Prompt# 12 - Has He Asked Yet?
Tumblr media
<<Late Heavensward Spoilers Ahead>>
Miss the Boat - ‘be too slow to take advantage of an opportunity’
——————————
“So? Has he asked yet?”
Katsum eyed Y’shtola who was grinning across the table at her, swirling the wine glass in her hand. She’d been asking that a lot lately; especially since the battle on the Steps of Faith with Nidhogg’s shade and the end of the Dragonsong War. She knew who she was asking about; Aymeric. Ever since they had come to Ishgard, Y’shtola and Thancred immediately caught one to the chemistry going on between the Warrior of Light and the Lord Commander and had been keeping a rather close eye on it, asking from time to time if they’d asked each other to go out on a date or a walk or something. Each time, she answered that she hadn’t and he hadn’t asked her, and she could tell the two were slowly getting frustrated at that answer.
“If you are asking what I’m pretty sure you are,” Katsum huffed quietly so that the whole of the Forgotten Knight didn’t hear and handed Midgardsormr who sat on her shoulder half of her butter tea cookie before she lifted her teacup to take a sip, “No. And before you ask-”
“Have you asked him?”
“No…” Katsum rolled her eyes softly, “Why are you so hung up on this? You and Thancred both.”
“Because it’s the first time either of us has seen you smile or fawn over someone, ANYONE. So of course we are maybe playing a bit of matchmaker and making sure he doesn’t slip away from you.” She hummed with a bright smile before she turned her head to the side and looked at her seriously, “Though you do realize that if you don’t act at some point, you may lose him?”
Katsum paused and glanced over at her over the rim of her tea cup.
Y’shtola continued, “He is a very handsome man, Katsum, and a nobleman with a small fortune as well. Let alone that he now holds the highest seat of power in Ishgard. It won’t be long before someone makes a move if you don’t.”
Katsum narrowed her eyes and set down her cup, glaring at Y’shtola slightly, “You aren’t thinking to yourself are you?”
“If I said yes, would that prompt you to make yours?” She shook her head with a laugh as Katsum looked like she was about to hiss at her, “Relax, child. I have no romantic motivations towards him, no. But I will ask him for you if you don’t say something soon.”
Her jaw dropped, “You wouldn’t.”
“Oh but I will,” The white-furred miqo’te finished her glass and stood to her feet, “We haven’t seen you happy before, Katsum. Not truly like we have seen you lately. I don’t want you to lose this so please ask before you regret not asking. And as I said, if you don’t, I will ask him for a date for you. Don’t make me have to embarrass you like that, hm?”
Y’shtola then turned and made her way to the bar to get another drink and Katsum just watched her go. Truly, it was nice of them to be looking out for her and want her to be happy. They had nothing to gain from it - save for maybe some entertainment she guessed - and yet still both Y’shtola and Thancred were moved to try and help her and Aymeric get together. It was heart-warming a little…but it also made Katsum very anxious and feel like she was always being watched with the two of them acting a bit like excited parents wondering when she was going to ask the boy out.
“I suppose you aren’t going to tell them that you both have been ‘going out’ for a month or so now, correct?” Midgardsormr quietly asked from on her shoulder, chuckling, “And you aren't going to tell her about your date tonight either?”
Katsum’s cheek flushed a little as she looked back to her tea cup with a soft smile, “Nope. They’ll figure it out I’m sure, but for now, it’s kind of nice keeping it quiet.”
At this the little dragon chuckled again and munched on his piece of the cookie, “Indeed.”

WIP Wednesday
Tagged by @crackinglamb tysm 💜
I actually have a different wip to post from now! The brain juice finally spilled over and I have started procrastinating my ARR patch wip by starting the HW wip and eventually I'll get both done. Theoretically.
Just like last time, I have completely lost track of who's doing what in my mutuals circle so if you're the writerly type (or any creative type, really) feel free to do this and say I tagged you :)
----
They fell silent again, aside from the crunching of snow underfoot, as they trudged up the beaten path to the familiar stone walls. When they were noticed by the guards, Kitali stepped ahead to greet them.
