man. my parents started a bookstore + coffee shop when I was a kid, sold it when I was an adolescent, bought it back when I was a teenager because that first owner didn't manage it right, sold it again when I was in college to a woman with both solid business sense and a great deal of extra money, and it's doing so well and I am just so happy every time I see it on fb

#third (I believe) oldest indie bookstore in MN by now #the current owner also did a big renovation of the building so it's multi-floor now #but the basic shape remains #the views from the back deck / coffee shop remain #having a great deal of extra money helps a lot obv #but it also just Works!#the demographics have changed a lot in the last 25 years because sprawl #but when my parents owned it it was in a very red rural small town #and was like. The Place. for anyone even remotely liberal or odd #great dynamic

i vote that next year instead of reading Dracula we do a Jeeves & Wooster Book Club. those two never got the rabid tumblr shipping fandom they deserved (disqualified for the sheer technicality of being published a century too soon). we must correct this injustice

#jeeves and wooster #i want to watch tumblr go rabid i want to watch ao3 overflow with jeeves/wooster fanfiction #yes obviously the fandom EXISTS but it's a cozy little neighborhood #a handful of talented artists and writers doing their best to keep their charming little village going #but i'm tired of cozy i want this fandom TRENDING #I WANT TO SEE THIS ON MY DASHBOARD PEOPLE #i swear to you if they made a shiny new tv series tumblr would absolutely obsess over these characters. good omens levels of obsession #it's just such a great dynamic! the good-natured overly-trusting bumbling idiot in constant need of rescuing!#the stoic all-knowing genius who quietly masterminds mayhem in order to protect this one moron he's devoted himself to for some reason #jeeves as a morosexual is just such a beautiful interpretation of the original text #wooster as a happy-go-lucky himbo who stumbles his way into a relationship with a protective caring and supremely competent mastermind #the angst and social complexities of a same-sex cross-class relationship in turn-of-the century london!#oh AND half the stories are about jeeves helping wooster get out of engagements/desperately avoid marriage #two men who live together constantly scheming to maintain their bachelorhood. this is quite literally the main plot point #the gay subtext is there! the gay subtext is there and very ripe for picking!!!#this thing is LOCKED AND LOADED we can pounce literally any time

honestly it was a red flag when bbc sherlock went “well obviously the word written in blood isn’t the german word for revenge, it’s clearly the beginning of the name ‘rachel’, what absolute idiot would fail to see that” when in the original novel it is, in fact, the german word for revenge, which sherlock points out gleefully to a roomful of policemen who all figure it’s the beginning of the name ‘rachel.’

and by red flag I mean it was a clear sign that the adaptation was trying to one-up the source material, instead of engaging with it with love.

Was anyone going to tell me that the Boy and the Heron is only the international title. The original and real title is How Do You Live?, which is the title of pre existing book that is referenced in the film. More importantly it made me stop obsessing over what makes the heron a deuteragonist so essential his bond with Mahito is crucial to the title and instead look at the themes of progressing in life and over coming grief, something I consider to be a much more moving part of the film. Deeply upset that I was working off that title which feels much blander than How Do You Live. Help
