2. what's your total ao3 wordcount? 552,904 ...that's...both more and less than I was expecting

3. what fandoms do you write for?

...a...lot. Most recently? MDZS/SVSSS, Trigun (er, sorry for the weird stuff), and 13 Sentinels (PLAY 13 SENTINELS). Long term oldies but goodies? Kingdom Hearts, Devil May Cry, Overwatch, Supergiant games, Evangelion

4. what are your top 5 fics by kudos?

Recovery (SVSS, Qijiu --woah, that one pulled ahead in the last few months) Husband x Husband (Hunter x Hunter -- I did this as a yuletide treat to make up for defaulting one year and it's the gift that keeps giving) Minor Delays (SVSS, Qijiu -- wait really?) The Way Back Home (SVSS, Qijiu -- ....Qijiu nation represent. This one doesn't surprise me though, Chira did an amazing comic for it) Hold the Baby (MDZS -- okay this one was just where I was dumping the old twitter threads of a VERY specific Xiyao fix-it AU but you know what, thanks everyone)

5. do you respond to comments?

I try to. If I don't succeed it's often because life kicked my ass.

6. what is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? Probably On Your Six (Reaper & Soldier 76, Overwatch)

7. what's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

This is hard mostly because all of my fic tends to be some kind of fix-it in some way to give someone an obscenely happy ending. If you had to have me narrow it down based on what my most blatant fix-it to some miserable canon character ending was? I'd go with either Happiness Exists (As Long As You Believe in the Possibility) (Qijiu again!), and the Recovery-verse as a whole, or maybe Abstraction White Rose (Revolutionary Girl Utena), because by god I needed Utena and Anthy to kiss and I MADE THEM DO THAT, A LOT.

8. do you get hate on fics?

Xiyao troll hit me once or twice and I got a few cranky dudebros who got mad at me for my Eva fic on a message board once, but nothing all that bad if I'm honest.

9. do you write smut?

...well, I've tried but the plot gets in the way.

10. do you write crossovers? what's the craziest one you have written?

The first that come to mind are the MDZS/TGCF crossovers, but those are the same authors so I don't know that that counts. I DID write a very silly How The Grinch Stole Christmas/Nightmare Before Christmas short once upon an internet. It has since been lost to the great yawning of time and collapse of several social media platforms.

11. have you ever had a fic stolen?

Someone once scraped the awful Naruto fic I wrote when I was like 15 and changed the names to make it a Samurai Champloo fic which, um. Why? But that was pretty damn funny in hindsight.

12. have you ever had a fic translated?

Yes! In Russian, Chinese, and French. And I love every time it happens.

13. have you ever co-written a fic before?

My dayjob these days is cowriting with people. But on the fanfic side -- well, in short, yes. With the usual suspect (that would be Chira) and with my wife, who has once or twice dictated an entire story outline to me which I write in a day.

14. what's your all time favorite ship? Internet, I am old and you cannot expect me to pick one. Utena/Anthy maybe?

15. what is a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

I still need to do the last story for the A Troublesome Charge series which I SWEAR will happen it's just I had a literal baby.

16. what are your writing strengths?

Character voice. I love character voice and I am told I am good at it.

17. what are your writing weaknesses?

Smut.

18. thoughts of writing dialogue in another language in fics?

To be honest if I don't know it I don't try. But I like bilingual writing when it's done well (see also: Everything, Everywhere, All At Once) -- but when it comes to fangirl Japanese or Chinese, I tend to leave that to the experts.

19. first fandom you wrote for?

mumblesBeastWars and thank god that was on a platform that crashed and burned. The Beast Wars fic I wrote for Yuletide was way better.

20. favorite fic you have written?

On Your Six, despite how I feel about Overwatch nowadays, I feel was probably one of the punchiest stories I've ever written. I would have absolutely used this story to audition to write for Blizzard's tie-in novellas if Blizzard hadn't...well, read the news on what happened at Blizzard.

The other one I'd probably say is Ghost Roads in my Troublesome Charge series (MDZS). I just feel like I nailed all the multiple plotlines and characters involved in that one and I'm super proud of it. I'm not tagging anyone because I have anxiety about this kind of thing, but please feel free to do this meme yourself if it crosses your dash!

I read a blog you posted last year where you mentioned you hate 'fix-it' fics, or 'Fix Fics,' as TV Tropes likes to call them.

I haven't read many 'fix-fics' myself, but I've personally had mixed thoughts on the concept. On one hand, if I personally was frustrated by the way a certain story was told, it could be cathartic (in an admittedly selfish way) to see it retold.

But the choice word 'fix' can carry an underlying (or overlying) sense of arrogance. As if the writer is saying to the creator 'what you made is wrong, so I shall make it right.' I guess it depends on the motive for writing; you said all 'fix-fics' come from a place of anger, but I don't think that's necessarily true.

They could sometimes come from a viewer that loves the work they're critiquing, and just...genuinely wants to explore by themselves what it would be like if this or that thing was handled differently. Or from someone who wants to dabble with an existing work so they can build up the confidence to write their own stories.

Perhaps the key is whether or not the writer is using the term 'fix-it' to describe their stories. If that's the case, then maybe it does come from a place of anger, more than anything. But I would like to hear your own thoughts on why you hate 'fix-fics.'

So I think I saw you probably like a blog of mine about why I wouldn't ever rewrite TOH where I brought this up and honestly, from your post in general, I'd say I probably worded it wrong or too strongly. You are correct after all on a LOT of accounts here. The one I really want to highlight is the confidence ones as suddenly you're putting proof to your theory that your version would be better. That can absolutely be helpful for building confidence.

I have two sides of which I should have clarified.

