anon how much time do u have

thought about being jokingly tinhatting with my response to this but i dont actually think they full fucked or whatever. so instead i'm just gonna dump several thousand words of an earnest attempt to outline why geoff and gerard deserve the same treatment received by other legendary canonical friendships like bert & gerard, mikey & pete, etc etc

also i caught the riot fest covid so idk how comprensible i will be. and idk how much sense some of this will make if you don't already have, like, rudimentary knowledge about geoff rickly's start in the hardcore scene in new brunswick, nj, so obligatory plug of the thursday primer that me and nic @raytorosaurus put out a while ago.

but tl;dr, geoff rickly and gerard way were drawn to each other literally from the beginning. since then, neither have left the other's orbit. they are legit cosmically connected narrative foils who could have been each other's closest confidant but never have been more than incredibly meaningful people to the other due to instance after instance of wrong place, wrong time.

i'll do my best to sum up some of the most poignant moments in their over twenty-year-long friendship, but nic and i are drafting several other posts that more diligently delineate the connections between thursday and mcr in their overlapping, mirrored careers and similarities/divergences in their goals/approaches as musicians.

so anyway despite what you might have assumed from the story that goes around where geoff heard gerard and mikey (badly) playing vampires at the eyeball house and wasn't impressed, i believe that at that point they'd already been friends for a while.

this is how gerard recalls the moment he met geoff:

Way: I remember it super vividly. Do you remember? I was walking out of the record shop that Alex [Saavedra, Eyeball Records] worked at on Kearny Avenue and you were standing against a wall wearing a black t-shirt. You were rail skinny and you looked like you were dying and you were so pale with this jet black hair. Rickly: My vegan lifestyle was not agreeing with me. Way: It looked like the sun was killing him. [long pause] And I thought he was super cool. (from their interview with vice in 2015)

long pause and i thought he was super cool.....like....

this is what geoff looked like back then btw. im guessing it was around 2000/early 2001 that they met since thats the outer limits of geoff's black hair goth days

gerard designed shirts for bands in the scene, including this one for thursday, probably done around 2001 when the dove became the main symbol associated with thursday. at this point mikey was a regular at the eyeball house but gerard was still hiding away in his house, but would always talk about his brother.

Geoff: "I knew Mikey from parties at the eyeball house. I liked Mikey a lot, and he was like, 'you're gonna love my brother Gee (he called him Gee all the time), Gerard, he's the best comic book artist, he's always at home, just working on comic books.' So I was like yeah, I wanna meet this kid, you know, I wanna make comic books with him, you know, that sounds awesome!" (source)

after that geoff kept asking mikey when his brother would come down to the eyeball house, because he'd loved comics since he was a kid, but he was too shy to verbalize that, and his love of comics wasn't something he'd ever actually shared with anyone other than his grandmother, who had just passed away, but he heard that this quiet guy who'd sometimes hang out with the scene's resident kid brother was this amazing comic book artist, and geoff decided that gerard was a person he wanted to know.

So like they were literally talking about writing a comic book together: geoff would write and gerard would draw. but they never were able to spend that much time together. thursday found massive and unanticipated success in late 2001 when understanding in a car crash started playing on mtv nonstop and gerard was still a hermit for the most part but had started to piece together the band that would become my chemical romance.

so then blah blah blah the story where gerard and mikey introduced the idea of their band to geoff we've all heard it. i linked it above but you can read the excerpt from dan ozzi's sellout here if you aren't familiar with the details already.

and that story ends with geoff listening to their demo and realizing that this little band actually had something. but i firmly believe that geoff loved the scene and was so compelled by gerard's art and wanted to collaborate creatively with him that he would have been willing to do it regardless of if he came around to their music or not.

geoff said this in a podcast in 2018:

"Gerard is sort of like... when he's not sort of hiding out in his house somewhere, he's actually so charming and personable. There's a reason why I was so drawn to him, and that he's, like, a superstar."

obviously we'll never know, because geoff was so compelled by the music that he played their demo to death in the tour van and then took the only two weeks that thursday had off in one of the busiest years of their career while in the midst of a super contentious legal affair with their record label to produce bullets.

