you've got the founder of the fantasy ancient Chinese CIA and the leader of what is essentially the mafia and then they're soulmates and in love. they're both willing to kill anyone who dares hurt the other while also just wanting a soft domestic life together

Zhou Zishu is an assassin and spymaster who put the current Emperor on the throne, and then quit his job by faking his death (kinda, hes still dying but not as fast as he was supposed to). Had done A Lot on his old job, including murdering children (more than one, and at least one of them in a way I can't even describe without several trigger warnings), exterminating whole families, war crimes (and i dont mean this in a buzzword way, i mean "organized a public execution of foreign diplomats during war time")… btw he doesn't feel particularly bad about any of this, because he believes it was necessary. Like he wouldn't do it for fun, but he thinks the ends (putting a good Emperor on the throne) justified the means (all of the atrocities). As a retiree, he definitely cut down on the amount of morally reprehensible murder, but not murder in general. He still routinely kills ppl, he just doesn't go out of his way to kill more. Wen Kexing, meanwhile, is the Ghost Valley Master - Ghost Valley being a place where the worst of criminals are exiled. Even in such a place, he has reputation as a complete lunatic, owed partially to the fact that he either skinned a man or fed him his own flesh or both at one point, and partially to him having a rule where he would kill anyone who came closer than 3 meters to him. But in truth, everything he'd done was to survive the Ghost Valley and eventually take revenge for his parents, who were brutally murdered when he was only nine. By the start of the novel's timeline, he put his plan in motion - the plan that would drown jianghu in blood, but also deliver poetic justice to all responsible for his parents' deaths, as well as all who'd commit the same crime given the chance. And these two men, these two murderers and schemers, meet - and unexpectedly, find in each other the person who /understands/. The person who is just as ruthless and whose hands are just as bloody, but also the person who knows standing at the top of the world is not worth it, who seeks the same freedom of leaving it all behind, and who is still, underneath it all, a human, with human heart seeking connection. So you have this couple who understand each other with barely a word, and who want the same things - who are so hungry for domesticity and for people they can just goof around with when all their lives they had to measure every step and word - but ALSO where one half a couple is like "i gotta go murder hundreds in revenge" and the other half is like "ok pick you up at 6". (This btw is why I'm submitting novel's iteration of the couple in particular. Show wenzhou with their ridiculous breakups over morality could Never.) Also they were both hiding who they are when they first met, and later flirted about having figured each other out. Finally, I'll leave you my favorite quote that just. perfectly sums up their relationship: "And just like that, they fell asleep in each other's arms, steeped in the smell of blood."

You’ve probably already had submissions for them but I’ll add on. One of them founded an assassin’s guild and killed a staggering number of people. His malewife is the leader of a sect of insane murderous outcasts, and he attained his position by proving to be the most crazy and murder happy of them all. Most of the plot involves him wandering around watching his schemes get more people killed. Together they adopt a kid that was only orphaned due to said scheming (oops). They’re terrible and I love them.

What’s your favorite iteration of raph?

It’s gotta be 2003 Raph. The dude is just…so Raph. If you haven’t watched 2003 please do, the entire thing is on YouTube for free rn.

The thing I like the most, other than his personality (and his role of “protector” that is subtly shown throughout the show) is his bond with Mikey. Though not told to the face, Raph seems to share a closer bond with Mikey than any of the others. He is notably more on edge/upset when Mikey is hurt (in one episode he is holding his hand whilst he is unconscious) and an episode from Back To The Sewers shows that Raph snaps out of his mind control by remembering him having fun with Mikey rather than, like all the other brothers, being snapped out of it when remembering a memory of Splinter. I couldn’t find many images of this, oops.

Wow, this was a ramble. But I can’t help but feel 2003 Raph isn’t talked about nearly enough. I haven’t even touched on his protector role, and how they portray his anger issues perfectly (I’m glaring at you, 2012).

Can we talk about this guy more? I want to talk about him more.

And he’s not even my favourite in the show, actually my third favourite and I still adore him.

