i know it's a lil cringe to like. celebrate the birthday of a series on ao3 but r&r is literally my child. my baby. i birthed this series. and you all signed up for this when u started reading my fics thank u

soooooooo thank u guys for all the support i've received over r&r i know it's hard to stay a consistent reader when my posting schedule is entirely non existent but i am so grateful for everyone who's stuck around this long and been with me for this journey (calling it a journey because a year ago i did not have any sort of overarching plot in mind and now we're 17? 18? fics deep and so many things have happened and i'm usually just as surprised as my readers) it's rlly u guys that have kept me going this long

ANYWAY. i rewrote this like 500 times cause i hate being like. overly sappy on this account because it's way funnier to act like a celebrity with a huge ego, but real talk i am so proud of everything i've done w this series & what it's become in the past year

i've been posting my writing online since i was like 10, so we're going on almost 9 years now and i don't think i've ever ever ever received as much support for something as i have for r&r and something about that is soooo special to me??? idk it's just so nice to see a completely self indulgent series become so loved by others, especially since the only other fics i had up before gmm&m were a little more on the "i'm gonna write what seems popular right now" side???

If we're going with specific versions of the characters, I think these are some of my favorites:

• Wild in incandescently happy: I don't write Wild a lot, but I love how he's intelligent in this one, in addition to his gremlin tendencies.

• Hyrule in Loftwings Stand for Freedom: this is a heavier story, one that I haven't written more of yet didn't expand upon, but, well. I slipped in a lot of my personal philosophy about happiness and anger, in that it's a choice.

"Maybe some people who participate in the whole thing don't deserve forgiveness, but I'm happier when I forgive. I won't forget, and I want justice to take care of them, but I won't let them take up all my emotional energy by always being angry." ... "Why choose anger over happiness?"

• Wind in Marvelous Misadventures: he's optimistic, nosy, and way too observant for his own good.

• Wind in 1931 (the vampire AU): there's just something about a stupid immortal 14-year-old who can be really dang scary when he wants to be :)

• Red, Vio, Green, and Blue in Stern destiny has seal'd my doom (another vampire AU): they used to be monster-hunting knights, with all the skills that implied, until they became vampires. They moved to an abandoned castle and started bringing order to a town, all while struggling with morality questions and foreign predator instincts. It's just so yummy. (anonymity on AO3 wrote a related work about Red that I really really love. It's called Stay your hand, love, and it's a bit heavy so watch tags :)

• FS Zelda in 'tis unusual care (sequel to above): you can tell she cares so much in this one. I tend to write her as a rather feisty individual, but she understands the world around her deeply and backs up her words with actions.

• Shadow in Consciousness (in the BotW AU): he's a creation of the Yiga/Vaati in this one, so he's new to... well, personhood. He's figuring it out, and he's already a dramatic little rebel.

• Blue in Through the Wires: this is a dumb lil sci-fi AU. I don't think I write from Blue's perspective a lot, and this version of him is extra-protective and determined.

• Four in what is a stump supposed to do?: my blog title isn't Blatant Four Swords Favoritism for nothing, but Four is a fascinating character beyond being the Four Swords Link. This fic makes him a Minish by birth, which I really need to do something else with, because it's great.

• Four in Shatterproof (disability AU): he has paraparesis, which isn't what I have, but my experiences with mobility etc were closest to what Four experiences, out of all the disability AU. I often find myself going to this version of him when I'm having Feelings.

Nell and Belly (btw their full names are Nathanel and Anabelle) are born twins, nell just a few minutes before his sister. their mother died at birth which sent their father (an already not . good guy) into deep constant rage and pain . once they grow up a bit . i mean like. 7 or so. theres sexual abuse happening . and beatings. selling out his kids for a night for money. nothing fun. nell and belly get through it together until at like 16 nell (who's like, underfed, short, no muscles) snaps and stabs their dad over and over again .

nell only remembers this, killing his dad, with absolutely no context behind (protecting himself, protecting his sister, freeing them) so he thinks he used to be a Bad person. after that they get placed in the system, ig theres a trial but its ruled as legitime defense, and once they're 18 belly just. vanishes. they both deal very differently with what their whole life was, nell cant go on, can barely support himself, thinks he should have died right then, and belly flees from nell to find . somewhere where she can forget. she regrets it but nell dies before she can reconnect (not sure how, his death isn't rly whats important here,,, im thinking . so numb he can't rly recognize whats around him . walk in front of a car. yeah). belly struggles to have a happy life after that and ... im not sure how she dies yet. im thinking drowning bc its a thing that almost happens in the farm au....

as an angel, she doesnt remember much, because there wasn't much happiness in her life. also these two as twins have a bond that still connect them in angel/demon realm ! so they know the other exist and they remember once they meet !!

this happens in a fictif medieval era lmao she's the princess of a kingdom, daughter of a kind king and queen, destined to rule, fighting among the army already, everyone loves her, except her small kingdom gets torn apart by another kingdom, not that much bigger, but with much greater military strength. the country gets torn apart before the army, the king and queen can do anything. the enemies arrive to the capital and lena doesn't even ask and joins the vanguard. she uses a sword at this point, get through enemies after enemies, and it looks like there's hope, until one of the enemy's captain reach her. it's a bit of a eowyn versus the nazgul vibe in lotr except lena doesn't win. she's slain, and slowly dies on hte battlefield with her beloved country burning, and the people she swore to protect screaming and dying.

