Genuinely considering my best friend's offer of them accompanying me to the dentist (again) should I need someone to help me keep somewhat calm because I'm terrified of someone poking around my mouth and potentially needing a hole filled (but I'd need a new appointment for that to be possible)

My orthodontist had the absolutely genius idea of telling me to stop wearing my retainers for 6 weeks to see if my teeth stayed in place. Suffice it to say that they did NOT stay in place 🤣🤣🤣🤣

side effects may include: snippet
ypiac and werewolf bunny snippets here soon!!
His mom had bought him a fresh pack of multicolored rubber bands for his braces.
Craig took his time picking out the colors he wanted (green, because green always reminded him of Tweek, and the orange was a no-brainer) and carefully applied them exactly where the orthodontist had shown him. He’d only had the braces for a week or two, and his jaw still hurt a little bit, but the deep ache he’d felt when he first got them had mostly faded, thank goodness.
Dr. Shue — the orthodontist — had told him that some pain was to be expected, especially in the beginning and after every appointment to have them tightened. He could suck on ice cubes or popsicles or gargle warm salt water until he felt a little better, but above all, he needed to practice good oral hygiene, and Craig had been doing just that. Gargling salt water had struck him as a rather dubious method and was nowhere near as soothing as the popsicles, but, Craig had to admit, it’d worked. Dr. Shue was going to be so impressed with how well he had followed his directions. Dr. Shue was really nice, not at all like the “trumped-up quack” his dad had accused him of being. His mom had told him not to pay attention to his dad; “He’s just mad he had to spend a little fucking money. And on his own kid, at that. What else is new?”
Craig bared his teeth when he was done, nodded in satisfaction, stuck his hands under the faucet, and ran his damp fingers through his hair to smooth down the flyaways. He was meeting Tweek in the park today, and he wanted to look his best.
He dressed quickly: a pair of jeans with holes torn in the knees, his favorite Red Racer tee-shirt, a vintage-style bomber jacket with a NASA logo patch sewn on the back that his mom had picked up for 15 bucks at Goodwill. The bomber jacket was at least three sizes too big for him, and he got funny looks whenever he wore it around town, but his mom assured him that he’d grow into it. He had never loved his mother more than he did the moment she pulled that jacket out of the Goodwill bag. Craig started to reach for his chullo hat and thought better of it; spring had officially sprung in South Park. It was still cold enough to see your breath puffing in front of your face in the mornings, but the thick layer of snow that had blanketed the ground for the past three or four months had melted down to dirty slush, and there were hard, green buds on all the trees.
Craig turned to his desk and carefully studied the handful of semi-precious stones he had lined up there with all the aplomb of a sommelier preparing to sample wine. He had gotten a rock tumbler for Christmas and had been tumbling the rocks that had come with the kit for weeks now, polishing them until they were smooth and shiny. Craig picked them up one by one: a chunk of pink agate with milky eyelets, a thumb-sized piece of jasper so yellow it was like holding the sun in your hand, shards of quartz in a rainbow assortment of colors. He picked up the last stone almost reverently; it was a feldspar, ocean-blue, shot-through with swirls of white and green. Craig tucked the feldspar deep in the pocket of his jeans.
He rode his bike hard to the park, skidding through puddles and crunching over last winter’s dead leaves. Craig slowed when he got to the playground, looked around, and saw Tweek sitting on the swings by himself, slowly kicking his heels back and forth.
Craig paused. Tweek hadn’t noticed him yet, his gaze absently fixed on something in the distance. Craig gawked at the other boy, his heart slamming in his chest, breathless in a way that had absolutely nothing to do with his frantic bike ride over; he hardly ever got a chance to do this, because Tweek hated when he caught him staring, but gosh, he just couldn’t help himself sometimes. Tweek was so, so pretty — he’d thought so even before the Asian girls started shipping them together, desperate and helpless, filled with a shame that had been entirely his father’s doing. He wasn’t supposed to think other boys were pretty. If he did, he was a fag, and according to his dad, that was one of the worst things you could be. Thomas had come to accept their relationship — grudgingly — but sometimes, when his dad looked at him, Craig could feel him thinking it: fag.
Craig shook off those thoughts, admiring the wild strands of his boyfriend’s platinum blond hair, the way the early morning sunlight turned it to finely spun silver and gold; Tweek shivered like a Chihuahua in a high wind, kind of looked like one, too, with his large, deep-set eyes, but Craig really liked how big they were, how green they were, like chunks of uncut malachite, the way his dark circles only made them more vivid, the way Tweek was tall and thin and stoop-shouldered and angular everywhere, but had the most graceful hands. Tweek was full of contrasts, like holding a bit of unpolished rock in his hands, feeling all the interesting textures.
Craig took a breath, got off his bike, and rolled it over to Tweek’s spot on the swing. Tweek whipped his head around, wide-eyed with panic, saw him, and relaxed by turns, gradually unclenching his jaw and lowering his shoulders. Craig smiled. Tweek didn’t, but that wasn’t unusual.
“Hi, sweetie,” he said. Craig had a bunch of pet names for Tweek: sweetie, pookie, muffin, pumpkin (never baby or babe; he wasn’t sure why, it just didn’t feel as interesting). He liked the way the names felt in his mouth, the way they rolled off his tongue, filled with endearment: sweetie, sweetie, sweetie.
“Hi — hi, Craig,” Tweek murmured.