“Halt right there, heretic, or you shall receive the Fury’s judgment!” one of them shouted at her, his lance down in preparation to attack.
Too tired to put up a fight, Kitali just sighed in resignation. Before she could utter a rebuttal, the other guard crossed her own lance in front of her comrade.
“Stay your hand,” she commanded, “these are the Scions of the Seventh Dawn, and are allies to be welcomed.” She turned to Kitali, lifting her face shield. “Apologies, miss, he’s a green recruit.”
Kitali raised a shoulder in a brief shrug. “I'm used to it. Is Alberic still around?”
“Aye, aye he is, should be within taking a meal at present. Come in out of the cold, you three look ready to topple over.”
Looking over her shoulder at Alphinaud and Tataru, Kitali motioned with her head to follow her. She made no effort to hide the flat look of disdain from the guard who had yelled at her. For his part he had straightened up again and was not making eye contact.
The settlement looked much the same as it had the last time she was here, though some of the knights now gave her nods of greeting instead of cold stares and muttered barbs. Pushing into the mess hall, she spied Alberic hunched over a plate in the far corner, gnawing on a leg of meat. The handful of people in the room all looked up in confusion at the draft that followed them in before returning to their food. Alberic beckoned them over to his table with a wave of his hand.
“Kitali, well met! And Commander Leveilleur as well,” he greeted them, smile warm. “Come sit. What brings you to Coerthas?”
“I need your help. All three of us,” Kitali said as she lowered herself into a chair. Alphinaud silently sat beside her, Tataru clambering to stand on the chair on her other side.
The smile vanished in an instant from Alberic’s face to be replaced with a concerned frown.
“What kind of help?”

filled out this MSQ progression thing for my wol j’azir!
he’s 23 at the start of ARR (a baby) and is 30 by post-endwalker, and it’s been so so fun getting to put together these screenshots for this. more catboy lore for the major milestones of each expansion:
ARR (age 23-25): he’s a wee rogue here.... had already spent close to 8 years being a rogue by the time ARR begins. perhaps a bit too idealistic to a fault at times, but finding much-needed belonging and purpose with the scions when he joins around age 24
HW (age 25-26): the loss of the scions, haurchefant, and ysayle takes its toll by the end of heavensward.... but in the name of duty, he does what he must
SB (age 26-28): grief and loss turns into apathy at the start of stormblood, which quickly gets redirected into obsessive, vengeful rage as he crosses paths with the crown prince
SHB (age 28-29): he pulls himself back from the brink, however, thrown into the next bit of whirlwind chaos with the crisis on the first; the rage is honed into cold determination as he shoulders the mantle of the warrior of darkness
EW (age 29-30): perhaps he finds a bit more peace here, as much as is possible, learning to fully lean on the scions as family, learning to hope and love even in the face of world-ending oblivion

-rolls in- pumpkin here! Hope you are having a good day 🎃 2 and 27 for the oc asks!
Thank you for the ask, @hanajimasama! (I'm at work so I'm having a day, but that's par for course and I will be having a great time once I leave, thank you!) Um. Ysayle for these!
2. What was the first moment that they knew they were in love with their LI?
Yloise has had a (very concerning) crush on Ysayle since the Shiva fight, but I don't think she recognized that her feelings for her were more serious until the fight against Ravana. Seeing Ysayle flung across the room like a rag-doll activated a hitherto unexperienced panic response that absolutely played into the ferocity of her fight against Ravana (ABSOLUTELY DELIGHTED AT THIS TURN OF EVENTS).
Ysayle, for her part, was definitely manipulating her up until Midgardsormr told them to play nice in the basement of Gorgagne Mills. It's still very much flirting and teasing for the course of the road trip until Hraesvelgr primal-zones her - she's got too much on her mind to recognize this at the time, but she would later look back on that moment where Yloise refuses to leave her at Estinien's dismissive suggestion as a moment that changed her own feelings about Yloise.