1: I don't approve of LONG fix it fics. Fixing an episode or a chapter of something is one thing. Writing out how to fix an entire series though? It's unfair as far as fixing something goes because you already know all the elements you like in a story, haven't had to experiment with it at all or come up with major plot points on the fly (I feel like I've gotten worse about potentially insinuating that I could have done X better with the suggestions I put out. Creation is always harder than critique after all.) etc. like that. It also just takes a LONG. FUCKING. TIME. And for what purpose? An idea that will only ever be half yours? Which brings me to

2: I don't want to ever do fix it fics, let alone long ones. As an original writer, I would rather take the elements I like from something I find flawed on pull on those threads in a more productive, more challenging environment. To actually make the idea my own rather than constantly having to still constrain myself to parts of something I find so flawed as to consider it in need of an entire rewrite.

I think this is also why I just don't approve of them in general. I would rather that spite, especially if it is on the scale of an entire series rewrite, be channeled into something simply more useful. A fanfic that's redoing large swaths of a work just isn't something that too many are going to need and is honestly going to limit your creativity rather than expand it. That's how I see it at least.

I did probably screw up in the original blog though and not make it clear that when I say I hate writing fix it fics, it's very much so "I don't like WRITING fix it fics." I don't like carrying that sort of rage into a work, especially long term. That's actually an issue for Rich Witch at this point as celebration of TOH made me see threads that had been left fallow by rushing a bit in Amity's arc in S1 (that's how I saw it at the time at least) and that I could expand upon with a perspective shift over to focusing on Amity as the main character. Now that TOH holds so much anger for me, the elements that once inspired it now cause darker feelings and, well... There's a lot of complicated reasons why I'm really afraid Rich Witch is simply dead.

*sigh*

I think, for me, anger and spite are more powerful for blogs like these. Those elements can inspire me but the idea they make has to have joy in it or I just don't find that I commonly get hooked on it. Not when anger is such a short term fuel, at least for me. If it works better for others though, more power to you.

You pull the peak of your cap down a little more, set your ten-minute timer and look over to him, "When you're ready, city boy", you say, finger hovering over the button on the side of your watch. The last ten minutes you'll ever have with him.

It's odd seeing him like this, nervous and unsure. You remind yourself this is better than the alternative, his body at the bottom of the quarry. He clears his throat and takes a sip of his drink, "So you've been to see us before?"

You push the button.

"Yeah, a whole buncha times. Hideout is a nice spot, and your music is pretty good." You smile but keep it small.

There is an awkward silence. It's killing you that he's not filling this time with as much of your Eddie as you would have liked. You try to prompt him.

"You got anythin' else you wanna ask, City? I got school in the mornin'."

"You're still in school?" He says, worry in his voice.

"Yeah, gotta repeat, hopin' to get that cap an' gown this year, though. Grades are good enough so far. What about you?" You tilt your head up from your tea and give him the slightest of smiles. You know you need this to be over, but you don't want your last ten minutes of Eddie to be a version of him, you don't know. You had no issue with him being multi-faceted emotionally, that's what you loved about him, but you wanted your last memory to be a good one, unlike the painful one you'd had up until tonight.

"I work at a record store in the new mall. Due to my injury or something, they gave me an honorary diploma, so," he shrugs and tilts his head shooting that charming, familiar smile, "What's a guy to do?" He lets out a small laugh he isn't sure should be there, so you laugh along to boost him.

"Well, that's one way to do it. Maybe I'll run and bump my head someplace, see if I can get me one of those too, City." You smirk at your tea but can't resist a glance up to see if his smile is still there, and it is, but it's fading.

"You call me City, but you overheard me say my name. Why?" He asks curiously, narrowing his eyes at you. You know this face, he's detected something slightly off, and he's poking at it.

"That's what you are, ain't ya? A city boy?" You say matter of factly, "I dare say the only people in here using their real names are yourself and Angie, an' even her's I ain't sure of"

"So your name isn't Cammy, then?" You detect a slight disappointment in his ask.

You cup your hands around your tea and say gently without thinking, "It is here, sweetheart."

Eddie's eyes flash with something, a wave of recognition, maybe. You quickly try to get hold of the controls of the conversation again and speak whilst turning back to your drink.

"So you don't remember anythin' at all of that week?" You question, trying to get him back on topic.

Without turning your head towards him, you look over, and he hasn't taken his eyes off you, but he's reaching for his pocket, pulling out a piece of paper. Like he found another memory thread just now and is desperately trying to find the end of it again to pull on it, but it's disappeared into the knotted thread mess that is you.

He opens the folded piece of paper and pushes it to the middle of the table, leaning over it. A sadness washes over you. Though neatly folded now, this paper has the crumple lines, stains and wear of one that has been crushed and thrown away in frustration many times. Only to be retrieved again when he had calmed down.

"I've got some things. I remember the trees, water and Hopper. That stuff makes sense where he found me, but then there are a bunch of random things. A song which sort of makes no sense because it's an older one. The taste of spaghetti sauce and, um, a Koala bear" His voice is unsure but hopeful.

The lump in your throat comes back. You know the song and the spaghetti sauce is that day in the kitchen, and the koala is how he jumped into your arms the first night you kissed. You can't tell him that, even when he looks up at you from the paper and his dark eyes capture yours, you want to tell him everything fast, so you can reach over and touch him one more time. Steal him away.

"That's a mighty interestin' list you got there, Eddie. You asked your friends. I'm assumin' you have those, bein' in a band an all?" Finally, you manage to force yourself to ask.

"Yeah, they said there was someone, but they ran away, got in an accident, and it's better for me if I don't remember them. But they're wrong, well at least, my gut tells me they're wrong. I feel like if somewhere in here," Eddie points at his temple, "If I knew she was gone, I wouldn't be so desperate to find her. I feel like I...I loved her"

As he turns to hide his face, a single tear of Eddie's hits the paper, and you make your third mistake this evening. You reach over and rest your hand on his, causing his head to snap around and look at you. You pat his hand and withdraw quickly, "Listen, this country is full of runaways, and your friends have no reason to lie to ya, so why not focus on tryin' to come to terms with the fact she's gone. Then you can start to build yourself back up," but Eddie isn't really listening. Instead, he scribbles something down and folds his list away.