(He is also the only turtle to get punched in the face by a literal child. That’s gotta count for something)

i have.... a lot of trouble picking favourites. i also really like spearmaster for slugs, but i was already drawing them twice so i only included gourm since theyre my fav fav. i struggled on lizard and iterator too, i really like white lizards and i REALLY like pebbles but i gotta be honest i just like moon better and the green lizards are so so silly. i was stuck between chieftain and dragonslayer but i ended up going w slayer. and finally i also really like industrial complex and outer expanse but its gotta be metro for my favourite its just so so cool

Cold Nights

Chapter One: Raph x reader story A/N: Hi hello! this is my first time ever posting this kind of story in here! pls be kind and lemme know of any thing that i can do better for the story. Raphael has been my favourite character for forever now so i wanted to show hims some love! This is in the Bayverse universe but some referencesto the other iterations might appear! Chapter 2/3 This was easy enough. Just a look around the club to see if any weird activities were going on, Jones was somewhere in there as well, much easier for him to walk around all these people and mingle. Meanwhile Raph was on a corner, hiding in the shadow, even if things were less tense for them on the surface it didn’t mean that some folks wouldn’t throw him and his brothers dirty looks here and there. So it was just easier to stay low, even if having to do it made his blood boil.

‘At least the music is nice.’ he thought, might not be what he listens to the most, but jazz was soothing, helped him concentrate, he might even tap his foot to it. The fact that the girl singing was fine as hell didn’t help either, the dress she was wearing didn’t leave much to the imagination and her eyes were piercing through the crowd, almost as if looking for anything in particular “huh… interesting .”

The night on and on, Jones came up to him a few times, said that nothing was going on, no one saw anything during the party  so the calls about the suspicious activity was probably just some drunk guy wanting attention. Ah well, at least he got to have some fun and nice drinks Raph thinks, making his way to the outside of the club, it was a bit cold so the area was empty, or so he thought because the smell of smoke brought him back from his thoughts. Lo and behold it was the singer, she was eyeing him curiously, an amused smile gracing her lips. He wasn’t going to lie, she was starting to make him a bit twitchy.

“What? Have ya never seen a mutant before?” It came out more aggressive than he intended but oh well, not like he is gonna see her again.

“Heh! If you count the times I’ve seen you in TV? I’ve seen them plenty of times.” She says with a chuckle throwing her cigarette away to walk closer to him “Relax big guy, I ain’t looking because to be rude, I was just taking you in. You’re taller than I thought, TV really doesn’t do it justice.” She laughs.

His shoulders relax, a sigh he didn’t know he was holding in leaves his mouth “Shit- sorry I’m just used to the other kind of the staring” leaning against the wall Raph takes a good look at her, she was still in her fancy dress but her hair was now up, held together by a fancy hairclip ‘Must be one of those rich girls’ he thinks already making a mental note to be wary.

“Oh I know. I noticed you were basically glued to the corner of the club, tense as all hell and looking everywhere like something was gonna jump atcha” She crosses her arms and looks up at him with a small smile.

‘So she WAS paying attention to her surroundings… REAL good attention’ Raph’s about to say something else when his phone vibrates, it’s Jones telling him that they can go, the party was over and nothing of importance happened so there was no need for them to be there anymore.

-Dude lets just go, this thing is over and nothing happened, the others are waiting back at the lair.

Raph rolls his eyes, he supposed his friend (ugh) was right, there was no need to stay any longer than need be… even if this very pretty girl WAS making up conversation with him there was no way that she would really want anything to do with him besides kill some curiosity she had from seeing him around on television. When he looks back at her she raises an eyebrow at him, clearly waiting for an answer.

He sighs “Well, as fun as  it was meeting ya, I gotta run, got a friend waiting for me at the entrance.” He nods at her, starting to peel himself from the wall slowly. She hums lowly.

“Hm, I was hoping we could chat some more. But alright, wouldn’t wanna keep your buddy waiting now do we?” she says, extending her hand at him “Name’s (Y/N) by the way.”

“Raphael, but you probably already knew that.” He shakes her hand carefully, her skin soft and cold against his.

“I prefer knowing names from the people themselves.” She tilts her head, friendly grin plastered on her face as they bid their goodbyes.

He chuckles and nods, finally walking to meet up with Casey, a warm feeling on his chest for the first time in the chilly night.

4. Favourite iterator?

Gotta go with pebbles honestly aldkdk he's sad and pathetic and I like that in a man. Also I think it's super cool to see how he declines over the campaigns, from his arrogance with the earlier slugcats to the way he can barely speak with Saint. It's very tragic and I have a soft spot for characters who are the author of their own downfall. But more importantly I came across the video Go Go Ghost Ship by Yoli Mieta on youtube, which was so powerful and such a brilliant way to tell Pebbles' story and it fundamentally rewired my brain structure. Pls go watch it.

