Break Through Au
Word Count: 1.6k
Summary: You go out ice skating on the lake with your brothers and Things don’t go as planned for you three
Warnings: CPR/Death, Falling through Ice, Hospitals, Yelling
—----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You were on the ice with your brothers Will and Jay, even though you weren’t allowed to, you guys still went regardless.
It was 10pm, no one would be out here to get in your way or yell at you to get off the ice.
“Cmon Y/n/n, it's better out here” Jay said while attempting to slide farther out to the lake.
“I don’t know Jay, I kinda wanna stay over here. That way I get off easier than struggling to get off if I'm way over there.” you shrugged.
“Alright then, me and will be over there if you need us' ' He pointed towards the middle of the lake.
“Alright, I’m just gonna slide around.” You shivered. Maybe I should work more layers. You thought to yourself.
After a while you got bored and decided to go over to Will and Jay who were “fighting” over who got the better hockey stick.
Will pulled out his phone and checked the time. “Guys it’s 11 o'clock, she should head home now, if we all get a cold moms gonna know that we went outside without asking her, especially if Y/n gets sick”
“But I'm getting good at hockey,” you whined.
Will and Jay just have you that look. “Alright alright let’s go” You caved.
Because your brothers were better on ice than you were, they went up ahead of you.
“GUYS! I'M NOT AS FAST AS YOU SLOW DO-“ Before you could finish your sentence a loud Crack interrupted you.
That made the two Halstead brothers come to a halt and turn around to you. “No,” Jay whispered. “Y/n don’t move, just stay still we’ll come to you”
Before you could say anything the Ice broke.
Jays pov:
“Y/N, SHIT NO” I screamed, my little sister just fell through the ice.
Me and Will immediately slide over to where she fell in and I immediately throw my whole arm in the freezing water to see if I can feel Y/n
“Give me your other arm so I can pull you once you get her!” Will shouts.
“Once I touch something that feels semi to a human arm I pull. I can tell it’s Y/n because once I pull I feel a bit of weight.
“PULL WILL, PULL”
Once we were towards the edge of the Lake I pick y/n up bridal style and rushed over to land.
“Put her down here.” Will says.
“What the hell do we do?” I cry
“She’s not breathing, Jay, you need to run back to the house and call someone” Wills is studying medicine so he knows a couple of things about what to do in a life or death situation.
“WHO DO I CALL?” I shout
“I DO GIVE A FUCK, CALL 9-1-1 AND HURRY”
My body moves into autopilot as I’m running through the forest making sure I don’t trip on any rocks or roots.
My legs are burning and I can’t breathe but I can’t stop, if I stop Y/ns gonna die and it’ll be all my fault.
As I reach the house I punch in the code to the door and run upstairs to my bedroom.
I basically almost threw my  phone into the air while trying to pick it up.
“9-1-1 what’s your emergency?”
“It’s -it’s my sister, she fell into the lake and I don’t know if she’s breathing”
“Check if she has a pulse”
“My older brother is with her at the lake, he-he's studying medicine so he knows what he’s doing”
“What’s your name sweetheart?”
“Uhh jay, my names Jay”
“Alright Jay, How old is your sister and how long was she under water for?”
“I don’t- 5 minutes maybe, and her name is Y/n, but we all call her Y/n/n. I don't know what I’m gonna tell my mom, that my littler sister died because we didn’t listen to her?” I’m panicking.
“Jay, I’m gonna need you to take a deep breath, I have help coming on the way right now”
How did she get my location? I didn’t even tell her.
***
The paramedics arrived and Jay led them to the lake where Will was with you.
Will did successfully get you back but you were still unconscious.
Why didn’t we just listen?
***
“15 Year old Female Y/n Halstead, Hypothermia after falling through ice, Was unconscious on site and Has a history of Heart issues.” The paramedic listed off all the things
(Ik that Grey's anatomy is in Seattle but because the show is so old let’s just pretend that this happened with them, it’s been awhile since I’ve watched it so if I make mistakes Woops)
“Alright,on my count if we move her. 1…2…3”Alex said.
Alex looked you over and started telling Jo things to do. “I want a head Ct, Keep me updated on her temperature and get me Derek for a consult.” Jo nodded.
Jay and Will followed Dr. Karev outside. “Is she gonna be ok?” Jay asked.
“She’s not out of the woods yet, but we won’t know more until she wakes up which will be a couple of hours”
***
“Jay Halstead and Will Halstead” A stern voice called to them that made them Gulp.
“What in the world happened, and why did the Atwater’s call me and say that something happened on the lake and I needed to come home?” Your Mom stoked with her hands on her hips.
Jay and Will glanced at each other and knew they had no way out of this so they just decided to tell the truth and get it over with.
“I have told you guys time and time again not to play on that lake during the winter,
If you want to go ice skating go to the bigger one. Y/n has been punished enough, and as for you too, just until we get home, me and your father Will real with you. Do you understand?”
“Yes mom,” The boys said together.
“Alright, either the Atwater’s or the Uptons are going to pick you guys up and take you home. I will stay here with your sister, your father should be at home by now”
“But mom-“ Jay said. “No buts, wait here”
***
It had been a couple of weeks since the incident and A lot had happened.
You were on the News, people came to your school and spoke about Ice safety. Jay and Will were indeed grounded but only for two weeks. The lake was now closed off while they were still doing an investigation. Which you didn’t understand why because it’s not like anything else happened but it was whatever.
“Y/n hurry up you’re going to miss the bus!” Jay shouted from downstairs.
“HOLD ON IM COMING” You grabbed your backpack and ran down the stairs.
After getting all your stuff in your backpack you got all your stuff ready to walk to the bus stop.
“Alright, what’s the rules?” Will questioned you.
“No wandering off to the other lake, don’t take off my jackets unless I really need to and don’t get anything that will drop my body temperature”
“Good.”
“Do you still have to put my hat and Jacket on for me? I’m 15 years old.”
“Because of recent events and mom being gone and I’m going to leave soon I need to make sure you're ok, plus your body temperature is still not to its normal temp yet so layers it is.” You rolled your eyes at what would be said.