27. What makes you excited about their relationship?
MAGIC DRAGON GIRLFRIEND. Honestly though, the sheer potential of understanding through sharing the Echo is endlessly fascinating to me, particularly considering how much their relationship necessarily changes through the course of the story. Since I am IGNORING certain terrible decisions, I'm also excited to see how Ysayle fits into the plot post-HW.

hello, gg! I had your flower fella in my head while I was gposing around some flowers in Elpis, and it brought a question to mind. How did you feel about the Elpis arc in Endwalker? On my first playthrough, it absolutely blew me away, but on my replay, I feel like parts of it retroactively cheapened Shadowbringers (if that makes any sense). idk, I'm curious to hear your thoughts, if you have any to share. :>
sure. i feel like i mentioned a while back that i'm not crazy about endwalker for this exact reason. like, i had fun playing through the msq and i acknowledge the difficulties of trying to wrap up a decade-long story for a massive fanbase with varying expectations, but it just didn't land for me. especially the elpis arc. this is going to be really long and full of spoilers, so i'll keep the rest of it under a cut.
arriving in amaurot in shadowbringers was easily one of my favorite story beats in all of ffxiv. i loved that the ancients were portrayed as kind strangers, the anxiety about the final days from their dialogue, the vulnerability from the villain; it was all just great. one of the things that helped sell amaurot to me was how little was concrete about it. it was a faint memory of a place that didn't exist anymore. we couldn't see anyone's faces, we couldn't feel like we actually belonged there in any meaningful way. and when you confront emet-selch, it's like, "sure, it's sad that this happened to you, but we're here now, so you have to let it go."
looking back, i feel like elpis is the polar opposite of all that. i smiled at hades' beautiful wife and shitty haircut as much as the next guy, but it just felt...unnecessary? where shadowbringers said "the unsundered world is not coming back, you have to get over it," endwalker said "Bring It In, Guys !!" and showed me more of the ancients than i ever really wanted to see. i didn't need to go back in time and run around with my pal emet to sympathize with him. and again, he's beautiful, but i didn't really need to put a face to hythlodaeus, either. i thought he was much more compelling when i didn't know anything except that he was nice and emet-selch loved him.
this is more personal preference than anything, but i was also let down that the ancients were just...humans? i was hoping that the origin of all the sundered races would have more varied features to reflect that, and the way they were portrayed in shadowbringers allowed me the freedom to imagine them that way.
anyway, going back to the the time travel... in shadowbringers, i loved the bittersweetness of the doomed timeline continuing even after g'raha tia fixed everything. elpis changed how time travel works within the story to tie everything up with a bow. i know it functions the same way in the alexander raids, but i thought it was bizarre to rewrite the rules within the main scenario right after the expansion where it was a big deal. (using the same time machine, even!)
venat was fine. i didn't really consider her to be the same character as hydaelyn at all, and it felt like a stretch to equate the emotionless crystal god voice to this nice, cool lady we spent an afternoon with. also, explaining the echo the blessing of light as a "traveler's ward" was such a letdown, man. it was a tremendous deal when hydaelyn and zodiark were revealed to be primals, but endwalker essentially threw out the concept of tempering, so it didn't matter at all. again, i get that retcons are inevitable in a decade-long mmo storyline. but the way she'd been built up as a morally questionable figure as early as heavensward made me hope for more flavor than what i got from venat.
hermes was a pretty interesting character. i liked meeting someone who didn't fit in with ancient society, and even resented a lot of what was considered normal for them. he just didn't get enough time to cook. i probably don't have to harp on the stupid amnesia machine, so i'll skip that part.
meteion was... well, getting back to the point of your question, i kind of hated that the final days ended up being "a bird in space is beaming us with nihilism energy." i'm not sure what i wanted the final days to be, but the mystery of it was so much more intriguing than the explanation. the idea that the ancients' creation powers went out of their control was so cool! but, oh, it was because they were too aetherically dense to transform into monsters, i guess... okay...
