What if: Priest AU
Nico was given to the monastery by his family when they caught him with a boy, because they hope that would “fix” him. Somehow, he comes across an injured Percy and brings him to the monastery to nurse him back to health, not knowing he’s from a band of thieves/pirates who ultimately want to rob the monastery of the riches they took from the people.
"Why don't you try calling my name out instead of your God?"

B'Elanna, Neelix, Tuvok and Chakotay needed to star in an episode where they just talked about their different beliefs and approaches to spirituality/religion. Paired off and all together. I need to gain more insight. I need characterization and I need it to be messy.
#B'Elanna's difficulty with Klingon myths and religion (especially due to her internalized racism)#Chakotay's current strong belief in his own spirituality despite his initial complete rejection of it (and how B'Elanna seems to admire#and have talked with Chakotay about it extensively in the past given how many specifics she's aware of)#Neelix's belief in an afterlife being the only thing that comforted him after his entire family was killed - the knowledge that he would be#able to reunite with them again and that knowledge being ripped away from him#Does he still believe? Are there other aspects of his previous spiritual beliefs that are thrown into question?#Just because it isn't 'real' does it make it unimportant? How do we even know whether or not it's 'real'?#He died and doesn't remember reaching that tree and seeing his family - does that mean it didn't happen?#Tuvok's line in 'Innocence' about how he's begun to have doubts about whether or not a katra exists and what happens after someone dies#and his firm ties to Vulcan spirituality and ritual#ALL SO INTERESTING!!!!!!!!#star trek voyager#I don't think it'd be a calm or healthy conversation either - they're not therapists and I don't think anyone but Chakotay#would be particularly careful with his words#and before you say Tuvok's a Vulcan so he would be let me remind you that Tuvok told B'Elanna to her face that he thought Klingons#were basically savages - he is INDELICATE to say the least#Neelix is careful with his words bc he's a people pleaser for survival but also he has a tendency to bother people and be overly pushy#and I think he'd do a lot of research and be the one leading the conversation/the reason they get on the topic and continue on it#B'Elanna wouldn't want to talk about it. She wants to talk about it the least. But she must!!!! Bc the episode demands it!!#st voy

#tw religion?#kinda need to rant.. kinda wanna explain what's going on#some ppl are part of humanity but don't know how to be humane... like the guy i started talking to almost 2 weeks ago#liked him a lot bc he was funny sickeningly sweet mature and understanding.. until he was not#tl dr version is that we somehow drifted to the topic religion and i told him im not too religious and don't believe in superstition much#i was extremely respectful and even when he said that he does believe a lot i was like 'thats cool!! different people believe in different#things!!' and at first it was a normal convo until man went all psycho on me (after one damn week!!!) and started talking about how#id have to be religious in a relationship with him.. my dude i barely know your fav food can we not talk about relationships yet#but he says he doesn't even need a woman who cooks/cleans just someone who believes.. n im like i get it but i can't change myself like that#and then guy moves to marriage and is all 'well my entire family is religious' n my mom and sister (who's 16) would be putting pressure on#you n force you to pray etc.. and I'm like???? who can force anyone to a thing like that are u kidding#things escalate and my absolute STUPID ass tells him about my deepest fkn trauma to explain what made me abandon religion bc#life just never got better and this trauma remained for yrs... and he gets so angry that he says he wants to stop talking to me just to spam#me all day next day.. he'd keep messaging me switching between 'i still want you we shouldn't throw this away i have feelings for you'#AFTER A WEEEEEEKKKK!!! and then goes back to 'i wasted my time with you you were so unnecessary im in a bad mood bc of you'#even said 'you'll never find a guy with a trauma and mindset like this. i will find a religious girl but no one will love you like that'#and the worst thing is that he told his friends and mom about the trauma i had just to spite me.. note that he promised to never tell anyone#(and then still asked for forgiveness and for me to rethink whether we want to end this after telling me 473626x he wanted to end it)#(nothing even ever started you bitchass)#also note that his mom knows my mom n basically most of my relatives.. so i was here trembling for days fearing they'd get to know about it#mom somehow convinced her to not tell anyone bc it's important to me and very very fucking personal..#but he harassed me all day - i wouldn't answer and he'd send 55 messages.. multiple missed calls like dude i got so fkn scared#my heart jumped whenever he texted he was so fkn aggressive and SO MEAN#'you just needed to adjust and we would've been okay' 'tell me are u gonna fkn be religious or not????' 'you ruined everything' kinda mean#i just :') it was the worst time and i don't think i've ever seen someone degrade me so much or make me feel this defective#but.. it's finally over. his mom called my mom and mine was like pls teach him some manners.. n since i couldn't and wouldn't text him back#and literally avoided whatsapp bc of him she ended it all for me and now it's hopefully done forever#anyway i saw jks gcf performance yday n him singing still with you put a genuine smile on my face.. ill stick to THAT boyfriend honestly lol#def gonna delete later#but ty for reading if u did <3