“I will pick you up for your doctor's appointment maybe 30 minutes before school ends, and Jay will drop your lunch off at the front office” Will said as he started walking at the door.
“Bye will see you later”
Once Will was gone, you ate the last of your waffles and grabbed your hot chocolate or what Jays calls “Jay's famous Hot chocolate” but it tasted like any other drink.
***
“I miss having you out on the lake by the middle school” Your friend Ellie said.
“Me too, but ever since my mom died Will and Jay have been strict on what I can do since my dad won’t really do much and they're trying to get me to learn stuff before Will leaves for New York and Jay leaves to serve” You shrugged.
“But I did convince Jay to get you some fries and nuggets” You laughed
“You are literally the best, I really didn’t feel like spending all my money in my account today” Yeah the school food was expensive but it’s because you guys had fast food restaurants in your cafeteria so I guess it made sense.
***
“Hey Nugget” Will greeted you as you got into the car.
“Hi Will, can we please get McDonald’s after my appointment?”
“Sure, where’s Jay? I told him he could get out of school early since he has a free period this week.”
“He said he wanted to stay at school, so he’s probably just walking around the hallways or doing whatever Jay does” You shrugged.
You thought about it for a while, your life was somewhat falling apart. Will was leaving for New York. Jay was getting deployed so you weren’t gonna see him. And your mom was gone so all you had left was your Dad, and your dad wasn’t the best person now since your dad died.
“Hey Will?”You broke the silence
“Yeah Nugget?”
“I’m- I’m gonna miss you when you leave” Here comes the water works.
“Me too Y/n me too”
Life from now on was going to be way different for you , and everyone around you knew that. You were going to get through it and it was going to be Ok. Right?
Well that’s at least what you thought…

TW: Domestic abuse/violence. If this triggers you, do not read this story, as this is a recurring theme in the story. Lots of love 💕
Evelyn Jones-Lesmono is the wife of Superintendent Gary Jones. While their marriage seems picture perfect, it's not all sunshine and rose petals. Quite the contrary even. When sergeant Voight and his team have to investigate Gary Jones, they realize Evelyn and her daughter Audrey are in more danger than Voight could've thought.

(@urxsavinggracex for Voight)
It had been several days since the last time Desiree had seen Hank. They hadn't communicated or seen each other since that last case that had been dropped onto the team involving innocent children being murdered and so much distrust between everyone. The brass had ordered the entire team to get psych evaluations and deal with their trauma from that case. Everyone else had gone willingly, except Hank and Desiree. They'd been dealing with it on their own. In their own kind of way.
Hank walks into PD looking different and Desiree notices. She watches him head to his office and get situated for the day. She had to check up on him. "Hey, you alright? You look different." Des leans against the door and drinks in his appearance. She starts at the slight stubble on his face and works her way down to the slightly unbuttoned, short sleeved work shirt he wore and the dark colored jeans and belt as usual. Topped off with boots on his feet. "It looks good on you though." She comments. "I've missed you..." She looks down at the ground for a moment.
Unprompted ask | Always Accepting
@urxsavinggracex
Hank had been drinking and not really sleeping and barely eating. He refused to get a psych evaluation and knows the brass will be on his ass until he does or until he quits in a fit of rage. He misses Desiree but feels too broken to reach out to her. So he just stays in his house.
He walks with his head up but a broken look on his face, like he was crying moments ago. He doesn't close his door as he walks into his office. He stands by his filing cabinet putting his gun and badge away before sitting down behind his desk. He puts his head into his hands and lets out a shaky breath that he didn't realize he was holding. He looks up when he hears her voice.
"I'm fine." He grunts, slowly looking up at her. "I wanted to try something new." Truthfully he couldn't be bothered to change his clothes so he may or may not be wearing the same clothes from yesterday.
"I've missed you too."

This is something personal to me and I just wanna see what you think maybe how voight would react as he’s my favorite
Voight finds out your boyfriend beat on you while you were pregnant
this work discusses aspects of domestic violence under the cut. please do not read if this triggers you, and if you need help at getting out of an abusive relationship, the domestic violence hotline for the USA is 800-799-7233. please seek out help if you need it and remember that it is not your fault. abusers are terrible, gross excuses of human beings.
i hope that this headcanon for voight treats this with the respect and sensitivity it deserves, and that you're doing okay, anon. i'm so sorry you went/are going through something like this, and i'm sending love, strength and healing to you.
hank voight has a special hatred for domestic abusers.
he thinks they're cowards, scum of the earth. to him, any person who would willingly treat another human being like that doesn't deserve to live. hank helps out the victims when he can, offering money, his number, whatever they need. he knows that it's not easy to leave.
when you first started dating hank, and you found out about his reputation in the streets of chicago, you couldn't believe what you were hearing. hank had been nothing but a gentleman, so sweet and kind to you. he accepted the fact that you ahd a daughter without hesitation, and he had even helped you out from time to time with her. hank was nothing short of a good man.
he finds out about your past when he finds you on the floor of his apartment one day, frantically cleaning up the shards from a glass you'd dropped. when you look up and see him looming over you, you're nothing short of terrified, frantically apologizing and swearing that you won't do it again, that you'll pay for it. he's so confused, but at the same timehe knows. he knows what you've been through. he knows the mental scars you have, and his heart shatters into a million pieces at the thought of someone hurting you.
he holds out his hand and helps you step over the glass, bringing you away from it. you're caught off guard when he sits you on the couch, and he doesn't freak out. he tells you that you're okay, that a glass can be replaced wth ease. he asks about your past, and you know thaat you can't hide it from him any longer. you don't shy away from any details, opening up fully to him. he doesn't move to hold you until you lean into his chest, curling up into a ball on his lap. hank holds you, and he silently vows to hunt the bastard down himself if he has to.
should you decide to file a report, he's there. he's there for you every step of the way, protecting you, keeping you and your daughter safe. not only that, but intelligence is working the case. the unit comes over, talking with you and letting you know that practically the whole of district 21 is behind you. everyone knew that if you messed with one member of intelligence's family, you messed with them all. and to intelligence, you and your baby girl were family.