she's very loved. i care her so much. she's my default when idk what to draw :3 she remembers being a loved princess, and slowly remember the last fight. it haunts her, the weight of losing this fight, that she couldn't do more, even if it's from a time long gone.

she loses her parents very young and thus, is cared for by the local church. there's a priest here who teaches her to use her looks and innocence as a way to get things, information, food, anything. once she's 13/14, he starts showing her the more physical way to do so.

she starts using sex as a way to learn things. she's the person who knows the most about anyone in the village. she's an important figure, one who's gifted things to keep silent, who gives her body in exchange for things to hang up against someone. she hates the priest who made her who she is . she couldn't have been something else, happier, lighter, but she's this, and she's too deep in to just stop.

she's too powerful, she knows too much, and when there's word in the village of a witch inhabiting it, they all turn to her. they have a way to get rid of her and the power she holds over them. she screams what she knows when she's brought to the center of the village, screams her hate of the priest who made her who she is, destroys everyone's nice little life because it cost hers. she dies burning, and everyone chooses to act like they never heard her in her final day.

she's the wise calm one who's actually full of anger and wrath. i love her a lot. there's this french song i love ("a witch like any other") which talks abt . women. women and men treating women like they're granted. and like. its a titania song. if u wanna give it a listen this version is amazing altho it's more powerful if u know french....

his mother and him are not allowed in the village. his mother is sick. he doesn't know it, he just follows his mother. she's kind and beautiful, gives him food and tells him stories. he's 4. they can't get in the village and he doesn't know why, so they find dry places in the woods to live. it's fun, it's everything he's ever known. one day his mother doesn't wake up, so he goes to try and find food by himself, to surprise her. when he's back, she's still not awake. she's stiff and cold, so he gives her his blanket and waits. days pass. he's hungry, he's thirsty, he's 5, he doesn't know anything, doesn't know how to go on, the usually places he finds bits of food are empty. it's colder and his mother hasn't moved since that day.

it's snowing. it's pretty. he wishes his mom could wake up and see it but he's starting to think that maybe she won't.

childhood: dasom was born in manhattan, new york to a record producer father and vocal coach / former broadway star mother, so music has always been apart of her life. she's the eldest of three children, two girls including herself and a younger brother. she spent her childhood in elite private schools and being vocally trained by her own mother. when she reached the age of twelve, she was scouted by a korean music label that wanted her to be a trainee for them. with her parents' support, she moved to south korea at the age of thirteen and started training. while living in seoul, she stayed with her mother's parents until moving into the idol dorms.

adolescence: dasom debuted at the young, ripe age of fifteen; though she wasn't the youngest in her group. despite her young age, she was one of two main vocalists, apart of the group's dance line, and the center/face of the group. her group quickly gained success and notoriety, not just in south korea, but in asia as a whole ( think girls' generation type vibes ), and with their rising popularity, dasom's personal popularity with the general public grew even more. by the time she was seventeen, her face was plastered on billboards in both south korea and japan ( the country with their second largest fanbase ). but with her popularity, came a lot of hate and negativity as well. there's never any good without bad, and she was experiencing that firsthand.

early twenties: her group was at the height of their career, and then it all went to shit when dasom was twenty years old. she went through a pretty rough break up with her first significant other, and in their anger, they leaked nude photos of her to netizens and the scandal took south korea by a storm. she went from being a national sweetheart to public enemy number one. and the worst part about it was that she was being blamed for it, and her ex didn't get nearly as much hate as she did. although they weren't in the public eye as much as her, they were still known because they were apart of an extremely wealthy family. she just assumed that their wealth and family's influence helped them get off scot-free. meanwhile, her career as a k-pop idol was practically ruined. her company dropped her before the group could suffer anymore than it already had, leaving her jobless.

but she was still determined to continue making music, despite being virtually blacklisted in the k-pop industry. she hopped on a plane back to the states and used connections through her parents in order to secure herself a record deal. on her twenty first birthday the following year in 2015, she released her first solo album. that was also the year that she began her acting career. although she doesn't dabble in it too much, it is something that she enjoys doing every so often.

from that point onwards, it seemed as though everything that dasom, now known as summer, touched turned to gold. she was becoming a household name due to her music, and she loved that people seemed to enjoy her so much. however, what she didn't love, was the negativity that came along with it. being the positive, upbeat and slightly naive, woman that she is, it was easy for her to fall into the trap of consuming online comments and allow it to affect her mental health and stability. and while she tries to keep her positive mindset, it does get overwhelming for her at times. more often than not, actually.

Volcano. Automatically Volcano. Might even be my number one?? Literally any time I listen to Volcano now I think of this fic. Like it was just PERFECTION on top of PERFECTION almost made me cry I loved it so much. You packed so many details into it too and I really love coming back to it every once in a while to see what else I catch that I missed before. Also Hannie??? I love my Hannie ok. Volcano was just a masterpiece and I loved her sm truly deserves the best.