Moral Orel doesn't seem 100% like a show I'd feel seen in if you don't know me but then I remember the episode with the special ed kids and underneath the usual satire on extremist bible belt religion it reminds me WAY too much of how actual special ed departments treated me and other kids growing up.
Like the writers must HAVE BEEN THERE IN LIFE, man. I'd kill to sit down with Dino Stamatopoulos and find out what the fuck inspired him and the other writing staff that day.
#husbandothings#moral orel#bonus fun tag rant? bonus fun tag rant...apparently#in those departments you are immediately written off as a tragic forever toddler by at least 50% of the staff regardless of your disability#there's good ones but the bad ones bring the fun spicy trauma#it doesn't matter how smart you actually are you gotta draw the sad face on that boy on the comic sans worksheet at the age of 15#in your free lesson spaces that you got because of reasons#if someone tells me they're a teaching assistant or have “qualifications” in autism and special needs development i immediately distrust#because I have never met a neurotypical person with those qualifications who knows how to treat kids like humans especially autistic kids#funniest part? I was mostly in the special ed department because of my hearing and not totally my undiagnosed autism#and a little because of wonky emotional development from get this...a freaking religious school#like i see adults in the show and i see the headteacher who tried to tell my parents i should forgive the bullies because jesus would#even though the truth is way more nuanced but he just wanted to wash his hands of it#it's funnier than it should be because that teacher would fit right in to this show for that and additional reasons I won't state here#my family were atheists but thought the school would be good#the weird thing is at that time as a little kid I liked the idea of believing in god but nothing that happened proved Him to me#and moral orel hits because it resonates with the fact i genuinely believe religion can do good and it's all about the people#the ones who want to use that faith for good in the world and surviving rough crap and not to do things that would make jesus flip tables#that has stuck with me for over a decade as has the people who felt the show reinforced their christianity#but anyway

How’s Tomassin doing? Besides, you know, wretched.
Surprisingly good actually? He's fallen in love with Innokenti, that blind and wild fairy-knight; who loves him in return. Bastian set them up, on the queer intuition that the two loneliest people he knew might have something meaningful to offer each other, despite their obvious differences.
It's very hard for Tomassin to be loved. It goes against the grain of that flinching thing at his heart to take up that much space in the world, to anyone. He will love - in quiet, aching solitude - very easily, and never ask for anything, or give any indication of his feelings. But how could he allow anyone to love him - blighted aberration that he is? How could that not be a great and selfish unkindness? What future could he offer someone, when he is on a forced march to kneel at God's feet and accept a seal of condemnation? How could he let someone open up a country in their heart for him, when he knows the touch of his feet upon its soil would poison the ground with salt?
But Innokenti had a blunt counter to all of Tomassin's objections: and had the nimbleness of mind, and perverse persistence, to make his case. Oh, you think you'd salt the earth inside his heart? Salt it, then: nothing grows here already, not anymore. At least you would be one living thing, in this vast and barren continent. Oh, you are afraid you couldn't offer him a future? He is fairy - what is the future to him? He lives in an endless present, and never thinks about tomorrow. You think you are condemned by your God: Innokenti has already been abandoned by his. He won't say that's not true or God doesn't hate you, Tomassin. What does he know about the Christian God? You could well be right. But he can hold your hand, in the darkness outside of salvation: and we could be a comfort to each other.
They've been very good for each other, since their love has been acknowledged between them. Innokenti has made Tomassin more comfortable in his own skin, more willing to speak up and less mortified to take up space; and Tomassin has made Innokenti more grounded, more patient, and more thoughtful. They are nearly inseparable, these days, and Tomassin's grief and shame over the unavoidable circumstance of his own existence has been undeniably, a little, alleviated.

functionally continuing my habit of being the empires redstoner crossover guy, i have come to a couple realizations.  no one understands my vision yet and i am going to explode.
Image Description under the cut!
[Image Description: A Venn diagram comparing BdoubleO100 and Ross Redstoner.  A green circle is labelled with “BdoubleO100″ and his glowstone cloak skin, while a red circle is labelled with “Ross Redstoner” and his skin, a squirrel in a red and yellow scarf.  All of the other text is in the centre of the Venn diagram, inside of both circles.  The text reads:
Redstone ““genius”“
Abandonment issues (needs friends)
Betrays their friends
Really effective possession arc that one time
Closely associated with a sun
Really likes to get enough sleep
Associated with time stuff

I'm thinking again about how much it annoys me when fics make Parmak a follower of the Oralian Way and Garak a scornful atheist when the material they draw on for that characterization portrays Garak as religious and as this being apart of his heritage- and connects Parmak to the Oralian Way in no way whatsoever. Aside from my general feelings about Hebitians and class in Cardassian society it makes my eye twitch because it almost feels like its implying they're like this because of their respective moralities and implying religious people are inherently good and kind and atheists are... whatever you want to call Garak... is pretty fucked.