He lifts up his t-shirt and wipes his eyes with it, and you quickly look away and grab a napkin to save him from exposing himself in public, primarily for your own sake, possibly "Here." You motion the napkin towards him, which he takes and pockets it.

"I think I need a little fresh air, and um, I know I've asked so much of you already, but I also know I'm on a timer. So, um, would you mind joining me?" You see a slight narrowing of his eyes when he asks, but you can't tell if it's because he's preparing for rejection or suspicious of something.

You agree and follow him out, making sure to let Angelina know you intend to come back.

He lights up a small pre-rolled joint on exit, and as his foot hits the tarmac of the parking lot, there is a noticeable shift in his energy.

"So, Cammy, you come to see us play often, then?" He asks with the teasing smirk you remember.

"Every week for a while now", you answer honestly.

He hums and nods, then turning and offering you the joint, he asks, "Then how come I've never seen you in there before?"

"Well, technically speakin', you didn't see me in there tonight either. You didn't see me until," You almost say outside, but that would give away you were watching him in his van, "the almost deer incident, right?" And accept the offering, taking a lungful. It's not the inhale that makes your head spin. It's the smell and taste of this strain, maybe, it's so different from the stuff you get where you live now and hand it back.

"True. Ok, how come you raced out of there?" He puts the shared smoke to his lips, and you didn't think it possible to be jealous of an object before. You must be staring too long because you get an extra prompt with a gentle smile, "Well?"

You laugh it off as he hands it back to you, his hand lingers a little longer, touching yours, and you don't know if that is intentional on his part or not. You force out a laugh and hope the nervousness is hidden well enough behind it. "I'm always gettin' shit about my drivin'. You can take a seat with the rest 'em, City."

Your adrenaline is surging. This is the familiar nervous energy that only Eddie inspires in your body. The tingle that runs from where your hands touch is shockwave sized by the time it shoots up your spine, and you flinch away from him. Quickly you take another inhale. Fourth mistake of the night. It's not the strain. It's because it tastes like Eddie. His favourite soda, weed, tobacco, and with him standing so close, the scent of his leather jacket and the mixture of his natural aroma amplified from playing on stage, a high-speed chase, and nerves mixed with his cologne.

"Oh god," you involuntarily let slip from your mouth in a whisper of anguish.

He dips his head down to you, and you quickly thrust the smoke back in his face to block him, "Don't think I'm used to your city stuff. Best to quit whilst I'm ahead."

The fifth mistake is expecting an Eddie that can detect your awkwardness to not play on it. He takes the joint back, but takes it from your fingers with his mouth, and a small shocked gasp falls out of you, making him chuckle deeply.

He shakes his hair out like he just shook the weight of the world off him and says, "You know much about the stars?"

You shrug in response feeling the need to clam up a little because you already gave so much away. You look back into the diner, a safe place, not here in the danger zone of Eddie. You take a look at your watch. Three minutes left.

Eddie starts talking you through a familiar story in the stars, acting out the different parts, and despite your best efforts, he reels you in, hanging on to his every word and movement. He gives you a big smile and a bow when he finishes amid your laughter and applause.

"It was good, Eddie, but you forgot one thing." You say through your giggles.

Eddie steps towards you and lifts his chin up a little to look down onto your face with false pride, "Do enlighten me", he says as his smile spreads further, his softness-filled eyes locking onto yours.

Logic brain has been shut away until further notice. You swallow nervously and manage quietly, "The triangle" you point at the sky as if he isn't sure what you could be talking about.

He tilts his head to the other side but his gaze won't let you go, now you're just a whirlpool of feelings, forgotten ones, that feel like home.

"You're right. I did forget about the triangle, just like you forgot about your accent, city girl." He says slowly and carefully as his words push over the gravel in his voice. Sixth Mistake logic-brain pokes its head around the door to remind you as you stand there wide-eyed at him.

"Take off the hat", he orders as he steps toward you, and all you can do is step backwards away from him and shake your head. He continues the slow pursuit of you until your heel meets nothing, and you stumble backwards, and he swoops in with the save like he always does. One arm around your waist, pulling you to him, "We don't need this anymore", as he flicks at the peak of your hat, so it flies off your head.

His stare intensifies, and you feel the fingers of his free hand tremble against the back of your head. "If I'm wrong, I'm sorry, but I have to know '' his lips crash into yours, and you melt into his arms. You are entirely gone. Everything is Eddie.

With everything destroyed, you let go. Your hands grab fistfuls of Eddie's t-shirt and pull him closer, and he's turning you both towards the nearest wall and almost crushes you against it. His hands move too slowly to save your head from the bump it receives, but it doesn't matter anymore. You feel the tears start running down your face, and though you part for the occasional breath, it is momentary before you are lip-locked again. A thousand kisses spliced with your apologies, his shushes, and both of your tears must happen before your watch beeps.

"No", he murmurs against your mouth as one hand leaves you to remove the offending object from your wrist. It's thrown onto the floor and stomped on repeatedly until it is silenced, but Eddie's lips never leave yours.

Eddie's arms snake around your neck, pulling you away from the wall for a second, and as he jumps to wrap his legs around you, you instinctively catch him.

"So very metal" you smile against his mouth, and he hums back pleasantly, nodding and deepening your kisses.

He isn't tremendously heavy, but after some time, you curse your arms for not being strong enough to continue to hold him up any longer. He must feel your arms shaking and plant his legs on the floor.

You hear him murmur something into your mouth, and you pull back to listen to him. Eddie frowns and returns to kissing like it's his new purpose on this earth. You can't help but smile and genuinely laugh.

Eddie's kiss-swollen mouth pouts with complaint, "Stop this mirth and merriment! I'm trying to kiss you." and opens up his jacket to capture you inside it, peppering kisses all over your mouth.

"I was...just trying to...hear...what you...said" you say running your free hands into his hair, fingertips stroking at his scalp as he groans and leans his head back into them for a few seconds.

"I said, I knew it. I knew it was you" Your hands force him closer to you still, and your mouth on his silences him again.