maybe that's my overall problem with elpis, that it eliminated all mystery for the sake of neatly wrapping up loose threads, even when the mystery was more fun. every subsequent dev interview really drives this home, to the point where i wish they'd stop explaining things altogether. i'm feeling the same way now with the alliance raid series and its explanation of the twelve. of course, that storyline is still going, but i don't have high hopes for the last part.
wow that was long. sorry. thank you for your question i've been bottling this up for like a year lmao

Hey, sorry for the absense, my friends introduced me to the critically acclaimed MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV which you can play through the entirety of A Realm Reborn and the Award-Winning Heavensward Expansion and ALSO Award-Winning Stormblood Expansion up to level 70 for free with no restrictions on playtime in late September and also university is hard so I kinda forgot about Tumblr (not to mention the fact that Endwalker spoilers that it started to recommend me also made me reconsider returning prior to my completion of MSQ), but because the NA Cloud StressTest servers happened, I decided to make a little post about it here.
So, I was the person who made Edward Elric for this server. Of course he had to be a lalafell.
Tumblr media
I first came here for the sake of memes and looking at funny nicknames, but I managed to find a lot of fun and friendly people here. Some didn't have Discord, some were on JP Data Centers (which is great, I am from a JP DC myself) but they were speaking Japanese and weren't too great at English, but some people were willing (and able) to talk to me and I appreciate that...
Tumblr media
tbh FFXIV made me find a lot of new awesome people and for that I am incredibly glad that my friends decided to invite me here. I may be a bit too hyperfocused on the game at times, but it's the first MMO that I hadn't abandoned after level 30/month of playing. It's truly special but I will talk about it later perhaps.
Tumblr media
I make this post to find more people that might've seen me during the stress test. I hope I really made the day for you with my weird, almost drunken shenanigans when it came to me offering "the fullmetal eggs" to some folk, lol
Tumblr media
Anyways, time for some nickname highlights (click on the image to see the full thing)

6.4 MSQ Review
Some thoughts on our quest to save the Void...(spoilers under the cut)
Admittedly, I waited a bit before I did the MSQ (because Ancients took priority with Pandaemonium's finale and all that), but the MSQ overall was both...how do I put this? A bit of a mixed bag. I don't doubt that there's a lot of set up going on for a big finale (as well as tying up some threads from Endwalker), but I found that the story update had a bit more filler than I would like. Anyways, on to the specifics!
Estinien fans, how we feeling? Because that curry didn't leave me all hot and bothered, but this sure did:
Tumblr media
Was it fanservice? Yes.
Did it prove Estinien is Endwalker's thirst king? Yes.
Did I nearly break my keyboard from hitting that Print Screen button to screenshot? I have the right to remain silent. (Also yes.)
The scene probably wasn't necessary, but Zero's reaction made for a good laugh, and it's nice to see some of the other Scions get some fan love.
I'd like to pretend that I have more to say for the first half of the MSQ, but honestly? There's not much. And I'm not sure how I feel about that. There were some cute moments (like the curry and Zero terrifying the Loporrits), but the journey from Radz to the moon just felt long and tedious. Thancred's cameo felt short and over too soon, and from a storytelling perspective, I can't help but wonder what purpose he served there. I felt like he needed a bigger role to be there, but maybe we'll get that role later as the MSQ hinted to seeing him again.
That being said, the new dungeon is a delight. The fights were fun, the music exciting, and the view was absolutely breathtaking. And the bears! How can you not stop by and watch them play?
Tumblr media
I should probably say something about Garlemald before we head to the Void, and I think a lot of folks have mentioned that they felt the Garlean arc served its purpose, but perhaps would've made a better story for an expansion rather than continuing as side stories. I feel like Garlemald was such a big player in the overall tale, and having it sidetracked seems like a lot of missed opportunities. Rather than repeat the same "we don't trust outsiders, but I guess you aren't so bad, so we'll trust you" thought process, I feel like we really could've seen a great story told with how Garlemald rises from the ashes. It could have been an interesting story on forgiveness and redemption (plus some really dramatic infighting with who wants to take control), but I feel like we won't really see it unless it's in short bursts here and there.
