no one asked but here r my opinions on the new outfits since mayhaps they are the new Official Outfits??

ichiro - an improvement. i like that it's very true to his og outfit and i think it looks better with just red (rather than the red + blue), plus that weird white undershirt that i always hated is gone <3

jiro - BB YOU LOOK SOOO GOOD it's a p small change but i like it, i like the hoodie more than his prev jacket and i love that they kept his stupid nonfunctional flannel <3 but most importantly the HAIR AHHHH im OBSESSED WITH PONYTAIL JIRO. the only small thing i dislike is the lack of hat </3 rip jiros hat (2017-2023) you will always be remembered

saburo - i liked his overcoat from his prev outfit so this fit is a bit of a downgrade for me :[[ he still looks good though and v true to his character so i dont mind too much

samatoki - oh thank fucking god, an outfit worthy of his hotness. ive been mourning tdd samatoki ever since i knew of him and this blue leather jacket is SUCH a good look, and we didnt even have to sacrifice his tits out shirt. it's perfect

jyuto - good!! he looks hot as he should. the red gloves were iconic and will be missed but overall i think i like his new outfit better, it's a little less stuffy looking

rio - an upgrade bc he looks somewhat more like an integrated member of society and less like a permanent navy seal. i like that he got to keep his camo but also wear some normal-ish clothes

ramuda - this seems...p much the same except the jacket changed and he has a hat now? i think its a hat? i dont like the hat. the jacket looks good and i understand why its yellow but... i miss the turquoise... the turquoise and pink was iconic... :[ overall not bad but miss the old 'fit for sure

gentaro - idk i dont look at gentaro enough to know what exactly changed but he looks fancier. i guess he looks better? idk and idrc sorry

dice - SOOOO GOOD. like took all the essence of his og design but makes him look less homeless bc what was that trench coat. he looks so stylish im obsessed

jakurai - idrc about him but i think this outfit is def an improvement bc theres a bit more flair beyond just 'i am a doctor'

hifumi - i like it! white is a good colour on him

doppo - i think its an upgrade!! he looks a bit more loose and comfortable which i think is like...symbolic maybe. and he just looks better. good for him.

sasara - FUCK THIS WHERE IS HIS HOUNDSTOOTH. IT WAS ICONIC???? give him his full suit back cowards. also the bowtie is not giving. im sorry i just do not like this outfit. only good part is that he matches w rosho (they r in love)

rosho - again. i do not like this pattern. his old pattern was better. also he managed to look nerdy but still hot in his old fit now he kinda leans too much into nerdiness??? idk i just do not like it 😭

rei - i mean...it's okay but he looks so. neutralized. like he got an office job or smth. where's the dramatic fur coat and gold accessories and white pants and the red shirt and-- it's an ok outfit but as an official outfit i feel this is definitely a downgrade

kuko - i really like his new outfit, i LOVE the hoodie thing? i like how it keeps his casual yet buddhist look. his og outfit is also rly good tho and a bit more colourful so...idk, im torn on which i like better

jyushi - it is ... ok. it's pretty similar to his og outfit but i feel the execution is just...slightly worse. i prefer the original :[

hitoya - good! keeps the essence of his character, i mean i feel like it's p much the same except slightly diff jacket and he's draping it over his shoulders now lol. which is definitely a look and further increases his sex appeal-- imo--

14. Which division makes the best music overall in your opinion?

Ooooh I mean…

Okay. So legally (and to no one’s surprise) I am required to answer FP I genuinely love everything they’ve ever touched. Even the songs I didn’t like at first have grown on me and hold deep sentimental value.

Bc I’m too indecisive I literally went and tallied up the songs I listen to constantly and apparently DH is officially my second preferred group, music-wise? Not super surprising tbh. I love MTR and BAT’s stuff too. If I’m listening a song that isn’t FP it’s probably one of those three groups.

15. How much does the music matter when it comes to you liking a division?

This is kind of a tricky question? Bc the story and music are so interwoven in terms of how they’re presented, it’s kind of hard to tell. It definitely matters to a certain point, bc I initially thought MTR was gonna be my favorite group because I liked their music the best upon first listen during the 1st DRB? And vice versa, I didn’t really pay that much attention to MTC bc I didn’t like their sound as much.

I think the other way around is more easy to gage? I think me liking a division directly influenced how much I like their music, bc now even if I’m not absolutely bananas about an FP song at first, it will inevitably grow on me bc I love Them. Like, admittedly Drops was not my favorite song for a long time?? But then 2nd DRB hit and Ramuda became top tier for me and I was like “I’m listening to it forever now”.

16. Do you like their music more(or less) than the division itself sometimes? Which ones?

I think DH falls in this category rn? I LOVE their music, but I feel like I don’t know enough about the group as a whole to know how attached I am to them yet? Like, I love the characters individually and find them interesting, but I don’t think they’ve had the chance to grow as a group the same way that the other divisions have. BAT is kind of the inverse of this. I love them and I’m deeply attached to them but in general I like their group stuff a lot more than their solo pieces.