A slam forces the vision into your head of Eddie getting punched across the jaw and slumping in the chair he's tied to. You realise it was only a car door, but the paranoia creeps up on you quickly, and It immediately breaks the spell.

"Shit!" You scramble for your hat as Eddie tries to pull you back into his arms.

"Where are you going?" he laughs at first thinking it's some kind of playful interaction.

"You don't understand how much trouble you're in right now, Eddie. I'm so sorry. I shouldn't have done that." You shout a little too loudly and curse yourself for making this domino run of mistakes tonight.

"What do you mean, Y/N?" the name that falls out of his mouth is as much a surprise to Eddie as it is to you.

"Eddie, you must let me go before it's too late." You say, walking towards your car and searching your pockets for your keys desperately.

"No. Please. This is right. It's you and me" His hands grab after yours, trying to pull you back to where you were.

It's painful, but you snatch your arm away from him, "You have no idea what I'd give for things to be different, Eddie. What I had to give up to ensure you were safe, and now I've endangered you again because I'm so fucking selfish." Finally, you make it to your car, still searching for your keys, and Eddie is crowding you against your car again, kissing whatever part of your face he can get to like he hopes one of them can send you both back into time to two minutes ago.

You turn to face and push him away with your hands against his chest "Eddie stop, you need to forget about me. Purposefully this time. Move on. Find someone new. We're just kids, ok? It feels like the end of the world, but it's not. We've got our whole lives ahead of us. There are plenty of others out there for us. Paths we can take that don't end up with us being hunted down. We are a big fucking mistake."

"Hunted down? What are you talking about? Please, Y/N, this last year has been torture. I can't take it again. We can go to the cops about whatever it is" You try and avoid his eyes full of tears and pleading.

"Where are my fucking keys?" You growl at yourself, and Eddie tries to scoop his arms around you again. Finally, frustrated with everything, you grab his jacket and shake him hard, "I need you to listen to me. Really listen, ok?" You look into his eyes, making sure you have his undivided attention, "If this group of people, of which I only know one for sure, finds out this happened, or even that I talked to you. Your poor Uncle is gonna find your corpse being dragged out of the Quarry. Do you understand that?"

Eddie's eyes widen, and then he casts his gaze to your hands that are still holding his jacket tightly, and he mutters with a sniffle, "Don't do this to me, please" The words that ring through your head nightly.

"I don't have a choice, Eddie. Please can you understand that? I need you to understand that." Now it's your turn to beg him, "If something happened to you again because of me, I don't know what I'd do." You gesture at the people in the diner window looking at you, and then they quickly look back to their table. "You could be done for already. It could be anyone, Eddie."

"I understand what you said. I do. Even though I don't understand why. But they can't get me if they can't find me. So let's leave here, find somewhere else."

"You aren't listening to me! I'm serious!" You say, letting him go and pacing around the car, exasperated and tearful.

"No, you aren't listening! Look at me. Let me understand all of it, and then let me decide for myself. It's my life. If I wanna take a chance on something. I will"

"And what about your family, your friends, your job Eddie? Are you forgetting about the people who looked after you this year? Are you just gonna leave them in the dust? If you leave and those evil people find out, you can't go back, Eddie. They were not fooling around. Why do you think none of them told you about me, hmmm? They all know me. I sat at the hellfire table with them. They're protecting you from me. That's why."

"I'm not forgetting them!!" He shouts in frustration, "I love my Uncle and friends. Absolutely, but I'm certain I love you too."

You shake your head repeatedly in a no, "Stop this Eddie, stop playing on my heartstrings. That's not fair. People fall in love and break up all the time. This would be no different."

"Yes, it is different!! Because you can recall it all, and I can't. I'm full of these huge feelings, and I don't know where to put them because I don't know where they come from. But you...you know!! Please just give me that. Let me make my own choice."

"But you'll make the wrong choice Eddie."

"How do you know that?"

"Because I only had to see your face like that one time tonight, and I've been making the wrong choices ever since."

"Well, maybe they aren't the wrong ones then. Maybe we're supposed to be together? Did you think about that?"

"If that were true, it wouldn't be this difficult. The fact remains that you don't even know me."

"But it's not us that is making this difficult. It's these mystery people. You can't stand there, look me in the eyes and truthfully say that what just happened here didn't feel right. That it didn't feel like everything finally made sense. That it didn't feel like home. You can't tell me that. I know you can't, and so do you. So stop playing this game because you will lose."

For a moment, you feel like you can. You feel like you could look him in the eye and tell him that lie, that he would believe you, but as soon as you lift your head to look at him, standing there, tear tracks drying on his face, his hands on his hips, his big dark eyes sparkling in the artificial light, the surety drains from you.

You sigh and drop your head in defeat. He claps his hands together.

"See!" He gestures at you with both hands pointed your way.

He jogs around to your side of the car but, this time, keeps his distance, "Tell me all of it. Let me decide. It's not your life. It's mine", he requests gently.

Make it Right Rewatch Ep 1 Stray Thoughts

I have to do it, y'all. I've watched this like four or five times, but thinking so hard about My Only 12% and New's feelings about Love of Siam has me thinking about Make It Right and how that fits in. This project is fun because Cheewin is also involved. Yuan also ended up working on What the Duck.

It's really something how long teens have been uploading constant streams of their lives to the internet now.

Thailand has always done a good job with sibling dynamics.

Oh it's the lesbian friend. She ends up so disappointed in this show. I think it's interesting how there were nods to gay girls early in Thai BL before it all vanished.

The intro song for Season 1 is still in my top 3 for Thai BL. This song absolutely fucking SLAPS!

I think I have plans to get the "Hi my name is" Stickers to do a montage shot for bold catalogue. (But they come in packs of like 400? I think they'll be fun to bring to a party / get together) I want to make 2 more denim jeans. At least a couple basic tees/mockneck tees/ compression t-shirt turtle necks. Maybe work on some other things like hats aswell, I saw these cool hats that were almost repurposed and up cycled looking? They looked so cool. I plan on writing some more for bold catalogue and plan out some more concept visual ideas. Aswell as work on the animation short film --> which is sort of a culmination of everything this year has brought.