4. When iterators were more connected, did your iterator like to socialize on public broadcasts? Or did they tend to keep to their own group?

EE was built on a very isolated island so he had bad wifi </3 He didn't have much of a local group and preferred to keep to himself anyway, since he looked down on other iterators a little for pursuing the triple affirmative. If he was less terminally offline he would probably be fairly active in forums about Ancient art and block anyone who brings up Sliver of Straw.

It is such a comforting moment for me. I enjoy rewatching that whole segment.

Also, It's a particularly big deal under the context of the red thread. So it's narratively highly significant.

After all, a great deal of went wrong with Korn in the last life was his inability to claim and be out with In. There is simply no way Dean will let that happen the second time around.

It's like he built his whole personality and purpose specifically to be able to hold on to, keep, and be public with Pharm when he finally finds him. Alex even says/implies, "I wouldn't believe it, I wouldn't give up, except that it's you."

I mean, I have a real soft spot for SOTUS and the arm throw (both times) and PitchBank's modern iteration of this in Golden Blood. And I admit, that's the first I thought of when you asked, but the surrounding BLs aren't my favorites.

Speaking of, My Engineer actually has a quite a few good ones.

HEAR ME OUT. HEAR ME OUT A SECOND. I love the Team Dark Found-Family dynamic just as much as the next person - I see them as platonic in most instances, but I also PERSONALLY BELIEVE that there is also a case for them to be made as a ship. I said it. Kill me, cancel me. I only have to include this because there is a strange amount of hostility around this ship that I could honestly write a whole essay about. Anyways, to answer the question: 1. They feel very much like a "Us vs. The World" couple. No matter how shit life gets, no matter how one finds themselves falling and sinking into the dirt - they'll always be by each other's side to support each other. They don't care about the opinions of anyone else, as long as they have each other - they are happy. And that kind of loyalty shit can kinda be romantic af. 2. Rouge is actually mentally stable enough to deal with Shadow's bullshit. No one else both fully understands where Shadow is coming from but also won't hesitate to call him out on his bull. She takes the time to understand him, but she can also tell him to his face when he's being stupid. And ignoring the most modern iterations of Shadow because I. don't. like. himmmmm. - Rouge is the only person you can find him consistently listening to. 3. Imagining them in a relationship is just very interesting to think about. I think Rouge is very used to putting up her flirty front but never really falling for anyone, and Shadow's gotta keep up his "hMPH, I don't care about anyone!" routine - I think it's a slap in both of their faces when they realise they have feelings for each other. Like - what do they even do now?? But in that, they find something to relate to each other about and they can both learn to navigate the relationship together. I don't think they'd be an overtly affectionate romance, most people around them wouldn't even know they're dating - they only feel comfortable showing this side of themselves and their relationship around a few select people. It's just - their relationship is something very personal and intimate between them that only really they can understand. 4. In fanfic, for ME, the ship is a really useful tool to explore Shadow's demisexuality. He reads as very ace or demi to me, I don't think he would feel attraction to someone unless being extremely close to them. And which person is he the closest to? Rouge! I think Shadow, after years of never even considering Rouge as a romantic partner, suddenly finds himself thinking of the possibility and wondering wtf is wrong with him all of a sudden. Just him dealing with his first ever romantic feelings? It's fun to explore, fun to write! And I dont think Rouge having a crush on him is out of left field either - she has just straight up flirted with him before, which can either just be her typical behaviour or her usual flirty mannerisms are simply benefitting her by masking how she truly feels - and she's liked having that barrier, because actual relationships are scawy. 5. "Even if you believe everyone is against you, know that I'll always remain by your side." - That line. That fucking line. Such a beautiful way to say "I love you" - romantically, platonically, I don't care just - hot diggity damn There, I've laid it out. Judge me ALL THY WANT. MY HEAD IS ON THE CHOPPING BLOCK, I HAVE LITTLE TO CARE FOR. Anyways, thanks for the ask lmao