hank voight holds your hand in court up until you get up to testify. your eyes are fixed on him, your hand holds the pin he gave you to keep you grounded on the stand. as you break down, detailing all of the horrors you faced, both pregnant and not, the whole of intelligence's heart breaks for you. and yet, hank is stone cold. he knows this bastard will get what's coming, and he has to be strong for you. as he meets your eyes as you finish, he smiles at you. he's so proud of how brave you were, how you found the courage to do what most couldn't.
the whole team has their arms around you as the verdict is read out, and when it's "guilty," you've never felt so relieved. they hold you tight, so happy that the system worked out for someone. and that night, when you go home, you spend the night with hank and your baby, finally feeling safe to walk the streets again.
hank voight has a special hatred for domestic abusers, but he has a special place in his heart for those who speak up. and since he's met you, his efforts to help those who are trapped in a relationship have doubled. whenever he tells you of another woman he's helped, you always hug him a little tighter, a little closer.
hank is everything that your ex wasn't, and you're incredibly, incredibly grateful.

Hank Voight x Fem!Reader
(TW: Some violence and implied sexual abuse/[worse], but nothing explicitly said)
Hank’s eyes surveyed the crime scene. A murder, of someone quite important to the mayoral candidate. This was a high-visibility case, which Hank hated. That meant more people telling him how to do his job.
Hank crouched beside the body, the body of a young girl who had been practically mutilated. Tortured in all of the worst ways. Hank could only imagine what her last moments must have felt like. Something nobody should experience. Something he promised himself he would make the culprit experience, one way or another.
His eyes moved up as he stood, listening to Antonio telling him about the case. “We have no witnesses, apparently. At least, none who are willing to talk.”
Hank huffed in protest. “She was dumped in the middle of the street. Someone has to know something.”
“They won’t cooperate,” Antonio replied, shaking his head as he put his notebook and pen away. “Damn shame, too.” He then walked away to talk to some of the other officers.
Hank looked out over the crowd of people behind the yellow tape. They were watching and chattering amongst themselves, all except one woman. She stood there, facing Sergeant Voight, arms wrapped around herself. She had her hood up, hair blowing in the breeze to cover part of her face. As Hank looked at her, they locked eyes. She seemed to curl into herself as she moved backward, disappearing into the crowd. Hank hummed, musing to himself over the woman and her behavior as he looked over the crowd in an attempt to find her. When he found the effort to be futile, he moved away from the scene in the opposite direction, getting into his car and heading to the district.
— —
The case dragged on, dead end evidence everywhere they looked. Without a witness to put the criminal at the scene, all they had was circumstantial at best. Hank rubbed his forehead with one hand, taking in a deep breath as he poured over the paperwork again. It didn’t help that the folks in the ivory tower were breathing down his neck, watching his every move.
The bullpen was empty, as everyone else had gone home for the night. Hank knew he should leave too, but he needed answers. He needed to find the killer.
“Hank,” came a familiar voice. Strong but gentle, he knew it to be Trudy. He didn’t look up to meet her eyes, simply grunting in response. “Hank,” she insisted.
He sighed, looking up from the files to look at his friend and coworker, only to see a woman beside her, the same woman from the crime scene. She had her hair in front of her face, but her hood was down this time. She still curled into herself, as if at any moment she would be attacked. Hank stood to greet her, looking her over. “You were at the scene.”
“Then you know why I’m here,” the woman replied. “I’m (Y/N).” She reached out to shake his hand.
“(Y/N),” he repeated. “Sergeant Hank Voight.”
“I know,” she replied softly, Trudy nodding to Hank and leaving as (Y/N) sat down across from his desk. “You were there the night Emilia was murdered.”
“Did you know Emilia?”
“Yes. I was her babysitter, back when she was younger. We grew close in the last few years. I just graduated college.”
Hank hummed as he leaned back in his chair, crossing his arms to listen to the girl in front of him. “And?”
“And…” She sighed heavily, rubbing her arms. “I saw them murder her. They said if I talked…” She looked away, flashing back to the terrible memory that had kept her awake.
“Please, please!” She begged, crying and kneeling before the two men who had just mutilated her friend. “Please, please don’t kill me, please! I-I’m a nobody! I don’t have family!”
“Kill the bitch!” The first man said, obviously in a rush, since they’d left Emilia’s body in the street.
“Andy, she’s begging for her life! Let’s just get out of here.”
Andy growled, grabbing (Y/N) by the collar. “If you go to the cops, speak to the cops, or call the cops, you know what I’ll do to you? Huh? I’ll tie you down and cut out your tongue. Then, I’ll do all those nasty things to you that you see in the movies. I’ll make you suffer, more than your friend.”
“(Y/N)?” Hank had since stood, putting a hand on her shoulder and leaning down to her. “What did they say?”
“They said… They’d cut out my tongue… Do horrible things… Then make me suffer, more than Emilia did.” She took in a ragged breath, looking up at Hank.
Finally, he could see the light on her face, her hair moving back to reveal a black eye. Hank tucked her hair behind her ear, gently pressing his fingers to her chin, maneuvering her face so he could see better. “Did they do this to you?”
“Last night, when I was at home, they came in and threatened me again. They said the cops were getting close, and said that if I talked, I was dead.” She swallowed hard, tear welling in her eyes as she looked up at Hank. “They hit me and… And then they left.”
“Is that all they did?”
She swallowed hard, moving back from his grip and looking down, letting her hair fall back into her face. Silence washed over the both of them, (Y/N) pulling tighter into herself, clinging for life as she re-lived the night before.
Hank let out a soft breath, then crouched in front of her. “Hey… You did the right thing,” he reassured her, a tender hand on her leg, the other resting on her arm. “I’ll take care of you.”
She sniffled and took in a deep breath, nodding. “I know your reputation on the street. I asked around about you. If you give me your word… if you promised to protect me… I would believe you.” She looked up a bit, her eyes meeting his.
Hank nodded in response, looking up into her eyes. “I promise.”

Hank Voight x Reader Oneshot
Prompt: Fear
(TW: Slight implication of SA, but nothing explicitly mentioned - 2nd person, mostly angst and some fluff)
You ran through the woods, panting.