okay now that i am looking at what i have written so far i look like an insane person and that is okay but i think that i will save the rest for another longer post about the fated careers of mcr and thursday. but i feel that i have done my job by just giving you this taste. more to come but their friendship literally so expansive and detailed (in ways that I don't usually see articulated here) that a single tumblr post is never going to do it justice. as i said, stay tuned, we're working on something more.

tl;dr (another one) gerard and geoff are perennially obsessed with each other & have been since literally the first time that they laid eyes on each other and it comes out the second that either of them have to be even a little reflective on the other's career thanks for reading my manifesto bye.

after d10 woke up from his beauty sleep (got knocked out badly after his first major fight with lady), he saw how the dieselworks has changed. everything's more organized, the workers are now more orderly (even though they're still incompetent), and he noticed that his goggles - one of his many marvels in engineering - is gone. HIS FAVORITE GOGGLES!!!! DID SPLODGE MISPLACE THEM? DID ARRY AND BERT BROKE THEM WHILE HE WAS SNORING?

then d10 remembered. percy. that meek little runt that joined his cause. he took over everything while he was out of commission. there he saw the young man, standing proudly on the turntable while light shines behind him, while d10 is slouching weakly by the elevator's doorway, shrouded in darkness. percy looked peaceful. his scrunched eyebrows and thin frown don't really reflected any hatred or malice or joy from taking over his throne. just sheer determination.

d10 has never felt so angry as such lack of emotion.

oh, d10 is not pleased. everything he has worked so hard for is now under the control of some mail delivery guy? sure, percy serves him and gives him intel on the nature of gold dust and how to spot its patrons, but how?

then d10 realized that percy was merely putting an act to let d10's guard down. but... as long as his goals are the same as d10's - to capture lady - d10 would be just inconvenienced. in d10's mind, he'll get the dieselworks back under his control again using his sweet words, and everything will still be the same. but d10 has a feeling that percy has another plan in mind.

SO I JUST WROTE DOWN THE ENTIRE DREAM AND MY LAPTOP CRASHED AND DELETED IT HERES IT AGAIN

I was in an abusive home so I ran away and got a ride from a guy named bert to Louisiana because I wanted to go to texas and we made a stop at a gas station and I hung out with some kids around my age which were all brothers and they were listening to Hound Dog by Big Mama Thornton on the radio and when they asked me my name, I said I was Fritz, and if I was from the city because of my accent, and when I said yes they turned off their radio and began singing it for me, which they were really good 10/10 and also I'm pretty sure this was like the 40s/50s and stuff but I gave them a buck each and went back to the car with bert and he dropped me off in a town in Louisiana and I got a ride from a beatnik and we talked about elvis (I just watched the movie before going to bed so I'm sure my dream was heavily influenced by that) and how much we bothed liked his music then she and I sang a song by him together and she dropped me off at a hotel in texas but I wandered till I found a supply store and I asked every guy who went in and came out if they were looking for a farmhand because I was cheap and one guy said yes his name was Jameson Mills I think and he took me to his farm and it was so big and beautiful, and his wife and son were very nice, his son was almost old enough for college, and he always came to me when he needed help with his homework? I probably made it worse but by god was I trying. he was so nice and I'm pretty sure he was gay but I cant be sure, and one day while I was feeding the pigs he came over to me shouting that he got in, and we hugged and jumped up and down and at his celebration, THEY INVITED ME which was so nice and Mr. Mills told me that I'd get his room instead of sleeping in the barn and stuff because he'd be in college, which was nice because sleeping in the barn was dirty and cold so I was happy, and when he drove off for college a few days later Mr. Mills said to me, "Fritz, where're you from?" and I started panicking because I know I typed this fast but I was with these guys for like, three years, and I was juggling the possibility that they'll send me away if I told them the truth, but for some reason I said where I was from for realsies and he said "I thought so. you got a strong city accent." then went inside telling me to bring my stuff from the barn into his son's room. so I did, and every so often the son would visit and now I was sure he was gay because he told me he had a boyfriend and that he was very nice and wanted to meet me, which was awesome btw but I had to decline because Mr. Mills was old and couldn't hold the farm down and he said that I should hire a temporary one, and I said I'd think about it, I was probably like eighteen nineteen at this point, and Mr. Mills asked me if I was gonna try for college, I told him no, he said I should try, and I said I'd rather stay on the farm and stuff. then I went to bed after having a phone call with the son, and I woke up. in my world. Asia I panicked because the sun was up and I slept in. Asia I forgot wich world I was in. this is still so baffling to me