BB also definitely falls here. Nostalgic bc their music was my introduction to hypmic and I genuinely like a lot of their stuff? But I’m not super invested in their story as of rn

17. Is there a song you hate?

I don’t think I hate any hypmic songs?

1. Uhmmm idk 2021 sometime,,, I don’t remember exactly. I got into it because of a post saying happy birthday ichiro and it was on my to watch list for a while before I caved in and watched the anime

2. The artstyle and the eyes of the characters I thought they were really pretty

3. I’m into MILGRAM which cough music project,,, but hypmic was the first one that put me through multimedia hell so thanks to hypmic for that

4. Doppo definitely. I loved him so much in the beginning. Now to a lesser degree, but I’m still obsessed with him. I did not really care about BB, but I liked Saburo. Now I really like Jiro!! And saburo!! I have personal beef with Ichiro. Same with MTC tbh. Samatoki was pretty so yeah. I liked FP and MTR originally, that hasn’t changed

5. Doppo or Gentarou thanks to the anime probably

6. Kuko and Ramuda. I did not really like Kuko, but then I became a changed man after watching multiple lives (I love his VA) uhmhmhmh I did not really like Ramuda in the beginning but now I think he is super silly and I cherish him dearly. On another note, I did not like DotsuHom in the beginning cause I don’t like change and DotsuHom was a division I didn’t know after I finished the anime. Well. Guess who loves DotsuHom now

Hayami (Jakurai’s VA) started to brag about Nozuyama (Dice’s va, his kouhai like i mention often) bc Nozu is fixing one of his figurine and Hayami is so proud, on the same day as Nozu confirmed coming to Kijima (Hifumi)’s show and that they both ended up announcing it as “my little brother is coming to my show!” “aw my twin!! big brother take care of me!” “of course little brother” and i’m crying in a puddle,

so @ kr when will we see more Dice w/ Matenrou it’s already criminal he shared no real scene with his Senpai, im begging you to let him bound with Manterou,,,,

AsaShin: In this battle, it’s two teams who have tasted defeat before fighting against each other.

AsaShin: Not only that, both teams lost to the same opponent [MTR]! (starts sulking)

Kamio: (in motherly tone) Come on, don’t turn around and sulk.

AsaShin: (turning back around after coaxing) So in order not to be defeated again, FP and MTC will give their all. This time it’s like team Emotion VS team Violence.

Komada: (laughing) That’s true.

Hello slug. If I may ask a question that you can explain from YOUR perspective: why is it ramuda hates the fact he's a puppet for the government yet at the same time expresses glee over manipulating everyone else and women for personal advantages?

I think this has two answers depending on which set of canons you're looking at.

Anime/stageplay canons:

The Ramuda in these canons is primarily fueled by spite. As he states out loud a few times (track 4 and the FP/MTR episode, I think), Ramuda is upset that he lacks any agency and was only created to be destroyed. As a result, he takes out this anger on other people in a sort of, "How would you like it if it was done to you?" fashion. "Why should I show anyone else the respect and opportunities for happiness that were never afforded to me?"

Drama track/manga canon (main canon):

Ramuda is spiteful here as well but to a much lesser extent. Main canon Ramuda doesn't actually appear to enjoy hurting people. While he does act gleeful when he catches Yotsutsuji in the act of calling Jakurai (TDD 12), this strikes me as a show put on for Yotsutsuji's benefit more than anything else, as when left alone, Ramuda looks distressed and remorseful about it (TDD 13). Ramuda also looks remorseful about other manipulative actions (FP/M+ 5) and apologizes for them later on in the most recent drama tracks (When 6 Colors Combine).

It's true that Ramuda does willingly manipulate others, but it doesn't seem to give him much, if any, enjoyment. Rather, Ramuda does so in order to fulfill his missions and stay alive. His survival is his most pressing concern for much of the series, leading him to overlook others' needs and feelings in his own desperation. Recent developments show Ramuda growing and moving past this, which I personally am delighted to see.

HypMic School Headcanons Part 2: MTC, MTR & DH

I genuinely enjoyed this ask! Anyways, this is being split between MTC, MTR and DH with BB, FP and BAT in the previous post. Thank you for your patience!

Samatoki

Favourite Subject: Social Studies - History

Disliked Subject: Maths

Grade: Middle C

Club: Baseball Club

He was genuinely good at baseball, and enjoyed it. However, with his homelife, it meant that he had to skip practice a lot. Nobody knew of his circumstances so they just figured it was a shame that someone who could’ve been a star never ‘put in the effort’.

High school was rough. In between his home life and getting into fights at school, Samatoki didn’t have much going for him. He was bright, but his exams would let him down when the things he had had little time to study for would appear. If he’d had the support at school, maybe he would’ve been someone people actually acknowledged.