Your chest was aching in pain, heart pounding heavily against your rib cage. It pounded loud in your ears and in your head, making you want to bury yourself, just to get away from it. It felt like your heart was trying to escape from your chest, pounding, pounding, pounding…
Your chest tightened, your lungs being unable to fill the whole way. You couldn’t afford to stop, to take in a much-needed deep breath. You had to keep running, to keep going, even if it meant your lungs aching in protest at the lack of oxygen to supply your body with.
Meanwhile, your muscles were constricting. They tightened with each passing step, barely loosening enough for you to take the next one. They begged you to stop, threatening to tighten up for good if you didn’t rest. But, how could you rest? How could you when you were running for your life?
The only thing keeping you going was the adrenaline coursing through your veins due to the active footsteps behind you, matching pace. You couldn’t run any faster, and you could feel yourself getting nowhere. You cried out, screaming into the dark woods, hoping someone, anyone would hear you.
The fear of being caught was overwhelming, to say the least. It weaved itself into every fiber of your being, engulfing you like a hot flame would engulf a piece of paper. It burned into you, making the hairs on your neck and arms stand up on edge. You knew this was a loosing fight, but the fear kept you going, trying to run from the man behind you.
You felt something snake around your waist, stopping you in your tracks. You panted heavily, fatigued, knowing it was over. His strong arms squeezed the breath out of you. Defeated, you wound up on the ground, the man on top of you in the dark. You could barely breathe, your head spinning and body aching. He seemed so far away, and yet, here he was, doing the worst things you could imagine to your body.
You heard him say your name, and it sent chills through your spine. You wanted to protest, but you were weak - too weak to move any more. Even if you got him off you, you wouldn’t be able to run. You had nowhere to go. The fight was futile once again, like it was every day and night.
He said your name again, this time stronger, and his voice sounded different. It sounded too deep to be the man who was chasing you. You whimpered in soft protest, feeling arms on your shoulders, moving you. He spoke your name over and over, each time his voice getting louder. It wasn’t his voice. It was someone else’s.
-
When you opened your eyes, you took in a sharp breath and sat up, looking around. The overhead light was off, but the lamp beside you was on, shining a soft and shadowy glow over the room. You panted, hands coming to your body, roaming to find any injuries, only to find there were none. You realized where you were, looking around as your eyes landed on Hank. He was sitting beside you, brow furrowed with worry as he reached out, taking your forearms in his hands gently. “Hey, (Y/N),” he spoke softly. “It’s alright. I’m here.”
You swallowed hard, holding his arms in a soft embrace before pulling away, peeling the covers from your sweating legs. You got up from the bed, still trying to catch your breath as your heart beat echoed in your head. As you moved into the bathroom, you saw yourself in the mirror. You looked ragged, probably due to the lack of sleep in the past few days. You also looked like you’d personally been to Hell and back, making you let out a deep sigh.
Leaning over the counter, you caught your breath, then turned on the cold water, collecting some in your hands and pushing it against your face. As you slowly slipped back into reality, you rubbed the cool water over your arms and dumped some on the back of your head and neck. You ran your fingers through your hair, then turned off the water. You moved back into the bedroom, opening a window to let the cool air hit your wet skin. Breathing in the air deeply, then exhaling into the night, you took a few moments like this, leaning on the windowsill and overlooking the abandoned street below you.
Finally, you shut the window and made your way back over to the bed where Hank was sitting, waiting for you to calm down like you did every night. You sat beside him, putting your head in your hands as your elbows rested on your thighs. He slowly rubbed your back as you leveled your breathing once again. He spoke first. “Anything you need, (Y/N); you know I’m here for you.”
“I know,” you replied back softly, pulling yourself up to look at him once again, then leaning over and pressing a soft kiss to his lips. Hank pulled you down onto the bed, and you laid beside him, pushing your face into his neck. You breathed in his musky scent, pressing soft kisses to the skin. It was an odd thing, wanting comfort in your time of need, but also wanting to give the same comfort.
Hank traced your spine with his fingertips, holding you close and kissing the top of your head as his other hand held your waist firmly. It was the kind of gentle hold that told you he would never let anyone hurt you again. Never.
You weren’t inclined to fall back asleep, but the soothing touches of Hank’s hands made it near impossible to stay awake. The hand you had on his chest felt his heartbeat, which was the final nail in the coffin, and you fell back asleep in the comfort of his arms, content with his comfort despite the constant nightmares which plagued you.

Just For A Moment - Part 1
Jay Halstead x OC/reader
This is my first time trying to write something angsty, so please be kind! I've seen quite a few fics where the partner always gets seen when they see their SO cheating, and its always teary denials and breakups, I wanted to put a spin on it and go down the line of "she knows, but she doesn't tell anyone" and the OC kind of just thinks of them as broken up and strangers without telling their SO that.
My plan with this storyline is that everyone kind of sides with Jay because no one really knows why she's being so cold with him, and it just carries on building until it reaches the breaking point. The question is, who'll break first?
Please let me know if you enjoyed this!
TW: cheating, (slightly?) angsty
Part 2
Part 3
Part 4
Part 5
Part 6
Masterlist
Voight had extended an offer for Aurora Gallo to join his Intelligence department a few days after Erin had left, Erin's departure left a gaping hole in the team and Voight was hopeful that Aurora would be the one to mend it.
Aurora was the daughter of an old friend of Hank's. She'd spent a few short years working her way through different organisations such as the CIA and FBI as an undercover operative.
But she needed a break. She was slowly losing herself in the multiple lives she had lived, and she needed a change.
Aurora hadn't expected the offer from Voight, but she was grateful all the same.
She moved to Chicago shortly after his offer, joining the Intelligence office and being partnered with him.
Jay Halstead.
Jay was an enigma - one she couldn't get enough of.
She had heard the rumours, of course. Of how Jay had been in love with Erin before she left.
And she had been the one to replace Erin, in both the team, and now in Jay's life.
It was hard not to draw comparisons. The whispers of the department always found their way to her, and, sometimes, when she looked into Jay's eyes, she always thought she could see him longing for more.