I finally glimpsed a big important Boss Director Guy who was recently brought into the company and has everyone piss-scared. It's a very relaxed workplace up in HQ and he's apparently the opposite, and he's very high-standards and no bullshit. Lost Girls

nothing special just why I love the bond between mikaannie :)

Mikasa and annie's friendship is one of my favourite things about the final arc. To think that their relationship has progressed from mikasa cutting annie's fingers to her latching onto annie's hand to launch into enemy titans?? Nothing much just some killer teamwork!! They just knew no words nothing just one look from each other and bam annie throwing mikasa at OKAPI! They have just come to trust and understand each other that well. I have a headcanon after this chapter that in the future, annie teaches mikasa some of her martial art skills. I also imagine them being best friends, because well they are both lost girls and also because they have similar personalities (yet some differences too such as annie's snarky and blunt, while mikasa is shy and quiet) I feel like together they would bring out the best in each other. And keeping in mind that isayama did want to mikasa to return to her old self, which is being the happy little girl she once was, having annie as a friend creates more opportunities for that. Also, mikasa brings out a soft side in annie, she sees that mikasa like her is someone that deeply drives meaning from her relationships. For annie it's her dad, but recently it has been armin. They had both been striving throughout the story to protect those bonds, that's why annie breaks down when she hears that her father is likely dead and she comes back to help the alliance because she can still help armin. Also, doesn't hurt that both mikasa and annie have as levi likes to call it "gloomy" personalities so it's probably easier to be around each other.

Their camaraderie doesn't just end at the battlefied, in fact they have constantly been able to comfort each other in times when no one else could. Mikasa understood that annie didn't wana fight anymore and likewise annie knew it's extremely painful to ask mikasa to kill eren. The fact that mikasa is with them on this journey that is about stopping/killing eren itself is a emotionally exhausting task for her. While the scouts are not wrong in pushing mikasa towards it, it was just a very considerate move on annie's part. She grabbed mikasa by the collar ( that's how comfortable annie is with the girl she has called a beast in the past :) and assured her that she doesn't have to do anything she doesn't want to.

Before they were bickering about their priorities and now they are respecting each other's. I liked how annie didn't forget that the azumabitos are important to mikasa and first thing she does is informs mika about it.

While this post is about mikaannie, I would like to just add that I don't think people give mikasa credit for mingling with warriors as smoothly as the others. I know everyone else has too, but the 104th were empathsizing with bert, reiner and ymir even back in volume 12 , while mikasa tried to shut off those emotions. She told historia and ymir that she can't show anyone mercy because these people took away her home. And now she is doing the opposite of it so doesn't that count as development? Post timeskip Mikasa has time and again shown that she understands that the world is not as black and white, she was disappointed in what eren did in liberio, she even reminded eren that they have been able to get along with some marleyans, she saved gabi and has not been actively at anyone's throat for eren's sake. She didn't bust eren out of jail, she knew eren was in the wrong. And now she is not fighting with the warriors or anyone about protecting eren, it's just a desperate plea from someone who is on the verge of losing her home. People are free to dislike her, but Idk maybe I am trying to say cut her some slack? Eren is such an important part of mikasa's life because it was when she met him that she realized " This world is cruel" , which is really depressing if you you think about it like don't just skim over this dialogue as something trivial, give it some thought....Then eren wraps the scarf around her and mikasa is like " The world is cruel but also beautiful" SHE GOT THE BEAUTIFUL PART FROM EREN!! So, if she is refusing to let go of the beautiful don't undermine her for that. Mikasa letting eren go is not about eren it's about her accepting that while eren showed her the beauty in this world, she can still find beauty even if he is not beside her. Kiyomi is there to remind mikasa that she has a home, that people other than eren and armin care about her like family. Now she has found a friend in annie too.

Sorry for going off on a tangent. Mikasa is my comfort character and once I start talking about her it's hard to shut me up lol.