Jyuto

Favourite Subject: English

Disliked Subject: Social Studies - Geography

Grade: High A

Club: Student Council. Vice president

A generally dislikeable kid once you got to know him. He was a kiss up to the teachers, but not so bad as to rat someone out on homework. He was a ‘too good for his own good’ kind of person - Jyuto was an annoying know-it-all that hung out with his kind.

He had the general ideas of ‘do well now and get into uni’, but nothing beyond that. Once he hit his final year of high school, Jyuto became severely aware that there was more to life than school and genuinely struggled getting through exams despite how good he was for the entirety of his academic life.

Rio

Favourite Subject: Home Economics

Disliked Subject: English

Grade: High B / Low A

Club: ‘Wilderness Survival Club’

Rio was good at English since it was spoken at home. The class was boring as hell for him because most of the words were just things that he KNEW nobody would use. ‘When do we need to know someone’s favourite animal? We just need to know how to order food, right?’

This kid founded the school’s wilderness club. It was dedicated to wildlife preservation, gardening and anything outdoorsy. Though there were only a few members, they managed to hang with each other even during school holidays.

Jakurai

Favourite Subject: Science - Biology

Disliked Subject: Art

Grade: High A+

Club: Jazz band. Played the piano.

Jakurai does not know how to revise. Things always came to him naturally so he’d only look at material a few times before he knew how to do something. When things got hard, he would be frozen with frustration because he didn’t know how to deal with roadblocks.

This is why art was the worst class for him. He can’t draw, let alone paint. Of course, Jakurai can talk about how beautiful a work is, but if you asked him to draw something, he would politely decline. His art books are the only books ‘missing’ from highschool.

Hifumi

Favourite Subject: Social Studies - History

Disliked Subject: Maths

Grade: Low B

Club: Volunteering. He went to multiple clubs but never stayed in them.

Hifumi’s interests would switch every other week. He ended up volunteering instead because it meant he could meet way more people. However, the club he might’ve stayed in if he had the attention span would be the film club cause he likes talking about them.

He’s always had a magnetism to him. Not exactly the popular kid, but definitely not someone under the radar. Hifumi is friends with everyone, but never invited to parties unless they were REALLY friends.

Doppo

He’s always been good at organising and handling money. Not someone who spoke up too much but would get the job done, Doppo was a valued member of the student council. He didn’t make any decisions, but people appreciated how he would always tie their plans together. He was brought here against his will.

Doppo was definitely known around school. He’s always been a little too reliable and people would often ask for favours. However, nobody would take advantage of him because the people around him would stick up for him if he wasn’t able to vocalise a protest.

He SUCKS with numbers. Sasara freaks out at the thought of algebra, so don’t you dare ask him how much something costs. He only managed to pass because all of his friends banded together to beat the Maths into his head. As soon as exams were over, he forget what numbers were.

No, Sasara was not the ‘funny guy’ in class. Sasara could never call out rude things in the middle of class. He was just the funny guy in people’s friendship groups. He was definitely a social butterfly, but this also meant he didn’t have a solid group of his own.

Rosho

Favourite Subject: Maths

Disliked Subject: Drama

Grade: Middle A+

Club: Student council. Treasurer

Drama class was HELL. Of course he could analyse set texts, but it was almost impossible to gauge an audience reaction! Grades were everything to Rosho at the time, so being in a class like drama meant that he couldn’t guarantee top marks no matter how hard he tried.

Being in the student council was a decision enforced by his mother. It was a role where he wouldn’t do too much but was still seen as important. Out of all things in highschool, it is the experience that Rosho remembers the least.

This entire student council was a bunch of scammers. Their biggest plot was putting vending machines around the school, but they’d pocket all the money from the vending machine in the busiest place. The rest of the money went to the school, but because everything was so well thought out, they never got caught.

He was effortlessly smart. Rei barely revised and only attended study sessions to hang out with people - namely a girl. They were on the same level so they swore that it was only worth studying with each other... and they were lucky that they got more than staying in contact after highschool.

NOTES

Essentially, Samatoki says “serious” here in two different ways - “本気 (honki)” and “マジ (maji)”. The second is considered more like slang, and katakana in general is considered more masculine/aggressive, which could tie into his position as a yakuza as well as reference Chuuoku renaming all the divisions except their own in katakana in order to make them seem less “traditionally” Japanese.

The capitalisation on “Emptiness” here is purposeful, as Ramuda is referencing a specific kind of Chinese constellation by the same name. I guess it’s supposed to be a joke about wishing on stars, and how that’s pointless for him because of what he is?

There’s a specific kind of flower referenced here that I couldn’t fit into the line, called “丁花” or “Daphne”. A specific kind of Daphne, “Daphne odora”, is native to China and was spread to Japan later on. Odora is poisonous to both humans and animals, and rarely produces red berries after flowering. In hanakotoba, the meaning of Odora is “glory/immortality/eternity”.