Anyways, on to the Void. Seeing Vrtra in his full dragon form was a huge delight and as much as I love his avatars, seeing him go to his sister as himself was really nice. It really brought back some of the delights of Heavensward and seeing just how capable Vrtra is like the rest of the brood. Azdaja comparing Estinien to Nidhogg was on point and made me chuckle, and it was great to see Vrtra and Azdaja reunited, if only for a little while.
But then we get to Golbez. Between his own words and Zero's flashbacks, I feel like we get to the main course of the MSQ at this point.
Tumblr media
There's a lot to unpack here, and I'm going to do my best to condense my thoughts so you don't have a book to read. I think most have come to the same conclusion that the real Golbez (a.k.a. the mage) is possibly the Void's shard of the Warrior of Light. The unvoiced cutscene and the fact that they pretty much act like us is pretty obvious, and I don't doubt we'll get more about the mage later on, especially with their crystal getting yeeted into Zeromus. On a side note (and this is just me crying in caster main), but it was really cool to see a mage in armor. Robes are nice and all, but a mage in spiky armor is a rare sight that I'd like to see more of.
Anyways, I won't rehash what others have said regarding the new trial and how our trip to the void didn't pan out according to plan, but I do have a theory about Durante that is probably off the wall, and I can't help but wonder about it.
We learn through the mage's crystal and Zero's flashback that Durante and Golbez were pretty much besties, going off and doing hero work when the Void was in chaos. Throughout our journey with Zero, she has mentioned our "friendship" with Zenos, trying to figure out what it meant. Jullus' words on trust and our own thinking of Zenos' final moments have a reason, and I don't think these mentions are without purpose.
I think Durante is a shard of Zenos, and it's not because he's a big, buff dude with blonde hair. His devotion to Golbez, his strength and power...it's very reminiscent of our Garlean prince, but instead of a rivalry, we could get a glimpse of what life could have been like with Zenos sharing our journey instead of fighting it.
Tumblr media
In terms of storytelling, I can't help but wonder if it's an attempt to add more layers to Zenos despite him not being in the picture. Or perhaps it's trying to show us that in another world, the WoL/Zenos pair is actually a pretty strong one. Or maybe it will provide us a way to connect to Durante later on. We couldn't save Zenos, but perhaps we could save his shard. Only time will tell with how this will all pan out, but I don't think the flashbacks to Zenos are without purpose, and what that purpose truly is, we'll eventually see.

Timeline: Nebulously post 6.0, MSQ spoilers past Heavensward Pairing: WoL/Aymeric
At a fancy ball engineered by a minor noble, Mayhem and Aymeric talk about their relationship.
"In need of a reprieve, dearest?" Aymeric sounded amused as he joined them on the starlit balcony. "I can hardly blame you. If Emmanellain were not busy to the south, we should have had more warning of the master of the house's true intentions."
Mayhem took the glass of wine he was offering with a grateful sigh. "But who in Ishgard aside from Emmanellain can entirely keep track of who has eligible daughters just coming of age?" they asked rhetorically. "Not to mention all of the similarly-aged friends of said eligible daughters, and hopeful sons tagging along with an excuse of escorting their sisters…"
"It's likely as much my fault as anything." Aymeric's voice was dry and weary. "I have been told by many that I have a terribly honest face, a singular disadvantage for a man in my position. And so our connection is an open secret, and since I have not openly moved to claim your affections in any official way, they all consider you fair game."
"Have your feelings about that changed?" Mayhem asked cautiously. They liked their relationship with Aymeric the way it was, with neither of them bound or obligated to anything beyond the affection they shared; but being the kind of sentimental person he was, it had surprised them when Aymeric had been the first one to decline an official courtship.
"I…" Aymeric pursed his lips, glancing at them uncertainly. "...No, not really. Although I always fear it may pain you to hear it. My first obligation, my life's work, is the city of Ishgard, and I am proud of the work I do here. To publicly court the Warrior of Light would complicate that work more than reinforce it." He smiled at them softly, eyes almost glowing in the moonlight. "It is enough for me that we know who we are to one another: it isn't important to me that the world knows as well. Unless you have begun to feel otherwise?"