Yesterday, I went to break dance with Fran instead of studying. I should've studied!!! But I think I genuinely enjoy the 1 on 1 conversations I have with Fran. They're raw and authentic -- no sugar coats and we both just say what's been on our mind. I hated the sugarcoating people do and much rather someone be genuine. I hate sugarcoating and faking shit aswell! I always knew being genuine was a massive aspect of my life.

Talking to Fran and saying how he wants to go back to school to meet new friends is actually very real. I felt that I've met plenty of people that I genuinely enjoy being around and I hope all my friends have the same feelings aswell. Hopefully when Fran does go back to school he'll meet new friends he'd enjoy being with. Because I was in a situation like him last year! Just work, girlfriend and like 3 friends. It was nice! But, I can see why he wishes to branch out more aswell. I hope the best for these people I've met and hold them dear.

yo should i watch star trek? i've been thinking about watching it but there are so many shows and movies and it's verrry overwhelming.

star trek and ncis have both been in my list of shows to watch for a long time, but i never got around to actually watching them. watching u post about them makes me wanna binge watch them but it's SO overwhelming and idk where to start

Okay, first off, you should ABSOLUTELY watch Star Trek. It's GLORIOUS and absolutely bonkers and thoughtful at the same time. You should also definitely watch NCIS because for a show about murder, it is surprisingly comforting 😂

This post got VERY VERY long because I learned I have a LOT of thoughts about how to watch large amounts of television. Uh, sorry 😂I split it up into NCIS and Star Trek, and then....the Star Trek section is still really long. I hope it's not too much rambling, and that it is possibly helpful?? I feel really honored you asked me about this <3

NCIS

NCIS is pretty simple to binge - I just finished watching it for the first time. Pretty much, I'd run straight through NCIS (the original, not NCIS:LA or NCIS:NO) from season 1-13. A few caveats: I enjoyed s1-s2, but I have some friends who were bothered by a few episodes that were transphobic. I mean it's kind of expected, since the show started in 2003 and some of the characters weren't written as the most accepting people, at least at the start But that doesn't make it easier to watch. If you think that will bother you, I'd be happy to give you a list of episodes to watch/skip. :)

From season 3 onward, I'd really just watch in order (you can skip some of the more gruesome ones *glares at two specific season 3 episodes*). I wandered off sometime around season 13/14 but you can conceivably continue on to season 18 which just finished like a week ago, I think?

Oh, and then you can try the spin-offs. Neither have really been able to hold my attention but you might have better luck!

Star Trek

Okay this one is a lot less simple. Yes, there is SO much Star Trek and asking yourself to binge all of it is very very confusing because....this timeline is a good explanation.

So! There's no right way to binge Trek. I'd definitely start with a TV show. Yes, there are a lot of Star Trek movies and some of them are fabulous, but Star Trek was born on TV and the TV shows are still the bread and butter of the franchise.

There are maybe five good entry points for Star Trek. If you don't like the first one you try, try a different one, since they are similar but every entry in the franchise has a very different feel.

I'd say there are maybe five good entry points for Star Trek:

Star Trek: The Original Series (1966-1969) The classic, very first Star Trek. Kirk, Spock, McCoy. Absolutely ICONIC. Has a few fabulous, classic high-concept sci-fi episodes and a few absolutely HILARIOUS episodes. If you choose this one, be prepared for a show that's VERY 60s in color and style, thinly-veiled Vietnam War allegories, and a lot of William Shatner.

Star Trek: The Next Generation (1987-1994) My personal favorite. Episodic, absolutely brilliant acting, and the RANGE! Literally has a cross-dressing Wild West romp one week and a deep, "machines develop a sense of self-preservation" plot the next. Some of the very best television ever made. The only problem with TNG is it starts reallllly slow. Most people don't really enjoy season 1, and it really doesn't get good until halfway thru season 2. So I'd recommend watching the pilot, then maybe skipping through a few s1 episodes as they strike your fancy. There are a few good ones but also many duds. The nice thing is it's entirely episodic so you can skip without worrying about losing the main thread of the story. After the pilot, I think the only season 1 episode that's crucial for plotty reasons is Skin of Evil (1x23)? Then starting with A Measure of a Man (2x09) I'd watch straight through. The rest of the series is EXCELLENT and quality is, on average, fairly high. (Okay, you can skip the last episode of s2 since it's a clip show. A writer's strike happened. XD) If you choose this route, be prepared for the slow start. And the VERY 80s sci-fi costumes. :)

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine (1993-1999) I'm not a huge DS9 fan, but I really, really enjoy their comedic episodes. If season-long arcs and a more gritty, politick-y feel strikes your fancy, this is the show for you. Again, this one has brilliant acting (most Trek does tbh) and a LOT of range. DS9 is set during wartime, so it's definitely got a different feel. I like it but don't love it, but this show has changed the lives of a lot of people, I think, so it's definitely a good option. I think DS9 starts better than TNG, and this is definitely one you want to watch in order. Seasons 1-3 are a little more episodic and then the series-long war arc begins in earnest.

Star Trek: Voyager (1995-2001) I have an outsized love for Voyager entirely because of fandom. (J/C fandom has a very large overlap with Sam/Jack fandom!) The premise of Voyager is that it's a ragtag crew (half military officers, half rebel terrorists) trying to get home after being flung 70,000 light years from Earth (which will take roughly 70 years for them to traverse). This is the only show with a female captain and it is TERRIFIC. I'm just saying, if you watch this one, be prepared to ship the captain and the first officer. Because...you will. :) Overall quality of Voyager is, IMHO, not quite as high as TNG. It's again more episodic with some occasional multi-episode plot threads. But the two shows have equally strong captains, and Voyager is definitely a more scrappy ship than TNG's Enterprise. The characters change a LOT over seven seasons, so definitely watch Voyager in order. I think this show actually has one of the better pilot episodes of Star Trek, in a franchise full of notoriously poor pilot episodes.