Uuuughh my teeth huuuurt!!! Had to go to the orthodontist today for my braces. I did have elastics for my overbite, but my orthodontist wants to see what my teeth do between now and the next appointment without the elastics in. Weird feeling cause I've had them for like. 6 or so months. Four weeks without the elastics. Yay. Less pain for my jaw I suppose.

Day 1 on the Jen cares about Jen train -
Started the morning at 6 am…. Up and at em getting the kids ready for school. I make it easy on myself and have their bags and lunches packed the night before and lay out their clothes as well.
C took Jamis and I take Lilith a little later on Mondays so we can have a leisure morning getting ready. I dropped her off at 8:30 and made the 9 am yoga. It is was a great class. Sweat my arse off and it felt really good.
I stopped by co-op and picked up the plants I needed for the garden, replacement lavender as mine died this past winter in a below zero freeze we had and headed back across town to drop J’s lunch at school - getting back in the swing of things is hard and C forgot it lol
Then I came home and planted -
Tumblr media
The garden is in!!! I picked up these raised beds a couple years ago on clearance…. We put them together, finally, in March and filled them with dirt from my dads.
I planted all kinds of things…. Brussel sprouts, pole beans, okra, tomatoes, carrots, cantaloupe, watermelon, strawberries, a variety of sweet peppers, poblanos, egg plant, zucchini, spaghetti squash…. I think there’s more but I can’t remember.
We are hosting a baby shower for some friends of ours this coming weekend so I have been systemically cleaning parts of the house I sometimes ignore - cough, cough, the kids rooms, cough. I did J’s yesterday and L’s today. I haven’t gone through their closets, or clothes to change out for the seasons, but I changed their sheets, picked up all the toys so you can see the floor and finished up all the laundry. It’s not that it takes a super long time, it just takes time, which I seem in short supply of.
Then I went to my orthodontist appointment for my Invisalign. Guys!!!!! They took off all my attachments and buttons, et al today - it feels so good to have smooth teeth again. I can’t describe it unless you know about it first hand, it’s just so nice. They are making me a retainer, which I’ll wear for 6 months during the day and another for night sleeping. Finito. It was SUPPOSED to be 12-18 months and it’s been 27. It was getting long in the tooth, pun intended. Here’s to hoping no more snags… she even ground down some uneven spots and it seems unreal to have straight and even teeth. Happy camper over here!
It took much longer that anticipated and I had to leave before finishing x-rays to head BACK across town again to pick up Lilith for her ballet class. She has another week of class then season ending performance next weekend. I take the time she’s in her lesson to walk the neighborhood there as they don’t let you in for practice. I typically can get in 2 miles, which I did today, and that always feels good.
I was able to do all the things on my to do list. Go to a yoga, get in a walk, drink my water and we even had family dinner together tonight.
Feeing accomplished and hopeful for heading back into work. They caused some stress my first week off requiring things so urgently it supposedly couldn’t wait until I returned tomorrow, and I verified with the team nothing else was needed, fingers crossed I don’t walk in to a hot mess in the morning.
No hot messes for us team xx

