get kittens of their own.

It's also a lot more likely to happen within a clan. Brightheart is a special example.

5. Has fandom ever ruined a pairing for you? Yes but i don't think the warriors fandom has. i don't really ship anything in warriors, i just like art and ships as i come across them.

9. Most disliked character(s)? Why? I can't STAND spottedleaf, and I hate her so much. i'm not even sorry. she hardly had 3 interactions with Firepaw before her death, and then lurks and haunts him for the rest of his life, even intruding on his marriage?? A lot of Firestar's Quest is about him feeling like being mates with Sandstorm is """betraying""" Spottedleaf like?? HELLO?? she just keeps butting in on his life and causing problems (re: telling leafpool to follow her heart and then scolding her for doing just that????) and also when rusty joins thunderclan at approx 6 months, she's 4!!! that's too much, and I usually advocate for leniency when it comes to warrior cats age gaps (because they are cats and it doesnt really matter much. ex: dustpelt and ferncloud is FINE they're like a year apart) but like. holy shit. i'm glad mapleshade perma-killed her so she cant fuck up more shit. i also don't like mapleshade because i think her motivations are stupid, and i don't like graystripe because he's a bad friend and a bad father (not that being a bad dad makes me dislike him, just the particular way he is a bad dad). 19. What is the one thing you hate most about your fandom? Probably the hair-trigger at which everyone attacks each other for the slightest perceived "wrong", but i think that comes with being originally a kids series (the later books were re-categorized to be teen/YA i believe but i may be wrong) like someone has one unpopular opinion and suddenly they are apparently pro-pedo and anti-lesbian or whatever because no one has critical thinking skills here.

bluestar and crookedstar in a forbidden relationship, it produces stonefur, mistyfoot, mosskit (who grows up to be mossflower) and silverstream. they are raised by oakheart and willowbreeze with crookedstar being the best father uncle ever. crookedstar and bluestar having a leader/leader forbidden romance is very fun teehee

and another one- leafpool and squilf drop the three off on the windclan border and they are raised by nightcloud alongside breezepelt. crowfeather is still a shitty dad though lol

The three being raised alongside Breeze via Night and Crow is also just. One of my personal favorites as well… because there’s so much you can do there.

What happens with Lionblaze within a Clan that doesn’t value physical strength? What happens with Jayfeather, a blind warrior in a Clan that values sight and speed? What happens with Hollyleaf, who fell out of love with the most desirable and important position within the Clan? What happens with Breezepelt, who now grows up with siblings to share in his struggles? And, how does the Power of Three prophecy play out, now that Firestar has no idea who it may be talking about - the subjects are in a whole other Clan now, after all…

Some people don't seem to understand that Bramble wasn't upset at the three, he took it out on them (wrongly) because he was upset he had been lied to by the cat he was supposed to be able to trust (by which she proved she didn't trust him.) People also seem to forget Bramble himself had adopted 'siblings' in Feathertail and Stormfur! I'm a psychology major (I'm graduating with my BA this summer so I'd like to think I'm a little qualified to profile and diagnose these fictional meow meows,) in the situation with Squirrel, Leaf and the three, Bramble didn't know who to take his frustrations and anger out on, hence it manifesting on the three, and him being a not-so-great husband to Squirrel. They should have split up, but the Erin's don't understand divorce is a thing ig, it would have been a) much better for them both mentally, and b) it would have provided a new narrative for the story (even if it was a b plot.) Both Squirrel and Bramble (and subsequently Leaf as well but she's a different story I'm not going to get in to rn) are in the wrong. They both did things they shouldn't, I wish people would stop assuming Bramble is just an abuser because he can be (honestly I don't think he even qualifies as an abuser, not even mentally. He and Squirrel fall into the same category of not being able to properly express their emotions without getting angry. Take a look at some of the things Squirrel says to Bramble during TNP and vice versa. These two, in my own opinion, should never have become mates, they fit more as siblings.) And they need to stop calling Squirrelflight petty and childish. These two went through hell as children, Bramble via Tigerstar and that drama (along with likely having PTSD from TNP) and Squirrel dealing with the TNP stuff (again PTSD likely) and then having the burden of others comparing her to Firestar. They both have issues. No one is innocent in this situation, and I just wish people would realize that.

Yes, Bramble absolutely was mad at Squirrel not the 3, and he took his anger out on the three because he is terrible with emotions (and a terrible dad). 

I think that Bramble had every right to be mad at Squirrel for not telling him, he was lied to about his own children, by his mate. That being said, I 100% understand why Squirrel didn’t tell him, Bramble has shown no reason for why Squirrel should trust him, and he has shown to be an easily angered cat who will greatly punish Squirrel for the smallest offences. Squirrel had no reason to believe that Bramble would help her and Leaf if he knew, and since Bramble is in a place of power, telling him could endanger Leaf and Squirrel. Also! Squirrel didn’t even want to take the kits because she didn’t want to lie to Bramble, but Starclan literally told/tricked her into doing it. That doesn’t change that Bramble is allowed to be mad, and hurt by what happened, I really think they should have just stayed divorced after this. 

This is like the one time I can understand, and validate Bramble’s anger toward Squirrel for something, every singe other time they fight he is in the wrong. I hate him sm.

I also want to say that even though its understandable for Bramble to be mad at Squirrel, his actions as a result of his anger are in no way okay. He is terrible to his children, and he is terrible to Squirrel. Even if he is mad at her, he has no right to make her life hell, he is deputy (aka. her boss) and he is shown to use his power to take his anger out on Squirrel many many times. 

I also want to point out that it literally took Bramble wanting to help Shadowclan out of love for Tawnypelt to realize that Squirrelflight did what she did because she loves her sister.... Like BRO why did you think she did it??? out of just feeling like fucking with you??? He’s so stupid, and is so bad at empathy. 

Anywho I do really think that Bramblestar shows some serious signs of being an abuser, and to anyone who wants a good explanation for why a lot of ppl think this watch Moonkitti’s vid Bramblestar is Worse! It gives a really good summary of the Bramble is an abuser argument.