Star Trek: Discovery (2017-) If you want a "modern" show - y'know, fancy effects and such - I'd roll with Discovery. But it's definitely a controversial entry in the franchise, and one of the less consistent ones, IMHO. But I really like the pilot, and also enjoyed season 2, so you could definitely start here if you're looking for something that's more recent and less, y'know, of whatever era it was made.

For people who love SG-1, I'd probably start with TNG or Voyager? I'm not sure. Discovery is a lot flashier but I think you'll probably enjoy the other four more, if you like SG-1. Totally a matter of personal taste, though.

TL;DR

Just binge NCIS from episode 1 onward. If you are very sensitive to transphobia, message me and I'll tell you which season 1 eps to skip.

For Trek: If you love SG-1, I'd start with The Next Generation or Voyager. But honestly, you could start with The Original Series, The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, Voyager, or Discovery, depending on what you like in your TV.

How did you get started with sewing? I've been interested in trying for such a long time, but I feel so overwhelmed by all the supplies and how confusing the patterns seem to me. I also have RSI issues in both hands and it's kept me away from most creative hobbies out of fear, but you seem to do so much even with wrist problems, so maybe...

I got started when I was little by hand sewing plushes from felt and fleece, but I didn't hand sew nicely and didn't follow tutorials very closely so they weren't very good lol. It wasn't until the last couple of years I started taking on bigger projects and tried harder to sew nicely.

Plush patterns are pretty easy to follow as long as the design isn't wild! It's usually pretty obvious what all the pieces are because they're distinctly shaped. Here are two: (1), (2) if you want to try one out. Little stuff like this helps you get used to how your sewing machine works, how to move the fabric, and how pieces fit together.

Once you build up confidence and move to more complicated things it's helpful to look for youtube tutorials for similar projects so you can see how everything connects. I've only made shirts a few times but every time I've had to watch someone put them together to figure out how to do it!!

Also don't think you need to buy a ton of things all at once. Only get what you need for a single project. After a while you'll build up a collection of pins, clips, scissors and threads.

I recommend using a sewing machine if you have RSI. Hand stitching can cause issues if you don't take it really slowly and take lots of breaks. Machine sewing just needs you to guide the fabric under the needle rather than holding, pinching, pushing, and tugging on it so it's much less stressful on your wrists and fingers.

If you're completely new to sewing don't worry about getting a fancy machine, but also don't get one of those "mini", "travel", or "portable" sewing machines that are really tiny. Mini machines are cheap but they're not powerful and they don't give you much room to work your fabric. A regular mechanical (opposed to computerized) sewing machine is about $150 and easy to maintain. Get a good name brand one like something Brother, Singer, Janome, or Babylock. You can easily find youtube videos for how to thread these as well as how to take them apart to oil them or clean jams out of them.

Also, I've found a few things that made sewing significantly easier for me since developing wrist issues. I don't use traditional scissors anymore because the action of opening and closing them kills my wrists. Instead I use a rotary cutter and cutting mat for cutting fabric, and spring loaded snips for cutting thread. Also I have difficulty dealing with pins so I use fabric clips in their place most of the time.

You laid in bed, staring intently at your phone. It sat face down on your bedside table, and although you couldn’t see them, your last two text messages were all that occupied your head.

You turned over, hoping that maybe sleep would come easier if you couldn’t see your phone, and closed your eyes. But it only made things worse. Visions of your two dates filled your head. JJ catching your as you jumped into the water. Topper catching you when you tripped getting out of his car. Staring about the the peaceful night sky with JJ’s arm around you. Watching the sunset with Topper’s hand in yours. The way JJ kissed you. The way Topper held you and cried…

You turned over again and snatched your phone off the nightstand, opening up to your messages.

JJ: Hey I don't know if this is lame to admit or anything, but I can't stop thinking about you. You given it any thought?

Topper: Im sorry for breaking down on you but I meant what it said. I feel like I can breathe around you. Can I see you again soon?

You had yet to respond to either of them. You simply didn't know what to say. When Sarah and Rafe set you up on these dates, never in a million years did you expect to connect so well with both of these boys. And now… You supposed you have a choice to make.

You slept peaceful after sending a simple text to JJ. When the sun peaked through your curtains the next morning gently waking your from your slumber, you felt well-rested and strangely happy. You found yourself humming soft as you made your bed and rifled through your drawers, looking for an outfit.

You threaded you fingers with his and he pulled you closer so that your standing, holding hands, faces only inches from each other.

"Good. Because I've been dying to do this." His lips met yours and he let go of your hands to wrap his arms around your waist, pulling you close. The message was clear. You were his now. Nothing could change that.

Suddenly, your phone lit up with another message. It was Topper.

Please answer me, y/n I need to know if you feel the same way.

You sighed and set your phone down. You didn't want to answer him. The thought of doing so filled you with fear. But why? Because you didn't want to let him down? Or because you didn't want to admit that, despite all the fun you'd had with JJ, your connection with Topper felt like something deeper? As you as you had the thought you knew it to be true. You grabbed your phone and typed out a text to Topper.

You waited a minute or two before you felt your phone buzzing. You pressed the green answer button.

"Y/n?" Topper answered. His voice was somewhat panicked.

"Yes, Topper. Yes, I think I feel the same way. I didn't expect to but… I just can't shake the feeling that you are… You feel like someone I could fall in love with."

this is an outta nowhere question but what are your thoughts on Joker in Smash about a year since he was added? I've heard some folks say the reason the Persona fandom got so toxic is bc Smash got involved and I wanted to know what you thought since you've been in it way longer than P5 and Joker in Smash

Short answer: Yes AND No. 

