True North | Edward Elric
Tumblr media
pairing: edward elric x gn!reader
summary: ed has thoughts about his soulmate. Soulmate AU, fluff/angst.
word count: 1.5k
a/n: instead of doing my English assignment (which is the same amount of words, mind you), I decided to do this. First fic for the FMA fandom (finally)! Please enjoy <3
Tumblr media
Ed could be considered the perfect example of a man of science. After all, despite all his loud and often-inflammatory (to his poor brother’s lament) proclamations against God, he treated science, specifically Alchemy, as a sort of religion itself — he knelt at its altars (or the arrays) and clasped his hands together “in prayer” to make miracles happen. Miracles that were completely logical and comprehensible to him, regardless of their complexity or intricacy.
But one thing still baffled him: one thing that was proven and real, and yet had no scientific basis whatsoever.
The soulmate bond.
Plenty of alchemists have been trying to figure it out for centuries. What makes one seek out their so-called “one true love”? What causes the tug, the force of which increased every passing year after one’s 15th birthday, or the closer you were to that person? What are the deciding factors as to one’s soulmate? These were questions that were slaved over, entire lives spent trying to puzzle out, volumes upon volumes of journals and articles dedicated to the phenomenon; and yet, there was no conclusive answer.
He didn’t like not having answers.
He especially didn’t like how crazy it drove his little brother.
“But isn’t it wonderful to think about, Brother?” He bites back a groan, but still rolls his eyes violently as Al started on another rant about the phenomenon. “A tangible link to the person you’re fated to be with!”
“Yeah, it’s a real doozy.” Ed mumbles, rolling his eyes. “Can we maybe get back to our research?”
Al sighs, and even though he can’t see it, he knows the brat’s shooting him that look — “Why are you so pig-headed, Brother?”, he can hear his innocent little voice.
“Brother…” Al starts off, armor creaking as he shifts behind him. “Haven’t you gotten your soulmate link yet?”
Ed stiffens, page in mid-turn.
Alphonse had been kind enough not to ask, but he’s been expecting the kid to pop the question for weeks now. After all, there was no one more romantic than his little brother; that much was obvious from the novels he snuck around and hid from him.
(And who could have given him those novels except-)
He shakes his head, knocking the thoughts of that person out as well.
“Sorry to disappoint, bud.” He sounds more confident than he feels, that eternal pressure tugging behind his sternum again. “Do me a favor and go through that pile over there, okay-?”
“And you call the Colonel a slavedriver.” A dulcet voice tsks behind him and he stiffens again.
Alphonse doesn’t notice, too caught up in greeting you, clambering up with a delighted call of your name.
The pressure burns now, causing a tremendous aching that makes him squeeze his eyes shut to push past it.
It just had to be you, didn’t it?
He flashes a smile over his shoulder, lifting his hand in a slight wave before going back to his research. Another person might be offended, but of course you aren’t.
You’re an understanding person, after all, who (as a part-time employee) sees all types in this library that the Elrics put up shop in for days at a time.
You’re a sweet person, who smiles gently when you not-so-subtly threaten to kick them out if they don’t take care of themselves.
It’s not that surprising it’s you.
For a little while, he thought it was Winry, as his heart kept tugging endlessly towards the direction in which the train to Resembool always ran.
It’s not until a month after his birthday that you returned, recounting your hometown visit (only a town over from where he grew up), and his chest almost exploded as you walked in, that he realized who his soulmate was.
There could have been worse soulmates, he thought as he watched you speak to Alphonse over his shoulder, not nearly as sly as he wished to be.
You and Al were such great friends — sure, it pissed him off a little, doubly jealous as both of you took up so much of the other’s attention — but it would’ve devastated him if you guys couldn’t get along.
You weren’t difficult on the eyes either — but that could have been the effect of his feelings or the soulmate bond, because though you were the most gorgeous thing he ever laid eyes on, he knew logically that you couldn’t have been the prettiest person in the world… but it sure did feel like it, though.
You were pretty smart — of course, he wouldn’t have cared if you weren’t, not everyone could be the prodigies he and his brother were, but he liked that you could follow along with the basics of what he was saying… even if you were completely uninterested in alchemy.
Which brought him to perhaps your most important quality, your patience. You sat there, day in and day out, listening to his rants and rambles even when it got to the point that common courtesy would have allowed you to flip him off and walk away.
And you just watched him from under Alphonse’s arm with gentle eyes, even though you both knew you were each other’s soulmates.
“Before I forget,” You interrupt Al, looking apologetic. “That new book you were asking about-“
“The one with the-?!” Al stops abruptly, snapping to look at Ed — who, in a moment of utter grace, flips around hard enough to bang both his elbow and his knee on the table.
But the pain and embarrassment might have been worth it to hear your laugh, loud and snorting and musical to his ears.
“I’ll go pick it up right now.” Al whispers way too loud, making you snicker. “Go distract Brother.”
“You got it!” You whisper just as loud, and Al giggles before sneaking off.
Ed bites the inside of his cheek, trying to will his cheeks back to their normal color when you plop down next to him, leaning your head on your palm.
“You ever gonna tell Alphonse? Or even make a move on me?” You were blunt too, awesomely to-the-point even to military officials like State Alchemists. Even Mustang went silent that one time you saw him berating your soulmate and stepped in, asking him about a book that was considerably overdue. He walked away with his chin held high, yet trembling under the disapproving glare of the Lieutenant.