By the start of the novel's timeline, he put his plan in motion - the plan that would drown jianghu in blood, but also deliver poetic justice to all responsible for his parents' deaths, as well as all who'd commit the same crime given the chance. And these two men, these two murderers and schemers, meet - and unexpectedly, find in each other the person who /understands/. The person who is just as ruthless and whose hands are just as bloody, but also the person who knows standing at the top of the world is not worth it, who seeks the same freedom of leaving it all behind, and who is still, underneath it all, a human, with human heart seeking connection. So you have this couple who understand each other with barely a word, and who want the same things - who are so hungry for domesticity and for people they can just goof around with when all their lives they had to measure every step and word - but ALSO where one half a couple is like "i gotta go murder hundreds in revenge" and the other half is like "ok pick you up at 6". (This btw is why I'm submitting novel's iteration of the couple in particular. Show wenzhou with their ridiculous breakups over morality could Never.) Also they were both hiding who they are when they first met, and later flirted about having figured each other out. Finally, I'll leave you my favorite quote that just. perfectly sums up their relationship: "And just like that, they fell asleep in each other's arms, steeped in the smell of blood."

You’ve probably already had submissions for them but I’ll add on. One of them founded an assassin’s guild and killed a staggering number of people. His malewife is the leader of a sect of insane murderous outcasts, and he attained his position by proving to be the most crazy and murder happy of them all. Most of the plot involves him wandering around watching his schemes get more people killed. Together they adopt a kid that was only orphaned due to said scheming (oops). They’re terrible and I love them.

lowkey-- no-- highkey beleive mikey is some of the best adhd representation in media. regardless of whether it's canon in the iteration or not, it is always done so well (at least in my eyes)

Look, Mikey is consistently my favourite guy for a reason. Especially 2003 Mikey.

Representation is done best when it’s not shoved in your face and presented as an anomaly, and the way Mikey is written in many iterations is perfect example of this. I love the guy, I really do.

I have plenty of headcanons! I shove them in my fics and mention them from time to time! At the moment Too Many Turtles is my main ranting point, but maybe one day I’ll note everything down, who knows.

Hello! I’ve started ‘03 pretty recently (like, within the past two weeks or so) and I have been enjoying it immensely! I’m currently on about early-to-mid season 4

I would LOVE to hear your thoughts on the show! For starters, who’s your favourite character(s)?

oh my stars I LOVE SEASON 4 it's like. my favorite season of TMNT03, mostly bc of Leo since he is. my favorite in TMNT03 lmfao

tbh it's kind of hard to pick a favorite?? mostly bc i IMMENSELY enjoy all of the brothers in this iteration, similar to Rise, but i gotta admit that i always had a slight penchant for Mikey in almost all TMNT iterations – except the 07 movie and Bayverse (Bayverse Donnie my beloved). anyway. i enjoy the dynamic of the boys SO MUCH in 03, like, it's duking it out with Rise for first place in my heart, i just love it that much. they have SO much sibling energy, especially Mikey and Raph, the way they hurl insults at each other is fucking HILARIOUS bc Raph always goes for Mikey's intelligence (or lack thereof in his opinion) meanwhile Mikey just gleefully says Raph is butt-ugly AND STICKS TO IT. LIKE HIS GO TO INSULT FOR RAPH IS TO CALL HIM UGLY IDK WHY THATS SO DAMN FUNNY TO ME AJHHJD.

also i just really like how there isnt really a whole singular duo dynamic in 03 bc i remember in 12 they had this Team A and Team B thing going on, which i wasnt a huge fan of. the boys get to mix it up pretty regularly and i enjoy their different dynamics so much, such as Raph & Donnie (the twinsies) and Leo & Mikey (big bro & lil bro combo). dont even get me started on the characterisation; 12 Donnie really left a bad mark on him bc the writers bungled him up so much, and while i adore Mad Scientist Donnie in Rise, there is something so endearing about gentle and soft-spoken nerd Donnie in 03 (and Bayverse). Raph really gets to show off his more protective side in this iteration too, which i LOVE!! and everyone knows i have a huge bias for Mikey and i absolutely adore him here bc while im a fan of lil baby bro Mikey (12 and Rise) i fucking love how much more boyish and innocently insensitive he is in 03, like yeah thats a teenage boy who would sneak out to attend a rowdy party LMAO. 12 also kind of made me dislike Leo a little (again. what were the writers thinking especially with KARAI HIS SISTER??) but i loved him in Rise, so again, i was surprised that i LOVE 03 Leo, who's a lot more traditional but also has super endearingly dorky moments. and s4 Leo is just. [SCREAMS].