Long answer (it’s me of course it’s gonna be under the cut due to length 8U):

I’mma be honest, there’s always toxic fans. I know Smash Fans (and Nintendo fans in general) haven’t exactly been peaches, esp when it comes to Twitter (which I think is also an issue atm). But there were toxic fans before than and there’ll be toxic fans later. It’s just life tbh. (dunno where to put this but I’ll put it here: Twitter nowadays is like 2012-2015ish Tumblr, different being Tumblr was a bit more hiveminded and if you disagreed with a popular fandom opinion you.....were kinda bullied let’s be honest so no one could really say their opinions. While Twitter now it’s not a hivemind but instead two sided extremist that you need to choose. Both toxic and similar but just a taaaaad bit different, I’d probs take the two extremist sides over the hivemind if I had to chose tho...even tho Tumblr had better content during that era than Twitter right now imo but that’s in general and not Persona only. 8U Tumblr’s REALLY calmed down since the porn ban I’m not gonna lie, and ironically that’s roughly around the time that Twitter started getting shitty. So like....kinda saying there’s a correlation, I think a lot of toxic tumblr people probably migrated to twitter, and while there’s toxic fans everywhere it feels like a lot gather on Twitter so it really highlights the fandom there sadly). 

From my experience (which is from P4 PS2 era onward, I missed the pre-P4 P3 PS2 era stuff but apparently there were waifu wars which from what I’ve found I probs would’ve just classified as “shipping war” stuff rather than waifu wars....and it seemed liked standard shipping war stuff from back then), the bigger a fandom grows the more fans it obviously attracts, but that also means more toxic fans too. And that’s why I say yes and no for the smash community, yes because they did attract more fans (and their community seems to be a bit toxic atm, like I get expressing your wants to a company and I support that! but the INSTANT you don’t get a specific character announced for the fighter pass and instead of just being like “oh golly darn :(” but instead “***** this place ***** Nintendo you all suck ****** *slur* *slur*” yeah no that’s a little....you gotta take a step back buddy, so yeah I’m sure there’s a bit more toxic fans in that fandom atm but they are also a BIG ASS FANDOM so I’m not surprised), but it’s also just the cause and effect of the fandom getting bigger in general.

It happened when P4 got it’s anime (btw anime fans ya still valid and are a Persona fan, just keep in mind if you wanna talk lore just know you did watch a very abridged version of the game so be aware you might have somethings wrong cause of that.....cause I’ve seen it happen.....DX btw let’s play watchers are also real Persona fans and I’d say even people who just like Joker in Smash are at least Joker fans and that’s ok too enough gate keeping guys DX), it happened when we started getting spinoffs, kinda with the P3 movies (only really cause FeMC fans were salty or P3 fans upset what was cut/changed, but it wasn’t on any toxic level tbh just normal complaints, I think the fact it was a movie instead of an anime bypassed newer fans than with P4/5 animes), it happened when P5 solidified it into the mainstream gaming market (I’ll stand by P4 helped break Persona into it via all the other avenues of mainstream, with P5 finally latching the main series into mainstream games.....I say mainstream cause spinoffs are looking the same as pre mainstream which.....>.> *shrugs* could be better imo), it happened with P5′s anime, and it happened with Smash Bros. And tbh I’m sure it happened or will happen with the Steam community (and Switch/Xbox if it ever goes there too) and P4G (P4 fans go through the same cycle of BS constantly, most of which I believe originated with the anime generation, that it’s hard to tell if there was an uptick or not). And it’ll probs get an uptick again with P6, and then P6′s anime. And maybe manga cause maybe P6 fans like the P5 fans and won’t listen when people say “don’t get attached to the manga name it’s probs not gonna be used so hold off till the anime” but hey let’s have drama for no reason cause we need it. 8U (obvie you can still like the manga name, it’s more for people complaining about name changes or not getting why Atlus just didn’t keep the manga name even tho an explanation is probs within arm’s reach and they were warned beforehand)

*sighs* Sorry back on topic, each time the fandom grows so will toxic fans. Tbh I feel like the phrase “toxic fans” are thrown around a lot. And it’s esp used for only....”haters” it feels like and I don’t think that’s right (cause it can be fans too), it just feels like ANY negativity (even constructive and kept reigned in by certain users) is viewed as that. Like take me, I’m sure I’m probs labeled as a “toxic fan” due to be being a Megaten/Persona fan but disliking P5 and talking shit/calling it out. But I try my damnedest to do that in the appropriate places (ie my personal blog, maybe a confessions place, or a thread/board that’s expressing negatives only OR it’s explaining/expressing pros and cons type of stuff, I find that to be the best because it keeps people who want to vent away from people who want to gush so no war happens, not saying I am perfect or you HAVE to follow this or you are toxic, it’s what I decided to ascribe to and find it works well and good enough and it gives me a better fandom experience). Aka, I don’t go on twitter to someone’s fanart of Yukari or Makoto and trash the character because I’m not a freaking asshole (or in this case a ~toxic fan~). But this also applies to the “fans” as well who will talk about something they like (character/game) but the ONLY  way they can raise it up is by tearing down something else (other character/game), it’s really rude and also toxic as well. Negativity is not inherently bad all the time, and Positivity is not inherently good all the time (with positivity it’s more of giving yourself a break from it rather than saying something positive can be bad at times, tho I’m sure there are times that-that has happened but it’s 2:30 am and I don’t want to think of an example for that). It’s how it’s used/expressed. I see the Twitter community trying to combat the “negativity” by trying to only spread “positivity” and I’m afraid 1) any negative expression, even constructive, will be scorned (I guess I’m afraid of us going back to a hivemind mentality again), but most importantly 2) the people trying to head it are going to be burned out and it’ll hurt them mentally (I do not want it to happen obvie, but I know personally it can wear you down which is why I’m concerned). Don’t get me wrong I love what they are doing/trying to do, but I think we’re generalizing the word “negativity” and “positivity” a bit too much and it’s just raising a few red flags for me (I’m just hoping I’m being paranoid/overanalyzing in this case). 