"I haven't," Mayhem agreed with relief. "I love you, and I love this city, but I will never be a part of Ishgard. There isn't room for me here as anything other than a curiosity, and I don't mind that. I'm a disruption, an external force, and not only is that inevitable, it's what Ishgard needs me to be. I will always do this city more good by coming and going, by reminding them that the world is bigger than their stone walls and rituals. Trying to become a part of it permanently would mean spending the rest of my life auditioning for their approval, when all that I really want is yours."
Aymeric was beaming at them, his affection almost tangible despite the respectful distance between them, and Mayhem knew they were reflecting the same emotion back at him. "I do love you so," he murmured softly, and then nodded at their half empty wine glass. "Are you refreshed enough to rejoin the dance, dearest?"
"Oh, I suppose so." Mayhem drained the rest of the glass and moved to follow him inside. "You know, there was a time in my life I really thought I would never get tired of hearing other people tell me how great I was. Who ever knew I'd get far enough for even that to grow tedious?"

I hope you don't mind me asking, but what are your blind thoughts going into stormblood? Although you mentioned having received slight spoilers, despite what you may or may not know, are you hopeful or wary about the upcoming expansion ahead of you and ch'ahri?
I dunno hardly AAANNYTHING here is a complete list of my thoughts
kugane tower jumping puzzle (I will not be attempting to win this one) (I’m decent at jumping puzzles, but only because I’m on controller and enjoy platformers)
Godzilla 💕💕💕💕 no one told me Godzilla was here (seriously even the music and laser beams were goji-like) - they seem to be leaning into some tropes this time (with Gosetsu as well)
people seem to like the omega raids? excited for those. Halfway thru Alexander as we speak and those are fun I love gobbie
i am slightly wary going into the actual story content, since the concept of freeing ala mhigo is a healthy amount of detached from real-world allegories but also a healthy amount more connected to real world conflict around annexed powers and occupied peoples than we’ve previously gone into. It’s very grounded - the primal is a consequence, rather than a part of the conflict, and I expect them to split the focus. Insofar as post-arr and heavensward are, I mostly like how they handle complex societal topics and I trust them as far as not mucking it up entirely goes, but I put myself at a literary distance about the whole thing because im not one to speak about if they’re gonna handle it well. I’m gonna watch and mess around in the world they give me first. As far as pre-stormblood goes, in my not-a-guy-who-knows-things opinion, they handled it about a 7/10? Some dialogue bothered me, some things were like dam the horrors of war and desperation so true😔 (this is a positive). Some things were like yo is that Godzilla
I do LIKE the tone though. I think they did a tonal shift into something a little darker and brought in a Silly Guy to balance it, and it feels like they have a complete grip around their overarching story and world now.
I also wonder if they’re doing two things at once and how they’ll handle it? I want to visit Doma. I want to visit doma I want to visit that underwater bubble city you look like the monkie kid dragon place. Ch’ari will probably like it too, he’s one of those weird cats who likes water and being in water
i wasnt all that interested in the trailer aside from pretty location, it seems very stereotypical fantasy asia world tour. meteor buddy grow your hair out you look so good in Dawntrail
im trying to keep my opinions my own, since I hardly hear anyone talk about stormblood, sandwiched as it is between heavensward (everyone’s first exposure to the good kush) and shadowbringers (everyone’s perfect baby). So, about 1/4 wary of the msq content, 1/2 excited for the new dungeons and fights (is all of stormblood going to have 15+ enemies coming at you at once?? My frames get scared unless I’m wired into the internet and go down to 30 fps when they all load in), 1/4 excited to see new environments and new characters again :]
Ari is always excited to go to a new place. He always tries to make a good first impression, because whatever you do next (even if you’re rude) is colored by your first impression, and it sometimes fails and sometimes works to his benefit. He didn’t have a good reputation in Limsa, and it was shaky AT BEST in Ishgard, this is the first city he goes where either no one knows him or if they do know him it’s in a positive light. New experience for kitty
