Tumblr media
It’s set in precannon, around 20 years before the current TL (So like, the 90s) following Kenric and Oralies navigation of Elvish Bureaucracy, classicism and inter-species politics. Also Brant is his brother and Kenric is desperately trying to dispute ability restriction — I’ll put the summary in the replies but if ur interested give it a read

reading about autistic meltdowns is crazy. in retrospect maybe that time i ended up sobbing self isolating and lashing out at people because I couldn't figure out how to set up my laptop the same way it had been before might've been because of The Autism

Thoughts/behaviors that are hella autistic, in hindsight:
Not sending a message/thought in a group chat until someone else does first because I don’t know what the “appropriate” amount of time to wait to switch topics is (especially if the previous topic was sad/heavy or celebratory).
Full-on copying wording and movement from employers/people of authority because anything they did without being judged for got added to the “socially acceptable in this context” list.
Waiting until I was alone to jump up and down, shake, or squeal.
An infinite amount of other things I will continue to notice and recognize.

Need to rant.
I spent an hour and a half working on The Subtle Art of Not Giving a Fuck. I only got 50 pages in. The reading is easy, but I’m annotating a LOT so it’s going super slow.
But I’m annotating a lot to remind myself of all the bullshit, so I can properly roast it. There are some good ideas and points in there but omg he sounds like an insufferable asshole writing a book for himself, ignoring that other people can have totally valid ways of being. Fatphobic undertones, implying there are definitely good values and like, limited ways to correctly prioritize them. I’m now 45% through. I am hate-reading at this point, and I’m torn between:
do I just want to finish it off quickly from here on out? (he has started going into specific things that are negative that he thinks everybody should value highly, versus talking more about his general philosophy)
Or do I want to keep going through slowly making notes ripping him apart.
On one hand: I’m definitely enraged and I kinda want it to end because it’s so irritatingly wrong. On the other hand: i want to give it such a scathing review because of its wrongness that I want to have everything wrong with it detailed meticulously because I enjoy that level of thoroughness.
I’m hoping there will be less to annotate tbh.

Hey, just a thought. If TikTok will literally remove any content of importance if you don't censor the words, what if you used literally any other fucking platform where you didn't have to do that? Like, imagine if a large number of people used a different a platform to get across important messages that didn't remove their content for doing so! Do you think that maybe the people running highly censored platforms might get the picture? Do you think they might decide, oh hey, maybe we shouldn't do this or people won't join? Or do you think that by buying into this shit, other platforms might do the same, and then hardly anywhere can you have an important adult conversation about real issues? Like, come on. I understand it's not always as easy as "vote with your money", but *try*. There's actually nothing saying you have to belong to this or that popular platform. If it's too shit to actually get across an important point without a ridiculous workaround, don't use it.

because twitter is now a monkey brainchip wasteland and tumblr is a dying niche hellsite, there is now a genre of poster who is literally just "i have a tumblr AND a twitter account. and also a tiktok" and they are the only ones bridging this social gap that would otherwise tear society apart i think.
in art history you learn that artistic movements build on what people already understand .and. i think shape language goes all the way back to the earliest art we ever drew and we've just been iterating on it since then. not because it's human nature but because we are all just doing what the guys before us did. and if you look you can find things that most artists/art consumers would've been able to pick apart during that period, but we have to be explicitly told to understand, because the symbolism didn't stick. bare feet in the renaissance. fandom jokes that only make sense if you tuned into a specific cartoon redub stream weekly. and like. neolithic cave paintings!!! they move in flickering fire light! they're animated! but we had to figure that out because the artform got lost over the millenia. but until we did we were sort've Not Understanding that art form. we were missing such a massive piece that it was significantly less comprehensible.
anyways tiktoktumblrtwitter reposters are keeping us from becoming utterly incomprehensible to each other by keeping us up to date on the art-comedy-languages of other websites. and one day we will all be totally incomprehensible to ai art enjoyers . because they are just iterating on what came before without intentional or slow change influenced by their surroundings like we are. so they're gonna be stuck in 2019 forever while we're all using triabgles as an allegory for the death of computers or something

Any tips on the process of finding more obscure lore? (And what I mean by that is interviews or not commonly found lore)
I kinda look up to you and I wanna try to find somethings personally and make my own posts about Splatoon lore.
-Have all the artbooks. Spend too much time poring through them. Some 'findings' i see are stuff the artbooks, and it ends up being surprising for many because many don't have the artbooks!
- think critically. question hearsay. strive for veracity. Is there a source? a lot of misinfo spreads in the splatoon community (and well. Life in general) because people don't do this.
- know how to navigate some Japanese. This one's unfortunately important for finding new stuff since splatoon is a japanese game and most of the content is in that language
-have autism

i really appreciate the vagueness of how willpower is defined by gl comics. its a very broad subject to begin with but in combination with how the series treats authority, you get the impression that to the guardians the term “will” was meant to be understood, or was at least implied, as the ability to enforce your power onto others. like jokes about how the corps are just space cops have been made to hell and back but in the end the green lanterns are, rather blatantly might i add, a direct comparison to the police force. narratively, the members have the same functionality as cops.
so its this line of thinking that then redefines sinestro’s actions (i.e; establishing a dictatorship on his home planet, creating the yellow lanterns, etc.) from someone acting as an outlier to someone who is doing exactly what the guardians wanted him to. after all, if “will” is defined as an extension of your ability to enforce power, then the logical progression of that rhetoric would be to use that power to impose control. the most effective way to do so is through fear, and well, before hal came around, sinestro was considered to be the best gl in the corps. clearly he was doing his job right if he was that effective at keeping the peace.
in contrast, hal and the rest of the human green lanterns operate on the idea that will is the force that’s use to drive themselves forward. in fact, hal’s life can be sufficiently characterized by a distinct lack of the same control that sinestro abides by. that doesn’t mean that he isn’t a cop, because he IS still acting as an enforcer, but that the conflict between him and the guardians is because of this differing set of motivations. hal, rightfully, has his doubts about his role within the corps and how his morality interferes with his duty to it. it’s why he ultimately decides to violently crush the entire system rather than let it continue.
to sum it up, the gl comics are about police brutality and power imbalances. this was blatantly obvious in the 90s and even in the 00s when geoff johns’ was writing for the title and glorifying the corps, his reassurance that the green lanterns were necessary to keep the peace only ended up contributing to the running motifs. all of this to say that the subjectiveness of what “willpower” is defined as contributes a fuckton to how i view the series as a whole.