But she told herself not to worry, that Jay cared for her, that Jay chose her.
Not Erin, and definitely not anyone else.
That's what she continued to tell herself. Even after Hailey joined the team, even after Hailey found ways to get close to Jay when she wasn't his partner.
Soon, the small habits that Jay carried out for Aurora, he would carry out for Hailey too.
Checking up on her after a tough case, bringing her coffee in the mornings, dropping her off home after a late day at work, and picking her up bright and early in the morning. All of it, once done just for Aurora, were now moments and memories she shared with Hailey.
And just like that, those actions lost their meaning. But Aurora learnt to hide her hurt, instead choosing to ignore her heart and listen to Jay.
They were just friends.
That was what Jay had said the first time she expressed her concerns over their relationship, and she believed it. That everything Jay did for Hailey was out of the goodness of his heart because he was just so good.
So, on the night of their six month anniversary, when Aurora had dolled herself up and grabbed the cake, she had spent the whole day baking, on her way out of her apartment, she had left with a heart full of love and excitement.
The team had the day off today, and she had spent most of her morning at Jay's house before drumming up an excuse to go back to her apartment so she could finish her preparations.
Aurora held no sadness in her heart at the idea Jay might have forgotten their six month anniversary, after all such a thing wasn't significant to everyone.
But it was special to her, and she wanted to celebrate it with Jay - surprise him even.
Before leaving his place, she had asked Jay if he had plans, and he denied saying his only plan was to drink beer and watch the game. The revelation had calmed her nerves as she promised to text him later if she was free, knowing that she wouldn't because she wanted to surprise him instead.
And that was why she now stood in front of Jay's apartment, a small box with the cake she had baked and decorated that afternoon laid by her feet as she rummaged for the spare key Jay had given her for emergencies.
This seemed like the biggest emergency of all. If she stayed outside any longer, the frosting on her cake would melt off. And no one likes melted frosting.
As she quietly opened the door, she prayed silently that Jay had fallen asleep on the couch as she bent over to pick up her cake before walking through the door. As she closed the door behind her, her heart had calmed at the silence that rang through the apartment, hopeful that Jay truly had fallen asleep so she could set up the kitchen table before waking him.
She had taken two steps towards the kitchen before her eyes landed on the couch, and through the dim lights of a table lamp, she could make out that it was empty. She frowned slightly, hoping Jay wasn't asleep in bed - he rarely slept well, and the idea of waking him from a deep sleep rather than a nap would have just made her feel guilty.
If he had, she would just have to surprise him in the morning, and the thought brought a timid smile onto her face.
She continued her walk towards the kitchen, her steps quiet but hurried as the skirt of her deep blue dress billows around her thighs. She sets the cake on the kitchen counter, hands ready to lift up the lid to see the damage her journey here had done to the cake before she heard it.
Aurora felt her heart sink, pressure building in her sternum as the sound she heard repeated over and over again, not only in her head but in the apartment.
It sounded like... a woman?
She felt her breath stutter, the quiet moans she heard building in volume as she slipped her heels off and treaded cautiously towards the room she knew to be Jay's. After all, she and Jay had been in there many times.
As she got closer towards the room, her hands trembled as she stumbled, her feet catching on clothes thrown astray. The sight caused her to hesitate, frozen in a stupor as she looked at the articles of clothing which littered the floor.
Shoes, trousers, shirts. Women's clothes.
Aurora screwed up her eyes harshly, her breaths coming out in ragged pants as she tried to control herself, trying to convince herself that she was wrong. That Jay couldn't do anything wrong. He cares about her. He loves her. He said so himself. Her Jay wouldn't do something like this.
She opened her eyes, determination painted her gaze as she continued her path to Jay's room. His door was cracked open, and she held her breath as she peaked through.
Aurora's heart fell to the ground - shattered and broken. She had hoped, and she had prayed that the grunts and pleas - sounds she was so familiar with - were just a trick her paranoia was playing on her.
But looking into Jay's room, there was no denying it.
There sat her boyfriend, on the bed they had made love in, fucking another woman. Jay was leaning against the headboard, his head thrown back in pleasure as his hand gripped the waist of the blonde woman perched on his lap, his knuckles blanched as he ground her hips against his, the motion causing a moan of pleasure to wrench itself from her throat, his name on her lips as she spoke - "fuck, Jay, I'm so close."
The blood had drained from Aurora's face, she knows that voice.
"I know, baby. I'm close, too. God, Hail you feel so good."
Baby?
Tears began to well in Aurora's eyes. Jay calls her baby, and now he's called her too?
This wasn't some one night stand or some mistake. No, Jay cares about Hailey, so much so that he is willing to betray Aurora to have her.
Aurora's throat ached as she held back her sobs, her heart burning in agony as she stepped back quietly from the door. She made her way back to her things and hastily grabbed her box of cake and shoes as she scrambled away from Jay's apartment, running away from the her own nightmare.
She made it to her car, hands shaking as she shut herself in and sobs poured out from her.
Aurora had no one to go to. She didn't know the team as well as Jay, and she hadn't been around Chicago enough to make close friends. Her previous career and her lifestyle made it hard to make friends, much less keep them.
And now, when she needed someone the most, she had no one.
And she had lost the one person she thought she could always go to.
Aurora's eyes were filled with tears, and her heart filled with pain as she drove home. Her hands were shaky on the steering wheel, and she relied on muscle memory to bring her back to the place she felt the most safe in.
The place she had allowed Jay in, the place she was the most vulnerable in. And he ruined it. He ruined her.
Without warning, anger began to bubble in her chest. Anger towards herself for being so naive to believe Jay when he said they were just friends, anger towards Jay for lying to her, for betraying her, anger towards Hailey for being a friend to her only to betray her too.
The anger that built up in her on the drive home festered throughout the night. As Aurora lay in bed, struggling to quieten her mind enough to get some sleep, her eyes burning from all the tears she shed and her throat raw from her screams and cries, she felt her anger morph into dread.
Tomorrow, she would see the man that betrayed her, and the woman she called a friend.
On her nightstand, her phone continued to light up the ceiling as notifications popped up. But Halstead's texts went unanswered.