Yet another AU

Since I need this fem!HypMic AU to explain how I came up with some assorted headcanons I was planning to post, you might as well have it. (It's SFW, because I don't think I'm capable of writing NSFW.)

Notes:

In my head, this genderswap business is brought about by the psychic powers Gentaro has in this AU.

In MTC's case, the exact storyline I have in my head for this is quite clear - Jyuto gets transformed first by Gentaro, then Samatoki is attacked by a (female) psychic-type user who takes issue with an offhanded comment he makes about fem!Jyuto, then Riou takes an attack from Gentaro meant for fem!Samatoki and fem!Jyuto.

In FP's case, Gentaro transforms himself and his teammates out of curiosity.

BB unapologetically took their names from Gotoubun no Hanayome/The Quintessential Quintuplets, so to distinguish themselves, they changed Jiro’s name to “Nina”…That’s all they did...

Notice that I didn't change a lot about the characters - I wanted to keep them as close to their original characterisation and appearance as possible.

There is one character (more?) used to dealing with women who helps their division members out with the swap: BB help each other out, for MTC it's Samatoki (because of Nemu), for FP it's Ramuda and for MTR it's jacket on!Hifumi or Jakurai where necessary. (I don't know about DH and BAT.)

Due to the swap, BB changed their division name temporarily to "Buster Babes".

Ichiro -> Ichika (一花)

An unapologetic bishonen chaser and former delinquent who likes music (particularly rap), but also otome games, anime and manga. Secretly a fujo (?).

Has the shortest hair of the sisters.

Jiro -> Nina (二奈)

Sporty and outgoing, also an anime and manga fan. Unapologetic fujo who shares shipping content with her sister.

For her appearance, see the ARB event where Ichiro and Doppo become temporary hosts.

Saburo -> Miku (美玖)

Unlike her sisters, Miku is just an ordinary riajuu (normie), albeit a smart, smug one. Likes classical music.

Samatoki -> Makoto (誠, which means “sincerity”) (LOL)

A trash-talking, chain-smoking wakagashira of the Katen yakuza with boyish short hair. She wears men’s clothing because women’s stuff doesn’t always fit her and so she only takes interest in vintage men's clothing.

(How a woman got this far in the yakuza…no one will ever know. Maybe she's a dansou wearer...?)

Jyuto -> Touko (桃子, a play on the fact Jyuto was born in spring while also retaining the "to" sound)

A long-haired policewoman, who is never seen without some kind of rabbit accessory, including phone background and phone case (although those don’t really count as “accessories”…?).

Has terrible eyesight. Typically wears pantsuits.

Riou -> Ouka (桜花, the middle name is still "Mason"...like Jyuto's, the name's carrying over sound while changing kanji)

A former navywoman who is constantly seen toting around what appears to be a hunting rifle, despite weapons being outlawed by the H Act.

Hairstyle does not change (pixie cut, probably?). Ouka is significantly shorter than Riou, but tall for a woman her age.

Ramuda -> Kazuko (数子)

A bubbly, short fashion designer who likes to holler at her “oniisans”…much to their consternation…

Might be bi (?) It's hard to tell.

Gentaro -> Akiko (晶子, from Akiko Yosano, much like “Yumeno” may be from Kyuusaku Yumeno)

A demure author, dressed in a school outfit from the Taisho era (red andonbakama, or undivided hakama, as opposed to the black umanori hakama Gentaro wears). Has a design on her hakamashita (the kimono that goes under the hakama), unlike Kuko. Has longer hair than Gentaro does, but only to keep a (red) bow in it.

Constantly procrastinating before deadlines.

Dice -> Nana (奈々, sounds like the Japanese word for "seven")

A gambler who would gamble away everything...but her undergarments.

Jakurai -> Teruko (輝子, meaning “shining child”, playing on both the holy imagery and the “thunder” in "Jakurai")

A genius doctor with a mysterious past. Occasionally ties up her hair when treating patients, but is not known for braiding it. (Therefore, any braiding is probably Kazuko's fault.)

Teruko is shorter than Jakurai, but tall for a woman.

Hifumi -> ひふみ [just change name to hiragana]

A popular hostess at a hostess club. Seen as extremely shy because she can't really handle her coworkers without her jacket.

Hifumi faints upon first seeing the transformation and has a much harder time getting used to the genderswap than the others.

Doppo -> Ayumi (歩) [could also be called Tokiko (国子)] (both are puns on Kunikida Doppo)

A long-haired office lady who has no notable characteristics (see the Delinquent Policeman ARB event for what she looks like).

Sasara -> [no change, because apparently Sasara's name is feminine as it stands]

A manzai comedienne with long hair, pinned up at the back of her head with a large clip. Typically seen wearing gaudy dresses and even gaudier shoes.