Lastly, THIS! Are we still reading attack on titan?

Mikasa: There! That one, that pig or whatever titan that is!

Annie: Which one?

Mikasa: That one! Over there that thing!

Annie: Where?

And when annie finally tells her that pig looking thing is an Okapi, Mikasa goes

I swear I never knew mikasa and annie being friends would be a thing, specially not them having such an interestingly funny and tender dynamic.

TMI: Btw, pieck was great this chapter too. I do like characters other than mikasa, but mikasa is a very precious character to me and this blog is my safe place of actualizing my adoration for Mikasa and Eremika <3

Bert- out of all of them is the most social towards humans (and so do buses in general) so they would look the most human like since he has alot of experience with them and knows exactly what it means to look nice to a human.

Skiff- he was a lone sail boat until sailor john found him and at first mistaken him for a mermaid. Sailor john put wheels on his boat and home-made prosthetics with wood and roller skates due to the added wheels on his boat don't translate to his humanoid form for some reason.

Of course sailor john did abused him by forcing him to stay as a sail boat by kicking him on the head so he won't materialized he would rather just have a nermol sail boat rather than one that thinks, skiff manages to manifest and throw him overboard with his tail. By the end Sodor legend of the lost treasure. He gotten proper clothing, a new livery and a job on the coast and is a free sail boat who is in control

Captain: he's similar to skiff buy quite different too. Instead of sails to swim in the sea he can just use his propellers to swim. Weather at the ocean or on his ship. The ground around him acts like water only on land is where this doesn't happen.

Harold- Harold is a strange one being the one one here who's just have their livery but in a way he rarely gets out of his helicopter around humans. He in a way has four legs in the air to support the weight on his landing gears but they retract back into two legs when he's walking on land.

Trevor- isn't that different to steam engines other than being able to walk on unstable natural land without slipping,tripping or braking. He has a longer funnel than most humanoids but to he doesn't care he likes it out. He doesn't have a leg digging problem like most steam engine's since his legs are shorter and his wheels are made of rubber.

Most maybe different to other humanizations or humanoids but they love themselves and others

Bertholdt wasn’t the best in feelings. He gets too nervous and too flustered to even approach his crush let alone talk to them. So when he started to like you, his heart just couldn’t take it.

You were so beautiful and so strong. Oh and one other thing, you were best friends with Porco.

You and Porco never separated. He was calm around you and you two always messed around with each other. Many jokes about the both of you being a couple but you always shot those accusations down. But it didn’t help Bertholdt’s situation.

“Bert, you really need to stop moping around and go and ask her out already.” Reiner tells him as they sat on the grass. You were by Porco and Marcel not too far away. “Reiner. It’s not that easy. Look at how she is with Porco.” He points to you and Porco begins to tickle you. Your beautiful laugh rang in Bertholdt’s ear making his heart flutter. You started running away from Porco and made your way straight to Reiner and him. “Oh look she’s coming here. Y/N! Hiya!” Reiner yells out and you smile as you hide behind Bertholdt. “Hi Reiner. Hi, Berry. Sorry for using you as a shield but you’re perfect!” You laugh as you lay on Bertholdt’s back. Lucky you were there otherwise you would’ve seen Bertholdt’s red face. That nickname you gave him never failed to make him melt like butter.

“Y/n! I can see you!” Porco calls out and you gasp as he grabs you and throws you in the ground and tickles you. “POCK! STOP IT! I-I CANT BREATHE!” You laugh out and Bertholdt groans internally. He should be the one tickling the shit of you. And making you laugh.

Your laughs stopped and he turns to see you gone with Porco carrying you over his shoulder back to the camp. “Berry. That’s cute.” Reiner teases him as Bertholdt puts his hand in his face to hide. Dammit.

The next day, Bertholdt was sitting watching you and Porco again. He sighs thinking how he can confess to you. But you probably wouldn’t want a tall ass, clumsy, shy guy like him. You look from your conversation with Porco and lock eyes with him. You smile and wave at him while he blushes and waves back. “I’ll be back.” You tell Porco and walk to Bertholdt who’s heart was beating in his ears.