***
The next morning, Aurora had awoken from a restless sleep, and she instinctively reached for her phone, a ghost of a smile on her face as she looked for the sweet 'good morning' messages her Jay would send her every morning.
Hey baby, you okay? You didn't come back over yesterday.
Aurora felt her smile falter - the most recent text Halstead sent caused the memories of last night to flash past her eyes. The remembrance of his lies and his betrayal once more brings tears to her eyes as they fall, leaving hot trails in their tracks.
Her eyes then fall to a text from Voight - Case. Meet at 9.
It was currently 7:30am, which gave her plenty of time to pull herself together and push away the dread of having to see the two people she trusted most after their betrayal.
She pushed herself out of bed, shuffling towards the bathroom - dear God, she looked a mess. The makeup from last night still painted her face, but her mascara and eyeliner were now smudged and drawn down her cheeks in smeared streaks, and through the smudged-off makeup, the faint lines of the scars she hid could be seen.
And her eyes, they looked sad.
And that realisation made fury bite at her, she looked so pathetic.
God, it was her fault. To let him in so easily, after all she had been through and all she had learnt about men. She had still gone and trusted one with her heart.
Aurora had come across all kinds of men and stood against them undefeated - those who beat their wives and children, those who hurt and raped the innocent, those who killed without fear of consequences and those who tortured with hearts full of glee.
And yet, it was Jay Halstead who broke her. All because she let him in, let him get too close.
Determination set in her gaze once more. She wouldn't let Halstead be the end of her. No, she was stronger than that, better than that.
With that thought in mind, Aurora got ready to face the man she once called her boyfriend and the love of her life.
***
When Aurora stepped into the district, it was obvious to Sargent Platt that something was different.
She looked the same - her hair pinned up in the same sleek ponytail, dressed in the same long sleeve jumper and cargos. But her face was void of emotions, and her eyes looked like they were drowning in them.
Sargent Platt liked Aurora. She was a good kid, and despite all the years she spent around violence and horror in her years undercover, she had managed to keep a pure heart and a joyful soul.
It seemed now that both of those things had been drained out of her.
"Hey, kid. Come here a sec."
"Sorry, Sargent, got a case," Aurora nodded stiffly in Trudy's direction before walking up the steps to the intelligence office.
Sargent?
Aurora has called her boss, even Platt. When she tried to push her friendship with her, Aurora would even call her Trudy, sometimes, in a teasing manner. But she had never been so formal, so devoid of emotion.
Trudy felt worried for the girl, her mind running countless scenarios as she wondered what had made her lose her light in such a short amount of time.
***
When Aurora had made her way up the stairs, the office was already buzzing, her team talking and walking around in circles as they discussed the case on hand - a twelve year old boy had been kidnapped, this was the third case over the last ten days and the other victims had been found dead. Homicide had turned up empty in their investigation, and given how close the last case was to their district, Voight offered to take it off their hands, to which they gladly agreed.
She looked over her colleagues, scanning the room for the one person she was unsure of if she would want to see. But it seems his eyes found her first.
"Babe, there you are," Jay's voice sounded exasperated as he leapt up from his seat at his desk, and just like always, Hailey was hovering over his shoulder.
Usually, the action would cause her to feel slightly annoyed, the feeling being quelled when Jay would hold her hand or kiss her cheek or just say her name.
Now, the sight brought a burst of emotions, all of which she fought down and locked away to face at another time when she was alone and it was safe to be vulnerable.
Halstead made his way to her, his hands cupping her cheeks as he looked at her in concern, "baby, you didn't answer my texts, I was so worried."
Aurora shrugged lightly, her face still blank as she found she had no energy to even fake a smile to him, "I was tired."
No apology, no placation. Because he didn't deserve that.
It seemed that Jay had noticed her lack of reason and apology, too, the concern in his eyes growing as Aurora pushed his hands down gently - "we have a case to work."
She pushed past him and walked to her desk, ignoring the 'hey, Aurora' Hailey had thrown her way, grateful when Voight had chosen that exact moment to step out of his office and brief them.
Unbeknownst to her, Jay continued to eye her in worry. He had already been struggling to fight off the guilt he felt when he stepped out on Aurora and slept with Hailey, but to see her so drawn away and isolated only made that grow. Paranoia ate at his heart, but he knew there could be no way she caught them.
Voight had given them the basics of Aurora's past career as an undercover agent, and Jay knew that if she had caught him and Hailey, they would be working on their murder case right now instead.
What do we think? Do we want a part 2?👀

Title: Shootout
Age: 8
TW: gunshot, broken glass, blood, hospital
Jay's pov:
Time 6:30 pm
I was sitting on the couch watching a Bears game on the TV while Caity is in the kitchen coloring at the kitchen table and eating some fruit. I would glance over at her every so often out of habit. Thankfully the kitchen and living room are connected. During the commercial break, I got up to get a glass of water. I am drinking water cause I am currently on call. I grab a glass out of the cabinet and fill it up with water out of the fridge and walked past the kitchen table and kissed Caity on the top of the head and asked "You okay," to which she replied "Yeah." As I start to walk back to the living room I call out and say "If you need me come and get me alright." "Okay Daddy," She mumbled back. Just as I was about to sit back down I feel my phone vibrate in my pocket. I sit down and see it's Voight. I answer and say "Hey Sarge, what do we got," there is a slight pause before he answers and says, "There is an armed robbery at the bank on Michigan Avenue the suspects are heavily armed and refuse to surrender. They need more officers on the scene," "Alright I'm on my way." I stand up and walk into my room I change into my uniform, open up my drawer and grab my badge then go to my closet and put in the combination to my gun safe that is at my eye level so Caity can't reach it. I walk back out to the living room and put on my shoe. Caitlin look at me confused and walks over in a soft tone, I say, I've got a case so get your shoes on alright," "Ok," she sat down and I help her put her shoes on then we head out the door and over to the elevator.