Ed sighs. He knows you deserve better than him. He’s not unaware of how painful this if for you — it’s just as bad for him. He was never interested in romance or soulmates beyond a few discussions between the brothers and Winry about what they wanted their soulmates to be like… which usually ended with Alphonse rolling his eyes and Winry declaring that he would die alone.
He remembers declaring that he would be fine if he never had a soulmate. After all, his mom and that tall, bearded jerk who fathered him were soulmates. The stories their mother told the boys, twinkly-eyes and nostalgic, were what rooted their views on the concept: Alphonse yearned for it, deeply, and Ed grew bitter about it, understanding that even soulmates could ditch you and your two kids.
Until he met you, and suddenly he wanted… more. He wanted to try, to learn, for you. He knew you deserved so much, and even though he wasn’t sure he could give them to you, he wanted so bad to try. He was overcome with guilt and longing every time he saw your beautiful eyes.
But there was another guilt, a greater guilt and responsibility that came first. He mumbled your name forlornly, wishing so bad that he could say it the way he wanted to.
“I have to focus on this first. You know-“
“I know, I know.” You nod, but your eyes at downcast now, and he hates himself so much more now. “It would be nice to be acknowledged, though.”
He leans forward, putting his hand over yours.
You gasp; Ed’s not one to initiate physical contact, having jumped away the first time your skin touched his. The intense look in his eyes as they fix on your face doesn’t help, either.
“I’m gonna do right by you.” He swears right then and there, in his sacred place of worship, surrounded by the greatest works on Alchemy. “I’ll get mine and Al’s bodies back, and I’ll come find you.”
“Yeah?” You breathe out, eloquence stolen from you by his determination.
“Yeah.” He nods, squeezing your hand, a small smile curling up his lips. “I’ll take you to that café you like. It’ll be nice.”
A sudden urge to take it back, to pick another destination you might like better throws him; a café, how dumb was that?! You went there all the time! He couldn’t think of anything better than that?!
But you surprise him, laughing and biting your lip.
“Sounds great.” You say, completely genuine. At the sound of heavy footsteps, you rise, readying yourself to take your leave.
As you round the bookshelf that obscures his workspace from the rest of the world however, you stop for a moment, looking back.
“And once you’re done, you know how to find me.”
And you go, with a cute smile on your face.
And his heart tugs.

Ok hear me out: Spartans with a reader who has nicknames for them that, to outsiders looking in, seem like insults.
Examples: Four-Eyes for Linda, Robocop for Kat, or Tin Man for John.
Oh, love this so much — nicknames are already so cute and intimate, but add insulting nicknames 🥰🥰
lmao, all kidding aside, the Spartans would probably really appreciate the nicknames you give them, especially if they’re kinda rude, because it means you trust and know them well enough to be like “yeah, this shouldn’t upset them” and that makes them feel so seen. Also, these are people who grew up with a ton of other children in a military setting, so anything you’re calling them, they’ve been called worse before they even ate breakfast most days.
It’s a travesty I haven’t written for Kat yet, so thank you @aiitheoutsinfree; hope you enjoy this! If y’all want me to do a part 2 with other Spartans, please REQUEST!
Love your feedback, and also thinking of starting a Halo taglist — would anyone be interested?
Tumblr media
John isn’t expecting it when you call him Tin Man — it’s usually something offensive or derogatory, tossed at his face by angry or anxious colleagues or enemies. But the way you say it, with adoration dripping from your tone as you stare at him with hearts in your eyes (and who wouldn’t???), just makes him hide a smile, same as he does when Kelly, Fred or Linda try to rile him up with habits from their shared and cherished childhood.
He doesn’t really care if other people hear you say it: he trusts you to know when the situation is stable or intimate enough for you to use such a nickname. If you do end up using it in a situation where it might undermine his authority (if it’s even possible), he’ll let it slide and will later take you aside, explaining why he doesn’t want you to do that again and asks you not to. He doesn’t really care if it’s bunch of marines because your banter actually humanizes him, and people are a little more at ease with him.
They’re still way too scared to use it though.
Linda actually laughs when you call her Four-Eyes. She’s well aware of the… oddness of her helmet’s design — Kelly has made it vividly and loudly clear, and Fred’s flabbergasted stare when she first donned it was more than she could ask for. But since she’s Linda and it helps her, the Sniper Goddess, no one questions her and she doesn’t care even if they would. And yet, the fact that you would look at arguably the scariest Spartan (John concurs wholeheartedly, unaware of how anyone could confuse him for her birthright and miraculous power in the post), and call her something a child would… it warms her heart.
You can call her this whenever, she will literally not care at all. Other people freak out and like try to chastise you, but they get glared at until they go away like that scene in The Office where Jim yells at Toby, and he’s just like “what did I do??”
Mere mortals will never understand 😼 She will also gently tease you back, nothing too bad or obvious.
Okay, so Kat might be the only one who pushes back at the nickname. As one of the last surviving members of Beta Company, she goes on the defensive easily — this isn’t because she doesn’t trust you, but her initial instinct is always that people are against her. However, she will realise that you’re not trying to belittle or insult her, and will warm up to it. That being said, she will give way better than she gets, so be prepared for that!
