This is only a half-formed thought but I feel like the reason I still think the Guardians in BOTW are a better enemy than the Gloom Hands in TOTK is the subversive horror of the Guardians.
The Gloom Hands writhe and scream and ooze and generally look the way we expect scary things to look. They are a pure manifestation of Ganondorf's hate, expressly sent to drain your life heart by heart.
The Guardians are silly robot guys. When they're not attacking you, they are goofy. They have funny little ears and six ridiculous legs and a round, soft looking body. They’re usually just out in a field somewhere milling about until they spot you.
But when they spot you.
That’s when that famous, pulsating music kicks in and the mad dash to kill the Guardian before it kills you begins. What gets me every time is how cold and relentless the Guardians are. The Guardians don’t try to grab or strangle you, they just blow you to hell. They keep firing, even if you take all their legs. And they don’t run like the Gloom Hands do.
It’s clinical. It’s terrifying. The Guardians don’t care about YOU. They don’t know you’re Link, Hero Of Hyrule. You’re just a heat signature, a buzzing little fly to be zapped, executed as nothing more than part of their corrupted programming. Even once beating them becomes a simple task, I still dislike fighting them. They’re not evil, just inevitable. It makes my skin crawl every time.

I badly miss the Guardians from BotW, I-I mean I was so obsessed with them and call me a sucker, I love making them as humans so... Ahh let me share my art...!

i remember your light
He never meant to get this far – what is he doing, he is not prepared, he is marching straight into Ganon’s maw, this is foolishness, but he is the Princess's fool, isn’t he, this is his task, his duty – but since he did make it this far, he will take that one more step.
Link finally gathers courage to venture inside the Hyrule Castle. Memories, duty, identity, it all comes crashing down during one fateful trip.
or: In which Link bakes Zelda a cake. Eventually.
