are there any ice-types that can do well in warm environments, or is it always a requirement for one to have somewhere cold to retreat to?

really the only one i can think of is fridge-form rotom, as their ice typing is sort of insular. ice type pokemon on the whole are evolved for an extreme environment, and in doing so they've given up on survivability in other environments. some of these pokemon- like cubchoo- can survive outside of their environment provided that they're given access to cool areas, but others- such as cryogonal- are unable to survive longterm.

interestingly, galarian darmanitan falls into the latter category, despite its unique ice/fire typing in its zen mode. its zen mode is a temporary state triggered by stress hormones, and being in too warm of an environment for an extended period of time can actually trigger it. that can help them survive in hot weather in the short term, but long term the stress will shorten their lifespan.

I know you like this month/season/holidays and all coming up, so if you could have a harvest/fall/farm themed Pokemon team, which 6 pokemon would you choose?

I got a little carried away with this ask and made two teams!! x3 one for autumn / farm kinda feel and the other for winter / Christmas kinda feel!!

Miltank - moo moo cow :3

Gogoat - big cute goat <3 also along with miltank goes with the whole farm animal vibe and also can both make milk / cheese products!

Pumpkaboo - self explanatory! perfect autumn Halloweenie pokemon :D

Appletun - apple pie cutie pie <3

Flaaffy - sheepy and so pink! Farm vibes and also fluffy to stay warm in the cold!

Rotom (heat forme) - they like to cook stuff! Like sweets n autumn treats, and are very warm like a fireplace :D

Sawsbuck - seasonal frosty forest fellow, of course I added them!

Stoutland - warm and big and soft and kind, saves people from the cold of snow so would be such a good friend <3

Delibird - easy choice but totally fits :3

Chingling - bells are such a winter instrument! Just very cute and a unique choice for the season I feel :D

PLM: One of Endeavour's partners is a Darmanitan, so he insists on Shoto training one too, but Shoto, being Shoto, gets a Galarian Darumaka for it's Ice type. During the Sports Festival he finds out that it has Zen Mode - making it an Ice/Fire type.

My favorite pokemon of that type:

I don’t think it will come much as a surprise to anyone, but I’m very fond of the Sneasel line~

I’ve never had the chance to personally raise a Sneasel or Weavile, but they look to be quite the formidable opponent purely because of their speed~

My second favorite pokemon of that type:

It’s not very original, but Glaceon are very elegant looking~ I know they’re is quite a debate on whether or fox, cat, or dog Pokémon, but I still quite like it’s feline characteristics~✨

The cutest pokemon of that type:

Alolan Vulpix are extremely adorable~! I think I would quite like to pet one, they look incredibly soft, though I do wonder if their fur is cold to the touch~

infernape is probably my favourite starter ever, i call mine Burnt Ivory Kong (well i have to shorten it to burnt kong but you get the joke), and emboar also gets in bc gen five is probably my favourite and i think pigs are funny

volcarona and chandelure are probably my favourite bug and ghost types respectively, and darmanitan is the most powerful monkey on the planet

he's not fire type unless in zen mode so i can't put him here but imo galarian darmanitan with gorilla tactics is one of the funniest pokemon theyve ever made. his power is Monkey and he's so monkey he had to be relegated to the top tier of competitive because he's just so fucking good at monkey

Standard Mode: On days when blizzards blow through, it comes down to where people live. It stashes food in the snowball on its head, taking it home for later. Though it has a gentle disposition, it's also very strong. It will quickly freeze the snowball on its head before going for a headbutt.

Zen Mode: Anger has reignited its atrophied flame sac. This Pokemon spews fire everywhere as it rampages indiscriminately. Darmanitan takes this form when enraged. It won't stop spewing flames until its rage has settled, even if its body starts to melt.

Darmanitan and Galarian Darmanitan are the only pokemon with the ability Zen Mode (Changes the Pokemon's shape when HP is half or less.)

Galarian Darmanitan is the only pokemon with the ability Gorilla Tactics (Boosts the Pokemon's Attack stat but only allows the use of the first selected move.)

Rating all of Pokémon's regional forms pt.2!

Galarian forms:

Galarian Meowth and Perrserker: I looove these guys. I like what they did with this one. They went the Viking route and I love it, especially with Perrserker. It's just a little gremlin cat and I love it! 245/10

Galarian Ponyta and Rapidash: Good but could be better. At least they did something to make it look different from the original unlike with Alolan Vulpix and Ninetales. I'm not a big fan of fairy types anyways, so 4.5/10.