She will care if you say it in front of other people, specifically she will glare at everyone who heard it till they scramble away, certain that they’ll never use it or acknowledge it for the rest of their living days. If it’s NOBLE team, she’ll just make fun of you, and if Emile tries to mock her for it, y’all team up against him — but he’s ready. Are you?
Mans carved a skull into his helmet like he was designed by a 12 year old and has the ✨ audacity ✨ to front smh

The Alex, Ben and Rook dynamic
Ben: Runs headlong into crazy bullshit
Alex: Acts like she’s too sensible to run headlong into crazy bullshit, but is actually just as bad as Ben.
Rook: Actually tries to avoid running headlong into crazy bullshit, but keeps getting dragged into it by the other two anyway. (But he doesn’t mind THAT much)

Thanks for the tag @gone-to-fight-the-fairies!!!
Rules: Write the latest line from your wip and tag as many people as there are words in the line. Make a new post, don't reblog.
“Right.” He sighs, and places his hand around her waist, shocking her still. She looks up at him with wide eyes, but he keeps his eyes on the horizon. Eventually, she relaxes and moves into his chest, pressing up against the metal breastplate as his arm came snug around her shoulder. “I’m glad you’re here.”
Tagging the lovely @sheimagineddragons, @justagirlinafandomworld and anyone else who wants to play!

Not sure if you're still writing for halo? because I'm really craving some blue team (specifically john) fluffy relationship headcanons 😫
I am ALWAYS writing for Halo!!! As requested, I’ve done a little more for John than the rest — I hope you enjoy this! Also super glad you asked for the entire team because even though Reader fics are rare in Halo, there is still little to no content for Kelly, Fred and Linda :( Happy to make up for it tho! Requests are still open!
JOHN
Our big boy in green is going to be the worst at this, let’s be real
Not in a bad, toxic way; it’s just that he’s the most socially disconnected one of the group.
The only real interactions he has outside of work is with Blue Team, and only because he’s known them his entire life
He is also perfectly content sitting in a corner, staring at a wall, not having anyone talk to him
(You make fun of him later on, knowing now that he’s actually asleep for some of that)
Suffice it to say, you’re going to need to instigate a lot of things. You’ll have to be the one to strike up conversation, keep it going when it starts to slow down, get him interacting, but not in a way that makes him uncomfortable. Ease him into it, do it gently.
But a few months into your relationship, he’ll get used to you and how you do things. He’ll still find difficulty in asking you for things like affection or attention, but you can figure it out by the way he kinda hovers at your shoulder wordlessly and gets weirdly flustered when you teasingly ask him what he needs. He’s a little touch starved, and he’s really intrigued with this new dimension of sensation you’ve opened for him (not necessarily in a sexual manner, but that’s up to your interpretation)
He’ll also have difficulty telling you he’s uncomfortable at some stage of your relationship, either with what you’re doing (whether it’s a double date or something more) or simply the pace you’re going at. You’ll have to interpret it from how stiff he’s being and ask him exactly what’s wrong, offering him responses built into the question since he doesn’t really know how relationship terminology works and what is accepted and stuff.
He’s not inherently bad at it though; he’s supportive as all hell, makes a point to be there for you whenever you need it and is super understanding — what more could you ask for?
If you’ve had a bad day and need to vent, he’s sitting there, listening attentively. If you just want to sit and be quiet, he totally gets that. You want to go raid the pantry for snacks and stare out the observation deck? He’s got a plan ready, and if you want more company, the entirety of Blue Team to back you up in your dastardly heist.
As long as you don’t end up on opposite teams of a game or competition of some sort, he has always got your back. (If you are on opposite teams, he’s still gonna let you down very gently but will absolutely destroy your team with no hesitation — it’s just how he is, he can’t help it)
Like, the dude will jump into an inferno for people he doesn’t even know, you think he wouldn’t do that for you?
KELLY
Kelly is the coolest person you’ve ever met, like even beyond Spartan stuff
So as soon as she clocks that your awestruck face is specific to her (prolly when you ignore John in favour of staring at Kelly after an epic mission), she’s already putting the moves on you
Okay, not MOVES, but she is talking to you way more; but let’s be real, she could be lecturing you on battle strategy and you’d still have heart eyes, so it works well enough.
When you guys get together, she insists that you sit down and talk out things like boundaries and stuff; even if she doesn’t want to admit it, there are some concepts to a relationship that trip her up a little. John and Fred would be too embarrassed, Linda might wait and let you come forward with it yourself, but she’s straight to the point so you don’t have to worry about making her uncomfortable because she will tell you clearly.
She likes working out with you, mostly to see you get all flustered and to laugh at you a little, but she’ll also help to get you into literally the best shape you could be
She also slows down tremendously on runs with you, and takes you on hikes when she can to places with beautiful views. She doesn’t get to relax outside as much as she likes, so she wants you around for that.
Unlike John and Fred, she’s not embarrassed to ask for affection; she’s not unaware or anything, but she’ll toss an arm around your shoulder whenever neither of you are on duty, sit closely to you, lean on you (without crushing you, of course), just little things like that to remind her you’re right next to her.