“Hi Berry. Whatcha doing?” You ask him as you sit next to him. “N-Nothing much, Y/n. You?” He asks shakily. You furrow your eyebrows and look at him. “Are you okay, Berry? You seem...off. Everything good?” Oh for Titans sake. It’s now or never , Bertholdt.

You lean front and his face turns cherry red and he leans back. “U-Uh, I, uh. Never mind. It’s nothing important!” He stutters and you pout. “Oh come on, Berry! You can just say that you have something to ask and leave me hanging.” You groan and put your hands on your hands.

Your little pout makes Bertholdt’s heart squish in cuteness. Your hair blew with the wind and before he could even think, he moves your hair away from your face and your eyes widen. His hand felt so warm, but it sent shivers down your spine. He quickly pulled away and gasped. “Ah! Y/n! I’m so sorry. I didn’t know what I was doing! Forgive me-” your lips land on his on a heartbeat and shuts him up. You pulled away and look at him. “I like you, Bertholdt. I like you a lot.” You whisper and it all goes silent which makes you worry a bit. “Berry? Are you okay?” You ask and you lean down to look at Bertholdt’s face which was super red. “Berry! You look like a cherry!” You laugh and he just falls back on the ground. “Ah! Berry!”

“Y/n, stop. You’re so cute.” He says and covers his face. You straddle his waist and move his hands away from his face and kiss his nose. “Ah so you guys finally admitted your feelings for each other? Who confessed first?” Porco asks and you point to yourself while Bertholdt covered his face again.

“Reiner! You owe me 5 bucks!” Porco yells out. “What?! Why?” “Y/n confessed first!” “Ah SHIT!”

3x04 - The Funeral Vision

At the end of 3x04, Isobel and Maria clearly see the full funeral vision.  Here’s the Deets:

Alex says they're covering up a murder and Maria says it's all her fault.  

But Maria and Isobel are both in the vision and separate from it, able to observe it.  Isobel takes Maria's hand and the vision clarifies, becomes less blurry.

Bert is the one who talks about complaining to the sheriff. And he says it to Michael.

Btw I think that other guy with Michael and Bert might be Bert's same buddy from Open Mic Night in 2x06, but I'm not sure. The hair is different but the eyes look the same...

Rosa is in the front row, crying and hugging a woman whose face we can't see.

Max goes up to speak, is crying, and can't.

As he sits back down, Liz walks in and takes a seat in the back row.

We see the preacher or host of the funeral now.

Guitarist plays Canción Mixteca on the guitar

Mayte Lopez places a bundle of sunflowers on the casket.

They approach the casket and the Valenti Coat of Arms is etched into it.

Specifically, any headcanons of the Sodor Engines interacting with the internet, or the internet in general?

For some reason, I’d imagine that podcasts and the like are popular among vehicles in general.

That is a question that I've been working on for some time - because I'm workshopping my own Tornado headcanon (and boy oh boy does she use the internet a lot) - but I have some ideas for the Sodor engines as well: 

Henry is probably the most "plugged in" engine on the island, weirdly enough. One of his drivers gave him an iPod back in the early 2000s, and kindly preloaded it with a bunch of torrented music.

 BTW, that works because all the engines are now equipped with automatic train warning systems, and the little on-board computer has a USB port - as a nice side effect it allows music players to work with the engines in the same way as bone-conducting headphones do. The computer also acts as some kind of computer interface, which I am not going to explain how that works because Jesus Christ I don’t know how it does either.  

 Henry has managed to upgrade his iPod a few times since thanks to hand-me-down units from NWR staff, so he eventually got his buffers on a wifi-enabled iPod Touch and now downloads new music from the station wifi. He does listen to podcasts, but as every other engine will tell you, you could show Henry ten thousand new and exciting songs from the best artists in the world, and his top ten played songs are still going to be Genesis, Phil Collins, and Yes. Bear considers it a win that he managed to convince Henry to regularly listen to Rush after a mere twenty years of convincing. 

 Mavis and Daisy listen to a very interesting program called The News, because as stated elsewhere, they invest a shitload of money and need to be on top of things. Thomas and Percy wish that Daisy would use headphones or something similar to that, instead of listening to Bloomberg TV at loud volumes in the middle of the night. Toby frankly doesn’t mind, as it’s very nice to be kept up-to-date on the outside world.  