Had a super awkward dental appointment today, my new dentist kept complimenting my teeth, he even called in another dentist and orthodontist and they were asking if I ever had braces and were shocked when I said I never had them everyone in my family just has good natural teeth. I just wanted my annual teeth cleaning. THE ANXIETY i felt having some random ass teeth doctors all excited over my teeth. Also…I need to top you so bad.
dentists are so funny because i dont know a single dentist who isnt genuinely passionate abt teeth. like in have doctor friends who are like whatever ok spleens. but dentists LOVE teeth they LOVE flossing. also ok come over

Charlie hadn't been eating.
Chris had realized it on the second day it'd been going on for, sitting across from him at the dinner table and having already worked his way through half a pizza on his own. The other teenager was at softball practice and dad had taken Jay to an orthodontist appointment, so it was just the two of them. He'd already noted the night before when washing dishes that Charlie's plate had been particularly full. There was a slice of pepperoni in front of him now, but he seemed wholly uninterested, instead picking at the edge of the paper plate with a faraway look in his eyes. Chris frowned. That never meant anything good was coming.
"You sick or something?" He asked, and his little brother startled in response. Charlie looked across the table at him with wide eyes, then slumped back in his seat, shaking his head.
"No," he said sullenly. "I'm just not hungry."
"Olay," Chris said, "but you should be. Did you even eat at school today?" There was a twist of a frown on Charlie's lips. He never ate at school and Chris knew that. When all he got was a shake of the head, Chris leaned across the table and gave the plate a small flick. "Then eat. Dad'll kill me if you go passing out from malnutrition or some shit."
Charlie looked like he was considering it, grimacing down at the food that'd been set in front of him, but it was already clearly a losing battle. He just shook his head again, and this time he crossed his arms as he slimped back, pushing the chair just slightly away from the table with his feet. "If I am sick, does that mean I don't gotta go to school tomorrow?"
Giving up on getting food down his throat, Chris stood, picking up his own plate and starting towards the kitchen. "What's wrong with school?" He asked, leaning into the doorway to drop the plate into the trash, then moving back to close up the pizza boxes on the table. He glanced at Charlie to see him shrug. "Semester's just started. It can't be that bad, yet."
Charlie mumbled something. Chris fought the urge to roll his eyes, instead leaning his palms on the table and giving him a level stare.
"What was that?" He asked. Something else mumbled, though all he heard was Vi. He leaned forward. "What? Jesus, Charlie, speak up."
"Vi's not there!" He finally burst, his gaze meeting Chris'. His eyes were beginning to well up and the mild annoyance Chris has felt before turned into a squeeze of concern. He did realize now that he hadn't seen Vi in a few days, either. It'd been maybe a week by now, actually. It was strange for the kid to not come around. Softening a little, Chris tilted his head to study Charlie's face.
"What d'you mean, he's not there? Did somethin' happen to him?"
Charlie cringed in on himself that made Chris' heart really start to pump. Surely, if he'd gotten hurt or something, they'd all know by now. That mother of his would've stopped by. Hell, Charlie probably would've been taken out of school to be with him. The two of them were inseparable. Instead he was sitting at the dining table and starting to sniffle.
"Charlie?" Chris asked carefully. His brother shook his head. "Dude, tell me what happened. Do I need to call dad?"
Charlie shook his head again, but this time he was clearly struggling to say something. The effort finally paid off. "They- they sent him away."
"Sent him away?" Not hurt, then, but still phrased in a scary way. He frowned. "The hell does that mean?"
"To a- a boarding school, or somethin'," Charlie said, and then it clicked. Vi's rich parents had sent him off to some fancy school. Chris felt the worry deflate. Sure, private school didn't exactly sound fun, but it wasn't worth going without dinner over.
"Jesus christ, man," Chris said, straightening up and picking up the pizza boxes. "That's not the end of the world. All you've gotta do is give him a call. It's probably not even that far. You scared the shit out of me, you know that?"
Charlie shrugged. This time, Chris did roll his eyes, and he gave his brother a gentle kick under the table before he moved to carry the boxes back into the kitchen. "Get started on your homework before dad gets home. Then go call Vi or whatever, I'm not dealin' with like this." He started to turn away, paused, then swore at himself. He'd regret this later but he said it anyway. "And if you're gonna go see him, just let me know when you're gonna need a ride. Alright?"
He glanced back at his brother. Charlie was scrubbing at his face, but he glanced at him long enough to give him a nod. "Alright," he said softly.
"Good," Chris told him. He stepped into the kitchen and left Charlie to mope.