Will also totally help you dye your hair outrageous colors if you ask (will convince you try if you’re neutral to it)
FRED
Knife boi is a dork
We know this, Blue Team knows this, and he does too
The last “crush” he had was Inspector Lopis, and he got his shit rocked like crazy
Multiple times
So I’m afraid he’s not going to do much beyond banter and being awkward and sweet
Will recognize the effort you’re making in trying to hit on him, though, and ease himself into actual flirting
He has a lot of interests, some since he was a kid, some he’s learning as he’s stepping a little more outside of the military (thanks to the Gammas and Veta, who’s still a very good friend), so he likes to share all of that with you
He also really likes to hear about what you’re interested in
If you want to play video games with ANYONE in Blue Team, pick him
He doesn’t care about winning, just spending time with you
Will also protect you from Kelly and John
He loves reading so you guys will likely have a little book club of your own
He also trains you in CQC
And gets all smug and smirky when you inevitably lose
But he gives you tons of pointers and helps you out however he can
Will absolutely help you get your shit together
Kelly is more strict about this, Linda is scary and John will try but is a damn hypocrite; but Fred actually does his very best to take care of himself and organise things.
It’s not his fault he fails a little. Mostly on the “take care of self” part. But since this is about you, not him, he’s on his top form
LINDA
Okay, so this is a mystery to everyone, Blue Team included
Kelly is pretty sure Linda’s had a bunch of little liaisons, but John vehemently disagrees. Fred isn’t sure, and he refuses to comment on anything
Later, you’ll learn that he once walked in on her and another Spartan, Alice, once and has since been threatened into silence.
Like Kelly, she’s going to make the first move
But unlike Kelly, you’re all but tongue-tied whenever Linda’s around
And she’s way more to the point about it, cornering you somewhere before offering to get drinks
You stutter out an acceptance and she just nods casually, like you were talking about the weather
She’s very calm and composed, so your relationship doesn’t really go through any hitches — she’s honest about anything bothering her, and she can tell if anything is bothering you
She’s really quiet, though, and you worry it’s because she doesn’t fully trust you yet, but she assures you she’s just not that talkative
Kelly and the others also confirm this
She gets you into meditation and yoga, to help you center yourself in a universe full of anxiety and danger. Suddenly, the quiet doesn’t make you worry anymore as you realize how important it was that you guys could spend time saying nothing, doing nothing together and still feel comfortable
She’s ride or die for you, which means any stupid shit you do, she won’t hesitate to back you up, even if it’s stupid. Her priority is to keep you safe, heart and body, so if you won’t listen to her rationale, she might as well mitigate the damage

Hello there.
I would like to request Blue Team from Halo with a female s/o who calls them by their spartan tags (117, 087, 104, 058) to get a reaction. Because their s/o has only ever called either by their name or a nickname and wants to see what would happen if she called them by their Spartan tag.
Hey there! This is a really cute premise, and for the purposes of the fic, I’m going to assume that the Spartans and you, the Reader are already in an established relationship and that you’re a soldier as well. Hope you enjoy this!
I don’t think any of the Spartans would be averse to you calling them by their Spartan tags?? Like, that’s their designation that everyone in the UNSC and some beyond identify them by, it is a part of their identity through and through, and it’s not strange that their S/O should use it. Still…
John wouldn’t outwardly react, but would definitely think it was abnormal. Granted, you were discussing battle strategy with Sgt. Johnson and Captain Keyes so it made sense, but it still gives him pause before he puts it out of his mind. Once the others leave, he might just give you a confused head tilt, but it would have to be Cortana that asks you what was up. He’d probably say “You know you don’t have to stand on ceremony with me, right?” Just legitimately concerned that you thought he would demand that you follow things like chain of command, especially because of how against PDA in front of superior officers he was; but you just laugh it off and say you wanted to try it out. Then, he would just shrug and say that he prefers when you called him John instead.
Fred probably smirks a little, especially if you said it in a one-on-one conversation like when you were wishing him luck for a mission. “Don’t die out there, 104.” You’d say, and he’d just smirk and nod, saying “Yes, Ma’am.” with a facetious salute. And if you got a little flustered, well, that’s just a benefit.
Kelly would take a similar, light-hearted view on the matter, whether you said it in a group discussion or a private conversation. If in a group, she’d just pull you aside later to do the same as if it was only the two of you: she’d grin and say something like “Oh, so I’m just 087 to you now, hmm? Oh, whatever you say…” And would start referring to you by rank or last name for a while, just to mess with you. She loves having any teasing ammunition against you, and would bring it up at later dates too, completely out of the blue, just to see you groan and facepalm when you get the joke.
Linda wouldn’t react at all, in a group or private conversation, but later might ask why you called her by designation, simply out of curiosity. She would likely be the least affected by it.

I have another halo request if you don't mind. Really enjoyed how you wrote the last one. I hope that you have fun writing this one. Made me laugh when I thought about it.
Spartans of your choice with a short (well short compared to the Spartans) gender natural reader that is naturally very strong.
The scenario for this would be the Spartans learning about this during a sparing match. The reader grabs the Spartans and throws them over their shoulder.
As to whether the relationship between the Spartans and reader is platonic or romantic I'll let you pick.
Hey! I’m really glad you liked the last one! This seems cute too — as for romantic or platonic, I’m going to leave it up to interpretation ;)
Since Spartans are obviously war machines and would win pretty much every fight against a normal human, I’m going to assume you’re a S-IV or S-III; if you’re a Spartan-III, then you probably got pulled out of your company to be a headhunter like Noble Six.