Uhhh there was one last thing I wanted to address.....Oh yeah gate keeping. I know you asked about Smash but this stuff is kinda related and hey think of it as a history lesson for the Persona fandom (or at least Nusona cause I didn’t have a game system in the 90s ;_; plus wee little me wouldn’t have been able to find P1/2 fandoms back then due to me not really using the internet like I do nowadays till around P3 was probs released). Plus you know how long winded I am so this is kinda what you sign up for, 3 am ramblings of overexplaining~! But gdi I will try to cover all the bases and get my point across in....some fashion. 8U

But yeah, Gatekeeping in relation to the Smash fans, cause I see Persona fans shit on new fans that got into Persona through Smash (I know above I said Joker fans are valid Joker fans rather than Persona fans, but I’m assuming they’ve yet to play/watch Persona and are just aware of Joker and are a fan of him vs the fans who saw Joker and then watch/played the games to get into the fandom. One set is a fan of a character vs the other set got into a franchise because of said character. Like I wouldn’t say I’m a FE fan cause I liked Marth/Roy in SSBM, which is why I have that distinction myself BUT if you wanna call yourself a Persona fan that’s valid, you’re valid, it’s whatever, I don’t really care about the details that much, I just have two categories for convenience). Anyway I don’t think it’s fair to shit on them. Same as I don’t think it’s fair to shit on anime only or manga only fans. Or if they got into the fandom through Nusona (Oldsona is P1/2, Nusona is P3-5 atm). Or Oldsona. Or another Megaten game. 

Maybe it’s cause I came from P4, where it got shit on cause it wasn’t (”dark”) like P3, it wasn’t (”dark”) like Oldsona, it wasn’t “dark” like other Megaten games, it got shit on every way to Sunday for daring to try to have a more lightened mood at times (3 murders happen, we see 3 dead bodies, a 6 yo dies onscreen, we have characters going through intense existential crises, we deal with characters mourning through death as well as other relatable struggles, basically shows our teammates die one by one in the final boss, having a chance to hear Naoto’s death scream on the phone if you don’t stop Adachi, just the “you didn’t save the person” phone calls in general, talks about society’s toxic gender roles and how it can negatively effect a person both to an extreme extent and minor, god forbid they eat an animal cracker to lighten the mood, and this isn’t counting the dark shit that happens in the spinoffs). As if P1/2/3 don’t have comedy, or any other Megaten game, all the demons are freaking weird of course there is comedy. Oh and it also got shit on for going mainstream first, and not even counting that it got shit on for spinoffs (which P3 was included but no P3 gets a pass for some reason), and the fact that it was shit on for not being P5 (before and a little while after P5 came out) because it wasn’t “dark” like P5 (fdksjafajkfljafj P5 has it’s moments, esp with Shiho, tho P4D did it first and went through with it, but seriously each game has it’s own light and dark moments and one isn’t better than the other only cause they have more of one than the other). And....*sigh* let’s just say thank god that I was able to buy other Megaten games right before the flood gates of shit came in, cause I dunno if I would’ve wanted to give it a chance if I had to hear my fav game shit on constantly. I say I dunno cause tbh I was craving more after P4 so badly I still would’ve probs gotten into it regardless of the fandom, I wanted more from the franchise even if it wasn’t 100% like P4. 

But tbh I don’t blame P5 fans, anime fans, or Smash fans for maybe not wanting to get into the rest of the series. I get old fans of whatever feeling like they are...I dunno being invaded? By new people in the fandom. Or their afraid of new fans not fully understanding the franchise (hey guys that’s where you teach people instead of try to passive aggressively try to get them to leave the fandom I dunno maybe make posts to educate instead of trying to push away??? 030). And change is hard and yeah. And maybe you don’t like the new game (keep in mind there’s a diff between saying “*insert* Sux” and “I don’t like *insert* because...” one’s shitting on something and the other is constructive), but hey shitting on the game they like is probs not gonna win them over to your fav game sflkdjafkjafja Educate and be helpful, don’t gatekeep and drive people away. That’s a sure fire way for us to lose this franchise (remember we almost lost Atlus all together, but it was able to get a 2nd life thanks to P4 saving it....tbh probably wouldn’t have ever gotten P5 nor SMTV nor any spinoffs if not for P4′s success with its game and anime, this is both a history lesson and a word of warning since it already almost happened once). 

Tldr; Smash didn’t help but it’s really just the fact the fandom got bigger and bigger fandom means we also end up getting more toxic fans mixed in. Twitter now is basically 2012-2015!Tumblr (diff is Tumblr’s was a hivemind vs Twitter’s now extremist two sides only thing), and Tumblr’s porn ban probably migrated a lot of their toxic fans to Twitter which probs hasn’t helped any fandoms on there. Negativity in general isn’t an issue, it’s if you’re being an outright asshole where it’s an issue. Don’t be an asshole in general, if you need to vent then vent where you need to, if you wanna gush then gush were you need to and without bringing anyone/anything down obvie. You are a Persona fan, regardless of where/how you started. Don’t gatekeep for the love of god, or so help me Jack Frost will sneak into your house and smack you in the face with a snowball (and if he doesn’t then I will.....jk...half jk 8U). The first thought that ran through Tyler’s mind as he gazed at him was that he wasn’t what he’d been expecting. Brendon had made him out to be some huge rebel-y bad boy. He did have a sort of bad boy look, but it was obvious looking at him that he was a softie. His eyes were wide, deep pools of brown reflecting those first day jitters new kids so often got. His hair was, if he was being honest, a bit of a mess. It was dyed a bright red and looked as if the kid had walked through a wind storm or something to get there. Despite the messiness, though, it looked like it’d be kinda nice to run your fingers through. He had a small ring pierced through his nose and his clothing was pretty similar to Tyler’s. Maybe take away the lumberjack part of his aesthetic and replace it with bad boy. Yeah, it was definitely bad boy-emo chic. Over all, he was just…cute.

His second thought was that he’d never hated anyone as much as he hated Joshua Dun in that moment.

The table was completely silent for a long few moments before someone spoke up.