Rosho -> Sumire (菫, meaning "violet (flower)", pun on the “azalea” in the surname, since azaleas are normally pink and Rosho is purple-themed)

A maths teacher and former manzai comedienne with Sasara. Looks old-timey, but is actually only 26. Wears round glasses for cosmetic/sentimental reasons.

Rei -> [no change] [could also be called "Reiko" (零子)]

A self-styled “conwoman” and the mother (?) of the Yamada sisters.

Kuko -> 空子 (same pronunciation, one different kanji) [Possible spoiler for the Harmonious Cooperation drama track: if you don't mind overlapping with Hitoya's brother, you could call her "Sora" (空)]

A former delinquent lady, currently in training to be a shrine maiden. Seems like a bit of an airhead (<-pun on her name), but would never be unfaithful to anything she's dedicated to.

Jyushi -> Tsukiko (月子)

A timid visual-kei (dansou-wearing) vocalist who occasionally hams it up with chuunibyou. To the fans of Argo Kushii Gakudan, it’s a secret that she’s a girl…

Hitoya -> Yui (由衣, a pun on 獄衣 gokui (prison uniform))

A money-grubbing lawyer with a bob and a pencil skirt. Seems like a strict obasan, but is actually kind (LOL).

Update: Tweaked various things around to better work with the AU plus to mark a spoiler...Also, I know I changed Kuko's entire raison d'etre, and apparently there are female Japanese Buddhist monks, but...can you see a female Kuko being one? No? Didn't think so. That's why, despite my best efforts, fem!Gentaro and fem!Kuko's outfits overlap to some extent, although a shrine maiden has a haori while a Taisho schoolgirl has a hakamashita.

the album itself has a collective relaxation theme to it and still think it’s neat we have an album with a shared image throughout it!!!!! as for the songs themselves:

cross a line: the song kicked off with some music roots i grew up with and instantly became a fave from that alone lol but then the like, last third of the song after the individual verses hits and i’m going insANE ITS SO GOOD!!!!!

iwbp: not to be confused with iwgp lol no but way to take the vibes back!!!!!!!! if iwgp was the bros practicing their rap cypher in the park, here’s the bros showing off their skills for all of bukuro to see!!!!! there’s a sense of untouchable confidence in the song that feels good to see coming off the back of re:start ;w;

Character based:

Ramuda/Jakurai: General personality and behavior. Ramuda is outgoing and childish while Jakurai is more reserved and mature. Their goals and who they’re trying to save- Ramuda is out to save himself from Chuoku and Jakurai is out to save Yotsutsuji. Similarly, Ramuda tries to reject Chuoku in the 2nd DRB while Jakurai has chosen to work with them. Ramuda’s music is much more upbeat and positive and, in a sense, shallow, while jakurai’s is on a more emotional level and typically darker. Ramuda’s ability relies on causing his opponent to hallucinate while Jakurai’s heals him and his teammates

Gentaro/Hifumi: Personality that relies on clothes (Hifumi’s reliance on his jacket to interact with women and Gentaro’s breakdown when his outfit is insulted), a fairly guarded past, siblings that are important to their plot lines, Hifumi’s willingness to move on from his trauma to the future and Gentaro being tapped in the past by his brother being hospitalized.

Dice/Doppo: Dice’s whole theme of not being chained down and following his gut whereas Doppo is stuck with his job and the weight it has on him (I’d even go as far as to mention their age difference here), might be a stretch but familial issues (Otome with Dice and Doppo and his brother maybe? Again I’m probably reaching too far here). Dice’s voice is much higher in energy while Doppo’s is angry and tired

Differences in bonds:

When you get down to the heart of it, the first DRB was about bonds and it especially shows here. Matenro won against Fling Posse because they didn’t have anything to hide. When it comes to a team you’re going to need equal trust to obtain stability to get stronger but Fling Posse all have their own secrets that were hindering their progress. Sure, they were definitely good friends on the superficial level- but they didn’t have a serious and open connection like Matenro did, which was their downfall. We can compare this to Matenro vs MAD TRIGGER CREW as well, where Matenro was all in it for a common goal whereas MTC had their selfish own objectives that they were working towards.

Group things:

Both groups have...well....los homosexuales. And the leader as the third wheel for them. Their songs are about the same as mentioned with Ramuda and Jakurai. Also this scene

Thoughts on the 9th ep of Hypmic Rhyme Anima. Spoilers beware

As I’m setting everything up, I’m rn buzzing w/ excitement bc wow I’m really excited to see what happens. Since we had a dual MTC and FP episode last time which ended with the announcement, I assume that we’ll have BB vs MTC or MTR vs FP. I hope that the anime can live up to the hype

Oh nice, they kept the same exterior of Chuuoku as the Manga and the games!