In a move that surprises no-one, Bill and Ben have a podcast where they talk about whatever they think about at that moment - usually horse-racing, investing, and clay mining. As such, they have a wide audience, almost none of whom know that they’re that Bill and Ben, as their podcast is audio-only.  

 In an also unsurprising move, Edward and BoCo have been made very much aware that Bill and Ben have a podcast, but are still unsure as to what the hell a podcast is, despite being frequent guests on it.  

Of the main line diesels, only Bear has shown any real interest in the internet, and was immediately put in charge of the Amazon Alexa when a unit was installed in the diesel shed. He also has an iPod that he got for Christmas a few years back. (The NWR has a very good personal  electronics recycling program called give it to Henry, he’ll make use it.)  

Bear does listen to podcasts as well as music, but his choices are so insufferably boring that even Henry refuses to listen to them. (I don’t really listen to podcasts - despite making one - so insert the most boring podcast you can think of here.) 

 As for other internet uses... 

Gordon is very up-to-date on the newest social media trends - somehow - but only really cares when he is involved. He won’t admit it, but he’s been trying to figure out how to work a camera/selfie stick for some time so he can start up his own Instagram account. So far he has been unsuccessful, but one day he will manage it. 

 James has had an ongoing feud with his own Wikipedia page for about a decade now. The article sourced most of its information about his construction off of some out-of-print book about the L&Y. The book in question is accurate about James’ class, but not James himself - as he was a prototype engine. There’s no other primary sources available, so the very dedicated Wikipedia mod who created the page won’t change it - no matter how much James complains that he was there! He knows what happened! 

Every now and again a TTTE fan blog/tumblr will make a post about hypothetical “ships” of the Sodor engines. Most of the time it’s shipping the core characters like Gordon and Henry, much to Gordon’s bafflement and Henry’s amusement! 

Only one blog (a ttte fan tumblr by the curious name of @mean-scarlet-deceiver  ) has gotten it right. Henry actually reached out to congratulate this blogger, but was unfortunately mistaken for a very dedicated roleplay account.  

James is very annoyed by these blogs, as they have never once correctly guessed who he is “shipped” with! He has tried several times to be seen in public with Delta, but these events have never gone as planned - the “best” instance is when Edward rolled by at exactly the wrong moment, leading to months of speculation that JamesxEdward was the ship to look out for! 

Thomas, being a generally oblivious sort of engine, was totally unaware of the online fan community around the TV show until he started getting actively harassed by vloggers and Instagrammers in the early 2010s. He’s fine with it now, but it was a deeply unusual experience for most of 2012.  

Toby has developed an unexpectedly popular following on social media following his collab with Stormzy. His official twitter is huge now, with over a million followers, even if he has no idea what to do with it. He posts rarely, but usually manages to make an incredible post when he does.

No-one is sure who told Oliver what a “fan-production” is, but if you manage to get ahold of him for any period of time and ask him nicely, he will lend his voice to your TTTE fan-project, so long as it isn’t about [INSERT TERRIBLE SOCIAL/POLITICAL VIEW(S) HERE]. This means that he has 100% voiced dramatic readings of NSFW Fanfics before, which is always an absolute riot to spring on people unannounced.

There is a series of slice-of-life TTTE fanfics on Ao3 that have been written with such accuracy and innate railway knowledge that people are sure it was written by a Sodor engine, but nobody knows which one.

The Culdee Fell Railway has very active Instagram, Twitter and YouTube accounts, with all of the engines and coaches showing up regularly. It’s about the closest any of the railways on Sodor have come to what those outside the UK would call “normal locomotive social media”.

The Skarloey Railway has social media accounts too, but they don’t really feature the engines in any meaningful way, instead being used as a normal service announcements page.  

 The SR is a real working railway that doesn’t rely on tourism money as much as the others do, so they get a bit of a pass here.  

 The Arlesdale Railway has Twitter and YouTube, which didn’t usually get a lot of hits until 2020, when Ivan and Amanda Farrier started badgering the staff to make some videos just to alleviate some boredom. So far the most popular videos on the channel are a front-mounted camera video of the entire line slow-tv style, Bert explaining how steam engines work, and a video of Mike complaining about Justin Bieber for a solid half-hour.  

