It's finished! The TKB-skull is done! Pics below cut (because I know some people aren't fans of skulls or snakes).

I was trying to get some natural lighting, and the only spot that didn't show off my crappy trailer was on hubby's pallet pile lol. Used a towel for underneath to help show off the colors a bit better.

I decided not to do the iridescence on the skull itself. Only Dia got the iridescence treatment (better pic to show it at end). I decided instead to 'dirtify' the skull. The scar didn't come out quite like I had hoped it would, but after adding a 'dirt' brushing over it I was a bit happier with it. I only gold 'capped' the teeth, leaving the matte behind it to really make it pop without looking too cartoony/Halloween decoration. All in all, I think he came out pretty close to what I had in my head.

We have a small pile of gravel dirt for various reasons and to help fill driveway potholes each spring. Had to take advantage of it lol.

Y'all when people talk about jimmy being dumb, watch and think how much is an atrocious memory, and how long is not being quick to understand things. If he settles in and works at it! Honestly I think the #1 thing about moving into the professional space that I wish I learned about sooner was the importance of finding a true mentor in your field. There's so much talk about network network network but having a few people with knowledge and experience truly ride for you beats the thousands of linkedin connections ten times out of ten.

I've read most of your meta and I'm sure you've mentioned Marc sending Layla the divorce papers without signing them, but was that a sort of covert distress signal? Why would he force her to find him and ask for his signature if he genuinely wanted to cut ties? And then there's Steven's sweet and sincere, "I would never divorce you." Do you think maybe the divorce papers were a way for Marc to unconsciously ask for help?

I don't think he would ever say it was a distress signal, because that would mean he'd have to admit that in the moment, it wasn't really what he actually wanted. But in a way, yeah, I think you could frame it that way. Because if you get to the core of what Marc really, truly wants, if you dig out all the bullshit and the darkness mixed in, it's that.. he wants her to say no. And there's a tiny part of him that knows she'll fight him on it. Because signing those papers gives them finality, and if she sends them back with her own, well. That's it.

I think that sending those papers was one of the hardest things Marc has ever had to do, and the man has killed people on more than about a hundred occasion. He loves Layla, more than anything, and he wants her to stay. Needs her to because she's one of the only things that makes him believe there might be some good left in him. But he's already wrapped it up in his mind that this is for her own good. Protecting her (in a way that he couldn't protect her father) is more important than loving her, because it allows her to live. When the alternative is that everyone else he's ever loved has died, and that's a weight he believes is his fault alone. He'd do anything to prevent it from happening again.

The thing about Marc is, he tries so hard to commit to the things he does in the name of other people. The lengths he goes to for Steven, leaving the love of his life to keep her alive. Hell, even going to his abuser's shiva, out of a twisted sense of familial duty and desperation for love and forgiveness, no matter how much it hurt. His selflessness is so astonishing, his love so all encompassing that he slips up. He makes mistakes. He doesn't sign the papers. He leaves things in a way that lets Steven find them. And it's not on purpose, not necessarily.

Because yeah, he does genuinely want to save them. But he doesn't want to leave them either. So his heart forces him to be a little selfish, every once in awhile. And I think sometimes he notices, and that makes him feel guilty again. My mistakes could get her killed. But I think he deserves to be a little selfish, every once in awhile.