Galarian Farfetch'd and Sirfetch'd: Not a big fan of these guys. I like the fact that they gave Farfetch'd an evolution, coz I wasn't a big fan of the OG one either. 5.5/10

Galarian Weezing: Oh boy this is a laugh. This design is so bad, it's funny. Well at least they made it look a little different unlike with Alolan Meowth. Plus, the design could've been a lot worse. 3.5/10

Galarian Mr. Mime and Mr. Rime: I feel meh about Galar Mr. Mime, but Mr. Rime's design has me grinning. It's just a silly old man! 8.9/10

Galarian Zigzagoon, Linoone and Obstagoon: Ohhhh hell YEAH!!!! I really loooove the punk rock touch it got on its trip to Galar. It just feels so good to get a punk Pokemon other than Toxtricity. 199/10

Galarian Corsola and Cursola: I really, REALLY love these guys. Pokemon really said the coral reefs were dying. I like the ghostly touch and how different it is from OG Corsola (OG Corsola is fucking overrated). It really does a serious topic like coral bleaching in a way that isn't shoved down your throat. It just makes me want to give it a hug even more. 15/10

Galarian Darumaka and Darmanitan + Zen Mode: I like these guys better than the OG Darumaka and Darmanitan. Personally I like the contrast between the original and Galarian forms of this line. The Ice type really adds the contrast to the OG Darumaka line. 65/10

Galarian Yamask and Runerigus: Wow... those guys are amazing! Galarian Yamask isn't much different from the OG, but you can still tell them apart. Now Runerigus... I love this guy. I love the contrast from Cofagrigus! 99/10

Galarian Stunfisk: I just feel.. meh about it. 6.2/10

Galarian Slowpoke, Slowbro and Slowking: I love these guys, especially Galarian Slowking's goth look in contrast to OG Slowking. I think these guys are better than the OG Slowking line. 73/10

Galarian Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres: I don't really care for these guys. I think the best one out of the three is Galarian Articuno because I love the touch they gave it. 6/10

Favorite: Galarian Meowth and Perrserker

The Darumaka Family

Darumaka is quite the interesting design, I think. You’d be forgiven for not really understanding what it’s supposed to be, but this round little Fire type is meant draw connections to Daruma dolls, which are often colored red and given pale faces. Darumaka is even shown to be able to tuck its limbs into its body, returning to a fully rounded shape more similar to its inspiration. It definitely feels like a little spiritual-fantasy monster, not resembling any animal in particular but being some odd corruption of a person, like a miniature goblin or elf of some kind.

Darmanitan takes things in a more straightforward direction, with its arms and feet making it much more closely resembling a primate of some kind, though the patterns on its stomach and elongated eyebrows (as well as the triangle-toothed style of its upper face) almost being like an owl of all things. This odd combination is what bolsters that fantasy monster reading I got from Darumaka, and is welcome in my book. I did praise some of the previous families for their more realistic portrayals of animals, but there’s no problem with the odd fiery goblin or ogre inclusion as well.

Interestingly, Darmanitan has an alternate form as well – titled as its Zen Form. Daruma dolls are actually based upon a Buddhist monk who popularized the titular idea of zen and meditation. As such, Zen Mode Darmanitan becomes a stoic, statue-like being that adds the Psychic type to its previous sole Fire typing. It’s a neat idea to tie Darmanitan to its inspiration further, and is probably helpful to soothe Darmanitan’s wilder habits.

Because like, god damn. They could use a breather.

A creative combination of ideas that makes for a nice fantasy creature.

Oh yeah, Darumaka and Darmanitan also gained Galar forms in Gen 8 which leaned further into their primate-ness. Darumaka becomes a more thickly-furred Ice type in Galar, said to have atrophied its flame sac due to living in the harsh cold for too long, though now seems to be empowered by frigid temperatures. It’s okay, I like the frostbitten blue skin and frozen eyebrows, but it’s not a whole lot.

Darmanitan, meanwhile, is… pretty weird. It gets an afro-like ball of fur on top of its help, and a bulbous spot of mustache and beard around its mouth. It’s likely meant to make Galarian Darmanitan resemble a snowman at a glance, with the diamond-shaped ice bits in its hair resembling eyes and a nose, but comes up a bit short. Darmanitan feels a bit too roundly and smoothly drawn in my opinion, like a simplified drawing rather than the proper design it should be portrayed with.

I also don’t know exactly what Galarian Darmanitan is suppose to have as like, a special gimmick if that makes sense? Like, why was it decided to give Darmanitan an alternate form that just amounted to arctic ape? The city located in the snowy area of Galar has a natural hot spring in it, so I would’ve expected Darmanitan to have been based off macaques which inhabit frigid areas and frequently bathe in hot springs (and also may have been used for part of Darumaka’s name). Not that those can be found in Britain, what Galar is based off of, but whatever. But no, no connection between Darmanitan and the hot springs are made, and as such Galarian Darmanitan feels kind of shallow where other regional forms feel more developed.

Galarian Darmanitan’s Zen Mode (which lacks anything close to official art) was changed as well to become, well… the opposite of zen. This Zen Mode hops around frantically, as Darmanitan’s flame sac has apparently been fully reignited and created an Ice/Fire type. Fire now spews out of the top of Darmanitan’s head like a blowtorch and melts the snowman face around it, but the rest of the design looks… really incomplete. I get that Darmanitan’s arms retract into its body in the normal Zen mode form, but that made sense with the whole meditation and regression into a Daruma doll thing. Galarian Darmanitan is trying really hard to be a snowman but it doesn’t fit with how much the damn thing bounces around like rubber. Maybe if it actually became static and more closely resembling a snowman for camouflage I could stomach it? As it stands though this feels like a messy combination of ideas.