Caitlin's pov
Time 6:45
We walk towards the elevator and I push the down button we wait for the elevator to open when it does we wait for the people inside to get off and then walk in. It is a little crowded so Dad grabs my shoulder and pulls me closer to him so I don't get in someone's way. A lady asks what floor we are going to so Dad tells her we are going to the lobby. She pushes the button and as soon as we start moving I grab onto Dad's hands which are still securely on my shoulders cause I hate elevators. We live on the twelfth floor and we stopped four times on the way down so it took a little longer than normal. As we are walking through the lobby I ask Dad if I can say hi to Marcus before we leave. "Yes but hurry we got to go I'm going to get the car and stay with Marcus," he said. "Ok," I said as I ran over and hugged him and said, "Hi Marcus," "Hi Caity where are yall of to in such a hurry," He said. I quickly replied, "Dad's got to go to work." "Oh, I see. I will see you later than bye," he said as he saw Dad's truck pull around. "Bye," I replied as I ran off to the truck. I hopped into my booster seat and buckled up and Dad asked if I was ready I said, "Yep." He drove to the scene and I could see all my aunts in uncles from Intelligence. As soon as Dad parked I unbuckled and was about to hop out when Dad stopped me by saying, "No, you're staying in the car alright." Alright," I say a little sad I can't say hi to my dad's friends. I stand in the middle behind the console and Dad hands me my iPad and headphones when did he grab them I didn't see him grab them when we were leaving and it doesn't stay in the car. I was a little confused but accepted it gratefully and sit it in my seat. Dad leans over and kisses my cheek and says, "Love you." I give him a big hug and say, "Love you to be safe please." I pull out of the hug and he kisses my forehead and says, "Always am. Put your headphones on please." "Ok, Dad go be my superhero." He makes sure he has everything then walks over to Papa Hank and they start talking. I put on my headphones and start playing Kirby.

Time 7:25 pm
I parked a block away so Caitlin should be fine. I walk over to Voight and say, hey Sarge any update." "They are 8 armed robbers inside and they are refusing to come out. There are still 7 civilians inside. I need you to get the other sniper and go on the other side and be ready for anything. He says as we walk to the scene. I walk over and grab the sniper and walk toward my spot and wait. As I wait, I can feel the tension in the air rising. This is a dangerous situation and the robbers are heavily armed. I check my equipment and make sure everything is in order. I take a deep breath and focus on the task at hand. I need to be prepared for anything and everything. As I wait, I think about Caity in the car. I always worry about her when I'm on a case. But I know she's safe in the car with her IPad. Finally, after what seems like hours, we get the signal to move in. I aim and wait for my command. As intelligence moves in I hear movement and shouting. Two of the robbers make a run for it and I take one down with the sniper as they aim at Kevin. As I was about to shoot the other one as he aims at Vanessa I see a third robber headed in the direction of my truck. I quickly shoot down the other robber and run after the one that was getting away. My heart sank to my stomach as I heard gunshots ricocheting off the truck I froze. I pick up my pace and run as fast as I can toward my truck. I get there and see the guy running away but I don't care I let him get away. I need to get to my little girl. There is glass shattered everywhere and I see the blood I pray to God it's not Caity's. As I'm about to open the door I see Voight, Antonio, Kevin, and Kim running over. I see two patrol officers running after the suspect that is getting away.

I was sitting in the car waiting on Dad. He had been gone for a little while and I was starting to worry. 'I haven't heard anything bad yet so maybe it's ok...' I thought but soon after I thought that I hear a gunshot and jumped. It's muffled by the music playing from my headphones but I still hear it and to be honest, it scared me. Just as I thought something bad had happened I saw a figure walking towards the car I figured it was my dad or someone from intelligence coming to tell me it was okay so I leaned forward ready to guess who it is but as soon as I lean forward I see a man I don't know. He's wearing a black ski mask and all-black clothes and I see a gun in his hand. I didn't think he saw it so I laid down on the floor but just my luck he did and he start shooting at the truck I covered my head as Dad and Uncle Will showed me. I could feel glass cutting my arms and my legs. I was so scared I was crying and covering my ears. I heard one last gunshot before I felt warm liquid seeping down my side 'Why is there so much blood from just glass...' I thought. I suddenly felt like the car was spinning. 'I'm scared, I don't know what's going on, I want my daddy...' the next thing that happens is a blur I hear a door open before I feel arms around me and I'm picked up at sat on the grass. I cry out in pain as I feel a slight pressure on my side and I hear my dad whisper, "It's ok Caity Daddy's here your ok. Stay awake for me ok." "Daddy," I say before letting out a cry of pain as I feel a stabbing pain shoot up my side. The last thing I heard before darkness consumed me was my dad saying "I love you Caity."
Kevin's pov
20 minutes earlier
Me, Sarge, Kim, and Vanessa had all gone inside to catch the robbers while Hailey and Adam stayed with Antonio and Jay to watch their backs. Me and Vanessa went through the front while Kim and Voight were coming around the back. We took down five of the suspects but three slipped out so I started chasing them with Vanessa not far behind me. Just as I caught up to them they turned and started shooting at us I didn't have time to think as the first one fell to the ground and then the second one fell shortly after. I looked around for the third offender but didn't see him anywhere. It took me a moment to register the face of the person who just ran past me but soon realized it was Jay my first thought was he must be chasing the last guy but oh was I mistaken? I'm a little over a quarter of the way behind Jay when I hear gunshots I freeze so does Jay but just as fast as we freeze we pick up the pace again running faster than before. When I finally catch up to Jay I see why he was running so fast he wasn't trying to catch the guy he was worried about Caitlin. I didn't know she was here. I pick up my radio as Jay is pulling Caitlin out of the truck and say, "This is 5021 David I need an Ambo at my current location. There is an 8-year-old girl her name is Caitlin Halstead she has a gunshot wound on her side." Shortly after. I hear "Copy that rolling and ambo your way." The unit must have heard cause a few seconds later I see Voight, Kim, and Antonio a couple of seconds later I see Vanessa, Adam, and Hailey running over with the paramedics Gabby and Sylvie. They get her on the stretcher and get her in the ambulance.