karma is fun >:)
So, my sister/roommate and I both had orthopedic appointments today, along with the rest of our sibs.
I woke up and got ready to go first thing to take care of a client before our appointment, and only had enough time to dart home and grab a thing before we had to go to our parents' house to join the rest who were going to the appointment.
Technically, I reasoned, we could take a bus to the offices, but the Mother ordered elseways and I wasn't up to challenging her this morning. So, we show up at fam's house as they finish lunch. I walk up to the table and catch Bambi's eyes and just grin and say "howdy", knowing she'll catch the Lu reference in it because it just updated and we had't gotten to talk about it yet, and she immediately lights up with recognition (and maybe a little at just seeing me? we're pretty close and can't see each other often), so we spent the next while chattering
My mom, despite having ten children, does not like chatter. We were scolded repeatedly for talking too fast and with too much energy. This is a normal occurrence. i have no clue why she has children, because they stress her out so much.
The thing is, my room-mate/sister does not like that Bambi and I are close. When we both go over, Bambi and I talk because we are the two siblings with the most in common and we actually share an interest. My other sister however does not share our experiences/interests, but still complains that I "monopolize" Bambi's time.
I have spoken with Bambi about it and she has informed me that if she didn't want to talk to me, she wouldn't, and she does, in fact, choose who to talk to for herself. Additionally, she is frustrated at the other sister's need to talk to her, because the only things she wants to discuss are things that make Bambi uncomfortable or that she finds boring. Whereas I provide LU crap and we can throw ideas at each other and bounce back with more stuff and make each other happy
However, regardless of Bambi's take on it, our sister has made a point (every time we are both with the family) of complaining (loud enough that I can hear) to our parents that I'm hogging Bambi (like she is a doll) and she and my mom spent the drive to the orthodontist complaining about me loud enough for me to hear, which, rude.
Naturally, I was not in a good mood because of this. Even more so when, because the other sister wanted to run a few errands, I got dragged to the other side of town and ended up being late to a client's place when I really ought to have been able to get there on time if I had been allowed to walk over to them.
This after my room-mate has complained loudly to others that "Ketto hardly says a word at home, but when she's around Bambi she's all of a sudden a chatterbox" (because the idea of loosening up with people who appreciate you is apparently foreign to my family), got my mom to complain about me in front of my younger siblings, and also snapped at me and purposefully went out of her way to try to physically get between Bambi and I so we couldn't be near each other in order to prevent us talking.
I'm trained to step back and let other people take whatever the heck they want, so I did, but gosh dang it I wanted to cry when I left the fam to go see my client today.
But karma got my back :)
I got to relax while playing crib after I finished cleaning for my client, and we also watched Jeopardy together. He also wished me a Happy Valentines and gave me chocolate (he's 90, so it's not weird or flirty, he's just being a grandpa figure) and then I dressed up and took myself to dinner.
I took me on a lovely moonlight stroll in the snow and had a great dinner and desert for a reasonable price, and was provided with great service at a little place not far from where I live.
My sister/roommate took a friend out to dinner (because despite complaining about me hogging our sister, she's the only one between us with a social life) at a fancy restaurant, and came home to tell me that the food was bad and overpriced and that her evening was disappointing.
Not to be an ass, but I think she deserved it LOL

good luck at your dental appointment! i haven’t had one in a while. i used to have braces, they got taken off in october, and now i am very relieved i don’t have to see the orthodontist every month anymore.
Good for you! I'm just having a tooth cleaning, and I'm glad its today and not tomorrow cause I have 2 dr appointments. 1 for my physical, and the other for my ankle. Tomorrow will be absolute chaos lmao.