So for the Spartans in question, I chose John, Fred, Jorge and Buck because I wrote for John and Fred already, and I wanted to try them out for a chance. (Also Nathan Fillion :D )
First up is the Master Chief himself!
John was the one who insisted that you spar together, so he could be sure you could handle anything that got thrown at you. It was mostly just to give him peace of mind, because you’re a Spartan too (no pun intended), and you’re obviously a badass in your own right.
So y’all are sparring, and you’re doing pretty well, he’s proud of you- and then you toss him over your shoulder.
He’s honestly shocked?? No offence, but that should not have been possible.
You laugh it off, and he tries not to be butthurt, but he’s really competitive, okay? He wants a rematch.
He’s on his A-game from then on, which in a way, is a huge compliment in itself so 🤷‍♀️ And he is proud that you were able to take him down even once, because there are SCORES of Covenant Cohorts that could not say the same.
Kelly is delighted to know you beat John, so there’s also that :)
Then, it’s the Lieutenant himself!
Fred is the CQC guy. He’s the best hand-to-hand combatant among Blue Team, which is saying something. Of course, you want to spar with him.
He doesn’t really want to? He has paperwork, and he’s pretty sure John’s hiding an injury, but he doesn’t want to say no to you either, so to the mats you go!
Once you get into the rhythm of it, he actually loosens up, starts having a little fun; you notice mainly because he starts teasing and taunting you. He’s not as bad as Kelly (or a younger John, from what you hear), but he’s kept up with both of them for all these years, so he do be getting on your nerves.
As you start getting more riled up, he starts letting his guard down. He’s been so bogged down by all the responsibilities that come with his rank, he’s all but forgotten how this could feel: being in the moment, nothing but you and the person you’re fighting, locked in a deadly dance- and then you flip him.
He’s shocked too, but he quickly recovers with a smile and compliments you; he tries to sound miffed, but he’s still smiling really proudly, so it doesn’t work.
He’s always known you were a great fighter and this was just proof!
You’re not winning another match though :)
(Although, all you really have to do is wait until he’s really stressed out again, which won’t take long.)
And now, Jorge!
I feel like Jorge would be the one who asked you to train. He wants to help you out, since that Elite got the jump on you and he had to step in and punch that thing in the spine.
He’s trying to help, at least, but he’s giving you so many pointers and telling you where you should hit him — it’s super overbearing and it’s pissing you off.
You throw him over your shoulder, all huffy, but he’s grinning so big.
After all, he is your #1 hype man! He’s slapping your shoulder and congratulating you, and you KNOW he’s gonna tell everyone on Noble Team what a great job you did.
It’s a little embarrassing, but you know it’s only because he cares.
And now, the one and the only, Edward Buck!
I don’t even think there’s fanfic out there for Buck, which I suppose I understand, but still.
This guy was so smug and ready at the beginning of your session. You guys were on Laconia Station, right after training. Your friends had gathered around you, and the crowd was split between their friend and the top-ranking CQC operative. Spartans are loyal, even in the face of devastating odds.
He’s running his mouth off, and he’s actually doing surprisingly well- and then you toss him over your shoulder.
He shouldn’t be surprised and he’s not; he gets up with a wince and a sheepish smile. He tried to shrug it off, but you can see his ego is bruised, so you compliment him on little things like his form and a certain move he pulled to gain the upper hand.
It’s all he needs for his confidence to be restored, grin brighter than a sun again.
He’s appreciative of how gracefully you handled the situation, and he knows better than to get goaded into a match with you again. But to his (pleasant) surprise, you offer a few private sessions to improve his skill.
He gladly takes you up on it.

Hey can u please do a teen wolf imagine set in season 2 where she is either Scott or stiles sister and she is sneaking around with isaac (they kinda had a thing before he got the bite and after isaac got more confident so he made a move)and isaac sneaks into her room at night and instead of Allison it’s is y/n that Matt was stalking and taking pictures of and obsessed with and he had pictures of her and isaac kissing and stuff and maybe he leaves the pictures in her locker and it freaks her out and you decide the rest. (Sorry it’s a bit dark)
Oh, I love me some Isaac!!! Forgive me if I get some details wrong, it’s been a while since I saw s2. And I’m gonna make you Scotty boi’s sister, because Melissa 🥰
You weren’t the dating type, much to the relief of your mother and your brother - and for some reason, Stiles, but you preferred to pretend that you didn’t know that. - which is why it was such a shock when you drag Isaac Lahey of all people to sit with them during lunch one day.
“I don’t think this is a good idea, Y/N-“ Isaac tires to say, shooting the boys a wary look, but you just shush him and shove him into a seat. You brightly grin at the shocked faces Scott and Stiles before confessing that you’d been dating Isaac for a while now.
Scott freezes for a full thirty seconds.
Stiles chokes on his hashbrowns, and almost dies in that same time period.
“Da- you’re dating him?” He splutters, pointing at a smirking Isaac. “You’re dating him? Oh my god, what the- Scott, say something.”
Stiles gives you a look that says ‘you’re gonna get it now’ which slowly slides off when Scott just keeps quiet, staring at you with wide eyes.
“Wha- Scott, say something.” He grits out, and you roll your eyes, tired of their dramatics.
“All right, enough! Seriously, people are staring.”