 That’s about it as far as Sodor goes, but before we’re done, I want to take a moment to talk about Tornado, because I have some fun ideas for her... 

First of all, we need to establish that Tornado is very young. Her construction only started in late 90′s, and she was steamed to life in 2000, putting her firmly into the “Zoomer” category. Add in the fact that she was built by a bunch of old men who didn’t really know how to treat a new engine, and she was raised much more like a human than a locomotive - I’ll get to this much more in the proper Tornado Headcanon post, but what this means here is that when social media started being a thing in the mid-to-late 2000′s, the people at the A1 Trust decided that they needed a young person to run things like Twitter, Facebook, and Myspace... and, well, Tornado was the youngest person in the trust by a large margin.

I should state here that in the rest of the world, locomotives are on the internet at roughly the same level as humans are, so there’s plenty of equipment to connect a phone/computer/camera to an engine - being English, the A1 Trust didn’t know how common it was, but they managed to get it up and running just the same.

 So Tornado has very quickly become attuned to the internet, just like any other teenager would. (yes, let’s let that settle into our minds for a moment - Tornado is barely old enough to drink in the US!) Quite naturally that means that she knows social media inside and out, and is actually quite a proficient social media manager for the trust, managing all of their social pages. More than one person who has complained about the trust on twitter has unknowingly been complaining to Tornado herself! 

 “On the internet, nobody knows that you’re a dog Engine”. 

 Tornado has her own personal social media accounts too, but most/all of the time she gets mistaken for a very dedicated role-player, as the general perception of British Locomotives is that they don’t tweet. This has resulted in some amazing reactions from podcast hosts (because, as you might expect, Tornado is very knowledgeable about steam traction in the 21st century, and tweets about it often, so train podcasts want to talk to her) when she gets invited onto video calls, turns on her webcam, and is met with screams from people who suddenly realize that her profile picture is accurate.  

 By far the best instance of this is when she was invited onto a video call with a railfan podcast. She was at the NRM at the time and managed to convince them to let her use their Skype setup. A wide-angle lens was needed because she was on the turntable in the Great Hall, so that podcast quickly got sidetracked when her webcam was turned on and revealed Tornado, with Mallard, Evening Star, City of Truro, and Green Arrow visible behind her. Whatever the original topic was quickly got thrown out in favor of a 2-hour Q&A with some of the most famous engines in the UK.

RNM 3x04

Although I’m enjoying the season so far, I gotta say, the episodes feel super disconnected, this one most of all. I blame the fact that Liz (THE LEAD) and Rosa still aren’t participating in the main fucking plot :)))

I’m still extremely wary of Rosa’s storyline. I think it makes sense for the character, and that *for now* they’re keeping it in line with it being more about Rosa proyecting/exorcising her issues than about Wyatt Long’s manpain, but. I’m eyeing it. And I really want her to be more involved in the main plot/do more stuff. Now that Kyle is in peril and Long is leaving town (which made me wonder whether he’ll become a suspect, actually), I hope that’s where she’s headed. I loved her art (it always has so much personality in it, I love how they do it) and her quote about people changing and becoming who they want to be.

I feel that with this storyline I’m doing a reverse of my usual “things I roll with in fiction but wouldn’t stand for irl” LOL. Because if I was in Rosa’s shoes I WOULD try to deradicalize someone like Long -and there’s no shortage of people like Long in my hometown, so I’m not just talking out of my ass here-, less for him and more as harm reduction and for my own morals. But this could derail Rosa’s storyline in really annoying ways. And I REALLY don’t trust this show’s track record with race. On top of that, a lot of the discourse around redemption arcs~ conveniently omits the fact that only white male characters are pressumed to get them after they commit horrible acts. Why can’t Flint, a MoC, be the one to get a redemption arc instead, for example? It could’ve been painfully easy to switch their storylines, and it could’ve been interesting since Rosa actually disliked him in high school. But the show suddenly decided to care for Long’s inner life. Because white characters (and people) are afforded more complexity by others, more good faith.

