Day 1, November 12th, "To the Sunshine and the Fruit of the Vine" (Edmonton): A day dedicated to the first, rural incarnation of Reeve's Orpheus in the Edmonton era of Hadestown

Day 2, November 13th, "Always had a Crowd" (London): A day dedicated to London's stylish rockstar incarnation of Reeve's Orpheus, who never walked alone

Day 3, November 14th, "Touched by the Gods" (Broadway): A day dedicated to the Broadway incarnation of Reeve's Orpheus, the sweet bartender who lives under Hermes's wing

Day 4, November 15th, "I Believe in Us Together" (Love/Relationships): A day dedicated to Orpheus's relationships in general, whether with Eurydice, Hermes, Persephone, the Workers, even an OC!

Day 5, November 16th, "If It's True what They Say" (Grief/Poverty): A day dedicated to Orpheus's circumstances and lowest points in his life

Orphic Reincarnations: I. Roots (Edmonton)

For @reevepheusweek Day 1: "To the sunshine and fruit of the vine." This is the first part of a triptych of poems focusing on the various incarnations of Orpheus in the Edmonton, London, and Broadway productions. I almost titled it "Reeve In-Carney-ations," but I decided the pun was a bit too clever for its own good.

I. Roots

 When he asks her to come home with him, Eurydice looks into dust- speckled eyes and sees plains, rolling fields lain fallow, patiently awaiting the age-old rhythm of seasons. Her poet has a soul like the land. He cannot hear the hunger in the storm, the scavengers it scatters in its wake. Look at the sky! she begs. Eyes earthbound, he replies, This is our home.

Even on the long walk out of Hades, nature sustains his hope. When he turns, it is as natural as a flower turning its face to the sun, and the laughter he hears on the wind is not the Fates, but the children who might have grown from this ground and called it home.

Hello eerna! I've never seen Hadestown but would love to - unfortunately i live in central europe and can't afford to go see it irl lol, do you have any recommendation for watching a recording? 👉👈

Hiii! I feel ya, I am from southern Europe and spent 5 years experiencing the show through bootlegs and my American friends. I saw it for the first time as soon as it arrived in London earlier this year because the Ryanair flight was 50 euro.

First off, there are no official video recordings of the show available to the public and we must rely on bootlegs. Second off, Hadestown as a musical exists in several formats - NYTW, Edmonton, London, and Broadway (also performed on West End) and all of them have boots. All of these are super different, and I assume you're looking for the final version, which is Broadway. You'll recognize it by Eurydice wearing black and Orpheus wearing a red neckerchief. Here's where to find the videos.

Hadestown Broadway previews 2019 - My fav recording of the show, so I rec it as the first you'll watch. It's not the same as the official soundtrack or any of the other Broadway recordings. You can see the facial expressions perfectly and it has my fav cut lyrics in it. My first Hadestown boot was a 2018 London one, but I didn't truly fall in love with the show until I saw this.

This post. It offers another Broadway boot I haven't seen anywhere else, but also NYTW and Edmonton boots if you're curious.

And finally. If you go on youtube and look for a playlist called "Hadestown full and slime productions" by user Katie Lawrence you'll get a bunch of other bootlegs of Broadway and London, as well as multicam edits.