EYYYY THEY TOOK A MANGA SCENE AND ANIMATED IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! FUCK YEAH! Shame they didn’t animate the part with Saburo and Jiro attempting to pull Ramuda away from Ichiro. That panel is hilarious [The Panel in Question]

A yes, Ramuda calling Jakurai “Jakurai no jiji” before turning around to be so bright and cheerful is just, hilarious I love it. They cut out the “shame, the old coot’s ears still works” part. The anime’s cutting out all the funny one liners aren’t they

The tension between the divisions were also really nicely crafted. I love how Jakurai had the change in tone when talking to Ichiro and Ramuda

localizing Hifumin to Hifumming is kinda interesting but also super cute. I also love how they really pushed for the fact that Hifumi is high energy and a bit hard to handle by making Ichiro sutter in surprise.

Ah oh no they cut out the part about Jiro calling Doppo a boomer lmao granted thats a translation liberty taken by Slugtranslationshypmic but its so funny!!

HERE COMES MTCCCCCCC!!!!

aw man, they cut out the fact that Rio and DIce know each other and how Jyuto and Doppo know each other too. Samatoki also doesn’t struggle much which is a bit of a disappointment but then again budget restricts so

I love it when Ramuda sticks out his tongue its so cute

They cut out a lot of great interarctions within the manga ugh. such a shame. There’s genuine bonds between the members of TDD who don’t have a grudge against each other and its such a shame that the Anime didn’t showcase this. Hopefully that will be explored later on but theres one panel in the manga that just shows the four of them existing peacefully with one another and that just. slaps so hard. can’t believe it was cut out

Im super disappointed that they cut out a lot of funny and witty one-liners from the manga. Those were the best part of the whole thing

I think its interesting how the shots of the teams are telling of power dynamics and character. The leader is always in the center but BB are more evenly spread as if they’re equals, all facing forward to a same goal. MTC have their backs to each other, trusting each other to not only do their job but also protect each other. FP looks very fanservicy and that really plays well with the party vibes they have going on. Jakurai is the only leader whos not facing the viewer head on but from the side as is Hifumi and Doppo which implies that they’re either really dramatic or have a sense of mystery

Me slightly freaking out about the animation of TDD era Samatoki. but also he looks kinda off which ugh. poor dude, got hit by the bad animation bc apparently the staff there can’t draw slicked back hair Samatoki nicely

Actually the bad animation is kinda rampant here. Saburo’s been hit by the bad animation bug too

But apparently present day Samatoki is as hot as ever in his close ups so i guess they’re putting their money into making Samatoki looking sexy as hell which I can’t complain about

A bit fast paced actually. They aren’t giving very much time in between lines to make room for any breathing room.

aw damn it that sucks they didn’t show off Saburo and Jiro’s skills. I think Saburo could have easily blocked the group attack with his ability and Jiro could have at least knocked one person down. But its a shame that they have time constraints and can’t afford to draw the fight out longer

Oh nice that was such a great twist!! I seriously thought for a second that BB would actually win! Even though I know how the whole thing plays out, I was fooled for a second into thinking that the Anime would go out and change the results to fit their agenda. But no! that was such a great way to pull off a dupe!!

Oh my god that was just. so good I was 100% ready to not like how the songs were but damn they pulled off a banger I don’t have too much to say about it but I found it very interesting how all of BB’s attacks are arcs of electricity with their trio of colors while MTC had a pretty big variety of attacks

HypMic 3rd Western Poll May 2020

Thank you for your participation! These are the final results for the 3rd HypMic unofficial Western fandom poll. After a month of work on this, we’ve got some estimates for general fandom opinions. Do you agree with the general opinions, or disagree? Let us know!

Please click the read more to view our results!

The sample size was limited to 1000 votes, giving a rough indication of the demographic of consumers outside of Japan as well as opinions. The word ‘Western’ has been used, but we have opened this poll to those who were able to read enough English to understand this poll. As such, it is considerably Euro/American-centric.

This poll received the most activity through Twitter, given that the series is most active on that platform. The poll was also posted on Tumblr, Facebook and the HypMic wiki. Commentary has been given on sections of the poll.

Results will be posted on Twitter and Tumblr.

THE CONSUMPTION OF HYPMIC

This section is to be read as ‘What percentage of HypMic English fans have consumed x media?’ The drama tracks and songs have been split by album. Manga bonuses have not been included in the first two questions as at the time of this poll the 2nd Manga songs/dramas were being released so it would be unfair to add them to the poll.

BAT and DH order is written as such due to later stats in the poll where Doppo and Sasara were next to each other but their official colours were too similar so I used the order in Division All Stars songs rather than release order.

Pre-Season: Referring to the start of a battle season.

Battle Season: Referring to the battle/versus songs or dramatracks

1st Manga Bonus Songs: Songs that were included with the manga

DAS Songs: Division All Stars songs - songs that include the whole cast

Merch: Anything that is official HypMic merchandise or has content of HypMic. Plushies, nendoroids, magazines, stickers etc.

Shibuya Division: Fling Posse Drama Tracks and The Loneliness, Tears, and Hope of a Puppet are the most listened to drama tracks of their respective pre-season. Both belong to Fling Posse.