invisalign half way check-in
today was my half point check-in at my orthodontist. my first round of trays is a total of 40 trays + 4 extra trays to act as retainers while my second round of trays are being made. i am at the halfway point (tray #20), so my orthodontist wanted to check in to make sure my my teeth are moving correctly and tracking the way they're supposed to.
in some cases, the align technology doesn't correctly predict how your teeth will move. a check-in is important as i have seen videos where ppl's teeth aren't tracking correctly and they have to have the attachments removed, teeth scanned again, and have a whole new set of trays made. which sometimes makes their invisalign journey longer than anticipated.
however, i was very lucky today! i sat in the chair, the assistant laid me back, and looked at my teeth and said "oh wow! your teeth are tracking perfectly!" and a small part of me worried that something terrible would happen at this appointment 😅 gotta love anxiety, so when she said my teeth were perfect, I was so relieved! she also said i'm taking excellent care of my trays 😁
the orthodontist came in and looked at my teeth as well and he said that my teeth look great! he can tell that i brush my teeth well and my teeth are right on track to finish my first round of trays in august, just as scheduled!
so, what happens next?
i'm to finish the second half of my trays (#21-#40) and after i finish this first round of trays, my teeth should be mostly aligned! i have an appointment to look at my teeth and see what needs to be done next to get my teeth perfect in august!
you mean you're not done after 40 trays?
nope! and this is very common when you have invisalign comprehensive, like i do! there could be lots of rounds of refinements! refinements can include IPR (inter-proximal reduction), where they shave a little enamel off between your teeth (it doesn't hurt) to make space for your teeth to fit tighter together. more sets of trays to do smaller more exact movements to get your teeth in the exact right places. these next rounds of trays are not an extra cost to my treatment. my treatment plan includes refinements! i believe up to 5 rounds of refinements is included. most cases don't require that many, usually 2-3 rounds.
i have been really enjoying having invisalign! my experience won't be the same as someone else's, but overall, very positive and easy to do! i like having a routine and i know when i'm done with my treatment, i'm going to miss changing my trays and brushing them, etc. and i know some ppl find things like this really mundane and boring. so i guess that's why they say invisalign isn't for everyone 😅
EDIT: i forgot to say that eating has gotten so much easier! i remember feeling really daunted by the idea of eating with my trays in. i have really learned what foods stain your teeth and that crunchy foods are really ripping your enamel apart 😭 kraft mac and cheese... is a NO GO W/ A NEW TRAY! your tray will be HIGHLIGHTER yellow 😂 this is due to the turmeric that gives the mac and cheese it's yellow color. some hot sauces also stained my trays, especially chili oil. what else... tomato/vegetable soups! that staining isn't terrible or super noticeable, but it does happen. and crunchy foods. i had no idea that i favored one side of my mouth when i eat, the right side was tearing up faster than my left. anyway, crunchy foods, chips, pretzel sticks, cereal, really tear up the back of my trays. i thought it was due to grinding my teeth in my sleep, but i did an experiment where i didn't eat ANYTHING crunchy while i had a new tray in and i had no tearing. it's the crunchy foods that's doing it, tearing up the first layer of plastic, but not causing the tray to break. it's mostly uncomfortable and rough when you run your tongue across it, but it's totally normal!
anyway, i suppose i'll update again when I have my appointment in august! remember, it's okay if you don't read any of this 😂 i hope you're doing well, please stay safe out there, and stay hydrated my friends! 💖

Today the universe gave me the best gift you could possibly imagine, in the form of a trip to my new orthodontist. I was terrified, however my orthodontist turned out to be: a) a man b) in his mid 50s c) from Belarus and therefore possessing an east European accent that was suspiciously close to Lithuanian. The Hannibal girlies will understand my palpable joy.
Some of his commentary highlights:
“There’s a good girl” (in response to me trying to relax my jaw on command whilst my mouth is being probed by a camera)
“you’re doing very well” (in response to me trying not to flinch as some kind of painful scraping device is run over my hypo-plastic molars)
“Oh your Una’s daughter!!” Then later, “It was so nice to meet Una’s very beautiful daughter” (my mother is a dentist, she somehow knows almost every single dentist working in our local area)
“Right Princess, this is what we will do” (whilst showing me a simulation of my teeth before and after treatment and explaining the next steps)
Was I in nerve splitting pain for a lot of this? Yeah. Was it one of the most comforting experiences I’ve had in weeks? Yeah. Is this my therapy now? Yeah.
Anyway my concluding thoughts are that the Hannibal fanfic writing community desperately needs to jump on the ‘Hannibal is an orthodontist/dentist’ train. He gave me a strawberry sugar free lollipop and a pat on the head at the end of my appointment and I am not 100% sure its not made from human blood, thats all I’m saying.