I’m not TOO worried about Kyle because it feels too early in the season to fully close that plot. But if they killed him I don’t know that I could continue with the show. I adore Rosa, but her storyline isn’t grabbing me; and I dig Michael’s family drama with Nora and the dictator, but they’re not as ~dear to me. Kyle this season was the one reuniting it all. And they can’t kill him before we figure out everything with the communicator and his father!! C’mon. Anyway. I did love him this episode, helping out; and his scenes with Michael (my rareship is sailing! xDD) were great, from their bitchiness with the radio to their perspectives during their argument. The moment Michael pushes him to take cover and then removes Kyle’s hand from his shoulder asldkfjaf. This fandom is weak for not writing me multiple pages of this rareship, js.

Speaking of rareships sailing LOL, I can’t believe after my joke post about Bert x Kyle I got a mini scene asdlfjasdf, where Bert talks to Kyle and pays a compliment to his mother. I’ve also said since then that I wanted more Bert in the show, but frankly, I wish it was for more alien/conspiracy/fun stuff (like his artisanal beer or his werewolf obsession! or get into the main alien plot!), and not an Issue Storyline that I don’t even trust the show to handle properly.

Maria and Isobel’s vision quest was fun, although I resent the fact that the Liz we saw for half the episode was a fake (seriously, BRING HER TO THE DAMN MAIN PLOT ALREADY). I don’t care much for the two of them bonding, tbh, but if it’s what Maria wants, so be it. And her moments with Kyle this season have made me more lenient towards Isobel, at least. I’m also curious about some of the elements in the quest: the first things Maria sees are Michael sitting in her bar and Rosa painting her table <33. Bert is around being attacked by racists. I also dig that either/both of them pictured Kyle in his doctor getup (with the radio).

Wrt the vision itself, I’m still on denial about the dead being Kyle lol. I’ve heard all the theories: fake death to hide the aliens (I hope that can get solved because if Kyle couldn’t for some reason continue his career in medice it would CRUSH him), and his mother (please don’t) seem the most likely options after this episode. Others are Sanders (for the hints in last week’s) or even Arturo (for Rosa and Liz’s reactions, although obviously the “Valenti” crest wouldn’t make sense there). I also don’t see how it makes sense to cover Kyle’s death if Logan killed him? Unless Max tries to heal him and leaves a handprint. Anyway, I hope none of the above die and it can be resolved. And BTW: the SPN war flashbacks I’ve witnessed in the tags with the “killing” method are. Something. I think RNM still kept the scene dramatic and the audience concerned, but man. The risk of that reference... I don’t know that it was worth it lol.

BRING LIZ TO THE MAIN STORYLINE FFS. I like what we see of her on LA in abstract, but in practice... she’s the lead ffs. One episode where she’s out and having a nice time dancing (those scenes were lovely, admittedly) like this one can be great, but after three episodes where she’s been so removed of it all? Nuh huh. Given recent events (Kyle’s attack, the handprint on her chest reacting, her resignation) I hope it changes soon. And I hope Heath can be taken at face value, because I don’t trust this show’s track record with MoC that could inconvenience its storylines (see Noah and Diego, or even Flint). Also, I LOLED at her dream in the beginning, with her imagining Max apologizing to her and expressing her own concerns about getting lost in their relationship lmfao (as if that would ever cross his mind xD).

His scenes with Kyle seem designed to get Michael out of his funk wrt his heritage, and I appreciate it (especially if it’s THIS, and not the useless or even counterproductive pep talks of anyone else Michael cares more about that does the trick lol). I’m still eagerly awaiting for development on this front. Related to that, I’ve seen the theories about Jones being his father, but. Eh. It’s not that I don’t see how it could be possible (he’s incredibly powerful and can make fire), but. To put it bluntly? I don’t think the actor can pull off what I want from the Dictator. I want someone charismatic, and preferably visibly older than Michael that actually looks like his father. Jones would be a terrible miscast on both accounts. If they bring someone else JUST for Michael it could also be a sign of him really taking over the storyline (which I’m still iffy about because of my other faves, but it’s an interesting way to see where the show is headed).

I feel they could have taken Jones to more interesting places but there’s still time. The good news is that he shaved his godawful beard AND saved a dog’s life lol. Also, am I the only one that thought he might’ve known Noah, when he grabbed his and Isobel’s picture? I’m curious about that.