Can't decide on whether or not Aoba’s “usually guys don't kiss other guys! That's weird!” lines are due to Aoba‘s overwhelming need to belong somewhere both due to his abandonment issues and his feelings of being outcast from his society (bullied for his feminine looks since he was a child) so he abdopted his homophobic society’s mindset of homosexuality being weird or shameful as a means to be more accepted OR if his whole “usually guys don't kiss other guys! are you playing for THAT team??” thing is due to the fact that, for the first 5-6 years of his life, he was raised in a church. Or it could just be internalized homophobia seeing as how much self hatred Aoba has within himself. Either way, I love picking apart his character and figuring out why certain things make him act this way or that way and how the way he thinks reflects his upbringing.

Apparently I have watched The Birdcage, with my family no less! I'd seen it referred to here but never connected the dots that it was the same movie I'd watched many years ago on tv, probably when I was a teenager.
I don't remember my parents' reaction to it but since I'd seen some of it and no one changed the channel, they were at least engrossed enough to watch? They can be cool about stuff sometimes, they are just very unpredictable about it.
#Rant#Personal#My parents are weird#My dad is sexist as in he believes in gender roles and frowns upon any type of effeminate behaviour in men#but he also believes that all women should be hashtag girlbosses#My mom reads/watches things with queer people all the time (she doesn't actively seek it but she doesn't get scandalised or whatever by it)#And she and my sister once had a conversation in which she said people should accept their queer kids and when my sister raised the#'hypothetical' whether she would do the same....she said yes?#Which.....um. That lady gets antsy when women don't wax their leg hair. Even complete strangers.#She and dad get weird about bra straps showing. You're telling me they are a-okay with their kids being bi??#Also what about the gender stuff#They are cool about muslims and yesterday my dad even tried to rationalise with his colleague about how they face so many disadvantages#and mom keeps bragging about her multi-religious college friend group#But then they also say things like 'I once went to a muslim colleague's house and it was /clean/. You couldn't even /tell/'#They obviously also are against casteism but then they turn around and spew some brahmin-manufactured religious bullshit#While being kind of meh about religion in general#Like I don't understand this on-the-fence behaviour. They clearly understand oppression. Why still cling to the status quo then?#They understand that women deserve financial freedom. queer people (sexuality based at least) deserve basic rights.#muslims deserve not to be harassed.#Why not take the next step and examine your own biases about these communities then?#I know the answer ofc. It's because they think they are 'progressive' and so they don't have any biases ever#It's frustrating. I want to come out. I'm tired.#But I can't. I can't speak about politics.#I can't even say 'hey. you know my male friend from college who wore a saree to our graduation? I thought he looked rad#and every day I wish I had his bravery'#Ughhhh sorry for this

Do you even understand what Chiori was to Morisu
#.txt#decagon house#mansion murders/yakata series#she was the love of his life and his lifeline and symbolized everything that was good to him#he believed so earnestly that she was perfect and flawless and incapable of wrong#she was like a god to him in a way#and believing that she was perfect and perfectly innocent was his religion. in a way#of course he thinks she couldn't have gone to a party and gotten drunk#that goes against his core beliefs#of course he thinks she could never have gotten so blackout drunk of her own will to have died#of course he thinks she was pressured into doing all of this#of course he thinks that she was murdered#ideal victims create ideal perpetrators etc. etc.#of course he thinks the mystery club killed her#he doesn't care about what motive they could have had (for they had none)#his god was dead and they killed her#of course he decided to kill them in turn#of course his 'last reason for living' became to 'paint a world without those sinners in it' (not direct quotes but close enough)#of course he fancied himself as some sort of divine judge#'i know Man can never become a god' and all#and who knows who chiori actually was#maybe she was just as morisu made her out to be. maybe she wasn't#in the end it doesn't matter#in the end chiori is only relevant as the driving force behind morisu's actions#maybe he always believed her to be so. or maybe he retroactively defined his beliefs around her death#we will never know#kawaminami and also sort of orczy and leroux give us more information about chiori#but even then she could really just be a normal girl who was pretty and kind and shy#who decided to have some fun for once and took some risks and died because of it#and it's just morisu who's absolutely deranged about her