That gets Scott moving again, as he looks around to find that people are, indeed, staring. He’s still shocked because when did you start dating?? But now he’s asking questions like when did you two start dating? Why did you keep it a secret so long?
He always knew you kind of had a thing for him: all the flirty banter, and the lovelorn glances…
You and Isaac started up two months ago, you explain, but it’s been pretty low-key so that he can hide it from his dad. (You don’t outwardly say this, exchanging a specific look, but both you and Scott have been pretty sure something was going very wrong in the Lahey household — Scott had smelt blood and fear wafting off of Isaac way too often for it not to be.) So he kinda just?? Accepts it??
He’s concerned, duh, but you’re so happy and he doesn’t want to get in the way of that. But he sternly tells Isaac he’ll kick his ass if he hurts you. Isaac, to his credit, stifles his laughter and genuinely tells him that he’d rather die than hurt you; and that’s good enough for Scotty.
Of course, all of this changes when Isaac becomes a beta.
He does it for you. He wants to be able to protect you, to love you without fear of losing you or getting you in trouble. Derek’s assured him that your protection is a priority of the pack, because even in his slightly power-greedy Alpha state, Derek wouldn’t let what happened to him and Paige happen to his beta.
Stiles and Scott hover around you throughout the whole time Isaac is suspected of murdering his father. Sheriff Stilinski tried to kick them out during your questioning, but they squeezed onto the small couch in his office and just stared at him the whole time. You were shocked and scared and obviously didn’t know anything, so he sent you home pretty quick.
Melissa’s freaked out because 1) you lied to her?? 2) you’re dating now 3) and it’s a boy suspected of murder. So, yeah, maybe she’s questioning her parenting a bit, but she’s really trying to be supportive.
Scott corners Isaac at school (Stiles is there too, naturally) after the whole ice rink thing, without Erica or Derek, and he swears he’d never hurt you. Unfortunately, you walk in right at that moment.
You know when both of them are lying, so you force the truth of them, then and there. You get thrown off guard, of course — they thought you’d react like Stiles, or just like most of the people in those movies react: with a lot of surprise but general and immediate acceptance.
You do immediately do something: leave and avoid both of them for the next couple of days. Your mom’s curious as to why you’re so distant, and why Scott keeps begging you to talk to him, and why you’re avoiding him -- but ultimately, she lets sleeping dogs lie, because she hopes you’ll come to her with something really important.
You hang out with Lydia and Allison a lot more, Allison backing up for Scott by keeping you safe — she tries to defend him for you, but you make it clear you need a lot of time before you can think about that stuff. She also tries to turn you against Isaac, but you’re even more closed off to that.
Lydia is a fresh breath of air, because she is just as confused about this (even if it’s only possibilities and vague stuff) and she doesn’t wanna know more either. She keeps things light between you and Allison, and keeps your mind off of things. But it doesn’t work when Allison and the others drag you guys to your house for a weird “study session” that gets crashed by a giant lizard thing- god, this was your life now.
Isaac grabbed you, and locked you in a bathroom before the whole thing really started. You scream at him to stop, scream for Scott, and beat on his chest, but he just screws his eyes shut and forces you in there — he knows you’ll hate him afterwards, but he also knows you might run straight at the Kanima if it came for him or Scott.
You do hate him afterwards. A little part of you understands why he did it, and it’s unfortunately the same part that still loves him. But you’re still hugely pissed off, especially after Scott and Stiles tell you that he tried to kill Lydia. So the next day, when he tries to talk to you at school, you glare at him until he goes away.
In swoops Matt, all “charming” smiles and “funny” jokes. He sees his chance: months of watching you and Isaac be all cutesy had paid off. He knew what kind of humor you liked — unfortunately, all it did was remind you of your boyfriend and keep you guys at a distance.
God, he hated it. Bad enough that someone was keeping you from him, but that it was Lahey. The brother of the guy that drowned him, the son of the guy that screamed in his face about how it was his fault- no. He had to break you up.
So he consolidated all the pictures that he’d taken of you: candids of you at school, at home, at the coffee place you liked. He slips them into your locker, and watches you squirm and look around. It’s working. Then, it’s those pictures of you and Isaac, kissing at your secret spot, necking in your bedroom, smiling at each other — labels it “Remember the good times?”
You’re trying to talk about it to Scott, Allison and Stiles, but they’re busy with the Kanima. Lydia tries to help, but she’s so out of it and she has been for a while and you’re starting to get worried.
It gets to a point where you run to Isaac, tears in your eyes, and photographs in your hands. “Is this you?” You sob, and he just pulls you into his arms shushing you - “No! No, babe, I’d never do that!” - and promises to keep you safe. You stay glued to his side after that. Boyd is nice and calm, a contrast to Derek who creeps you out a little.
Through his first full moon, you stay with him and keep him grounded. Your voice keeps his father’s out of his head, keeps him in control.
You’re standing off in a corner, watching with a smirk as Erica - who you’ve gotten weirdly close to in the past few weeks - and Isaac double team Jackson (it’s actually… kinda hot? Especially because damn Isaac keeps looking at you); but your view gets obstructed by Matt. He’s trying to talk to you but you barely listen, keeping eye contact with Isaac over his shoulder. Then they leave with Jackson, and Matt makes a move on you. You flinch away so hard, you hit the counter and get the bartender’s attention.