Invisible Thread up next! Part one is one of the first fics I read by you I think? Took me a while to come on anon ik ik 🫡 but both parts were just *chef’s kiss* and I loved how they intertwined with each other and complimented each other perfectly. They built off one another and you really saw the character development and growth reading from each part like 🥹 loved her sm. Part two was also a nice comfort for me cuz I wasn’t feeling well when it came out but reading it felt like a warm hug and I really appreciated that comfort at the time.

You’re in the Wind, I’m in the Water is gonna be my third choice hehe. I absolutely love how Hyunjin’s photos birthed this cuz it was so BEAUTIFUL??? And part two absolutely had me hooked. I really loved the sequences and I’m an absolute romance fiend so I was really loving the second part hehe.

Ok I’m not done cuz I can’t forget your drabbles too??? I love them equally hehe. First off the Seungmin drabble where you realize you don’t have to act a certain way around him. Mmm yup that one hit I loved it and wanna give it a lil smoochie. I feel like Seungmin was such a perfect choice for that.

Keeping the Seungmin train going, the other drabble you made where he comforted the reader who tends to bottle up their emotions. Again, hit very hard but was such a great comfort.

Okee last drabble would beeeeee the Chan one of him being proud of you at the end of a hard day. I love comfort fics and you really write them well hehe.

I’ll end this off by also saying I really love all your Hyunjin brain rots too. Like your essay I asked you to write about why you love him? Had me in tears. I just really loved reading it and I feel your understanding of the members REALLY blossoms all of your writings more. Cuz like, you understand them deeper than some may. That’s how I feel at least. I think that really helps to make the fics you write, even just the mini drabbles, feel so much more alive.

could you talk about kik and her desires? ( ie: does she WANT to be dead? does she want to live the life that was stolen from her?)

oh this is SUCH a good question, thank u from the bottom of my heart for asking bc this should be quite an interesting lil thought experiment ... let us dive in :3

first and foremost, to understand kikyo and the general concept of desires (or, more base-level, just "wanting" as a whole), it's helpful to look at her childhood and the way she brought herself up. her parents died shortly after kaede's birth, and so she was alone at the age of eight. it's not said exactly when but it wouldn't have been very long after that, taking on the role of kaede's mother, essentially, that she would have started training as a priestess. from the jump she was adept at keeping her own childish emotions at bay out of necessity, as she was responsible for her younger sister, as well as the duties requires by a priestess. the pair, probably around the time kikyo was 15 or so, and so kaede was around 7, traveled and slayed demons whilst training. everything about their existence was survival-based, and in the direct service of others.

when kikyo is given responsibility of the jewel, she is even further obligated to set aside any rambunctious emotions, wants, desires, fears, etc. that might make her come across vulnerable to yokai and evil men seeking the jewel. she had to turn herself to stone, and shed the happiness, joys, silliness and breakdowns that humans all faced – she was not able to want, because wanting would prove to be her downfall.

there's also a sidenote on this, something i haven't gotten into much at all but it is actually a major aspect of kikyo's character, that she was cursed by tsubaki (a fellow, rival priestess who was jealous that kikyo was given the jewel to protect), to die a violent death should she ever fall in love. kikyo wasn't worried about that, generally, because she didn't consider that she would ever fall in love. of course, it happens, the curse plays itself out, etc. etc. but all to say even if she didn't actively fear this curse, it still existed and she was aware of it, and it barred her from the part of herself that might one day have those desires.

onto the more specific part of this question re: does she want to be dead? the short answer would be no; but like all things it is of course a little more complicated than that. she would rather be alive, all told, but in death she found a sort of freedom she lacked in life. in fact, on this very subject, in a strange and unexpected way, she is able to want and desire and show that vulnerability more freely and completely than ever before. due to the soul she possesses being darkened by wrath, it is typically a desire that has to do with anger and hatred, but even then, this is a freedom all the same. and one she never had experienced beforehand.

the second question, does she want to live the life that was stolen from her – god, yes. and i think this is largely why she loathes inu so much, and why she is so cruel towards kagome. it is hurt, anger, resentment – she wants so badly to be able to live that life; firstly on the level that, in a literal sense, she was killed at so young an age and in her resurrection she knows that her time is limited and fleeting. secondly, because she never even had a chance to begin with – with her life as it was, she was always doomed to unhappiness, loneliness. she nearly had an out to that, with inu and the jewel, and that was taken from her – she sees inu alive, and she is jealous of that chance. she sees kagome being loved, not just by inu but by so many, and she sees this girl's happiness, kindness, and joy – things which she never had, and could never really express (save for kindness, which i would argue was always something she held onto as well in her lifetime, and she has a similar capacity for it as kag but most assuredly doesn't act on it often, especially now, and when she does it manifests differently).

kikyo had to hold back from wanting, from longing, from desire in its entirety. she is given that freedom, finally, in death, but this comes at a cost – that it is finite, and she does not have her entire life ahead of her. no matter her course, her path; she is fated to tragedy.