The debut drama tracks of Dotsuitare Honpo (Back Again, Partner) and Bad Ass Temple (The Heart’s Conviction Can’t Be Broken) were listened to less than the other debut drama tracks.

Yokohama Division: MAD TRIGGER CREW Drama Tracks and Chaser from the Past (Matenrou: Before the 2nd DRB) were the least listened to dramatracks of their respective phases of the pre-seasons.

The Champion album has the least listened to drama tracks (Testimony and Me Against the World).

In all cases, the songs have all been listened to more than the respective drama tracks for their album.

The 1st Manga Bonus songs have not been listened as much as the other songs.

This can be due to the fact that these songs cannot be accessed for free legally.

The most listened to songs are the Division All Stars songs with the full cast.

This can be due to the fact that these are the only songs that are available in their entirety on YouTube.

Fling Posse has the most listened to songs of both pre-seasons.

Buster Bros!!! has the least listened to songs of the 1st pre-season and Matenrou has the least listened to songs of the 2nd pre-season.

The Hypnosis Mic -Division Rap Battle- side D.H & B.A.T manga was released as the poll was being conducted, so was not included in this poll.

-Before the Battle- The Dirty Dawg is the most read manga. -Division Rap Battle- side B.B & M.T.C is the least read manga.

By the numbers given for listening to the Spotify radio show, Hypnosis Radio, 80.4% of this sample size has listened to the radio - 19.6% have not listened to Hypnosis Radio.

Around half of the fandom has bought merch - this poll has included plushies, magazines etc. and all from official sources.

DEMOGRAPHICS

Due to the limitations of Google sheets, Africa does not show up on the chart for location as the voter percentage is too small.

The age ranges used are of a similar range to those of Japanese polls. [ARB’s recent survey and the age demographics of Comic ZERO-SUM, publisher of the FP/M manga]

93.5% of voters use translations regardless of Japanese comprehension.

The option for ‘I bought multiple CDs’ refers to both different CDs and multiple of the same CD during the battle season.

Of those who were around for the Battle Season, 15.66% of this group did purchase a battle CD.

CHARACTER VOTING

For comparison, here are the rankings from the previous poll (January 2020), From Japan (October 2018) and the Yumejoshi poll (December 2019)

Names marked in GREEN show an increase in vote percentage. Names in RED show a decrease in vote percentage. Names in BLACK show that their popularity rank has not changed. Names in BLUE show the character has been added to the polls through voter suggestion.

1.2% of votes had a minor character as one of their favourite characters (Ichijiku, Nemu and Yotsutsuji - No other minor characters were suggested).

These polls vary in selection method as our polls looked at the top 3 votes of each character.

From Japan’s method has been stated as a poll but we were unable to find the original. Rio and Jiro’s reason for being unranked is unknown.

The Yumejoshi poll was done by people suggesting their favourite characters for rankings, meaning that it was not entirely based upon HypMic. What is shown here are those who ranked. The ranking in their picking of a 100 is listed against them.

These three polls have varying demographics. From Japan’s spread seems to be more broad, while the Yumejoshi poll is specifically yumejoshi/female. Our polls were taken only for English speakers. In addition to this, there is some bias based on who the poll was spread through followers.

For example, the poll was created by a Gentaro stan and main supporters of this poll are Dotsuitare Honpo stans.

Doppo dominates the polls in both English-speaking and the Japanese fandom.

Characters who received less than 1% of the votes are listed as other: Jiro (0.8%), Rio (0.9%), Rosho (0.2%), Rei (0.4%), Hitoya (0.5%)

The only significant change in division rankings shows that Buster Bros!!! are now more popular than MAD TRIGGER CREW.

Dotsuitare Honpo is the lowest in both the favourite division rankings and perceived lyrical skill.

Debut Songs: Songs that received less than 2% of the votes: New Star (0.3%), G Anthem Y-CITY (0.7%), Meikyuu Heki (1.6%), FACES (1.3%). These songs collectively had 3.9% of the vote.

BATTLE SEASON HOPES

For our final question, we asked “What are your hopes for this battle season? Any plot points, theories etc. that you want to mention.” This question was not required, but we received around 300 answers to this. We condensed the material into basic categories so you don’t have to sort through all 300.

Here are some choice points made about the plot:

What does Samatoki actually think Ichiro did to Nemu?

Could Saburo hack Ramuda?

How will Fling Posse react when they realise what Ramuda’s done to everyone else?

How do the other Ramuda clones interact with each other and everyone else

What if this is all Gentaro’s book?

What if Gentaro’s brother is the original Ramuda clone?

How are Chuo seen by other women?

Would Chuo rig the matches? Especially against Matenrou since their victory

What if they cloned someone else?

What if they reshuffled the divisions? Or added more divisions?

And here are a few funny comments before we go... just cause there were a few silly things added in that made us laugh. Yes, these are all as written.