You confront him about the pictures and he splutters for an excuse. The bartender kicks out Matt, seeing your distress, who’s now more desperate for your attention than ever.
Matt - or the Kanima- kidnaps you during Lydia’s party and keeps you in his basement. You’re scared out of your mind, begging for him to let you go, but he promises you that there won’t be anyone in your ways from now on. While everyone’s dealing with the fiasco at the police station, Isaac, Boyd and Erica come get you.
He’s trying not to cry when he sees your busted lip, the bruises around your wrists where you were tied down.
Boyd and Erica decided to leave, but Isaac didn’t want to leave you behind. So he goes to Scott and Deaton, and becomes a good guy, helps out with Jackson and everything!
He also starts living with you guys, which you’re very excited about ;) But Melissa is very careful about leaving you two alone. And Scott’s stupid senses screw you over in that he interrupts every time you get to more than kissing.
But you find ways. 😉😏😏
Hope you liked it! I think I changed a few things, and I tried to keep the canon timelines for everything, but yeah!

I’ll Be There For You (Geralt Of Rivia)
Tumblr media
pairing: Geralt of Rivia x Reader
warnings: none
word count: 98
A/N: My entry for @justagirlinafandomworld’s Flash Fiction Challenge!! (Aka the only reason I write lmao) I figured our wonderful Wolf deserved a little love 💕 So enjoy!
Tumblr media
Geralt wasn’t good with words.
Jaskier could weave you an entire book full of ballads, Yennefer - with her Aretuza education and flair for the dramatic - could wax poetic to you any time she pleased, and even you had a lovely eloquence to your compliments and sweet nothings that he could never replicate.
But he lets you know exactly how he feels — a displeased grunt, the softening of his expression, the glowing warmth of his smile…
Still, whenever you worry, he holds you close and swears five simple words to you:
“I’ll be there for you.”

THE HALO TV SHOW REVIEW (that very few people asked for)
Ah, the Halo tv series! I've been waiting a while to watch this, and throughout it all, I've been jumping from one side of the very divided fandom to the next, but now that I've finally seen it...
I’m actually pleasantly surprised.
Of course there are plenty of little things that do irk me, but I have a rule of thumb about never judging any show by its pilot or even the first few episodes — because while some hit it out of the park with their pilots, a lot of shows don’t. And those are normal shows, procedurals and the like, and not a beloved franchise with very rich lore.
I know what some of you are already thinking; that report about how they didn’t even look at the games. Which, in my book, is a huge taboo because why wouldn’t you look at the source material while making an adaptation?
But things like Fate: The WINX Saga and The Witcher Netflix have left me with very low standards, and Halo TS absolutely surpasses them with flying colors!
Quick Summary
We’re introduced to this universe on Madrigal — an Insurrectionist planet — via a short exposition about the UNSC and Spartans by a group of Insurrectionists playing cards. This was a little heavy handed, but efficient and shows us the clear divide between how the Innies view our hero as compared to how we usually see Chief. It also shows the conflict between them and the UNSC as we see the guy they sent to negotiate openly brands the government as oppressors.
Everyone shushes the hell up when their leader, Jin Ha, shows up and he asks where his daughter is — which is where we’re introduced to Kwan Ha, who is outside the camp with her friends, searching for drugs. (Tangent: how come so many teenagers on TV are shown doing drugs? Like yes, there is always that group in school, but most of my friends hated to drink even coffee, let alone do crack)
Anyways, they’re all getting high when Kwan Ha spots a Phantom and runs back to try to get her friends to flee, but they’re attacked by Elites. She manages to escape and fires a flare to warn the rest of her people, managing to get back to camp and alert her father that the coming enemies aren’t human, but of course that isn’t enough.
The Elites massacre most of the camp, brutal and unflinchingly, before they’re interrupted by the Spartans — the Master Chief, and Silver Team. Jin Ha initially attacks Chief, but when he kills the Elite attacking both of them, they make a tentative truce. Despite this, the Spartans aren’t able to save the citizens of Madrigal and Jin Ha dies to save his daughter.
Dr. Halsey and Parangosky are introduced and have a surprisingly amiable chat about the events at Madrigal, and Halsey is rebuked when Parangosky discovers a clone, and is told that the “Cortana Project” was not approved. In fact, she’s told to proceed “legally”.
By the Chief-In-Charge of ONI.
Back to the summary.
Leaving Kwan Ha behind for extraction, the Spartans sweep the area and come upon the “not a natural formation” cave that the Covenant were excavating. Chief and Riz-028 go in to investigate, Dr. Catherine Halsey watching from their helmet cams, and find an artifact that Chief activated by touching it. A pulse causes Chief to have “visions” about a child and his family.
Seeing Chief destabilized and Riz occupied with helping him, a hidden Elite hauls ass away from the site, and escapes from both Spartans on the scene.
Chief sends Silver Team ahead on the Phantom and retrieves Kwan Ha on the Pelican they flew in on (where is the pilot? Guess it’s on autopilot for plot convenience, which is fair enough). Once she wakes up, she is immediately contacted by Miranda Keyes who asks her to make a statement endorsing the UNSC to other Insurrectionist colonies, which she strongly refuses to do.
Jacob Keyes enters and discusses Halsey with his daughter, and tells Miranda that Kwan Ha has been ordered terminated.