Jay's pov
Time 8:10
Gabby wheels Caitlin into the back of the ambulance and I hop in after as soon as I am seated I grab Caity's hand and squeeze it gently. I am freaking out on the inside but I show no emotion I have to stay strong for her. As I am sitting in the ambulance staring at the blood on my hands. I think back to how I could have prevented this. There are dozens of ways I could have taken her to Mouse's he's home or let her stay with Hope and her husband our neighbors or the district and let her stay with the officers there or left an officer I trusted by the car or even taken her to Trudy she doesn't live far from me. My thoughts are spiraling as I can't help but feel a little selfish that I wish this was someone else's kid in this situation, not mine. When we finally arrived I was almost in a full state of panic. We got out of the back of the ambulance and they started to wheel Caity away with me not far behind. As the doors open I can barely make out what Gabby is saying, "Caitlin Halstead, 8-year-old female, GSW to the stomach and major lacerations on her arms and legs. Was unconscious before we got there."
Will's pov
Time 8:35
I was looking over some charts Maggie just gave me I hear Maggie say, "Halstead trauma 3, Gabby what have we got." "Caitlin Halstead, 8-year-old female, GSW to the stomach and major lacerations on her arms and legs. Was unconscious before we got there." I was shocked by what Gabby just said my niece was shot. When, where, how, all these questions were spinning around in my head I didn't even realize that Maggie had handed her off to Marcel or that Jay was yelling at Maggie for not letting him in until Jay punched Earl. I snapped out of my thoughts and wrapped my arms around Jay's back pinning his arms in place and repeatedly told him to calm down as he struggled against me. When he finally calmed down I let him go and asked Earl if he was OK. He said, "I'm a security guard Will it's not like I've never been punched." I laughed a little and he looked at Jay and said, "Detective Halstead don't go punching any more people alright." Jay just nodded slightly and went back to watching Dr. Marcel work on helping Caity. I slowly lead Jay out to the waiting room where I saw Voight standing in the corner. Vanessa, Hailey, Kim, Kevin, and Trudy along with Mouch sat in chairs talking. Mouse and Adam argue about something while Antonio tries to calm them down standing by the vending machine. As soon they hear the doors open they all look over. Jay walks to the far corner away from everyone. They all walk over to me seeing Jay doesn't want to talk and ask if she's okay I tell them I don't know and ask, "What happened." Kevin explained what happened and I went back to work.
Jay's pov
Time 10:00 P.M.
I had been sitting here for two hours most of the intelligence has left all that's left is me, Hailey, Kevin, Mouse, Antonio, and Voight. Antonio was saying his goodbyes cause he need to get home to his kids when Will walked in with Dr. Marcel. We all stood up and walked over to them. I quickly asked, "Is she ok." Dr. Marcel replied, "She had a few major lacerations that needed stitches and we had to do emergency surgery to remove the bullet. She will need lots of rest. I will take you to see her now. We walk to her room and I see her hooked up to all these machines. She looks so peaceful right now. I kiss her head and I see her eyes start to flutter open. She looks up at me with tired eyes smile and whispers, "Daddy," "Hi baby how do you feel," "My tummy hurts. Can you lay with me," she says with a small pout and then a small smile. "Alright scoot over." "Yay," I help her scoot over so she doesn't lay on anything that's connected to her and eventually she falls asleep.
A/n: Man I did not expect it to be that long but man 2541 words. I would like to know what you think of this one m because it is my favorite so far. Should I make a short part two about the recovery?

TW: homophobia (not from main characters)
People were idiots. Jay knew that. He had known for a very long time already but it still amazed him sometimes how dumb they could be. Justin Voight was definitely one of these people. Jay had tried to be nice despite the other guy’s attitude. He really did. But when Voight’s kid walked back into their gym and gave Conrad and him a look before opening his mouth, Jay knew he wasn’t going to be able to let it slide this time. Because it was one thing to ignore the guy’s jealousy regarding his close relationship with Erin and it was another one to accept this particular kind of shit.
“You’ a fag?” Justin said.
And the whole gym seemed to fall silent at his words giving him the first clue he had made a mistake. Jay, who was standing with an arm around Conrad's shoulders and one of his boyfriends wrapped loosely around his back, far from any sort of heavy PDA, watched him as Voight’s kid looked around from the corner of his eyes. Ruzek, Al, and Antonio had fallen silent a few feet away and so had the other guys passing by.
“I’m sorry,” Jay said. “What did you just call me?”
His question was only met by silence until...
“He asked you a question, Justin,” a familiar voice said.
Voight himself was standing behind Erin and his son who turned around to look at his father, an obviously annoyed look on his face.
“In the ring. Both of you. Now,” Voight said after a beat.
“Voight,” Erin tried.
She - and everyone else - knew damn well Justin couldn’t take Jay.
“I said now,” Voight repeated.
And that was how Jay ended up standing in the ring, facing Voight’s son. They circled one another for a moment. Neither of them made the first move. Mostly because Jay didn’t want to lose his job over his boss’ douchebag of a son.
“Stop looking at me, Halstead, and fight already,” Voight added after a beat. “Unless you want me to kick you out.”
He didn’t need to be told twice. When Jay moved, Justin didn’t even see him coming and fell on his ass before he could try and do anything.
“Up, now,” Voight ordered his son.
And Justin did, angrily. However, it took all but two seconds for Jay to get him right back where he came from and leave him there. This time Voight didn’t say anything, he merely shook his head, and walked away. Jay took that as his cue to get off the ring and get back to his boyfriend. He didn’t bother looking back at the idiot.

Note
Do you think Jay would ever hit Voight?
Not gonna lie, I’m a little on the fence about this one anon. At first, I think yes, because we have seen the two of them butt heads and if something provoked him (perhaps protecting Hailey), he might hit him.
But a part of me also thinks no. He wouldn’t want to stoop down to Voight’s level and give him that satisfaction. Jay also knows about Hailey’s past with physical violence. I would argue that Jay probably wants to show Hailey that he’s different than that and wants to be mindful about how her seeing someone she loves use violence would affect her.
I think Voight needs to be put in his place and I’m sure Jay is going to be spitting mad, but I’m just not sure he is going to hit him. He certainly will have some choice words though.
