Monday, October 10: Rising Steel, "The Watcher"
Rising Steel had been workshopping their sound for four years by the time they put out their first full-length, and Return of the Warlord showed they had a firm grasp on what they were aiming for.  “The Watcher” was energetic trad metal of a reasonably high order, with the French act hitting the requisite beats and charging forth with aggression and hooks.  The upshot to that was there wasn’t anything new or exciting happening here, but that wasn’t what Rising Steel was aiming for anyway, so in the end “The Watcher” did its thing reasonably well and that was enough for everyone.

"The Tears of Rowena", in which the bass player of the band gets a chance to shine on vocals as well, and we get to hear a KoH song with female lead singing for a change =) My favourite from the EP! It starts as a ballad, then gets progressively more large and dramatic.

Note
do you listen to eths? :D
Thanks for the ask !
Yes I do, since a pretty long time actually.
My uncle told me about the band when I began to listen to jinjer (because of the female singer). I was about 11-12 going to middle school with that music. It was really cool to find a metal band with a girl who sings and screams like her in your language :).

Gorod - The Orb (2023)
The French tech death legends return with a powerful new offering
Tumblr media
For the better part of two decades France’s Gorod have carved their own niche into technical and progressive death metal. When last we heard them on 2018 Aethra, Gorod was pushing the boundaries of what the genre could produce in terms of both technical virtuosity and expansive songwriting, on The Orb they prove that they have nothing to prove to anyone as they are the kings of modern prog death.

Monday, January 15: Born Again, "Strike with Power"
“Strike with Power” was an appropriately grimy and swaggering rumbler and tumbler from France’s Born Again, playing like both an homage and memorial to Lemmy.  Everything felt sweaty, from the sleazy riffing to Thierry’s sandpaper gurgle.  It was exactly what many of us needed to hear shortly after Lemmy’s passing, and even if “Strike with Power” didn’t exactly present Born Again as a major force, it was still enough fun to justify their existence.

DELUGE are sad because this team-building wilderness retreat is not going to plan.
No one wants to be the first to say it, but they're lost. The whole idea was to get off the grid, step off the social media treadmill, reconnect with nature and come up with ideas for the next album.
Turns out its really hard to read a map when there aren't any street names on it. The camp is somewhere around here, surely. It's starting to get dark, no one has a warm jacket, and there's no toilet paper. How long can anyone be expected to just hold it in? Which leaves are safe to wipe with? How has everything become so insanitary?
Sad metal is sad. And clenching.