Chief gets her some food, and while she eats, he attempts to joke with her, but she is not amused and reveals that he killed her mother. They discuss whether questioning authority is good or bad before he’s ordered to terminate Kwan Ha. This spurs a sequence I quite liked, in which the Chief and Kwan Ha escape from the UNSC, with the help of the artifact.
Controversies
People didn’t like a lot of little things in the first half of the episode, but it was generally accepted and liked— I understood the concerns about the Elites being so chunky and slow, and the CGI weapons, but again these are pilot concerns and may be improved as time goes on. But overall, the first part was not a problem.
Parangosky was kind of a shock to me, mostly because of how… normal she was? She seemed like a normal superior in a military environment, stern but kind, and that threw me because Margaret Parangosky was called the Dragon Lady for a reason?? I expected her to be a cold-blooded psychopath, but she was very chill so I don’t know how I feel about that? Is she still the CINCONI in this?
Halsey was alright, she really shone towards the end when she superseded ONI’s orders and sent Silver Team to protect John. That was top Halsey, 10/10. Not sure why Cortana is a full ass clone when it was just Halsey’s brain that was cloned, but let’s see how it turns out.
Why is Miranda a science officer? She was simply military in the games, which was because she took after Jacob Keyes more than her mother, but there seems to be more of an emphasis placed on the Halsey-Keyes-Miranda family here than in the games, where you wouldn’t have even known Halsey and Keyes were together unless you read the books.
And on that note, I feel like Keyes was a little too easily resigned to the hit ordered on a little girl?? I’m not sure Game!Keyes would’ve stepped in, but he certainly wouldn’t relent that quickly. After all, despite knowing how to keep a secret, he was never happy doing it.
(If you get that reference, I award you a cookie 🍪.)
And now to a part I neglected to mention in the summary because I really disliked it. It’s the only part of the whole episode that made me angry, and that is the Makee and the Covenant part.
The Prophet of Mercy and the human villain, Makee discuss the artifact and he’s so deferential to her that it’s honestly confusing?? Why is Mercy following the orders of a Reclaimer, who the Prophets all set out to massacre? I assume they brought her on to gain access to Forerunner goodies, but then why massacre humanity if you could just take them and store them away as backups? And wouldn’t it cause the Covenant’s faith in them to waver, because if the human is the one that can access the artifacts and is logically the one to guide them to salvation, then what do the Prophets even do?
The Chief also very quickly jumped to deserting to protect Kwan? As a whole, he trusted her very quickly. I feel like that should’ve taken the whole season, if not a few seasons more, for him to grow an attachment to Kwan. After all, it took four-five games, a lot of trauma and Cortana for him to do it the last time. But, it’s an intriguing way they’re going, so I’m alright to see it through.
Positives
I know I spent a lot of time on the negatives, but I do like a lot of things that happened here! The CGI was great, the intro was amazing (very Halo), I liked some of the music (some was just generic battle music), and the final half of the episode where everyone is rushing to neutralize the Chief, and grow more and more worried as he refuses to go down was just awesome! Elites are chunky, as I said, but the Prophet of Mercy looks as he does in the game without looking freaking goofy, which I didn't expect would be possible. The production quality isn't lacking, that's for sure.
The first half I have very little, tiny complaints about; all negligible, really. I like that they leaned into how brutal the Elites were in their massacre of humanity, because lots of people forgot that the Sangheili, as part of the Covenant, wiped out upwards of thirty human planets in both ground assaults and plasma bombardments. They really sold the violence they inflicted, and it wasn't as heavy-handed as the references they made -- though I did love hearing Cortana's (in)famous line about the cave and that sneaky lil ref to Commander Shepard and the Skillian blitz.
The second half was a little hard to wrap my head around, but I felt that most of it could be explained.
The joke Chief made that people were mad about: He makes jokes, y’all. Especially at the younger age he’s supposed to be now. The only time he’s interacted with a teenager is his siblings, so it isn’t a leap that he would. Sure, he would probably prefer not to, but he’s both polite and needed to talk to this girl, so I’m not surprised he tried to joke with her.
The Insurrectionist raid: Strange that he would openly share information about a classified op, even if it was to someone who was directly affected by it, but I have a theory about this and his whole behavior here (that probably won’t pan out)
What if the artifact really did mess with his brain? The way Halsey suggests it to Parangosky seems like a stall, to buy for more time, but he is off-balance, so it’s within the realm of possibility that the thing screwed with his decision making, removed his inhibitions, told him to run. Idk idk maybe I’m just grasping??
The HELMET- okay, so I’m very biased on this. I was shocked they pulled the helmet off so quick, thought they would stretch that out for a few more episodes, but I get it: if they were going to finally take it off, it might as well be to get someone to trust him and see that he’s human, which connects with the arc they seem to be sending him on
But I’m biased because I’ve been in love with Pablo Schreiber since American Gods (lemme tell you, the differences between John and Mad Sweeney are giving me friggin’ whiplash) and I’ve had a crush on John-117 since I played Halo CE, so both of these have like Venn-diagramed for me lol
So yeah, overall I liked the episode and am very interested in seeing what’s next! I'll give this a 7/10.
I'd love to hear any thoughts you have, because my brother still hasn't watched, so I can't yell at him about this stuff lmao
Thanks for reading this long, long post and have a good day! (And take this as a reminder to have some water if you haven't in a while :))