Ichiro: you have the same voice as Tendo and I find that so funny but also the range of your VA omg, you are such a great big bro, I hope you win next DRB with your bros, you all deserve it, go kick your dad’s ass

Jiro: I need more content of you tbh, you are also a good big bro, even if you fight with Saburo almost all the time you still care about him and I find that adorable, and your smile is one of the most purest things I saw in my life

Saburo: kid, you have power, I wouldn’t like to be your enemy bc you may leak my info, also your voice is nice to hear, I get why most people say you’re the best rapper here

MTC

Samatoki: man, I’m so sad for what happened to your sister AND your friend too, like oof, you may be the one who had it worse, but I know you’re still a softy deep down, keep fighting my dude

Jyuto: you sound so cool every time you rap and from all the English parts of the songs, yours are one of my favorites, I still think you have (or had) something with Samatoki, that cell certainly have some stories about the two

Rio: ngl, I’m curious about trying your cooking, bc it may sound disgusting but I’m always willing to try new things, and Dice seems to enjoy it, also your songs slap

Ramuda: omg, the fact that I started hating you and finding you so annoying, and now I’m liking you more and more even if you did horrible things bc I understand why you did it, I hope you can finally be free from all of this and live your own life, also can you use more your deep voice? Is for…scientific purposes

Gentaro: you’re still not one of my favorites, but I gotta say that I’m very curious about your background, I like your voice, I mean it’s Yamaguchi’s voice, how could I not like it? Jakurai: for the sake of maintaining this as most sfw as possible, I’m just going to say that I love you so much, you’re beautiful, your voice is perfect, discovering what you used to do surprised me so much but that make me love you more, you can whisper to me anytime you want, I don’t mind

Hifumi: aye, my favorite malewife, I thought I would not like you but it turned out to be the contrary, I’m curious about what happened to you and that girl, also your songs are so cool, make me want to dance so badly when I hear them

Doppo: now I understand why you’re the favorite of the majority, you’re basically the definition of mood, you need to rest and someone should kick your boss’ ass, I like your screams, your VA really knows how to channel the stress that you have

Kuko: I love you so much, I love your design, your voice, your personality, your songs, your VA, just everything, I really want to see more of you bc you are a cool character

Sasara: I don’t love you as much as I did before, but you’re still a favorite, even if I don’t understand the majority of your jokes bc I’m not Japanese, I love your voice, it’s perfect for you, your solo song gives clown vibes and I love that

Rosho: so you were the one who had something in common with Gen and not Sasara, it surprised me when I discovered that your voice is the same as him, also why you are basically me? Idk if I should feel terrified about that, but well, you look happy in your new job, so that makes me happy too

Rei: dude, you’re so shady, how did you end up with the other two? I want to see what’s your excuse for abandoning your sons bc I’m very neutral, I like your voice tho, it’s from that yakuza guy and discovering that was so funny, also I’m convinced you have something for Otome, I don’t blame you tho

Hello Slug! Thank you and the resst of the team so much for the hard work! I don’t know if this has been asked but- Which division do you find the most challenging and/or tedious to translate, with both the manga or the drama tracks (doesn’t have to be the work you do for the blog! like when you first skim through the media)

What a good question. I don't actually listen to the drama tracks most of the time since watching/listening to things isn't my cup of tea, but I think for the manga, it's MTC. This isn't because I dislike them at all, but their subject matter often contains information I'm not super solid on (law enforcement, criminal matters, military terminology, etc) and because I do feel a little shaky writing Juuto and Riou. I guess from least to most challenging:

Fling Posse - Easy. I could do this in my sleep, and I have. I got put on anesthesia once for a medical procedure and dreamed I was TL'ing FP/M, thus accidentally forshadowing Yotstsuji by waking up from a medically induced coma to wonder, "Where did Ramuda go?" Silly anecdote aside, their voices come super easily to me, and I can pretty much figure out what they'd say in any given situation.

Matenrou or Bad Ass Temple - I think by virtue of being in FP/M and thus in close proximity to Fling Posse makes MTR easy to write for me. Kuukou, Juushi, and Hitoya are easy af to write for me in terms of their voices, but they do tend to talk about some topics I'm not familiar with (Buddhism for Kuukou, law for Hitoya, absolute nonsense for Juushi), so they're on the same level as MTR for now.

Buster Bros - They're pretty simple. There's not much to say about them.

Dotsuitare Hompo - Roshou and Sasara have accents which can make things a little difficult, but it's not too bad. I'm pretty used to it right now. Rei's conversations with Otome are AWFUL for me, because I'm lacking any of the context needed to ensure I'm putting pronouns, dropped objects, or dropped subjects in the correct spot.

Mad Trigger Crew - Again, the subject matter and the lack of familiarity with them makes it tricky. I think I'm getting better at it, though. Samatoki's second nature for me now since he shows up so much in other manga.
